i still like shremp. that clearly was not enough time

  2. avatar islestyle says:

schremp has something that only a few others on this team have, the ability to score. however, he is going to have trouble doing that when he is on a line with jon sim and other players who lack talent.

  3. avatar Matt says:

Schremp should get more time. i think he should play with Bailey and Bergenhiem. Bailey needs people to pass to and Schremp needs someone to set him up. Berg can bang in a rebound.

  4. avatar doc says:

I thought Shremp has shown enough (not on the score sheet obviously) to continue playing over guys like Sim, Wrecker, Tabellini etc.

Something wrong with our conditioning coaches and weight training staff. They must have these guys stretching WAAAAAYYYY TOOOOOO MUUUUUCH causing the epidemic hip labrum and groin injuries.

    DiPietro x2
    Sillinger
    Bates
    Koskinen
    Weight
    Bergenheim
    etc.

    DOC

  5. avatar mmm22 says:

How about they actually show up for this game…and remember only 5 guys on the ice.

  6. avatar mt275 says:

If the job is between Schremp, and Tamby, I would keep Tamby. He’s been more effective, and consistent.

  7. avatar terry says:

schremp should play over sim and tamb in the games he played he played well and looked to be one of the few who could pass the puck to his own team. I dont see any improvement from sim from last year but he gets to play. Lets see if schremp can play at this level he is YOUNG and fits the so called youth movement.I still have hope for the future.

  8. avatar JPinVA says:

If Schremp is going to be an experiment put him in a spot that you can easily vacate. Moving Bailey to BP will improve both teams, and about 5 players. I really believe that JB will be fine, and should have a long career as a NYI… BUT NOT NOW!
They should let Schremp play the third line center. Do it for 10 games and if it’s not working out… FIRE SCOTT GORDON. (HA!)

  9. avatar Rich says:

I don’t see how they can end an experiment that seemed to work out and call it a failure. If your going to end an experiment it should be the 3 wasted year of experimentation with the lack of skill and common sense known as Jon Sim, or the useless everywhere excet the faceoff dot Nate Thompson. You shouldn’t get rid of someone who showed that he has actual talent and an ability to pass and score if given the chance. The real problem with Rob Schremp is that he is from New York and has no ties to the city of Boston. Only players and personnel who have grown up in, played for, or worked for the Boston Organization or somewhere in the Boston Area are given real opportunities with the Islanders.

  10. avatar Gary P says:

Move park up to 1st line and move moulson down to second w shremp and whoever. The rest doesn’t really matter. Most of the young guys on this team won’t be in the nhl in a few years. Always thought not signing hilbert was a mistake. He was 5th last year in goals for the team.

  11. avatar Vas says:

Can Gordon allow one of these goalies to get into a groove! Unbelievable! He was a goalie doesn”t he see that!

  12. avatar UIF says:

Schremp can thread a pass like no other player on the roster. I’m not saying he’s great or even good. Doesn’t go to traffic areas, disappears more often than not, etc. But as a power play specialist, he could be valuable. If he shows nothing else, having him as a fourth line wing/power play/shootout player would be more useful than most of our other fourth line options.

  13. avatar Joe says:

Shremp hasn’t put the puck in the net and is miserable defensively, don’t need it.

  14. avatar Jim from Babylon says:

Gordon’s lineups constantly amaze me? Sim will be gone next year and we are supposed to be playing for the future. So tell me again why he is getting playing time- and on the power play also?!?!? I know we cannot play all young players, but Sim, geezz.

  15. avatar Joe Cusumano says:

How could the Schremp expieriment be over???? He has not been given a chance!!! After all the time WASTED on do nothings like Tambellini, the Islanders should be ashamed of themselves if they pull the plug on him. It will certainly say volumes about how pathetic the coach and GM really are if they dont give a talent like a real chance!!!

  16. avatar IslesinOside says:

Please stop with the Goalie rotation!!!!! PICK ONE!

  17. avatar Staten Islander says:

The Schremp experiment should be 10 games with reasonable ice time, thats the only way to get a true feel of what he’s got.

  18. avatar Jon the sniper Sim says:

Schremp deserves to play over me jon the sniper sim!

  19. avatar IslesinOside says:

    Gordon’s “Post It’s”:
    1. Stop the Goalie rotation
    2. Try actually playing guys consistently
    3. The “System” always leaves players on the other team in open ice and that is when they score.
    4. Why is Sim in the lineup?
    5. Maybe the “System” isn’t good, all the time, against every team?
    6. Perhaps some actual coaching during the game might work?
    7. Ummmmmm…..

  20. avatar Alan says:

This organization will continue to be a laughing stock until Wang or whoever owns this team brings in a real hockey man to run it. Garth Snow is a joke, and this team will rue the day that he was hired. From Mike Milbury to Garth Snow – one mistake after another.

  21. avatar The New Isles GM says:

It’s getting to the point where we are all beating a dead horse. I understand we all want to point fingers at whose to blame but this organization needs a serious overhaul. From the top, down.

Whatever the facts may be, unless we put real talent on the ice, we will be nothing but second best. It’s unfortunate to love something so terrible. I don’t even know what to say anymore.

  22. avatar isles316 says:

Garth Snow isn’t the problem, Scott Gordon isn’t the problem. A full rebuild takes years and years. We are 4 or 5 years away from making the playoffs and being a good team. When you guys can accept that and get on board with this process, the sooner you will stop pointing fingers.

  23. avatar volmeeezy says:

I love the Islanders and support them with everything i got but this is just torture. We will finish last in the NHL this season without a doubt. Sure i support the rebuild , i have for all 21 years I have been alive because that’s what its been , 21 years of the same garbage. You want to know why DP is hurt? Its a god damn firing squad out there with this pee wee defense we put out there , some ones bound to get killed, too bad it was him. To Charles wang , Garth Snow , Kate Murray , Scott Gordon — PLEASE STOP THE TORTURE AND DO SOMETHING

  24. avatar Blizzard says:

Interesting interview with Bettman on the LHP between periods. Mention of an alternate place for an arena should be explored. Says The Islanders should stay on LI. Wang needs an answer. Hello…..Willits Point?

  25. avatar Alan says:

    Isles 316:

I understand that this takes 4-to-5 years, but besides Tavares and Okposo, what young talent is truly on yhis team. Bailey is soft and shouldnt be on this team. Tambellini and Comeau are both bums. Gervais is at best a 3rd D pairing. This team is filled with aging vets (Witt, Sutton, Weight) and useless kids (Tambellini, Comeau, Gervais). And the past two drafts have frustrated me the most. 2008 – trading down twice to get at best a 2nd line center and 2009 – trading 5 players for a small Dman in Dehaan. There is not much talent on the Island and coming up

  26. avatar Tony says:

New GM is 100% right. This team stinks.

Come on, we do not have even ONE proven 30 goal scorer. None of our goalies is a top 10 goalie. Streit is good, but this defense is no great shakes. The team is really void of talent. And I am fine with that. We got JT and can build off that, but frankly we need a few more top picks, just like Pitt got when they landed Fluery, Malkin, Crosby and Staal.

I get excited every time we score, that’s the fan in me. The realist in me, says keep losing (sorry to say) and hopefully we get another stud or two and have a real nucleus.

I have little faith in Snow, and I am not sure on Gordon, but the issue with this team is talent or lack there of.

  27. avatar IslanderFAN says:

I’m sorry but not always the players fault…its time to look at Scott Gordon, i wasnt in favor of him has the coach i thought this team needed someone like Bob Hartley.

Streit doesnt look at all tonight….you have problems when you get beat by Hab’s Metropolit and Spachek (whatever his name is)

  28. avatar shinkdew says:

It is the players fault when they can’t make a pass longer than 5 feet. Or when they play hot potatoe with it.

  29. avatar KO21 says:

My man, Okposo, hasnt looked like himself tonight…He’s made some terrible passes, especially on the power play…

  30. avatar Islesfan is Vancouver says:

Fully agree with #22. We are still in full rebuild and will take time. Gotta be willing to let the kids take their lumps and learn from it. Bertuzzi took time but we didn’t wait for him. Same with luongo and chara. Snow has to give them time for it to click. Keep building through the draft. I paid for center ice today so I can see all the games from vancouver. I believe in patience and in what we are building.

  31. avatar streit02 says:

Alan it is what it is right now. All you can do is look for progress from the few kids you mentioned and look forward to another high draft pick. I agree on bailey but cut him some slack hes still only 20 years old in his 2nd nhl season on a piss poor team. Wasting money to get us to the middle of the pack wont help. I truly believe that snow will add some key players next offseason, but its crucial to draft high again next year.

  32. avatar IslesinOside says:

“This is a rebuild” is somewhat ridiculous. Of course it is a rebuild but that is absolutely no excuse for the way these guys are playing. Sure there is not a lot of talent on this team but it is up to the coach to work with what he has and I refuse to believe that these guys are that bad at hockey. Cmon coach watch from the bench, recognize the players mistakes and try to make an adjustment. Don’t just come out and blame them for not sticking to the System and then crossing your fingers next game.

  33. avatar Alan says:

    #28:

I believe in patience, but can you please tell me what you think of Tambellini, Comeau, Gervais and Bergenheim. What kind of players do you project them to be. Bailey needs 20 games in BPort

  34. avatar KO21 says:

WHy is everyone so high on Schremp???He looked ok but he didnt look that strong…

I cant stand seeing Simmer wasting valuable space on scoring lines…Sim should be on the 4th line…Why is Gordan wasting a spot on a scoring line on a low skill grinder???

  35. avatar Blizzard says:

…..Isles giving a scrappy effort. Much better than the last time they where there. And Witt is awful.

  36. avatar Staten Islander says:

watching the free center ice, i notice most other teams don’t run around in their own end like the isles do, most other teams can complete more passes thru the zone and most other teams don’t fan of shots like the isles. its discourging

  37. avatar UIF says:

Sheesh, what an insane number of breakaways and odd man rushes. How about some recognition boys!

  38. avatar Alan says:

it’s discouraging by game 10 thinking about the ’10-11 draft, whether to draft Hall, Fowler and Kabanov. All I hope is that our backup goalie has a fire sale and trades all vets over 30, excluding Streit. And what the hell is Nielsen doing on our PP.

  39. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Biron is saving them tonight

  40. avatar WM says:

I know I’m stating the obvious but Witt is just God-awful.

  41. avatar IslanderFAN says:

Let me correct myself..Streit is awful tonight!…Biron is doing a great job.

  42. avatar KO21 says:

I like that Streits getting shots off, finally…Lookin better

  43. avatar Biggie says:

Defensive zone coverage is awful. Stop talking about the ‘system’ and play some man on man d in our zone.

  44. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

#29, honestly have no idea, but I know based on stats that it would have been easy to write off Joe Thornton as a bust the first year and he was on a much better team. Sometimes it just doesn’t click for a player right away, sometimes it never does. IMO tonight Bailey actually looks a lot better than Okposo. Kyle is fighting the puck while Bailey seems to be protecting the puck well and his linemates aren’t driving to the net. I think Bailey will be much more noticeable with Hunter when he’s back.

  45. avatar Alan says:

Tambellini will never ever produce in this uniform. Send him to his Daddy and he can produce there.

  46. avatar IslanderFAN says:

its the coach thats puts a system and cleary the Gordon’s system doesnt work, its not like the Isles are getting blow away they lost must of their games by 1 goal and in overtime, one think i dont like is that Scott doesnt show much emotions behind the bench during the games..mark my words their will be a new head coach this season sooner then later.

And Brendan Witt is absolutely horrible tongith and this season.

  47. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

#35, I’m a pretty harsh critic of Witt but the last couple games he really hasn’t looked bad or beaten badly at all. He’s obviously lacking footspeed but I haven’t seen much of anything I’d call him out on. Streit is having a much tougher time mentally I think.

  48. avatar Tbird says:

Witt is killing Isles on the defensive and offensive end. Crappy wrist shots directly into defense causes fast breaks the other way.

  49. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

    NICE MOVE BY TAMBS!

  50. avatar Tbird says:

That what I’m taking about. nicely done Tamby

  51. avatar Mike L says:

2 goals in 2 games for Tamby. Keep tryin to prove yourself out there

  52. avatar Chris A says:

    TAMBS!!

  53. avatar Alan says:

I speak of him and he puts the biscuit in the basket. Can he please do this on a consistent basis? He has 25-30 goal potential.

  54. avatar Staten Islander says:

    maybe this’ll wake them up

  55. avatar chris says:

great aggressive move by tambs, that’s one of the best heads up play he’s had on this team. glad to see that potential!

  56. avatar JoeRiverside says:

I’m with the camp that says it takes 4-5 years to build a great team (esp. when you’re starting at the bottom of the heap). Yeah, we have 12 or so 3rd line players on this team, but you have to fill a roster (you’re not going to attract any star FA’s until you show some core talent). For those who say they’ve been waiting for 20+ years, my response is that this is the first time since the championship teams that I’ve seen the Isles truly go with a youth movement. It’s painful, but it is the right thing to do. I just sit back and watch JT, KO & JB develop (and hope for Tambs, Berg, etc to have a career breakout). Having said that; I would feel a lot more comfortable if we had an owner that was completely hands off and a GM with a little more experience. As for the coach, I haven’t been terribly impressed, but it’s really hard to judge him due to the lack of talent on this team. So I am willing cut him some slack. IMHO

  57. avatar Mike L says:

Alan if criticizing Tamby keeps putting out those results then please continue to do it lol

  58. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

bad play by sim at the end there to not go hard to his man which allowed yet another scoring chance, but we’re tied going into the third. Let’s get a lucky bounce for a change!

  59. avatar Alan says:

Based on tonight’s performance, hopefully a team like Detroit will offer us a late 1 or early 2 for Biron. We already have 2 3′s in the upcoming draft, and hopefully if we can trade Park, Weight, Witt, Sutton and others for 2nd and 3rd rounders.

  60. avatar James says:

Yea I was thinking Tambs gets criticized an awful lot, but he has absolutely come to play this season when given the chance.

This is a team of young forwards that will figure it out; they just need to learn to finish. I am liking what I am seeing from several players night in and night out.

  61. avatar Alan says:

    Thanks, Mike.

But seriously, he’ll play like this for a week and be invisible for a month. I have always wondered what type of player Tambellini true is. Is he a second line winger or a 3rd line winger? I dont know.

  62. avatar figgy says:

The cross bar was on our side at the end of that period! A few bounces go our way and we can sneak out a win against a team that out classed us in every way on the ice just a few days ago…

They need to just keep plugging away…

  63. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

Alan that’s what we have to figure out as we watch these guys learn to play at the NHL level. For every player that figures it out, I figure at least two of them won’t work out. But it’s a lot more fun than watching Tavares get traded by Milbury for say..Darcy Tucker. I’ll be patient as long as we do this right and don’t trade any of our youth for a quick fix.

  64. avatar isles316 says:

Alan, I understand that. I like Nielson as a solid 3rd center and Bailey remember is only 20 years old. They don’t have that much talent on the team right now and that’s whay I’m saying it’s going to take a while. I understand your frustration as well. It stinks watching them lose, but tonight when Tambs scored I got pumped because these guys are playing their rear off.

  65. avatar Alan says:

    James:

There is consistency on one night and then there is invisibility for 5 nights. Bottom line, this team might have 2or 3 top 6 forwards and 1 NHL caliber D man. Dehaan, Hamonic, Fowler and maybe UFA Volchenkov would drastically change this team next season

  66. avatar Healy says:

Look I get all the qualifying factors (only year 2 of rebuild, its still early, etc) but this is one of the worst Isles teams I’ve seen. The number of turn overs, missed passes, lack of fire to get that puck. I don’t know what it is. Sometimes they get in gear and look dominant, but they follow it up by looking like they are sleep walking. is it that they are tired?

Anyway some positives to end this comment. I will always watch and go to games, so Go Isles!

Also loving Billy Jaffe getting ticked at the Montreal crowd for calling for a penalty everytime a Canadian falls. It IS rather irritating.

  67. avatar Mike L says:

Honestly Alan, I dont think Tamby is consistent enough to be a top 6 player. I would like him to start playing a little more aggressive and I think he can be a good 3rd/4th line energy guy. He will never score 25-30 goals. Im hoping he can score 15, but like I said, I will never expect him to have that big of a year

  68. avatar Alan says:

    Isles316:

Are you confident that Garth Snow can truly turn this team around? Want Matt Martin here by midseason!!!

  69. avatar James says:

yea Alan and I think that is the plan, also I do see Biron being traded at the deadline, if he plays well a playoff team needing a goalie may pay something decent for him. In terms of the other guys; I am not sure about trading Sutton, he has been our best D guy so far this year. With the D as shaky as it has been, do you really want to get rid of Sutton at the deadline when there is no real way of knowing how we replace him?

It is kinda sad that we are talking about the trade deadline already lol

  70. avatar Alan says:

    Mike:

Tambellini has top-6 talent, but will never be that type of player. He frustrates me, but not as much as Bergenheim. As I said in the past, he has the potential to play like Ryan Callahan and doesnt do so on a consistent basis.

  71. avatar Alan says:

    James:

This is Sutton’s walk year. He needs to be traded, as does one of our goalies, Weight, Park adn Witt (will be hard as he has one more year left after this season). We do have some good young D men in our system (Ness, Hamonic, Dehaan, Kessel and Donovan), but they are 2-3 years away. As I said earlier, I’d take UFA money this offseason and give Volchenkov 4 years 16 mill.

  72. avatar IslanderFAN says:

bring UFA its easy to say but you cant dont anything if they dont want to come…Smyth left and The Isles offered him more money then the Avs.

  73. avatar isles316 says:

If Garth Snow is given the resources and sticks to his plan than I think he will turn it around.

  74. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

is it just me or do the Isles have some of the worst puck luck in the third period? Some of the goals that have been scored against them are just terrible luck, where we can’t get a break like that ourselves. The goal against the caps that goes off Bailey’s leg..Moen’s goal tonight that goes off the post, then off Biron and trickles barely across the line.. Frustrating for sure. We have some terrible luck.

  75. avatar Justin says:

We may have terrible luck but the opposing team always spends more time in the Isladers zone, regardless of shots on goal. This team very rarely applies constant pressure to the opposition.

  76. avatar shinkdew says:

I think Snow can turn it around too. I don’t really have a problem with any of the moves he’s made. They probably wish they could have Grebeshkov back, but at the time they were desperate for a PP QB.

  77. avatar UIF says:

Power play. Now or never, Isles.

  78. avatar mtrico says:

Are the Islanders ever going to outplay an opponent in the 3rd period?

  79. avatar FourCupsin4yearsnot60 says:

    Ok, big PP.

  80. avatar Chris A says:

    TAMBS!!!

  81. avatar Staten Islander says:

    TAMBY AGAIN!

  82. avatar Jamerson says:

    JEFFREY!!!

  83. avatar FourCupsin4yearsnot60 says:

    TAMBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  84. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

Alan you’re gonna have to keep ripping on Tambs, you’re a good luck charm!

  85. avatar Jerry says:

there ya go Tamby, proud of u kid!

  86. avatar streit02 says:

bout time we get a break. good for tamby

  87. avatar IslesinOside says:

Good for Tambs…too bad Gordo will probably bench him next game as a reward!
    Anyone see Freddy Meyer?

  88. avatar Willis says:

Well, Tambellini was pressent and accounted for tonight, eh?

  89. avatar Willy P says:

You no something weird has happened when tambo scores twice and the isles are the one playing comeback kids lol… i glad to see tambo putting some pucks in the net. I never put him down but on the inside it kills to have someone with some much talent and have trouble hitting the net. Hopefully he gets on a role. And as i was talking bout him he just had a nice shot in OT

  90. avatar teddyfusi says:

tambs was flying on that ot shot..

  91. avatar Chris A says:

    Another OT loss

  92. avatar WM says:

    Streit SUCKS!

  93. avatar Jerry says:

it’s disgusting how bad we are in OT.

  94. avatar IslesPassion21 says:

The NHL’s, officiating, is the worst in pro sports. We got a goal, thanks to a bad call and lost a goal, thanks to a quick whistle.

  95. avatar purplesmurf says:

    overspeed! what a joke

  96. avatar volmeeezy says:

    PEE WEE defense

  97. avatar Justin says:

Streit looking like a pylon out there. Tavares too, terrible defense, throw a body and that would be enough to slow Plekanec down. Brutal.

  98. avatar shinkdew says:

All Streit had to do was stand there and let the guy run into him.

  99. avatar Islesfan_in_Vancouver says:

tavares caught standing still at center and a great rush by the Habs. Good effort to get a point tonight and maybe Tambs will gain some much needed confidence with those two goals. He almost had the third and like teddy said, he was flying on that chance. On to the next game! We’re only 3 games under 500 if you think about it :)

  100. avatar Justin says:

10 games, one win. Bottom line.

  101. avatar Alfred says:

    Tonight’s payrolls:

    Montreal Canadiens: $56,000,000
    New York Islanders: $42,000,000

Wang continues to shortchange this team while pursuing his land baron pipe dream.

  102. avatar TM says:

At this rate, NYI will get their 1st win in regulation sometime in January.

Good job Wang, Snow and Gordon.

    Streit burnt like TOAST.

  103. avatar IslesPassion21 says:

Streit got beat but to say he sucks is ridiculous…

  104. avatar Willis says:

I guess you’re right #97, but still, UUGGGGHHHH!

  105. avatar jimmy says:

this dump and chase has got to go all the teams we’ve played have had so many odd man chances and all we do is dump ad chase and turn the puck over

  106. avatar Alan says:

    Dear Garth:

Can you please trade this entire defense for a bag of pucks and get us a new defense?

    Thanks

And as far as tambs goes, I hope it continues Wednesday night against the Rangers maybe minus Gaborik, who got hurt tonight.

  107. avatar TM says:

….Wang dosn’t care except for the real estate. The team is awful. C Dey makes sure we can’t hear the games on radio. It never ends.

    PLEASE GO TO QUEENS ALREADY!!!!!!

  108. avatar isles79-83 says:

    tough break.
Streit played it well but Plakanec made a sweet pass and Hamrlik nailed the shot. Good game by Biron tonight.
Isles just need to learn how to gain the zone and they could get a lot more chances.
First pass and neutral zone play is rough.

  109. avatar IslanderFAN says:

What a shock..Streit awful to the end!, he looks like the same d-man when with Montreal.

Who cares about the payroll…the Habs will be stuck with those overpaid (Gomez!) players and its a team thats not a very good one.

  110. avatar max says:

Wang should just sell the team to someone who cares about hockey and winning regardless of where the team plays. I rather see the islanders flourish then suck on long island cuz this team wont make the playoffs for another 2-3 years AND WE CANT WAIT THAT LONG ON THIS DAMN REBUILDING METHOD

  111. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

We shouldn’t of even gotten into OT so I’ll take the point, however, we made that last play easy for the Canadiens. STUPID DEFENSIVE PLAYS. Our defense is porous.

  112. avatar 2Bit says:

Plus: we got lucky to get a point.

Minus: Motreal really knows how to exploit our lack of skill.

  113. avatar Willy P says:

This poor islanders team. Its not like they arent playing hard. Anytime your team has been to overtime 6 times you have to be working hard. The team seems to all be struggling now. I feel once they break this funk they will have a very good team, They just have to get players to start scoring. Its to early to Streit and Okposo and Baliey are having a bad year, but theses players and many more need to wake up soon

  114. avatar Joseph says:

    Skate back and help JT

  115. avatar Tony says:

were JT & Streit cones for some slalom drill?

Nice move by Plekanec, but a body rather than a matador-wave might have helped

  116. avatar Mark says:

Great, tough game. A point on the road isn’t easy to come by, especially against the habs.

  117. avatar Matt says:

another game, another loss. hopefully the 13,000 ranger fans that take over our building in a couple of days puts the message that this team is a joke in charles wangs head. i doubt it though.

  118. avatar drivefro5 says:

unreal can we hit somebody. We dont use the body on D and Streit cost us 2 goals because he is affraid to use his body.

  119. avatar Frank nyc says:

This overtime stuff is getting OLDD
    so is losing…
But one positive after this game you can see a difference
in Jeff Tambellini. Besides the 2 goals you actually notice him during the game.

  120. avatar Priest says:

Willy P… I think Okposo has played pretty good, and Streit is struggling a bit, but mostly because teams know him now. Bailey, while I’m a fan, hasn’t looked special, so I agree with you there. Just saw a few minutes of the third tonight, so I can’t comment on it specifically.

I also want to say that it would be asinine to end the Schremp “experiment.” He wasn’t ever the best player on the ice, but he brought things to the ice that few others were… Shooting and raw skill. Unless something is going on behind the scenes (entirely possible, given his rep), he should be on the ice.

  121. avatar Islesin2010 says:

God is there some awful flip floppers. The team played well all night. No team in this league will play a flawless game. I wasn’t sure how this team would perform tonight, got to be honest, as I posted earlier. I hoped they wouldn’t get embarrassed again, and they turned in an entertaining, fun, hard fought effort. LOVE THIS GAME. 72 more like this and things will work out.

Now 2 games the Isles have strung back to back, and thats a start. Don’t want to see the payrolls. Use that as a positive, they can compete with $14 million less, no excuses. These guys work hard every night they are a tough team to play against. Very happy for Tambellini, get that confidence kid!! Who woulda thunk it, he scores 3 goals and none with that great wrist shot, all right in front of the net, beautiful garbage goals. Keep doing it

  122. avatar dan from va beach says:

being an isles fan is like wishing for snow in july!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  123. avatar Oren says:

We DON’T move our legs!!! Streit is an embarrassment. Not just for the last play but more for his lacksidasical play. I guess it’s 1 good year and now youv’e taken the rest of the contract off huh Streit??Tavares is painfully bad to watch. He can’t stay on his feet. If someone looks at him he gets taken off the puck. Bravo one good game for Tamby out of 112 games, yay. Ditto Bailey…PAINFUL. But hey be patient, we’re building a mediocre team here. Tavares=30 goal pp specialist, one dimensional. When Crosby came into the league he had spunk and tenacity, Ovie and Malkin too. If tavares is off score sheet he is invisible man. Man this team blows. And you can wait all you want, we dont have any of the pieces. And please stop overrating KO, thamks.

  124. avatar Dan says:

Come back win. We were outplayed the entire game IMO so I can’t be too mad but………………..

Seeing Tavares getting pushed off the puck every play makes me puck. Im getting sick of it. He looks worse then Bailey last year(getting pushed off the puck)

Okposo also had a terrible game. Everyother play the puck was getting stolen from him. Played like poop. (He is my current favorite player but he has not played well recently)

  125. avatar StevieL says:

    Played good. Nice effort.
    Plus Tambellini flying around
Plus Biron kept us in the game
    Plus 4th line energy
minus Tavares and especially Streit, very rough games.
Minus Bailey on the PP, Why?
    Minus PP looks awful
Minus Gordon looks shell shocked in post game, said he thinks we are “close” to getting a 60 minute effort!!
minus Ranger fans will fill NVMC on Wed. and have a good old time!

  126. avatar TM says:

What do you think Tavares reaction will be when he hears 14,000 Ranger fans at “home” on Wednesday?

Welcome to LI John. (They do things differently here and NOT for the better.)

  127. avatar islesfan999 says:

Schremp should play over Sim. He should really play with Okopso and Bergenheim.

First line should be Tavares, Moulson and Comeau…

2nd line Schremp, Okoposo and Bergenheim

3rd line Tambelinni, Nielsen and Bailey

    4th line Thompson/Sim Park Jackman

  128. avatar IslesPassion21 says:

Dan, I agree…Hopefullyn he just had a bad game and its behind him…Even the best players have an off night, even Ovie…

  129. avatar ezacris says:

I guess this “SYSTEM” doesn’t include using the body. What’s the chance we can trade for some physical players? Maybe we should take Laraque back with us to NY.

  130. avatar shinkdew says:

The 4th line was the most consistent line again, for like the third game in a row.

  131. avatar The Real JD says:

Who cares what Tavares thinks on Wednesday, he has played like CRAP the last two games.

Let me tell you what to care about:

    1. Jaffe hit it on the head the PP looks like they are stuck in mud and moving way too slow, puck movement, skating, everything too slow. Without the PP producing the Isles cant compete.
    2. defensive coverage is all about effort and organization of which the Isles play with neither in our own zone. Biron stole a point tonight.

  132. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I am sure to protect his mental health Jeff Tambelleni stopped visiting this site long ago but just in case he decided to check back in WAY TO GO JEFF! You finally played up to your ability.

    This defense sucks!

Andy Sutton got slew footed by that little midget, let’s see if NHL Discipline cracks down on him like it has on several others recently with fines and suspensions.

    Biron played well.

I missed the first period because my cable provider (like every year) shut it off after the free preview even though I was signed up as an early bird.

What I did see in the highlights after the period was Okposo having his head bloodied and Bailey getting a cheap shot. What is this when the Montreal Canadians without O’Byrne and Laraque are running you?

    COmeau picked up his hitting.

The second goal was a result of the Isles not being able to muscle anyone off the puck. That has to change.

Rangers game is next and let’s hope Snow calls up some reinforcements before then.

  133. avatar IslesinOside says:

I’ll be at Madison Square Coliseum Wednesday!! Look for me on TV. I’ll be the 1 wearing the Islander Jersey

  134. avatar Mikey Cavs says:

Maybe Streit’s playing down to his teammates level?

OR maybe he’s playing to be traded. I’ll tell you what, I wouldn’t want to waste MY time playing on this team. You only have so many games in your body.

It’s pretty pathetic that Wang/Snow are doing a disservice to the rest of the guys by not signing a better group of supporting cast.

    They’re going on the Cheap!

  135. avatar StevieL says:

This is crazy but I would like to see Jackman play with JT and OK and would also like to see him planted in front on the PP. I think he brings energy and might free up some space. Not afraid to get busy in front!

  136. avatar BringBackNyles says:

I doubt there will be anything close to 14,000 fans Wednesday, or the usual atmosphere. The World Series is on, the Isles are awful, and tickets are still available.

I realize you can’t assume anything, but the Yankees and Mets did, on paper, have good teams this year. Common sense would be to give the locals road games in canada during the Series dates.

  137. avatar hollywood says:

Does anyone on here have a clue! The comments are crazy. Putting Tambellini on a 3rd line. Listen to Howie and Billy, Tambellini needs top 6 icetime along with PP time. 10 minutes on the 3rd or 4th line is useless. Now if only Gordon would wake up. The top line with Tavares and Moulson is too slow! The lines need to be switched ASAP. Maybe Tavares-Schremp and Bergenheim. The top PP unit with Frans-Moulson and Tavares is horrible. Tambellini should be out there with JT.2nd line should have Okposo-Tambellini-Baily.

  138. To say Tambellini needs top 6 ice-time is giving him convenient excuses to remain sporadically productive. What Tambellini needs to do is more of what he did tonight. I’m all for keeping him on the PP if he can continue this production.

That first line was so sweet in the beginning and now they’ve settled. Need to find something to get them moving. Shremp should come in and Sim sit. If you aren’t going to be a physical team, at least have guys who may be able to score out there.

The worst part of the Isles PP or offensive zone time is that they don’t play simple hockey. They don’t just take shots, they dance around with the puck until a pass gets deflected out of the zone or the guy with 3 on him gets a pass that he obviously can’t handle. Simplify it, go-go.

I wonder how many more losses until go-go gets the go-go. As far as I’m concerned the Isles are 1-9. No good. I played goalie in hockey, so an OT, SO loss is a loss. If that puck went in the net, it’s not good. Let’s go gordon.

  139. avatar dalcy says:

safe to say Streit is not looking good this year so far.

  140. avatar B-RI says:

Jeff Tambellini! WHERE HAS THIS BEEN. I think he had goal 3 like 50 games in last year haha. Good to see him starting to put it together. Someone before was complaining about Tavares playing like crap… about that. Please keep in mind that he is 19, not the second coming of Jesus Christ, and that he does have 6 points so far (look up the stats its a better start that Stamkos last year and Stamkos finished with pretty good numbers). They keep getting points itd just be nice if we could win one every now and then, but i’ll take the points. At least we’re not the Toronto Make-Believes

  141. avatar JPinVA says:

    Matt Moulson… $550K
    Martin Biron… $1,400,000
    Dwayne Roloson. $2,000,000
Not signing any experienced NHL forwards or defenseman and wasting the talent and youth that we do have… PRICELESS
Nice game by Tambellini, Comeau and the fourth line. Things aren’t so bad when you roll four. Montreal is a mediocre team and still they outclass the Islanders by miles.

  142. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Streit has not looked as great this year as he did last season but I’m not down on him because he is playing with an anchor tied around his neck (either Geravis or Martinek). Pair him with another NHL D-man and watch how fast he returns to form.

  143. avatar DocDuke says:

PLUS: Biron played well, Tambellini looked really good…and, considering the roster this team has, they got a point.

Minus: Okposo & Streit look tired, Witt looks old, and Gordon, who i love, again refused to use a God damn Timeout!!!

  144. avatar jt says:

Hey everyone. What we need is Doug Weight healthy, and then the PP will have some more consistency. If we could have had a decent PP tonite, we prob win. KO was fighting the puck at times tonite, and Streit was victimized by some bad decisions by forwards to pass it back to him under pressure. Tamby looked good, he went to the net hard. Now Comeau needs to learn to do that and maybe we get some more goals out of him. As for Nielsen and Bergie, they just need to shoot more. You can’t score goals if you don’t shoot. All in all, good effort tonite. If Gervais slides a second later that pass gets blocked, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

  145. avatar tom says:

id rather just lose in regulation and get in the draft lottery than this crap. how can you lose by 1 all the time

  146. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Tom we are on a pace for 8 wins, I think we will have a ping pong ball or two in the lottery

  147. avatar DC23 says:

Wake me up when this season is over

  148. avatar tom says:

amazingly we have won 1 game and there are a few teams worse than us in the standings

  149. avatar Yippy Yappe Uwe says:

I would so rather see the Isles win half of these overtime games and lose the other half in regulation. This team is not good enough to make the playoffs. These one-point losses will eventually hurt them come lottery time. Can we just put Brendan Witt out on the ice for the last 5 minutes of every game. Or better yet, can we trade Witt for an 8th round draft pick?

  150. avatar sell_the_team_wang says:

Booooor-ring. Another loss. Wanger please sell this team instead of putting an ahl team on the ice to lose every game.

  151. avatar tom says:

can we give schremp a chance…a chance meaning more than 5 games on the 4th line, unless everyone wants to see thompson, jackman, and jon sim, big potential with them huh. Too bad schremp isn’t from boston like thompson

  152. avatar For The Record says:

#131 — Wednesday’s game is at home, not MSG.

  153. avatar tom says:

147, 131 was referring to how the ranger fans will take the place over

  154. avatar jonsson3 says:

    Sim on the power play?
    WTF!
Yea he hustles and gives a good effort but what the heck is he doing on the power play?

Witt -10 and counting. Whats the NHL record for worst +/-? I think he’s gonna break it.

Let’s just beat the Rags! All this will not matter if we beat the Rags.

  155. avatar jonsson3 says:

The record is -82 so he’s right on pace!!

  156. avatar Spinner9 says:

They played a pretty good game all things considered. If taken in isolation most of us would be happy with the effort, its just in the context of what’s gone on thus far that makes its more frustrating. For those calling for Schremp, remember Weight is due to return soon and will probably force Sim to the press box. I thought the 4th line (Park, Jackman and Thompson) played well in their role. Steit seems off but he’ll get better. Tavares is 19 and will have some ups and downs, be patient with him. The guy who frustrates me is Comeau. I know there are a lot of Comeau lovers on this board but he gives no offense and when he’s not using his body he’s totally ineffective. He’s got to learn to be more physical and he can definately be an asset, but right now he’s invisible. One positive thus far is that despite not having an “enforcer” the Isles have not been pushed around, just out-talented. While they are most likely not a playoff team I think they can string together some wins. They are getting closer, not good yet but getting competative.

  157. avatar bergie20 says:

tamby has started to go to the net, which has produced goals. that’s a big plus if he continues to do this. it’s what he needed to do all along to be an effective nhl player. he should be a top 6 forward if he keeps this up.

  158. avatar Stumpy32 says:

Anyone think that Game 1 of the World Series will keep the Rangers (Yankees) fan count down at the Coliseum on Wednesday? I think I’m one of 3 Yanks/Isles fans.

  159. avatar Signit says:

witt freaks — he only played 9 minutes and only 2 shifts in the 3rd.. did not see the ice once we had 12 mins left in the 3rd…

  160. avatar king says:

Schremp would fit better than Sim. Tavares looked soft and Streit had an awful game tonight. Something has to give guys we need someone to step up and take control of this team and bring some heart back to this club. Even Okposo has lost his heart here its truly sad Tambellini proved tonight that he belongs now keep it up. That being said a heart transplant couldn’t fix this teams heart problem right now.

  161. avatar Ugly Roe From Massapequa says:

Gaborik scored two goals for the rags last night. Gee, what would an extra two goals have meant for the Islanders last night?

But then, Gaborik wasn’t available for this franchise. After all, to sign someone like him would have cost — not players, not draft picks — JUST MONEY!

Two of the highest salaried teams in baseball are in the World Series. Gee, does anyone see a trend here? Spend more, win more, right? So how well are the Islanders going to do with a bottom-of-the-league payroll? I think we’re seeing the answer.

I think we’ll continue to see the answer.

By the way, it’s notable that Tambellini scored two goals last night and still had a minus one rating, isn’t it?

  162. avatar Jim Clark says:

#155 Set by Bill Mikkelson with the 1974-75 Washington Capitals. Mikkelson also played with the Islanders in 1972-73. His son Brandon plays with the Anaheim Ducks.

  163. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

    My observations:

-I still believe Gordon is afraid to bench Witt.

-Bailey needs a season in Bridgeport

-Schremp should take Bailey’s spot while he’s away working on his game and his confidence.

-The team looks tired and slow on the ice way too much.

-Gordon still not right for this team.

-(Like much of the team) Tavares looks a bit tired and has hit a bit of a wall lately. This is understandable though considering he is barely 19 and doesn’t have much of a supporting cast.

-Having Hunter and Weight back in the line-up will help but not THAT much.

-Keep Biron and trade Rollie when the time comes.

-Settle this LH bs once and for all!

  164. avatar cusi - Thomas Mancusi says:

Streit, Okoposo and Bailey need to make more of an impact. Streit has been off all year.
The whole team loves to stick check and not take the body, for the most part.

  165. avatar Brian in VA says:

Some posts here are hiliarious!! Someone said its okay we still have 5 more years of “this rebuild.” “A Rebuild” is a convienant (sp?) way to tell the fans to accept losing… This team has two players Tavares and Okposo. One defenseman Sreit. Snow has gambled and lost in the Draft and this team is done until a resolution is made regarding the LH… I kind of wish Wang would sell the team after the resolution because the Isles aren’t moving from NY. Wang knows jack about hockey and we need to clean house! 1-4-5 seriously??? This team is DREADFUL and BORING!

  166. avatar Scott W says:

Try and focus on the positives.
Tambelinni looked like a player. If he can provide us some offense, it can be huge. He has the tools and for the first time since he has been here, I think he looked hungry. Looked like a different person out there. Road points are road points. GOTTA FOLLOW IT UP WEDNESDAY

  167. avatar IslesinOside says:

Tom @ 153, thanks for the explanation to the fellow blogger on 152. I thought that was pretty clear… Lol

  168. avatar db says:

ugly roe you dont get a plus for a power play point and that great player gaborik who was signed to that ridiculous 7 year deal after averaging 50 games a year the last few years left the game hurt last night. now if the isles had over paid for gaborik and signed him to a 5 year 8 million per year contract coming off 2 hip surgeries they would be getting ripped. so u really cant win.

  169. avatar ACIsles says:

Not a great game but I guess I’ll take the road point. Tavares has had a couple quiet game sin a row but I guess that’s to be expected considering the age and the supporting cast. Okposo played his worse game of the year by far, way too many give aways from him. He needs to play much better than that.

Why is Schremp not playing?? I know he hasn’t been great but I don’t think his play warrants a healthy scratch either. This team desperately needs scoring from another line other than the 1st and considering our skill level he needs to be out there.

This team MUST GET 2 points Wednesday night a win over the Rangers will do wonders for their confidence.

  170. avatar Crackhead Theo says:

Im really starting to question Scott Gordon. I see Jon Sim, Nate Thompson and Tim Jackman waaaaay too much. I dont mind Jackman because the guy is all heart, but to consistently have bums like Sim and Thompson on the ice makes me cringe. They are wastes of roster spots. Bring Joensuu back up to the big club or Trevor Smith. At least they are young and we can develop them further. Sim and Thompson are simply a waste of time. Thompson only sniffs the ice because he is Gordons Providence boy. He sucks, bottom line. Get him out of here. sim…well I dont know what else to say, its a farce that this guy still plays here.
STOP rotating goalies. Let one of them play for 3-4 games ina row already. Biron had a greatgame last night, play him again tonight.

    Bring back Laviolette!!!!!!!!

  171. avatar Rich says:

Yawn!!! Wake me up when the Islanders are ready to play a full 60 minutes.

  172. avatar VanVoorhees says:

As I’ve said before, someone explain “Gordon’s system” please. And do a better job than “it’s something like Pittsburg”. Living in Williamsburb, VA, I don’t get all the scoop I need to decide for myself. I will be at the game Friday night in DC. Hope for the best.

  173. avatar Jisles says:

FIRE GORDON ALREADY!! The guy is way over his head. We need an experienced coach who can teach these guys how to actually play in the nhl. We have talent they are not coached properly. obviously this “system” stinks 0 regulation wins in 11 games. Pathetic. It never made sense to hire a rookie coach who was touted as a “teacher” of the game and great with young players who had never played or coached in the nhl. The defenition of insanity is to just keep making the same dumb decisions over and over. I am so fed up. can we get a real coach already. FIRE GORDON.

  174. avatar VanVoorhees says:

Here’s another question, Take Okposo off the line with Taveras and you get 0 points in four games…Hmmmmmmmmm

  175. avatar bob l says:

KO21, i am with you, really i am, but the talent gap between us and the above average nhl team is pretty large, and after the 2nd half of last season, the team played CLOSE to .500 hockey… and contrary to just spouting patience, and rebuild, and whatnot, i want to see PROGRESS — plain and simple — Streit, Gervais, Martinek, Bailey, unfortunately have shown REGRESS so far this year — that’s why i have concerns — don’t mistake concern for “abandon ship” panic, i’m patient – but i need to see some players rebound and grow in order to keep watching this hot mess game after game… i want to re-grow with them, and take pride in them turning into winners, last night was gritty and unfortunate that JT and Streit got lazy and just lunged with their sticks after they fought back to get to OT, but at least last night was growth (at least to me it was)

  176. avatar Madchef says:

was at the game last night. thought the team played well, bad break in ot, as one inch and that set up pass gets broken up. never gave up and if they give an effort like that night in and night out they will win some more games.sit sim play schremp….no brainer

  177. avatar IsleofNJ says:

    161,
“Gaborik scored two goals for the rags last night”
Until he blows a tire and misses substantial playing time.

Biron had a nice game last night…time to stop the rotation and let him play two in a row !

  178. avatar Alex G says:

Everybody complaining about the team not spending money please stop the nonsense.. Yes, the Islanders had a chance to sign free agents, as does every other team. But no highly skilled players want to play here! The team and the arena stink so why would somebody looking to win a championship come here? When the Pens were almost sold and were the worst team in the league back to back seasons, did big name free agents sign there? NO. This team needs to build from within and make savy trades. The great thing about being close to the salary cap floor, is taking skill players away from teams on the fringe of the cap.

  179. avatar therain93 -- terriers fan says:

Actually, I’m an Isles/Yanks fan too — the joy of becoming sports-aware on Long Island in 1980 (at 5 years old : ‘ )

As I advised previously — enjoy the first 2 periods of every game and then turn the tv off. Regardless of the frustration, which I know is up there, the team is hanging in there and different players are stepping up. 10 games in but you can’t expect everything to gel. The fact that the team is not getting blown out but duking it out every game (barring the 5-1 loss) suggests that we’re on the right track.

Regarding Schremp, well, it sounds like he really has gotten a good shot on the top 2 lines with the minutes as suggested by Gordon. It’s also hard to single him out when most of the team is playing just as inconsistently. For now though, Tambi got himself another game, but I think he’s going to have to play a few more like this before really “figuring it out” at this level.

  180. avatar MIkey Pants says:

#177, he did blow a tire. Went off after his 2 goals….Let’s see what the extent of the injury turns out to be. With him, you never know, could be season-ending!

  181. avatar therain93 -- terriers fan says:

    typo…
“Regarding Schremp, well, it sounds like he really has NOT gotten a good shot on the top 2 lines with the minutes as suggested by Gordon.”

  182. avatar UIF says:

Defense used to be such a strength of this team…even with mediocre talent. Everyone said the Isles played boring hockey then…I didn’t think so. We’re still only scoring 2-3 goals, so it’s not like we sacrificed defense for some amazing offensive explosion. We just sacrificed it for more odd-man rushes against. WAY too many breakaways and odd man rushes, and that is not all due to the talent on the ice. It’s awful positioning and it happens every game.

Other than that…decent effort from the players last night.

  183. avatar art says:

A pretty good effort at a tough site. Last several games ok, jt, and Streit not playing well- and they are our top players. Too late for more help this season. Danger of a real collapse and an even emptier nvmc. Main hope LH approval which could bring optimism and patience to long suffering fans. Return of a healthy DP would also bring much needed spark to the team and fans. I’m optimistic good things will happen.

  184. avatar mt275 says:

For those who wants Snow to sign Free Agents, they should look up Tanguay who has 0 goal, and 2 assists after 9 games. That’s a price tag of 2.5 million per year. I will take Moulson, and even giving Schremp a try over such a contract any day.

  185. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

It think flow of isles breakout is good but inablity to adjust as game going on hurts us. Opposing coaches adjust to our off the board break out and play our points tight on PP. causing us to cough up the puck.

Most noticeable was how bad our Passing was. And we need to shoot the puck on two on one instead of forcing a bad pass.

I agree with everyone here. Witt is horrible. he is so slow and that wrister or slapper from point is horrific. Sutton on the other hand i think is skating alot better.

Streit seems frustrated and its taken away from his play.

  186. avatar Eastonhockey says:

Do the Pittsburgh pirate fans hear from owners that they are rebuilding every day also? Cause we r the pirates

  187. avatar chris says:

i understand the frustration as well, but jeeze, some islander fans act as if we were predicted to win the cup this year. I get it, it sucks losing, but when you’re putting together a rebuilding team, you cannotexpect results instantly. there will be growth with each game. See: tamby scoring 2 great goals last night. I understand the reason for frustration, i do, but to come out and say that Tavares sucks, gordon sucks, the whole team is terrible, just isn’t productive at all. take a look at it from the fact that some of the young kids are getting some great PT and learning the ways of the game, we managed to steal a point tonight, which, probably shouldn’t have happened. And to just totally flip flop on Streit? come on, the guy is alloewd to have a bad game, he single handidly put tihs team on his back last year, he’s gotta feel that eventually. 3 weeks ago you guys were all saying how he should be captain. Stick with your team… it will be a bumpy ride, but hopefully worth the wait

  188. avatar IslesRock says:

Was going to make a long post but #s 169 & 170 hit the nail on the head. Just one addition. We are just too small of a team to compete in the NHL. Shame on Snow for that. There were several third line free agents who could have added size and not brake the bank. What was Garth thinking? One less free agent goalie and one or two wingers with size.

  189. avatar Staten Islander says:

If were going to put a positive spin on last night, its that they came back twice to force o/t

  190. avatar Mario says:

I’m sorry but last night it looked like men playing against boys. I know were young, but last night you can actually see it. We were manhandled by the Habs. They looked small and were beaten on every loose puck. Can someone clear our zone or do we have to give them 5-6 chances before we clear the puck.

Streit hasn’t looked like the player he was last year. Don’t know if this is related – but I think having the team vote on the captain was an incredibly stupid idea. Let’s say, for a second, that Streit really wanted that responsibility. Knowing that the team preferred having someone else fill the role has to have some form of negative psychological effect, whether consciously or otherwise. At least if it were a decision made by the staff, he could have written it off as “that’s ok, my time will come”. Just a theory.

  192. avatar Dan from Westchester says:

MINUS – Jon Sim on the PP. . Why???

Plus – Tambellini actually showing some signs of being a player the past week

PLUS – Isles actually get a few breaks / calls go their way and steal a road point

Plus – Marty Biron a solid game

Minus – Mark Streit playing like a shadow of the 08-09 version of himself, so far

Isles should have gotten 2 points against the Caps on Saturday. Probably shouldn’t have gotten any last night – so the last 2 games even out.

  193. avatar MikeD says:

161…both of Tamby’s goals were on the power play which don’t count towards your +/- rating. For him to be a minus one for the game means he was on the ice for one of the Canadians three goals.

post 193 ..i couldn’t have said it any better…everyone just needs to calm the f. down…. you know ovechkin hasn’t scored in like 4 games…i’m sure he’s not getting bashed on the caps fan site…my expectations for this team are ZERO..nothing..zip…i expect a top 5 pick this year..anything else will be nice…them being in the mix for a playoff spot is 2 years away at least so everyone just needs to calm down

  195. avatar Hud says:

Another tough one but, future is brighter than it has been in a while. 193, great points, this is a young team, nobody expected the Red Wings to step on the ice this season. Even when Tambs hs two goals, he gets ripped on. I know it’s been two years but, let the kid have his day.

  196. Not just because of this game… I like what I’ve seen from Tambellini this season. He deserves to stay up and continue to get time.
I thought Shremp did too…nothing great, but nothing bad. Just more time needed.

Ppl who I feel time is def over for – sim, comeau.
I think ppl here like Comeau, but I don’t see his value. Maybe his line combo??

Streit is struggling this year, not sure what’s up. Bailey looks like this is his rookie year and last year he didn’t think, just played, looked more comfortable.

  197. avatar Mike Olivo says:

To the haters…we have 7 points in 11 games with a talent-less 3rd and 4th line. We have 2 good defenders (if you still consider Martinek any good). We have 2 decent goalies. They have only played terribly in 4 games. If you look at the rosters of the teams we have similar point totals too, they have way better players. It’s growing pains people, and realistically who had this team getting more than 65 points?

  198. avatar JJ says:

Overall, they’re still more entertaining than last year, right?

After about the third game last year I lost interest. Despite the frustrations this year, I still want to watch this team struggle.

    That’s a positive, right?

  199. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

If some players read this like CB says they do, some are you guys are right in that I’m sure it doesn’t thrill them to see their names bashed and dragged through the mud. I think some fans cross the line of being merely critical to being downright mean. We don’t have to write about puppy dogs and ice cream on here, but we should still show the players respect since we do pull for them and want them all to do well, not to mention many of them are gracious enough to give their time to stop for pics and autographs and help throughout the community. In my opinion, alot of these players aren’t put in a good position to excel more because of coaching and management rather than how they are playing for the most part. So if any players are reading this, although some fans cross the line and can be jerks, most of us here and everywhere else care about you guys and the team. We’ve just been tortured for years and have been frustrated with ownership and management for quite some time now. So don’t take our tough love personally. LOL Go Islanders!!!

  200. avatar Brian in VA says:

JJ I must agree with ya… Last year I gave up after Game 1… This year I waited until the Kid’s opening day game vs. LAK… I tried watching last night and got through the 1st period and gave up… Its hard on the eyes…

  201. avatar Islesfan in Vancouver says:

last year I didn’t pay for center ice because I didn’t figure I’d be missing much, and honestly expected nothing from them. This year we’ve had some tough breaks, some bad plays, some highlights, and the kids seem to be playing a much more entertaining style to watch. Granted, it can be frustrating to root for this team so much and it hurts when they lose. Gervais off the post…Moulson off the side of the net with the goaltender down….KO against the Caps not raising the puck off a JT pass in the slot that seemed like a gimmie…

I’ve followed this team since I was 6 years old. 30 years now of rooting for them. The highs came when I was young, and seemed like it was a guarantee they’d be in the cup finals every year. The next high was with Pierre Turgeon scoring 132 points and despite his shoulder injury when blindsided by Dale Hunter, the Isles still knocked off the Penguins in the playoffs on a “where is he now” David Volek goal. Palffy was a great player and got me excited for a bit, Yashin and Peca gave us a shot of life when they made the playoffs and that Toronto series was agonizing.

This team brings us to another point in Islanders history. They play a style I like to watch. They have some young players who are trying to put the pieces together but you can see something is there. They’re not an NHL team yet, I’m under no delusions about it, but I paid for center ice and I’m going to watch them all season. I don’t expect 70+ points, I do expect to see an effort but I do also know they’ll lose a lot of games this year and be blown out on more than a few nights. I’m going to stick with the program and keep following this team. I’ve seen a lot of highs and lows with this franchise. I would like to see another high, and I think another season of a top 5 pick will help us add to what we have started here, and hopefully continue the rebuild back to respectability.

Isles for life baby. Milbury couldn’t keep me away, Snow would have to do a lot worse than him to make me throw in the towel.

    Patience is key.

The funny thing is “youth movent” can be every team in hockey this year. What team doesn’t have three players who are under 25 years old who they expect to be good or who already are good. In fact the ny Yankees had a impresive youth movement this season with cabrera in center. What’s his name in the bullpen as set up. Jobs is still young as is cano.
To me a legit youth movement is when a team unloads veterans because they have minor league players to bring up who are expected to be good. The isles don’t have those minor league players.
This can’t even be a legit youth movement till two or 3 d man with potential arive n 2 more fowards.

  203. avatar Merrick says:

A lot of folks are talking about last year.

For some historical perspective, last year’s team started off miserably (2-7-1) and (4-9-2), but then started to play well into late November. They even had a chance to go to .500 on Thanksgiving Eve, but blew a 3-0 and 3-1 3rd period home lead to the Penguins before losing 13 of their next 15.

I remember a lot of folks writing off the team in October while others said give Gordon’s system 20 games–and with all the wins in November, I’ll bet everyone here was sucked in until the collapse and we officially went to the youth movement.

Perhaps many of us overlooked the bad play in the 2nd half of last year because we acclimated ourselves to the Tavares/Hedman sweepstakes and believed we’d see some progress this year.

However, regardless of how hard it might be to get Free Agents to come here, what is most irking to me as a fan is that it seems like we didn’t see any effort. Not once did Snow Wang say anything about making an effort to bring in outside talent. Instead, we had a draft party, a Tavares meet and greet to sell tickets, then almost total silence.

With a brutal November road schedule ahead, it’s hard to see an early rebound like we saw last year–even if it’s only a glimmer of false hope.

    After the game last night…
you can sense what direction our lines are going.
Lets be real-the Isles dnt have a 2nd line to match with other teams.

    1st line- Moulson-Tavares-KO (decent)
    2nd line- Tambi-Bailey-Blake C.- (not enough)
    3rd line- Bergy-Frans-Hunter (when he returns-good 3rd line)
    4th line- Thompson-Park-Jackman (good)

As others have stated-we dnt have the talent for a solid 2nd line yet…Im with the crowd that says be patient.

Also- the D needs to play better as a group. Too many mistakes.

I like the team…and the direction we are headed. Anybody that doesnt think we have talent at Bridgeport is crazy. Matt Martin. Thats all Im saying.

  205. avatar Eric says:

People need to stop complaining so much. You complain we’re putting an AHL team on the ice but want to fire the coach for not being able to win against NHL talent with an AHL club. People complain about Nate Thompson like he’s the reason we’re losing. He’s a fourth liner and a penalty killer who’s pretty good on faceoffs. He’s not expected to be a scorer. In case some of you weren’t aware, top tier offensive talent doesn’t typically reside on the 4th line of any team in the NHL. Thompson isn’t the problem. I agree we should just get rid of Sim and let some of our youth play in his place. I find it funny that everybody has already given up and are trashing the recently turned 20 yr old Josh Bailey because he isn’t an instant superstar. “just send him down to BP” seems to be the line. What makes anyone think that any of the guys we have in BP are ready to produce up here? Relax on Bailey he’s a playmaker with no finishers on his wings. Comeau needs to learn from Moulson that going to the net and paying the price is how you score. JT is going to struggle at times, deal with it. JT is not a great skater we all knew that, it was his biggest knock, stop acting surprised about it. Moulson has been a pleasant surprise but nobody seems to want to give credit to Snow and the front office for that. Wang deserves a yes or no answer. It’s easy for us to play with his money but if it was our money we’d be singing the same tune he is. Newsflash, there isn’t a billionaire out there(committed to keeping the Isles in NY) who would want to lose tens of millions of dollars every year because they have a crappy lease in a dilapidated arena with few prospects of having that change. These losses are frustrating but the fact that we’ve been in position to win most of these games late should show us that we have potential here. Playoffs should not have been on anybody’s radar for this season.
