    uuggghhh – It’s deja’vu all over again

  2. avatar Matt says:

when is it time to look at the medical staff?

  3. avatar Patrick says:

Guess I will be drinking that last beer I said I wasn’t gonna drink. Nice game from deHaan.

  4. avatar Jsr says:

Do the Isles and Mets use the same medical staff? Ridiculous..

  5. avatar Davey D says:

Of course they did. No islander game is complete without an injury

  6. avatar NickyL says:

I know its preseason and its better to get these injuries out of the way now but its alarming a bit still. Weight was working with JT and now JT will lose all that teaching for a while. As far as the game does, De Haan looked good. Maybe he could earn a spot to start the season. He can play 9 games without starting his contract and then go back to his club team.

  7. What’s everyone concerned about?! After all this team has been through, simple “groin strains” are nothing to worry about! ha! I wish that were true . . . . Most of these guys suffer from these problems on a regular basis and we as fans can do nothing but just roll with it. At least groin strains aren’t as bad as knee injuries and hip injuries! (Too soon?) My stupid optimism will lead me to believe these injuries will lead to nothing, and Bergie and Weight will be fine. I’m looking for Bergie to have an impressive breakout season so whatever pain he’s feeling between his legs has to go away – pronto!

The countdown to the 2010 Draft Lottery begins…

  9. avatar bryan says:

How are people watching these games?

  10. avatar Strummer's Army says:

#8 Monday’s was on NHL Network, tonight was on the Isles website. I was very impressed with the quality once I put it on “full” screen. The remainder of the preseason is scheduled to broadcast there as well. I believe they are archieving the games so you can still watch it.

  11. avatar Ethan K says:

Hopefully these minor injuries will be all in the past by October 3rd.

  12. avatar UIF says:

Two games…three injuries. I guess the plus side is those young guys on the bubble like Joensuu will get more ice time to prove themselves.

  13. avatar kevin27nyi says:

    this is just rediculous

  14. avatar CJCB says:

#8 dont worry game 1 was probably the worst game of hockey i have ever seen. Complete snoozefest. Boring hardly describes it!!

  15. These Isles games are being telecast on Islanders TV from newyorkislanders.com, hopefully the rest of these exhibition games will also be televised. I think Calvin Da Haan will be a star in this league, looks to be a very good second round pick.

  16. avatar ken says:

too bad we took him in the 1st lol.

  17. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

    Seriously??

  18. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

Something isn’t right….maybe the trainers/coaches aren’t preparing these players properly for the games. Who knows?

  19. #14, your right he was 1st round.

  20. avatar Staten Islander says:

DeHaan looked good last night, looking forward to seeing more of this kid. Why WOULDN’T there be injuries? Did we forget what team we root for?

  21. avatar manhattanIsland-er says:

Just read newsday and is anyone else not really happy with Katie Strang’s coverage or is it just me?

  22. avatar battfist says:

    This sucks…

But de Hann looked good! Especially in the 2nd and 3rd period.
A guy I thought who showed flashes was Figren.

  23. avatar Justin says:

Geeze… Take it easy, it’s still pre-season…Go Isles

  24. avatar jimfromstjames says:

Strained Groin is a typical camp injury, I think. But knee’s are a different story.

  25. avatar islesfan999 says:

How about these fights. Do not get used to these every game because we have no enforcer. Go get an enforecer now.. Look at how Rechliz gets beat up. Sign Peters!

  26. avatar Jason says:

Maybe it has to due with the players own preparedness for training camp and pre-season over the summer.
Maybe they’re a couple of couch potatoes.

  27. avatar Blizzard says:

The wrecker got beat, but Mcintyer is pretty bad ass.

  28. avatar KO21 says:

    WTF!?!?

This blows big time. I hope this is an aberation but I have a bad feeling this teams training is horrible.

  29. avatar vukota says:

The wrecker held his own against a 6’7 beast. For a 21 yr old kid he is well on his way of making a name for himself. I’ll take a young kid over that punchingbag back Peters anyday of the week.

  30. avatar trippstar11 says:

I thought the Mets season was still going on, how could their training staff be with the Islanders already. Those guys are busy!

Was the medical staff addressed in the off-season?

  31. avatar Marc from Troy says:

Yeah, groin strains are typical camp injuries, but these can’t be minimized for the following reasons: 1. groin injuries were an epidemic on this team last year, and, 2. these are two of the guys who had them. Not a good sign at all, especially if they’re considered chronic injuries for these two.

  32. avatar #13 says:

    Here we go again!!

  33. avatar KO21 says:

There has to be a reason these Isles always get groin strains. What’s the problem?

  34. avatar TieDomiFan says:

    What else is new…
    Pre-Season Game #2 & Islanders Down 3 Men

Games 2 vs Players Down 3

  35. avatar TieDomiFan says:

Hey Garth , maybe you want to rethink the whole not siging Tanguay or even inviting Petr Sykora to camp..
Sykora had 25 goals last year & won a cup & this guy could not get an invite from the Islanders????? The freaking Minny Wild invited him to camp & now he will score 20+ & garth will again be left holding his jock as Taveras will be playing with Trent Hunter & Richard Park all season-Stunting the kids growth …

Also i guarantee you Clueless Garth will send Da Hann will be sent back to juniors even though he clearly is better then Myers & Hiller ….Matt Martin & Joensuu will rot in Bridgeport –while Jon Sim & Tambelini continue to get major icetime for no reason at all…..
WTF????????? LIFE OF A ISLANDER FAN

    F** ME!

  36. avatar Spartiarti - RVC says:

do any of these guys stretch before the game. Groin strains are result of improper warm up. While on ice injuries would be bad. Groin strains are not something that should be taken guys out of the line up.

I think the fitness staff of isles have to be changed. this is ridicolous.

    Assetment of last night game.
Tavares will adjust. looked very strong with puck. just held on to it to long.

DeHaan – Very impressived with his skating and control.

Sim – if he can put in 20 this year its a huge success. He is buzzing around net.

Grevais – very impressive in offensive zone and at point.

Jonseau – has a great nose to finding the net and great positioning. he has to work on shot and skating.

Lawson – Made 3 incredible saves.

Overall – despite losing game, isles looking pretty good. If add Bailey, Okposo, Hunter to last nights game and you got yourself a good team.

  37. avatar LIMBAUGH2012 says:

Haley tougher/ The coach likes Reich…

  38. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Groin issues and ice skating go hand-and-hand.Groin issues are always prevelent throughout hockey. I am not too worried…yet. FWIW, Patrick Elias is out 4-6 weeks with *groin issues*.
    Go Isles!

  39. avatar a REAL hockey fan says:

I sometimes think its in our blood to say ‘here weeee go againnnn’ with the injuries, lets stay calm guys its preseason lol

As far as the play im glad to hear that de Hann played ok, this time will need scoring all year, thats for sure

1 quickie on the fights, what fight did u watch? Seriously? The Wrecker did just fine, the scrap was actually VERY close!! Macintrye is 6’7 and way more experienced but the Wrecker did just fine! Thompson did well as well in his scrap as well – Ive said it many times its important for the Isles to stick together as a young team!!

I want alot more development for the young team, lets go Isles

  40. avatar Deadhead654 says:

You know Patric Elias has the same injury now, he’s out 4-6 weeks.

  41. avatar Mike L says:

    It’s the Bates curse

  42. avatar GD says:

the isles/devs preseason home game next weds will air on MSG +, thats the only other on TV game for the preseason..

  43. avatar Kevin says:

WTF. Groins again!!!!!!! can we get some credentials for this “medical staff” ? Hey CB interview these schmucks!

  44. avatar Robby D says:

Why is this franchise so injury prone?

  45. avatar beatlebailey says:

CB – what is the decision on PB. We need to know!

  46. avatar CM says:

Huge fan living in Edm. (throw back from the 80′s) – was at the Game yesterday. I did see Doug Weight stretching and lying on the ice in an unusual pose just before the 3rd period. Hopefully groin is minor.

Good showing overall by everyone. Liked what I saw in Tavares. Opened the game and won the first draw at center. Must have had tonnes of nerves opening and centering his first game ever. He did come close at times to scoring with some threats around the net and at first I thought he deflected Gervais’ first goal. Gervais also was very solid the whole game. DeHann turned heads, he was very surprising & I’m impressed. Nothing is better than seeing the excitement of a rookie scoring their first goal. Park stood out, grinding and giving 200% as always. Took a hard shot (shins or foot) that would put most people in the hospital and then went balls out in the next shift. Sim gave some effort too. Noticed DiBo threaten a couple of times as well, nice to see.

Overall, I think Tavares will be stellar. The team has the makings to pull off some surprises. However, the work ethic has to be there each night. I did think the Isles out-played the Oilers most of the time. Gordon has the team playing hard, they killed 4 PP’s (including 5-3) in a row. Isles hit two posts, Oilers one. Souray’s goal was lucky as the re-bound dropped right onto his stick. It’s pre-season and I don’t care if they lose. I just want to see signs of effort and performance. Looking forward to a season with promise for our future. Year 2 of the re-build. Go Isles!!!

  47. avatar Hock says:

    Nice analysis CM….thanks

  48. avatar #13 says:

Hey Bassen, Elias had groin surgery, a bit different than issues, wouldn’t you say?

  49. avatar Alex says:

i like what de Haan did last night.. i was very impressed! But i still think that he would better off playing 1 more year in the CHL! You don’t want to rush these players to the big club before they are ready!

  50. avatar big dog says:

ok its next day.. CB does point blank live or die?

  51. avatar 22isles22 says:

Quik Question- That I Probally Know the Answer to Already……..

The Isles Play The Flames 2x for their next 2 games-

And it Looks Like- The Flames Website/Online TV Will Be Showing Both Games (In-Market Only)

    THE ISLES WILL NOT!!!

Is this Simply Another Cablevision CokBlock?

    Or What?

Also Is there a way to circumvent the “In-market” clause in Calgary, and watch via their site?

Any Techies Have A Clever Work Around for Me?

Last When James Dolan, Finally Shrivels up and Dies, Does Cablevision’s Reign of Terror over my Hockey Team Finally End?

Or is there another Grinch in Line to Further Piss on My Parade?

    I’m DYING to know…..

    Thanks.

Came on here just to see if CB posted his decision about PB … guess we’ll have to wait.

    About last night’s game.

I thought the Isles as a whole were holding their own for the first 2 periods … even with a mixed veteran / rookie (jr/minor) lineup against a mostly veteran Edmonton lineup. The Oilers with some All-Star power too.

JT- He really didn’t get any good passes in the redzone. Edmonton did a good job of limiting his chances. JT will need to learn to make room for himself like KO did.

deHann – I noticed immediately his presence on the ice. Happily surprised. The bonus was his eye for the net goal. Congrats Calvin!

Joensuu – He had some impact in the game because the announcer was (struggling) saying his name alot … LOL!

Gervais – He’s night and day compared to the start of last season.

Injuries – Come On!!! The excuses are already starting. Sure … every team gets groin injuries… but something has to be said about the higher rate of groin injuries on the Isles.

Loss – Big Deal!! Exhibition … but what concerns me is … NO goals from forwards last night. Same ole problem putting the puck in the net.

Lawson – He looked very sharp on some really difficult saves. Is it safe to say we have a glut in goaltending depth?

Gordon’s System – If you guys remember last season there were lots and lots of preseason and early season injuries that were blamed on the Go Go system … was the offseason conditioning this summer enough to curb those injuries?

No CB last night – We got a good luck at Islander Country without CB’s input on the game last night … and we definitely were missing something. A noticible hole in coverage based on his insider experience … even if it was just an exhibition.

  53. avatar Brother Rat says:

Sheesh, as a fan, I’m afraid I’m going to pull a groin watching the game…

    Great summary job, CM.

  54. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

Honestly, I’m still not sold on Gordon’s ‘system’.

  55. avatar dp says:

CM #46– excellent recap. Newsday editors should compare it to the passionless prose posted by their paid writer. Without Logan, the newsday coverage is more pitiful than ever.
Re the injuries–just makes me want to cry/scream.

  56. avatar 22isles22 says:

    Thanks CM-#46

Thats the best recap avail on the worldwide web or in any format locally.

Thats not only a tribute to you, but a sad state of affairs for Islanders Media Coverage-

Very Frustrating- So Thanks Again for the Much Wanted Recap-

Tell Me Again Why I cant watch/attend/get real coverage on these games like a Ranger Fan Does?
