    MEET ME AT THE LIGHTHOUSE!

  2. avatar Blizzard says:

    JUST BUILD IT!!!!!!!!

  3. avatar mike says:

The Islanders are bringing the Wrecker to the meeting Tuesday? Seems to me to be an odd choice. A little attempt to intimidate, perhaps? I guess Charles can now be sure he won’t be leaving the meeting with the back problems you ended up with after drinking with Kaspar and messing up that guy’s car.

  4. avatar Vukota says:

Why are they setting up these rally’s during the work week when nobody can make it?

  5. avatar Eric B. says:

LOL I went to one of these marches once. It was the long forgotten STIC. The Save The Islanders Coalition. It seems like every few years they want to torture us.

  6. avatar mike says:

wow this is going to get done islanders on long isalnd this is good news

  7. avatar Dyingfour#5 says:

ALL MUST SHOW UP. WE MUST PROVE THAT LONG ISLAND IS BEHIND THIS PROJECT. NO JOB, YOUR A STUDENT OR SIMPLY JUST HAVE OFF FOR THE DAY, MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN AND BE APART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL.

  8. avatar hank says:

JT should be there! he is the future

  9. avatar Chris TMC says:

    Looking forward to it!

Eric (5) this meeting is really important- and I just dont see what you think will be torturing you or anyone else.

Vukota (4): The rally is right before the town meeting, thats why it is when it is… but I can imagine how annoying it is for people who cant get off work. Fortunately, there is that new e-mail address the town set up for people to make their public comments if they cant be there to represent and be counted in person. I urge people (including people who wrote to the ToH in the past) to write and show their support… because previous letters were just trying to urge them to do what they are doing now. Now is when voices of support are literally being counted and considered.

  10. avatar Izzy Franchise says:

Dyingfour#5…yeah um, I think i’ll go to work and make money instead.

I just have a feeling this is gonna get done. JT should be there!

  11. avatar KO21 says:

I wish I didn’t need to take a day off from making money for this.

  12. avatar Matt says:

question, I know the Coliseum will get a face lift but will the Islanders locker room? something players might consider while thinking about signing here.

  13. avatar Leviticus says:

Matt #12, So you think there will be a massive hugely expensive renovation and they might just leave the locker rooms the way they are????

  14. avatar JayK says:

Leviticus #13 — best answer of the day. Maybe in the past month!

  15. avatar Izzy says:

You have to be nuts to take a day off work for this nonsense. I love my team but geez, this is a ridiculous request.

  16. avatar KO21 says:

I think with Wanger at the helm, founder of CA, the new NVMC, should have the most up to date high technology, of the NHL

  17. avatar KO21 says:

I don’t think its a terrible request to support what you love. If you can’t make it, you can’t make it. I’m proud of the people who do.

  18. avatar Section 320 rocks!!!!!! says:

#3 he is in town as it is his week to go around the community and stuff. He is signing later that day at the team store and they had nothing planned for him earlier in the day so they probably figured why not bring him down to this.

  19. avatar JAM says:

    Move to Queens!
    L. I. doesn’t have the infrastructure nor the people per square mile to accommodate the needs for this project.
This might seem like a great idea at first, but what if
    -The 2,300 residences aren’t sold.
    - Or the one million square feet of new class A office space doesn’t rent.
    - And don’t forget about the approximately 500,000 square feet of complementary retail, restaurants, and cafes.

Who’s paying for those short comings. I know, the people of Nassau County. Yes, the people of Nassau County who pay the 4th largest property taxes in the nation.

I’m not saying don’t do this project. I’m just say watch what you wish for, you might just get it.

  20. avatar Jeff says:

All great points. Why do this during the week when a lot of people are working. All I can is if I was still a college student and was not working, I would definitely be there. It woud be nice to see a rally on the weekend. What is that e mail address again to write to the Town of Hempstead to show support? For some reason, I have a feeling this will get done, but August 4th seems to be pivotal for this. I ahve not seen any major objections to this project, just some very obstinate politicans and people out there.

  21. avatar Jill says:

Really wish I could be there but will be in Vegas at the NHL Booster club convention. Hope alot of people show up to support this project..

  22. avatar cgs878 says:

The Islanders should politely ask all of their current and former players to show up.

#19- the project will take 10 years. I say, let’s worry about it then. Build something now and give people short-term jobs! Whomever is left on Long Island in 2019 can figure it out as of that point in time.

  23. avatar Danielle says:

To everyone who is complaining about why they’re holding it during the “work week” – um, to them, this is their work. It is a business day for them to hold the hearing. They would not do it on a weekend when all their offices are closed and their employees are off. I thought that was pretty obvious.

I also don’t understand why supposed Islanders “fans” would come to an Islanders blog to protest the Lighthouse Project.

  24. avatar JayK says:

    Jam — #19 –

You can’t have both problems concurrently.

If these things were to occur — apartments not being sold, retail space empty, etc. — then the stress on the infrastructure won’t exist. There won’t be enough people over there to make an impact.

Secondly, if this failure scenario were to occur, why is this a burden on the county? It’s like any development: the financiers are the ones who would get stuck. Yes, the tax revenues would not meet projections, but you could say that about any potential project. You could use that argument to block the construction of a new house anywhere: well, the owners might default on their mortage, they won’t pay their taxes, we’re left holding the bag, so don’t build it.

BUT: If the apartments do get sold, and the place is a success, then the county gets its revenue.

You’re going to have to choose which scenario you think is more likely to occur. It’s inherently unfair to warn of both outlooks occuring at the same time. It’s not possible.

  25. avatar IslesHostage says:

I love how that picture illustrates how dire Long Island will be in need of Rickshaws to navigate through that congested maze of empty retail. Get to the games by 5:30 to ensure you have parking in one of the eleven different parking structures. Drive through the Source Mall and see how easy it’ll be with 9,000 cars trying to get to games.

Wang is a buffoon…..and in nine years has done so little to the lockerrooms, the fan experience….just advertisements for the Dragons and his real estate scam.

Cut the project down to a sensible level before it’s too late and taxes are raised to pay for upkeep.

  26. avatar JAM says:

    #22- I respect that.

My only problem with your theory is one of the problems I have with our county, LET OUR KIDS WORRY ABOUT IT!

To be honest with you. I don’t even live in L.I.. I live in Westchester. I just don’t want to see my fellow Islander fans getting screwed.

  27. avatar IslesHostage says:

Danielle: the Lighthouse is Charles Wang’s money. The team is our concern. If CW bought out SMG, back in 2000, and built a new arena, he wouldn’t need the Lighthouse and we wouldn’t get all the traffic and congestion and delays getting into games and the political BS. Instead, Wang is talking to SMG about a new contract after the LH is approved (albeit on better terms).

  28. avatar Hockey Guy in Canada says:

Does anyone remember what a joke the Isles were BEFORE Wang bought them? Gino Odjick got in trouble at team function for eating 3 pieces of KFC when only two were alotted to him (is that true?)! Gotta love the Milsteins! Build the Lighthouse or the Islanders will have to move. Threat, promise, whatever. Its reality and is has been since way before he purchased them.

  29. avatar Willis says:

Woulda, coulda, shoulda IslesHostage, but it is what it is now. If it works out its a great thing for so many.
And Jam, anything worth doing will have some risk to it. And now (economically) is probably the best time for a big project like this. Almost everywhere in the country we NEED things like these big projects for all the jobs they help provide. There are many different types of uses involved in this scope (housing, entertainment, retail, office, parks, restaurants), so presumably the variety helps to buffer any one area that might at some point(s) have a tempoary slump. Anyway, its going to take 10 years to make the whole thing complete, but to me it looks and sounds like a great thing. I seriously would love to live there or even work there! And this is one huge thing LI can do to try to get themselves back on the map (so to speak) and feel proud of their innovativeness (can’t think of word) in finding a way to get and keep the young LI-ers that seem to have to move out just when they could be such a big part of the future ON Long Island.
I will be there on Tuesday and I don’t even live over there.

  30. avatar JAM says:

    #24 JayK

You’re correct to a certain extent

What if? They sell only 1000 residences out of 2,300.

-You’ll still need a maintenance crew at least 75% occupancy, to take care of garbage, snow removal, building systems etc. This also holds true for the one million square feet of new class A office space.

    - Schools will have to budget for a percentage of kids from the 2,300 max. NOT the 1,000 actual.

-Police and Fire departments will have to be increased.

  31. avatar JAM says:

    #29

Willis, have a great time. I hope your right.

  32. avatar 19404ever says:

I’m right behind you Willis #29, as I’m comming up from my South Florida perch. WE need a big and loud turn out to put the final nails in the LHP, no pund intended. LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. avatar LouD says:

#4 asked,”Why are they setting up these rally’s during the work week when nobody can make it”? Vukota, it’s because our elected officials refuse to work on the weekends. I guess they don’t make enough money.

  34. avatar TM says:

Hockey Guy 28, yes I remember. They were the worst team in the league, had a minimum payroll and lousy radio coverage. Just like now.

  35. avatar Mike in Bohemia says:

The difference being is now we have some hope.

  36. avatar Maverick says:

Me and my Girlfriend will be there.
