ISLANDERS SCHEDULE RELEASED: Early make-or-break – 14 of 17 on road from Nov. 4 – Dec. 9
3:25 pm - By the end of that stretch, we’ll have a good idea of what the 2009-10 Islanders are. Coincidentally, that’s about when we learned about last year’s team, too. Here’s the schedule. As reported here, Islanders open at home against Pittsburgh on Charles Wang’s Oct. 3 deadline for ”certainty” from the ToH. Their next home game is a Columbus Day matinee for the kiddies against the Kings. Comments about the schedule or your plans for ticket-buying only here, Tavares in next thread. A view on free agency up next.

We’ll be in 1st place on December 9th…:)
-
So, on Dec 9th we can officially start the 2010 draft watch!!!!
-
How could the schedule makers do that to us? Are these road games like to NJ & Phi or out West? Usually that doesn’t happen to a team unless there is some sort of huge events going on in their building or some sort of major renovation (sadly we know the later is not the case). I wonder if the Lighthouse is approved if the Isles might have a few years of playing away a lot to start the season. Doesn’t seem like a fair or balanced schedule, I can’t think it was because of events scheduled at NVMC oh well, I don’t know why I ever expected the NHL to be fair to the Islanders.
-
I cant wait for the home opener. Tavares debut against the Cup champions, awesome!!!
-
This openning nite against in my opinion was done to help the Isles with the LH project. Of course I.m speculating but I believe Bettman consulted with Wang in advance. I believe the league and especially Bettman does no want to lose a ny area franchise especially a storied one like the Isles. They already have too many US sites of questionable staying power now in place and in trouble. As much as JT is a big deal vs Crosby and company. there are many possible other big deal pairings the league could have picked and the coincidence of the LH drop dead date is probably not a coincidence a all.
-
Home Opener is going to be awesome, and we also end the season with the Penguins. Going to be a great game
I wonder what the team is going to look like during the pre-season games… -
13 of 15 on the road thru Dec 9th. . Then they come home and play 10 straight in NY through New Years Eve. I’m no schedulemaker, but couldn’t this have been balanced better?
Thu 10/22 @ Mon
Sat 10/24 v. Wsh
Mon 10/26 @ MonWhy the 2 trips to Montreal in a span of 4 days??
OK – with that said. . can’t wait for Opening Night!
-
Can’t wait for the season to start!
I’ll be back in Boston for the start and can’t make opening night, so if anyone’s up for pre-gaming on Oct. 10 (Sat, 7 pm) before the Isles/Bruins, give a shout out. I wonder what the roster will look like at that time…
-
selling… selling… anyone selling??? That is what you will hear in the parking lot opening night!
WHOYAAAAAAAAA
I need 2, anyone selling?
-
I was planning to make a pilgrimmage to the Igloo in Pitt since they’re tearing it down, and this schedule STINKS for doing that
in January, 3 home games-1 in Pitt-3 home games, so you really can’t make much of a trip out of it
in February, same thing, 2 home games-1 in Pitt-2 home games
in April, same thing, 4 home games-1 in Pitt-1 in NJ and then home
-
In December, three games in ten days against the Rangers (16, 17, 26.) That should be interesting.
-
Almost two weeks off in February? For real?
-
Mike:
Yes, Olympic Break.
-
Don’t understand the two week road trip. According to the Coliseum website the only event scheduled during that time are two Miley Cyrus concerts on Nov 18 & 19, right smack in the middle of it.
-
Some of the opponents are bunched too closely together (Dan beat me to bringing up October road games in Montreal sandwiched around a home game vs. Washington). Also, the NYI’s 3 home and home wild card games vs. the Western Conference are the Blues, Blue Jackets and Kings. I’m almost certain Columbus was one of their wild card teams last season. What’s up with that? I realize that the Canadian teams have a handshake agreement to play one another home and home, but still.
-
The Isles have not been here in Southern California for years, finally! I wish it was Kings Friday and Ducks Saturday, better to get back to San Diego, but, I’ll take it. I also like the Saturday night game in Phoenix, quick hour flight!
-
i feel that there is nothing wrong with 13 out of 15 on the road. yes it could be more balanced however lets get the road games out of the way. besides it will seem like we have so many more home games later in the year when ur home 3 away 1 home 4 away 2
-
Anyone know about the partial ticket plans? I’m not willing to deposit $100 without knowing what I would be buying.
-
Looking forward to the 2 games in Tampa since it’s where I live. 1 of the 2 Panthers games and I will definitly go to a game over thanksgiving. WOO HOOOOO 4 games for me this yr.
-
From Nov 4-Dec 9, it is 14 of 17 on the road.
-
Anyone here anything about single ticket sales and the actual partial plans who will be included in what plans?
-
WIZARD- I just got a 22 game plan 8 rows up in the 300′s at center ice. $1,065. I went to the JT press conference and spoke to a rep. I didn’t put down anything.. Get in touch with a rep….
-
Forgot- Home Opener plus all 3 ranger games. It’s suppose to be the best 22 home games they give you. We’ll see…
-
They play 17 games in this stretch of days, not 15.
-
For those interested, individual tickets go on sale August 15th.
-
lets pack the coliseum this year and show the NHL how good the Islanders fan base really is.
-
vukota….how many tickets did you get?
-
Nystrom 23- Just 1 tix. Me and my buddy each got 1 tix. It’s cheaper to sit on either side or up a couple of rows but we wanted center ice
-
They are charging my credit card 265 a month for the next 4 months, so they have payment plans available as well.
-
CB……..it’s 14 of 17 on the road from November 4 – December 9
H – nov 7, nov 15, nov 27
A – nov 4, nov 6, nov 11, nov 13, nov 14, nov 16, nov 20, nov 21, nov 23, nov 28, dec 3, dec 5, dec 8, dec 9

Isles vs Red Wings in January is going to be insane.
-
Always love the Thanksgiving Eve (Flyers at home)and day after Xmas games (this year on raod at Rangers). Can’t wait till Tavares gets his first goal at MSG.
-
The Islanders are making their way to respectability. I think that this year will be a lot like the 1999-2000 Islanders, where they’ll be fun to watch, they’ll lose a lot, but they won’t be boring. I’m expecting, but not hoping for, another bottom 5 finish in the league this year. The upside is that Stanley Cup contention will arrive within 5 years. Not a doubt in my mind about that one.
-
I m very tempted to do the 15 game plan for the isles…price is about $2,000, but I am worried I won’t make half the games
-
yeah! good way to start the season. tavares vs. malkin. we are already 1-0 haha! cant wait.
-
thanks Vukota- looking forward to getting a tix plan this year.
-
Here’s what I see for the Islanders by the month:
October: 7-6
November: 5-9
December: 7-8
January: 4-10
February: 3-3
March: 4-10
April: 3-3Season Record: 33-49
Would be a pretty big step forward for them. Won’t make the playoffs, will finish bottom 5, but it’s an improvement. That’s all I want.
-
Just booked my flight from Naples, FL for the home opener. See the Mets and Astros followed by John Tavares’ first game. Can’t wait!
-
I’m a little angry that the Isles aren’t playing on new years eve.
-
E from Entourage didn’t wear any Isles gear in the season opener for the first time in 3 years. What’s up with that???
-
#40, They do play on New Years Eve in Ottawa
-
I am gonna miss the early January Mountain time roadtrip, which I affectionately named the Jiggs Mcdonald roadtrip.
-
I love the games the day after christmas, they always seem to play the leafs or filthy rags. I believe the last three are home, but ill ask for those at the garden for my xmas gift haha!
also, its going to be sick to see the hawks and wings visit the coliseum, as well as the oilers.
-
@ Vukota — nice call!! Cut “E” some slack, maybe he was trying to impress Sloane.
He can make up for it by wearing a Tavares jersey sometime this season
-
I am pumped up about all this enthusiasm, and about the big crowds that are expected this season. We have three years to sell this place to Tavares so he signs a long-term deal and doesn’t bolt his first opportunity. Great crowds have to go a long way in making him want to play here more than three years.
-
Yea, but there not playing on the island.
-
I’m going cross eyed! What happened to posting a schedule with @ (at) or vs? I’m going nuts looking back and forth.
-
No trip to Chicago this season? Awful news for me. Guess I head down to St. Louis this year. Why can’t the schedule be every team visits every city at least once every season. Makes sense to me.
-
Can’t make the opener, going down to N’awlins for the Jet game. But the Cali games work perfecty into my annual March trip to LA.
-
I will be supporting the Isles when they come into the Los Angeles area in March for two games. Also, seeing if I can swing that Phoenix matchup in January. Awesome!!
-
I’m looking forward to the French Invasion on Saturday 12/19. May have family in town from Montreal for that one. Home Opener is a given especially as it should be Tavares’ debut and also is my birthday weekend. I have season tickets but it is more about for which games I will need extras.
As far as the road goes, I am annoyed that I will not be able to take a week off from work in October and see the Isles play at Centre Bell twice in six days.
Non-Isles – I will be attempting to get tickets for the Winter Classic at Fenway.
-
SCLI – Go to Isles website. You can sort by home or away or the whole season. Makes it easier.
-
Just an edit, there are 3 home games in the 11/4 – 12/9 stretch, not 2. 11/7 and the day before and after Thanksgiving.
-
Cant wait to see my Islanders visit Vancouver this year!!
-
The team will have some real bonding time as they grow together during this brutal stretch. They will be better for it in the long run… hopefully it doesn’t kill their spirit.
-
I wanted to go to a game early this season, and I was hoping for one in Ottawa. It would’ve worked perfectly for me, if it were any other day. Hopefully that New Years Eve game will work out for me, and I still want to take a trip down to LI for a game, but I think that is going to have to wait 1 more year.
-
Also, its funny how similar the schedule is from year to year… As I scrolled down I saw the first game in Toronto at the end of November and said to myslef “oh, usually we play in Toronto around dads birthday, it has moved up this year”.. sure enough, I scroll down and see we are playing to Toronto Dec. 9, my dad’s birthday.
-
If anyone can recall … the previous 2 seasons also had an unbalanced Home / Road schedule … and plenty of 3 game in 4 night segments … Last season we were more oblivious to it b/c we were less concerned with making the playoffs … but in 07/08 we were infuriated by the unbalanced schedule … 3 games in 4 nights followed by a 4 day off lull… or even 5 games in 8 nights at times… and I see a bunch of consolidated segments of games in this schedule ….
I’ll be going to see at least 4 games at NVMC … hope to catch 2 at the Rock and 1 in Philly…. everything is after that is gravy.
-
I need to be at the first Isles/Ranger game at the old barn
-
Two week olympic break forces more back to back and 3 of 4′s.
Last year was my favorite as a fan since the 80′s. The team came to play almost every night and the young kids showed glimpses of what they can become. If we just hustle and out work other teams it will lay the foundatation of the type of team we will be.
Imagine in 3 years the Isles not only out work other teams, but they have the talent and experierience to win the close games.
This season will be fun. KO and Bailey’s coming out party, and JT at the big dance. Don’t want to wish the summer away, but man… I won’t be upset at all when the fall comes.
The team slogan should be “BACK IN BUSINESS”. Akin to the mets old The Magic is Back from the early 80′s.
LETS GO ISLES!!!
-
I’m guessing the Isles are going to host the opening of Hockey Night in Canada this year?
-
Although I moved to LA, still haven’t given up my season tickets. I suffered too much to get to where my seats are at.
Like “Isles fan in CA”, I will also be catching the Ducks/Kings back to back games. Also planning a trip with a Ranger buddy to either Mtl or Tor in October.

Flying in from Tampa to watch the home opener. I can’t wait. When are tickets available for purchase?
