4:05 pm, Point Blank Exclusive: Details are being finalized for New York State Governor David A. Paterson to appear at the Coliseum on Monday to throw his complete support behind the Lighthouse Project. Great news – Lets hope it gains some local political momentum, and snowballs from there!
-
This is good news.
-
Another postive step! Fantastic!
-
Good.
-
NICE! What great news!
-
Awesome news, Chris. I hope everyone also agrees with you that the Isles are drafting Tavares!
-
Not sure what Marc meant, but hey definitely great news. Hope this is one step of many towards the Lighthouse completion
-
Imagine how much support we would get if he could actually see the crap hole we call NVMC.
-
Lets just hope he can hold on to his position long enough to be a factor in the Lighthouse’s future. His term so far has pretty much been a disaster and if he was up for re-election this year he’d probably get his ass kicked.
-
great! lets keep it going!
hopefully april 2010 lighthouse ground broken!
-
Marc was making a funny…we all know its Duchene
-
I have the utmost confidence at this time that the Lighthouse Project will be approved and start rolling next year. The Islanders want it, the fans want it, the workers want it, the state wants it. It should just be a matter of time.
-
It’s terrific that Patterson is going to support the project, but let’s not forget that the majority of New Yorkers think Patterson is as inept as they come, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this whole thing backfired & only generated more anti-lighthouse feelings – the whole ‘if HE thinks it’s a good idea, it must be awful.’ As an Islander fan I sure hope not, but I’m certainly not anywhere near as excited or optimistic about this development as many others seem to be.
-
(12) The ONLY thing that could stop this is if (Olive) Garden City throws a real hissy fit and tries to use what political clout it has to block this.
Nimbys suck.
-
15: in this case, garden city NIMBY’s are the straight up enemy of everyone else, and they must be publicly portrayed as such. the people in such communities would let everyone around die, so long as their pristine town stays untouched, and at this juncture, to acknowledge such puffery as legitimate would be 100% unacceptable. if those grimy people show up to play hardball, then so must we.
-
Gov. Paterson is a Long Island guy. I think he recently met with Charles Wang in the city to discuss the Lighthouse Project.
Getting the Gov’s support could only be a good thing as we try to get this projected completed.
-
certainly good news
-
it is nice to have such an upstanding, trustworthy and honorable man supporting this project
-
great!!! a lame duck, never elected clueless loser with a 25% approval rating holds so much weight!!!
-
Not only is Patterson an LI guy but if memory serves correctly he’s a Town of Hempstead native. It couldn’t hurt matters at all that he supports the project.
-
eh, not sure this holds much weight
-
He’s the governor guys. His approval ratings do not change the influence he will have. It’s not like he’s bush.
-
WOW!
Never liked the guy, until now. -
Things are starting to look up in Islander Country….
-
I’m still not voting for him
-
Hopefully the snowball keeps rolling towards approval of the Lighthouse Project and it gets started by next summer. This certainly isn’t bad news fellas!
-
Even if the governor’s unpopular, his support will give the issue statewide coverage and generate secondary and tertiary ripples. The extra media attention will be helpful despite Paterson’s personal unpopularity.
-
Does it really make sense for any politician, including Kate Murray, to stand up and oppose a project that has the support of the governor; at least one US Senator; the county executive; all the major labor unions; every significant business association on Long Island; 16 county legislators (passed by a 16-2 vote); the main veterans’ associations; the Long Island Progressive Council; and so on. The trend here is so obvious. Does Kate Murray really stand up against that and say “No…you’re all wrong. This shouldn’t be built.” It might happen, but it seems to be less likely with each of these announcements.
-
Don’t like the guy!!i will USE him for this…
-
@#23….Of course his low approval ratings will effect how much influence he has.
-
Will the Governor of NY put his remarks in writing and submit them to the ToH for the public record?
-
This is nice preliminary news. BUT…theres worlds to go and things could get heated and ugly. There will definately be a “debate”. Its like, New York Islanders – The Movie. I hope to see a mutual agreement and shovels in the ground on Long Island in the not too distant future.
-
It would be nice if he was flanked by a bipartisan assortment of L.I. assemblymen and state senators when he does this.
-
Guys, this may appear to be great news but know this: Right now David Paterson is looking like a lame duck governor. He trails Andrew Cuomo horribly in 2010 gubernatorial polls and has suffered a series of political and PR disasters in his short time in Albany since replacing Spitzer. My point is, as good as this sounds, he has about as much political weight in the state right now as any of us do. He just had his lieutenant governor appointment shot down tonight by a judge. He’s clearly, at this point, not proven he’s a guy who can get things done. He got busted doing that ridiculous wheelchair stunt at that fundraiser. He handled the Gillibrand appointment horribly and failed miserably when suggesting NYS get about 150 new taxes.
This is not a man you want supporting your cause.
And this is a fellow Democrat telling you this.
-
Yea, a liberal , high spending fill in Govenor of a bankrupt state is coming aboard. Id jump ship.
-
Chris,
I cringe at the thought of Patterson at this thing, guy is a disaster.
-
I hope its not a political stunt.
Either way it brings attention to the project. -
That is smart. Why would New York State want to lose any sports franchise? They don’t. Everyone else gets a new or renovated arena, why can’t we? We can.
Wang and Rechler have everyone under the sun in their back pocket. You mean to tell me one woman can stop a governor, 2 owners, politicians, unions, union leaders, and thousands of fans in support? Not happening. She has no chance. It will be the end of her career. Im sure she doesnt want that.
The Town of Hempstead does not have the power to stop the State of New York from producing jobs, revenue, boosting a suffering economy, and saving a great franchise! This is way out Kate Murray and her board’s ballpark!
-
I personally like the coliseum and if it wasnt for new state of the art stadiums being the new thing, I wouldnt mind playing in the current Nassau Coliseum which by the way is not a crap hole #9. Sightlines wise, no better place to watch the game. My only complaint with the coliseum are the bathroom lines. Simply hurrendous when the stadium is full. Also the food isn’t very good, but I usually do not eat there anyway.
-
Interesting. As mentioned above, this could help slightly or be the kiss of death by an unpopular (and now perhaps a NYS Constitution-breaking!) gov. He’s even less unpopular on LI. Anyway, I don’t have the time to look into this now, but what tangible benefits would NY State-level support bring? The necessary planning and approval powers seem to have been delegated to more local levels. Having another (Dem) cheerleader won’t sway Murray.
-
Er, he’s even less popular on LI. Or more unpopular. Ack, sorry…
-
First, whatever his popularity, the governor vcan help things get done … or help see that they are not done. I’d rather have him supporting this than opposing this. Every little bit helps.
Some people are determined to question every and any piece of positive news about the LH. What’s the opposite of drinking the kool aid?
-
Paterson’s lack of popularity is irrelevant. This is going to be on the news. The reporter will say “Governor Paterson was on Long Island today to announce his support for….” and there will be shots of him surrounded by lots of people. The reporter will talk about the jobs to be created. The reporter will talk about the Islanders getting a new home. And the average person sitting at home watching this, who doesn’t already have a view on the LHouse, is going to say “Yeah, why SHOULDN”T we build that?”
This is good publicity. He’s unpopular, yes, but he’s not hated. There’s a difference. Those shots on the news Monday night are all good things for this project.
-
Patterson not on good side of Long Islanders. He wants wants to break up incorporated villages in Long island.
Basically anything to take the high taxes we pay on Long island and stream line them more upstate.
Sorry i want lighthouse too. But i will never support him.
-
Oh God Help Us!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s good news. It could only help.
