Reader Ricky Profit has donated an incredible $5,000 to the Point Blank blogathon to benefit Pat LaFontaine’s Companions in Courage foundation. (Yes, Ricky Profit – bless him – is his real name). Thank you so much, sir.

Ricky’s generous contribution brings the total donations to over $12,000 – in any economy an extraordinary sum for our little hockey blog. Thank you to the 120 Point Blank readers who have donated so far. As a result, Companions in Courage will be able to bring a substantial amount of mobile XBox 360 kiosks to the children’s wards at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola and Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

But while we’re almost at the finish line, we’re not stopping now. Today is the final day of the blogathon without an Islanders game to focus on. When we started on this endeavor, I believed $10,000 was a reasonable goal. With Mr. Profit’s donation, I’d like to see if we can hit between 15-20 K. My mom stepped up yesterday with $250. Thanks, Mom!

The 120 readers that have donated represent less than 1% of the hockey fans who hit Point Blank at least once a day. I’m well aware of all the circumstances that could make it a difficult time to donate, but in lieu of any funds you would ever consider giving for a pay website, please give to this cause – our only one over two hockey seasons.

Said Pat LaFontaine: “On behalf of the kids in the hospitals, I want to thank all of the Point Blank readers for your generosity and support.”

Donations of every amount will be accepted and greatly appreciated. As an alternative to the online donation link, readers can send a check to CiC Foundation, P.O. Box 768, Huntington, NY 11743 (ATT: PB). If you have any other questions or would like to make a donation different than what is requested, please send an email to Jim Johnson at jjohnson@CiC16.org

I have put in a request to donate $1,000 to this cause through a charity fund I have with Fidelity Investments. They say it should be sent out in 2-10 business days.

  2. avatar admin says:

    Wow. That’s incredible, Jim. I can’t thank you enough…CB

  3. avatar Smitty031 says:

    Just donated a little something.
    Good karma never hurt anyone.

    Thank you, Smitty! CB

  4. avatar cgs878 says:

Wow, $12698 is the total at the moment. Thank you to everyone who has considered making (or has made) a donation. I hope Pat is smiling on his way to NYC this weekend.

  5. avatar NYI-fan-in-NC says:

Just made my donation. Pat will be smiling…and so will those children. Go Pat. Go Isles. Go children.

    Thanks, NC! CB

  6. avatar rob_one_six says:

A+++ to Pat for hard work towards a great cause.
A+++ to Chris for promoting it so well.
A+++ to Islanders fans (and any non-Islanders-fan Point Blank readers) for donating.
A+++ to the Islanders for their win last night.

  7. avatar mrlbem says:

Perhaps Pat will run in blue and orange (rather than blue and gold or blue and red) to show his appreciation.

  8. avatar Fred says:

Wish I could of afforded more, but I’m sure every bit helps.

I can donate some xbox games too, is there a way to do that?

Absolutely, Fred. Please send an email to Jim Johnson. His contact info is listed in the story. Thanks…CB

  9. Thanks for doing this, CB. I am starting my first paying job after Nursing School on Monday, wish I could do more but every little bit helps. I saw kids faces when they get to play video games in a hospital settings. Absolutely amazing, bring tears to your eyes. Thanks again, CB and Pat (even though I only knew him as a Ranger).

  10. avatar Kaszycki's Krew says:

Sorry it took me a while, but every little bit helps. Best of luck to this worthy charity and Pat was a cherished member of our Islanders…… I do not acknowledge that he ever was a RAG !!

Either way – here’s hoping that we make several children happier with the fruits of our donations.

  11. avatar geduffer says:

I got mine in on behalf of myself and my wife (I took it out of my food budget, not the cat’s :) )

This would make a great plus-minus…all plusses for all of us.

  12. avatar JMG says:

Hey CB, great job helping out with this. I just donated what I could although I really wish it would have been more. Times are tough right now but wanted to contribute what I can. Every little bit helps I guess. Its a great cause. Keep up the great work!

  13. avatar Chris TMC says:

WOW Ricky- what an amazingly generous donation! That really is wonderful!

  14. avatar corey says:

  15. avatar Tom says:

This is great. It’s great see everyone get together to do something positive. Great job by Patty, Chris & of course Isles fans!

  16. avatar Kristie says:

I just did my part, it wasn’t much but it will help.
