Great game! Considering the complete dissaray of everything relating to the Islanders, some may want to choose another team, sport, seek counseling or all of the above.
Anyway...
Some random thoughts...Taveras' shot in the shoot-out was, um..well,...next time! Also was very surprised that Pittsburgh had the better legs in the third period. Dissapointing. The tying goal went off Gervais (not his fault but I also thought his overall game was pretty weak) and was lucky but Pitt controlled the 3rd period I thought...also thought Mckee should have gotten a Game Misconduct 3rd man-in on the Witt/Fedetenko hit. (Clean hit, Tank had his head up,btw) but we all know how THAT goes, (ahem). Tamby played well...played the body a lot too! Thought his shoot-out shot was predictable but i guess he did hit the post, fwiw.....Moulson could very well be up here for a while...impressive..plays physical too...Bailey looked better but still needs some muscle/nastiness...Okposo, imo, was the best player on the Isles. Wow. Decision-making with the puck, stronger on his skates, confidence.....good stuff.
Thompson won some very important face-offs late in the game and OT. Had to watch the game on Center Ice but the Pitt announcers were pretty complimentary of the Isles and were raving about the quality of the game. Amazing all of the press the Isles are getting because of Tavares (good) and the Town of Hempstead BS. (bad...and sad)
Go Isles!

And a sign of how much attention Tavares will bring to this team: I'm stuck @ work this morning, and I've got ESPN radio on in background. Every 20 minutes for the last 2 hrs (what I've heard, probably been longer) they've included only one NHL score in the radio SportsCenters. Might seem small, given there were 14 other games they've ignored, but that's exactly the point: considering there was college FB last night and NFL in a couple of hours, just getting one in there is big for ESPN. And every time they mention that "overall number one pick John Tavares had a goal and an assist in his NHL debut." Nice.

I'd like to elaborate on my previous post, as people think I'm being overly negative.
It was a nice game.
PITT: Ed Olczyk got them high draft picks, but they had to change to get to the next level. Now he's calling games in Chicago...where he belongs.
WASH: Glen Hanlon got them high draft picks but he couldn't win. Now he's in Finnland where he belongs.
NYI: Scott Gordon may have been the ONLY choice as most coaches didn't want to work with a league low payroll, a horrible prospect pool and terrible facilities.
Garth has done some good things to change what he could, but they are still putting out an AHL lineup (but they are getting there). But Gordon isn't playing a system that will be easy to UNINSTALL... so do it soon. That will accelerate the rebuild.
The only question is, who available would take the job?

I think the team played very well considering how much more talent and experience the Pens had. Goaltending was solid on both sides.

Just think how much better we'd be if Snow would spend some damn money. Gilroy would have looked great with rest of the young Isles but of course Snow has to be a cheapo and the Rangers spend, spend, spend. We are how much under the cap?

I don't know about the rest of you, but im pretty ticked at Sim for not tying up Fedotenko's stick on the tying goal. What was he doing, taking pics? Send him on his way on put a young like Schremp in there. Lets use vets who are actually useful and productive, like Hunter, Weight, and Park. Where exactly does Sim fit in?

Finally, maybe Gordon needs to make these guys skate until exhaustion. Many players looked like they couldnt even skate in the 3rd and OT. At least have all the players conditioned!

Yes, the DP thing is still a mystery, Isles Fan. There's nothing more to comment, because there's nothing more to say. Who knows why he wasn't there? Apparently Comeau feels like hell, and HE made it. Where was Rick.

I thought Nate Thompson played a really pesky game.

Bruno was brutal. Really brutal.

Fantastic game at the old barn. It was incredible to see JT's reaction to his first goal. He's still a kid, let him be excited. Bailey looked great. The defence looked "meh" and Rolosson was way more than solid in goal. I tell you if even half the games are gonna be that much fun to watch this is going to be an exciting season.
