JACK HILLEN UNDER CONTRACT FOR TWO YEARS
Restricted FA defenseman earns a one-way deal
5:33 pm - Everyone knew young Jack would be the easier of the QO passer-uppers. The defenseman gets quite a wedding gift: an NHL one-way contract for two seasons at $520,000 per. That makes seven defensemen on one-way deals. Let’s see if Blake Comeau is next. Comments.

sweet. i hope he makes some serious strides this year.
Didn’t realize he was getting married
I am sure we will use are d depth
Next… Comeau, then Matt Martin!!!
I like Jack but he is another smallish D [5ft 190lb] We still need another big D,an enforcer and a scoring forward [25goals+] to make our rebuild work.
Sorry I left out the 9 inches in Jack’s dimensions.
i’d have been happy if they cut ties with him. oh well
A one-way deal? Is Hillen in the top 6 or will he be healthy scratch? Granted at least one D-man will be hurt by the 4th game, but who will be in the press box when the team is at full strength-Meyer? Gervais? Hillen?
Ted you answered your own question. I wonder what odds Vegas would give on Martinek, Sutton, and Meyer ALL making it out of September healthy.
story updated with dough: $520 K per. Fransbucks…CB
good to hear that jack is back. i think he has a lot of potential. hopefully blake signs soon.
Wow little surprised. Hopefully Comeau and Martin are next.
Ted-my guess Hillen.
Hillen needs to get a bit more physical.
Two-years…nice work Garth. Gives Hillen time to prove himself….gives our prospects time to develop.
Lets hope Hillen did some upper body development.
all full on D - 520K - Good deal Garth
Nice signing not bad terms for a capable 6/7 dmen. He is young and will only get better. Now lets get an enforcer and get Comeau signed.
hillen hasn’t done anything to prove he is worth a one way deal….no way gervais sits over him..i really think bruno started to hit his stride last season
I like Hillen’s style. He showed me something this year. Smart trial deal. Should pay dividends.
When Jackman started the 2008-09 he made a lot of us say, “Holy crap, who is that guy wearing Jackman’s jersey”? He was full of confidence and was aggresive on both sides of the ice.
When jack Hillen played his first two games after signing you could tell he was going to be a nice QB someday.
He’s a good age for a second year player, and this team will be rife with opportunities for him to shine throughout the year. Let’s hope he has a little of what Jackman had last year.
He should see some PP time if they don’t use a lot of four forward sets.
This very well could be a solid point (30 in 60 games) for jack. If he winds up with Sutton he should be the guy sweeping the puck from scrums and making the fist pass…
This could be the start of something good.
I’m sure by May the Isles defense is going to be different, but Hillen is going to be a part of it.
To Comeau’s defense, he showed more progress then Hillen and I believe Comeau is more of an asset to the rebuild then Jack Hillen. If Hillen received a 1 way deal, then it’s only a matter of time until Comeau gets his. I would like to see something similiar to Frans Neilson’s contract. 1 way, 4 years, less then a mill a year.
A mobile, offensively talented, potential PP QB defenseman is far more difficult to find than a 3rd line/4th line forward who might score around 10 goals a season (John Sim, Aaron Voros).
Hillen absolutely should have been signed before Comeau. Much, much bigger upside (and I thought Hillen had a much better season than Comeau last year).
one way contract for Hillen for 2 years??!! I have issues with that. He is small and not a good defender.
Huzzah! Not a bad contract. Cheaper than Gilroy was, I’ll say that.
does this mean that dehaan doesnt stand a chance of playing the first 9 games of the season. i would have liked to see that happen.
Nice signing????
Good grief. On a GOOD team. The Jack Hillen’s of the world are the ones with 2 way deals because they are decent callups as injury replacements. 2 years 1 way and cheap. That us. But Point Blank cannot be sponsored? Not fair.
Jack has always been a great player. He is dedicated to the sport and is passionate about it. I pray he heals fast from his injury and gets his butt back out on the ice where he belongs. He would be a great addition to any team. The Islanders are certainly lucky to have him. Congrats to him on his marriage.
