A NOTICE TO POINT BLANK READERS
IMPORTANT: Regarding Comment Guidelines

by admin on October 2nd, 2009 at 6:42 pm

We haven’t done this in a while and we’ve added thousands of new readers since.  Please read the Comment Guidelines. For better or worse, whether some of you like it or not, Point Blank has been designed as a blog in which readers may comment on the subject at hand after each entry. This is the only way the blog works.

Point Blank is not a message board. There are dozens of Islanders message boards where fans can conveniently talk to one another all day and all night. PB is not a space for readers to start their own conversations by posting the equivalent of a blog in the Comments space. This is also not a place where readers call each other idiots or morons or -  since we all have washboard stomachs, of course – get into the personal appearances of politicians, broadcasters, writers, bloggers or other readers.

If none of the above works for you, or you are offended by it, please do not comment. If all these silly Comment Guidelines tick you off, please do not even come to the site.

If you want to ask a question or make an appeal on the Comment Guidelines, you’re welcome to do so in the Comments space in this entry. If you choose to reply disrespectfully, it will be your last one. With the season starting Saturday, it’s time to clean up the blog so everyone can read the solid contributions and feel like they can participate in at least a semi-intelligent website.

Here are the Comment Guidelines. Your choice. Thank you for hearing me out.

IMPORTANT: Regarding Comment Guidelines

  1. avatar Carmine says:

Thanks for taking the time to enforce comment guidelines CB. I think what makes this site so great is after reading your articles it’s even better to read the comments. There are a lot of great posters on here.

  2. avatar Barbara says:

    Thanks, we needed that.
    So glad you’re still here!

  3. avatar Chummlee says:

CB, I thank you for posting this. While I enjoy reading the thoughts of my fellow Islanders fans, this was much needed. Keep up the great work.

  4. avatar Jason says:

Definitely needed the reminder. There are plenty of times I don’t even bother with the comments because it gets a bit off base and there is too much to filter through.

  5. avatar Brother Rat says:

CB, you post the guidelines every few months, and every time you do I always hope you’d include a picture of Sly Stallone as Judge Dredd and quote his iconic “I am da Law!” cry. Alas, not this time….sigh….

But thank you for keeping IPB what it is, and for enforcing your few–but just–rule to keep it so. Go Isles!

  6. avatar bloody skull says:

Thanks CB, some of us have been with the site since its’ inception.

  7. avatar Pnut says:

Chris I personally would like too apologize to you as i have felt that i have done that once or twice. So Sorry to you.
Also I know of Isles fans that don’t come here (buddies of mine, friends on message boards) because they know of the garbage that a sad couple leave. You deserve respect and I am glad you are doing this.

  8. avatar Mike from Oceanside says:

I believe it was Mr. Wang who gave CB until October 2nd for certainty regarding the comments guidelines. ;)

  9. avatar Hubie McDonough says:

This is just a simple “thank you” CB. Please know that the effort you put into this site is NOT underappreciated. I’m very grateful for the hours you dedicate to not only posting blog entries (big fan of your sarcasm), but also “policing” the comments. Believe me when I say that this is one of the main reasons why I visit this site on a daily (hourly while at work) basis. Keep up the excellent work.

  10. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

CB … Happy Home Opener Eve!!

Even us IPB veterans need a reminder as much as new readers need to be aware of the guidelines … This site’s quality is a balance of your contributions along with our adherence to the guidelines…

We should be greatful that you are continuing IPB, while doing your other gig … and now more than anytime before we need to make your job easier by adhering to the guidelines so that you can keep IPB going.

    Thanks CB!!

  11. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Thanks, CB! I am sure that moderating the board is very difficult but it’s certainly a reason it is such a terrific site.
    Well Done!
    Go Isles.
PS. How did you know that I have wash-board abs?

  12. avatar Travelchic59 says:

My apologies if I missed the news, but I guess this means you will be keeping IPB up and running. This makes me very happy. I’d be lost without this site.

  13. avatar Yitz says:

Tell it like it is, CB!

  14. avatar Blizzard says:

Nothing like a reinforcement of the blog guidelines to let us all know you are still here and will be for the…..ahem foreseeable future.

  15. CB – It is always appreciated when you send out these reminders. I especially want to thank you for continuing to keep PB alive considering that you are also spending a lot of time on your “paying gig” at AOL Fanhouse. Thanks for being the best!

  16. avatar Thomas32 says:

Good post CB , Id like to say Ive gotten away on a few topics sometimes and wanted to throw an apology out to you also. Good to have the reminders sometimes! Looking foward to this season!!!

  17. avatar Dominic says:

I do believe I have recently commented on the appearance of one particular politician. I guess my frustrations got to me! Either that or perhaps the bottle of Barolo that night. Apologies CB and I ordered my set of John Basedow abs yesterday. They are on backorder but hopefully will be here in afew days…Just glad the season is starting and IPB is still here.

  18. avatar Joe in Massapeqa says:

CB, so why in the world is Nate… oh wait never mind! Good entry and way to keep the order. Happy blog season 2009-2010. 17 hours and counting… LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!

  19. avatar Frustrated Voter says:

    Chris,

I apologize for calling Kate Murray a mor*n on a number of occasions. My bad. All will be forgiven if she approves the Lighthouse. If not, then I will be looking for synonyms.

  20. avatar 19404ever says:

From my perspective, I felt the posts, in general, were fine with a few of the newly “rules” being fractured. This blog always aloud US, the fans of this brittle organization, a place to come in share, participate, and express one’s feelings in what has been an emotional rollercoaster as of late. CB, you have done a great job keeping US, the fans, informed well and are second to none. This being YOUR blog, you can run it as you see fit. I just have to express that right know I feel like I’m in grade school with 15 points to “study and remember, or else”. With all that is hanging in the air, the BAD PR moves over the summer, and the lack of promoting JT, maybe you could of dropped this in perhaps a better time setting. AGAIN, just my humble opinion from a 46 year old male Isles fan since ‘75, as my wife and many other Isles fans that I am currently in the company of, AGREE. I live in South Florida and made it here over the week, to ultimately attend the home opener and welcome in JT. I am NOT going to strap on a cheat sheet of the 15 points to my forearm, like a QB would on a Sunday, to make sure I am complient and will not get banned. Good luck to us, the FANS..

  21. avatar admin says:

I appreciate the note and understand some of what you’re saying, 1940. How the Islanders run their organization has nothing to do with my efforts to maintain a blog where readers like you cannot come on and post about whatever you please. You’ll have to ask the Islanders for satisfaction on issues that may bother you about the franchise. The Guidelines break down fairly simply: stay on topic, be respectful. Thanks…CB

  22. avatar Glen S says:

CB well said,8 hrs to the puck drop Lets
    Go ISLANDERS

  23. avatar Danielle. says:

This is one of the few sites or blogs I actually take the time to read most if not all comments. If the comment space were totally unfiltered, I have a feeling the PB experience would not be as good.
