LIGHTHOUSE HEARING SET FOR AUGUST 4
This Is It – An all-day event at Hempstead Town Hall

by admin on July 6th, 2009 at 11:26 am

Starts at 9:30 am. Surprised they’re not having it in a bigger space. Maybe the ToH wanted home-court advantage. As we wrote on Friday, if you attend one Islanders Project hearing in your lifetime, this is the one. BTW, contrary to a report in today’s Newsday, the Town’s approval of the DGEIS is expected tomorrow, not today. Comments.

So if the DGEIS gets approved (which according to CB, it will) and the public hearings go well, what’s the next step? Seems to me this thing is definitely getting approved at this point. I don’t see what else is left to stop it.

CB — If I now live down the shore in Jersey, how can I voice my opinion towards the project?

I’m out of town in Williamsburg, Still love the Isles, how do I show support? Write a letter or something?

Is it an information meeting or a town vote? Although I currently am renting an apartment in Plainview I still am i registered voter in Bellmore with my PO Box.

When something occurs in politics outside of the order in which it should occur there is always the danger of a backroom deal having been made. In this case we have the announcement of a hearing for both proponents and opponents of the lighthouse project to offer public comments before the DGEIS has even been voted on and thereby declared as being ready for such commentary. Clearly there is another shoe about to drop and I believe that it will involve limiting the number of people who are able to gain admittance to the podium to speak their piece – especially if they are proponents of the project.

Remember, this is the draft report that will be approved and opened for public comment. The next step after comments is approval of the final scope of the project and the complete EIS. These are developed after the public comments have been taken into account.

If you haven’t done so already, I would urge people to check out Nick’s blog, Let There be Light(house). It’s your one-stop shop for all things Lighthouse project related.

there will be a lighthouse. it will just be delayed ready in approved in 2012 and completed in 2020. That is how town of hempstead likes to operate. Also, Why does Garden City have a say in this? Its not even in Garden City.

  9. avatar Larry says:

I think part of the project is in Garden city, the mior league ball park seems to be right next to NCC which is in Garden City

:D Im optimistic too! But we have to remember this isnt all passing now JUST because its moving to public hearings. Its all on us now. There are no ‘others’ who will state support on our behalfs. With credit to Nick (lettherebelighthouse) for this excellent line, “We must be the ones we have been waiting for.” We all need to make a notable and positive statement during these hearings if we want this project to happen. It cannot be stressed enough how important that is! I hope everyone who can go does go… whether you live here or not. And, I hope that everyone who cannot possibly go contacts the TOH with positive and enthusiastic encouragement for this development. Posters, banners, pins, whatever you want to do NOW is the time for us to do it. We need to step up and tell the world that THIS is what we want.

Like BR (7) said, please check lettherebelighthouse.blogspot.com for more information. There are has lots of ideas of how we can make this as big and wonderful as possible, and fight successfully to make Long Island better for all of us!
