GOVERNOR PATERSON EVENT TODAY
11:00 am at the Coliseum, open to the public
As first reported on Point Blank, Governor David Paterson will show his support of the Lighthouse Project in a press conference today. It’s at 11:00 am, just outside the box office of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Charles Wang, Scott Rechler, Kate Murray and Tom Suozzi will be in attendance.
Point Blank readers are encouraged to attend. It doesn’t matter what the Governor’s approval ratings might be, or what you think of him. He will bring attention to a subject vital to the Islanders’ future. The story looks a lot better if there are a lot of supporters there, Islanders fans or not. Comments.

even paterson can see that this is a good thing for long island!! wink.
any publicity helps
Any support helps, too.
Now that is great news! Anyone who can go please do!
And in addition, regardless of approval rating, Paterson can still expedite the state’s part of the approval process and make funds available for the repair of state roads (Hempstead Turnpike, Meadowbrook Pkway) around the site.
Kate Murray at NVMC event! Does this bode well for August 4th? It sure looks that way. Islanders should plan a party for their fans when the Lighthouse gets approved. Screw Kansas City!
i heard the Gov. is also going to voice his displeasure about the tweets on Miro Satans agents Twitter page…..please no Miro….PLEASE
I will be at the Coliseum tomorrow.
I’ll be working, however, I already know his “I fully support the project, it will help Long Island, create jobs, create revenue … yada yada.” gig.
Terrific.
i’m starting to feel good about this.
I have to believe Kate Murray’s plan to attend is a promising sign.
Murrays only coming b/c she needs to to gets votes in november.
Im sure youre right Ajax (9) but it still looks good for the development and the community if there are a number of us there encouraging this kind of support. Without it, the powers that be will be less inclined for action.
Im going to see what I can do about going, and Im going to bring a few Lighthouse posters as well. I can only hold up one though so anyone else who goes can help out holding another!
Looks good, I hope it translates into the project getting approved
“Murrays only coming b/c she needs to to gets votes in november.”
Why do politicians do anything?
(13)- Agreed.
Wang should ask some players to show up for support as well. It would draw more people.
this is more good news for LI and the Isles…Keep the “train a movin”…
Politician = professional handshaker.
Not a huge Paterson fan, but appreciate him putting his neck out for this project and bringing some some high-profile attention to the Isles.
Stuff like this buys goodwill with voters like me, and who knows…maybe he won’t get pulverized by Andrew Cuomo in the primary after all.
He is the governor and of course has his own motives. This is a positive it has a lot to do with the labor unions who are very powerful and Democrats. But this is not about politics its about money and power. The recession will be the main reason that this will be approved. However raising private capital to finance the deal will be tough in the present economic environment. However first things first.
The more politicians that throw their weight behind the project, the less the detractors will be heard. The good of the majority must prevail.
I cant go tomorrow, but i will be at the neeting on August 4th
As promising as it seems to have Kate Murray attend this thing, I think its more of a political protocol thing than anything. When the governor of your state shows up in your district, unless he’s fund raising for the other party, as the town supervisor you have to show your face. As much as I, and every one else here would like it to be, I don’t think its because she has suddenly thrown her support behind this project.
I’d rather watch Bridgeport games all year than mingle with Patterson.
#24, Ha! It’s a press conference not a cocktail party. But I understand (& I couldn’t resist.)
Nite nite
Patterson was one of the Isles top prospetcs in the late 70’s… He was very close to making the cup winning team of 1980…. He said after the dissapointment of not making that squad, he decided to retire and go into politics…..
Reported in todays newsday, “Kate Murray made a YouTube video about the LHP. Being supportive
