The moment has come to draw a line in the sand. Each reader gets one shot. Read the lengthy article in Sunday’s Newsday, a history lesson on the Lighthouse Project. It is well-researched, well-written and balanced. After you read the article and have time to think it through, it’s time for you to take a stand.
Provide your name (or as much as you’re comfortable with), your town and anything else you want to share. Declare if you are for or against the Lighthouse Project. Only one entry per reader, so spread the word to your fellow citizens. (I know Sunday night starts Yom Kippur and I’m sorry about the timing; the Newsday story today and Saturday’s deadline make this a pressing manner).
Vote for the Lighthouse Project as is. Pretend you are the Hempstead Town board and either accept or reject the developers’ application. No talk of “scaling it down” here. Whether you like it or not, they’ve been at this for more than five years. The project is what it is. That’s what you’re voting on today.
I assume any readers that wanted to contact the Town, the County or the LDC over the last year have done so by now. This is about Point Blank readers and where you stand on the Lighthouse Project. I know the site has thousands of readers who never post in Comments. This might be the right time to make an exception. Now is the time to let your voice be heard in this forum. Take my word for it: your entries will be read.

Name, town, yea or nay on Lighthouse. Explain why in 200 words or less. One post per reader. Spread the word. Thank you.

I vote YES YES a billion YESSES!!!
Save Long Island. Save the Islanders.
Enough with the politics of NO.
The right wing says NO to everything from peace to health to love to jobs. It’s time to go forward NOT backward. It’s time to stop the silly excuses. i vote YES to the future. -
My name is Victor T. I’m from East Meadow and this is the first time I have made a comment even though I’m here every day. I am for the Lighthouse. Hope this helps.

Change scares people. When I was 17-years-old I became permenantly disabled. More than 20 years later, I am a husband and a father. If I had not accepted change and did not try to move foward the world and life would have left me far behind. I’ve been attending Islander games since I was a boy making the couple hour trip from Jersey every year. I want to pass that on to my boy. I want to show him that selfishness and greed do not make you a better person. If you cheat the future, everything done in the past is wasted. Let’s not cheat the future of Long Island.
-
Ken C, Wantagh. Put me down for YES on the Lighthouse and let’s get thousands of people back to work!
-
I am for the project. I think that the powers that be in our local government have been to concered about the impact of the project that no one has stopped and looked at what happens if nothing gets done. traffic would still continue to get worse and it would probably cost twice as much to mitagate in 10 years then it would now. Also it is a quality of life issue. Our Island needs a facelift and culture change because right now our island is dying as each day passes it depresses me to read about people losing their jobs companies moving drugs. we need something to be proud of

#8 Respect for what you wrote.

110% FOR the Lighthouse! -
I am a 39 year old life lifelong Islander fan. I watched them win all 4 Stanley Cups and I have watched them through all of their struggles. The Islanders are Long Island. This is where they belong, it just wouldn’t be the same without them. Lets do whatever it takes to keep them here.
-
Yehudah Block, Teaneck, NJ. I am for the lighthouse.
-
Victoria G, Merrick, LONG ISLAND, NY. You should’ve done this a while ago. I am FOR the Lighthouse. I have been FOR it for 5 years.
-
My name is John, I’m soon to be 26 years old and I’ve lived in Nassau County/Town of Hempstead for the majority of my life. I am FOR the Lighthouse Project, not just because of the Islanders (although it’s a big part of the reason) but also for the benefit of Nassau County.
-
Adam – I live within the ToH and I’m in FAVOR of the Lighthouse project and I hope that it’s passed ASAP
-
Shawn, Medford, I am for the lighthouse because it will keep L.I’s only sports franchise on LI, and it will help me have a better chance of living on the Island with more affordable housing.
-
My name is Paul Maggio and I’m 100% for this project. I’ve been going to games since I was a little kid. I’m a 21 year old college student and make it a priority to see 20 games a year. I go on the road to the Garden and even a few games at the rock in Newark. The Lighthouse is more than a fancy new arena, Long Island needs this! WE need this to keep kids like me from leaving NY to find jobs.
-
Jane A from Hicksville. I don’t want to give up my whole name but I hope this counts. Yes for the Lighthouse.

-
I am FOR the lighthouse. I have always thought they can do so much with the empty land around there finally they can.
-
my name is michael, and i’m an islander.
no , just kidding , but seriously..
i support the lighthouse on long island 100%. we need the jobs, we need the tax revenue, and most importantly WE NEED THE ISLANDERS to remain on long island for generations to come. this will ensure that and ensure that many of long island’s young adults remain on LI as well
michael i.
searingtown, ny -
Christian from Danbury CT and I am for the lighthouse. I am orgionally from Rockville Centre, and would love to move back to the Island once I am done with grad school. The lighthouse just might give me that option one day
-
My name is Rich Firth and I grew up on LI and went to my first Islander game during their first season while in middle school and have been a fan since then. I now live in Virginia but still have affection for the Island. As an Islander fan I can’t imagine them playing anywhere else. I was fortunate enough to watch them go from 12 wins in their first season to a Cup champion is an few years. Aside from the hockey its sad what has become on LI. The Lighthouse offers a chance for employment, development and progress for the Island. I have friends from LI who have worked in construction unions for years but now have no work, perhaps this can be a catalyst for better days for the Island. If successful the Lighthouse has the potential to give the Island a “center”, and a destination. There’s always a chance it won’t be successful but can anyone really say the staus quo is working now. No risk, no reward. I’ve been quiet on this issue because I’m no longer a resident, however the current quality of life options are some of the primary reasons I no longer live on LI.
-
Blaine Aronovitch, Great Neck, NY and i am for the lighthouse project
-
I am 100% for this project. Think about how times square looked back in the late 80s and how it looks today. It is because of desire to change and progress that helped transform that area to a playground for many. Disney invested and many others followed. You need to continue to build to maintain progress especially during a time of economic decline. TOH board doesnt seem to have the vision that the majority of us see. We need to start calling Kate Murray every day this week till deadline day. Scott from Nassau County fully supports this visionary project.
-
Hi, my name is Devon, and I’m an alcoho—
Whoops. I’m for the lighthouse.
-
My name is Sean. I am for this project because Long Island will loose its luster if we do not keep up with the times.
-
Danielle, Suffolk County
I am FOR the Lighthouse.
There are very, very few sites on Long Island that you could even say would draw people to come visit. The beaches? Most people outside NY will just go to the Jersey Shore. The Hamptons? Boring. I honestly don’t understand why we even have hotels here, because there’s no reason for people to visit. People will come to the Lighthouse.
-
I am kevin Morris from East Norwich, new York, and I support the lighthouse project 100%. I don’t understand how the ToH can say no to 19,000 permanent jobs, 75,000 construction jobs, $71M in annual tax revenue, and most importantly, the islanders. I have been going to games my entire life, 15 years, and I would never forgive the ToH and will never live down the disappointment if they leave. Just build it for the sake of Long Islanders and long Island.
-
Chris Primosch
TOH resident
Member of the 25-40 demographic leaving LI for better opportunities elsewhere… one of the few who remain here out of all my childhood, HS, and college friends.Lighthouse advocate.
I wholeheartedly support this project. LI businesses once sent men to the Moon, now you can hardly even find a professional job here. I do not want to work, recreate, and spend both my money and my time counties away from where I live. I want investment and opportunity right here on Long Island. I want Long Island to have a future. I want people to have a reason not to leave, and hopefully a reason to invest and build lives right here… the way it should be. I have witnessed Nassau Countys death throes for far too long.
-
I Andrew from Suffolk County am 1000% for the Lighthouse Project. People all over need to have jobs, and this project will change Long Island for the better!!!
-
Phil from Oceanside….YES..If we don’t take this opportunity to have a private developer invest in that property we will have a white elephant with an empty Coliseum in the middle of our county. The analogy I’d like to use is when Walter O’Malley was turned down by Robert Moses to build his ballpark for the Dodgers at the Corner of Flatbush and Atlantic in the center of Brooklyn in 1957. The property then sat vacant and rotting until the late 1990′s. Almost 40 years!! This is what we are looking at if this project is not pushed ahead. YES is my vote
-
From a displaced Islander fan living in Poughkeepsie, NY I vote YES for the lighthouse.
-
My name is Rich Tavani, I live in Huntington and I am 100% for this project
-
Zach, from White Plains NY, currently living in Ithaca NY. YES for lighthouse. My dad had season tickets since before I was born, we would drive the 45 mins+ each way from westchester for most of the games. The Islanders are the reason why I love hockey now.
-
Mike from Bellmore, NY and I am for the Lighthouse! I read the site everyday, first time commenting; we need the lighthouse to create temporary and permanent jobs for all Long Islanders, for the New York Islanders and most importantly for us the Fans!
-
Pro (I know, shocking)
-
My name is Jeremy from Hewlett, and I vote YES on the Lighthouse Project. It is the only way to keep the Islanders here. The developers are not making a great demand for public assistance on the development. While some might be adversely affected by the Lighthouse, it far and away serves the greater interests of local constituents and will be a shot in the arm sorely needed for a slowly decaying Long Island.
-
Yes from me and my family of six
-
Great to see so many first comments. Count me in too. I went to the Point Blank event at Dugans and couldn’t believe how many people were there. My name is Phil. First time long time. Yes for the Lighthouse and the Isles staying where they belong. Thanks to CB and eveyone who got on here on a Saturday night.
-
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I’m George from Middle Island and I am disgusted at politics in Long Island. We finally have a great project that would be a huge boost to the economy on Long Island and it is being drowned by beuracrats.
Try making a decision for the greater good as opposed to trying to boost power to one political party for your own personal gain.
As far as I know, a democracy is for the people, not for the elected officials who have failed the people of this country, specifically moreso for Long Islanders for many years.
Pass the zoning on the Lighthouse and get a shovel in the ground!!!
-
Michael from Edison, NJ.
Yes, I am for the Lighthouse 100%. Not only would it save our team, but it would provide excellent economic opportunities for LI residents. There is nothing not to like about it.
This is not about party politics. How’s about you do what the people want, for once…
-
Peter Lee, Toronto, Canada
I am FOR the Lighthouse project.
-
I’m AJ from Bohemia, NY but I am a student at UMass. I am 100% absolutely for this project. The Isles are my life and have driven my passion for hockey enough to start a roller hockey club here at school. HEY KATE, JUST BUILD IT!
-
I’m from Baldwin. My vote is yes for the Lighthouse Project. Thank you
-
My name is Erika and I live in Baldwin. I am FOR the Lighthouse! This red tape has gone long enough! This is what Nassau County, and more importantly, the Town of Hempstead need. It is more than essential for the economic growth on Long Island. Please, Town Board members…do it for the Islanders. Do it for the Town & County. Do it for YOURSELVES!!
-
Harris Peskin from Syosset, N.Y
I am in favor of the Lighthouse project. -
Brendan from North Bellmore. I am for the Lighthouse Project because my family needs a reason to stay in one of the most expensive counties in the country, and not move off the Island.
-
Ajax from W. Babylon, I support the project.
-
Grew up in East Meadow so my vote should count. Yes from me.
-
Tony. Smithtown. Oh God yes.
-
My name is Scott C. I am a Long Islander and I fully 1,000,000 % support the Lighthouse Project.
I support it for the jobs it will create, for the hosuing, the idea of having a destination on the Island, and of course keeping the Islanders right here. If this project were to go by the waste side then I would never forgive Kate Murray members of the board or Joe Mondello and Al D’amato although there role isn’t clear theyve had neg. parts in this.
“Just Build It” for the Islanders and the future of this great area!!
-
Scott M – 29 – East Meadow
I am for the Lighthouse Project not only to keep the Islanders here…but to keep the future of Long Island here. We need to create jobs..make the area an attractive place to live…Do what needs to be done..and build it!
-
I’ve exhausted myself worrying about losing my team, which is really part of my soul. I’m sure many if not all of you feel the same way. But this project is soooooo much bigger than just Islanders hockey. It is for the future of Long Island. For lack of a better word, the area surrounding the Coliseum has become obsolete. I have tried my hardest to look at the project from the other end of the spectrum and try to understand why the ToH leadership is so opposed to the project. I have thought, and thought and thought and I still have no idea how anyone could think that the con’s of the Lighthouse outweigh the pro’s. The shortsightedness of the ToH board is incomprehensible. Would the construction of the project be inconvenient for a period of time? Yes. But at commenter #40 stated, the economical benefits of the project would be felt by so many people. It would give Long Islanders such pride… Something to rally around. The Islanders would be the focal point of that rally. The baron land currently surrounding the Coliseum would be transformed into a cultural epicenter for many many years. Enough said, I can’t go on with this anymore. Build it… for every reason.
-
Sal Farieri. I vote YES for the Lighthouse. Lots of Tax Revenue for the County and jobs created. Everyone else approved it. Time for the town of hemsptead to step up and do the right thing and allow the project to be fully built.
-
A resounding YES..YES..YES.YES. Mrs Murray if your so concerned about the recession..then maybe you should take a Economics course at NCC or Hofstra..Economics 101..JOB CREATION is one of the best ways to come out of a recession…Look ..Obama, The President of these United States passed the stimulous plan to create jobs maybe you should to by approving the lighthouse project.
-
Risk taking if there even exists one in this Project can create reward, where doing nothing can only result in atrophy and death! It is time to cast aside the self absorbed interest groups along with the politically motivated stonewalling maggots and do whats best for the constituency of LI by relieving them of an ever increasing tax burden and improving their quality of life! That only scratches the surface of what this Project and resulting Hub will provide! I have stated many times that I find it incomprehensible that a small committee of a Township has the power to determine the future of an entire County if not an entire geographic mass(LI) larger than some states!! I without reservation vote FOR The Project by proxy, since I no longer reside in NY!!! Although that is the case,I feel qualifed to cast my vote since my heart hasn’t and will never leave! If my voice and others here are ignored, get the damn ‘State Of New York’ and its Governor involved!! GET IT DONE!!!!!!
-
My name is Mike and I Iive in Suffolk. I vote YES to the Lighthouse Project. I grew up in Uniondale and have many memories of the Islanders dynasty years. My oldest child is seriously thinking of leaving Long Island because of the same concerns as most of our children. This political garbage and NIMBY crap has to stop. Long Island runs the risk of not only losing our young adults, but also the parents who very well may follow them. I also happen to be for the Heartland Town Square project out here. To reiterate … YES, YES, YES to the LIghthouse ProJect!
-
Ryan from Hofstra and I say YES YES YES to the lighthouse project.
-
I’m John Crozier and I support the Lighthouse project. I am a 16 year old high school student and I need this project to ensure my future here as well as the future of our beloved New York Islanders.
-
Tim LaRocco, Lindenhurst. A recent college graduate who will absolutely be forced to leave Long Island in due course if something like the Lighthouse is not built.
I am FOR this project. -
Yes, Build it or we are done on Long Island. The Heart beat of this Island, are the NeW York Islanders!
-
Fred, East Rockaway, NY.
I vote YES for the Lighthouse Project.
I’m 29 years old, have lived here all my life, I’ve been working in the city for awhile and am thinking about moving there to recoup my commuting time. I would prefer to get a job in Nassau County but I can’t, all the high profile jobs aren’t here.
Case in point, I started my career on Long Island, the company I worked for, in an effort to attract bigger and better clients moved to the city. Frankly, Long Island doesn’t have that *it* that attracts progress.
There is no future for work or real estate on Long Island without this development.
-
I am Greg Niemczyk from Farmingdale,Long Island,New York and I am for the Lighthouse Project not only because I’m an Islander fan, and always will be, but also because I’m a Long Islander and knows that Uniondale and Nassau County needs the Lighthouse Project, especially in the world we’re in today with the economy the way it is and the way the field for jobs has been. Not only is this good for the Islanders but it’s going to create jobs in this time of need during the construction and after it’s done and going to help the economy.I don’t get how it’s not done yet.IT’S A NO BRAINER.
-
Brian C, Floral Park, I’m 100% for this project as currently planned.
-
I lived most of my life in West Babylon, and I moved to West Virginia in March 2007, having found a good Postal job there and feeling like my luck in NY had run out, especially with the high cost of living.
If Long Island wants me and other Long Island “ex-pats” back and is serious about it, then the Lighthouse MUST be greenlighted! This is a wonderful opportunity for employment, a decent place to live and – yes – a lively home arena to watch the Islanders in, not the dark, dank hulk I went to for an Islander-Ranger game in March 2007 immediately before my move (my last Island hurrah – for now).
“Build it, and we will come…back!!”
I emphatically say YES to the Lighthouse and everything it stands for!! -
Dan from Auburn, AL (via Dix Hills).
I am 100 percent for the Lighthouse and cannot fathom how anyone couldn’t be.
-
Kevin Fitzharris from Rochester, NY.
I am for this project.
While I believe the team will be better off competitively in Brooklyn or Queens, this is a team with a lot of tradition in Nassau County and that is where they belong.
-
Dave D
Massapequa NY
I am for the lighthouse project 100% -
Constantine Rekatas- 31 years old. Grew up in North Woodmere and currently reside in Valley Stream. Life-long Islanders fan, until the moment I close my eyes for the final time. I am FOR the Lighthouse Project! (Don’t you DARE scale it down, back or OTHERWISE!)
You know me as Big Van Vader. My friends all know me as the biggest Islanders fan around. Before I knew what the Islanders WERE, my parents put me in front of the tv as an infant and I “watched” them win 4 Stanley Cups (Wish I could remember them!)
You all have already listed most of the reasons to have the POS, err, TOH approve this. Jobs, kickstart our economy, change LI for the better, keep our kids here, etc..
Mine is simple. It’s just so I don’t have to hear my stinking, Ragger fan brother chant, “Kan-sas Ci-ty” ever again!!!!
BY ALL THAT’S HOLY, APPROVE IT, AND APPROVE IT AS IS!!!!!! LONG ISLAND NEEDS TO START SOMEWHERE!!!
-
Oren, from Great Neck, New York
I am FOR the lighthouse
-
I’m Mike Bazata, give me the Lighthouse or give me death
-
Vasili A. From Massapequa NY. My wife and I support the Lighthouse Project! We are a young married couple that pays 11k in taxes on a small plot of land and we feel we don’t get a damn thing for it! We want to bring our children to a place where our family can have an experience! BTW. CB I was the guy at the meeting that was sitting to your left! Lost my cool a couple of times! Its hard for me to keep my big mouth shut! Thanks for all of your dedication and keep IPB alive!
-
I’m Al from Toronto, Ontario
The Lighthouse project must be approved. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain. Let’s get this thing going already!
-
Brett Sherman, currently in Cleveland, OH (via Dix Hills).
I am completely in favor of this project. It will kick start the local economy, create jobs, and carry Long Island into the 21st Century. Eventually, it will be hard to imagine Long Island without the Lighthouse.
-
Ethan Kaiser, Rockville Centre, NY
I am FOR this project 100 percent.
This project must get done. It’s time.
-
Toly G, an immigrant living in Brooklyn. I’d love to accomplish my American Dream and own home in Nassau County (pref. 5 towns). Yet, the property taxes and lack of reasonably priced homes are preventing young professionals like myself making Western Long Island a home. I hope Lighthouse gets approved and creates opportunities for young people. Yes to Lighthouse.
-
Bill from Massapequa. BUILD IT. Its time Long Island gets with the times. I love my yard as much as any “suburbia” loving person but for our population to not have some form of an urban center is unheard of and seems to be failing. This project WILL NOT solve Nassau County’s problems, but it is a step in the right direction. Remember its being built over 10 years so if part 1 is an epic failure, would the developers really continue to build the rest? Lets try to be proactive instead of reactive for once. BUILD THE LIGHTHOUSE
-
I just have to add, that this Newsday article is so heavily biased. I’m never reading a Newsday article again. I’m sick of it.
-
Mr and Mrs Chocolate Guy (Bryan and Margot) of Long Beach, NY are FOR the lighthouse. Just let them build it already. Long Island needs something. As a born and bred, I truly love it here. But as my business has grown and I see whats happening on the LI Business landscape, I am not as Diehard to stay anymore. Build the lighthouse, we need something!
-
I am for the Lighthouse Project without any qualifications, hesitations, or reservations.
The Lighthouse Project promises the kind of infill development that Long Island needs. The suburban sprawl was one major reason why I never returned to Long Island after I went away to college, despite being born and raised in Smithtown. The Lighthouse Project reverses the decades-long trend toward sprawl and provides the kind of central location that Long Island has lacked.
Charles Wang brings a 21st Century approach to redeveloping the suburbs. Unfortunately, the Town of Hempstead is trapped in 1950s thinking and the obsolete model of suburbanization that prevailed after World War II.
And, yes, I am an Islanders fan who would be devastated if the team left Long Island. But, that is only one reason why I support the Lighthouse Project.
I sincerely hope the Town of Hempstead can embrace the Lighthouse Project and the model of post-suburbanization development that underlies it.

FOR the lighthouse……
Post #41 is perfect and my stance as well. -
I forgot to mention I was from Rockville Centre. See post 72 for my stance…

-
TOH voter (Oceanside.) My entire immediate family, all TOH voters, 100% support the Lighthouse project as is. Regardless of whether this project was tied to the Islanders, it is tremendously important to the future of Long Island. Just Build It!
- Mike T.
-
Yay for the Lighthouse project. Anything that will keep the Isles in Long Island I am for. End of story.

Now in Tucson, Az
Barry P fully supports the Lighthouse
Its about 97-0 now.
Cmon Kate sign the friggin thing -
Jim Cavanagh, Northport — let C Wang build it!! for the future of Long Island we need this. If this was to be a publicly funded project I could see being opposed, but with private funding how is this not ALREADY done??
-
Matt Vigliotti, Baltimore, MD (via Hauppauge), I am for the lighthouse. My entire family has left LI for greener pastures. My siblings and I all wish we could have stayed on LI, but it just wasn’t economically viable for any of us. The LH project will help slow the mass exodus of young adults LI is curently experiencing, and may even influence further development and growth.
Ms. Murray, the overwhelming majority of your constituents want this project approved. The small minority that does not cannot protect your political future.

Wayne freeman
Port jefferson Station NY
100% for this project Long Island needs an arena that is not so outdated to draw big acts to. JObs will be created and most of all it will raise revenue for the county what more could you want. -
Anthony Corvino
Staten Island, NYI am for the Lighthouse Project.
-
Glenn Scott Giangrande,
Queens NYFOR the Lighthouse.
It’s not just about the Islanders, though obviously they matter significantly to the Point Blank audience. This will be a major development to help a stagnating Long Island economy after years and miles of red tape.
-
Steve Mosco
Glen Cove, NYFOR the Lighthouse.
-
John A, Stewart Manor, AGAINST the LHP until it gets scaled down. I wanna be able to get from the street my seat in under an hour and the parking situation and roadways look like a nightmare in design. Too much in too small a space. Traffic isn’t addressed adequately and ticket prices will shoot up. Wang has not hired good people yet to promote the need to keep the team, when will he? Hempstead spent tens of millions and the LHP will kill their renewal. Local businesses will feel the pinch (not WalMart, but small businesses). Homeowners adjacent to the LHP will suffer.
Scale it down and we’ll see. Wang/Suozzi will enable Wang’s out clause next week so what does this matter, anyway?
-
Oh, FOR the Coliseum refurbishment.
-
Former Uniondale resident (one of the many who have left the Island), currently residing near Chapel Hill, NC. I still have family living in Levittown and Wantagh. We are all 100% in favor of the Lighthouse. It’s the right thing for Uniondale, for the Town of Hempstead, for Nassau County and for all of Long Island.
-
I’m Kai from Norway and I’m all for the Lighthouse!
-
Levittown, New York. I am FOR this project.
-
Michael Bowman, Floral Park, FOR the Lighthouse
This is a great opportunity to create jobs not only for the construction but permanently for the entire development. Let’s face it, whether you like them or not, having the Islanders in Nassau County is great for the people on Long Island in that they do not have to travel into the city and can still experience the great live action of a professional sport at their convenience. Also, if the players are going to start making a big deal about the building and how outdated it is, so will bands and acts who perform there as well and that building will be a complete waste burning tax dollars.
-
I grew up in New Jersey and now live in Boca Raton, Florida. Although I have never lived on Long Island, I am a die-hard Islander fan, and have been making the trip to Nassau Coliseum several times a year–even if I now need a plane to do it. But without the Islanders, what reason do I ever have to come back to The Island? If not for the Islanders, I may have never spent a single dollar in my life on Long Island–believe me, the hundreds of games and trips to local restaurants and before and after games has cost me a mini-fortune over the years. People like me, which there are a lot of, will never come to Long Island if this project does not get completed. As someone who has followed this project from the outset, I see it as mind boggingly ridiculous how this project has been delayed. It’s bizarre the way that some people can’t see the benefit of The Lighthouse. Needless to say,I am 100% for it!
-
Damon Vetere
Holbrook, NYI am FOR the Lighthouse. Give LI hope and progress. Now is the time.
-
FOR. Cause that place is a giant cement eyesore, among other things. Jobs and such too.
-
I am FOR the lighthouse. The crack above section 315 is sign enough we need to move forward with this. Not to mention Uniondale is a dump and needs improving. Better community, more jobs, and a new brighter place for Long Island.

Mike M from St. James and that article was written beautifully. I cannot believe for a second the town will not see this through. They have 7 days to give Wang an answer or he’s serious that he’ll look at other options. This would be one of the worst political decisions in this country, ever, if this is not seen through. Could you imagine if Wang walks away? A barren wasteland with the world’s worst entertainment venue? No moron in their right mind could allow this to happen. No matter what politics go on, there is simply no way Murray can allow this. I am 200% FOR the project and I know most of you are too. This HAS to happen. It simply can’t.
-
Oh,and Bellport.
-
Tom – Grew up in Franklin Square – Own a home in Farmingdale, and currently live in Kansas City, MO. I vote YEA because I believe in progress. I’m a Hofstra graduate who spent the better part of his life either on campus or at the Coliseum and wants to see that part of town become very special. This is about more than just the Islanders.
-
Originally from Medford and now residing in New Paltz. Almost 30. Islanders fan as long as I can remember.
I’m tired of the opposition acting like those in favor don’t know what we’re getting. We’ve read the articles and we’ve been hearing about all this for years. It’s remarkable that such a small group of people can create such a big fuss.
Look at all this support and just get it done. The public support is clearly behind this project.
-
i am FOR the lighthouse. i’m 25 and grew up in elmont NY and was literally conceived as a direct result of the 1983 stanley cup. i live in brooklyn now because 1) there are no jobs on long island, 2) no places to live that aren’t somebody’s basement, and 3) everybody is moving away for the aforementioned reason and more, so why even stick around????? plus if the team moves, the county is more screwed than it ever was. one more thing: the NIMBYs are nothing but selfish leeches, leaving their descendants a wasteland crafted in their lowly image of FAIL.
-
I left LI because there was nothing like this keeping me there. My name is TJ, I live in LA, and I am FOR this project!
-
My name is Mitchell Dittmar. I live in Minot, North Dakota. I am FOR the lighthouse project because I hope to come home to Long Island when my enlistment is over. Without the lighthouse or the islanders its seems unlikely that I would.
-
I am FOR this project!!! I’m from Switzerland and shouldn’t even worry about building the Lighthouse or not. But I do!!! Not only because I’m an Islanders fan, but because of heartbreaking stories like No. 7 who made his first ever comment to help the Lighthouse or No. 8, who has to suffer more than most of us but achieved so much. I read all comments so far… and there are so many stories, people’s stories. So let’s built the Lighthouse for the people!!! VOTE FOR IT:
-
Greg M, Queens native, current resident of North Jersey, and frequent visitor (several times weekly) to Nassau County area for both business and pleasure. FOR the Lighthouse.
My reasons for being in favor of the LHP are multitudinous; it works for SO many reasons for SO many people that have all been discussed at length here and all over where those of us passionate about this issue frequent. But right now, as I type this, it comes down to one thing:
I NEED the Lighthouse Project approved because I need to be shown that the will of the overwhelming majority of the people in this country still means something.
Cronyism, vendettas, greed, special interests, partisan politics solely for the sake of disagreeing with the other guy… enough. The people want this. Make it happen.
-
Michael, Nassau County. I am for this not solely to keep the Islanders here, but because both Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead need a future. The current state of both town and county is sad, and full of pessimism. The youth have nothing to look forward to, nothing to keep them here. The Lighthouse will not solve these problems by itself, but it may very well serve as a catalyst for growth, and it will say to the next generation that the residents of Nassau want the future to be bright and welcoming.
I am for this project.
-
i’am Joern Hannemann far away in Germany and i vote for this Lighthouse Project.
-
Will Curley,
Lived in Farmingdale and Bethpage, ABSOLUTELY FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE! I was priced out of LI with my family and live in Delaware. Would love to come back and this is an opportunity. Of course my favorite team I am die-hard for must stay and continue on with its great legacy.
Will
-
Mike G, Sault Ste. Marie, Canada
Yes, to the lighthouse project.
-
Yes because it will be a groundbreaking change for Long Island, the same way the Robert Moses Parkway was. And it will keep my Isles here!!!
-
Bryan L rockland county. Born and raised in brooklyn. Lived in queens. When I started my family, wanted nassau county but insane property taxes and living costs killed my dream.
I am for the lighthouse. -
I am Joe P. from Lindenhurst, NY.
I am 100% in favor of The Lighthouse Project being approved and built — for the benefit of us as Long Islanders and our New York Islanders.
Just Build it!
-
My name is Werner – currently live in Westminster, MD. Formerly from Glendale, Queens. Been going to games since ’72. Still go to 2 – 3 games per year. Would look to go more often with family and friends should the Arena be improved and the Lighthouse be built. What an eyesore that area is now. I am FOR the Lighthouse project!
-
Bryan L. rockland county. Born and raised in brooklyn lived in queens. Grew up dreaming of a life in Nassau County. When I started my family nassau county priced me out.
For the lighthouse!!! -
Scott from Newburgh NY in Orange County. The article did nothing to change my mind that the Lighthouse projects needs to be built. The key is not the Islanders. The key is bringing in new tax revenue which would help lower property taxes.
-
Peter from Newton, NJ, and I am FOR the Lighthouse. None of the reasons given in opposition override the positives associated with the project. Just Build It!
-
Scott from Garden City, NY….I am totally for the Lighthouse Project
-
No for the Lighthouse in Long Island, as the Islanders will face disadvatages from Nassau County (the landlord) rather than owning a similar development in Brooklyn or Queens.
-
Tim i live in Camada and for obvious reasons i”m in favor of this project i can”t believe that it has gotten to this point but if the islanders leave because the town dragged it’s feet to long then shame on them kids are leaving young adults are leaving and now the islanders might be leaving what a joke come on kate wake-up
-
Jeff W., New Jersey.
Grew up in East Meadow, parents still live there.
I am FOR the Lighthouse project. -
Brian, Port Washington NY
100% for this project -
Absolutely FOR the LHP. Not only am I an Isles season ticket holder, but alos live in nassau County. I am 33 yrs old and my wife and I pay an insane amount of taxes on our property every year. All they want to do is raise our taxes to help with the deficit. Well, if the LHP is passed maybe some of that revenue can help shave some of the burden off homeowners, especially young ones like myself who make a good living and still struggle each month to keep our heads above water. Please build the Lighthouse.
-
My name is Bryan from Hicksville. While I’m a huge Islanders fan, my reasons for supporting the Lighthouse have very little to do with the Islanders. As a 27-year-old husband and father, I want some sign that Nassau County wants to keep its youth here. If the Lighthouse is not approved, it will serve as proof that I’m not wanted and I will take my family to someplace where young talent is appreciated.
-
Biuld the Lighthouse for Long Island and the NY Islanders
-
As a life long Islanders fan(1974)/season ticket holder (2002), and Long Islander (born and rise in Massapequa Park and life and work in Brooklyn, I am for the Lighthouse, The NEW YORK Islanders and Mr. Wang!
The Nassau Veterans Coliseum is one of worst major sporting venue in North America, my college hockey team has a better team facilities (in a rink the same age as the Coliseum) than the Isles.
It’s time to either fix the dump up or allow the Islanders to find another venue that “WANTS” an professional hockey team, regardless of the terms of the lease.
It looks like the TOH would be happier if Isles would just go away, which might happen.
It’s not like Mr. Wang is demanding that the taxpayers build him a new rink!
We Long Islanders need the jobs, the tax revenues and the Islanders: BUILD THE LIGHTHOUSE!
-
Jim from Suffolk County and I am for the LHP. I have been an Islander fan from the 70′s, season ticket holder for over 10 years. I have seen many of my family leave LI because there is nothing to keep them here and I fear the same thing is going to happen to my kids as they graduate college. It is very sad that we spend so much on taxes to educate our kids and then they can not even afford to come back and start a family of their own here on LI. It is time to reverse the drain of our talented educated young people to other parts of this country, and this project can be a start. If the concern is additional traffic in a already congested area why not be forward thinking and add some mass transit to the site, it would help not only this project but everything in the surrounding area including Hofstra.
-
Bryan (Garden City Park)
I vote yes, beyond the NYI. There are only three corporations on LI with jobs. Cannon, 1800 Flowers and CMP. Bookspan used to be a 4th but they have moved most operations to the city. I have to pay over 200 a month to get to work on the railroad plus all the extra time traveling. When I was looking to buy a condo/coop I had to look in Queens because there was nothing on Long Island.
Dont make me leave.
-
My dad and I are both FOR the lighthouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Build it and they will come!!!!!!!!!!
-
From Queens. Would be more convenient for me if the team moved to Queens of Brooklyn. Nevertheless, have to respect tradition.
FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE.
-
My name is EJ, Isles fan since ’75 and currently living in South Florida. I grew up in Connecticut with family in Queens, and had season tickets in 313 from 79-86. We made it up to the draft party/rally this summer, and continue to watch every game on the dish and support the LONG ISLAND ISLANDERS. I will be at the barn for opening night and share a flex pack. BUILD IT, I support the LHP, and Let’s go Islanders!!
CB, your are simply the best! Keep up the fine work..
-
I am for the Lighthouse project. It will be good for Long Island not just the Islanders.
-
Mario Gazzaneo
West Haven, CT
I vote yes!! Even though I love the Coliseum we need something new!!! -
Yes!
-
Jason
Massapequa Park
Just get it done! It’s about time!
200% for the project! -
I’m from Fire Island a liitle island with a real Lighthouse I can see from my house. Ww all need another light house whose light will be cast not only over LI, NY but over the ecomomic heart of Nassau and Suffolk counties and which in turn will bring tourism, industry, jobs, and growth to the whole region.
-
Yea, from huntington. The once fine Uniondale needs now to recapture its glory.
-
John C and I am for the project. comment 41 put perfectly. I have moved from LI to seek opportunities elsewhere fortunately I have been back to work for 6 months the last 2 years. Kate Murray has thrown the level of success of the team right now in our faces, commenting on timelines for winning more stanley cups. What she doesn’t realize is that the team was milburied and what right now would be a cup contender was traded away for nothing. Now kate must realizing she is Milburying Long Island. Kate stop being a part of the problem and be part of the solution. It was pretty obvious reading the article that the GOP has squashed the development at slowed the process at the expense of the future of the most taxed people in the country.
Hey I’ve got an Idea why don’t our leaders do what’s best for the community instead of what’s best for their party. -
Joe, 27 Massapequa Park
I am absolutely FOR the project. The Islanders need this but more importantly LONG ISLAND and NASSAU COUNTY need this. -
I grew up in Massapequa, but I now live in Virginia. I AM FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT. Long Island is our identity. So are the Islanders. We need to lay the groundwork for our future. The Islanders are a very important part of making that happen. The Lighthouse Project is good for Long Island. It must be built. If it is not, Long Island will no longer be special, it will just be another town on the map. Vote for the future. Vote YES for the Lighthouse Project. Remember WE ARE ALL ISLANDERS!!!!
-
John Kingston, Carle Place
I am for the Lighthouse because the future of Nassau County given current trends is disastrous. Young people are leaving; companies don’t even think of coming here; our demographic trends are a train wreck in the making. We compete with suburbs and cities all over the country that “get it,” what needs to be done to make economic growth and a strong future a reality. The developers get it; I get it too. The opponents have nothing except the same old scare tactics. That’s why I support the Lighthouse. Oh, yeah…a hockey team is going to play there that I sort of like.
-
My name is Rene K. and I am FOR the Lighthouse! Just build it!
-
Jake from Lynbrook, it needs to happen, YES I am for the Lighthouse.
-
Paul
East Northport (but I grew up in Hempstead)
Anyone who has witnessed the slow and steady decline of the NCVMC and the surrounding area over the past 2+ decades knows that this project must come to fruition. If it doesn’t the slow steady drift of our youth away from LI will continue unchecked. Just build it already! -
Greg Rivard and I fully support the Lighthouse project. Not because of the Islanders, but because of what the Lighthouse will do for so many residents and future residents of Long Island. I just hope both paties find a way to work together for the good of Long Island and the many of residents that are in need of jobs, better taxes and better way of life.
-
Anthony Dalto
I live in Long Beach, NY and I am FOR the Lighthouse.
-
My name is Dan K. from Merrick NY, I am for the lighthouse project. Islanders Hockey is an obsession but in this economy I am all for anyone bringing jobs here.
-
Absolutely yes
-
I am for it but only if the Isles hire a real front office, and not son in laws with with weak egos.
Also all partners or buyers of parts of the project need to be public.
-
Brian Riley, Rockville Centre.
I am FOR the Lighthouse.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project.
This will be the defining moment on Long Island. It will decide whether, from this point, we go UP, or DOWN.
-
Brian C. Farmingdale, NY.
I am 100% in favor of the lighthouse project. As a Long Islander I have sat around and watched how the Island has grown and prospered around what I consider to be one of the most miserable areas on Long Island (the area in and around Nassau Coliseum). Well, now all of that growth and prosperity has come to a halt. The whole Island is now at a stand still, especially in this economy. What we need is something that can put us on the map again! We need a place that is new, exciting, and technologically advanced. We need a place that the rest of America can look at and say, “wow I wish I had a place like that in my area.” We need something that is going to create thousands of jobs while providing a reason for the Island’s up-and-coming youth to stick around and make their lives here like my father did. We need opportunity…we NEED the lighthouse! -
Ryan Tendrup, Miller Place, I am FOR the lighthouse.
-
Mike Stasiuk from Hicksville and Im obviously FOR the lighthouse
-
Please get this done. I’m 100% for the lighthouse!!!
-
The TOH is just one of many towns on Long Island that in which corruption runs rampant. The hubrus that Mrs. Murray operates with is truly astounding.
For the future of Long Island … and the future of the N.Y. Islanders (our only major sports franchise) I vote YES … 1,000 times yes.
-
My name is Alex and I’m PRO Lighthouse. I live in Brooklyn and I would love to move to Nassau sometime in a future and this future depends on Lighthouse. Go Islanders…
-
from wantagh – yea
Would prefer a scaled down version. Traffic and parking will be a nightmare. Resources (water, sewage etc) are approaching the point of being strained. In the end tho, this has too many benefits. -
Al R. – raised in Massapequa, living in Princeton, NJ
I am for the Lighthouse – see you all at the opener on Oct 3
-
I am only in favor of a scaled down project that has more traffic improvements than a wider Parkway exit ramp that is currently being proposed. But as it stands as a project now, I am against it, it is a shame how CW is using all islander fans to get this done.
-
Ron B., Lynbrook, FOR.
I’m not one to look a multi-million dollar gift horse in the mouth.
-
Julie O., from Bethpage, NY, 100% FOR the Lighthouse.
-
I am for the lighthouse, Isles need a 21st century home.
-
Born in Port Jeff, grew up in Centereach and worked for years at Grumman. Its a shame that politics and egos would jeopardize the future of the Island and the future of a team that has meant so much to so many people. I say yes, stop squabbling and get it done.
-
I am for the Light House and so is the rest of my family. Williston Park, NY
-
Larry L, raised in Jericho, live in Great Neck, and work across the street from the Coliseum in RXR Plaza. I am for the Lighthouse Project. From my perspective, the only reason the Town Board appears to be against the Lighthouse is that it will make County Exec Suozzi and the County democrats look good. Indeed, the recent revelation in Newsday that Al D’Amato is against the project because Mr. Wang refused to use D’Amato’s brother as a lawyer or lobbyist should anger every independent and fair-minded voter in Nassau County regardless of party affiliation. The connection between Town Attorney Joe Ra and the Westchester based environmental consulting firm used on the project by the Town is no less outrageous. I may not be able to vote in the upcoming Town elections because I am a Town of North Hempstead resident, but know this: If this project falls through due to the opposition of D’Amato and the Town of Hempstead, neither I nor any member of my family will ever vote for a republican candidate in any local or county election again. And I am quite sure that there are other voters in Nassau County who feel the same way. I would imagine that any member of the Town Board who had political aspirations beyond the Town of Hempstead would encounter voters like myself with long memories. My final plea to the Town is to do the right thing and approve this project. You can even share some of the credit with Suozzi, but get this done.
-
David Schneider
Springs, NYI am FOR the Lighthouse. It’ll create jobs and keep the Islanders where they belong – what more can I say?
-
Steve L, White Plains, NY. Yes, for the Lighthouse.
-
i’m in. eric from carle place.
-
Mike K from Brightwaters, NY. No brainer here: Pass it! 100% in favor of the project and even though the area in Nassau won’t directly affect my living space, it will keep the Isles here for decades to come and keep Long Island on the map. The days of added strip malls could be over for Nassau. No reason that politics should outweigh citizen demands. Majority rules and it has been apparent that most Long Islanders want this.
-
Scott Gurtman from Great Neck and I completely support the project. Nassau Coliseum and the surrounding area is an embarrassment to the Town of Hempstead and Nassau. I never understood the ruining suburbia argument since the Coliseum is not exactly surrounded by waterfalls and prairies as it is now. Long island needs a destination other than strip malls.
-
I am for the project. I have seen what they did in Dallas via the Victory Project and watched how that went from sand to a striving community with great entertainment options. We can do the same here!
-
Eric from West Hempstead . I am for the project . Save the Islanders , Save my future on Long Island as a soon to be college graduate
-
Geoff from Garden City South. Obviously a ToH resident (also obviously voting down the line for “Democrat in Nov.) and I’m for the Lighthouse 100%.
-
Sue from Eastern LI. I am for the project.
-
Dan S. East Northport NY
I’m FOR the Lighthouse. As a 28 year old professional living and working on Long Island, I feel like a project like this gives me hope that Long Island is looking for more affordable housing. It’s very hard to imagine owning a home on Long Island without anyone’s help.
-
I’m for this project
-
Tom from Garden City. It’s time we do this. It’s not an Islander issue, it’s a Long Island issue. Build the Lighthouse.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse. Build it and they will come. Keep the Isles here. TOH this project has been being presented and worked on for 3 years. Stop dragging your feet and respect Mr Wang and Mr Rechler and there mission to better Long Island. If this will create jobs and additional revenue to a broke county then I am all for it. As well as redesigning that dump the Isles have to play in.
-
I’m for this project – for the sake of Long Island’s legacy, get it done TOH.
-
Bob from North Merrick votes 100% YES for the LH project. I also have come to the conclusion that I will never vote Republican again based on this fiasco and the obvious corruption at the TOH . The D’Amato connection in today’s Newsday was the clincher for me. Our town board gave D’Amato a variance to build a giant house in Lido Beach several years ago that completely over shadowed all the homes in the area. The board apparently has had no problem in changing the suburban landscape for certain people.
-
I am originally from Old Westbury, stationed in San Diego, am currently deployed in Iraq, but still support The Lighthouse and the New York Islanders.
J.K.
LT MC USN -
Reed from Suffolk County. I am FOR the Lighthouse. If the Islanders go, a big part of Long Island goes, a big part of me goes.
-
Gregory Halbart from Huntington, FOR the lighthouse.

Brian Gressler
Massapequa, NYYEA!
-
Nassau County resident. I am 100% in favor of the Lighthouse. I will be heartbroken if the Isles move away from Long Island. I wish I lived in TOH so I could vote against Kate Murray.
-
Livedon LI for 30 years (Levittown). Now
i’m in Florida. I am and always be a diehard Isles fan aswell as a fan of Long Island. It’s still home to me. As we all
know that the current site looks like a wasteland. It will be worse with nobody there. The TOH needs to stop the stalling
and get this going. This would be huge for
everyone involved. Steve, all be it from Florida, says YES. -
Michael Blizzard from Oakdale NY
I am in favor of the lighthouse. For its economic growth, for having a premier destination to bring my family, and because I have been an Islander diehard since the glory years. The New York Islanders are Long Islands team. They have a rich history and form an identity for our wonderful island.
-
I have been an Islander Fan since 1973. Went to many games at the NVMC for the Islanders and Nets. Originaly from the Bronx and now leaving in Va. I try to go to at least five home games a year. My name is Bill O and I am Islander Fan and I vote Yes for the project.
-
my name is robert.i live in nassau county.and hell yea i support the lighthouse project
-
I am in here in Scotland and I fully support the Lighthouse and everything that comes with it. I used to live in Philly before I came here and I made the 2 hour drive numerous times a season to see my fav. team of all time. The thought of them leaving LI is so depressing. My wife and I already have plans for my 50th to come back to LI to see the Lighthouse in all of its glory and of course to see the Isles kick a$$ again. So yes I favor the Lighthouse so please please JUST BUILD IT ALREADY.
-
I`m Paul from eastern sulfolk and I`m for the lighthouse.I come to nassau county to go to the Islanders games. I spend money on parking and consesions and after the game I come home. After the cost of a ticket not one penny that I spend benefits Nassau County. Now if there was a Lighthouse I could come to games early, browse stores eat lunch and spend money that would benefit Nassau.
-
Ken Sullivan from Massapequa I am 1000% for the Lighthouse Project. I would like my kids to stay on Long Island, JOBS,JOBS,JOBS, & this gives me hope plus them a chance. Let’s keep the Islanders here. They represent us & are a part of our Long Island family. Their history & willingness to help out in the community are great. Don’t look back, Forever Forward, Onward & Upward.
-
I am for a renovated Coliseum but not for the “City” Charles wants to build. The traffic is going to be insane around it. Most of the questions that were asked at the meeting last Tuesday was mostly “I don’t know and not sure”. The biggest dissapoint with the whole project is not building a light rail going from a LIRR station to the Coliseum.
-
I completely support the Lighthouse Project. Jobs, tax revenue and growth are just a few of the reasons why this project is essential for the future of nassau county and the town of hempstead.
Peter from Rockvile Centre
PRO LIGHTHOUSE!!!!! -
I am Thomas Smith from Lindenhurst, NY and I am 110% for the Lighthouse project.
-
YES!
Keith Graham
Medford NY
I am 100% for this project. Think about it the Lighthouse would replace a parking lot. How many jobs does a parking lot create? This is what Long Island needs! -
John Daly , Seaford. I am 100% for the lighthouse. Long Island needs more affordable housing and jobs. What is the incentive for people to stay on LI right now? For me personally the only thing keeping me here is family and the Islanders.
-
I am FOR the lighthouse. It’s absurd to me that this is even being debated. What are the negatives? Too much traffic on gamedays? Please. Ask the Yankees or Red Sox or Green Bay Packers if they were about traffic on gamedays. LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!
-
I am FOR the lighthouse. It’s absurd to me that this is even being debated. What are the negatives? Too much traffic on gamedays? Please. Ask the Yankees or Red Sox or Green Bay Packers if they worry about traffic on gamedays. LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project because of what it will eventually mean to Long Island’s economy, the immediate and long term jobs it creates and yes, of course, to keep our beloved New York Islanders – the dynasty Stanley Cup champions from 80-83.
-
nassau county resident, living in east meadow… i am 100% in favor, YES!! let’s move into the 21st century already.

I vote “YAY”, for the LHP…

Andrew, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, now living in Old Bridge, NJ… I am FOR the Lighthouse Project
-
John (Jackson, NJ – Former NYer & student in Nassau Cty) Islander fan since 1977ish.
I can never claim to know what it’s like to be a resident of the TOH … however I’ve experienced plenty of times most of my life the ups and downs of what Long Islanders go through during their daily lives. So I can relate.
1- Traffic: To me this has to be ONE major concern that not only Long Islanders concern themselves with … but most everyone in the NYC metro area. However, that is a sacrifice we make to live within proximity to the greatest city in the world… I’ve been traveling to Long Island since living in Brooklyn as a baby in the late 60s. I’ve probably accumulated years of my life sitting in traffic in NYC, LI and NJ.
I think as a whole this region needs to rethink its traffic control systems. You should never have to wait at the same traffic light 3 times before making it through an intersection.
I think the LHP is a great opportunity to FIX AN EXISTING TRAFFIC PROBLEM. I know the Hempstead TPK and Meadowbrook Pky well. I’ve seen them many of times crawling along at 5mph … not always for an Islander game. That traffic problem doesn’t get fixed without the LHP.
2- I think the LHP is a catalyst for Smart Development … a chance at a re-do .. to develop correctly. Forget about the concerns of the LHP eroding at the quarter acre suburban home quality of life. If anything the concentration of residences in one area helps preserve that by semi-urbanizing a small 150 acre parcel to preserve the 100 thousand and more suburban parcels that will thrive under more managable property tax rates and jobs.
3- Small Business – Small business is the life blood of this country. They employ more people then the gov’t and large businesses combined. A 10 year construction project will turn the Hempstead TPK corridor into a goldmine .. and the risidual effect of additional commerce in the area will thrive for years thereafter.
TOH has to approve the LHP and LI’ers needs to hold the developers accountable to their promises.
-
Mike L (26) – Former resident from Floral Park, now living in Yardley, PA.
I am 100% for the LH Project. Long Island needs change, this is a no-brainer!
-
Andrew from Bethpage…. I am FOR the LH as it is currently constituted.
-
Pat devlin Ridgefield Ct
I am for the lighthouse because LI needs a project to help create jobs and to keep their one major sports team and get a minor league baseball team -
MY NAME IS JIMMY B AND I AM 100% for the lighthouse project
-
I am Mark from Plainview, and I am totally, completely, 100% in favor of the Lighthouse.
-
An absolute Yes for the Lighthouse. It’s time for change on Long Island. Time for hope, a new begining. Thousands of jobs, more tax revenue and the permanent home of the ISLANDERS. My hope and dream is to one day stand in celebration plaza celebrating a Stanley Cup victory.
-
I’m Patrick and I’m FOR the LIGHTHOUSE. Born and raised on Long Island and now live in NYC. One of the few reasons I go back to the Island is to see a game. The Islanders will always hold a special place in my life and it saddens me that the Coliseum has fallen to its current state. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that one of the greatest teams in all of sports did it on LI, not NYC but LI. The Islanders are the ONLY Long Island team and we should treat the history and future with the respect it deserves.
-
My name I Gary W. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens, and a LIFE LONG Islanders Fan now living in Central Florida.
I vote YES for the Lighthouse Project. TOH PLEASE do not make the mistakes that drove me south to where my Company and I could make a decent living. Think of the jobs you’ll be creating in a difficult climate both short and long term, and the revenues you can raise for your residents. Give people like me a REASON to return to the island.
-
John. 15 years in Brooklyn, 15 years in Baldwin, 14 years in VA. Islander fan since 1975. First game was vs the Habs and Lafluer…Love (with hockey that is) at first sight!
I’m all for developing that parcel of land. I’m all for Charles Wang creating a viable community, and commercial center in the heart of Nassau Coounty.
What I’m against is the Islanders being chained to that development.
There are employees of the organization and fans of same that are being USED to advance a completely seperate entity, with no regard to the team.
If the LH fails, it’s almost assured that the Islanders as a NY franchise will fail. If the LH succeeds the only way to keep the Isles afloat will be as a tenant of the LH.
They have a chance to get out. LET THEM OUT. They can be the Mets or the Jets in NY City, or a different venue. They will be held captive in a (and I love the NVMC as much as the next fan) failing business model for 25-30 more years if they don’t get out now.
Let Nassau/TOH/Wang develop the land without a coliseum and any sports franchise. Let the Isles either move with the Nets, or the Mets and flourish on their own. -
I am Lenny K. from Brooklyn-I vote YES.
-
Vote YES for the Lighthouse Project and keeping Suozzi in office….. For those of you who live in the TOH, vote NO for Murray & Co. in November’s election.
-
Marc D, from Troy, NY, and I am FOR the LHP. I may live the better part of 4 hrs from NVMC, but I’m like Dan (113) – with the Isles, I spend a LOT of money in the TOH every year. For this upcoming season, I’ve already got tickets to come down for 3 games, and I’m working on another. That’s not just 8 game tickets (for me & wife), but that’s also 4 occasions for hotel stays, restaurant visits, etc. Without the Isles, I save a lot of money that I’m practically begging to give to the TOH.
But this is about so much more than the Isles. Given how this is being handled, I’m almost embarrassed to say I work in politics. The TOH treatment of the LHP sure looks a lot like the worst that politics can bring out. I know that my job here would be a lot easier if we had a project like the LHP that wanted to be built in our area.
The comment in 125 said it perfectly: “I NEED the Lighthouse Project approved because I need to be shown that the will of the overwhelming majority of the people in this country still means something.
Cronyism, vendettas, greed, special interests, partisan politics solely for the sake of disagreeing with the other guy… enough. The people want this. Make it happen.”

I am Nicole and I am from NJ. I am FOR the Lighthouse Project!!
-
Absolutely 1000% FOR the LHP. We need the jobs and the Islanders! This will help secure Long Island’s future for generations to come. Without this project the future will be bleak. I implore you to pass this ASAP for the future of Long Island!

david from massapequa and im %100 for the lighthouse

Rob D. Huntington NY – Life long Long Islander – and I Vote YES for the lighthouse project

i am 1000% for this project

Jonathan Gelman, Hoboken, NJ.
I am for this project. This is a gift dropped into the lap of Long Island at a time of recession and high unemployment. The benefits don’t need to be repeated. Full disclosure, I am an Islander fan and not a Long Island resident. I grew up in Westchester. I have family in Long Island. Upon graduating college I looked for jobs and living accommodations in Westchester, NYC, and Jersey. I ended up in Jersey, not because of roots or family, but because it had jobs and was a nice destination for someone in their 20′s. I never even once considered Long Island because it’s a place for youth to flee. Lighthouse would go a big way in changing that, both in perception and reality.
-
Jerry Walsh from Bayport is for the Lighthouse Project. No Lighthouse means a few years of an empty parking lot until the lease runs out and then more strip malls – Nassau County’s idea of smart development.
-
My name is Craig from Rockville Centre, NY and I support the Lighthouse Project.
-
Darren from Wantagh, YES!!!
-
Don from Northport-
The million positives outwiegh the very few negatives. Get off your butts, TOH, and GET IT DONE!
-
Cari from Garden City. 100% FOR the Lighthouse.
I am a student, and I most certainly see the Lighthouse as the future for my peers and I. It will create jobs and homes, and transform the Coliseum and its surrounding area, which, let’s face it, isn’t very nice looking. I may hate my town, but I love Long Island, and the Lighthouse will help it in ways unimaginable.
-
Levittown resident for the project….BUILD IT ALREADY!!!!
-
Eric L. from Greenlawn and life long Long Islander for 30 years. I approve the Lighthouse. This is not only about the Islanders but the survival of Long Island. Just Build It! We can not let the ToH stop this.

FOR the Project! -
I am Blake R., Wantagh resident and registered voter (although I currently spend most of my time in Boston or DC), and I support the Lighthouse Project 100%.
I’m an ex-lawyer who has worked on the permitting of other regional developments (Broadwater) and currently work in international sustainable development policy. The benefits to this project are so many, and of such a scale, that turning it down would be missing a tremendous opportunity. As developers in Newsday pointed out, it would also send the wrong message to businesses and developers that they should stay clear of Hempstead, Nassau, and LI to avoid a costly political battle. For those that have lived in comparable middle-class areas (Boston, NJ, Chicago, California), LI does not provide for the infrastructure for so many high-paying industries. Furthermore, Murray’s characterization that she’s “the judge” of the project shows that she fundamentally misunderstands TOH’s role in the process. I’m embarrassed to have her representing me, knowing she doesn’t quite understand what the public’s interests are. And lastly, in an area with limited resources and land, mixed-use projects are what are necessary for 21st Century growth–from positions of sustainability and efficiency, to say nothing of labor and profitability, this is what we should be doing. If there are deficiencies in amounts of water, sewage, traffic abatement, or parking, the developers must be actively engaged to fix the problem, as there are solutions. So, go Isles and go Lighthouse!
-
I live in Seaford for 48 years!! I am 100% for the Lighthouse. We need the jobs for the economy!! I will also be voting in November and Kate will not get my vote even if the Lighthouse is approved!! Town of Hempstead is the most politically corrupt township in the country!! Lets Go Islanders!!
-
I am FOR this project. I gre up in Suffolk County, went to a private HS in Uniondale, and currently live in Far Rockaway.
-
Rich Greer, Bayport NY
I am for it! Build it! -
Mark from Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada. I know my vote doesn’t count for much. I obviously am not affected as much one way or another by the development other than the possibility of the Islander moving. However, I vote yes mainly because I haven’t heard a marginally good reason not to build it and I would like to see the Islander stay on Long Island!
-
Manhattan now (grew up in Dix Hills).
100% FOR IT -
sarah williams, west hempstead, for the lighthouse.
-
Will, North Babylon. For it!
-
Tim C (East Northport, NY) Absolutely in favor of the Lighthouse project. Even though I’m an Isle fan that has been going to NVMC since the first season, the Islanders aren’t my primary reason for supporting this project. I believe the LI economy needs direction and the same old approach to driving economic growth just isn’t working. The LH Project is smart in so many ways, but has come up against the old time politics that continue to keep LI’s growth engine in neutral. People need to accept that (owner financed) smart growth initiatives aren’t going to come along everyday and turning this project down will actually shift this economy into reverse. I am pissed that rank amateurs, on a strictly local level, are making such important decisions for the entire region.

I’m for the lighthouse.I’m a younger fan here. I want the islanders to stay.I want long island to have a new face and I feel that is what the lighthouse will be. I want to have a family one day and be ablebto take my kid to an isles game and as the isles are rebuilding so should place around it. Please. Don’t ruin this. -
I am for the Lighthouse. I am from Levittown and this project needs to get done.
-
Joe D. from Great River, NY
FOR the Lighthouse.Islanders fan since 1979, cannot fathom that the developers, Town, County & key local community leaders are not working together to expeditiously identify & resolve issues/disputes on such a huge opportuniity. This is very much a postscript to the Levittown story, with a new set of forces & challenges coming together to define the next phase of suburbia.
Would be great if the Lighthouse project included development of non-partisan organizations dedicated to study / innovation around problems faced by suburban areas that are core to this project, working with existing LI resources where we already have leadership (e.g., Dowling for transportation).
How about housing options specifically tailored to the needs of new Hofstra/LIJ medical school students & staff…. Probably lots of other interesting opportunities with LI businesses, creating a “hub” with coordinated transportation for young workers / new LI residents, with our companies pulling the best & brightest from other boroughs as well as out of state.

Tony, Hicksville: FOR

Chris, home in massapequa, own business in lynbrook – I am FOR the lighthouse. There simply will never be another opportunity to have largely PRIVATE funding do so much to help those who live and work on Long Island.

Mike Tringa, Fort Myers FL.
I am for the LP. BUT, I would choose for it to be in Suffolk, Queens or even Brooklyn because Nassau County and the ToH have allowed, for over a decade, the Islanders to be strangled out of competition in the NHL by SMG and the lease on the land where NVMC stands. Though I was born in Nassau (Mineola), I think it is an evil entity run by dirty money and dirty politicians. I’d much rather see my beloved Islanders out of Nassau but remain on Long Island forever.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse. I am from Center Moriches. I am a lifelong Islanders fan, but more importantly would love to see that area developed instead of a vacant parking lot. People need jobs, Long Island needs a “point of interest”, and Long Island needs the Islanders. I am 24 years old, and at a point in my life where I can either choose to stay on LI, or move off the island. The only thing keeping me on this island is the Islanders and this hope of a place my kids can “go to” when it’s all said and done. How cool would it be to say “Hey son, i took a stand, rallied, and watched the Lighthouse get built, no here we are.” Lets get this DONE and let Long Island grow. The only naysayers I’ve listened to are citizens older then 75 years of age citing mostly traffic issues. What difference with their opinion matter 25 years down the road when they are gone (not meant to be morbid)? The future is NOW!
-
Mike C., 30 yrs old. Born and Raised in Bethpage, Current resident of Manhattan.
FOR the LH Project!!
As a NYC renter, I one day hope to move back to Nassau County and I beleive this project can provide the stimulus LI needs. Smart growth is where we need to go as the old suburban model is dead. We need to have walkable communities where residents do not need to drive their car 10 minutes to pick up their dry cleaning. Wang and Suozzi are forward thinking and I commend them for their patience. I hope the TOH comes to their senses or else the empty NVMC and its parking lot will remain a barren wasteland for generations to come. -
Fred from Baldwin. Fan since 1972. For the Lighthouse!! KM must go!! It’s time to do what is in the best interest of ALL Long Islanders, not just the pansies in Garden City. God Bless the Islanders!!
-
Harrison -O-H
Yes- For Tavares
-
Hilda From Hicksville. I SUPPORT The Lighthouse.
-
Rob from Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Its not in my backyard, but the project looks to be great for the community, economy, and for the Isles themselves. A well deserved shot of confidence for everyone involved.
-
Nick Pezzotti, Farmingdale I SUPPORT the Lighthouse. The Islanders mean more to me than anything, i recently got a tattoo with the outline of long island and the word believe in it GET IT DONE!
-
Dan From Massapeqau and I am for the LHP
-
My name is Lance
The Islanders play in a facility that for a long time has been insufficient for financial competition with their NHL brethren. Additionally, in these tough economic times a project like this is vital to boosting the Long Island economy through job creation. I am FOR the Lighthouse project.
-
I’m Andy Facini from Boston, MA and I’m FOR building a new home for the Islanders… The LH project is nice BUT if it will sink the entire Coliseum renovation and Isles future on the Island, forget it.
-
From Westchester County: I am FOR the Lighhouse Project
-
Marty Timlin
Levittown, NY
I am 100% for the Ligthouse -
Vinny from Oceanside. I SUPPORT the Lighthouse Project, it makes so much sense to build it and bring millions of Jobs to Long Island and also keep the Isles on the ISLAND where they belong. Wake up Kate murray and toh board. BUILD IT NOW!!
-
It is unfortunate that I can only have this one vote. Yes, yes a thousand times yes I am FOR the LIGHTHOUSE!!!!!! This team doesn’t belong anywhere else and TOH need to get rid of this “but we’re the suburbs” mentality and get into the 21st century. Yes I am touting the Islanders but it’s not just about the team, Long Island needs this. TOH needs this!
-
Peter Marmann

Carl from Huntington, Yes — for all of Long Island.
-
Jenna Pezzotti from Farmingdale I SUPPORT the Lighthouse. Where else can i go with my brother that i know hes actually having a good time.
-
Thomas Mancusi, 35
Bay Park, NY
I am for this project. Too many friends from high school have left the area. Too much money for a house and now, not that many great jobs. Nassau County needs a destination spot for families and affordable housing for the young proffesional who could enjoy the Lighthouse area. -
Jenna Pezzotti from Farmingdale. I SUPPORT the Lighthouse. were else can i go with my brother and know he is actually having a good time . And also the lighthouse would make so many more jobs for people and the islanders cant leave long island its juss would not workout.
-
For the Lighthouse. It is a must for the town and county if we want to survive in this century.
-
Looks like Wang needed to kiss D’Amato’s backside and he refused- but that’s how politics work around here. Anyway, still hope the Lighthouse project gets done.
Mark F.
Woodbury, LI
Long Islander for 40+ years and Islanders fan since 1979. -
I am Dan from Nova Scotia. 34 years a hardcore Islanders fan. It seems to be a no-brainer to vote yes for this project. How could anybody reject the obvious economic impact of such a project, short-term and long-term. I will visit Long Island soon, but not if the Islanders are in KC.
-
Amanda, Farmingdale. I support the lighthouse, being i know i young man who might go crazy if it is not built. Go Izles
-
Bill from Holbrook and I am DEFINITELY FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT.
-
Neal, 21
Massapequa, NY
I support the Lighthouse project! -
I am Seth Cohen, formerly of Dix Hills, now living in NJ because Long Island didn’t afford me any career opportunities.
I am for the Lighthouse. It is time!!
-
Craig – Yea!!! – Central Islip.
The Lighthouse Project makes sense on so many levels. Jobs, new residences, a centralised area for multiple use facilities/business, keeping the Islanders “HOME”, pride, modernization. It will bring Nassau and specifically Uniondale/Hempstead into the 21st Century. It’s not just for us… it’s for the generation behind us too. Build it!!! Don’t leave them with an empty parking lot.
-
FOR! big construction project when people are looking for jobs, privately financed. replacing a building desperately needing refurbishing. adds tax revenue to a school district that needs the money. transit plans cleared by local and state DOTs.
-
Peter Mpantas, Franklin Square, 100% for the Lighthouse Project. Not just because I need the Islanders to stay here on long island but, it would create so many jobs and really help to buffer this devastating recession.
-
Rick, 32, Long Beach (by way of Levittown)
Yes on the lighthouse – not only for our team, but for us! Too many LI’ers out of work who would jump at the chance to work on this project!
-
Joe Lazar, Long Island. FOR the lighthouse!
-
Big fan of the team since they were born. I live in East Meadow and work in Carle place so the project is in my backyard and I am very much in favor. Thank you Mr. Wang for your patience. Lets get some shovels in the ground and put people to work. The TOH Board should be ashamed of themselves. Go Lighthouse lets get this project going instead of just talking in circles, enough already
-
My name is Tim from Levittown and I am 100% for the Lighthouse and have been from the start. Mainly for the development of the area which is not suburbia(how does 150 acres of ashphalt not affect our community.
-
Neil S.
Formerly of Wantagh now Islip,
Just build it!!
Without this project, the Island will turn into other parts of the country.
Long Island needs jobs. Gone is most of JP Morgan Chase on the Long Island, American Home Mortgage, Delta Funding, and the list goes on. !!! Remember that TOH Board!!
-
Jim from Levittown, 100% for the lighthouse, not only from a hockey standpoint, but economically as well. Long Island is drowning, the Lighthouse Project is that economic spark that we need.
-
Mike L from Albertson
FOR the Lighthouse.
Save the Isles. Save LI -
Hilda from Hicksville.
I support The Lighthouse project as it would produce a great deal of jobs and revenue for Long Island which is greatly needed in today’s economy.
If this project isn’t passed this will become a huge empty parking lot left to decay, and frequented by kids and drugs.
I also enjoy going to the Islander games with my grand-children. -
35 years in Town of Hempstead. I am a union member and a voter and I am FOR this project. Town of Hempstead is making themselves look ridiculous. This isn’t a varience for a shed (their usual task) this is BIG and we need it. The leadership of TOH has made it clear to all of Long Island how unqualified and small they really are. If I were Mr. Wang I would have walked out long ago.
-
James M.
Huntington, NY
I vote, without any doubt, FOR the Lighthouse Project. In my 15 year old brothers words, “If Wang is gonna pay for it all then why wouldn’t they just let them build it?” Makes sense to me…
-
Of-course I am for it. It only makes sense. There is too much Fear of change in human nature, but the Town of Hempstead has taken the perils of Fear to another level. Granted I am an Engineer and by nature see Progress in Society as buidling, but still the message this says if we don’t be proactive on Long Island would speak Volumes. I mean that the Air Train is pretty much the only thing built in the past 30 years is pretty scary. And the Air Train turned out to be great. This is the last chance for that Area, and symbolically could be for Nassau as well.
-
Matt from Garden City. I vote FOR the Lighthouse.
-
For the Lighthouse.
Infrastructure, jobs, growth, keeping the isles where they belong.
Heres hoping my kids can enjoy isles games the way I have.
-
For the lighthouse, keep the Islanders where they belong. Try listening to the people that vote you in Kate.
-
Yay for the Lighthouse. Wang and Rechler have been thorough and have come up with a mixed use plan that will best serve the area for decades to come.
-
I am 100% in favor of the project!
Hopefully, there will be some nice parkland on the site as well, so I can take romantic walks with the significant other(s)!
Just noone tell my wife! -
Joe from Bridgewater, NJ; formerly of Cedarhurst, Long Island. I moved to NJ because of better job prospects and growth; I am FOR the Lighthouse — This is exactly the type of forward-thinking project that will keep me, and young professionals like me, from leaving Long Island due to better job prospects elsewhere.
-
Kate, I was at the hearing last week and saw very little opposition and a lot of support for this project. There is too much risk for not getting this done. SAY YES TO THE LIGHTHOUSE!!!
-
John Keitz – Fallon, NV -YES! Just build it! The reason? Me. I grew up in Manhasset, tried to make a go of it on Long Island, and left for better economic conditions and opportunities in Nevada in 1995. If you want to stop more young people from doing the same, then build the Lighthouse. And if you can’t get that done, I strongly recommend all the readers of PB to come here! It’s great livingM we don’t lock our doors, and no income or business tax (and really low property tax)!
If LI wants to compete with that, you’d better get that Lighthouse up and running!
-
Seth
Plainview, NYi am most definitely FOR The Lighthouse Project!
-
Mike Gabriele, Richmond Virginia. I’m FOR the LHP. If TOH doesn’t give approval to this project, it will send a message to corporations that the Island doesn’t want to invest in the future. If Long Island doesn’t bring in new business the younger generation will continue to move to other parts of the country.
-
My name is Sean I have lived in TOH all my life and I am FOR the Lighthouse project.
-
Richie from Merrick, NY.
Please build the Lighthouse. The people of Long Island would love to have a new arena that we can go to for hockey games, concerts, etc.
The people of New Jersey were able to get one, so I only have one word to say: Please!
-
Chris B.
Farmingdale, NYI vote yes to the lighthouse project.
-
Rob C currently living in Lake Grove, LI…I vote “YES” for the Lighthouse Prject.
-
Barry from Melville. Absolutely for the lighthouse. Enough with this political foolishness. Look at what’s built on the location now. Think about what would occur at the location if the development does not occur. Sure you have to cross the ts and dot the is, but the town should be doing back flips to help the Lighthouse along. The crazy thing is that once the development is complete, the town supervisor and board will be credited as being visionaries….unbelievable.
-
I’m Sean from Long Beach in Nassau County. I’m for this project for many reasons including keeping the Isles in Long Island.
-
yes for lighthouse . We all push for TOH to be voted out if not approved soon. Dave from East Northport
-
Alex Goldfinger
Massapequa,NYI am for the Lighthouse Projoect.
I am 22 years old and I hope to get married and stary a family on Long Island. The Lighthouse would make that decision a much easier one.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse and not only because of the Islanders. Mr Wang is willing to do what no one else has stepped up to do. My question to the TOH board, “If not the Lighthouse, what will happen to the property”?. Nassau will continue to erode.
George P (25+ year TOH resident) -
I live in Oyster Bay. The place is an eye-sore and more and more resembles a crumbled archaeological site of what was once a great dynasty. What will it be in 5 years if nothing is done? I’m for it. I go to games. Build it. Get the train to go there too. Do this thing the right way all the way through and make it the best arena in the NHL.
-
My name is Alan Goldberg. I am from Woodmere, New York. I speak for my entire family when I say that we are FOR the Lighthouse!
-
Justin
Woodmere, NYI am for the Lighthouse Project.
I have been a resident of Long Island all my life and as my wife, child and myself have come to realize, it is almost impossible to afford Long Island anymore. We are on the verge of moving out of state. I will miss Long Island and of course my Islanders but with property taxes this high we have reached our breaking point. Please approve this project!
-
E. T. Finchum, Town of Hempstead Property Owner, Investor. Build it now, give our kids some hope for their futures. Vote YES. Speaking for the dozens of people I know, who dont read this site and would not voice their own opinion here, I cast votes FOR the LIGHTHOUSE!
-
Donna
Massapequa Park NY
I am 100% for the Lighthouse project. once my kids are done with high school I’m heading back to apartment/co op living, would love an option like the lighthouse housing, otherwise will run, not walk back to Manhattan. -
Roslyn, NY
I am 100% for the lighthouse project. This project will stimulate the long island economy as well as keeping our favorite team here. Build it! -
I SUPPORT the Lighthouse.
The scale of the project may need to be reduced somewhat in scale, but the time has come for major change for the team and Long Island.
Just build it!
-
Tom from Seaford…. My wife and I, who vote in every election, are 100% in favor of the lighthouse. As is, no negotiations, no pandering!
-
I’m from Garden City, and like Nike says… Just Do It! YES! BUILD!
-
Bob
Sayville, NY
I was a TOH resident for the first 34 years of my life, then moved to Suffolk. Save the Islanders, make use of a way underutilized piece of land. Give us hope. -
StevieL Sayville, NY. Build It!!!Not only for the Isles but to save LI from the Blight wasteland it is becoming. The litter and neglect of LI’s beautiful parkways, the closed pavilions never to re-open at Jones Beach, the rundown park systems, the empty rotting buildings at Pilgrim and Kings Park hospitals. The wasted empty land at Cirro wire. The long gone drive-in movie theaters. The corruption and wasted Tax dollars of LI politics. The sese of Community , neighborhood and pride that was Long Island. The strangling property taxes that kill our economy and our future! I could go on forever. The tide needs to change. Visionaries have to be allowed to make LI beautiful again while creating jobs, reducing taxes and creating places for people to come together to enjoy our once beautiful Island. It starts with the Lighthouse!
-
Sean from lynbrook.
I am for the lighthouse. -
Dominic D from Ocenaside! You betcha ur ass I AM FOR this project! No brainer TOH!! I am 34 yrs old…please let my two young daughters be able to experience the same tradition I have for the last 30 yrs!
The tradition and pride of New York Islander Hockey and give them what will be an economic jump start for the Long Island. This project should have been complete by now! -
Nick from Framingdale, Long island, and when i was just 10 years old i went to see my first islanders game without even knowing what hockey was, it was the best game ever to me even though they lost to the Oilers. The next day i began playin hockey and i havent stopped for 10 years and now im one of the best goaltenders on Long Island, thanks to the Islanders, if the islanders werent around i would have never played hockey, my life long love.
-
Bob from Holtsville. I can’t believe we’re still debating this issue. Of course I’m in favor of the Lighthouse Project. It should have been started years ago.
-
100% for it
but i think its obvious that the republicans in the town of hempstead want to kill it it
and i think they will -
Jordan R, from Wantagh, NY
I vote yes for the lighthouse project, the TOH seems incapable of making any decisions bigger than slapping Kate Murray’s name on garbage trucks, prove me wrong. A guy who wants to finance the just about the whole project himself and wants to make the stadium not a laughing stock anymore, and you are against this TOH? I’ve been waiting through thin years of bad owners and Milbury decisions, just when theres hope for at least a long term turn around the board decides to remind us why LI is losing businesses and college grads, too much red tape!!!! Now to apply to another job in new jersey.
-
Juho Kämäri, Parola, Finland
Cheers from a Finnish Islanders fan.
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project! -
In seems almost silly that the TOH politicians still need to be told that the People want this. I want this and Long Island NEEDS it. I live out on eastern LI and have been going to approx 20 games per year for the last 15 years. Get this done and stop all the politcal BS
-
Pete R. – Brooklyn, NY – FOR this project
-
I am for the Lighthouse project!!!
-
Colleen from Baldwin, NY.
I am FOR the lighthouse. Every island needs a lighthouse. The project is good not only for the Islanders but for Long Island as well. It will create jobs and housing and bring in money. Also, it would be a tragedy if the Islanders were to leave long island. They have rich history here.
Just build it!
-
I am formerly from the Town of North Hempstead, now residing in Manhattan. I am a 100% advocate for the Lighthouse project. Long Island deserves the renewed spirit, energy, enthusiasm and excitement that it will bring. The Islanders deserve a state of the art playing facility. And all of us deserve the many thousands of job this project will create.
-
Mike L from Port Jefferson Station, NY
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project
-
Josh J- New York, NY. As a lifelong Long Islander and Islanders fan in my mid-20s pushed out to seek better options in the big city, I am absolutely FOR this project.
Long Island deserves a center; we deserve a team; and, ToH, we deserve a proactive government.
-
For the lighthouse.
Reasons:
1–Job Creation
2–Rebuilding of a hub that is in need of it.
3–Trickle down economics–Will provide businesses in the area with a shot in the arm, increase tourism, bring events to LI that are normally skipped (concerts, conventions, etc..)
4–Keeps the Islanders here
5–Not using my tax dollarsThis is a no-brainer but unfortunately, the town is run by a lawyer, not a business person who understands what this project can mean. The best way to make this happen is to vote against Kate Murray on Election Day. Get her out of there so LI can progress into the 21st century.
-
My name is Louis Ben—tto and I own and operate a small construction company in South Carolina. I moved away from Long Island following many other larger companies for the futures of my family and business. I miss my true home, the place I called home for 38 years, but my company could not thrive there like it now does in Carolina. Allthough I am no longer a resident I am 100% for the project. If something like this were proposed when I WAS there I have no doubt that my company could’ve benefited from it and not only could I have stayed on the Island, I could’ve also expanded my business to hire more employees and in turn been able to put more Long Islanders to work. Please make the lighthouse a reality so your families do not feel the pressure to relocate to greener pastures. Make Long Island a place where people WANT to move in and not HAVE to move out.
-

FOR the project -
Brian from Queens, NY
I am absolutely for the lighthouse project. The Isles belong in Long Island. This project will create numerous job opportunities and make Long Island notable again to outsiders. Charles Wang has done everything in his power to get this done for 5 years…even losing money every year. YES to the lighthouse project
-
Steve H.
East Hampton, NYI am for this project for the following reasons:
1) Jobs for Long Islanders
2) The preservation of the New York Islanders on LI
3) To prevent the Wrath of God to visit Kate Murray if she votes nay -
Daniel L. from Plainview – I fully support the Lighthouse project. I am a recent college graduate attending graduate school, and there are no jobs in sight here on LI. Not only that but property values and taxes are through the roof which makes starting a family here even that much more difficult. I grew up watching this team, on this Island, and it would be a shame to pass up the opportunity to bring jobs, economic stability and affordable housing to this increasing two-class Island of ours. This must happen for so many reasons scaled back or not. It must get the green light.
-
YES YES YES build it!
Im Tom from Westchester, this project is a much needed $$$ boost and revenue/tax boost for Long Island. Jobs, Taxes $$ and 2 things you cant buy — PRIDE AND PRESTIGE!!
Build a state of the art building for Long Islands ONLY professional sports team that makes the rest of the country and even world look at with some envy!
I can understand some concerns (traffic, etc) but your talking 41 home games out of a 365 day year. I think with proper planning it would be a minor inconvience on those 40 days. Think of the baron wasteland that it would turn into the other 320+ days IF THE ISLANDERS LEAVE, REALLY THINKG ABOUT IT!!! Kinda sad….
Lets think positive and get behind something that can make all Long Islanders of all backgrounds be proud of ASAP, GO LIGHTHOUSE!

I am for this project !
lets get this done
-
Christopher Kirsch
Bellmore, NY
I support the Lighthouse Project and the future of Long Island -
I am for the project. It is necessary for long Island to survive. Without this project our kids will continue to leave long island. Without the Islanders we become just another suburb. The Islanders make long island relevant and when you are part of New York it is necessary to stay relevant.
-
Valley Stream, YES! For so many reasons, yes!
-
As a former LI resident, currently a Buffalo resident, I know what this project would mean to LI and to the Islanders survival as a franchise. LI is going down the tubes fast. They need this project to get off the ground in a hurry. LI will always have traffic, with or without the Lighthouse project. Just another excuse for Nassau County government officials to serve their own best interests, not the people.
-
I am 100% for the lighthouse. I have watched to many people move out of state because other states offer more for the money. At one time Long Island offered a heck of a lot, even though taxes were high. Today, many other places can offer more for less. We need to become a frontrunner once again in were families want to live and raise a family. There are negatives to all projects this size, but I truly believe that the positives greatly out way the negatives in the Lighthose project.
-
The Islanders need to be financially viable, and remainin New York. I am FOR the project
-
I vote YES! Grew up on the Island, now live outside of Syracuse. Been an Isles fan since the beginning & want them to stay on LI. If they move, the negative impact on LI will be felt for decades in many ways that may not even be seen now. Even more important than keeping the Isles on the Island, are both the near term and long term benefits a once in a lifetime project such as the Lighthouse will bring to TOH, the county and all LI. The effect of a Lighthouse development will mushroom by inspiring renewal & upgrade development in surrounding areas. TOH Board: Are you ready to be leaders, to be bold, and take your community on the path to a successful future or will you be ostritches and stick your heads in the ground showing your constituents your behinds? Are you ready to be progressives or will you be regressives stuck in the muck and mire of old thinking?
DO THE RIGHT THING…APPROVE THE LIGHTHOUSE -
we need this. the town needs this. Mr. Wang
deserves this -
I am for the project, and think that this is necessary on Long Island. I am 29 years old, and to be honest there isn’t much around on Long Island anymore to make people my age want to stay.
This will put people back to work, and help out families in need. I have an idea that the people of TOH and Garden City should have an adopt a family program. All the people that are against it should adopt a family who would have someone put back to work by this project, and pay all their bills, mortgages, and put food on their table. People of Garden City’s greatest fear are of people that are “beneath” them entering their area. Life extends well past your country club’s.
Let’s get this project done.
-
Todd – Inwood
Iam for the project as it stands or even an expanded version. I have been a resident of ToH for 37 years and I vote. -
Eric Nelson, Austin, TX
I am looking at the Lighthouse project as catalyst to return home. I have lived away from NY for the past 18 years and would like to see some progress in this area. Jobs have been leaving the island for a long time now and it would appear that this project is the perfect mix of jobs and development. Please see that this project is accepted as so many islanders are in need of this rebirth.
-
Ben Kantor, East Islip
YES! lets get this done already
-
Dave from Quesnel B.C. Canada
100% for the Lighthouse -
My Name is Nicholas Rizzo and I am from Staten Island NY and the Islanders need the Lighthouse! I am for the Lighthouse!
-
The State of New York needs this, The County of Nassau needs this, The Town of Hempstead needs this, The New York Islanders need, The Islander fans need this, I need this and most importantly MY CHRILDREN need this to be built!!! Let’s get it right, Tweak if you must but get it done. Don’t fail this place we live and the people who live here!
-
Pete from Brooklyn NY, I am for this project.Long Island needs economic growth and this is where it will begin. Put people back to work!
-
Alan from Hempstead. Build the lighthouse already. This is the best thing I have seen happening in the last 10 yrs. This is the best thing for the county.
-
Build it!!!
-
the newsday piece was credible and solid reporting. finally. late in the game as it is, it sheds some light on this labyrinth.
-
Wow- what a response we have got here.
Adam Volpe from the Town of Oyster Bay, Glen Head NY… is 110% FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT!
I bleed orange and blue, and I would bleed for this project.
BUILD IT and WE WILL COME!
-
Mike Troiani, East Rockaway, NY
I am 100% for the Lighthouse
The County of Nassau needs this, The Town of Hempstead needs this, The New York Islanders need this. -
Sergio Lombardo from Huntington, NY. Currently active duty military stationed in Sicily. BUILD THE LIGHTHOUSE!!!
-
Brian F. Long Beach.
The article from Ms. Arbour says more that I ever could about the love the Island has for its team. Mr. Wang is showing his love for the Island by spending millions of dollars to update the Coliseum and create a development to cater to an array of consumers. IS the scope to large? Possibly, but that can be worked out. The Town of Hempstead needs to understand the value of the Islanders to the entire county.
I’m for it, let’s get it done.
-
Seth Schniebolk from Rockville Centre.
Yes to the Lighthouse. I feel the potential advantages of this project unanimously outweigh the negatives. I am only 20, but in 10 years or so when I am looking to settle down and find a place for my family, this project will be a huge factor in my decision making. -
Darryl from upstate (Orange County). I try to make the trip to the Coliseum 5-10x a year and even though the commute to Brooklyn or Queens would be better (hypothetically speaking), the Islanders belong on Long Island forever. The Islanders need an upgraded facility and Long Island needs an upgrade of hundreds of acres of parking lot. It will generate thousands of jobs and bring back economic growth to the area.
1000% yes to this project!
-
Ted from Huntington.
I am 100% for the Lighthouse project! -
Mike from Seaford, NY
I am for the Lighthouse -
Nick L from Farmingdale.
I’m 100% FOR the Lighthouse. Lets go Isles!
-
I can’t claim to fully understand all the benefits and issues this project raises as I’m not from the area and have not been to any meetings nor read the Lighthouse proposal thoroughly.
What is clear however, is that politics are playing the largest role in this process. The ToH have at every turn attempted to appear neutral in this process. However, their mind games, comments, lack of cooperation and stonewalling are obvious.
It is my belief that whatever downsides this project creates CAN be overcome and worked out. What is sad, however, is that the ToH seem to be paralyzed by the “possible” negatives of the project that they are completely overlooking the positive impact that this project can have on the region.
I am a diehard Islanders fan. But this reason alone is not enough to vote for the Lighthouse. Simply put, this project stands to bring many benefits (and yes, perhaps a few consequences) to a region that by all accounts seems to be withering away. The end result is that there seems to be more positives than negatives, not the least of which, will save my beloved Islanders. For these reasons, I stand behind the Lighthouse Project.
-
Dan from NJ. I support the Lighthouse project being built. As an outside resident of Long Island, not only will the Lighthouse project keep Long Island’s only major sports franchise on site, but it also gives Long Island a tourist destination. When I think of going places, Long Island currently isn’t on my list due to it’s lack of a high profile attraction. As an Islanders fan, I would love to have the chance to visit Long Island with friends to catch an Islanders game on a Friday night and make a 3 day weekend out of it on Long Island. That’s not something I would do with the current situation.
-
Yes, The islanders need a new arena, the devilss got one, and i dont thin its too much to ask for atleast a new arena, 1000000 percent yes!~
-
Jack from Rochester, NY
Build it, we’ve all waited long enough. -
Names B and I am for the Lighthouse! it would be a great place to live, spend time with friends and of course WATCH THE ISLANDERS
-
Raised in Hicksville….living in Jersey….teaching every Brielle kid that comes to my class about the Islanders….
yes…I’m for the Lighthouse.I’d make at least ten games a year from Jersey if it were built. That’s 10 trips to Raimo’s pizza as well.
-
My name is Ryan Yuhas and I’m from East Moriches, New York and I am FOR the Lighthouse project
-
Yea. The Islanders need a new home and Long Island needs the jobs and tax revenue.
-
My name is John Farina, and I am for the Lighthouse.
I have lived in Valley Stream my entire life. I am a volunteer firefighter in my home town. Long Island is my home. Nassau County is my home. I want my children to make LONG ISLAND their home for years to come. I want my GRANDCHILDREN to live here on Long Island. BUILD THIS PROJECT! Our politicians cannot fail us any longer. It is not acceptable! I will no longer accept the status quo.
-
YES!!!!!
-
Adam Russin from New York, NY
I don’t live in the TOH, but I am a New York State and Federal tax payer….and I vote YES!!!!
-
I am for the Lighthouse.
Keep the Islanders where they belong. -
Enough of the politics as usual – ZONE IT!, BUILD IT!
-
AM in favor of the Lighthouse – esp. if we don’t have to listen to that jingle anymore MEET ME AT THE LIGHTHOUST and Don’t forget your smile!
-
Ryan Metzler from Rockville Centre, NY. For.
-
Anyone against the lighthouse project is not watching the national news.
This is a no-brainer.
Private $$ not public
significant tax revenue to an area that needs it
jobs creation — both temporary and permanent.
YES on Lighthouse. -
My name is Rob Scott. I grew up in Merrick amd am a life long Islander fan. I am for the Lighthouse. Build this thing!
-
Luke from Islip, current living in Brooklyn, one of the many young people forced to move away thanks to the Long Island’s political aversion to progress.
100% for the Lighthouse. Failure to make this happen only ensures Long Island remains generations behind and will force more young people like myself to move on without it. I also cannot stand the idea of losing the Islanders.
-
Yes I support the Lighthouse!!!!!!!!! JUST BUILD IT!!!!!!!!! It will not only help the Islanders stay but it will help the economic problems and provide jobs. It will also put use to all that concrete that is just sitting there gaining weeds.
-
Rob, Hicksville, For lighthouse, we need this team
-
Marc Lieber here. Former & future Long Island resident and lifetime Islanders’ fan. The Lighthouse is right for so many reasons. While it’s unlikely to get approved by Saturday, give Wang the “yes” answer he wants, needs and deserves. Make The Lighthouse a place residents — young and old — want to go to, a place inticing for free agents, a place with a sold out arena, and a place with room for many more Stanley Cup banners.
-
Nick from merrick…i am FOR the lighthouse. This will benefit not only the islanders but all of long island
-
Joe from staten island. I am for the Lighthouse
-
I am Michele. I am for anything that keeps the Islanders, here on the Island. And also the thought of jobs.

Fred Volkman
Saratoga Springs, NYI’m from LI and continue to be a huge fan. I followed this very closely and attended town meetings. It has been frustrating and disconcerting how the TOH has advertised their position from the start. When you see a governing body that doesn’t embrace a project like this you really have to wonder the reason why. I maintain my position that this is small minds with no vision for the future.
LI needs this, Nassau County needs this and Islander fans definitely need the Lighthouse project. -
Dan Krall, formerly of St. James, currently of New Orleans. I am FOR the project. I have been for years. I have posted many times here and elsewhere why I am, so I won’t rehash more than just to say that I am a young professional who will not return to the Island that raised me until I see that it will move beyond it’s own antiquated mentalities.
-
Michael C. Bethpage, NY. I am 100% FOR the Lighthouse.
-
I don’t live on the Island, but I would be much more willing to come as a tourist (and convince the wife to come too) if this was built.
In fact, it actually looks like it would be a really cool place to come as a tourist.
Thus, put me down for 100% for.
-
I am from Hauppauge, and I’m for it. But the fact is AL D’Amato (who by the way was on SMG’s board after the horrendous lease was signed) and the Nassau Republicans will never give it to Wang. Wang wouldn’t let Armand D’Amato be his attorney (Newsday 09/27/09) so now Al has payback.
-
I am FOR the LightHouse! ! GET IT DONE TOH! !
-
Michael Esposito- Hicksville, NY
I am in favor of the Lighthouse Project not only for the Islanders but for all of Nassau County. Stop the politicking and come to some type of an agreement. Crooks like D’amato need to be investigated and taken out of anything that relates to the Lighthouse.
-
Ralph from Lake Grove ISLANDER lifer..
Yes, because this is bigger than the Islanders. It is about making the Island a better place to live. It will also put people back to work..
-
Michael C from Sacramento, CA, formerly of Southhampton, NY. I am decidedly for the Lighthouse.
It is a shame that the Town of Hempstead, their doublespeaking lawyer Ra, and the local GOP, are killing this project over politics. It is very small of them. Politicos at higher levels would normally grow this kind of project because of the obvious benefits to the local economy. They would ask for, and receive, concessions in the form of set asides for local labor (read: ToH based labor). That the town blatantly ignores this fact is utterly damning of them. That it is at the behest of the local GOP is equally damning of them as well.
-
Paul M. from Bay Shore here to pitch in another Yes vote. Now let’s see something not typically associated with Nassau County – PROGRESS.
-
Pete Briguglio, Massapequa. 110% for the lighthouse. lets get it done
-
AM from Roslyn.
100% for Lighthouse Project.
I can’t wait to leave the Island. This project would make me come back many times. -
I am FOR the project. Long island needs this!!
-
I’m Mike, and from me and my entire family & friends in Ronkonkoma we vote YES !!!!!!
-
Peter
I am FOR the lighthouse! -
oops from Islip township
-
john from rockville centre. let’s finally get the lighthouse project started.
-
I’m Sean from Port Moody, BC, Canada. I’m not really sure it’s my place to voice an opinion on a development that is geographically across the continent for me. However, I, and I’m sure JKP in Halifax (427), Dave in Quesnel (378), and the Islander Nation in general outside of the New York area, would like a reason to come to Long Island every couple years. With a development like this, you might attract more tourists to Nassau County instead of just Manhattan. Without the Lighthouse, I am convinced we lose the Islanders, and without the Islanders, I have no reason to come to Long Island.
Build the Lighthouse.
-
My name is John Goscinski from Carle Place NY. I am for the lighthouse project.
-
Valentino
Hempstead NY 11550Yes to the lighthouse. Yes to diversification of housing options. Yes to expanding the tax base. Yes to voting out career politicians who do nothing except take care of their family with govt jobs. Finally, Yes to moving out of Hempstead if this project does not get approved and built.
-
Mary from Manhasset (Town of North Hempstead). FOR.
-
Phil – former LI resident. I honestly would probably not have a position on the LH if it did not involve the Islanders. At times in the process, I’ve felt like Islanders fans have been used and threatened in order to advance a cause. I see the merits of the project; I just wish they could stand on their own rather than be tied to a franchise that means more to the fans than any parcel of land or development project ever will.
All that said, I am 100% FOR the project if it means we get to keep our team.
-
George P, 20, Massapequa Park, I am FOR the Lighthouse project. If this project does not happen, the HUB will be a barren wasteland for decades to come. All Mr. Wang wants to do is take a parking lot and make it paradise, to paraphrase the Counting Crows. Lets go Islanders!
-
Long Island needs the Lighthouse. From the Queens line to Montauk Long Island has developed a culture of no. The result of this “not in my backyard” thinking is an Island devoid of qualities that enrich each ones life. Theaters, Sporting events, affordable living that gives our youth a place to put down roots. These are the instruments of growth. Traffic, water, waste treatment are merely crutches of fear that are easily overcome. Saving a concrete wasteland in the name of fear is nothing more wasting our future. Build the Lighthouse and you build our future.
-
DB From Nassau County is FOR the lighthouse project
-
Jason Beickert from Hicksville NY. I vote an emphatic YES for the Lighthouse Project.
-
WE NEED THE LIGHTHOUSE FOR THE FUTURE AND JOBS AND THE ISLANDERS
-
My name is Michael Kavanagh West Babylon, NY and i am all for the lighthouse project
-
I grew up in Wantagh and have been attending Islander games my whole life. I currently live in Manhattan and have a brand new baby boy (4 days old) and I’m deciding whether or not to move back to Nassau. Long Islanders deserve a place to congregate, celebrate, and relax. The area surrounding NVMC has been a wasteland for too long. I am 100% for this project. Other places are able to make progress (Asbury Park & Pier Village in NJ, etc…). Don’t turn LI into a second rate destination. Make the future, make jobs, make progress, GET IT DONE.
-
Mike from Massapequa…I am FOR the lighthouse project!!
The lighthouse is without question a very positive step for long island, nassau county, and the islanders. If for some reason this project does not go through..i am for any way of keeping the islanders here on long island..whether its down-scaleing the project or moving to brooklyn
-
Honnold, Suffolk County
FOR the Lighthouse. -
I am all for the Lighthouse Project. I live in Kings Park now but I grew up in East Meadow a stone’s throw from Hempstead Turnpike and the Coliseum. In 1989 when I moved to Suffolk the area was a dump already. It got worse and will only continue to get worse without this project. The only people who are against this project are shortsighted NIMBY-ists who don’t care if Nassau sinks or swims. They say the area will look like Queens. News flash, it already does. Complete with a horrid low class neighborhood five minutes away, a motor inn with three hour rates and nickle and dime stores that do very little productive business. Nothing of great value happens in the Coliseum when hockey season ends. It bleeds money daily. It is not a convention center so it has no appeal to anyone or anything outside of hockey. As has been stated enough times it is an asphalt wasteland. All that is missing is the tumbleweeds.
-
Patrick Bedell from merrick, NY
I am for the lighthouse project -
Nick from Merrick. I am for the project. It would be good for my business and I want the Islanders to stay here. The NVMC is where the Islanders won their 4 cups. If anything they should make it a Landmark.
-
Frank A.
West Islip, NY
I vote yes for the Lighthouse. The support is overwhelmingly FOR the Lighthouse… just build it people! -
Its time for Long Island to come out of the dark for once and be a destination for many. My name is Seth, I am from Valley Stream, and I support the lighthouse project. If this concrete parking lot doesn’t get the upgrade that a local himself with vision proposes, then we should all move to a place that can. The stench of politics is enough, and we all deserve better.
-
Ric – 14 year TOH resident (Oceanside) – lifelong LI resident.
100% for the Lighthouse as proposed. Why?Jobs.
A revamped arena for the Isles and a guarantee they stay.
New concerts and conventions that wouldn’t be caught dead coming here now.
Places to go and things to do at night, whether you’re attending a game or not.
Housing that maybe my currently 13-year-old daughter will be able to afford when she’s looking to move out.
Tax revenue.HOW @#$$^@!!! HARD IS THIS?
-
Al Fusco Levittown,TOH. YES to THE LIGHTHOUSE. See you in NOVEMBER
-
My name is Timothy Meehan and I currently live in Greenpoint Brooklyn. Family lives in Melville. I am for the Lighthouse project not just to keep the New York Islanders where they should be, but for economic growth in the area. I moved from Long Island to Brooklyn due to lack of work. The community deserves this project.
-
I am FOR The Lighthouse Project 1000%
-
I am one of the few remaining ORIGINAL season tix holders. Growing up I lived for the Isles and Nets. I was a vendor there too. Despite it always being a second rate facility it was always a special place. I have memories from my childhood and my children, now young adults, have memories of spending time with their Dad at hockey games. I live in West Hempstead. Obviously I am for the Lighthouse but not just because of the Islanders. The project will create jobs, create a positive identity for the Island, and is the best use of this land. Approval will finally demonstrate recognition that LI is no longer a small segregated community. We are an urbanish suburb; a new model suburb. We need to embrace reality and move forward with this project. Without the LH, that area will be wasteland as developers will be scared off and the closed minded will never agree on what should be done there. Just Zone it.
-
Bill from Coram yes!!
-
I am Lauren Bernstein and I am FOR the Lighthouse. I have had season tickets and have been going to Islander games since before I can even remember. Although I want to do whatever it takes to keep the Islanders on Long Island and at their home I also believe the Lighthouse will be helpful for anyone who lives on Long Island. This project NEEDS to be passed.
-
Rob Salem – for the lighthouse project.
-
Eric Mirlis from Plainview. Not only did I grow up and remain an Islander fan, but I am also a former employee of the team from 1991-96. Having moved back to Long Island from the city around a year ago, th elast thing I want is to not have the chance to bring my newborn son to see the team I grew up with both personally an professionally.
To me, it is completely mind-blowing that this has taken as long and met with the resistance that it has. It is time to stop the nonsense and approve this thing already – for the future of Long Island as much as for the future of the franchise that we all love.
Build it!!!
-
I’m from Merrick. I support the lighthouse. Go team
-
I am for the Lighthouse Project wake up TOH just build it !!!!!!
-
Patrick Combs
Support the lighthouse. It bring jobs, reduces taxes and brings in income.
-
Billy Kent from Bayport New York, living in Vancouver BC, give me a reason to come home!
I am FOR the lighthouse…VOTE YES!!
-
im FOR the lighthouse
-
Dr Bob from Garden City. Absolutely, unequivocally in favor of Lighthouse Development Project.
-
Yes to the Lighthouse.
-
Kristy from Westchester.
I am for this project. Please keep the Islanders in Long Island. -
I am Anthony from Brooklyn and I am FOR the Lighthouse. I have had season tickets for four years and haven’t missed a game. The area needs it. It would be a shame if the team would have to move, even if it is to Brooklyn.
-
Steve from Nassau
Obviously, I am an islander fan, so i am in favor of the project. It keeps the team here.
That being said, I do understand those that disapprove.
George Carlin used to do this skit about jails. Everyone is for them…but not in my backyard.
Well, there is some of that here. It is easy for me to say yes because I have no concerns over the added traffic or pollution.
If the islanders can legitimately prove these issues are addressed, I would think that this would remove the “NIMBY” issues.
That being said, Nassau county is 100 percent behind this and there is a good chance this is all a ploy by the nassau county republican party to prevent suozzi from an election year achievement.
So….just build it!
-
John from Suffolk County. I am FOR the Lighthouse.
I looked for houses in East Meadow, but no were AFFORDABLE. Moved to Suffolk. Build it and I may be able to FIND AFFORDABLE housing.
-
For. The Islanders are as Long Island as Captree, Robert Moses and Moutauk. Don’t let this team, with the history it has leave the only place it should ever call home.
Nick Altomare
Broomfield, CO -
Rebecca Bier, Moriches, NY. Born and raised in Farmingdale.
My story is the same as so many of you. My family has left Long Island for better quality of life. I don’t know if the Lighthouse Project will keep this story from repeating but I’m willing to find out. I just don’t see any reason not to. I love Long Island and I love the Islanders.
I am FOR the LHP! -
Jimmy Williams, Bayport, NY
I am 100 percent FOR this project
-
100% for the Lighthouse. Living in SoCal now, with plans to return one day – provided the Islanders are still on Long Island.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse!!!
This project will not only keep the Islanders on Long Island providing them the new arena they so desperately need, but the Lighthouse Project will have a lasting effect on the local community.
The Lighthouse Project is good for recent graduates and young families: Through affordable housing talented young people will no longer be forced to move off the island. Instead they will be able to afford to live in and contribute to the community they have grown to love.
The Lighthouse Project is good for the environment: It will be Long Island’s largest LEED environmentally friendly endeavor. In addition the developers have committed to protecting Long Island’s most critically endangered ecological community, Hempstead Plains.
Th Lighthouse Project is good for the economy: Increasing tax revenue to support our local schools, fire and highway departments, town park district, and County police. The Lighthouse project will not only create temporary construction jobs as the project gets underway, but almost 20,000 permanent jobs will be created in the new businesses projected, providing the opportunities, careers, and economic stability, Long Islanders need and want.
JUST BUILD IT!!!!!!!!!!
-
Mike, Floral Park, NY
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project!
-
My name is Jim …. I live in Islip New York, I work on Long Island and I hope to retire in a decade. Build the Lighthouse and I will stay on this Island. Don’t build it and I will move when I retire and spend my tremendous Social Security check elsewhere such as the hockey hotbeds or Phoenix,
-
My name is Doug from Manhattan formerly from East Northport and I am for the lighthouse. The lighthouse is the most important thing for long island and needs to be built. Long Island loses too much without it. Push the politics and uptight Long Islanders aside and do what is right. I want this for my family, my Islanders, and for long Islands future.
-
for the Lighthouse!!
-
I hate the Islanders but Im still for this project. Hey the Rangers need someone close by to spank. A new arena on L.I. is a long time coming think of all the money to be made
-
I am Rob G from Hauppauge, NY. Die hard NYI for as much of my 26 years as i can remember. I vote YES to the LHP and keeping our NYI right here where they belong!!!
-
Was for it but NOT now. Islanders management has no regard for the safey of the fans. The Coliseum is not safe and NY Islanders have done nothing to protect the public. Got a concussion from a microphone falling from the press box directly over my season holders seat. Not even a call from them to see how I was doing. Refuse to put up a protective barrier to prevent it from happening again. Threatened to arrest me if I held onto the mic for evidence. ALL seats under suites and press boxes are NOT safe. I have not fully recovered from the assault. Greedy uncaring management dont deserve approval.
-
I am from Queens NY and I support the Lighthouse.
-
Jobs for the people, taxes for the County/Town, A professional team to be proud of; 100% yes. Get’ er done!
-
My name is Domenic Longo … i’m 39 and a lifelong Islander fan … i’m from Middle Village Queens and i vote YES to the Lighthouse.
Long Island needs this project and they need the Islanders -
Yes to the lighthouse–No to the concrete lot thats there now
-
John Ballantyne from Levittown, NY
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project, Long Islands own stimulus package!! -
Yes to the Lighthouse…Get it done already.
-
corey dunn
live in ridgefield connecticut, dont live in new hyde park anymore but visit nassau county almost every weekend. im am FOR the lighhouse project -
My name is Steve from Malverne, this project would bring back vital housing for students my age. Young people are leaving the island in droves and contributing to the over all brain drain of the island. With a beautiful project like this we can stem the tide of people deserting the island and provide affordable housing for the next generation of Long Islanders.
-
YES to the Lighthouse Project. The time has come to give Long Island what it so desperately needs already. Enough of the politics and red tape — get this thing built already.
-
nassau, is dying. this project can breath new life into it. let’s get done!
-
Matt Ricci , Valley Stream NY , I am FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE !! We are ALL Islanders!!!!
-
Rich Dinka, Huntington, NY
I am for the Lighthouse! Let’s get it done!
-
It’s time to make an eyesore something wonderful to look at. Long Island has become a train wreck of lame strip malls, Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks. Cirque de SO LAME!! Give the Isles a new home like this….all players will want to play here. In addition, this will give new employment opportunities in a down economy and a bright future for Long Island. It can be the beacon for all to come to. 4 straight cups is bad ass. The Lighthouse will compliment those championships and perhaps others to come.
-
My name is Pete Truszkowski. I am 14 years old. I live in Lindenhurst. I support the lighthouse project. Not only will it keep the Islanders where they belong, on Long Island, but help support my generation, as well as future generations. Let’s revive Long Island! Just build it!
-
YES!!!!!! i need a job!!!!!!!!. if i get to work on this i can say “ya i helped build the lighthouse”!!
-
I’m from town of oyster bay and am in my 20′s. I’m one of the few remaining from my friends that have left long island in search for greener pastures. Those pastures are more job opportunities, and housing options where you’re not paying over 10k in taxes for a tiny piece of property. Give Long Island a place where businesses can bring jobs to. Give long island a place where people can afford to own a home. Give Long Island something else than a giant parking lot. Give Long Island opportunity. Give Long Island the Lighthouse.
-
Matt Prager, Valley Stream
I am without a doubt a supporter for the Lighthouse. I have been going to school in Philadelphia for 3 years and have listened to every game on internet radio (all I get is Flyer games), and when I am done with school and come back home, I want to be able to watch my team play. I have seen many great Islander moments in my life, but I have never seen them even get past the 1st round of the playoffs, much less make it to the Stanley Cup. Please do not stop this newly reborn team prematurely and let The Islanders, me, and every other loyal fan out there to get our Stanley Cup.
-
I grew up in Levittown, now I live in Ulster County, NY. My father worked at the coliseum from 72 until 79. The islanders were a huge part of my family’s lives. I am for the project, not only to keep the team on LI, but it’s what the team needs, even if there was no threat of moving. Just build it.
-
Henry from Manhattan. I support the lighthouse–it’s time for the town of Hempstead to listen to the citizens and get this done.
-
Peter I., New Hyde Park, NY
100% YES, as other sports teams and cities move forward and advance into the future of sports entertainment with new stadiums, nassau county, the TOH, and the islanders are living in the past, its time to give this franchise, and this area the venue and all around attraction it deserves. kate murray and the town board, and all politicians work for us, not the other way around, they better start recognizing that before they make a HUGE mistake. -
Ken from Oceanside. In full support of the light house project
-
my name is kyle an am from kings park… i am for the lighthouse all the way
-
Matt brooklyn Plz build the Lighthouse please ive been an isles fan my whole life
-
Jason Faustino – Melville/Rockville Centre
I’m IN FAVOR of this Lighthouse Project. I’m a full supporter with the belief that the Islanders benefit, hockey benefits, the economy benefits, and mostly Long Island overall benefits and becomes a healthier, more attractive, exciting, and beautiful place to be. -
Pat from outside NY, but I am a partner in a Nassau County based business and am fully in support of the Lighthouse. The thing I don’t understand is how many other communities would LOVE to have an offer for this type of development that didn’t include massive amounts of public $ and on LI, this has so many hurdles. That type of stagnation is one of the reason’s I don’t live there any more.
-
My name is Michael Mingione, I live in the Bronx and I’m for the lighthouse
-
I am from Great Neck and I am FOR the Lighthouse project. JUST BUILD IT! The implications of the ToH voting “no” will have far-reaching effects, way beyond the Islanders. It’s tantamount to telling the world, “Don’t bother trying to come to Nassau to build your dreams.” This project must get done!
-
Dave from Plainview. I’m a huge Rangers fan and don’t want to see the islanders move and have a great rivalry die, plus this would be the best thing to happen to LI in a long time. Build the lighthouse!
-
Partisan politics and the interests of a very few well connected people keep LI in the business development dark ages. Cronyism and backroom nods have repeatedly killed projects that would attract business and talent while making LI attractive and affordable to newer generations. How many times can this scenario be played out until LI ages beyond repair and does inevitably become Queens, not because of tall buildings or dense development, but because not enough quality, desirable jobs are available outside of Manhattan. Short sighted, special interest driven politics have ruled LI for too long and the TOH is a shining example of that in action. They simply are too shortsighted to recognize the chance to create excellence and energize an entire population, making the community a better place to live and work in. That is what could happen and sometimes does happen when a plan is formulated and is allowed to play out. That plan, in one form or another, is the Lighthouse project and the hopeful change of the Islanders into a team that could contend for and win a Stanley Cup. Please let’s hope that the TOH can see past their smaller interests and provide the stage to let this happen here on LI. For those who remember, excellence and achievement are qualities that can’t easily be manufactured. But when they are, people will believe that there are no limits to what they can do. We need those thoughts here. Let’s hope the Lighthouse zoning is approved and the Islanders stay where they truly belong – on LI.
-
Ryan from Hoboken, yes to the future, yes to the Lighthouse!
-
My name is Steve and I’m definitely for this project.
-
Dave from CT, originally from Long Island and hit 4-5 isles games every year. for multiple reasons, this has to happen – definitely for the Lighthouse.
-
I, patrick
is in full support for this project and it must get approved! -
i’m rick
i’m from long island and
i’m in for this project -
I’m Ron, and I want the lighthouse. On top of it being a place for the Islanders to play I think it would be fantastic for young people with the affordable housing that they want to build.
-
Jamie, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am in full support of the Lighthouse Project.
-
Get it done.
-
Give me a reason to stay after attending an Islanders game. Build the Lighthouse. Beautify an area that needs it.
Douglaston, NY
-
I’m Joe Eybs from Port Jefferson Station, NY and I support the Lighthouse Project 100%.
-
Help us ex-pat Town of Hempers and ex LI-ers return home. Build the Lighthouse and support the people.
Patrick in Colorado. -
Tom K
Bay Shore NYVERY much for the project. Will not only keep the ONLY Long Island team here but will be great for Long Island itself.
-
My wife and I are for the Lighthouse project. We are Town of Hempstead residents and will watch Anthony Santino’s vote concerning this project very closely. If he votes for the project, he has our vote. If he votes against the project, we shall vote for his opponent. If no one runs against him, I will.
-
Kevin from Cliffside Park, NJ. I am one of those who grew up in Nassau County and moved away. I am FOR the Lighthouse.
-
Chris R. from Selden, is in favor of the Lighthouse Project.
-
Brett Cooper from East Rockaway New York, season ticket holder since the 1972-73 season and i am FOR the Lighthouse Project

Josh
Commack, NY110% in favor of the lighthouse. Keep the Islanders where they belong. Bring LI into the future.
-
Dan W, currently of Ronkonkoma, NY born and raised in Wantagh NY. My wife and I are IN FAVOR of this project. Looking to taking my 3 year old daughter and 2 month old son to games soon.
-
Joe W
Huntington Station, NyI’m currently a senior in college studying Business. I not only want the Islanders to stay but I would love to see the career prospects that come out of this project. It could really help alot of students like myself in the future. I am 100 percent FOR this project.
-
I am for it. it will be an economic boon for long island for years to come.
-
GGC from Babylon Village approves of the LHP.
Biases accounted for, an Islander fan foremost. In my research of this project over the summer, attending the Environmental Impact meeting and reading countless arguments for and against, I have learned that this project goes well beyond the New York Islanders. The benefits, I believe, outweigh the potential disadvantages. Certain logistics still need to be smoothed out, but if I were voting on this proposal I would vote yes with the thought that I would negotiate with the developers in hammering out those practicalities.
-
Matt from New Hyde Park, and I’m for it. Emphatically.
-
Andrew from Vancouver, BC, Canada.
I’ve been an Islander fan since I was 8 years old and watched nystrom score the OT Cup winner. I’ve suffered through all the lean years and mocking from my friends but have always remained faithful. I would be heart-broken for all Long Islanders if they lost their team. So from one coast to the other I am all for the Lighthouse Project.
-
Matt, Massapequa
For.
Save the Isles. Save LI. Seems like a win-win.
-
David Cohen
Glen HeadI am FOR the Lighthouse project. Nassau County NEEDS these jobs, it NEEDS the revenue this project will create, and most importantly, it NEEDS the New York Islanders.
-
Pam from Wantagh. I am absolutely in favor of the light house project. Season ticket holder since 72, but my support goes beyond the Islanders. The quality of life on Long Island has been deteriorating for years. Long Island is in desperate need of an economic boost. The coliseum and surrounding site is a disgrace and an eyesore. It’s time.
-
Kevin M from Babylon, NY.
I am absolutely in favor of the Lighthouse.
-
I am Gary originally from Patchogue, now in Phoenix, AZ. I am FOR the lighthouse. There were no teaching jobs for me on LI and not much affordable housing … two of the reasons I and many of my friends had to leave the Island. I couldn’t imagine the Isles not being there. Please get this done.
-
Brian Dinka
Huntington, NYI am for the lighthouse not only because it keeps my favorite team home, but also for the jobs it will create.
-
Donna C from Merrick. I support the Lighthouse not only for the Islanders but for the jobs it will create here on LI
-
Andrew
Huntington, NY
For the Lighthouse
-
Gary from C. Moriches here; as it stands now, I am against it. However, if they can scale it down, get the LIRR to stop there & make REAL improvements to the traffic infrastructure, then I could consider it.
-
I am 100% behind the Lighthouse project. We need a decent arena on Long Island to bring in quality talent so this team can succeed
-
James Ryan
Lindenhurst, NY
Absolutely 100% for it. Sick of smarmy partisan politics playing a role in everything on Long Island. Sick of higher and higher taxes and cost of living and getting less and less for it. A failure to get this done would be a failure of epic proportions for Nassau County and Long Island.
-
I’m Jimmy kiernan from massapequa and i support the lighthouse project
-
I am for the Lighthouse Project. VOTE YESS!!!!
-
Michael Keane, Merrick native. I’m in favor of the Lighthouse project.
-
For the lighthouse. Oh yeah!!!!!
-
Rich J.
Hicksville, Long Island, New York.
I’m in favor of the Light House project and all the of the benefits it would bring to Long Island and it’s surrounding communities. In not so many words, the Light House would make a strong push to keep the New York Islanders right here where they belong. In addition, and probably of greater economic signifigance, it would provide for business development and draw from a variety of industries. -
Adam L, Old Bridge, NJ
I am FOR this project. -
Mike
Westchester NY
I am FOR the Lighthouse. -
Muttontown.
First 18 years lived in TOH.
Last 15 in TOB.For the project.
Not only because I am an Isles fan.
Long Island needs development.
Young people have always been leaving but now more than ever there is no reason for them to stay.
If nothing gets developed and there are people continue to leave LI where will the tax revenues come to fund our schools and police departments?
They are contracted employees who always receive raises.
Young people will continue to leave and we will be left with a population of retirees and new immigrants.
Those demographics will not earn enough to pay for the civil services we have.
I would prefer a scaled down version but if nothing gets done we are in trouble.
In closing I am in favor of the Lighthouse.
-
Jeff Speight, Rockville Centre, NY. I am in favor of the lighthouse project for the following reasons; additional affordable housing (my children had to leave the island since they couldn’t afford to live here), additional tax revenue for the county & town, job creation during and after the project is completed, an upgraded facility for the Islanders and the county, and finally the project will be primarily funded with private money.
-
Brandon from Plainview, and I am for the lighthouse.
-
Jonathan Bjelland
Valley Stream, NY
100% FOR the Lighthouse Project. The vast majority of 20 somethings my age have moved away due to scarce job opportunities, ridiculous housing prices and property taxes, and traffic/public transportation issues. The LH addresses all these issues, plus it keeps our beloved Islanders where they belong. If the LH doesn’t happen, nothing will ever be made of the area. -
YES to the Light house project. Nassau pretty much blows as it is. It could use some new life in it!! Although Islanders in brooklyn would be nice
-
John W from North Babylon
For the Lighthouse 100%- Just build it. Put the politics on hold, build a future for LI, put the Isles on the Map. Make Hempstead relevant.
-
Dylan from Queens, NY. I am for the Lighthouse project to both save the Island’s beloved and historic hockey team, and to aid in saving the Island from lack of growth, causing the Island to become slowly abandoned. There is not ONE good reason beyond corruption this project should not be approved by tommorow.
-
Ari from Nassau County (seems there is more than one). I am FOR this project. I am a twenty something struggling to live on Long Island. I am sick of this great place crumbling, new life is needed.
-
Eric from Islip – Yes
Green building principles, owner financed, greatly improving an eyesore, funneling money into the local economy, helping to ameliorate unsustainable property taxes, keeping a source of pride (the Islanders) here – just a few of the myriad benefits to this project. Of course there are some negatives – nothing is perfect. But the overall impact will overwhelmingly positive.
Yes, yes, yes. Do this.
-
Bill
East Meadow
For the Lighthouse -
My name is alex , and the ligthouse is a must not only for the islanders and their fans, but for both nassau and suffolk counties. A definite Yes!

money yes.. will of the poulation NO!How to even fathom, what these….
“Old Aging Dinsoaurs,
who call themselves republican’s?Again how stupid is what the TOH secretly is trying to accomplish???
Trading a few more years of power,
over economic prosperity & growth?C’mon thats just fundamentaly wrong regardless of what party you belong to!
This opprtunity offers a chance
(as many of us have already stated)
to restore the pride on the Ice & in the communities who call Long Island Home!!Therefore it’s quite simple
The rewards far outweigh’s the BS!The grandstanding& bickering thats gone on in terms of impact & enviroment issues Overcrowding.. etc.. etc…(sickening)
do they think we are all this stupid?C’mon TOH, its 2009 her not the 1970′s we way not be as bucolic as we used to , yet we can except change and still become better for it!

TOH we are imploring you, drop the facade approve it!Leave a positive legacy instead of using your misguided legalities & loopholes!!
What a joke kate murray has become.

On a Brighter Note…
To all My Fellow Islander Die-Hards!!

i also hope we can play & win one more playoff round in the Old barn…..
Just hear me out…When we were winning that Ole’ Colisuem happens to be the most intimadating in terms of up close & passionate building left in the league.
I’m sure many of The loyal longtime fans would agree or better yet,

Lets go Isles.. Lets Go Light house…
Lets go Long Island!!!! -
Tyler Young
Sayville,NYThe Lighthouse will provide thousands of jobs for Long Islanders, keep the NY Islanders on the island, and provide a haven of fun and hockey.
I am for the Lighthouse on LI project.
-
Names B, I am for this project. The Lighthouse will give us not only a place to watch our Islanders, but a place for everyone to go to and shop, have fun, live, hang out with friends and it will also bring tourists back to Long Island. for vacations. It will also keep the team we all love here on the Island. So please build the Lighthouse not just for the Islanders but for the people of Long Island as well. Thank you! Again I am for this project
-
YES I am FOR THIS PROJECT. Unlike my parents who plan to leave Long Island, i dont want to go. the Lighthouse can be a place that would live. It keeps the islanders on long Island, and best of all helps long Island recover from this recession. Build this project for the sake of long islands Future!!!!
Justin from mount Sinai and I am an islander
-
I jonathan – I live in Columbus Ohio. I am FOR the Lighthouse. I grew up in North Bellmore and depsite the fact that firswt and foremost, I do not want to see my beloved Islanders leave, I also think Long Island is Crazy if they do not re-develop that property. The plan looks great!
-
Long Island needs the Lighthouse PERIOD!
It would be really sad if politicians are the reason that LI dies a slow death.Michael DiGirolamo
Holbrook, NY -
Seth Goldman
Merrick, Long IslandMy family and I are all FOR the Lighthouse. This deliberate footdragging by Kate Murray and the Town of Hempstead is ridiculous. If we want Long Island to become a vibrant economic hub, we need to get this project approved as soon as possible. This is an absolute no-brainer to approve. Go Islanders!
-
I’m Will from St. James, and as a young 20-something probably going to have to move away for my field because its been killed on LI, i am for the lighthouse.
-
Chris from Rego Park- definately FOR the Lighthouse. I would gladly pay my hard-earned income to see my beloved Islanders and the other attractions the Lighthouse would bring, and I know many other people who feel the same way. Take your heads out of your a#$ss and BUILD IT ALREADY !!!
-
I am for the Lighthouse project. Build it already!
-
I am for the Lighthouse Project!
-
Eric From Huntington, 100% for the Lighthouse.
-
I am for the Lighhouse.
Brooklyn never recovered from losing the Dodgers and Long Island would be damaged irreparably if it loses the Islanders.
Here is an individual willing to do something visionary with his own money, and he’s at the mercy of politicians.
D’Amato, Murray, RA and the TOH should listen to the will of the people. of which 90% were in favor at a recent hearing.
The only thing worse than a politcian is a child molestor. -
Mark – Brooklyn
I am for the Lighthouse. The Islanders belong where they are today. Being a fan from the boro’s, taking the SSP to the Meadowbrook is like a spiritual journey. To see them leave would be a disgrace, even if they ended up playing in my backyard. -
MIke DeMarco
I am from MERRICK and I am FOR the Lighthouse.
People keep asking what problems a development of this nature may cause. How about asking what Long Island will be like if this development does not happen? What type of community would Long Island be without a professional sports team to call its own? Can we afford to turn down new jobs? New tax revenue? New, affordable, desirable housing? If the future of Long Island is really what the Town of Hempstead has in mind, then the answer to these questions should be obvious…
-
The thought of Long Island without the Islanders is unbearable to me. Mr Wang isn’t asking for tax money. Please TOH stop the politics, BUILD IT, BUILD IT NOW!
-
Logan Metzler, Rockville Centre, FOR the lighthouse project
-
Jeff DiLorenzo, Holbrook
I am IN SUPPORT of The Lighthouse Project.
We need this project to go through not only to keep my favorite sports team where they belong, but more importantly to help increase job opportunities for the numerous people of Long Island struggling to stay afloat here during this economically stressful time
-
Joe
Smithtown, NY
Yea
Tax revenue and thousands of jobs, Nassau needs this. The traffic problem can be fixed, Nassau will not become another ‘borough’ and remain a suburb regardless of this project. However, without the project Hempstead remains barron and LI takes a blow.
-
I am for the Lighthouse. All all levels Nassau needs this.
-
My name is Kevin Lynch resident of not only Nassau but the Town of Hempstead as well. We want this project we need this project. Not only do we need the tax revenue but we need an identity and we need a sign that Nassau is moving forward and not just business as usual. Remember the line “if you aren’t growing then you are dying.”
-
Steve Manzo
Clifton, NJFOR!
-
Im Danny and I am from Uniondale
I am FOR the lighthouse!!
-
Plainview NY . I vote YES. Time to stop playing politics and get good union workers back to work.
-
Joe from Fred Va, grew up in Hicksville,in favor of the LHP. Just think if the TOH does not approve it. Katie will still win by a landslide. Sad but true.
-
I am supportive of the Lighthouse even though I am not living on Long Island anymore.
-
Teddy from CSH, for the lighthouse
-
I am a blogger for the New York Rangers, so I am speaking on behalf of all Blueshirt Faithful here. We love the rivalry we have with the Isles, and would be upset if it was taken away from us. As much as I despise the team, and will continue to call them the fishsticks, I am for the project, because no fans deserve to be deprived of the team they would live and die for.
-
Steve Vibert, North Bay, ON
Yes. Let’s get this project done so we may have a destination and added incentive to make an annual Isles games trek. For me, and thousands upon thousands like me. -
I am for the lighthouse. I wish if this thing doesnt work out that both sides can comprimise and keep the Islanders right where they belong!!!!!!
-
I’ve been an Islander fan since 2000, and I haven’t had all that much to cheer about. The Islanders, (Not to mention Long Island) need this project. Kate Murray, TOH, don’t be stupid!
-
Gerard, East Northport NY
YES for the Lighthouse. Its time for Long Island to stop living in NYC’s shadow. Its time for people to say they want to visit Long Island the same way they say they want to Visit NYC, Vegas, or any other hot spot. In a time when money is tight and jobs are hard to find, lets put LI on the map by giving workers jobs, and hope.
-
I’m Eddie from Queens. I’m an Islander, and for the Lighthouse!
-
I’m Eric from East Rockaway, NY and I am FOR the lighthouse. It will not only be great for the Islanders but all of nassau county.
-
my name is Kevin and i am for the lighthouse. This team is part of the history of long island and has brought our community together many times. If the TOH lets them go it would be more then a shame.
-
for please This place really needs it without the Isles long island will be so boring
-
I’m for the LH – a scaled down one at least. He’s asking for too much. Lots of benifits to making it a destination; however, kind of tired of hearing how it’s gonna “save LI”. Both sides should just save the rhetoric and get something done!!
-
Jeffrey Frenger, Brentwood, NY
I am 100% in favor of the Lighthouse Project. My life was forever changed when i saw the Islanders win their very first StanleY Cup Championship. Since then I have followed, loved, and lived the NY Islanders 365 days a year. This project and what it will mean to Long Island is overwhemingly important to see the future of Long Island continue to grow. This project will in no way hurt the growth of Long Island it could only help. To see the production of jobs that will be created and the need to keep a tradition alive and most of all a championship team here on Long Island is my hope. I need this team to stay here we as Islanders need this team to stay. We may not have been in all the seats in the NVMC these past few years but we have all had our hearts there watching and hoping for the old ways of winning and the desire for our ownership to but the money into the team and build us something that gives us hope,a nd now that we have that hope, please don’t take it away from me.
Keep the Islanders here on the island where islanders belong. -
Michael Nerenberg
Brooklyn (formerly Syosset)100% Islander, 100% for the Lighthouse Project. Why would anyone not be?
LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!!
-
Steve, moved away from LI; I cannot express enough how much I am FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE!!!!
-
Sarah from stony brook. I am for the LHP. It will help with jobs and LI tax revenue. It will make LI a place to be and bring in tourist and more money to the area. Please pass the LHP not just for islander fans but for Long island residents alike.
-
Nick from Bellmore,
YES. Just build it!
-
Bring on The Lighthouse!!!! loving the Isles from Jersey
-
I’m Matt from Queens, NY and Levittown, NY and I’m 100% for the Lighthouse.
Time to put Long Island and the Islanders BACK on the map.
-
i am for the lighthouse, build it. nassau Country NY
-
Former LI in Raleigh says Hell Yes to the Lighthouse
-
I am against the LightHouse project but for my beloved Islanders. Spending borrowed money in a state of debt is not viable. Creating jobs by spending money you dont have is insane.
-
I am for the Lighthouse project. Nassau County needs this, and a new Coliseum. It is so outdated it makes Nassau County look poor. Remember it’s not just a building for hockey. It’s for concerts, basketball, Ringling Brothers, Disney on Ice, College sports, Track and Field, Monster Jam, Wrestling, Boxing, Home shows, Conventions, Democratic and Republican Conventions, and of course dedicated to the Veterans of Nassau County. Build it!
-
I am a lifelong Islander fan who grew up in Glen Cove and now live in Virginia. I would be devastated if the Isles leave because of political positioning. Maybe Wang should have buddied up with Armand D’Amato! I am FOR the Lighthouse!
-
Keith M. – Garden City, NY
Yes please build it immediately. -
DieHard Isles fan and I am absolutely FOR the Lighthouse Project
Get it done!!
-
Andy from Floral Park. I am 100% for the Lighthouse Project. There are no future developers of the Nassau Hub that will exhibit this kind of investment and patience. The approval and completion of the Lighthouse is absolutely necessary if Long Island wants to be the home of ANY professional franchise, let alone the Islanders
-
I am FOR LONG ISLAND.
Therefore I must be FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE.
-
From Bellmore,
Yes to the lighthouse!
-
Ben Otto
Valatie, New YorkDitto on what #620 said. while I have moved off Long island, I have been and Islanders fan since ’72. There will not be a Islanders if they are moved out of Nassau County or off of Long Island.
Get Newsday to do some research and find some dirt on these crooked politicians so that they can be “persuaded” to move their butts and get this project started!
-
Megan from the Town of Islip.
Completely for the Lighthouse.
We need a destination place for Long Island. Ideally we can work, live, and have fun all in one spot.
As for the Isles, I see ourselves following Pittsburgh/Washington’s footsteps, and our team and our fans deserve a new (updated) home for Lord Stanley to come back to -
I am for the Lighthouse.
-
I am 100% for the project.
JT
I was a TOH resident for 30+ years before relocating to Fairfield County, Connecticut 4 years ago. I return to the TOH twice each month to visit family and friends. The area has always needed a destination that is not a shopping mall or strip mall.
-
Build the Lighthouse. Save our Islanders.
Astoria, NY
-
Rob from NYC (raised on LI)
100 % for the Lighthouse and all the potential it can bring. NO to typical LI politics and BS…….
-
The Lighthouse project would create something truly exciting for all Long Islanders. It would be something that all of us could enjoy and take pride in.I am 100% for the Lighthouse,
-
I just recently became a fan of the Islanders because my brother and father are both die hard fans. I am 21 years old and from the pictures of the project I see, if they were to build it, it would give both my friends and I an option to go meet up and spend time in the area. I live in Bayside Queens and I have no other reason to go to that area besides going with my brother to watch an Islanders game at the coliseum. The Lighthouse would make me go even when the Islanders are not playing. Please build it.
-
Steve, Islip Township.
Yes on the Lighthouse, for many reasons, jobs, economy stimulus and keeping Long Islands only major Profesional Team where it won 4 championships and belongs.
-
I am from Hewlett. I vote yes for the Lighthouse. It will bring something special to Long Island. Also it will bring much needed jobs.
-
From Seaford, NY and I am for the Islanders
-
Yes for the LightHouse.
If you build it they will come. -
Frank F from Jersey City, NJ. Isles fan since 1979.
I am FOR the Lighthouse because it is bold vision on how to change what is nothing more than a big parking lot. This isn’t another “build it and they will come” project being developed in the middle of nowhere, this is a new vision on how to develop a populated area in a way that brings options that currently aren’t there. After reading the Newsday article I am more convinced then ever that the delays in approving this project have nothing to do with the project’s good for the people and everything to do with the projects good to the leaders that need to approve it. This needs to get done.
-
Paul from Roslyn.
I am FOR the Lighthouse!!!
Tax revenue, taxpayers not paying a dime, jobs, and all the benefits of the complex by residents and tourists.
BUILD IT! -
From Bellmore.
I support the Lighthouse project and feel it is crucial to securing the future of Nassau County.
-
steve from holbrook FOR the lighthouse….i need the isles, the isles need the lighthouse
-
My name is Nick and I am a resident of the Town of Hempstead. Lets get this done and keep our Islanders where they belong. This is OUR TEAM. I AM 100% FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE!!
-
Though my allegiance is towards a different team, it was the Islanders that got me involved with hockey and the Devils. I have been to more games at the Coliseum than anywhere else, enjoyed fond memories with my friends there (Game 6 of the 2002 playoffs against the Leafs is still one of my personal favorites).
As a Long Islander whose family resides is in the general area, I wish to remain here. I love my home, but am very upset with all the behind the scenes politics that have hurt LI. While there is risk with the LHP, doing nothing is the worst option available. Jobs gained, housing, a reason for people to come (back) to LI, and keep the Islanders where they belong.
I am the LongIslandDevilsFan and I’m for the Lighthouse Project
-
TJ- FOR project- only because it saves the islanders from moving. The project itself is irresponsible to the enviornment, and an albatross that will choke itself out in its first 10 years of existance.
However, I predict Wang anounces his recinding of the project October 3rd… -
My name is Adam Kauffman from Pittsburgh, PA. I’m a huge Penguins fan but I fully support the Lighthouse project as it would keep the Isles where they belong. It hits close to home with me because we Pittsburghers nearly lost our team and it was a very scary feeling. I support the Lighthouse project, good luck Isles fans.
BUILD IT! -
Paul from Copiague and I am FOR the lighthouse for multiple reasons. A) Keep the Islanders on LONG ISLAND where they belong. B) Great Economically, creates Jobs. C) Its just a good thing for Long Island honestly. JUST BUILD IT!

I am a TOH resident, and I am FOR the Lighthouse Project.
This is a great way to usher in a new Long Island, and we need it ever so badly. I am 24 years old, and this would be one helluva way to start a new era that would make me want to stay on this Island.
Without the lighthouse and the Isles, I would be utterly frustrated with how the politics are here, enough to make me sick of this.
Even if it’s for all the wrong reasons (which I dont think it is at all), you have to get this done. It’s the perfect spot, keeps our professional sports team here, adds jobs, tax revenue, and the sorts, and adds a FLAVOR that this county and area has sorely need for a long time.

I support the Lighthouse Project for a number of reasons. First, I believe that it will provide an economic stimulus to both the town of Hempstead and Long Island. It will provide jobs, and it will bring addtional businesses to the area. In this bleak economy, this is a beacon of hope for the town of Hempstead economy and the Long Island economy.
Additionally, I happen to go the Coliseum for a number of events, but mostly, to see the Islander games. I would like to mention that everytime me and my family go to a game, we always go out to dinner at one of the local restaurants. This is a case in point of how attending an Islander game results in additional business for the local economy.
After reviewing the proposed development, I am sure that I would take the time to go to this Lighthouse Project Development because it seems to be a nice place for me and my family to spend quality time together.

I am FOR the Lighthouse. Grew up in Merrick, LI, and was there for the Dynasty days AND saw the CUP hoisted at NVMC! I SUPPORT THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT!
It is the chance for Long Island to be finally
visible on the map. And shame on TOH officials for
chewing this long-lasing gum. It is time to spit it
out with the word YES already!
LET’S GO LONG ISLAND!!! -
I am FOR the project. I grew up on LI, and love my Islanders more than anything. Please save the team.
-
I grew up on Long Island and I now have my own children. I grew up as an Islander fan as well. I love Long Island and the Islanders; they are one and the same. We should build the lighthouse. It’s not just about hockey; it is also about improving Long Island for our children and youth. We need to give them a fighting chance.
-
Sean from West Babylon.
I am FOR the Lighthouse project.
I grew up in Nassau county but moved off LI on two different occasions, moving back in 2008. I consider myself very lucky to be able to afford to move back here even though its a struggle. I’m sure there are many who cannot stay here and having an area such as the Lighthouse might just be allow people to stay. It would also be criminal for the Isles to play anywhere else! -
I’m all for this project – that area, as it stands now, has ZERO appeal. This project would change that.

I am FOR the lighthouse. I lived on Long Island for 24 years. But, like so many others I was forced off the island. I currently live in NC, but still have many friends and family on Long Island. I visit every year and the visits include going to an Islanders game. This is an amazing project and would love to see it when it’s completed. I wish they could build something like that here where I live. I know it wouldn’t destroy my country living, just like I know it won’t destroy suburbia. These are the types of projects that we need all over the country and not just Long Island. But hey it has to start somewhere, why not now?
-
Bob Goldman, CPA Plainview, I am an Islander season ticket holder and businessman and I vote yeh for Business, creating jobs and not increasing real estate taxes for the county if the Isles move NVMC becomes a loss leader for the county and the county loses sales tax and income taxes.
-
Wow, how depressing to be reminded of the political machine in action. Instead of actually serving for the greater good, the leaders only care about the power, ego and lining their own pockets- not the future of LI.
I am very much FOR the project, although not a current resident of LI, despite being born and raised. I always make it my business to drive through the Coliseum when I get back, even though the Isles might not be playing, just to show it to my kids and to revel back to another era.
The Lighthouse can be a watershed moment, instead it will a wasted moment.
-
Build the Lighthouse. I’m a big islanders since the 70s, but more importantly, I think this is good for the future of Long Island. Mike Tang, Brooklyn

My name is tony, i live in huntington. FOR FOR FOR!!! If nassau is too stupid to do this (and they seem adamant about making us all believe they are) i hope suffolk will make a huge pitch. Please please please, in my backyard (i’m looking at you garden city)!!!
The ice surface will be pretty small, but Charles can have the couch. I’ll cook breakfast every morning, we’ll watch the isles play on the patio, and go to the nassau veterans flea market on the weekends.
Thank you Charles for sticking with this and the years of (sometimes terrible) hockey. This needs to happen (and by the way, checked with the fiance: the couch offer stands).
Let’s Stay Islanders!!!

GET IT DONE!! -
To those concerned….
I am a 43 year resident of Long Island with the last 10 being here in the Town of Hempstead. I own a home in Seaford… 2 children attended public schools… And work for a major corporation headquartered also here on the island. My parents live here as do 2 of my sisters. The point here being that I have a lot vested in the “community”… And my support for The Lighthouse Project.
Understanding that there are 2 sides to every story, I am willing to pass my opinions here today based only on my true beliefs. With that, any further delay in granting approval for this project will undoubtly effect the future of the Town as well as Long Island.
What Mr Wang offers our community is a chance to grow and expand while offering the many people in our community a work experiance that has been lacking. Additionally, we as a community risk losing a sports experience that has been handed down from my father… To me… To my son and so on. I truely believe that a decision to delay any further will only bring an end to the community I hoped to provide to my children.
Please don’t make that mistake.
Sincerely,
Tim

According to Randi Marshal’s article in Newsday, Al Damatto is worried that the Lighthouse will turn Uniondale and the surrounding areas into “the sixth borough of New York City.” Has he really looked around Uniondale recently? Does it look like the typical Norman Rockwell-esque suburb that he’s trying to protect?
Anyone driving down Hempstead turnpike to the Islanders game can see the remnants of Nassau County’s Hub: boarded up storefronts and housing projects. While I can admit the proposed Lighthouse Project isn’t as quaint as the development of family-oriented Levittown after the war, but can ANYONE honestly think that Uniondale would not benefit from the jobs presented by the Lighthouse? Could the area really get any worse?
This biggest and most vocal opponents to the project are from Garden City. While zip-codes may confuse some people (Nassau Community College is listed as Garden City), trust me, those snobbish, racist, elitists don’t really live anywhere near the Coliseum. This isn’t about the Islanders; it’s about Long Islanders. Of course the rich always like the status quo.My Name is Adam B. and I own a home in the Town of Hempstead. My wife, myself, and our soon-to-be-born die hard Islander’s fan vote “Yay” on the Lighthouse.

I am FOR the Lighthouse! It will only bring good things to the area… businesses, jobs, tax revenue, a great destination – not just a parking lot and old arena that it is now. The developers have shown remarkable patience, doing whatever has been asked of them. It is time, Town of Hempstead, to give the green light for this project! -
I lived on LI for the first 40 years of my life, and loved it. I left because like many others my job left LI; I couldn’t buy the house I wanted because of the property taxes on LI and I saw no sign that things would change. If the Lighthouse doesn’t get built and the Islanders move. It will be one more reason for young people to move off the Island.
Right now what is the future for Long Island. If the ToH stops the Lighthouse project, who will step in to renovate the building. No one. The Islanders will leave, the building will fall into further disrepair and will be a symbol of the continuing decline of Long Island.
I would hope it gets approved and built because Long Island needs it.

Long Island needs to be more than just a series of beaches and a bedroom, commuter community of NYC. Which is all it is right now.

I live in Westbury with my mommy and daddy and little brother.
My daddy used to take me to the coliseum but he says its a too expensive, a dump, dirty and not a place for kids anymore.

I hope they build a new home so I can watch more games where it is safe and eat cotton candy. -

I am in favor of the Lighthouse. Leaving a crumbling parking lot and a Coliseum that will collapse in 3 or 4 years. Makes no sense.
Putting people to work during a severe recession makes total sense.
-
I live in Bellmore part of the TOH and I am for the Lighthouse Project as is. Not only for the Islanders but for what it can to for our future. I am 34 years old and am young enough to enjoy the benefits of this great project.
-
As one of the younger person living on Long Island, how can I say no to a project that will have affordable housing so I can finally move out of my parent’s house and have dreams of owning my own home? Every young person here know we can’t afford the ridiculously priced homes on the Island. Secondly, with the Jets/Giants, Mets and Yankees getting new arenas, we are due. I am for this thing. Lets build on the parking lot already.
-
I’m for any project that keeps the Islanders on Long Island. I personally would be happy with a new/redone coliseum that would make for a better game experience as well as attract big name free agents but if it takes the entire Lighthouse project to accomplish all these things, so be it.
-
Nick Albanese from Rockville Centre is FOR the project.
I am not a union worker and have never voted for a Democrat, but if we lose out on the opportunity to redevelop the coliseum area and keep the Isles I will never vote for a Republican again in Nassau county. There is no reason why second rate cities like Columbus or Charlotte can redevelop and build new arenas and we cant.

This project is the future of Long Island. Its a no brainer. Uniondale and local residents should excited that the dump which now exists in their backyard will be transformed to a modern state of the art entertaiment, resident, and commercial complex.
Guess what, traffic already sucks in that area. Go 1/2 mile north and try traveling on old country road (either direction) during rush hour. With the studies that have been performed and structural modifications to the existing infastructure, traffic can only get better.
The TOH should embrace anyone willing to put billions of dollars on the table to spend and make their town more desireable.
Who know, maybe the value of the land around the collesium will go up.

I vote for the project. The breakfast with the former Senator is the type of missing link to objections I suspected the whole time.

I am a huge Islanders fan but I am against the Lighthouse project. Long Island does not need it. This idea that Long Island will die without some sort of development like the Lighthouse is just silly. Its a sales pitch that Rechler and Wang came up with. As long as Long Island is a short commute to New York City, our communities will never die. Long Island will always be a great place to raise a family, with or without the Lighthouse. I agree that the property needs to be developed in some way, but Long Island has enough office buildings and housing. We have enough malls and shopping centers. I understand wanting our team to get a new arena, but I’m not sure why Islanders fans want to eat up everything that Wang and Rechler serve up. They are land developers. If Wang wanted a new arena and a new lease he could have already had one, but hes tryin to be a land developer. The idea that Long Island needs to be “saved” and that the mean right wingers wont let it happen is just silly. I really hope the Islanders can move to Brooklyn. An arena with a LIRR stop across the street could save this franchise. I really hope they don’t move, but letting Wang and Rechler build this project is just irresponsible. Most of Long Island agrees with me. Unfortunately, about 70% of Long Island couldn’t care less about the Islanders.
-
I grew up on long island, live in NYC and still have NYI season tickets.

I’m FOR this project, but not just b/c I’d hate to lose the Islanders, but because Long Island kind of blows. I’ve lived in a handful of places in the country, and Long Island is one of the few places that has no central urban hub.
If nothing is done with that land, Long Island will continue to lose young people to bigger cities.

Mo Martinez from Linden, New Jersey…. The LightHouse has to and should be built and not just because of the implications it has on the future of the New York Islanders. My name is Bill commonly known as Westfall in the upper section of Nassau Coliseum. Many friends say “wouldn’t it be better for you if they Isles play in Brooklyn or Queens? afterall, you live in the Hudson Valley.” I say this..The Islanders belong on Long Island. No ifs ands or buts. And I am 100% in favor of a project that will bring jobs and tax revenue to a community this is desperately needing some change. LETS GO ISLANDERS!
-
If not now – then when? If not this developer – then who? If not this project – then what? The time to decide is now and I vote to support the project.
Everyone needs to remember that the Isles are maintaining the Coliseum at this time, if they leave then that building will deteriorate to the point that won’t even be able to host a Flea Market and then the lovely people in Garden City can watch their property taxes rise !!! -

YES YES YES…..BUILD IT !!!!!!This is what you call GROWTH. We the people need to let the politians know that we are FOR the growth of our land. I go to North Carolina alot to see friends and family (I use to live in Raleigh right before the Hurricanes came into existance). When I go down there now the development of that area is fenominal. It is fresh and young, clean and new. The youth that leaves Long Island to go to colleges in some of these cities see how the rest of the US is and they don’t give LI a second look. For circumstances beyond my control (my sister was sick with Breast Cancer) I had to move back to LI from NC. I had always felt I wanted to live there for the rest of my life and was working hard to get back there. I never wanted to set my roots on Long Island. Now 15 years later (my sister has since passed on) and I am still here. Married and with my first child on the way. It kills me every day that I work my ass off and still struggle to afford to live on this old dirty Island. Where does the money go? Where do all these taxes go? They sure the hell don’t work on the roads. They don’t clean the damn parkways. I’m going to stop becuase I can go on and on about this. In closing PLEASE get this done. Not for the Islanders sike (the team means alot to me but it’s a very small reason to why I want this done), but for FUTURE of Long Island.

Let me get this staight…
Nassau has NO, ZERO, NADA money to contribute to this project…It will employ thousands, provide tax revenue for the county, state with no outlay…All that is there now is concrete…It keeps the Isles there by building it…It provides huge amount of contruction jobs in a recession…It also provides additional facilities, such as a sports complex, convention area etc. It brings in new businesses around the area…Yes, traffic an issue but since the TOH, state are all “genuises”, you would think they could have some great ideas to incorporate. It would be great to hear from the TOH about ideas that indicate approval, but address some of their concerns, not political, hear-themselves speak–
How about actually reading all the docs submitted TOH????(why does that seem to be an issue with all politicians on the local, federal level?????)
In favor!!! -

-
I am for this project, but sadly I have realized that its not going to happen. The article in newsday told me all that I needed to know. We really need political reform in this country. People like d’amato shouldnt be able to kill projects like this because they have their panties in a bundle.
-
Frank from Levittown. Yes, to the Lighthouse! Yes, to the prospect of a brighter future for Long Island!
-
Derek from Massapequa, way of NHP and able to vote in the TOH.
This project is not just about the Isles. It is about creating a place where we can go with our kids. A place we’ll be able to work. A potential home for others. The dragging of the feet on this is absolutely ridiculous. As the article states, if this idea is killed, then goodbye Nassau. Who’s going to want to do business in that spot? Who’s going to try to build anything? Red tape galore. What else could possibly go up in that area? Simon won’t let a mall or shops there. The Coli will fall apart. It’s a shame that these politicians have this much power.
I am FOR the building of the Lighthouse. There is way too much to lose if we don’t.
-
Im for the lighthouse.

Levittown, part of Town of hempstead
I am for the project. To generate jobs, tax revenue, and new hotel in the area. and to keep the only professional sports team as a recreational place for long isalnders to go to
-
Scott, Patchogue and YES to the Lighthouse. This goes beyond keeping the Islanders on Long Island and beyond just helping Nassau. Long Island needs a destination spot that brings money from off the Island, not just re-circulates what is already here. Not to mention the obvious jobs and tax money this creates. We are talking about a parking lot already surrounded by non-suburban buildings, the area would be better off with this project.
-
Bill H – live in Syosset, work in Garden City. 100% in favor of the Lighthouse Project. LI/Nassau County needs a downtown/HUB area and this project can be the centerpiece of that. If not the Lighthouse, then what? An empty parking lot? The ToH and Nassau County should be working together to build this and thinking about ways to connect it to Hofstra, Adelphi, Franklin Ave, Roosevelt Field, LIRR, etc.
-
65,000 temporary jobs. 19,000 permanent jobs. Competition in retail to provide consumers with convenience and competitive prices for merchandise. Affordable living for hundreds of people, Oh, and by the way, a state-of-the-art arena for the Islanders. What exactly is the opposition to this project?
I am FOR the Lighthouse whether in its current form or some scaled down version. This project is great not only for the Isles but for Long Island in general. The only people against it are the self-interested few who’s bottom line may be slightly affected by the project. The many shouldn’t be ignored and discarded because of the interests of the few.
-
I vote YES! – In my opinion Wang could still be trying to get this thing approved 5 years from now and before it comes to that the Islanders will move elsewhere and NVMC will become more of a scar on the land than it already is
-
Bill Ciabattoni from Valley Stream.
Definitely for the lighthouse project. Not just for the sake of the Islanders, but because Long Island really needs this.
-
Ron Vogel – live in Westchester, so both the positive and negative impacts on me are diminished, but YES – very yes – get this done.
-
Ed, born in Farmingdale, moved out of the area but come down for a game or 2 most years.
I’m for the project wholeheartedly. I have read extensively on both sides of the argument and could understand a limited number of the concerns (housing market is already a mess, traffic, etc.) but when listing the positives and negatives the key for me is that the positives are absolutes and the negatives are possibilities. The upscale arena and hotel will be significant upgrades in how many people outside the area will view Long Island. Although I think many of us overstate the importance sports has on society as a whole, if this project goes through it will be shown on ESPN and other TV outlets across the US and Canada regularly during game highlights. Sadly, many don’t realize the beauty of the Island and only hear the jokes about traffic. Look at the effect Camden Yards had on making Baltimore (BALTIMORE!!!) a respected area. The whole Inner Harbor area is gorgeous and draws fans and visitors to one of the toughest cities in America – and it started with a stadium…
-
If the TOH is not part of the solution then they are part of the problem. Stop telling us why the project is not good and tell us how it can be good.
The Politicians in the TOH all have there own self serving interests.
We the People have spoken!!!! BUILD THE LH, the future of LI depends on it. -
I am from Lynbrook and enthusiastically support this project.

I am for the Lighthouse.
For too long Long Island has been the land of “NO”. Build something besides another Lowe’s or CVS.Create the jobs, and the tax revune.Save the Islanders, save the Island. -
As a kid in the 70′s & 80′s I went to Hockey games, concerts, conventions, trade shows, cars shows, Etc all at the NVMC,( lots of great memories & full buildings )
now-adays I catch a game here an there (latest memory is two Buffalo fans in their slug sweaters peeing on the outside of the Porta-bathrooms, sometime after the bottle throwing began )
All these events pumped money into the area, now nobody comes at all. for anything, even Billy Joel avoids the place.
LET THEN BUILT IT, what’s the worst that can happen, it looks like the rest of dis-organized, unplanned long island?? -
Dooks94 (aka Dave P) from Freehold, NJ. I FULLY SUPPORT the Lighthouse Project. I know I’m not a New Yorker or an “Islander” like 99% of everyone else here on the forum but if my vote can count even though I’m from Jersey then that’s why I’m on here. LET’S GET THIS DONE- no one wants to see this proud franchise leave the area!

I’m for the Lighthouse project. Long Island needs to find ways to keep people of my age here on LI.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse. Clearly, I have some vested interests being an Islanders fan, but as a TOH resident, why not help clean up Uniondale, reinvigorate the Town, and create a tremendous amt of desperately needed short-term and long-term job opportunities. A slam dunk on every level.
-
My name is Anthony Stabile
I live in South Farmingdale NY
I am 100% FOR the Lighthouse Project
-
I vote yes. Even though I hate the Islanders and their stupid fans, a team leaving Long Island will do no good for Long Islanders. Besides, maybe I’ll go watch the Rangers beat the Islanders in a nice arena.
-
I am a former Long Islander but remain a big fan. I read this blog everyday but this is my first post. My vote is a yes.
-
Marc N., Deer Park: Absolutely for the Lighthouse Project. Aside from our Islanders, this project is exactly what Long Island needs to move into the 21st century. I have one young child and one on the way – We need to have places for them to work and live when they are young adults. It is disheartening to think that they will have to move to Atlanta, Florida, Arizona, etc to have viable job and housing opportunities as so many of my friends growing up with have. We educate our children with our tax dollars, and then see the education be used elsewhere. It needs to stop and the Lighthouse is the first step.
-
I am for the project but if Wang and Rechler have to scale it down a little to appease the ToH board, Im for that as well. The main point is that I do not want the Islanders moving off Long Island. I honestly don’t care if the play in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, or Suffolk.
-
I am from Wantagh, and I am FOR the Lighthouse Project.
-
100% for it. And dont even think about voting for Kate “The Bonehead” Murray !

Get ‘er DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FOR the Lighthouse. -
Dan M from NJ..although not a resident of the TOH or NY for that matter, I am for the Lighthouse. I go to about 10 games a year and I do some shopping and eat in the area before the games. My money would be spent elsewhere if the Islanders were to leave. I would see no reason to come to Long Island without the team or the development.

I am from Syosset, NY, and I am FOR the lighthouse project! It is the only way to keep the Islanders financially viable for Charles Wang on Long Island. -
Name is A.J. and originally from port jefferson station, now in san jose. I am for the lighthouse
The lighthouse is a great opportunity to bring displaced long islanders back to long island for work AND life. Jobs have been hemorraging from LI for years, and there is little incentive to go back. For example, a focus on sports medicine business is just what the doctor ordered, and having it as a cog of the lighthouse process shows that Rechler/Wang are not just looking at this from a bottom line money point of view, but a future generation-quality of life kind of view. Grumman is gone folks, its not coming back. Stop holding out hope for defunct defense programs to kick start beleaguered economy.
Medicine has always been a strong point for LI (stony brook hospital). Sports medicine business would be a burgeoning career on the island.
As far as the fate of the isles go, they are intertwined in the fabric of LONG ISLAND life.. not NEW YORk CITy life. The islanders have always been synonymous as Long Island’s team.
They need to stay, either in Hempstead, or come out to Suffolk county.
-
Another Nassau native for the Lighthouse.
I don’t think the TOH Board seriously grasps the degree of support for this project and the public outcry that will result if they let it die. We’re talking about tens of thousands of committed, single-issue voters.
I wonder if they will wake up to that reality in time.
-
Joe Bondi
Mahopac, NYI am for the project. It is good for LI, its good for NY. Keep the Islanders where they belong. Give Mr. Wang the repect he deserves for all he has done.
-
Paul from Westchester. Build it. And please add a little legroom to the seats as not every fan is under 5 feet tall.

Sean Croft
East Northport, NYI am FOR the Lighthouse.

Without the Lighthouse, there’s a chance the Islanders will leave NY when their lease expires. Nobody wants that. Approve the Lighthouse!

I am FOR the Lighthouse.
Oh, and to that councilman who asked how tall some of the buildings would be, you seriously ought to be ashamed of yourself.
-
Carmine Fasano Tampa, FL
I support the lighthouse because all of my family lives on Long Island and this would help them. It would also keep my favorite sports team on Long Island. I fly up a few times a year and spend money to see the Islanders. If it weren’t for the Islanders I would spend no money in TOH.
-
This is a no-brainer. Just Build It! YES YES YES for the Lighthouse. Kate Murray wake up and do what’s right.
-
For the Lighthouse Project.
Jon, Richmond, VA

From Kings Park, NY and now living in Boston, MA. This is a very important step for Long Island’s future. There are so many positives that would be brought to Nassau County, to Long Island, to Town supervisors, to the developers, to all of the elected officials, and to fans of a struggling NHL franchise.
I am FOR this project. -
Chris Matura Franklin Square LI
I support the lighthouse for all the benefits it would bring to us long islanders and most important keep our beloved isles where thy belong.
The only way to get the lhp on the way is come election day go vote against a corrupt board with personal gains on minds rather than us the people -
Mary Margraf from the Village of Malverne, NY (TOH, Nassau County). I am FOR the Lighthouse Project.

I want the Islanders in a new building but I don’t want a fake Disney World. I am for it but with exception.
-
I don’t understand what the haggling is all about. This is a no brainer more revenue $$$$$$$$ for this area and community. I thought politicians like more $$$$$$$$$$ in the coffer to spend, jobs for the area, this would be great for this community. THE ISLANDERS BELONG ON THE ISLAND TOH DON’T YOU GET IT!! JUST BUILD IT!!!! AND WATCH THE $$$$$$$ ROLL IN. WOW
II can’t believe they are arguing over this. This such a no brainer. Islander fan for 33 years. Jeff -
did u think the Islander fans that you have on here would say NOT IN FAVOR! sort of useless post.

I live in Clayton, NY(on the St.Lawrence River) I have been reading this blog from day 1 and never posted. This is def. worth a comment. I have been a Isles fan since 1977 and have never been to an Isles game. Heck, I’ve never been south of albany. If this project is built you can count on my family making the trip for a weekend to catch a game. Now you can look at it from a “tourism” point of view.
YES to lighthouse. -
I’m from East Islip, NY and i’m 100% in favor of the Lighthouse.

I am Big Boy and I am FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE
-
I don’t live on or near Long Island but have visited many times and as a fan of the NYI I feel this would bring me back to LI to watch the Isles frequently and enjoy the area around the coliseum that the Lighthouse project would create. Purely from a tourist point of view I feel it would make trips to see the Islanders much more worth while, it’s been several years since my last trip and I probably won’t be back until the experience becomes a little more enjoyable & worth my time & money.
Scott Murphy from Canada
-
Definitely build the Lighthouse Project. Need to stimulate the economy and make Long Island and Nassau County a more desirable place to live.
-
Yes. Please approve the Lighthouse Project.
-
Count me in! This is a must for Long Island..
-
Steve, raised from New Hyde Park (currently live in Chicago) I am in favor of the lighthouse project. 1) It is 100% owner financed; 2) The current coliseum and surrounding area is an embarrassment to Long Island, an antiquated structure whose time has come to either be renovated or torn down; 3) the prospect of not pushing forward with the Lighthouse project will materially affect any hope of major commercial redevelopment to the region for years to come; 4) Based on #3, this effectively means Long Island’s infrastructure and its ability to attract jobs and other resources will deteriorate to the point of wholesale economic collapse. This is more than just the New York Islanders. This is about taking pride in my home and the place I was raised. Everyone, please do what you can to make the Lighthouse a reality. Please do not let partisan politics bog this process down any further. PLEASE DO NOT LET LONG ISLAND FALL OFF A CLIFF; PLEASE SUPPORT THE LIGHTHOUSE…
-
I am from Syosset and I am most certainly FOR the LightHouse Project. Forget about the Islanders; let’s make Long Island a viable community for people of all ages.
-
I am from Huntington, NY. I am FOR the Lighthouse Project.I am an islanders fan, but i feel if you removed the islanders from this project, i would still be FOR the lighthouse. I have travelled all over the united states. Every major city or town center has a heart. a convention center. a business center. an entertainment center. there is no where on long island that competes with any of those places.
-
My name is Chris and Im from Suffolk County, not Nassau, but I am a Long Islander and I vote yes for the Lighthouse Project. The project isnt just about the Islanders, or Nassau County, or the Town of Hempstead, it’s a bout the future of Long Island. It’s time to start making Long Island a place people actually want to live and the Lighthouse Project is a step in the right direction.
-
We need to stimulate the economy and make Long Island and Nassau County a more desirable place to live and visit. Build the Lighthouse Project!
-
John F. Niemczyk, Farmingdale NY
FOR the Lighthouse so maybe my 17 year old son will be able to get a decent job and not leave LI!! -
100% for the Lighthouse project.
-
The LightHouse needs to move forward already. Sure there may be some well-documented consequences in approving such a massive project but Nassau County truly needs such a venture to promote investment into the area. Shooting down this project would set a disasterous precedent for future investors and all but guarantee yet move years of economic decline in the county. I grew up on Long Island as both a Islanders, and oddly enough a Hartford Whalers fan, and would be greatly saddened to see the same fate befall the Islanders. They deserve a far better fate and a facility that allows them to compete!
-
I will never forget what Hamerlik said when he was signed here. He said he had no idea what L.I. was. He thought it was pretty barren based on what he saw from the NVMC. He was surprised to see how nice the area really was.
This is as big a reason as any.
• The location looks more like a crack den then a desire location for entertainment (and lets face it, that is what sports is—entertainment
• The deal is owner financed. How many projects of this size and scope did not ask for tax-payer money?
• The job puts LONG ISLANDERS to work. Critical considering our financial times.
• The project eliminates the CRUSHING burden of the SMG deal which is crippling the Islanders financials. If the Isles leave, no other major sports franchise comes here….ever again. Further, the NVMC will be a real crack den since there will be no tenant. Talk about a blight on LI!
I understand traffic concerns, and environmental concerns. ToH needs to negotiate in good faith and Wang & Co. needs to be willing to scale down withing reason.
My advice to Wang & CO.: Dont EVER be called “unprepared…” The fact that that was the spin is very bad. They need to be prepared for ever contingency, every inane question, everytime they have to repeat something for the 1,000th time…they need to do it with accurate information, and appear unfazed.
Bottom line — GET IT DONE!!!
-
Yea.
-
Gary B, born & raised Long Island, currently reside in Floral Park, NY. Short & sweet – for the project.
-
I’m from Commack and much rather the team be in Suffolk County but obviously that’s not what the plan is right now. I completely support the Lighthouse Project in it’s entirety. I would love if they could include a Train-Stop/Shuttle that was convenient so that I wouldn’t have to drive as much. GO ISLES, Get Better Okposo, we need ya buddy!
-
I am from Levittown. Yes for the Lighthouse. There would be no Levittown if Ms Murary was in office in the planning and development stages of Levittow. I still live in my original Levitt house that I purchased in the early 1950s. The Lighthouse will be the greatest developmwnt for Long Island since the development of Levittown.
-
I left the ToH and LI years ago and I’m glad I did. I am for the Lighthouse for all the obvious reasons but I will tell you this….part of me wants to see him move the Isles and let the residents of LI get what they deserve. Nothing. This is your team and more importantly your future. If you let this slip through your fingers than have fun in the suburban wasteland you so richly deserve.
-
I live in Lynbrook and support the Lighthouse
-
FOR the project!!!!
-
Mike from Fort Lauderdale, yet lived in Plainview for many years. FOR. Cities across America have come to understand that there must be major hubs of destination, that both local residents and out-of-towners can appreciate and utilize. For Long Island, the Lighthouse IS that project.
-
I am from Hewlett, and i am FOR this project.
-
I am formerly from Nassau County L.I. but live in Roseland NJ. I am completely for the lighthouse. follow it every day. would be a shame if this doesnt go through. was looking to move there when it opened.
-
from Nassau County and FOR the lighthouse. For the economy, for the jobs, for the islanders, for our children, for the future of Long Island.
-
The Newsday article was very interesting, lets put politics aside and move forward(fast). The Lighthouse Project seems to be a win for all of Long Island and the state of NY.
I’m a former Town of Hempstead resident and now live in Commack. I can remember the old Commack Arena. The location is just a another windblown supermarket parking lot. Do we need that in Uniondale?
The fan base and the commUNITY is willing and able to support the project as well as the team. Residents of the Town of Hempstead should want the Lighthouse Project to go through most of all.
Build the Lighthouse and keep the Islanders, jobs, tax revenue and people on Long Island.
I’m Andy Roderick and I support the Lighthouse.
-
I’m in Regina Saskatchewan (150 miles from Saskatoon) and am FOR the lighthouse.

I am 100% behind the Lighthouse project.
-
I’d hate to see the Isles leave L.I.,it would be a shame. However, about 10-15 yrs ago(?), they knocked down the race track and built up a mega-mall, similar to what wang wants to put up here. of course it would be good for jobs (construction), but what kind of businesses are going to be there? generic america chain restaurants and such? who needs that crap, there’s plenty on the island. there’s much info we don’t know, as I don’t understand why wang won’t buy/lease land in suffolk and build there?? suffolk officials would love it, and he won’t have to deal with the snakes in nassau. more people live in suffolk now anyway, this would save them miles on their commute, keep the Isles on L.I. and piss off corrupt nassau politicians. a win-win-win… the whole reason nassau officials won’t move on this is money. wang won’t give money under table, so screw them…
FOR Wang and the Isles, AGAINST project in ASSau…
-
Ryan from Massapequa, I vote yes for this project.
-
I am 100% Pro Lighthouse with no scaling down. If it is built, I can gaurantee some of my tourism dollars will be headed to the Town of Hempstead.

I’m from Westchester County and in favor of the Lighthouse Project.

I am a TAXPAYER.–I am a resident of TOH.– and yes, I am an ISLANDER FAN. TOH, how can you sleep at night. This community, your community, the very people that trusted you to be their voice are overwhelmingly reaching out and telling you how much they want this project. The bottom line is Everyone I know would much rather look at new beautiful buildings, have jobs ceated and a true destination for our community and boost tourism. Right now we see two huge smoke stacks-with some kind of fumes coming out–AND YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT? TOH, please don’t insult the very intelligence of the people you represent. Why are you throwing small roadblocks in the way of such a overwhelmingly positive project? It is not to late to show your public you do listen to their needs. Please, lets put politics aside and vote YES!!!-We will all be better off for it.
-
Just build it. I am from Queens and currently live in Manhattan.
-
Douglas Mayer
Rockville Centre, NYI am 100% for the Lighthouse. I am 24 years old and still leave at home and work in Brooklyn. My family has had season tickets since the year they signed Yashin. I have seen the need for the LH first hand.
When I graduated from college I think I may have a total of one interview on LI and it was in Suffolk. Everything else was in the city or BK.
I love Long Island but I see how it becoming more and more likely that I will have to move. I want this project completed so young people like me won’t be forced to leave the place they grew up.
-
Timothy Wallace…Bohemia, NY
As a 22 year old recent college graduate, I will say one thing: Long Island has very little to offer career wise. I’m an accounting major who graduated with a very competitive GPA. However, I’ve been unable to land a job on Long Island. Without this option, I will be forced to leave the place I have called home for 22 years.
With that said, I am 100% for the Lighthouse project. Not only because of the LI job market, but also because I cannot think of having Long Island stripped of it’s only true sports franchise. I have many friends from college from the Hartford area and they cannot express just how depressing it was to be vacated by the Whalers. LETS NOT LET THAT HAPPEN TO US…
BUILD THE LIGHTHOUSE AND WE WILL COME….
and most importantly, LETS GO ISLANDERS -
build the damn thing so the diehard fans from the 1970′s can enjoy some respectability before they get planted 6 feet under
-
I am a life-long resident of Long Island. I live in Lynbrook, and I am definately in favor of the Lighthouse Project.
-
Yes. BUILD IT.
-
I have grown up in Bellmore and am in favor of the Lighthouse for more than just one reason. In addition to my family being devoted Islander fans and season ticket holders for 10 years, I will be attaining my MS in architectural engineering degree in March and nothing would make me happier than to be able to move back to the Island with a stronger local job market for young and hard-working recent graduates.
-
Diane from Passaic County NJ, my vote is yes for the Lighthouse and the future of Long Island.
-
Witold from Staten Island, NY
Yes, yes and yes for the Lighthouse. Of course, there is no alternative. -
For. Get it done.
-
Keith S.
Suffolk County
100% In favor of the LHP. Hoping there may be an I.T. job in the devlopment that would allow me to stop commuting to the city one day.
-
Having grown up on Long Island and moved on to greener pastures, I believe this project must be done. There is little left on the Island for younger people. Businesses are leaving, prices are too high, taxes are too high, etc. That area will turn into a vacant eyesore in a few years if nothing is done ASAP. It is amazing every time I come back seeing how many empty stores, etc there are all over the place. People need jobs, affordable housing, and entertainment to keep them there.
-
Jon from Syosset NY
After so many years of pain and strife, Long Island needs this, TOH needs this, and most of all the Islanders need this. The fans are here, we’ve been waiting….its time.
LETS GO ISLANDERS! JT = CALDER MEMORIAL TROPHY ’10
-
Eric Hoppe Hicksville NY
I am for the Lighthouse! We want a place where people are attracted to going. We need a place for the future and a place that we are proud to say thats our home of the New York Islanders.
-
Yes to the Lighthouse! Killing this project will result in more and more people moving away to areas with more affordable tax rates and a better quality of life. Why should we need to head to NYC for sports and entertainment?
-
Typically a lurker on this forum, but figured if I were ever to leave a comment, this should be the time. Am originally from Garden City, now live in Manhattan. Had always believed I’d move back to LI in time, but only if it made sense from a financial and lifestyle perspective – which sadly, at this time, it does not. The Lighthouse Project could drastically change this – for me and for scores of ohers. I truly believe this project is the first step to ensuring Long Island’s future, and I am 100% behind it.
And yes, I’d absolutely commute from NYC to Islanders games a LOT more if the Lighthouse were a reality.
-
I am for the project.
Peter
Holtsville NY -
pro lighthouse.

In nod to the pointless tactics displayed by the ToH I have founded a new, pointless lobbying group:
Transplanted Isles Fans Who Now Live In Maryland/DC/Virginia Residents FOR The Lighthouse. TIFWNLIMDCVAL, for short…
Seriously, though. How loud can non-residents’ voices be?
I want to see those jobs created for the hard working people of LI and I want the Isles to have a home which befits their rich history.
I’ve written to the ToH, posted on the website, e-mailed my support and called the ToH to leave my comments.
Is there anything else I can do?
-
Very, very for.
Give me a reason to move back to Nassau County, people.
-
Andrew Ryan Hormann, Selden, NY
I have been For this project for too long to talk about.
I am a 21 year old College student at SUNY Fredonia in Buffalo. I still make sure to get to at least 5 games a year back on the island, and have even traveled to Buffalo and Pittsburgh to support our guys in Orange an Blue.I have obviously seen both the Penguins new arena and the beautiful HSBC arena in Buffalo, and seeing them really makes people look at a team differently…sometimes with even just a little more respect.
This project will create so any job opportunities…but more importantly, It will Keep the Islanders Home!
My entire family is filled with Dedicated fans and many of us personally know the players from today back to the last playoff team and even as far back to Nystrom, Trotts, and the Cup guys.
Please please, ensure the future of Long Islands most loved sports Franchise….and the only one left.
Bring us the Lighthouse….bring us the symbol of Hope
-
YES PLEASE!
-
Tom Lee From Long Beach
I am for the LHP.
The benefits far out weigh any concerns for the Lighthouse Project. The jobs IT would create, a destination for all Long Islanders, a top notch venue, not just for hockey, but for concerts etc. If this does not go through, we will all be traveling to MSG or Newark for our entertainment. If you want people to stay on Long Island, build the Lighthouse.
-
Greg C. – Garden City, NY Yes to project as currently presented. I am comfortable with the scale down from original plan.
-
all for the Lighthouse
-
I am in FAVOR of bringing in the Lighthouse.
… Even if it means entering my vote from Canada.
-
Matt O- Middletown, New Jersey. I support the Lighthouse Project.
-
Grew up in Baldwin, NY
Live in NY, NY
Will move back to LI eventually
This project is a no brainer for LI
I vote YES.
Even if this did not impact the NY Islanders I would vote YES for this project. Create new jobs immediately, expand the tax base and attract businesses all on an unused asphalt wasteland. -
My name is Pete Mandzych…I am for the Lighthouse Project not only as an Islander fan but also as a Long Islander.
If we lose the Lighthouse Project…I predict that this will have a devastating effect on our region and for our children.
Young professionals will continue to leave and in the years to come this will also have a devastating effect on our middle class which was at the heart of Long Island’s growth during the last 60 years. The Town of Hempstead should be ashamed of themselves for their conduct and lack of vision. They just don’t get it !!! This is not just a Hempstead issue. Economic growth and stability effects all of us on Long Island. When will the Kate Murray’s and Joe Mondello’s stop playing power politics and instead of making no decision when will the time come for them to act boldly and with a sense of what is right for our future. Without action there is no future. HAVE THEY NO SHAME !!!!!! -
Joe from Kings Park, NY and I support the Lighthouse.
-
My loyalty to the Islanders has nothing to do with this project. As a REALIST, and a sensible human being, I support this plan, wholeheartedly.
-
Chris from New Hyde Park, and I support the plan.
-
Domenick Regina from NYC. YES to the Lighthouse project as currently proposed.
This is your shot TOH. Kill this project (or chop it down), and you’ll become nothing more than “drive-over country” to progressive development destinations both East and West of your precious little haven. You’ll still get all the traffic from people driving through your town, but none of the $$. Wake up before it’s too late.
P.S. – Should this thing get ever get done, I propose a street @ The Lighthouse named after Chris Botta. Ok, if not a steet, how about at least a tree, or even a fancy lamp post? lol
Thank you Chris, and best of luck in all your future endeavours.
-Dom
-
I am for the Lighthouse. Please at some point this season let there be a LIGHTHOUSE THEMED FOAM FINGER souvenir night. Mike from Locust Valley.
-
I’m Harry and from Manorville and I’m a YES to the LH. Beyond being an obsessed fan, I hope to go to Hofstra for graduate school in the next few years and the LH would make that better than I could have imagined. Also, if it gets shot down, I can’t see anybody attempting to develop this land after seeing the hell Wang &co is going through.
-
Paul Squire from Centerport
Absolutely 100% behind the Lighthouse.Beyond being the last hope for my favorite team, the Lighthouse will make Long Island a destination again. I’m going to school in Boston, and I’ve long since resigned myself to the fact that I’ll be staying away from the Island once school is done.
Maybe if property taxes weren’t ridiculous, or maybe if there were smart jobs for young people to grow into, I’d stay. But at this rate, with people stubbornly holding onto their idea of suburbia at the cost of the future, I can find little reason to stay.
I hope this project gets approved, because I want to have a reason to stay on LI. It’s my home after all.
-Paul

I am Pete. I am for the Lighthouse. We’re all Islanders!

-
Chris F from East Islip. Long Island needs the Lighthouse!!!!
-
Nelson D. from Riverhead NY-
100% YES to the Lighthouse it all it’s current proposed glory.
Not scaled down (which it probably will be).I grew up in Farmingdale a mere 8 miles from the NVMC. Spent almost 34 years in Nassau County, then moved to Riverhead in 1998 . Home prices and high taxes made Nassau impossible.
In 2000 when Mr. Wang bought the team, I was finally able to fulfill a lifelong dream and get FULL SEASON tickets which I have to this day.
I drive the 58 miles each way to the games, and spend my hard earned money in Nassau County and the TOH.
If the LH does not get approved, the TOH and Nassau County will loose out big time.Mr. Botta. Could you please forward this “poll” to the powers that be at the TOH and to Newsday?
Newsday and their “reporters” (sorry, I have to laugh) have been very inept an their reporting and increasingly negative on the LH.
Reporters like Arthur Staple need to be corrected when they outright lie in their articles concerning the Isles and the Lighthouse.
The TOH Board is a mess. Sitting through the Public meetings the past few months have opened my eyes to the reason why NOTHING gets done in the TOH or anywhere on LI for that matter.
They criticized, yet it was obvious that NONE OF THEM had read the 1000′s of pages available to them on the LH.The voters need to speak on election day and make sure that SUOZZI stays.
-
Adam Cohen. I live in the TOH and have never voted for Murray or my current councilman.
I am for the Lighthouse Project, but have one reservation. The supposed affordable housing being proposed is nowhere near what I would classify as affordable. Here or anywhere.
Also a small part of me would love to see how the Town Board has to deal with the fallout if they don’t approve the prjoect.
-
will kate murray, ToH board, et al please stop being an embarrassment to all long islanders, current and former, and just go ahead with this project? i’d love to know what else nassau co has on tap in terms of forward-thinking plans that makes wang’s idea so unsuitable. if there isn’t anything, then build the friggin’ lighthouse!
-
Lighthouse all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Islanders, NY and its fans deserve it!
-
My name is Dan Amante born and raised in North Valley Stream living in Bay Shore and I support the Lighthouse. Just build the freakin thing already

I vote FOR the project! For everything everyone voting PRO is saying. Jobs, the Islanders, NYers, Long Islanders, it’s all well deserved! GET THIS DONE!!!
-
My name is Katrina Doell. I’m from Mineola. I support the Lighthouse project.
Just Build It. -
My name is Steven from East Islip and I am FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE!!! 110% This might be one of the greatest things that ever happened to Long Island if it were to be approved. I think the Lighthouse will be the breath of fresh air the County and the Island need, and if it doesn’t happen it will have a contrasting effect. This HAS to happen in my eyes. The future of LI depends on it.
-
My name is Rikki Lombardi. I am from Locust Valley and I SUPPORT THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT.
-
just moved to LI , all for this project. Anything that will boost the economy is a must for any area , no brainer
-
D.L.
Westchester, NY
I VOTE FOR ANYTHING THAT WILL PREVENT THE ISLES FROM MOVING OUT OF NY..
-
Islanders fan from Massapequa. Stop wasting time and give the Islanders the home they deserve. JUST BUILD IT!!!!
-
For it — LI needs work and tax relief.
-
Alex Kinkead From Holbrook
Yes to the Lighthouse!
-
My name is Carlo F. I work across the street from the coliseum. I vote YES! btw Kate Murray signed my marriage license in person. I hope she doesn’t ruin that also! People encourage others to sign their name on this site. Use Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. Pass it along.
-
I am for any project which advances a community, provides jobs for people, and stimulates that regions economy.
-
Mark P. Huntington, NY. For the future, for the Islanders, for the Lighthouse.
-
Bryan from Huntington, I am 100% FOR the Lighthouse the only thing that could make it better is a stop on the LIRR….
-
Adam, originally from Melville, now in Brooklyn, hoping one day to return to “the Island.” I am FOR this project, so that Long Island can grow for young people like myself.
-
Jim from Roslyn Heights. FOR the Lighthouse project. This has gone on long enough–Get it done!!!
-
I’m from Queens, I’m also for the Light-House.
Having the Light_house and putting people back to work to be able to eat they’re daily bread is much need for many who are out of work.
So much for politicians, And who they really represent.
Let there be a LIGHT!!!
-
yes to light house anything else will not be stood for… if Ilses move out of NY i am no longer a fan as much as it kills me… too much disapointment
-
My name is Jon and I am living in Boston (formerly of Bay Shore) and I am FOR the Lighthouse!
-
Jackie from Newburgh, NY – 40 yr. old lifelong Islander fan
As I post this, the tally seems to be 902-9 in favor of the LHP.
While I won’t pretend to know all of the pros and cons of this situation, the major reason that people seem to be against it is the traffic problems it could create. Yeah, well… there’s traffic everywhere. Suck it up.
I’m 100% behind the LHP!!
-
My name is Dean from Smithtown. I am 110% FOR the project. I am a New Jersey Devils fan, and I see what an arena does for an area and a team. The area around NVMC is an absolute dump, and there is no way that the TOH can be so naive as to not see the benefits of the project to the area and Long Island. This has to be done, from somebody who has no interest in the Islanders. This is purely based on what NEEds to happen. Long Island needs this.
-
I’m from Falls Church, VA. (originally from Garden City) and I’m for The Lighthouse. Unfortunately, there are no jobs on Long Island, so I had to move to Northern VA. after college. I want the Islanders to stay and I want jobs for Long Islanders! I want the Lighthouse! (catchy…ehhh?)
-
Daryl from Southern Manitoba. I have been an Islander fan for 30 years, the Milbury years were difficult, but I made it through them. I am 100% behind the Lighthouse.
-
Mike from Nassau County
I am for progress. I am for jobs. I am for this project.
-
Doug— Sunnyside, Queens
I am completely for it!!!!!!
-
I am FOR the project. BUILD ITTTTT!!!
-
Just Build It!!!
I am 100% FOR The Lighthouse Project.
It’s long overdue, and sorely needed.
Not just for The New York Islanders, but for betterment of the immediate region, namely the Town of Hempstead, as well as all of Long Island.
In the long-term it will enable us to not only retain the Islanders, but we will also be able to retain our youth, by providing them with a future destination of residence and employment after they graduate college. It will also create a year round destination or “hub” not only for Long Islanders, but for all New Yorkers, as well as tourists. This influx will in-turn stimulate the regions economy, and ultimately provide a prosperous future for all of Long Island. Also in the (extended) short-term it will immediately benefit the area by providing over roughly 70,000 jobs during the project’s development (in addition to the new long-term employment positions that will be available upon completion), just this alone is reason enough.
There is more to this project that just simply updating the most antiquated arena in the NHL (and all of sports for that matter), and more than just simply retaining the only professional sports team on Long Island (but granted these are two key components to the plan). That’s just the starting point, more important is the subsequent development and growth to the region that this project will spawn, and the future opportunities it will attract and offer back, that net result is the final factor worth weighing and measuring before making a final decision.
With all this at stake, I’m undoubtedly:
FOR The Lighthouse Project.
FOR Long Island.
FOR Progress.
FOR BUILDING OUR FUTURE RIGHT NOW.
Let’s Not Be on the Wrong Side of History.
JUST BUILD IT!!!!
-
I am 100% for the Lighthouse. A former Long Island resident who needed to leave Long Island in order to start a family and be able to afford a home. I will be there for opening night and I will be there when and if the Lighthouse is built. Bottom line is I am prepared to move back to Long Island if this Lighthouse project moves forward.
Sincerely from Coral Springs, Florida.
-
Jay, 22, from Bellmore, TOH resident, and active voter.
For the Lighthouse Project. How can one be against the revitalization of a decrepit area of Long Island. I’m sick of driving by an ancient out-of-date arena and a concrete and asphalt sea of shame every time I drive by the Coliseum. It’s an embarrassment to ALL of Long Islanders.
In these tough times, a privately financed project that will offer tens of thousands of jobs will help many of us who are struggling to make ends meet.
We need to look towards the FUTURE, not live in the past.
-
Build it!!!
-
One way or the other JUST build it scaled down or the whole project. I’m 100% for the Lighthouse.
Lets get the shovels in the ground already.
Lets go islanders
Glen Spidle
Smithtown, NY -
Keith L.– Merrick N.Y.
just build it!!! lets go islanders -
I am for this project…as for why…Well, as much as it would be easier to get to, they are NOT the Queens Islanders, are they?
-
A 3.7 billion dollar project and Councilman Santino spent an hour badgering a traffic expert over the addition of ONE traffic light. ONE traffic light. I’m from East Meadow. I’ll deal with the ONE traffic light if it keeps me from having to drive by a weed strewn parking lot with tears in my eyes. I’m not a political person. Please don’t turn me into one. Negotiate in good faith and APPROVE the zoning changes. High taxes should not mean we must stand still. It’s just the opposite in fact and it’s high time we start demanding some bang for our buck. LI Pride not Garden city Ego. -Matthew J. Kammerer East Meadow
-
I live in Lindenhurst, and I’m self employed.
As a home owner I say build it. We need to start keeping our kids here on LI, with affordable housing.
As a business owner we need start building and creating Jobs. When the first shovel breaks ground it will have an impact on all the small local business.
From the engineer, designers, and the contractors, those business will employee all kinds of small business and those small business will start employing people.
And as an Islander fan, there isn’t any professional team who has won more 19 consecutive playoff series than the NY Islanders, and that my friends is great accomplishment, they deserve a great area to play in it’s been a long time coming..Please TOH board stop thinking of own personal gain and start thinking of your fellow man.
-
I am for the Lighthouse project. This isn’t about the NY Islanders, it is about Long Island and helping to pump some life into it’s economy. Destroying an opportunity to create jobs is not what politicians are supposed to do. The entire town of hempstead should be embarrassed with their actions.
-
whenever i go to chipotle, i see a slum…i rather see the lighthouse project
-
Blair MacGregor, northern New Jersey. Parents were Smithtown born and raised, and I still have relatives in Suffolk County.
I support the Lighthouse Project unconditionally. This process has gone on long enough. Charles has done all that’s been asked of him by all parties involved and it’s time for the project to go up. He has one of the areas premier real estate developers behind him and I have no doubt they’ll make sure to make this a world-class project and a destination spot for residents of Long Island.
NIMBYs & career politicians who live to squeeze every last breath of innovation cannot be allowed to stifle this.
Charles has done his part. Time for the TOH to step aside and let the developers build something that I’m sure will be special.
-
As a business owner, I have seen what this economy has done to Long Island. The Lighthouse project is a good thing. If I ever needed to move my business, after looking at the plans for the project, I would strongly consider moving it to the proposed area. This project will breathe some life into Nassau County.
-
Not only do saw build the lighthouse
I say build a destination that will draw people to
-
Garden City resident here.
I am a Ranger fan but would strongly miss the special rivalry that has developed between both NY teams. The lighthouse looks like a winner. No reason why it shouldn’t be built, especially if it’s not going to cost the taxpayers anything and it will be funded entirely by the developers.
-
Pete from Bethpage with property in Carle Place, and I fully SUPPORT the lighthouse project. I’m looking forward to moving there and making it my home!
-
I’m Kristen from New Hyde Park and FOR the Lighthouse

Mike from Westbury and I am for the Lighthouse. We need to get this done. It’s a no brainer.

Bryan from New Hyde Park and I’m for the lighthouse

I am for this project. It will give the Islanders a much needed new home, give people new homes, and create lots of new jobs. Its about time Long Island had a team that it was proud of and a building to support it
-
For, Four, Fore, 4
-
I am for the project for both Long Island and the Islanders.
-
Sean from Lindenhurst ,
A MUST BUILD , ONLY BETTER FOR LONG ISLANDS FUTURE !!!!!! JUST BUILD IT !!!
-
If you build it, I will come.
-
Josh from NoVA checking-in again…
What is really, really annoying about this that these are “Republicans” that are holding this up. I thought the party that I always vote for was supposed to be for free enterprise and growth. Charles Wang is barely getting any tax money for this project. It’s not a case of a billionaire owner bilking the county, the town, it’s residents, or it’s visitors out of hundreds of millions of tax dollars for an arena — like has been done in city after city.
The very idea that a true Republican can be against this makes me sick to my stomach.
-
Chris from the north shore,
Have to build it..
Build it now -
Rob from Nassau,
Yes, for the lighthouse & Long Island.
If not, vote Murray out in November -
Get it done. Save the Islanders and boost the economy on Long Island.

Lived in Nassau County my whole life, we have been promised this project since I was in High School and I am 32 now.
If the Islander leave Long Island nothing will ever be built there and it will become even more of a wastland
-
Mike Schwarz, TOH resident, (along with a family of 5), we are all for the lighthouse project.
-
ToH Tax Payer/Valley Stream
I am 100% FOR THIS PROJECT. Shame on those who sacrafice the future to try to relive the past.
Guess you have to be a connected, ex-politician to get anything done in this Town (see Al D’Amato).
-
I’m for. I don’t understand the resistance to the project. What exactly is the TOH think they’re preserving? Long Island development has been mishandled since Levittown was built after WW2. The majority of towns are text book examples of urban sprawl, lacking character or aesthetics. Why not build something unique to give Long Island an image beyond strip malls and parking lots?
-
A lighthouse shines to keep ships away from the shallows and rocks. The lighthouse project should also shine to keep cynics away from a next generation establishment and economic boon.
-
Jason from Westchester
NO to the lighthouse.
Westchester County has the #1 taxes in the county. If Nassau County gets the lighthouse project, then we might fall to #2.
-
My name is Andrew, and I SUPPORT the Lighthouse Project!
-
my name is matt and i support the lighthouse
-
Yes to the Lighthouse! Stop jerking Charles around…it is bad enough you lined your Westchester environmental consultant buddies with half a million of Charles’ money. Do something to keep that money on Long Island. Approve the Lighthouse!
-
My name is Mark. I’m in the military and I come home for two reasons: to see my family and to watch the Islanders. Once my family leaves there will be little for me to come back to if this project is not approved. I support the Lighthouse.
-
As someone who has been involved in the examination of several large and small scale public proposals for new or recycled land use projects, I stand in full support of an ultra transparent process that enables this proposal to come to be completed, in a timely process that reduces any perceved negitive impact
-
Long Island ex-patriot living in Los Angeles. Build it already!!!!
-
Sean from North Babylon, FOR IT!!!
-
I am for the project, build it already
-
ED B. from Glendale, Queens, NY
I am in favor of “The Lighthouse”. It will bring thousands of people to the community to spend their money locally thereby putting people to work. The building of this project would put peopleto work and the completion would continue to have a large impact on the community favorably and build the workforce.

Frank D from Coram; first time long time.
More important than hockey,I’m tired of having to defend my home–my island–from those who consider it second-rate. I’m tired of politicians who inflate their own value while ignoring the opinions of the majority of their constituents. I’m tired of short-sighted backroom weasels like Al D’Amato and Joe Mondello.
My island sent a man across the Atlantic solo; gave a generation the ability to own a home; put men on the Moon (and saved 3 of them on Apollo 13); and uncovered the DNA molecule, among other things. We’ve traded that for garbage barges, gun-toting Lolitas, and political corruption keeping us in the news for the last 20 years.
We need to reclaim the innovative spirit and welcome progress in order to keep our residents here on our island.
My passion for the Islanders is great, but my hope for my island is greater. I am for the Lighthouse.
PS: To the servicemen who have posted, I say thank you for your sacrifice, and God bless and protect you. -
Completely for it. Status quo just ain’t cutting it. Especially for 26 year olds like myself.
-
My name is John Norton and I live in Merrick. I am for the Lighthouse Project!

For the project…from two time zones away.
Re-energize Long Island
-
I am pro. Calmer minds need to prevail.
-
Expatriate Long Islander down in FLA:
100% for the Lighthouse project!
-
I am tired of the crooked politicians here on the Island holding the progress of Long Island back. This project is so critical for the Island and is a turning point in our future. If this is not approved we must hold these political criminals accountable for there actions(Yes you Mr. Mondello, Mr.Santino, and Mr.Murray….and Mr. D’Amato) as clearly the majority of the public wants this.
My name is Mary from Oceanside and I Fully Support the Lighthouse and the New York Islanders!
-
My name is Kevin and I am 100% for the Lighthouse Project. Full disclosure: I was born and raised on Long Island in Hempstead but left for the Navy in 1996. I currently live in Bremerton, WA. Despite the fact that I no longer live on the Island I AM an Islander. I worked security at the Colosium from 1994-96 and the place was falling apart then. Town of Hempstead: vote yes for Long Islands future.
-
21 year old college student from Garden City, currently in Providence, RI – 100% for the lighthouse and the benefits it will bring for the future of Nassau County and Long Island.
-
Paul Maz
Franklin Squarei am for the lighthouse, it will create job opportunities and keep the young people from moving elsewhere to find jobs
-
My name is Andre and I 100% support the Lighthouse project. This is the last chance to revive Long Island. It needs to and has to get done SOON.
-
I grew up in Connecticut. Currently live in Philadelphia. My friends and I have been going to Islanders games for years. Build this magnificent facility and we will come three times as much… and spend three times as much. Just get it done. Way past overdue…

NYU student from Northport. I am FOR this project.
-
Matt, SUNY ALBANY student from West Islip, NY…I’m 100% for the lighthouse…Get it done already
-
Dave from Long Beach, and YES for the Lighthouse project!!!!
-
Matt Gelish, Dix Hills. 100% FOR the Lighthouse. Lifelong Isles diehard. Being 21, too many of us are forced to have a future off LI. I want LI to continue to be my now and my future. This project is a huge step in the right direction of giving LI a boost. I don’t believe I need to state the facts, they are all there. This political garbage is downright embarrassing. Let’s build it.
-
i vote yes and the TOH has heard the reasons numerous times so i dont feel like i need to say them
-
i say yes to the lighthouse long island needs it not only for the islanders but other reasons stated many times, as a huge fan i as well as others, need this team to stay here on the island
-
A common thread I’m seeing in a lot of these posts is the large number of young families that are yearning for a long term reason to stay here. I am in that demographic as a 28 year old father of an 8 month old. I love Long Island but honestly do not know what the future on Long Island holds. I love the Islanders but that is secondary. We need a catalyst for change for the better. This county needs increased jobs, increased tax revenues, etc and this project will get it done. Worried about traffic? There is traffic everywhere already, this little project isn’t going to make it any better or worse. Please TOH, make a decision that will make LI a destination again for young families. I am the only one of my friends that I grew up with that has stayed. Everyone else has left for either NYC or LA. I am as I previously stated 100% FOR the lighthouse.
Justin
Merrick, Long Island -
I AM FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT. JUST BUILD IT!
I am twenty-one years old and reside with my father in Nassau County, N.Y. I have attended Nassau Community College where one can see the Coliseum from campus.
My father grew up here in suburbia as well as myself. He attended playoff games and met New York Islanders during their 4-year 1980′s dynasty.
I’ve been to many Islanders games. I was at the 2009 Draft Party at the Coliseum when John Tavares was picked #1 overall in the N.H.L. Entry Draft. I’ll always remember that day. I was able to stand on the coliseum floor where great athletes have brought a NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE to Long Island, the only way possible, through the only Professional Sports team on Long Island, obviously the New York Islanders. I remember meeting announcers from Islanders T.V. broadcasts there; C.J. Papa and Billy Jaffe. I remember when General Manager of the Islanders Garth Snow called out John Tavares through a live feed from Montreal to the Coliseum and I was so elated as well as many others there.
I remember meeting the legend who started the New York Islanders’ FIRST dynasty on Long Island with his overtime goal at 7:11 of Overtime to beat the Philadelphia Flyers and win the Stanley Cup Championship in 1980; Bob “Bobby” Nystrom.
Bobby Nystrom signed my jersey while we both stood on the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum floor.
I just hope that the New York Islanders that Bobby Nystrom is loyal to, I’m loyal to, my father’s loyal to, and so many are loyal to don’t become a distant piece of history for Long Island.
-
I am Aaron from Long Island, and I support this project. It will save the Islanders and totally revalitize Long Island for as long as we are on this Earth!!
-
I am Doug and I support the Lighthouse Project.
-
Will OC from Franklin Square…..
YES I support the Lighthouse Project
-
Dave Helling from Babylon, I support the Lighthouse project.
-
Chris from Massapequa, and I am FOR the Lighthouse Project. Let it be known that should the Town of Hempstead vote to block the development of a complex that will bring increased revenue, jobs, sustainable development, a model for suburbs to follow throughout the country, a new home for the New York Islanders, and the most important factor for those on and off Long Island, hope, then there will be electoral consequences. Live up to your responsibility to your town, and Long Island. Get this project done.
-
Bill from Oceanside. I am for the Lighthouse. I am a STH. How the TOH doesn’t see this as a no brainer is beyond me. I truly believe the TOH is going to approve the Lighthouse before Oct 3rd. They are going to twist it to make the TOH look like heroes.IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME.
-
LIGHTHOUSE I AM IN FAVOR
-
Get it done
-
Eric from Bayside by way of Wantagh. I am in favor of the Lighthouse.
-
Hello my name is Mark and I strongly support the Lighthouse project.
-
I am for the Lighthouse!!! I grew up, raised a family and gave blood sweat and tears to see the islanders contribute to the growing culture on Long Island. Although I reside in Port Saint Lucie Florida my roots and other immediate family reside and pay Long Island taxes. The Islanders put the Island on the map, don’t ruin it now!
-
Brooklyn Resident
I support the lighthouse project.
-
Will from Huntington. 100% FOR the Lighthouse Project. We need jobs and a reason for future generations to stay on Long Island.
-
YES SI YA Whatever it takes – get it done!!
-
Bill Austin, islanderbill on the islandermania boards and I am in favor of this project. With this project on the table the status quo will not continue. Either it gets approved and the jobs and businesses will create more revenue for Nassau county or….It will not, the Islanders will leave and Nassau will LOSE the revenue they are currently getting from the team….seems like a no-brainer to me.
-
Terry from Bellmore. Lifelong ToH resident, registered republican, lighthouse supporter. Not overly excited about the traffic, but you are either growing or dying. There’s no third direction.
-
i am a huge Islanders fan from Rockland County NY. I don’t live on the Island and would not be impacted by this project aside from losing my favorite pro sports team. Selfishly I want it passed so the team stays…. But I personally think the league should buy Wang out of his terrible lease that they talked him in to taking when he bought the team. Then they should refurbish the dump and build a very downsized version of the lighthouse. This economy is awful and this thing could make things worse…. Sorry but I am just being honest. If the residents are willing to risk it though, I sure hope they get their way…
-
My name is John and I am a homeowner in Stewart Manor. I am 25 and I vote a big YES on the Lighthouse. Nassau County needs the infrastructure, the Islanders, and more reasons for people my age to stay on the Island. The most tragic thing will be if the Islanders leave and all thats left is a concrete wasteland or worse, the retail and housing everyone fears MINUS THE TEAM!
-
Couldn’t resist after seeing the support jump to over a thousand posts.
Bryan M. from Lindenhurst.
I am FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE.
-
Greg from Setauket, I am for the Lighthouse Project – JUST BUILD IT!
-
I am for the Lighthouse. Build the thing…
-
I am totally for this project!!! It will do so much for the people of Long Island!!!
-
Gil Neves from Bridgeport CT i am 110% in favor of getting this project built!
-
This project is a win-win for everyone, county, town, residents, labor, and fans. It is a classic example of Nassau County politics. If Suozzi was against it Kate Murray probably would be for it. The county and the island will never grow with this mentality. Somehow I get the impression a different level of environmental impact study is being imposed than was for Roosevelt Field, The Source, Meadowpoint Condos, etc. Build it already!
-
Grew up in East Meadow. Currently live in So Cal and was back to the Meadow just a couple of years ago and I drove past the Colliseum and it is wretched. That whole area needs a makeover and the lighthouse is the answer. Build it already!
-
Michael from East Meadow, NY
I’m 100% for this project.
-
tony from east meadow…i am for progress and the lighthouse is progress.
-
I’m Mike from Suffolk, and I love the Islanders PLEASE don’t leave us !!!!! If Nassau wont build it send them over here.
-
Dan from East Meadow- Yes
Count me in- lets get this project moving even if the scale is a little less than Mr. Wang wants.
-
As a life-time Long Islander, I support the Lighthouse. Just Build It!!
-
I am originally from NJ, but moved to NY 4 yrs ago. I have grown to love the Islanders. I am for the Lighthouse!!

I live in Florida now, but grew up In LI. I come back to visit family all the time. Nassau county/LI will not be te same without this Isles/the coliseum. I support the Lighthouse!!
-
I SUPPORT THE LIGHTHOUSE!!
-
I am for this project, and my out of town TAX DOLLARS are for this project. We need the jobs, we need this now.
-
Brian – Nassau County
I am for the project but if they need to meet in the middle to make this work I am all for it…example if the TOH went to Wang and said knock off 6 floors off each tower and we will push this through, you would have to do it…there has to be some give -
YES!!!
-
Chris Hynes
Lynbrook (Town of Hempstead)
Registered RepublicanI am in Favor of the Lighthouse
I am in favor for the jobs that can created through construction and new industries, federal money that it can be brought in to improve the infastructure. And lets be honest if the Islanders were to move, the Coliseum would only fall into further unrepair.
Also the actions and attitude of the Board has caused me to greatly question their abiliaty to govern.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse project. I grew up on the Island during the glory years and although I have lived in the Washington, D.C. area for the last 20 years, I have maintained my allegiance to the Isles. This needs to get done for the survival of the Isles and the community.
-
Babylon. I support the lighthouse project. It’s time to think progressively on Long Island, otherwise the exodus of our businesses and youth will continue
-
I live in Oyster Bay Cove. I am for the project. It will create jobs in the middle of a depression. It will create needed infrastructure, the basis for planned growth, address serious affordable housing issues, and be paid for largely with private dollars. What is there not to like?
-Harry Buck -
Once a dream, Long Island is stagnant..
I feel The Lighthouse would ENLIGHTEN Long Island at a critical time, and be a new point of reference for our family-oriented communities to identify with, and for us to engage in new positive confidence.
Please build the site for all to enjoy.Warm Regards,
SteveSyosset, NY
-
I am for the lighthouse project – this needs to get done!
-
This is a no-brainer, get it done! Long Island and Nassau County need this. Give us the Lighthouse!
-
I am definitely FOR the lighthouse. i have a 3 month old child live 4 minutes from the future lighthouse and want my son to be able to grow up and have a chance at affording to live on long island. without the lighthouse, this will be a tough goal for him to achieve. Everyone here should pledge to vote against every member of the TOH if the lighthouse does not happen. Maybe this might have an effect on their decision.

I am 100% for the lighthouse project. It keeps our beloved Islanders right where they are for the long-term and it stimulates jobs and economic growth on Long Island, something that for a college student like myself is very important if i want to live on the island in the future.

I live in Western Suffolk with 2 young children, one of which plays hockey. I am FOR the lighthouse. If Isles leave I will make an effort to avoid spending money in the Town of Hempstead in the future. Boycotting the NVMC will be high on my list.

My name is Scott. I own a home in Levittown (ToH). Lived on LI my whole life. I am for the Lighthouse Project. And as a “voting” constituent of the Town, I want to make it clear that in every election there are usually core issues that completely influence a voters’ decision. The only issue that will ever affect my vote for Ms. Murray and other members of the Zoning Board (if they choose to run for an elected position) from now until my end days will be their decision on this project for all of the reasons listed.
CB, I ask that you publish the names of all members of the Zoning Board so all concerned citizens can know their names and make sure that their voices are heard. BTW, went to the ToH website and couldn’t find this info myself. Thanks.

Just build it already! The coliseum and surrounding area need a facelift in the worst way!! GET IT DONE!!!!

Ken Blake, Manhattan resident and Long Island native. I am 100% FOR the Lighthouse Project. We need this for so many reasons.
-
PRO-LIGHTHOUSE —- JUST BUILD IT!!!
Private funds to build something wonderful and create jobs and tax revenue! Why is this even being questioned???? -
FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE — How many more people need to leave the Island, I sure don’t want my son to ever leave. Give him and all of our children places to work and affordable places to live. Charles Wang is doing this out of pocket to help our whole region. How can the ToH even consider stopping this???
-
100% for the Lighthouse ……. Whoever is against this must be looking for a hand-out because this is a no-brainer. BUILD IT!!!!!!!!!
-
Matt C. from Greenlawn.
Build it Baby!
-
Jason from Woodbury – small percentage of the project will be funded by taxpayer dollars. It will create both contruction and permanent jobs at a time the economy needs them most.the project will make use of an otherwise empty lot.
I would definitely vote FOR the project. -
I am a season ticket holder and life-time long islander. My son plays hockey and also loves the isles. Please TOH, dont ruin this for all of us. I SUPPORT THE LIGHTHOUSE!!
-
I am for the lighthouse!!!
No major professional sports team has left this market in over 50 years, and lets keep it that way.
That aside, it will create jobs, and tax revenue through the roof, why not build the lighthouse project. I SUPPORT IT! -
I am for the Light house project. This is a must for Long Island’s prosperity in the 21st century. Lets get this project done!!!!
-
This is something to help a floundering economy on Long Island. Stop being redicules and push this project through.
-
I am an Islip resident who feels strongly that the Long Island region needs the Lighthouse project to serve as an economic catalyst to the twenty first centry.
-
100% for the Lighthouse. I am getting married on Oct.3. so it would be a nice wedding gift….
I am not from Long Island,so maybe it’s not my place to say, but the area around the Coliseum is most definitely NOT suburban. May have been at one time, but not now. I understand the concerns of some residents about over-developing Long Island. I grew up north of the city, in Orange County – it was farm land when I was young. Moved away for 9 years, and when I came back, it was housing developments and strip malls everywhere. But even still, it is a million times more suburban than the area around NVMC. And the worst part is, there are not any jobs to support the people who live here. The Lighthouse will give TOH jobs and businesses, both in the long and short term in addition to revitalizing a rather barren area. Sorry this is so long and rambling…… -

I am FOR the Lighthouse!

Lets build! This plan is a know brainer. I can’t understand the postion of the TOH board members. They had their power trip, now its time to approve the zoning.

FOR the Lighthouse
Keep the Isles on LI. -
FOR the Lighthouse. The area can handle NCC with 25,000 students and faculty commuting every day, tens of thousands going to Roosevelt Field, it can handle the Lighthouse. This is Long Island’s LAST chance at the big leagues.
-
Lets go Lighthouse
-
Kevin M. from Nesconset NY.
I’m a Long Islander, born and raised, and I would like to remain one for years to come. The Lighthouse will bring Long Island into the spotlight it has always deserved, out of the shadow of the city. Long Island needs to be a destination, and to do that we need to revamp, rebuild, and modernize.
Furthermore, Long Island is the home of the New York Islanders, and it needs to remain that way. My hope is that one day I’ll be able to bring my kids to the Lighthouse so they can root for the Islanders and become diehard fans, just like me.
-
Port Washington, not an Islanders fan, but FOR
-
Jonathan G. from Bellmore, NY.
The Lighthouse Project is definitely something Long Island and the Islanders need. I am most definitely FOR the Lighthouse Project. Now can we get this friggin’ thing built already?
-
100% for the lighthouse project!
-
I am FOR the lighthouse. Being a commuter to Hofstra University, I am not one bit concerned about the traffic. I live within a mile or two from the brand new Tanger Outlet at the Arches, in Deer Park. When it was first proposed I feared the traffic and mass chaos that would ensue as I use the main road they declared would bring people to and from the Outlets very often. Those outlets are PACKED everyday, and I can honestly say that I have not noticed a change in traffic density at all. I think that this is the same thing that is happening with the Lighthouse project. VOTE YES, it won’t let you down… Seriously, how much traffic can it create? Its not like the whole world is going to go there everyday… At least not much more then Tanger, and Commack Road is MUCH smaller than Hempstead Trnpk or the other trnpks that feed it like the meadowbrook…

I grew up on Long Island and support the Lighthouse project.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse. I’m 21, my first game was 18 years ago, and I can’t fathom not being able to bring my children to a game one day. Let’s get it done so we can all relax and enjoy some hockey!
-
Dave Polaski from New Jersey…in full support of the Lighthouse Project.
With the passage of this proposal, it ensures the Islanders will stay…that is my #1 priority.
This project also has the potential to be the Levittown of the 21st Century…revolutionizing how suburbs are designed and executed. Instead of an outdated house-after-house, strip mall-after-strip mall plan, this would create a popular destination site for decades.
It would also create thousands of jobs and generate millions/billions in revenue, which cannot be ignored during these economic times.
Please do the right thing…and allow the Lighthouse Project to move forward.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse!
-
Tony Davenport, Bayside. I am for the project. Just approve it and stop the nonsense.
-
As a lifelong Islander fan and TOH resident I am all in favor of the Lighthouse project!
-
Absolutely in FAVOR of the project AS IT CURRENTLY IS PROPOSED! The fact that it is taking so long to aprove is a sham and politically motivated, nothing else. It is a common sense no brainer to approve this project. Do you know how many other cities and towns would bend over backwards and sell their souls to the devil to get this project in their backyard?
-
Alex from Syosset, NY
A registered Republican and requesting that the politicians stop politicizing (if that’s even possible) this important project. The Lighthouse Project needs to be build in place of that wasteland known as Nassau Coliseum. I have been a die-hard Islanders fan through thick and thin and would hate to see them relocate. -
I support the Lighthouse Project. Livelong resident of Oceanside and my wife and I are finding it tough to raise our 2 (soon to be 3) sons on Long Island. We tried to move twice to North Carolina, but, the housing market stinks so bad we couldn’t sell our house. We need this project to jumpstart the economy on Long Island. I am a former Islander season ticket holder, who supports this team to the end. But I cannot seem to justify spending that kind of money to go sit in the dump that is the coliseum now. We have seen a new Park for the Yankees, Mets, the Nets are moving to Brooklyn in a new arena. The Giants and Jets are getting new stadium in jersey, the devils got a new arena. What is this saying to the rest of the country about the tri state area? The Islanders and THEIR FANS DO NOT DESERVE to enjoy a game in a first class arena. Is that how you want the Town of Hempstead and Long Island seen. We pay ALOT of taxes to live here, and the little money we do have left over to use towards entertainment, you can at least give us a place where we wont regret spending it.
BUILD THE LIGHTHOUSE!
-
Old Bethpage
I am in favor of the Lighthouse, not just for what it will mean to the Islanders, but for what it will mean to Nassau County and Long Island. The economy needs to be revitalized and we need to have something to attract young workers just out of college. Long Island has trouble competing with other NYC suburbs when businesses are looking to relocate because we don’t have the housing and downtown type areas with shops, restaurants, and theaters within walking distance of housing. This will go a long way towards making Long Island competitive. Now, if we could only extend the LIRR to the site….
-
Don’t build it and have a giant, smoking crater in the middle of Nassau County. Sounds like a great plan. Is the ANYTHING the Republicans don’t screw up?
-
PRO-LIGHTHOUSE …. why is this even being debated when it is so good for LONG ISLAND????
-
As a former Long Islander, and a diehard *Ranger* fan …. an emphatic FOR.
Are there risks?
There are risks with every project.
Are there issues that need to be addressed?
Again, no project is foolproof.
But it’s obvious that, for the future of Nassau County, going ahead with the Lighthouse is a risk that its citizens are obviously willing to take.
The county leaders need to be bold and take a step forward, or forever be labeled as small-minded and obtuse. -
I am FOR FOR FOR FOR FOR!

TOH residentBuild the Lighthouse ! !
I am a Town of Hempstead resident with 2 children. We use the Coliseum for many other events each year besides Islander games. What do the TOH board members plan on doing with the Coliseum when the Isles move, I would think that without the biggest tenant, that the building would at some point very soon be outdated and obsolete.(probably 10 years ago if not – NOW) Why would all of the concerts and shows come the the building when they could sellout all of the other new buildings in the area. Then I will have to go to the city to see all of the events that I currently go to each year at the Coliseum. And then Nassau County and TOH will lose all of my entertainment money and taxes.

-
I am ALL FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE! I understand that change is not always easy, but this is something that will only bring a change for the better. Hempstead needs to look towards the future. TOH residents & politicians fail to realize that without the Islanders, Uniondale itself will become a vacant lot and an eyesore. Besides Nassau Coliseum and a few malls, what else is there in Uniondale? Without the Islanders, there will be NO REASON to visit there. Uniondale/Hempstead will continue it’s decline and become a place that noone will want to live and raise their children. Long Island sports will lose it’s identity and Uniondale/Hempstead will lose the only thing identifiable about itself. Adapt or disappear! LONG ISLAND NEEDS THE LIGHTHOUSE!!!

Keep Hockey in LI. The project will stand to employee a lot of people and help out LI economy for the future.
What is really the main problem with the idea?
Remember, the complex will not only be about hockey. -
I am FOR the lighthouse project
-
I opposed the lighthouse project…local office buildings are not full…there are plenty of places to shop already… Roosevelt Field and Merchants Concourse right near by…downtown Garden City…re-furbish the Coliseum…go for it…but more than that…it is just not necessary…
-
I am FOR the lighthouse. I am 1) an Islander fan, and 2) a TOH resident. For hockey, a refurbished arena and a team here to stay. For non-hockey, a place to go before the game (our options are not too impressive right now btw). A place to bring my kid ice skating outdoors. Affordable (hopefully) apartments for those younger than me. Come on, how many of us when we were in our 20s (I’m pushing 40) would have loved a place like that to live and work? This project creates a lot of jobs and makes it a destination. The mall around the corner is not a destination. How many of you have gone to a sporting event outside of NY and enjoyed the surrounding area before and after a game? Look at it, we don’t have that right now. Issues to deal with (traffic, garbage, etc.), but well worth the effort to take a chance and make put LI on the map once again.
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse Project.
Beautifully designed. Long Island NY needs a proyect like this! Sports, shopping & entertainment in a trendy modern place will bring lots of “spending” costumers… much needed for our economy…
Furthermore, the proyect will generate tons of jobs!! and tax $$$… and Uncle Sam definately likes this! -
I am totally FOR the project. Job creation, tax revenue, and not costing the tax payers in Long Island a penny. Although I am from Queens and love the Islanders, fans do visit restaurants and entertainment places after the game which would help the economy in the TOH. Lets JUST ZONE IT and JUST BUILD IT! Meet me at the Lighthouse!
-
I am FOR the Lighthouse project. Build it. By not going through with this project you are asking Long Island to fail. It is bad enough that my generation of Long Islanders are being priced out of our home towns. Do not take away the Islanders.
-
I am 100% for the Lighthouse Project. It would be a tragic step backwards for Long Island and a detriment to its future if this project is not approved. It’s time for Long Island to stop being “30 minutes from Manhattan” and start being a destination in itself. I support the Lighthouse!
-
Lets get it done! Keep the Islanders on the Island and keep Long ISlanders working in the process. It seems simple to me ?
-
I Vote YES. You need to get this done. The Islanders need to stay on Long Island.
