9:35 pm - That’s three wins in a row, points in five straight.

Plus: Halloween - The Night of the Good People Getting Goals and the Shutout.

Plus: Horrible first period by Islanders, but they take a 1-0 lead on yet another under pressure cough-up by an opposing defenseman - this time Tyler Myers. Richard Park gets his first.

Plus: Jeff Tambellini gets on the ice after taking an unfortunate slashing penalty and scores a goal with a trick shot. And then scores a sniper’s goal. And then a dunk shot. Just like that, he’s tied for the team lead in goals. Good for Jeff, especially to get the hat trick with his dad in the building.

Plus: Nicely done by the coaching staff to have Tambellini on the power play in the final minutes looking for the third goal.

Minus: Perhaps Andre Agassi’s dealer was in the press box when whomever made the Three Star selections. Way to not embrace the moment. Clueless.

Plus: Between Tambellini scoring, Nate Thompson doing everything you could ask of him and Gordo getting respect, they’re going to put our Comments space out of business. C’mon, Simmer.

Plus: Josh Bailey gets his first of the season with a goalie in position and was a plus-3. It was that kind of night.

Plus: Scott Gordon’s expression in the first period when one of his players prematurely jumped over the boards for a Too Many Men penalty. No, Coach - I do not want to. The coverage is as far as I’ll take the relationship.

Plus: Secondary scoring. Moulson, Tavares and Okposo savin’ up goals for Monday.

Even: Not concerned about the 40% capacity crowd with the Yankees in the World Series and the kids out Trick or Treating. Just wondering when the Islanders executives in charge are going to start properly marketing and selling Tavares, Okposo and the team beyond Gold, Silver and Value games.

Plus: Brendan Witt getting bombed by an honest hit by Adam Mair in the third period and opting to get back into defensive position instead of having a fit.

Plus: Talk isn’t cheap for Mark Streit. He’s getting closer to form.

Plus: When the Islanders had only one win in their first ten games, no one was more responsible for keeping the room loose than Martin Biron. Congratulations on NHL win No. 200, with a shutout against an old team to boot.

Plus: With the new job, I’ve watched so much hockey this month I’m getting cross-eyed. When the Islanders’ forecheck is on, it’s wild watching other teams wet their pants. That’s what I meant this week when I said opposing coaches dread preparing for it.

Plus: Buffalo may have been flu-ridden and with a built-in excuse note from Lindy Ruff, but for the Islanders to blow out any team tonight on back-to-backs and in their home rink with so many empty seats was extremely impressive.

Plus: The Islanders have the same lineup they had before they won three in a row and went 3-0-2 in their last five. They remain short three top-six forwards and second and third defensemen. Remember that should they hit some bumps in November. Give credit where everyone is quick to give the blame - to the coaching staff.

Great win again by this team

And it isn’t cupcake teams we are beating; the Rangers, Caps and Sabres are all in the top 4 in the east; very impressive stretch.

  2. 2 jethro09

3 in a row? Who is this team and what did they do with the Islanders? All kidding aside, great three games in a row. Different positives crop up each night. They’re starting to hit a stride. Hopefully the will be able to sustain it.

  3. 3 Brett

Great game by Tambs. I’m being honest here that if the Isles work this hard the rest of the way, they WILL fight for a playoff spot.

  4. 4 will s

cb, doesn’t bailey have 2 goals?

  5. 5 Sumo Goalie

Sweet win….can we get Jeff’s dad to come to every game?

  6. 6 Julie

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I was THRILLED they chose Biron, especially since it was his 200th, rather than Tambellini, who decided to play hard since Dad was in the building. (And, yes, I’m ready for all the Tamby apologists to attack.)

  7. 7 Oren

    Plus: Tamby
Minus: Streit still not skating and making poor decisions(sorry CB, disagree that Streit looked better)
    Plus:Thompson
Minus: Tavares hits the post again, can’t put it home lately!
Plus: Isles will be in the playoff hunt till the end.

  8. 8 Frank nyc

these last three games were not cupcakes. 3 wins vs some of the top teams in the east. Congrats to Tambs, i really hope he is turning into the player everyone hoped he would be. Nice to see bailey put one in the net. Thought Biron was fantastic.
    GO ISLES!

  9. 9 beatlebailey

left a little to get home to watch the yanks and missed tamby’s hat trick..good for him hopefully he keeps this up. Leave him on the ice and let’s see what we have here. Congrats Josh Bailey!!. Keep playing your game kid. Everyone should lay off this kid and let him develop. The third line center spot is perfect for him now. Tough crowd tonight even smaller than i thought it would be. Only Minus- ice girls halloween costumes…orange hair? eh…

  10. 10 Brett

    @Julie
I can understand the lack of confidence in Tambs, but honestly you think that his dad being there helped him that much? He’s been great lately. His dad being there had no effect in him finally starting to drive to the net, and playing tougher.

  11. 11 James

#4 will s, it was his first actual goal, his only other was off of a turnover against MTL last week.

  12. 12 battfist

    Plus: Jaffe
Minus: Howie thinking the hit on KO was clean.

  13. 13 Islander

Hats off o the Penalty Killers; awesome job..Thompson, Park, etc. Goalie was also awesome. Congrats Tamby!

  14. 14 Gary P

Plus using the forth line with significan min seems to be the difference maker great to see tamby do his thing and great to see parky getting a well deserved goal

  15. 15 JoeRiverside

I had to step out, on way back in car, turned on Radio and Jaffe and Howie are talking nonsense for what seems minutes (you could game was going on in background), then they cut to comercial break without mentioning score? I figured Isle must be losing. Poor broadcasting.

  16. 16 Oren

Ditto #12, Why does Howie always find a way to be anti-Isles? Phanuef left his feet in a preseason game, nuff said.
Yeah if that was a clean hit then Colin Campbell is fair to the Islanders.

  17. 17 Julie

    @10/Brett
In my opinion, Tambellini’s effort is inconsistent. He seems to have the talent but only shows up maybe 65% of the time. Who knows, maybe he will like the feeling from tonight so much that he will put out a more consistent effort. I hope so.

  18. 18 IslesFanInBkNY

How classy of Biron, mention a Martinek sliding save in the first, while being interviewed by Deb Placy? Great game, too bad I had to stay home with my sick kid tonight.

  19. 19 Staten Islander

Plus, finding someone to put in Tamby’s jersey
Plus, Biron pitching a shutout against his former team for his 200th win
Plus,3 wins in a row against good teams
Plus, FINALLY getting some secondary scoring

  20. 20 The Mick

Fun game to watch, nice to see Tambellini and Bailey contributing. Actually nice to see anyone other than the first line contributing. The goaltending as been the difference on this little mini run. Hope they can keep it up. It’s fun to watch.

  21. 21 jonsson3

    giggety giggety

  22. 22 billy harris

like him or not, hat’s off to tambellini tonight; i henceforth take back the lousy thing i said about you last week, kid. btw, did anyone else check out that guy with the mask just over biron’s left shoulder in the first star interview with deb? it was giving me the creeps.

  23. 23 Vlad from Brooklyn

    How about that! Enjoy everyone.

  24. 24 Blizzard

Count me in as an early detractor of Gordon’s system. I’m very glad to be wrong. I wasn’t wrong on Tambellini however, the kid can score. 3 game winning streak!!!!!Agreed on Howie saying Phaneuf’s hit was clean, Jaffe disagreed. Dirty IMO.

  25. 25 doc

PLUS: Defensive stick on stick play through neutral and defensive zone, blocking shots, passes, knocking pucks down, slowing the Sabres down.

PLUS: Team effort after the 10 minute mark of 1st period.

PLUS: Tambellini. Bergenheim, Weight, HILLEN!!! BIRON!!! Sutton etc… Everyone

MINUS: Howie Rose… “Phaneuf’s hit was clean…” What???

    DOC

  26. 26 db

plus 4 twenty goal scorers on this team

    here are my predictions

    tambellini 22

    tavares 26

    okposo 24

    moulson 21

any one i missed or any one should be added what do u think

  27. 27 IslesinOside

Credit where credit is due….I blamed Gordo hard during the first 10 games…now I am givin him credit. Good work Scott keep it up. I was and still is a big Tambs fan. Always said the kid has got tons of talent just needs to find his confidence on NHL ice. I hope he found it! Congrats kid!
BTW…Rick DiPietro is alive and well and still evidently part of the Isles organization. He was signing Autographs for the kiddies on the concourse between 5 and 6 pm! He looked healthy but a little frail.

  28. 28 Eric Fichaud

Plus: The NYI are an NHL .500 at the end of October. Blown 3rd period leads notwithstanding, who wouldn’t have signed up for that?

Plus: 3 consecutive wins against 3 very good teams during a 3 games in 4 nights stretch. Very impressive.

Plus: Don Cherry giving a shout out to Matt Moulson during his Coach’s Corner segment.

Plus: As I’m typing this A-Roid was just awarded a 2-run HR thanks to video review. :-)

Even: I have no problem with Biron getting the first star. With the assistance of Martinek he kept the NYI in the game in a sluggish first period. That said, the first star could easily have gone to the other JT. :-)

Minus: The attendance for tonight’s game. I realize it’s Halloween and the NYY are in the World Series, but what about that alleged spike in season ticket and partial plan packages after Tavares was drafted? Am I missing something?

Minus: The expression on DiPietro’s face as he was signing autographs in the concourse of the NVMC. Did anyone else watching on TV notice that?

Minus: Glen Healey dissing the NYI with a stupid remark while discussing the NHLPA troubles during the Hotstove segment.

  29. 29 stephen

Nice win, no doubt. Weight and Frans coming back solidified the forward lines for this rebuilding team.

Regards to Gordo…I LOVE his go-go system, but I think he has flaws. His insistance on keeping Wrecker in the lineup to the detriment of the team was a head scratcher..Didn’t like breaking up our only 2 forwards at the time…don’t think we’re the best conditioned team(4 lines helps)…and I’d like to see the team adjust to situations a little better..just to name a few. That said, lets go out and get a #2 and #3 d man.

  30. 30 Joseph

    Plus - 3 In a row

    Minus - Sparkey

  31. 31 dalcy

Witt is being used properly. Sutton is playing very well. Jack Hillen is looking better every game. defense is playing real solid lately. coaching staff deserves credit. Lindy Ruff, nice self fulfilling prophecy. love that Ryan Miller got yanked, something about that guy i just don’t like. tambellini, is the worm beginning to turn?

  32. 32 Spinner9

In my view Tambellini has skated hard in each of his games this year and has become more aggresive in both ends of the ice. Also, right now Snow’s signing of of Hillen as a college free agent appears to be looking positive. I do find it interesting how many folks are ready to write off players if they don’t produce right away, as if some players don’t need time to adjust, develop and hone their craft. Guys like Hillen and Tambellini have been crusified on this board up til now. A week ago Thompson was a worthless bum who must have naked pictures of Gordon to insure playing time. Now he’s an invaluable member of our “all important” 4th line. Deep breaths and big picture folks.

  33. 33 dan from va beach

    WOW,
I had a kickass time out in DC last night with some of my hockey buddies (all caps fans)and also met at least 15-20 awesome isles fans from around the country, all of which (i think) said they read IPB! and then tonight game! this is starting to feel fun again, hopefully they can keep it going:)
    hasnizzle~

  34. 34 rob76

Plus - Tamby’s look of Relief after his Hat Trick Goal - He will sleep well tonight

Plus - No Taylor Hall References for the foreseeable future - Tavheduch was really tough on us last year - its nice to root for wins.

Plus - The last two games Go-Go’s System has led to Turnovers that directly led to goals

Minus - After the Coliseum filled up on June 26th and rejoiced at drafting JT - i would have thought that attendance would be higher to see our new star in the first month of the season

  35. 35 The new isles gm

As happy as I am to see the islanders winning and the rangers losing….we have to hope that they atleaat bring that effort night in and night out…..let’s not get carried away..it’s only a 3 game winning streak..I will take this streak as a confidence builder for the young group and proof that they can be successful when we get secondary scoring and solid goaltending

  36. 36 Alan

Robbie Schremp - pack your bags!!!

  37. 37 Alan

I for one admit crucifying Tambellini, because the effort wasnt there. playing with Bailey and Weight might jumpstart him. Saw that Matt Martin scored the GWG for BPT tonight. I would put him in instead of Jackman. He hits, scores and beats people up

  38. 38 pointblank rocks

i like what i see from tambellini good for him i’m happy he’s coming around witt’s gotta go this guy is so bad nice to bailey get on the sheet again good game but the sabres will be pissed next eweek i assure you

    witt and thompson get lost

  39. 39 Brian B

I find it amusing that people claim that they didn’t feel the effort was there early on from Tambellini…but that NOW all of a sudden, he’s finally scoring because he is just playing harder…Come on…hockey isn’t easy. There are so many examples of players who performed in the AHL but couldn’t in the NHL because its just a harder game…some players figure it out…some quicker than others, some longer than others…and some players never figure it out at all.

Tamby in my opinion has adjusted to the NHL level, is becoming a more mature player, and is getting more and more confident everyday.

I don’t think effort was ever the issue.

    Hopefully he keeps it up!

  40. 40 Alan

#38, Thompson has been tremendous on the penalty Kill, and Jackman is a middleweight, not a heavyweight. Interesting to see what we do with the goalie situation when Dipi comes back (sorry but that made me laugh) or by the deadline. I bet Detroit will give us a late 1 for Biron or a 2 and a prospect.

  41. 41 Strummer's Army

PLUS: Jeff Tambelleni where have you been! Maybe you’ve even come back to check this site again. WAY TO GO!

PLUS: I’ve been critical of Snow for being too patient with some players. He keeps waiting for them to play differently then they have and it goes on for years. I still think he is wrong for doing it but in the case of Tambelleni it may have been a great thing.

Plus: Botta pointing out some of the huge holes that still exist on this team in the middle of everyone’s euphoria. He’s right.

PLUS: Playing Big Audio Dynamite’s “Rush”. RIP my friend Nick Hawkins!

Minus: Playing Pink…..during a fight even!

Bailey, Nielsen, Tambelleni, Hillen coming on.

Minus: Sim is still on the PP and nightly roster. His play has improved but still needs to move on.

Minus: Comeau and Meyer sitting because Snow doesn’t want to damage the trade or waiver value of certain guys.

Minus: The three stars were the right three guys but not the right order.

Minus: Isles have laid off a lot of staff and literally replaced them with calls ups from Bridgeport. Perhaps there are a few stars developing but there are many aspects of the Isles operation that comes accross a bit “minor league”.

  42. 42 JPinVA

+ Biron was terrific. He deserved the first star because if he doesn’t have a spectacular first period I don’t think the 8K in the stands were going to pump this team into coming back from a 2 or 3 goal deficit.
+ Not a big fan of tamby for two years… but I like the guy who’s been in his jersey for 5 games. He looks a lot more confident, and he’s not getting the worst of his own body checks anymore. I can be a fan of this guy if he gives us efforts like this (until Snow trades him for a third rounder… just kidding)
    - 8k on a saturday night. In NY… really… we’re gonna make excuses for 8K at a professional sporting event. Excuses like TRICK OR TREATING…REALLY? This is one of the issues I have with POOR OWNERSHIP. But that’s what you get when your son-in-law is put in charge of ops.
+ Maybe the biggest plus. Gordon and the coaching staff are getting these guys to play to their potential, even above expectations. I know I’ve criticized him for a year now, but I haven’t seen Brendan Witt behind the opposing goal looking for the puck in five games. Their nuetral zone play has been great. I think were starting to see them attack more situationally, not automatically. I think either Gordon is starting to get it, or he’s finally getting through (I have no way of knowing)… but this is what I want to see from this team. I don’t buy the weak roster crap. THIS IS THE SAME WEAK ROSTER IT WAS WHEN THEY BLEW 2, 3, and 4 goal leads in the third. If it continues like this, and they stay in the playoff conversation I’ll be the biggest Gordo fan on here. But lets give some credit to Weight and Nielsen.
+ Even though most people on this site and in Nassau and Suffolk think he’s wrong, Howie gets some credit for calling it like he saw it. that kind of objectivity is rare in a local broadcast. I happen to agree with him… but it was borderline. the worst part of the KO hit was he never keeps his helmet on. it hasn’t fallen off since.
+ Tamby should have another good game Monday… unless Quinn gets wind of how Jeff plays when Steve’s in the stands and makes him fly home early.
+ No heavyweight beatdowns in this point streak. See! If you don’t have one there’s nobody for the other team to call out… and it goes unnoticed. And Gordon gets to roll four which is so much more important. Sutton and Jackman are handling it just fine.

  43. 43 matt

i love what this team did this week and i wouldnt change this lineup yet but when we lose a game or two i hope we give schremp another shot hes more talented then tamby let try and give him a shot hes better then sim and has a chance to be good.

  44. 44 Ice Girl Dad

Agree with you #43 Hunter may have to sit a little……Nice problem to have

  45. 45 19 ISLE in NJ 22

I think ya hit it on all the pluses CB …

    My Big Plus ….

Plus - 4 solid lines of good hard nosed hockey … and it’s paying dividends.

    Plus - Goaltending coming together.

Plus - Bailey playing solid and getting rewarded with a laser beam goal scorers goal.

Plus - Tamby putting a show on for Pops… Oh, and if he didn’t pick up the lose change on KO’s shot for the trick … a good chance that puck would of been swatted out of the crease in time.

Plus - Bergy not on the score sheet … but making stuff happen when he’s on the ice.

Plus - The coaching staff finding some chemistry with the lines.

Minus - … nahhh … not going to go there … they deserve to relish in the glow of a solid win.

  46. 46 Brian from Massapequa

CB - My picks for the stars were 3-Park, 2-Biron, 1-Tambs. I was shocked at first that they bypassed Tambs, but then I saw it was Biron’s 200th win. I think that is the reason.

  47. 47 KO21

Im happy to see tamby come thru and I hope he hasw many more!

He didn’t score a goal but Okposo is turning into a very exciting player…He’s, practically, the most noticeable player out on the ice whenever he’s out there…It is true that the marketing needs to improve, I mean darn, what is this a “Mickey Mouse Organization”, or what???

  48. 48 MikeinRichmondVA

I think Snowy deserves alot of credit for Tambs success. He refused to give up on Tambs going as far back as when Nolan was the coach. Really cool seeing smallish Tambs always going to the net, hope Comeau is watching and learning.

  49. 49 KO21

I thought that puck was going to trickle in, off of Okposos shot, but the way Tamby got his nose in there and slammed it home is something we lack, finish ability…

  50. 50 steve

this is a young team, on a roll. it is a long season, but this is fun. highs and lows. i will be interested in seeing how they react to adversity( good point CB on back to back nites, empty arena) somebody wrote patience, and big picture. agreed.
effort and improvement, and the results will take care of themselves. its nice, tonite, to be an isles fan.
CB, another solid point on witt being disciplined after the hit. wheres all the gordon critics tonite? own up fellas. own up.

  51. 51 ars9x

feelin so good about this team lately, hope these wins give us the boost we needed and we continue to improve! go isles!

  52. 52 Mark

Dan i was at the game too, we probably exchanged a fist pound at some point. Great effort tonight

  53. 53 Jason

The reality is that the Islanders have been in every game this season except for the first game in Montreal and the game in Buffalo. They’ve shown a lot of fortitude lately.

Full marks to Tambelinni and Biron tonight. Frans Nielsen has been extremely impressive, and is quickly becoming one of my favorites. With Bailey, Tavares, and Nielsen; I’d see that this team is quite alright in the middle.

All I wished for from this season is a 20 point improvement over last season. They’re well on their way.

  54. 54 Matt

i think we all know the reason for the small crowds this year is the fear and dread that this team is going to leave us if the lighthouse project doesn’t go through. this lighthouse soap- opera totally ruined Tavares first season in the league. its the reason we didn’t sign a single scorer to help him also. he would be a sure thing for the Calder if he had a proven scorer with him and a threat on a second line.

  55. 55 Merrick

Plus: Biron, holding off a first period onslaught, killing PPs, and getting some breaks with many posts. About 25 minutes plus into the game, it felt like we were being outshot 25-8 instead of 20-12.

How many games have we had a first period like this one where we led 1-0?

Plus: I was unaware of the flu excuse, but we defintely turned it on from the halfway point to the finish.

Minus: No way there was 8,000 in the crowd. Tonight could have been the smallest Islander crowd ever on a Saturday night where there wasn’t a blizzard.

Plus: Tamby winning a Blackberry for a Coampanions in Courage donor with his hat trick tonight.

    Plus: A Bailey one-timer.

Plus: A Yankee rain delay meaning I barely missed any of the game.

Plus: I even won a Nate Thompson mask!

  56. 56 TimQ

Great game, but it sucks to see so many empty seats while watching on TV. I will get there over the next few home games and I hope everyone else makes the effort as well.

  57. 57 Dorfer81

Please tell me 8k in attendance is a joke…

Also, who cares who the 3 stars are? What bearing does that have on anything?

  58. 58 James

I have said, this team is putting forth the effort, now it is up to the FANS to start showing up to the games and show the TOH why Nassau County needs the Isles!!!!

How bad does it look to moan and groan about the LH project drama but then have so many empty seats to the games?? If we don’t start getting more fans to the games the chances the TOH approves the LH project becomes very small and that is a FACT.

PS: before anyone says anything to me, I live in Florida, kinda hard for me to get to games; I am trying to see if I can get to the two games they play down here in Tampa

  59. 59 Steven

Snow is looking very good sticking with the young talent instead of bringing in average free agents. It would have been easy for Snow to give up Tamby especially since Snow did not draft or trade for him. I’m not ready to say we will content for the playoff yet but I hope the talk of firing Snow and Gordon start to fade away.

  60. 60 Hud

No minus, three in a row? Great night for the Isles.

  61. 61 okpososcores21

hell of a game by theguys in blue and orange big ups to marty biron vs his former team kept the isles in it in the first were lucky to get out of the first with a lead overall good effort besdes first period can’t really fault the guys tho they’ve played 3 games in 4 nights. overall I like what I’ve seen the last 3 games blocking a lot of shots and thwarting opponents offense in our zone great to see tamby get a hat tric hell of a game by him physically and offensively like what I’ve seen from hielsen okpos o giving the extra effort on the pk how many penalties did they kill at least 5. again like what im seeing we are seeing that 1 win against the rangers gave our guys a lot of confidence good game by all can’t complain

  62. 62 okpososcores21

I was also at the game first hat trick and shut out I’ve ever been to also my first game this season ill be going to alot more games if they can continue to show strong efforts. Money well spent.

  63. 63 Adam

    A couple of things:

    1. A lot of people are complaining about the attendance. Some of you went. However, a lot of you did not. So, if you think the attendance is bad and you love the team, how about you show up to the game? I live in Brooklyn (one block from the Verrazanno Bridge, I could be in Staten Island in two minutes). It takes me anywhere from 40 to 75 minutes to get to the game. Most nights I don’t get home until 11ish. I have the full package, but i end up going to about 35-38 home games. Why don’t you complainers grab a couple of friends and go support your team!?
    2. I would not call myself a Moulson hater, but I am definitely not a fan. He was totally absent the last two games. He is always right on top of Okposo and Tavares. The guy has been opportunistic. I’d rather have a winger with skill to play with those guys (cough…tambellini…cough).
    3. Biron showed tonight why he should be the starter. He stood on his head like Roloson. Unlike Roloson, he did not let in any garbage goals. Roloson’s rebound control is suspect and he looks shaky on easy shots. It’s time to ride Biron for a while.

  64. 64 Spartiarti-RVC

tambellini found his confidence. he looks like he has finally adjusted. he using his shot, he getting to slot. Amazing how 3 wins against some of top team in east puts it into prospective.
    Great game.
Isles and Yanks win tonight. LEts get a GIants win over philly tomorrow to complete the TRIFECA

  65. 65 Chris R

I love how this team is playing now, but lets not make a crazy move to get the 8th seed in the playoffs. If the team is 8-10 around the trade deadline, then trade sutton, weight, and biron for draft picks. If the team is playing like this now, think about how they would play next season with more experience and de haan on board.

  66. 66 Islebethere4u

I have been very critical of the coaching staff this year. Earlier in the season, there were little or no adjustments in several areas during games and it was frustrating to watch. Now it seems with this latest streak, The right players are out in certain situations, Proper use of time outs, over pursuit and passing lanes adjusted, better neutral zone play, playing the body more and odd man rushes cut way down to name a few. These are the big pluses, so kudos to the coach and his staff.
I also was critical of the 4th line. Wasn’t impressed with the addition of Nate Thompson, but it was a big addition by subtraction. His play has been the difference on that line. Mea culpa.

Big plus - Goaltending, has been really solid in spite the play in front of them.
Biggest breakout players so far this year have been Hillen, Tambellini, Thompson and Moulsen (could be another steal ala Marc Streit) I also think Schremp should be given the same chance Tambs has had for the pas 2 seasons, I think he has that much potential.

  67. 67 Mike L

Should I still be embarrassed for publicly admitting that I’m a Jeff Tambellini fan, as I was told I should be at the beginning of the season?

  68. 68 IslesFanInFlorida

Great game, cant beat the crowd with the Yanks in WS, and being a kids holiday like HALLOWEEN, but overall, was awesome game. 1st period was flat but got the lead, and then they just keep building and squashin the sabres, til Tamby poked in his 3rd goal for the TRICK of all TREATS!!!
Biron deserved the #1 star though, he was steller for his 1st win as a Islander, and 200th overall, and a shutout to bout!!

  69. 69 Restore the Pride-n-Passion NYI Hockey

    “WoW”…. Impressive NY Isles!
Especially The play of The Youth.
    Botta is spot on.
( his best summary win or loss)
Closed his anaylsis with a Matsui exclamation point if you will.
    (sorry Met fans)
The Coaching staff does deserve credit.
    Especially from me.
The American Coach will receieve my respect, from this point on win or lose!
Most of us understand & agree with Bottas post tonight.
Indeed, Much can be done in the coming year or two that will give Gordon what he needs.

Hope Mr Charles Wang agrees as well! This Hockey team is Competing!

Congratulations Jeff tambellini the guy is becoming a NHL hockey player.
His Dad Must be Proud tonight.
Jeff has gainied respect from the his peers & this fan for not giving up.
Obviously his determination is starting to pay off.
    Organization(GM) deserves credit as well.
Humility in life we all need it.
The last few games i have found mine.
No more talk of me,quitting on this team. I have waited a long time for the rebirth of this franchise.
With efforts like this I will wait a little longer!
Now Boy’s Lets Roll 4 in a row Monday against The Oil defend the Fort.
    Keep up the intensity Pride-n-Passion!

    Thanks NY Islanders!
From a Life long Hockey Guy & Fan of his childhood & adult Hometown team!

Lets Go Isles … Lets Go Islanders!!
    Lets Go C.C. & The Yanks game4.
    Second favorite team ;)

  70. 70 UIF

Fans won’t come rolling in b/c the Isles win a couple of games. If they manage to stay competitive, people will show up. If not, they won’t. Does anyone really doubt that? Every year that the team has shown that it’s competitive, the fans have come back.

  71. 71 Islander505

Plus….Merrick in post #55 calling it like it is..

    GO ISLES..

    Great game..

    From two time zones away

  72. 72 BillyBC

+ Pointblank fans giving great opinions and like all NY fans, not allowing “rebuilding” to allow us too lower our expectations other than winning hockey games. I dont think Islander players would want anything less

-The Mausoleum being consistently empty. Sorry but for the health and longetivity of the New York Islanders, this team needs a new environment, and new lease on life in Queens. The Isles cannot stay in Nassau any longer than it has too.

+ Doug Weight is and will be a great captain, keep him for another year…or 2

+ A winning streak feels great! I hope we dont have to wait till 2010 for another 3 in a row.

  73. 73 billy

    Plus- this team is rolling!!!
Plus- we looked like sharks in a feeding frenzy. look at all the good things that happen when people just start firing the puck.

Plus- He’ll break out in a big way soon, but its still just enjoyable how many chances tavs gets or gives to others every game.

Plus- Our goalies now look like they should, adding hunter makes us a legit team. don’t laugh, if we had won even just half of these ot/so losses we would have a winning record.

Plus- getting revenge on buff and caps for earlier losses

  74. 74 Simon

Plus- Weight. His presence has really stabilized the forward corp. Even though he is not getting the points, he is starting the plays that lead to goals. 3rd assist stuff.

Enough about Comeau. He is what he is, a 4th liner on a good team. And he is certainly not better than Sim or Jackman. Not even close.

  75. 75 Jim Clark

Plus Everything starting with not playing Comeau.

Minus The orange wigs on the Ice Girls were especially horrible looking.

Plus Dina on the other hand, was especially fetching as a witch.

Minus we still have a lousy goal scoring song.

  76. 76 Ethan K

Plus - 3 in a row. We’re tied with the Bruins and Flyers right now for points.

Plus - Confidence boosts for Tambellini and Bailey. Boy did they ever need it! Tambellini looked like a new player today. I always said that he has talent but needs to have some confidence and play aggressively and shoot the puck. Nifty shot through the legs there! He’s got as many goals in the last week as he did in about 60 games last year. Give him the recognition he deserves and give him his ice time. This could be a great sign of things to come.

Plus - Okposo, Tavares, Moulson. Maybe they didn’t show up on the boards as much, but watching the game I still saw them playing their usual good hockey. I liked how Okposo stood up for his teammates. Tavares still has a way to go, but I feel like he’s learning every game. A little bit of luck and he’d have 10 goals already!

Plus - Marty Biron sharp as ever, covered up every puck in front of the net.

Plus - Radek Martinek skating hard

Plus - The defense cleared the puck quickly

Plus - The 2 fights at appropriate times keeping up the energy.

Plus - We looked like a team. Everyone did their part, and they skated hard until the very end. People shifted properly, played responsibly, shot the puck well. We were an NHL team tonight.

Plus - Yankees winning in Philly, take a world series lead!

  77. 77 Ethan K

BTW, does anyone take into consideration how much money most people in Nassau County has lost in the past few years? You can’t expect more fans to show up when they have less to spend… I know that’s not the main reason we’re not selling out, but it’s a heck of a difference.

  78. 78 isles14

plus jeff tambellini getting a top 10 on espns top 10.

  79. 79 CJCB

    # 40 based on SIZE Jackman is a heavyweight! You dont base fighting classes on your ability to fight rather your body size!!! Jackman is a HORRIBLE fighter almost embarrassing, but better player than most heavies. THompson is a middleweight.

  80. 80 IslesAl

Although I like the forechecking system (if used in conjunction with other plays), I was one to blame the coach and the system for the third period collapses this year and last. There is a time to forecheck and a time to trap. I still think it is wrong to allow your opponent to motor past your blue line at 30 miles per hour with a two goal lead in the third. I still think its wrong to have four players try to pressure the puck at the blue line at the same time in the d zone. That being said, the coach has his team playing terrific right now. Great goaltending the last two games, and they have been decent in their own end. They were able to weather a strong Buffalo first period, and never looked back. The strong secondary scoring has been terrific.

  81. 81 isles316

plus- martinek minus- attendence. if the isles keep playing well people will come. especially after the world series mercifully ends

  82. 82 Mike from Oceanside

Plus - Team was perpared for the Sabre’s blue line hanging off-wing all night…even Witt.

Plus - Hillen had himself another steady game. He’s becoming a reliable d-man and I like the way he leads a breakout of the zone.

Plus - Isles in their Halloween sweaters for the warm up

Minus - No Quagmire after the first goal.

Minus - Didn’t draw a penalty for a power play until the 3rd period.

Plus - Josh stepping into that one-timer. Pure laser beam. Please shoot more Josh.

  83. 83 Eastonhockey

I’m still not a tamballini fan… I saw Mick vukota get a hat trick once. Tambellini is in his mid 20’s n never hit 20 goals. He has it in him to play 25 games in a row without scoring again. Very few players can manage that. Tambellini needs to hit 20 … Not a pro rated 20 goals… I want to see 20 goals period to consider him a NHL player on any team besides the pirates or expos of hockey.

  84. 84 Flux Capacitor

+ Gordon actually smiling on the bench when talking to Roloson. Vast difference from the usual Belechek like personality he exhibits.
+ The Isles did not wear those wretched Halloween Jerseys I saw on their website.
    - Bad attendance
    - Only about 10 trick or treaters yesterday? What is that about. Boy how times have changed…

  85. 85 JayK

After last night, we’re fourth in the league in faceoff win percentage. Last year…next to last. You think that’s having an impact?

  86. 86 IslesinOside

I know economics are tough but fans really need to get the games and fill some seats. Not sayong you have to hold season tix but filling a seat would be helpful especially if you just forget ownership and the way the team is being run and just suport the players by being there.
Mr.Dey stop your silly nonsense and just listen to your fans::
    1. Get rid of “Light it up” I counted 1 cell phone out last night, not to mention it is just completely embarrassing.
    2. Stop the nonsense and give us our goal song back. The majority of the fans want it and you are failing miserably at providing an alternative. You completely removed the Game day experience from all of us and any new fans that might come to a game.
    3. Bring back the gritty ,historic Cup years Long Island attitude edge that made and Isles game an Isles game. The coli is starting to look like a Carnival.
    4. What is with the music choices??
    5. This is Long Island we have attitudes(just read this blog)…we love our Isles(just read this blog)…we don’t want to be like every lame quiet crowd in the NHL(just read this blog)…we get excited when we win and like to let the other team know it(just read this blog).
    Mr.Dey, That is Islander Hockey…please go on vacation….for a long,long time!

  87. 87 terry

Even after 3 in a row still not a fan of GORDON,maybe i cant forget about the lack of protection for Frans last year against the devils.Sim needs to sit to give schremp a chance.I am enjoying the wins very much.I hope tambs has figured it out for the long haul

  88. 88 joe fred

Great effort tonite! I can not tell you how disapointed I am in the low attendance, I am tired of the excuses, the Yankees are playing, Halloween, etc. I think we need to ask ourseleves this, can Long Island support a NHL team anymore? Even if the LHP passes, and the team becoming an elite team in two years, because they will with, Da Hann, Hamonic, Rhett R and others joining Taveras and Okposo, can the fans afford o attend. Long Islanders can barely survive on the Island with the property taxes. I think Wang knows this as wel and if I were him would look for other options. Sorry to bum you out after a sweet victory but the low attendance sends a message to Wang, you would be a fool if you did not think it did. thoughts CB?

  89. 89 Eastonhockey

Attendance is misleading. The isles could do what panthers do… Charge much less n have better attendance. But they’d make less money. Also the isles could invest money in a NHL coach n NHL gm as opposed to giving us milbury n snow n gordan etc…then they would win more have better attendence n could charge 30 % more for tickets.
When Steinbrenner bought the yankees they were similar to islanders. Nobody went to games. Box seats were 24 dollars instead if $2,400 dollars. Steinbrenner invested $ in top players top coaches top scouts. Wang invests money in lighthouse proposals.

  90. 90 John from ATL

Great point about the faceoffs. This is really key to any success.

Big minus: The attendance; Very tough to see all those empty seats. I could see 3K or 4K but, 40%. I think the Isles need to lower the prices or at least start marketing these kids a little better.

Minus: Martinek. The reason he needed to make that save to help Biron keep the shutout was because he blew his assignment and created the problem in the first place.
CB is right this team still needs help on defense. I think Streit is a good #2. They need a legit #1 and #3.

Plus: Having a problem with too many healthy bodies at forward. Who sits when Hunter comes back? (Probable Sim) But, Schremp and Comeau need to play so we can find out if they are part of the future or not. It’s good to have Vets in the line up like Sim and Weight but is the benefit of having them play out weigh taking ice time from the prospects who need to play. It’s a tough call.

Plus: Gordon realizing he needed to send Rechlicz to Bridgeport and roll 4 lines. Spreading out the ice time has help keep the team fresh in the 3rd period. The success of the 4th line has made a huge difference.

Plus: Getting the second tier scoring from Tambellini, Bailey and Neilsen. Now Bergy needs to light it up and they need to get Hunter back, playing with Neilsen and Bergy.

  91. 91 vukota

Nobody shows because the teams hasn’t won a playoff round in 15 years. The fans will return when this team is good again. Let’s be honest a 3 game winning streak isn’t going to bring the fans all back at once. Win a playoff round or two and then you will see..

  92. 92 James

LOL you guys are talking like the Isles WILL win a playoff series before the LH project is approved? Not going to happen

This team is what we have right now and that is not going to change, it just is the way it is.

Wang invests in what? He is the reason the Islanders still exist; he has put money into this team when we spent money to go and get players that only did us well to get to 8th and a 1st round exit.

NOW we are going with the youth movement; something we should have done 5 years ago. Look at teams like Chicago, Pittsburgh, St Louis and Los Angeles. All franchises that just 5 years ago were playing to empty arenas and struggling. The Pens were even thought to be moving as well, but the franchises stood pat and rebuilt the right way; the Islanders way.

After all it is the Islanders who originally showed us all the blueprint on how to build a champion through the draft isn’t it? So we finally decide to follow our own blueprint and already in year two of that rebuild; people want to call for Wang and Snows’ head?

Sorry that argument doesn’t hold water to me.

  93. 93 Hock

Great effort overall, but a few breaks go against us, and it could have been ugly. Nevertheless, we’re seeing progress, especially in terms of secondary scorers and our goalies are delivering.

  94. 94 JimmyMac77

    Attendance is an issue.

We have some great young talent out there on the ice.

Don’t blame Wang, Snow, and Gordon.

    The interest just isn’t there.

8000 people for an NHL game is pathetic.

The team was good at the end of last year, and the beginning of this year.

    That’s a weak excuse.

Maybe there just isn’t enough fans on the Island anymore.

Hockey fans stick with their teams… they just don’t go when they’re in the Stanley Cup Final.

  95. 95 JPinVA

    + 4-4-5
    - 26-47-9
    - 30-51-14 Gordon has a better staff (One that he was at least involved in choosing, I hope). His team is healthy, and have been playing together for the better part of 13 games. It appears that either they are starting to “get it” or he is. This is not the record of a CHAMPION… but it’s getting there.
+ 8-6-1-7 tambellini is having a career week. that is awesome. But Sean Bates used to have these weeks and then we wouldn’t see him for two months.
    - 152-17-22-39 THIS is the reality of the Jeff Tambellini saga. There is no reason that with a healthy and consistent support system that Jeff can’t succeed. Like some people here I don’t think “effort” was ever a question. But like somebody said before, this game isn’t easy and it takes some longer than others. Jeff has a C- as far as a top six forward goes, but he just aced a pop quiz. He’s still a C-, maybe a C, but he is showing that he can learn.
+ Right now being an Isle fan feels a lot better than it did a week ago. But Gordon is still the guy who didn’t call a TO. He didn’t use the bomb while he watched his soldiers get slaughtered on the battlefield, and he was the captain of the ship that couldn’t navigate through third periods. Not sold yet, but Scott is showing that he CAN win. That doesn’t make him Scotty Bowman, it makes him a man with a plan, and hopefully a little smarter than he was 14 months ago.
+ If we get to Thanksgiving healthy and playing at this level Snow and Gordon will have some tough (but good) decisions to make. I’d like to see them start rotating some players into the lineup. At the deadline they may be able to deal from their strengths (slight as they may be) at G, LW and C, to help with a weakness, DEFENSE. At least it should be fun to watch.
    LET’S GO GIANTS!!!

  96. 96 UIF

This team was not good at the end of last year. They were in last place. Just because they strung together some wins at the end of the year doesn’t mean people will spend money and show up to root for the Islanders to lose some meaningless games so they can come in last place and get Tavares. It will take a legitimate run to bring people back. Not a new building, not a three-game winning streak, and not a few meaningless wins at the end of a lost season. Fans showed up in the second half of 06-07 when the team made a playoff push. Fans showed up in 2002 and 2003 when the team looked credible. There’s no reason to believe another legit run wouldn’t lead to the same. But people have been jerked around too much over the years to flock back on command or because of a single winning streak.

How was Boston’s attendance before they assembled their current team? Funny, but I don’t remember them taking as much flak for empty buildings as we do. It’s amazing what a winning season does for attendance.

  97. 97 Dan

We NEED to get more people into the barn. No excuses. With these trying times and all the talk about movement people need to go. I have been to 3 of the 5 home games(missed home opener and Carolina) and I have been very depressed about attendance. Saturday games and the Ranger game were not sellouts. Ill give a tiny pass because Yanks are playing in WS, it was Halloween and this team has done nothing in 15 years, but we have to still support this team. Lets not become the Coyotes! I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

  98. 98 mike 8

I know the economy is bad and tickets prices are high but the lack of fans inside NVMC is embarrassing. There’s no other way to put it. I don’t get why ppl on long island don’t go to games. Yes winning is big part of it but to have entire sections in the upper bowl empty is pathetic. btw, #97 there have been 7 home games to date, and ive made it to 4 of them. Chris this is a GIANT MINUS.

  99. 99 Aim

Happy with the ON ICE play BUT!!!!! Is wang trying to rid himself of what fans are left??? no media guide no programs Light it up No goal song…..NOW we have the announcer saying there is a penalty on the ice??? a stupid light show/noise meter with confetti??? chuck a puck???? 8000 for a saturday nite game. This cheap team has an AHL feel all about it GRRRR

  100. 100 Willis

Secondary scoring, a hat trick and a shut out and the big topic in comments is fan attendance??!!??

Another game that had me grinning ear to ear and I just want to thank the team and coaching staff for their efforts and wish them continued success and HEALTH. Don’t worry I’ll be patient. With you every step of the way.

  101. 101 Willis

    *From New Jersey mostly. :)

  102. 102 Aim

BTW reading some of the other comments….We can and will support an NHL team Look at 01-02. Wang came in and delivered. Then the NYI were boasting about something like 30 sellouts that year. Who wants to come now and pay these prices. All the Islanders advertise now is fun family entertainment. This is supposed to be the NHL Wang/Dey. I still go to every game but am getting so sick of all the stupid bells and whistles and kiddie games it is like the AHL at NHL prices. Long Island will come out and support this team when it sees that it is worth supporting That is not only for the on ice product but the lame ownership/staff too!!!!

  103. 103 Leviticus

Plus—the kids are looking like a team
Plus—no need for unproductive 6 minute ‘enforcers’
Minus–fans having one excuse after another for not showing up! Remember all the I’ll buy tix if we pick JT? Not so much…

  104. 104 WM

Sorry but ticket prices are an issue - I got 2 free tickets from the Isles DVD set I purchased. It’s for the day-after-Thanksgiving game against the Pens. Section 336 about 15 rows up — $60 each!! Ridiculous! Sorry but that’s insane. Times are tough and, contrary to what the media and the bogus GDP report showed recently, things are getting worse.

  105. 105 rich

    way to go gordo
    keep up the good work

  106. 106 JimmyMac77

I thought they sold a bunch of season tickets and packages when Tavares was drafted.

How much of a discount do you get when you buy season tickets?

I know in Buffalo… to sit against the glass for the season, it is about $75.00 a game.

They away free tickets last night… you can’t get much cheaper than that.

  107. 107 Rich

And, what exactly did Healey say on the Hot Stove report about the Isles? I can’t find the exact comment or video online. It was pulled off of youtube. Doesn’t Healey know his name is only remembered because he played with the Isles. (his days with the Rangers, he was far from their number 1)

  108. 108 art

Lets look ahead-when Hunter gets back we have more good sized players Sutton, Witt, Moulson, Thompson, Jackman, Size isn’t everything-but it makes the other team think twice before they play a dirty style against our smaller younger talented players.

  109. 109 Alex

Plus: Martinek making great moves up the ice

Minus: The Coliseum ice. The puck looked like a jumping bean out there

  110. 110 Restore the Pride-n-Passion NYI Hockey

Absoultely feel as the team & talent progress, the games likely would become more meaningful, more physical,
I dare say more intense & demanding Islanders will need an Enforcer ,you look at a quality club like Philadelphia we still do not matchup with if that kinda game is played!

eventually, 4th line rolling and all
The Islanders know internally this is a future requirement in the building of a well balanced team!

I believe along with the upgrades next season at minimum we will see this Rechlichz or outside help brought in.
Snow was one of the toughest goalies to play in recent memory, i’m sure this aspect is not lost on him.
For now the enforcer can wait.

It’s still a North American game , blended with superb European & Russian Talent!
lets Go Isles!! Lets Go Islanders!!

  111. 111 Jim Clark

#106 Wang said on the Mike Francesa radio show they might have sold 200 tickets when they drafted Tavares. From his tone, that sounded like the high side. Lots of things the various owners have done in the last two decades to lose the fans. As Humpty Dumpty found out, it’s very hard to put something back together again.

  112. 112 Restore the Pride-n-Passion NYI Hockey

Did we get to 20k for patty’s kids?
Looked for him today how did he do?

  113. 113 BC

Looking at the past three games, I think we all have been able to get a look into the future. Tavares and Okposo are continuing to develop, and produce, as expected. I admit I had been questioning if Moulson could be a top-six forward, but after playing this well for so long, all I can say is I’m sure that’s what people said about Luc Robitaille as well. Tambellini is finally bringing the scoring touch to the NHL, and if he continued to play like this, there is no doubt he is a capable top-six forward as well. Bailey and Streit are looking better and better every game, although with Streit having 6 points and 13 games he is just south of the pace of his totals last season anyway. Neilsen is starting to produce as well as do very well in the faceoff circle.
For the first time in the while, I am looking forward to the game on Monday. Let’s Go Islanders!

  114. 114 Eastonhockey

The islanders told the fans that they don’t expect to win or compete for playoff spots for YEARS…so most smart fans have decided to go to concerts n buy n do other things for a few years. Nothing wrong with that. Plus with HD tv people can see much better at home then at the game

  115. 115 West Coast Fan

Plus: The chant of TAM-buh-LI-ni that went up after the hat trick. Must have sent a chill up Steve’s spine.

Minus: That chant would have been unreal with 16K in attendance.

  116. 116 TwistedWrister

Nice Plus/Minus, but no mention of Biron’s excellent play? Tamby hat trick or not, without Biron playing out of his mind this game might have gone 5-0 the other way.

  117. 117 mrlbem

There’s usually a one season lag time between becoming good and the fans coming back. Look at 01-02, we got good in a hurry. The fans came out to support the team, in terms of season ticket sales, more in 02-03.

  118. 118 Danielle

I agree with #104 - I’m sick of having to pay $60 each for top level 300 seats that aren’t even near the center. I keep hearing about and seeing advertisements for all these $30 tickets, yet somehow they’re never available when I go to buy tickets - even with the arena half empty. And close to $200 for mid-lower center? Forget about it. They’re trying to recoup their losses by raising ticket prices, yet high ticket prices are, I’m sure, a factor in the decreasing attendance. A cycle with no progression. I would like to go to every game, but I can’t afford to pay $120 every week or two for a pair of tickets, so I only bother when they’re playing another team that I like, so I at least feel like it’s worth it.

  119. 119 Islesin2010

I agree with the talk about the ticket prices. The Islanders’ marketing in every aspect has to become more fan friendly to the real fans who want to attend multiple games every year. Even with the terrible facilities at NVMC, nothing bring me more joy than watching a game, but the tickets has continued to increase as the talent level of play on the ice has decreased.

Rolo to get the start tomorrow? And Marty wed.? That sounds like a pretty good plan for me. Rolo can play his former club at home and then Marty gets a rematch against a team hes played very well against.

  120. 120 isle5

Getting Robbie Schremp is the best thing that happened Jeff Tambellini! Shoot The Puck Tamby! Shoot The Puck! Good things happen to those who shoot the puck.

  121. 121 shish

finally ! tamby is starting to do things right. hope last couple games havn’t been a fluke. I want to see nothing more than the current team we have keep this level of play up. I’m not going to get my hopes up just yet, but I am very happy with their play as of late. Go Isles !!!

  122. 122 RD

See what happens when they give Tambellini more icetime and talent to play with! The kid has 6 goals and 7 points in 8 games! Congrats!

No offense to Tavares, but you have to say that Tambellini is probably the most gifted scorer on the team at this time. He is also the fastest. Keep up the good work, Jeff! Hope you net another Trick vs Dad’s team!

Isle’s young talent looking real good right now! I think Bailey is the next guy that has to step it up but the kid is 20 years old.

Finally, right now, Kyle Okposo is by the far best player on the team. Thanks, Neil Smith!

  123. 123 RD

If this team keeps winning, the fans will return. They are still out there. Look at the Yankees of the 1980’s. Nobody was referring to Yankee Stadium as a cathedral then. The place was getting 25,000 for Sunday games. They built a winner and looked what happened. When the team keeps winning, the attendance will slowly rise. We are also in a recession, which is a factor for many.

Thrown in Halloween, the Yanks in the series, and you got yourself 8800!

Most NYI fans are sick of the nonsense. Once they see this team is for real, they won’t mind spending money for the product on the ice. I think a settlement on a new arena somewhere would help too.

Plus - The great feeling this team has given its fans. Before the Ranger game, it looked like they would never be able to finish a game. Overall, the team’s & fan’s confidence is in a good place.

Minus - I missed the 1st period and beginning of the 2nd period against Buffalo (I was at my son’s hockey game). When I turned on the radio in the car to see what was going on, it went for almost 15 minutes without Howie or Billy giving the score - absolutely incredible. Even at the start of a commercial break, no score given. Thank God when the commercials were over, Kinger cleared things up (Isles 1-0). I like Howie & Billy, but they dont have the hang of this simulcast thing yet. It was an infuriating 15 minutes. I hope they read this blog. In case they dont, Chris, you’ve got to straighten them out.

  125. 125 JJ

#124 - I highly doubt that Howie & Billy have been told to gear their broadcast towards both TV and radio.

They’re going about business as usual, and they ARE television announcers. It’s unfortunate the Isles have no radio deal, but it’s something we have to live with.

Besides, doesn’t your kid have an iphone!? ;)

  126. 126 Adam

Everyone complaining about ticket prices need to realize that you would pay a lot less if you just got a ticket package. My seats are listed at 60 bucks but I think it comes out to 40 dollars each because I have season tickets. In addition, the parking is included. Buy at least a partial plan, save some money, and support your damn team.
Besides, the prices are the prices. I think they are fair. You are not going to pay ten bucks to go to a game. This isn’t the 70s anymore. Get over it.

  127. 127 James

Exactly Adam, people are complaining about the prices, its ridiculous.

Everyone here swore they would buy season tickets if we drafted JT; well we drafted him; where are all the fans.

I understand about the economy, but geez if you want this team to stay on Long Island, do anything in your power to get to some games. You can buy packages and save money that way. Do it, get out there and cheer your team.

It is kinda said that I need to put this up everytime, but before someone tells me to go to games; I live in Florida so that can’t happen, but you guys that live there that can get to the games, find a way to do it.

  128. 128 beatlebailey

I dont understand what long islanders are doing. You have a professional sports franchise in your backyard and you need to support the team. There are plenty of high priced luxury cars in the parking lot..don’t give me this bad economy BS. People on LI have money..plenty of it. Take advantage of being able to bring your kids to see the best hockey players in the world ( maybe not on the islanders yet) but we are getting there. If the Isles leave we will never have another pro team here. Cmon fellas..single guys no excuse… get out to the damn game…father’s bring your kids out. Geezus you can get 4 tix and other stuff for $129 not too shabby.

  129. 129 The New Isles GM

As much of a high I had for Robbie Schremp, if we are not going to utilize his talents, we’re better off trading them. I read that Minnesota is looking for some more offensive help. Maybe we can trade Schremp off for a 3 or 4th round pick. Or maybe even Toronto, they’re blowing it too. That is, if they’re interested….

  130. 130 BringBackNyles

Adam/James I would like to explain why I didn’t buy a plan. I used to have one and I gave it up. To be blunt, the Islanders were ripping me off. Yes, I got discounted tickets, but at most games early and late in the year, they would offer 2 for ones, or student discounts, or deep price cuts to get some people in the building foe less then my “discount”. Anyone that pays face value for a non-Ranger game isn’t shopping very well. Already any game before Christmas , including the Thanksgiving weekend games, are 50% of via AAA. Why should I lay out any money in advance when I know they will drop these prices like rocks if they are out of it or a bad team hits town? Your $60 tickets are being sold via AAA for $30 with no fees. What’s the point in getting a plan? I felt like a sucker.

  131. 131 mapisles2025

There is a chance DiPietro (knee) will be able to return around Thanksgiving, according to the Islanders’ web site.

  132. 132 James

Ok #130, then if there are discount tickets that are cheaper than the seasonal plans, then why aren’t the fans getting those tickets and going to the games?

Bottom line there have been tons of promotions the Isles have done already and the fans haven’t taken advantage of them.

Sorry this is all on the fans, YOU want the team to stay on Long Island, find a way to get to some games and support your team

Do you really feel that the TOH is going to approve the LH project after seeing so many seats in the NVMC now? It is pretty logical, why would they approve a new project for a team that isn’t even close to selling out games now as it is? Answer is THEY WON’T. The only way you are going to put more and more pressure on the TOH is to start filling those seats. It is pretty logical from where I stand. A team that can’t sell out games is NOT going to get a new arena deal. It is that simple.

  133. 133 BringBackNyles

James/132..that I agree with. I don’t know what it will take to fill the barn on a weeknight, but your likely addressing peple who wouldn’t be reading the blog so I don;t know the answer I can just guess.

My two cents: more people then ever commute to NYC, it just isn’t possible to get to games on weeknights anymore unless they have a big reason (top flight team) to do so.

The Saturday games usually fill up once the baseball season winds down

  134. 134 James

True, hopefully after the World Series is over, that will help out the attendance

I also the feel the NHL kinda screwed a lot of teams last night by playing games at night on Halloween; come on really?

If the Isles played earlier in the day, I can guarantee you their would have been a better crowd.

  135. 135 BringBackNyles

Im sure the Isles might have moved it once the Yankees made the series if they could, but the Sabres played Friday night

  136. 136 Spinner9

Another major reason for the progress seen thus far (besides everything else pointed out) is the relative healthiness of the team thus far compared to last year. This team does not have a big margin for error in each game and last year at this time we had a plethora of guys out and it continued that way throughout the season.

  137. 137 eastonhockey

LOL NO Way shcremp gets a 4th rounder back in a trade. Guerin barelly hadn anyone offer a 4th rounder. Guerin was a guaranteed 20 goal scorere minimum. Schremp? This guy is the equivilant of a mop of man in the bullpen with a era of 9.00. Nobody wants this guy. He cant even score at the ahl. At least Tambellini was scoring in the AHL

  138. 138 Mike L

Let’s not forget that as much as many of us would like to go to games we don’t always have time. I usually go to about 20 games a year, but this year I find myself working many nights when games are scheduled. I’d love to go to every game I could, but I’m sure there are many others like myself that can’t always find the time to go.

  139. 139 jim

James 132 I agree with you but don’t be fooled. That land will be developed with or without the Islanders. The arena is just toppings. If the Islanders moved years ago something like the LHP would still be proposed.

  140. 140 Adam.Lisabeth

Question cb… Can u tell us next time u plan on doing the plus minus so we know when the next lost isn’t coming…

  141. 141 TM

LI doesn’t deserve an NHL team with this poor attendance. Plain and simple. The politicians certainly don’t deserve it and the fairweather fans don’t either. NYI marketing is terrible as they market ONLY to LI fans.

Can some of this bad attendance be because of no radio coverage and backlash from the low payroll etc.?

Did Saturday set a record for lowest attendance when there wasn’t a storm? LI is done, time to go to QUEENS and get access to more fans.

  142. 142 hollywood

Funny how 90% on this board have been killing Gordon’s system, Tambellini, Baily and Thomson. Thomson has been GREAT! Tamby is a goal scorer, opposing teams better take notice. I have stated this before, the progression of Tambellini will put the rebuild in high gear. Enough negativity and let’s see what this team can accomplish in the next 10 games.

  143. 143 Sumo Goalie

I say throw Schremp in the lineup tonight against his former team (plus I want to see what he does with some quality minutes). Maybe it’ll light a fire under his butt. And there is no reason this team should lose at home to Edmonton tonight. If they do all the good feelings will be sucked out of me in one shot.

  144. 144 toorude

hey mr. botta - what happened to Patty Laf- did he make it, even run? or sit out in a contract dispute because 19k was not enough. you ask, we gave and now no new!? what gives? did i miss something?

  145. 145 kevin fitz

So it’s November now. Is this the month that we FINALLY see DP in net??

  146. 146 justin

A search of Pat La Fontaine on the ING marathon site, showed he finished in a very respectable 4:27:08. Congrats Pat and glad to have been part of a huge day for CIC.

  147. 147 Islesin2010

CB- I think it may be time a post about the idea of having “3 bonafide number one” goalies on this team in the words of Garth Snow.
With Ricky on the cusp of a return, and Marty and Rolo starting to look comfortable, its going to be like pulling teeth to make a cut on either. This is going to be a signature double-guessing by everyone in the hockey world if Snow is wrong. It’s a juicy story, very rare and very very interesting.

  148. 148 James

Islesin, actually it isnt like pulling teeth

    look at the contracts

DP for however many years; he stays
Roloson was brought in for 2 years
Biron was brought in for 1 year

Think about it, Biron is 8 years younger and only has a 1 year deal; to me it is pretty clear who would get dealt if DP ends up staying healthy.
