  1. avatar Ethan K says:

Let’s hope we’re 1-0-3 by the end of the night. The Kings are a good team, but if we could keep up with Boston and Pitt, we can beat the Kings. I hope the d-men have their heads in the right place this game.

  2. avatar pete says:

I hope biron gets a shutout today

  3. avatar Michael says:

I hope that Biron can get the shutout. Hopefully it’s a packed house!

  4. avatar Bobby says:

I don’t have the stats in front of me, but I am fairly certain Biron has a great record in day games.

  5. avatar The Mick says:

I like this team. I like the fact that we have two potential stars and very talented players in Okposo and Tavares. Streit is definately a difference maker on defense and we have two front line goaltenders. They’re going to go through some growing pains this year, but at least they are competing in these games and just now have to learn how to close them out.

My hope is that either Biron or Roloson gets hot and Gordon can ride one of them for a few games straight.

  6. avatar Islesin2010 says:

I’d like to see Marty better positionally today. The other night he did a good stop at stopping pucks, but too many times I saw him look lost, scrambling for pucks and getting back into the net. I feel good about today, West coast team playing a 2 p.m. in NY.

  7. avatar Matt says:

the kings are 4-0-1 (tie) in their last 5 trips to the coliseum. the islanders haven’t beaten the kings since the 2002-2003 season. i don’t see a win today.

  8. avatar Staten Islander says:

Lets hope we get a win today. And Josh Baily, the season has started, can you PLEASE show up now?

  9. avatar Chris TMC says:

    Im not worrried about Bailey.
    Lets go Islanders!

  10. avatar nystrom23 says:

We dont need a shutout today….we need a win period!!

  11. avatar KO21 says:

I hope Bailey gets better guys to play with like KO

  12. avatar UIF says:

I think the wildcard is whether the third period meltdown still lingers. That one seemed like it could be a back-breaking loss. It’ll be interesting to see if they just shake it off and play their game or if they come out a little gun shy.

  13. avatar Nawrockstar says:

The way they are playing their hearts out, these boys deserve a win… Lets hope they get it today. I’d also like to wish Trent Hunter a speedy recovery. LETS GO ISLES!!

  14. avatar KO21 says:

I too appreciate Hunter and hope he gets better sooner than later. The guy always finishes his checks unlike most of the team.

  15. avatar Brian in VA says:

This team excites me no lie… Saturday night’s game was fun for 50 minutes… I have bought in, with the center ice preview through 10/24 (still won’t buy it for the full season) and I purchased a royal blue Tavares jersey… This team has almost gotten me fully back… 0-0-3 is not bad… Not that it will happen but I’d would take 0-0-82 LOL! Lets Go Isles and please bring back RR pt. 1 and bring back the nfl films dynasty intro…

  16. avatar examiner says:

Lets give Bailey some time to strike up some chemistry with a couple of line-mates. He’s had his wingers switched often and hasn’t had the time to develop a connection with those beside him.

Maybe he can get in sync with schremp. How about moving Comeau up there? The two played well together last season for a while?

  17. avatar KO21 says:

I hope hunter gets back soon as well. This team needs to be more physical and Hunter always finishes his checks.

  18. avatar 2Bit says:

I’m an Islanders fan and have been living in L.A for 5 yrs now. Although this is the first Kings team I’ve been excited about watching since I moved here I still hope the Isles blow them out today! Gotta love watching hockey at 11 am :)

  19. avatar dose says:

josh bailey is the least of this team’s problems. the guy is barely 20 and is getting tons of experience. by the time this team is ready to compete he will be a complete and valuable center ice man.

  20. avatar Blizzard says:

….not worried about Baily. Worried about our D. Hate day games when im at work!!!!!

  21. avatar UIF says:

Hmm…Isles radio feed isn’t working off their site. Anyone else have that problem? I have the Kings feed, just wondering if anyone else can’t pick up the Isles or if it’s just me.

  22. avatar 303Joe says:

No problem with rotating goalies nobody has played well enough to bump the other guy yet. Still very early on.

  23. avatar Fishbulb says:

If we win today and go 1-0-3 that gives us 5 points in 4 games. I don’t think we had 5 points until 10 games last season. Someone can check that.

  24. avatar Nawrockstar says:

    Islanders feed working now

  25. avatar Healy says:

Just want to say this once because it keeps popping up. Can we please stop hating on Bailey? He’s a kid and still trying to find his game. Should he be down in the AHL getting seasoned? Probably. But thats not his fault. I think its absurd how all the praise he had last year is suddenly all about how he sucks 3 games into his second professional season. And the kid’s not old enough to drink. Cut him some slack.

If you want to get on someone, how about Tambellini? I liked Schremp’s play last game, if he keeps it up I’d hope it would be a permanent replacement.

  26. avatar Staten Islander says:

Wrecker looked horrible on that one

  27. avatar Patrick says:

Wow, what an intimidating enforcer. No one will ever hit Tavares or Okposo again.

  28. avatar examiner says:

He got mugged. He’ll get another chance.

  29. avatar Joe says:

Wrecker landed the only punches when they were up. Ivanans threw some cheap ones. Good job by Joel.

  30. avatar Healy says:

Also, watching the game after Marty lost his stick and K.O. gave him his…why didn’t K.O. just go to the bench to get a new one (or line change)? I don’t understand why NHL teams have the stickless individual sit most useless in the zone. The 10-15 seconds of “powerplay” time that grabbing a new stick would grant is nearly always less then the 20-30 that occurs while the opposing team passes the puck around the stickless player. Its on thing I actually like about Torterella’s Rangers. They lose a stick its immediately to the bench.

  31. avatar Brother Rat says:

Well, I’ll be darned–the Isles’ online radio/simulcast feed is working. No more need to hear the LA guys mispronounce our guys….thanks for the heads up, Nawrockstar.

  32. avatar Alan says:

whats the website to listen to the isles on the radio/simulcast feed

  33. avatar TM says:

Wrecker spends more time on his back than a cheap hooker. Wang/Snow should’ve spent for C Orr.

  34. avatar MattyB says:

#30, You don’t give a team a 5 on 3 for the time it takes to go get a new stick. That just wouldn’t make sense. At least the extra body can still block shots.

  35. avatar TM says:

Did Howie just call Richard Park “Brad Park”?

  36. avatar Healy says:

Hi MattyB (34). Its not a 5 on 3, its a 5 on 4, its only 1 stick/player to be replaced. A stickless individual though is very limited in range, so its a 5 on 4 pretty much with or without the body there.

Also for those (like me) stuck at work today. With a little Google savy you can do more then listen. Anyway thats 3 posts so I am now out for this thread. Go Isles!

  37. avatar beatlebailey says:

At the game far short of a sell out and they did the ghey light up your cellphone gimmick which everyone ignored again. Ko and bergy look really good today

  38. avatar JPinVA says:

Not sure why the fans are booing Ryan Smyth. He didn’t give up the 2007 draft, Robert Nilsson and Ryan Oh’ Wherethehellareya for himself…

  39. avatar Alan says:

beatle bailey, how many people do u think are in the building – 12-13K

  40. avatar beatlebailey says:

    Yes I would say 13k

  41. avatar Alan says:

this team will average 13-15K on weekends and holidays and 5-8K weeknights other than rangers

  42. avatar Steve says:

I get the feeling LA is playing “rope-a-dope”. Clogging the middle and keeping us to the outside. Letting us wear out our legs.

  43. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Good point Steve

  44. avatar 318J1 says:

38 JPinVA, they are booing ryan smyth becuse we offered him the island and he spit in our face! who cares about the guys we gave up they might as well be playn in VA lol

  45. avatar 2Bit says:

man Jackman stinks. He had the wide open pass & shoots it. geez!

  46. avatar Islesin2010 says:

38- I would say they are booing him more because he took less money to leave the Island for Colorado than the bad rental… this game has not been the prettiest I’ve seen

  47. avatar misterpink says:

Just sit bruno – awful. Almost as bad as howie rose’s performance so far.

  48. avatar Chris says:

Listening to this game on the radio feed from the internet is about as exciting as watching water boil. Kings just scored as I write this, here comes another loss.

  49. avatar Jim Clark says:

Matt Duchene had an assist in the Av’s win at Boston where they held on to a lead to win 4-3
Not a knock on Taveras who has been very good so far. Just saying.

  50. avatar Smitty031 says:

it sounded awfully loud when the Kings scored. are there a lot of Kings fans there?

  51. avatar Jim M says:

Tavares falls an awful alot on his faceoffs. I think he needs to take some personal lessons with douggy

  52. avatar TM says:

At least they can’t blow a lead in the 3rd coming up. :)

  53. avatar stevedepot says:

    so far.
Weight, Schremp and Comeau has been best line.
We are not finishing enough hits in this game.
Gordon should have complained to the refs when they dropped the puck on false start and over a second ticked off the clock on PP near end of second period there.
Clock read 15.7 seconds and then 14.7 after false start.
    Little things ya notice.

Anyway. I don’t like what I’ve see from Bailey thus far. Looked good in a couple of pre-season games. He bulked up and played a power game. Hasn’t gotten it going so far this year except for that nice feed to Hunter last home game. Maybe my expectations were high on him. Sophomore jinx doesn’t apply here because he didn’t have that great a year last season.
Wake up boys. Come on. Go out banging bodies, force turnovers and crash the net. You have to play physical against a skating team like this or you stand no chance.

  54. avatar mapisles2025 says:

    schremp looks good.

  55. avatar JPinVA says:

Deb Placey, “At least they don’t have a lead to blow”
Now there’s one comedy act that should avoid a profile.
Ryan Smith… 18 games… helped us get into the playoffs… Didn’t want to come back because he wanted to play in the west with a team with a winning tradition that wasn’t being run by a backup goalie.
He’d have been traded for a second round pick anyway as soon as Gordon got here.
I like the Weight-Schremp-Comeau combo… and Jackman gets a high five.

  56. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Greetings from Italy. Very happy that I can listen to the final period. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!

  57. avatar Alan says:

It might be time to see what Trevor Smith can give us. He’s scoring like crazy down there. The Port is 4-0 after another OT win

  58. avatar WM says:

2-0 Kings —– this game is awful!!!!!
    Islanders SUCK!!!!!!!!!
Good luck filling seats this season!!!!!

  59. avatar Chris says:

    Taylor Hall anyone?

  60. avatar Islesin2010 says:

Now its 2-0. Why is it that not one player on this team can make a tape to tape pass, and he other guy actually accept it without the puck bouncing 5 feet off his stick. Bailey looks scared to have the puck, straight frightened

  61. avatar dan from va beach says:

    there’s no BEST anything today!
    this game is BEYOND boring,
NO intensity (from either team, although i bet the kings are fine with that!)
i left work early today to watch the last two periods, what a freakin waste of time,
this game looks NOTHING like the first three….no???????

  62. avatar beatlebailey says:

Sitting at the coli it is obvius how much more talent the kings have than us. This 3rd period has been brutal

  63. avatar JPinVA says:

8 mins left… down by two… I sure do wish Gordon was coaching the Kings.

  64. avatar Ethan K says:

It’s the defense that can’t move the puck at all.

Gervais gets the puck and throws it down the ice every time. Useless because we can’t play the boards or outskate Drew Doughty or Jack Johnson.

Martinek can’t move the puck, Witt can’t skate or control himself, and Streit looks drunk every time he gets the puck today. I very rarely say Streit isn’t playing well but he was terrible today.

On the positive side, I forgot how talented Weight and Bergenheim are.

  65. avatar Dan says:

I miss the radio broadcast. Its tough to hear a TV broadcast online. Now I hear a Kate Murray commercial online. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its bad enough we are losing 2-0.. Looking forward to the ALCS on Friday.

  66. avatar AZS says:

Minus – The Islanders can’t handle a pass …any pass

Minus – You don’t receive any points for going offsides

  67. avatar streit02 says:

For a home game where the Isles are generating absolutely no pressure or offense, Joel Rechlicz should have been utilized more to generate some energy within the game

  68. avatar Metalcoconut says:

This is painful. Get all mad and blow it all in the first. Just painful.

  69. avatar Ethan K says:

And in response to #59, we don’t need Taylor Hall… that’s the last thing we need is another 6′ forward. We need a 6’6″ defenseman who can skate and move the puck. We need a Victor Hedman.

  70. avatar Metalcoconut says:

I hope Tavares can come away with a point if the Isles aren’t going to win.

  71. avatar bergie20 says:

is is too early to start the taylor hall vs. cam fowler debate?

  72. avatar Brother Rat says:

Radio commercial w/ Murray and the TOH Industrial Development Association: “Call us today to tell us how the IDA can work for you.” Um, how about approving the rezoning for the Lighthouse Project? So many SOGs…sounds like we’re making this goalie look good.

  73. avatar Jerky Boy says:

I think he was referring to the isles once again winning the 1st overall pick.

  74. avatar MattyB says:

Agreed. At least we’ll be getting another top 2 pick

  75. avatar 2Bit says:

Just caught a quick glimpse of Snow & Wang in the stands. Looked like they were smiling. This is pitiful.

  76. avatar Islesin2010 says:

Is Butch Goring watching the same game? He has continued to say all day how the Islanders are playing a good game when they are clearly awful today. I like Butch, but enough of the homer talk, the defense has been scrambling all day, and there has been zero offense pressure, besides Schremp and Comeau there wasn’t a forward that had a solid game, maybe throw KO in there too.

  77. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Kings have been outstanding in the neutral zone today. And as a result, as someone pointed out earlier, our D’s have been terrible with the first pass.

  78. avatar Dave Barr says:

WHAT A BORING GAME!!!!!! PLAY RECHLICZ!!!

  79. avatar 2Bit says:

Look how the kings know when to call a timeout!

  80. avatar Pete says:

John Tavares seems to completely shy away from the physical aspect of the game today. He doesn’t hit anyone, even if he is going full speed right at them. He just kinda leisurely skates by. That plus he missed about 3 one timers I believe.

  81. avatar Staten Islander says:

its over? WHEW! thank God, what a snoozfest

  82. avatar TM says:

Attendance 12,145 on a holiday – welcome to LI Tavares, where the owner won’t spend to help you on offense, where you can’t hear games on radio etc.

Scuderi would’ve looked nice if NYI ever spent money.

Gordon should’ve yelled at them with a T.O in the 1st period like Tortorella would’ve done. We stink, top to bottom. From owner to trainer.

  83. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

Does Gordon realize we have Richard Park and not Brad Park? When we need a goal, Park isn’t exactly the one who comes to mind when we need an extra attacker.

Anyway, that was a great snoozefest to watch. I’d rather see Tamby in there than the Wrecker right now. This team needs skill players desperately.

  84. avatar FantasyIsles says:

So this is what Wang calls rebuilding?!

Is it any wonder the Town doesn’t trust him with building anything?

    Bring back Spano!

  85. avatar Dan says:

12,145 is pretty bad. Its going to be a long year. Is the draft looking good again next year?

  86. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I’m all for adding size and toughness to this team and it should be the focus but if you get a chance to draft a Taylor Hall you do it! Same for Cam Fowler but I’d take Hall over anyone. He’s exceptional and he plays a big need position of LW for the Isles, where there is no elite talent.

Either one and I’ll be estatic.

Although the Isles and some misinformed writers try telling us that the veteran defense is a strength it’s a lie. The defense is terrible. Sit Geravis for Hillen.

Improving the defense would improve so many facets of the game and take pressure off the young forward groups.

I ask how do you expect any production from the second PP unit when it features Sim, Martinek, and Geravis?

That is just another reason Isles need to improve the defense because they have no one to run the point after Streit. Martinek and Geravis shouldn’t be on the PP (or on the roster).

I want to see Bergy and Comeau get PP time.

Lost a lot of respect for Ivanans for not answering the bell for round 2 after his cheap shot tactics. One thing I’m not enjoying about the NHL is the lack of respect the players are showing each other.

Bailey looked fantastic in the preseason. I’m not going to worry about him as long as they keep saddling him with horrible wingers.

Good job by all the fans who boo’ed Ryan “The Jerk” Smyth. Dude, never had any intention of staying and used the Isles. He should have either told Snow so he could have traded him for value or committed to the Isles and worked hard as hell to recruit other players. Either way I’m glad he’s not an Isle.

  87. avatar Ethan K says:

John Tavares fanned BIG TIME… that was the shot.

Surprised Scott Gordon knew he had a timeout…

Realistically, here’s my pluses and minuses for the game:

    PLUS:

-The first line played well once again.

-Rob Schremp, Doug Weight, and Sean Bergenheim all played well.

-Andy Sutton played somewhat physical. It was an improvement.

-Marty Biron is a real goaltender.

    Minuses:

-Scott Gordon’s horrible coaching, time after time. For the past year, I’ve felt like every time they go into the locker room, Gordon says to the team “Ok, you played well. Now save some energy by continually dumping the puck and not finishing checks.” They outhit the big Kings 19-2 after the first period… WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?! You can’t stop playing physically after 20 minutes!

-1 shot on goal in 3 powerplays… tell me what skill that Radek Martinek possesses to put him on the ice on the PP unit. Tell me what skill that Martinek possesses that makes him an NHL player. He’s horrible. I blame this on Gordon. Unscratch Tambellini and put him on the point.

-Bailey still invisible. This is because he’s buried on the third line.

-Gervais either turning over the puck or icing it.

-Brendan Witt drawing stupid penalties (lead to the first goal), and going offsides.

-The fact that Alexander Frolov can keep the puck away from all 5 Islanders at once.

Hopefully we end the season with 0 wins, so that everyone can realize that Coach Gordon is useless, so that he can get fired and we can get Cam Fowler.

  88. avatar FantasyIsles says:

The NYI Organization has been hijacked by a duplicitous real estate developer Trump wannabe; not only should Isles fans not line up like lemmings and march for his “Lighthouse”, they should boycott this entire charade and force his hand.

Only then will we have an owner who is truly interested in the TEAM AND FANS and keeping the Islanders in the NY area.

    Bring back Spano!
