9:28 - Final.

9:19 – Rechlicz takes his third fighting major, pushes Colin White as he leaves the ice with game misconduct.

9:15 – Brendan Shanahan makes it 4-2 off a feed from Bergfors.

8:37 – Parise to Zajac makes it 3-2 with two minutes left in the second.

8:30 – Streit and Rolston PP goals make it 2-2. Dwayne Roloson throws a punch.

8:12 – Devils tie it up on a goal by You-Know-Who.

8:06 – Jack Hillen power play goal early second gives Islanders 1-0 lead. Matt Moulson picks up his 5th assist of the preseason.

8:00 pm - Fourth line challenger Jeremy Reich broke his wrist in a first period fight.

Early contender for Tweet of the season by Katie Strang: “(Rechlicz) has definitely shown he can take a punch.”

Here’s the Islanders’ lineup for tonight’s preseason tilt in New Jersey. The D is set. It’s only a question of whether they sign and keep Calvin de Haan (out with groin strain) for the start of the season. Matt Moulson has been the good surprise of camp. He will likely stick. Most other decisions at forward revolve around the availability of Kyle Okposo, Trent Hunter and Doug Weight for Saturday’s season opener. The addition of Rob Schremp is not good news for Greg Moore.

The game can be heard with Devils announcers Matt Loughlin and Sherry Ross calling the action on wfan.com. With de Haan out, this game has few storylines for Islanders fans to follow. Besides Moulson, bubble players are merely playing to be injury replacements for Saturday.

Bergenheim – Tavares – Moulson

Tambellini – Bailey – Sim

Smith – Moore – Comeau

Reich - Marcinko – Rechlicz

Streit – Martinek

Witt – Hillen

Sutton – Meyer

Roloson

  2. avatar Blizzard says:

.. Wrecker….. no glass Joe. lol

  3. avatar dave says:

  4. avatar max says:

like wat i saw from rechlicz hes our enforcer

  5. anyone think snow will pick up matt lashoff off waivers tomorrow morning?

  6. avatar MattyB says:

Somthing to note in this game so far…We are getting beat in faceoffs 22 to 5…That’s pretty bad

  7. avatar doc says:

    Another game… another injury. Crazy.

  8. avatar i4e11 says:

You’re starting to get nervous about Tavares because he hasn’t scored in a meaningless set of games? Wow.

  9. avatar TuxTax says:

Witter Clarkson…finally Witter(even though he kinda lost according to the Devs announcers)

  10. avatar Matt says:

somewhere mike milbury has a smile on his face after parise burns the islanders once again. how did that man have a job for so long?

  11. avatar Frank Marino says:

Chris, do you think the isles will try to claim Lashoff?

  12. avatar dave says:

im not saying im getting nervous but he hasnt shown anything good hes only shown skills that normal nhl players have and hes not a good skater at all hell probably end up being good but not to his mega superstar status

  13. avatar max says:

Tavares needs to be a better skater

  14. avatar teddyfusi says:

    tavares hit post tonight

  15. avatar Chris says:

Let me guess.. the islander killer Zach Parise scored?

  16. avatar TuxTax says:

Way to Go Roloson! Glad to hear that he isnt gonna take any crap!

  17. avatar ACISLES says:

    These Devils commentators are horrid

  18. avatar art says:

The way things are going, we are going to run out of bodies. No we won’t be playing with AHL PLAYERS-We will be using ECHL players Don’t worry the fall back plan is the Ice Girls some of them are good skaters!

  19. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

Is the game shown somewhere on the Net?

  20. avatar Steven says:

I think it’s a little early to push the panic button on JT. There have been plenty of guys that have dominated the NHL without being the best skaters. No matter what happens I’m not going to say the Isles should have taken Hedman.

  21. avatar TuxTax says:

Anyone miss Mearsy and Kinger right now? No need to worry about Tavares until at least December. Don’t expect ridiculous numbers. It’s time to see what Josh and Kyle can do early.

  22. avatar dave says:

tavares hasnt rely shown any glipses that he will be a superstar

  23. avatar corey says:

its pre season and what is it his 3rd maybe 4th NHL game? what are you guys getting worried about? its going to take some time

  24. avatar max says:

dos anyone here agree that de Haan should make the team?

  25. avatar Max says:

i think de haan is gonna be a star

  26. avatar NickyL says:

Dave, 4 pre-season games mean nothing. Tons of guys have great pre-seasons and it never translates into the season. People can’t expect 40 goals and 100 points from JT. Its not happening. Expect something more like Patrick Kanes rookie year, when he had 72 points.

  27. avatar Staten Islander says:

Relax on JT, he’ll be fine. He’s 19 and going to start slowly.

  28. avatar Daniel says:

de Haan should not play in the NHL this year. He needs one more year minimum to develop with Oshowa. If Hodgson can get sent down after being drafted 10 overall in 2008 and being named the junior player of the year AHEAD of Tavares, de Haan should definitely not be in the league. It’s not like he is 200 pounds he is 170 soaking wet. There is no good reason to keep him here.

  29. avatar TuxTax says:

Hey CB are you gonna take a look at some of the Isles International prospects again this year?

  30. avatar doc says:

Let’s be more realistic with Tavares. 50 to 60 points will be an awful lot. That’s roughly 25 goals and 35 assists. I will take that in a heart beat!!!

In preseason he’s been paired with Park and Moulson. Not exactly Bossy and Gillies you know.

    DOC

  31. avatar isles316 says:

remember. joe thornton was awful his rookie year. I think he ended up ok

  32. avatar Max says:

we need a big name player to play with tavares. How will he be able to do all of it on his own?

  33. avatar joe says:

    commentators are so bad

  34. avatar misterpink says:

they certainly are. oh, you mean the ones on the radio ..

  35. avatar misterpink says:

also – Tavares leads all forwards in ice time for the game?? – way to ease him into the NHL Gordo. Don’t put any pressure on him too early or anything .. jeez.

Hope that trend doesn’t continue into the regular season.

  36. avatar James says:

Honestly, let’s not get worked up about Tavares in the pre-season. After the season is over, then we can maybe start to assess.

As someone above said, and as has been said elsewhere, the first years of guys like Thornton, Staal, and Lecavalier were nothing to write home about and they turned out okay.

  37. avatar ACISLES says:

To expect more than 50 points from Tavares may be a setting your self up to be disappointed. He is joining the team that has scored the fewest goals the last 2 seasons, sure he is going to help in that area but dont expect miracles. 25 goals and 25 assists or somewhere around there would be a good start for him.

  38. avatar Dadi says:

    Victor Hedman…oh,never mind…

  39. avatar Chris TMC says:

I have to LOL @ the “8:12 – Devils tie it up on a goal by You-Know-Who” update… yes we all know who. His 1st goal of the preseason- of COURSE it is against the Isles!

  40. avatar Staten Islander says:

JT did have an assist tonight and hit a post

  41. avatar Spartiarti - RVC says:

Very funny how people look at preseason. Tambellini was one of best last preseason and look how he did in reg season. Tavares going to be a star. That is for sure. How long it takes him to adjust? That will depend. He’ll get over 20 this year. I can’t say I’m upset reich got hurt. The less ahlers we have the better. Moulson sim wrecker jackman thompson are our grinders. That’s plenty.

Pens are 1-5 in preseason. Do u guys think they going to suck? Come on guys its preseason.

  42. avatar west coast isles fan says:

I have reached the logical conclusion, that since over 70% of the posts on every gameday thread this preseason are of the nitpicking and overly negative variety, it must mean that either:

    a) there are a greater percentage of negative nitpickers on ibp (de haan needs to be sent down, hes only 170 lbs! forget how hes actually physically DOING in the games, its all about size! We need an enforcer, he would have some how prevented, in a “Minority report” precog fashion, a 6 ft 4 phaneuf from headhunting! Tavares hasn’t scored this preasons, he must most totally blow!)

    or
    b) The negative nitpickers are just a more vociferous bunch.

I cant wait to see what you guys got in store for the actual regular season! IT provides me some levity after a long day to see others grumble so much over trivial, minute facets of the game :)

  43. avatar Peter DeBenedetto says:

Tell me when it’s Saturday Night.

  44. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio, From Merrick, LI says:

You-know-who always scores and brings me back to that day I was so excited he fell in our laps, only to watch them pick Nill-son. Salt in the wound again!

  45. avatar I'm In A NY (Brooklyn) State Of Mind says:

Just got home from the game.. TAVARES IS NOT READY FOR THE NHL! In all honesty, I don’t think the ISLES are either.. no doubt this is a last place team.. With the 2010 first round draft pick, The Islanders select …..

  46. avatar Mike L says:

Tamby has had a good pre-season. I hope it can carry on into the regular season

  47. avatar Jerky says:

Rechlicz can’t get into 3 fights every game … he needs some support.

CB – do you have any inside connections to see if we can get an answer from the top as to their logic for not beefing up this team (both in an enforcer capacity as well as the rest of the team)? This can’t be 100% about money … enforcers are generally the cheapest assets to sign.

  48. avatar Chris TMC says:

west coast isles fan (44): I think it is a combination of both a & b… then you combine that with theat paranoid “OMG something is gonna go wrong” feeling that we ALL struggle with as as Isles fans, and there you go! ;)

  49. avatar CJCB says:

Rechlitz must stay! Whatever happened to hockey players being the toughest athletes in the world, did the Isles get that memo? Besides the Wrecker this is got to be the weakest set of players ever assembled.

  50. avatar CJCB says:

We are going to get crushed in the East, did the Isles get the memo Burke is back in the east? How they even consider not already handing Rechlitz a job is mind boggling? Jackman doesn’t scare the 11 year olds at iceworks how does he expect to intimidate men? Hopefully the 3-4 goals he scores are worth what he doesn’t provide.

  51. avatar starz31 says:

The Isles arent ready for the NHL? WOW…consider me shocked. I hope most posters here get their expectations back to reality. We…Are…Rebuilding. It takes time. But, again, I forgot NY isn’t high on patience. I feel bad for the Isles, these kids dont stand a chance with you guys.

  52. avatar starz31 says:

Dave, Tavares is 19!! He’s never played an NHL game before. Learn to expect some growing pains and your stress level will go down. The kid will show flashes, dont worry. Patience people, please.

  53. avatar CJCB says:

Why do people think that because you are rebuilding there is a set timetable for success? If you build it right why cant it be done in a year or 2 years, nothing says rebuilding has to take 4-5 years? Thats just a lame excuse, what happens in 4-5 years a the team still stinks? Would we still be rebuilding? We dont even know if the current crop of players we are rebuilding with are going to be any good and you have to factor in every other team doing the same thing. You also have to factor in whether the guys we are rebuilding around want to stay here long term, many factors and alot of excuses. I’m not in the excuses business i want results, and i want results now!!!

  54. avatar CHAD says:

#1 overall 2010 pick, its obvious
