I will be at the John Tavares press conference on Wednesday at 12:30 pm at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and hope you will join me.

Johnaroo II should be neat. Won’t have 10,000 like the Draft Party, since it’s a Wednesday afternoon. But it should be a good crowd an a unique show. This time, you don’t need any tickets.

Who knows, maybe John’s 3-year, Entry Level contract will be finalized between Garth Snow and Pat Brisson by then.

RSVP in Comments if you can make it. UFA discussion continues in next thread.

Is he going to sign autographs?

  2. avatar Islse fan in CA says:

Wish I could be there. Though, I am anxiously waiting for the schedule to be released in hopes of seeing him a few times out here in the West.

  3. avatar tool123 says:

A contract will be finalized wednesday. Definately

  4. avatar Michael from T.O. says:

Any chance he is joined with a couple of other free agent signings and maybe an announcement of the new captain?

  5. avatar Islesfever says:

any chances this team will go with 3 alternates instead of the normal 1 captain & 2 alts?

  6. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

CB ~ Would love to be there … but have to work.

Chris do you know the reason why the Isles are only going to have ONE day that the public can attend Rookie Camp? Are they trying to avoid a distracting atmosphere with the potential masses attending?

I saw this as a good opportunity to re-energize the fan base. Infact a friend of mine from the Toronto area was going to come down for a few days to attend till he heard about the ONE day only thing. He declared that on June 26th his 2nd fave team became the Isles when they drafted JT. I wonder how many others are hopping on the bandwagon?

  7. avatar Chris TMC says:

Michael from TO, nah- I doubt a team would take away from their #1 overalls first time in the home spotlight and instead devote time to discussing the signing of what would be (at absolute the best!) an enforcer or middle of the road winger. I think the contract thing is quite possible though, it might be why they waited a bit to do this.

  8. avatar Uncle Jr says:

I just happen to be off on Wed. Might take a ride with my 2 yr old to meet the Isles next star. looking forward to seeing everyone

  9. avatar isles99 says:

why cant hold these events on fri, sat or sun?

  10. avatar Mary in 117 says:

    WIll be there.

CB, any idea why prospect camp is closed to the public this year, after being open the last few years?

  11. avatar Devon says:

Yeah, some of us have work. And Mary, we don’t get to see Tavares? WTF?

  12. avatar Strummer's Army says:

CB, when will you have the camp roster? You seem to get these things before the Isles.

Wonder if they’ll be smart enough to put the names on the back of ther jersey’s this year? I can’t believe they went to training camp without that last year.

  13. avatar rob section 315 says:

because iceworks cant hold the amount of people that will be attending is my guess. Hopefully we will have a need captain by Wed. afternoon.

  14. avatar BrianAlbany says:

Is the prospects camp only open to season ticket holders this year then? When I was at the draft party, they offered me an invitation to the camp if i bought a flex plan.

  15. avatar Jimmy Mac says:

Hopefully they sign someone for him to play with by Wednesday.

We need a top notch LW. I guess I can wait for Hall to get our top Centre.

And we need to get younger on Defence.

    Did I mention tougher.

    Let’s keep it going…

  16. avatar Doug says:

    CB,

Could explain what JT’s rookie contract will be and what salary cap hit will the contract have…thanks

  17. avatar Tavares #1 says:

Garth Snow to JT: Nice to have you here, you are on your own kid. I will not bring in anyone to support or protect you.

  18. avatar Ajax says:

I thought he just gets entry level contract, no?

  19. avatar Larry says:

    I will be there

  20. avatar Isles316 says:

Having Wendsdays off finally pays off.

  21. avatar GD says:

he gets the maximum contract allowed with bonuses for a #1 draft pick, nothing more and nothing less in a 3 yr deal..

  22. avatar Pete says:

I understand that all #1′s are entitled to the 3-year max entry level contract?

Does anyone know the dollar figure? I thought it used to be $1.8M per, but my friend tells me it’s something like $3.5M now.

    Anyone know the amount?

  23. avatar Vas says:

The fact is we are not going to be very good this year! I say bring Chris Simon back and that would take care of our tough guy problem! Nobody wants to fight him anymore!

  24. avatar matt says:

will it be live on isles tv?

  25. avatar Ryan says:

Seriously, I understand the desire of the organization to give the young guys as much playing time as possible, but we desperately need a forward that’s played more than 10 games in this league. Weight can’t be expected to repeat his success from last year and Hunter’s a third-line guy. Tanguay would be a nice fit, and the Isles definately have the cap space. As to whether he would like to play on the 30th “best” team from last season is a different question altogether.

  26. avatar Pete M says:

Don’t know if it’s gone up from last year but Stamkos is listed with a cap hit of $3,725,000.

  27. avatar mets/jets/isles says:

Stamkos started last year on the second line. They sat him occasionally to watch from the press box. He eventually got some playing time with Marty StLouis and had a good second half. That would be a good plan for JT except he we dont have any experienced offensive skilled players for JT to play with. I hope if the isles do sit him every so often its on the road against the flyers and other bruising teams.

  28. avatar Chris TMC says:

Doug (16): Yeah I asked CB to do that too, since people have been arguing left and right over this and misinformation is all over the place. I think if CB does decide to explain it all that he would most likely do it after JT gets his actual contract- which could happen anywhere between now and training camp.

  29. avatar 7th Woman says:

    cool… but I’ll be there.

  30. avatar Walt says:

Imagine Heatley and Tavares on the same line. Damn I just woke up from my dream.

  31. avatar Izzy Franchise says:

Kinda sucks that it’s 1230 on a weekday…i understand it really cant be done any other time but..oh well.

it also sucks about prospect camp! One day is open to the public and its a sunday? gimme a break! I planned on taking a day off to go to prospect camp on a weekday so i can avoid the masses, esp kids, and now just because JT is in the fold things have to change? Years past you could come and go as you please…it wasnt very crowded, you can talk to the players, get autographs and just hang out…no reason why it has to change.

  32. I’m trying to make it – not sure if my schedule will let me.

  33. avatar Larry says:

Base is $900,000 and with bonuses he can make up to 3.7 so the cap hit will be 3.7

  34. avatar Mikko Makela says:

    CB,
I’m in for wed. Will there be a pointblank meeting area? Are there any more details on how this will work? See you there.

    -Jay

  35. avatar nick says:

CB, do u know if they are going to broadcast this on msg+ or itv? thanks, as always good stuff!

  36. avatar Jeff says:

has he officially selected his jersey number?

  37. avatar Irish Isle says:

Any word if there is going to be a Tavares Island Tour on Wednesday?

  38. avatar Jay says:

    Will be there,Tavares jersey on

  39. avatar justin says:

I’ll be there with my little 5 month old Islanders fan!

  40. avatar Tony F. says:

My son and I will be there, hope to meet you CB.
