Wooo! I was worried about this one.

  4. avatar Vukota says:

    Good Job Garth!!

  5. avatar TuxTax says:

Cool, one less thing to worry about…

  6. avatar IslesFanInBkNY says:

Great! Thanks for the update CB!

  7. avatar CG in SC says:

Awesome! I like Comeau and hope he can hit the 20 goal plateau this year. Please don’t laugh at me for saying that!

  8. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

WOW!!!! Read my mind … I was just wondering what was going on with Blake’s contract after I posted on the Lighthouse thread.

Great way to start the week!!

  9. avatar Doug says:

Comeau signed I guess that means I should start saving for playoff tickets…

  10. avatar KO21 says:

It’s good to see this kid get rewarded for his hard work and dedication to making the big club…I believe Comeau will be a great 3rd line on our next Stanley Cup team…

  11. avatar Pete DeBenedetto says:

Nice to see Hockey news…..stay positive LI…this will be approved.

  12. avatar Ethan K says:

    Aright!!! About time.

  13. avatar mike 8 says:

Glad Comeau is on board, now lets get Matt Martin done.

  14. avatar Yashin for President says:

now go sign Matt Martin… please!

  15. avatar jcapisles says:

“One less thing to worry about?” Please. How about going out and getting someone who has actually proven something in the NHL. I’m waiting for all these Garth trades and bargain-basement, sneak-through-the-cracks FA signings. Why do I think this team is going to camp as is?

  16. avatar Frank nyc says:

Good. I still believe Blake can turn into a player. Glad they are givng him another 2 years. They made the mistake of gving up on players to early in the past. They are trying not to make the same mistakes as the Milbury regime. Now get Matt Martin signed!

  17. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Good! What were the terms?

  18. avatar Smokey says:

Great news. I wish he would’ve taken a leap of faith like he did with Nielsen and given Comeau 3 or 4 years, but this will do just fine.

  19. avatar art says:

One problem is finding space for our rebuilding. If someone has to go its Tamby- please trade him he is not another Bertuzzi actually more like a Torres.

  20. avatar Bob says:

#20: I’d be happy if he played like Raffi Torres! Tambellini should be on a real short leash this season. He’s been given the time an opportunity to become a regular NHL player. As far as the Comeau signing, I think he has much more upside than many of the prospects we currently have. Good signing.

  21. avatar Tavares #1 says:

    Good news, Martin next.

  22. avatar Michael from Toronto says:

Good signing. I’m sure it was not for huge money. Hopefully he learned his lesson last year when he was sent to the Bridge. He has the potential to be a pest while also putting up some points.
Something tells me Snow is not done with the roster. I feel a trade coming soon.

  23. avatar jack says:

    M-ake an offer
    A-ny kind of offer
    T-ake tambys spot
    T-ake simms spot

    M-aybe 30 goals like gillies
    A-mazing tough guy
R-eady to dig in the corners
    T-ough as nails
    I-nternal fortitude
    N-ever backing done

    SNOWMAN SIGN HIM NOW!!!!!!

  24. avatar art says:

Bob #21 Tamby #i pik LA had 15 pts last season. Torres 20 pts last season #1 pik NYI both big dissapointments for the Isles! I think Blake will do much better.

  25. avatar DLR says:

Tamby and Torres should never be in the same sentence. Torres plays like a wrecking ball, almost willing Edmonton to a Cup a few years back. Tamby is a candy arse fruitcake who doesnt deserve one more second of ice time .

  26. avatar coral springs isle fan says:

He certainly has enough skill to be a 20 goal scorer. I have a feeling he will be more of a play maker than a goal scorer. He will have to be more physical and go to the net more. He is learning and may be a late bloomer in terms of points. Two years on a one way is worth it. Sometimes the ones with the most potential need to be treated differently. I think Gordon did the right thing last year. I think it was a lesson learned for Comeau and wouldn’t be surprised if he has a good year this year. I feel like the Isles have a good problem in a way now… they have very good play makers and too few finishers. The wingers need to step up and allow Nielson, Bailey, Weight, Comeau and of course Taveres to set the table with success. It would be great if our playmakers could also contribute in terms of goal scoring as well. Wishful thinking of course but at least Tavares is a center with goal scoring ability. The skill is certainly upgraded but we need to see results in order to be successful.

  27. avatar Thomas32 says:

Good news!! I liked Blake and wouldn’t want to see him anywhere else!! Knowing our past , he would HAUNT the Isles eveytime he played against them. Good move Garth , see everyone tommorow at the Rally!!!

  28. avatar Blizzard says:

Glad. I like the kid, has a bit of an edge. I think he has upside and could be a nice peace to the puzzle.

  29. avatar KLann says:

    niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  30. avatar kevin27NYI says:

    nice.

  31. avatar NYIFAN09 says:

Sign Tanguay….. Would create a half-way decent team.

  32. avatar LouD says:

#16, The Isles won’t be doing anything big in free agency for another year or two. We know this because the general manager made it known to all Islander fans that they are rebuilding and will not be spending money on players who won’t be around in 3 years. Don’t hold your breath waiting for something to happen, just sit back and watch the young guys come into their own. That’s the only way we’re going to find enjoyment while watching our team for a bit.

  33. avatar billy says:

thank god, i was really worried he wouldnt re-sign or be traded. he will be a huge key and who knows maybe 25-30 goals per year at his peak.

    great big sigh of relief!!!!!!!!!!

  34. avatar MommaTambs says:

Why call a player you don’t even know nasty names? What did Tambellini ever do to anyone. He hasn’t lived up to the expectations fans put on him so we berate him. Seems unfair and I think if people didn’t live vicariously through their sports teams maybe they wouldn’t be so harsh with their critiques. Meaning if you accomplish something in your own life you won’t have to rely on hockey players to fulfill your dreams and therefore won’t feel the need to hate someone you don’t even know.

  35. avatar Netminder39 says:

Nice move by Snow. Are we still under the cap floor now?

  36. avatar Andy says:

Did we seriously just have an acrostic poem for Matt Martin up there?

  37. avatar nyichamp39 says:

I like Blake. He has some great hustle and hockey sense. Definitely keeping him around. Now if we could only clear tambellini out of the way so that Blake and the others can get more ice time…

  38. avatar Mike L says:

MommaTambs- I’m a Tamby fan too. People forgot he played well at the end of the season and led the team in hits towards the end of the season, yet has the reputation as a softy. But hey, there’s always got to be one player on the team people love to hate.

But let’s not get off topic. Comeau is a good player and I hoped he would get a longer contract. I guess he’s not too fond of the money on his contract. I’m hoping him, Tamby, and the other young guys could have a breakout year and let them prove they deserve the money they;re getting paid.

  39. avatar admin says:

Story updated: deal is for $650 K per…CB

  40. avatar Kevin27nyi says:

    wow Another great price!

  41. avatar hathead68 says:

Good news. Like a lot of other posters have said, let’s get Matt Martin signed now.

  42. At that price, absolutely no questions asked, even about the one way part of the contract.

  43. avatar Thomas says:

PHEW! I think with a team that gets better he also will get better..love the way he carries the puck..good news!

    Give them hell tomorrow everyone!

  44. avatar eye on the island says:

do we know if its a one or two way deal yet?

and see everyone tomorrow(take off if you have to)

  45. avatar JPinVA says:

    Signing Comeau is good news.
Martin not being signed is not so great.
CB not being re-upped still SUCKS… because who will even care abotu those two without Chris to keep us all engaged.

Good luck tomorrow. I’ll be there in spirit!

  46. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Nice some hockey news!!!!!!!!! :)

  47. avatar Tavares #1 says:

#39 Tambs was laying some people out near the end of the year. But he has to up his offensive production this year. 20 would be nice.

  48. avatar Jon says:

great move garth. not much to say other than i love comeau

  49. avatar louie dapuck says:

Glad the kid is back. Sign martin…forget any free agents this year.

  50. avatar steve says:

thanks garth – now sign martin!

  51. Good signing. Tanguay is not coming to the Island. I think Tanguay is holding out to see how much more he can get, and isn’t going to hastily sign with the Islanders because a bunch of fans want him there.

Matt Martin definitely needs to be signed.

  52. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

I like the deal a lot. Blakey has 2 years to prove himself and raise his numbers. And than re-sign with the club for a mill or two.

  53. avatar Brian From Jersey says:

Oh man… I was hoping for the return of Satan …. Sign Matt Martin and CB

  54. avatar Bri on LI says:

Nice signing. Matt Martin should be the next player signed, and CB the next blogger!

  55. avatar Irish Isle says:

Must agree with my compatriots, sign Matt Martin

  56. Garth: Sign Matt Martin, please, Thanx

  57. avatar kyle says:

great to see comeau signed…. do u think theres any chance we go for zherdev wit the blue skirts walkin away from his contract….

  58. avatar Chris TMC says:

Martin has another entire year to sign even in the worst case… Blake was much more important to get done timewise. Im very happy about this :)

  59. avatar Un Beaver says:

Wouldn’t mind bringing Zherdov to the Isles now. I think he’d do well here.

  60. avatar justin says:

    Yep! Matt Martin please!

  61. avatar Kevin says:

    Martin yes. Zherdov NO!

  62. avatar SCLI says:

Now its time to sign Matt Martin. As for that uninformed fan that wants Satan back! You are kidding? Right?
