HARD TIMES FOR HOCKEY FANS
Lighthouse, CBA battles never end

by admin on August 31st, 2009 at 11:39 am

I just posted on Twitter, “Islanders’ Oct. 3 deadline for Lighthouse “certainty” won’t be met. NHLPA gasses another chief. Being a hockey fan is often not very easy.” Gosh, it would be so much easier to have an obsession with the NFL. More on Lighthouse later in this space, more on Paul Kelly (plus a feature on Anze Kopitar) in my new home at Fanhouse. And here I thought I could ease in to my first day on the NHL beat…

So does this mean ared light for the Isles staying here, or is it a yellow light and does that mean we are waiting to see if the change is to red or green? I’ll answer my own question with its in Wang’s court. I think he has anticipated this further delay for some time and has a strategy lined up to deal with this. I hope its not a call to KC but then again that might be the kind of move that will get noticed by the TOH>

Problem is, I didn’t pick the sport, the sport picked ME. But I have been thinking lately about temporarily abandoning it. And starting to pay attention to a different sport.

    We’ll see.

Just went to Fanhouse. Nice job on the Kopitar story. It’s all of the in-depth stuff we’ve come to expect from you Chris. You will have no problems drawing immediate, positive attention to yourself. Keep up the good work and Good Luck!

The Christopher Botta guy at FanHouse sounds very well informed on Mr. Kopitar. The LA Kings may just make the playoffs this coming season with their matured base of young players and their summer acquisitions. That’ll be interesting to watch.

Is the NHLPA in trouble? Please don’t let us have another lockout/lost season! Ugh. Sounds like there will be no lack of controversy on the Island this season.

if the lighthouse project is turned down, will Charles Wang be willing to build his own state of the art arena where he could put anything and everything he wants in it on the Coliseum grounds?

Did anyone see who was sitting with Kelly while he was waiting for the decision? The good guys: Heals and Flats! I miss that show. The NHL cannot afford any more BS!

Check out TSN story about Oilers pursuing a new multi use development, including new arena, to revitalize downtown area and house The team whose lease is up in 2014…. what a great idea!

    I hate twitter

    Twitter is over capacity.

Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again.

sadly, Flatley is out. But at least he left by his own conviction, and he did it with some integrity. If Hargrove screws up the NHL like the CAW, you can kiss it goodbye this time. People will stop caring altogether, and from a purely speculative point of view, it doesn’t boost the Islanders chances of a new Arena if the NHLPA is now in turmoil. (I realize this is a significant longshot of any tumultuous end, but it just adds fuel to the fire and one more excuse to add to the delay of building the Lighthouse for all the good reasons in excess of hockey.)

I can’t see Wang waiting more than a couple of months after his oct 3rd deadline before he sells the team. To be honnest I can’t really blame him he has waited over 7 years for a new arena, and lost hundreds of millions trying to keep the Islanders were they belong. Sadly nobody seems to want to work with him from the town to get this project done.

Wow… it was only a few weeks ago that the state was pledging its support, the givernor was visiting, the rally, the spoeeches, why does everyone forget about all of that so fast? Now suddenly its that there is nobody at all anywhere who wants to do anything? How do thoughts swing so wildly?

The teams cable contract is worthless if the team moves out of this area- and it is probably the majority of the teams worth right now. Is that forgotten, too?
