    WOW…

  2. avatar CJCB says:

zzzz yawn zzz yawn zzzzz yawn. Our 4th line played GREAT!!! Yeah!!! Way to roll 4 lines. Great effort. WEAK!

  3. avatar Oren says:

If you put a minor league team out there (Jackman, Thompson, Meyer) and sprinkle in some borderline NHL’ers (Park, Martinek, Hillen), along with has beens (Weight, Witt)and never was’s or never will-be’s(Sutton, Gervais, Bergenheim, Comeau) and other teams droppings (Shremp. Moulson,Roloson, Biron) and not yet ready or overhyped players (Tavares, Okposo), You have your 2009-10
NY Islanders!! Okposo is good but Islanders fans tend to hype up a player like him because he is so rare to us. A decent player. 20-25 goal tough 2nd line wing is what Okposo will always be. Borderline 3rd line on real good team. Tavares will be a PP specialist 30 goal max type of guy. There is NO Crosby or Malkin on this team or even Staal. NO Fluery. What are we “re-building” into???….a medicore team?

  4. avatar Oren says:

    *mediocre

  5. avatar The New Isles GM says:

How is Wang going to expect people to pay money and show up to a game when he and Snow can’t put a decent 20 man roster together. I’ll watch my games from home. No need to spend money on a bunch of plumbers…

  6. avatar Oren says:

Woops! Forgot Bailey, he fits into the “overhyped and not yet ready” category. Sorry, I’m done. Had to vent my true feelings.

  7. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

    Better team, you say. Hmmm…

  8. avatar rob d says:

What’s the excuse for Gordon this time?

Snow is at fault for doing a terrible job of molding this team this summer, but I’m sure this current team can put forth a much better effort than tonight.

That might have been the worst Islander game I have ever watched! Wow, that was awful!

Enough with the excuses! We can’t sit through 74 more of these snoozfests!!!! Change is needed! Something!

  9. avatar rob d says:

Great points, Oren! Now you need to critique the owner, GM, and coaches!

  10. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

    When DP is coming back?;)

  11. avatar Gaters says:

This team was out coached, out played, and its lines were messed up, and the PK sucked, the PP sucked and they were unorganized (too many men on the ice two times). It is a shame that we can’t seem to play basic 4 lines of hockey rotating on a regular basis. The best lines tonight by far were Thompson, Jackman, and Park. Put Jackman on the PK and the PP.

  12. avatar Justin says:

I hate to pile on Bailey and he even scored tonight, but I hope the Isles don’t regret not picking Colin Wilson that year. I fear another Nilsson-Parise situation.

  13. avatar Alan says:

Jeff Tambellini and Blake Comeau might be the two worst players in the NHL. How many give aways by Comeau tonight. So much dead weight on this team, and I dont mean only the veterans

  14. avatar Eastonhockey says:

Oh boy 70 games till the wonderful draft party… No NHL team can rock a draft party like the isles kudos to Wang n snow foe rocking July draft partys evfen better then millstein did.

  15. avatar Alan says:

As much as I’d love Taylor Hall on draft night, this team is in dire need of a stud Dman – I’ll take Hall’s junior team Cam Fowler

  16. avatar Adam says:

I’m sorry Oren, but okposo is a first liner all the way. He might have the best toe drag move in the league. Also, I can’t get mad at Wang and Snow for putting out this team. Everyone is acting like free agents just want to come here and all we have to do is throw the money out there. It is not that simple. Let’s look at the fact that this is pretty much the same lineup they had at the end of last year when they were playing good hockey, except bailey, nielsen, okposo, hillen, comeau, bergie, and the other young guys are all a year older. Plus we added john tavares and got rid of dead weight andy hilbert. The fact that the team is not competing is not because of the lineup. It is the coaching.

  17. avatar Chris TMC says:

Yes this game absolutely sucked. And yes something needs to be done because this aint cutting it. But knowing that doesnt make me want to run and join the drama club if you know what I mean.

  18. avatar Matt says:

this joke is such a franchise and even with another last place finnish, we will see the same crappy result next year!

  19. avatar Gaters says:

Right on comment #16 and besides having many of the same guys as last year, the coach isn’t playing them all the same. Jackman kept us in a lot of games last year on the PK for sure and just clearing the puck etc. now he just sits on the bench. It’s hard to know what is going on but it’s easy to know what to expect next game because it will be the same ol samo

  20. avatar Jim Clark says:

that was a real “coups de pied demonde de bout”…what babelfish says is french for “old fashioned butt kicking”

  21. avatar Isles fan in CA says:

    Underachievers!

  22. avatar Matt H. says:

Lamenting not getting enough ice time for Tim Jackman says a lot about the state of this team.

That said, I disagree with Oren’s negative take. Clearly, I see where you are coming from but putting a 30-goal ceiling on JT after 8 games is absurd.

Guys/gals – this is a rebuild which is a long-term process. The Isles suck this year. We all know it and to blame it on the coaching is way off base. The team is terrible – it has at best 3 top 6 forwards and 1 top 4 D. The goaltending situation, though we have quantity now, is still less than intimidating.

This season is all about developing the young guys and getting in position to draft Taylor Hall or Cam Fowler. It sucks to say that after game #8. But we all know it is true. Nothing would be worse for this team’s future than to battle for the final playoff seed this season. That gets us nowhere. Someplace we have been for what seems like a lifetime.

  23. avatar Oren says:

Adam and Gaters you are kidding right? Jackman kept us in games last year? Okposo 1st liner?? Has exactly 1 goal. Don’t overate someone because its the best you have. Our fourth line is a joke too. As the first line is the worst 1st line in hockey, the fourth line is the worst fourth line in hockey. OH YAEH GATERS” we need to play Jackman MORE, that way we would do a lot better, uhu, thats the ticket.

  24. avatar Bryan says:

    Oren
Are you serious? Tavares is going to be a power play specialist at best? Okposo a 3rd liner on what team? The kids in his 2nd full year in the NHL. Neilsen is in his 2nd game back in 6 weeks.
This team is definitely a year or two away from even resembling an NHL team, but I for one like Hillen(also in his 2nd year), Moulson, and Streit to stick as part of the core of the team. That is 6 players to build around. Assuming we can develop one or two more top NHL prospects over the next two or three years, then we have a solid core. That is when Snow must delve into Free Agency.

  25. avatar StevieL says:

So this is what up graded goaltending looks like!!
Does Gordon ever get fired up!! Coach needs scream or break a stick or throw something! Lead!!!!!!
The thing about Josh is that I know he is young and developing, but developing what? He doesn’t shoot, create, carry the puck, skate very well or play physical! I would bet on 40% of his shifts he never touches the puck! He is content to float and try to get off a quick pass. Hey Josh!! Got to get your nose dirty once in awhile!!Nice hustle on the goal though!!:)

  26. avatar Justin says:

I do wonder what exactly the Islanders saw in Bailey. I assume it was his playmaking because he’s never going to be a big goal-scorer or a physical player. Sure would be nice to see him at least show some flashes of that in his second season.

  27. avatar JPinVA says:

125 days to pitchers and catchers.

  28. avatar George. Dyker Heights.Brooklyn says:

I stopped going to Islanders games when I moved to brooklyn 5 years ago. Sorry I didn’t stop I reduced it to 2-3 games a year. Commute kills me at gamestarts. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing like being at a live game thats if we can manage a somewhat full house. For now I’ll watch the games at home were I can curse as much as I want and I can throw things to get out my frustration. I hope that I am wrong but people lost interest in this team, and if or when Wang builds a new rink yea we will get excited fill the house up but for how long, and if ticket prices get crazy because new buildings and bringing in top players will do that then we will be back to square one. hopefully a winning team will bring us back in, regardless of price, but i don’t think so not on the Island, times have changed it’s not the 80′s anymore.
I know there’s guys out there saying relax we are rebuilding remember just like pit and others. Of course you build with the draft and you build within but you also bring in guys who are players with experience who will help out our youngsters. How long do we have to wait for Dehann, Martin and many others. How long have we been waiting for Tambellini(worthless) and bergenheim yes Bergenheim. I’m sorry but you cant rebuild the ahl into the nhl plain and simple.

  29. avatar Daniel says:

This entire organization is a disaster. You have an owner who bought the team for no other reason then having them as a bargaining tool. You have a “GM” who makes some pretty questionable draft day moves, and a team with maybe 5 legit players who can make a difference. I am not the biggest fan of Gordon, but I don’t think it is fair to blame him. If this were a team full of some real talent and they still played this way then yes, Gordon would be to blame but that is far from the case. It is really discouraging being a fan of this team. Hopefully they can get things together, and if not, this better be the last season of them sucking because its hard to take.

  30. avatar Oren says:

Bryan, answer me this…. do we have a Parise, Gaborik, Crosby, Carter, all in our division for example. Would you rank Tavares ahead of any of them or Okposo? Neither has proven anything. I’ve been following the Islanders since I was 5 in 1979. I’ve seen a lot, many have seen more than me, but one thing I will say is this is the least talented team I’ve ever seen the Islanders have by far. Its definitely the worst first line in hockey. And worst team period. I stand by Okposo being a hard nosed good two way banger with some offensive skill. Will score 20-25 a year and be a stand up guy. Exellent second line player that fills more than one role…very valuable player… All-star, not in my opinion. I dont think he’ll develop into that. Neilson was afraid to get hit tonight. He isn’t the only Isle tonight…but Neilson was scared ona couple of plays, Hillen too. Frans is Nothing special.

  31. avatar Oren says:

Don’t think Tavares will turn into PP specialist? Where have 6 out of his 7 points come on??? You guessed it, the PP. He is too slow-a-foot to control the game the way it is today. Granted its early and he is only 19 but i dont think he’ll every win the selke or be a banger. Mark my words Tavares 30 goal guy very one dimensional. Thats what he’ll turn out to be. Not a bust, but not a boom.

  32. avatar Bruce says:

why are so many people thinking that this team would win all these games if there was a different coach. does everyone expect this team to win 50 games?? everyone knows what the plan for this team was. we started this rebuild last year, it’s going to take a while. we finally had some good drafts but the prospects need time. Aaron ness and matt Martin and Justin dibennedetto need time to develop. Garth can’t sign anyone so he needs to fill the depth chart with bad players while prospect develop. be patient people. Gordon has done nothing wrong. his system will work when the correct players are in it.

  33. avatar Mikey Cavs says:

I’m thinking that the reason that the team is looking so bad is because we have such a terrible defense. I was always a big big Martinek supporter but he’s just not doing it right now and that along with Sutton and the slew-footed Witt just makes us so vulnerable that even Mark Streit cannot make up for these other slouches. Meyer & Hillen are undersized and Gervais….we are so undermanned on D!

  34. avatar Bryan says:

    Oren,

I agree we do not have a super star, but my point was that Tavares will score 50 goals atleast once in his career. Okposo will consistently score 25-30. I believe IF Neilsen stays healthy he will score 25-30. Bailey needs to be sent down but I think he can develop. We need a few more top NHLers, and then we throw the money at a superstar. Just like Hossa could be had the last two years, unless we get ridiculously lucky, we arent drafting one and we arent in the position to sign one. Nows not the time, we can throw as much money as needed when we are a step or two away.

  35. avatar StevieL says:

#32 Bruce. We all know Gordon doesn’t have the horses but the problem I have with him is that he dosn’t seem to inspire or light a fire. A young team should never be able to mail one in like tonight! Mtl shredded his system with their speed! Honestly ask yourself if any player is better because Gordon is leading him!Is he getting everyones best. Does he command respect, or is he as overmatched as his team? I am willing to see him through this season, but efforts like tonight are unacceptable!!He blamed tonight on poor “puck management”??What the heck is that? Go out skate , hit someone and shoot, and if not, get someone here who will! Enough hiding behind , our young guys are developing!!Guess what, not from what I’m seeing! It will be interesting to see the rematch in a couple of days to see what changes Gordon makes!

  36. avatar Merrick says:

I’m a season ticket holder and this team as constructed by Snow Wang–even with a few bright rays of sunshine–wants to make me puke.

Never before have I felt so hopeless in October. I don’t even care about three-point games elsewhere in the conference and the season is not even three weeks old!

For those who say this team is just like last year’s, take a look at our defensemen. With the exception of Streit, they are either on the downside of their careers or 6/7 D-men at best. I like Radek, but think he is toast physically; the extra step and quickness which made him stand out are gone. How many battles for loose pucks do these guys lose in their own end? How many crisp breakout passes do they complete? Who digs the puck quickly out of the corner, skates a few strides and banks a puck off thee boards to clear the zone? The only reason this play hasn’t been more disasterous this year is because no one ordinarily comes out hyped to play against us as the Habs did tonight. Of course, when the burners are tunred up late in the game–we all know where this leads. Indeed, when we say we can only win when we work harder than the other team–what does that mean when the other team works at least as hard as us? Does management think we are playing a bunch a mannequins.

I’d be happier if Wang flat out said that the financial situation of this team means we cannot afford to spend more than the cap minimum than the tired old line that we are rebuilding and have a solid foundation.

Wang has only himself to blame for the ineptitude of the hockey operation and while I’m generally a hopeful person–I don’t see much hope for this team with Wang as the owner.

I’ll be there Saturday to root for the Isles, admire Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin, maybe see Bruno out of the doghouse (can he be any worse?) and hopefully get home to see the Yankees clinch.

Only 37 more home games to go.

  37. avatar Oren says:

    Bryan,
From you mouth to Gods ears! I pray your right but I have roughly 20 years of bad drafting and bad decisions and basically bad karma to prove you wrong!

  38. avatar miket239 says:

    #1 overall pick 2010. Yay.

  39. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Martinek is one of the worst d-men in the NHL and was 100% responsible for the first goal against.

His little buddy Geravis is another one of the worst.

I’d be in favor of scratching Witt but who would you replace him with?

    No effort.

I don’t like seeing 4 Canadians on Jackman when he is trying to get after one of their guys while guys like Schremp stand their watching. Schremp seems like he has run his course he provides not much. Could be this years Andy Hilbert and Tambs……I wish you luck elsewhere. Take Sim with you.

Everyone start buying your #4 Taylor Hall jerseys.

  40. avatar jonsson3 says:

    one word…. Fugly

We need a complete defense overhaul!

    1940!

  41. avatar mike says:

What’s Ovechkins over under for points on Saturday night with this wonderful defense

  42. avatar jonsson3 says:

    probably 4 mike

  43. avatar Will C. says:

Everyone needs to relax. It’s gonna be a long year. Just enjoy the ride and cheer when you see the kids do something right. Get another high pick, get the lighthouse wrapped up, sign Kovalchuk and move on. I liked Franzy tonight. I think when we get supporting talent Franzy, JT, and KO will be even more dangerous. GO ISLES!

  44. avatar Justin says:

Yep, this team needs a complete overhaul on defense but I dont think any changes are coming until next season. We are stuck with the awful group we currently have. Maybe next year we have De Haan, Hamonic and a free agent perhaps.

  45. avatar Jim Clark says:

    Bright side time: (points-wise)
    We are better than Toronto.
    We are better than Minnesota.
We are about the same as Florida.

At this rate we will have the best team in 2025

  46. avatar Islebethere4u says:

    PLUS – hmmmmmmmm……nothing

MINUS – hmmmmmmmmmmm…..everything, can’t even say the shorthander was much of a highlight considering the rest of the play tonight.

  47. avatar goislesgo105 says:

I wouldn’t mind losing a game by the score of 5-1 if I thought that this team could win a game 5-1. Does anyone (including you C.B)think that this team could win a game 5-1? Totally disheartening!

  48. avatar mtrico says:

Watched the Yankees, so i didn’t see too much of it. But that game was equally a disaster.

  49. avatar MattyB says:

Guys its the second year of a rebuild? Did you really expect us to win the cup this year? They’re going to have games like this. Why? Because they’re really not that good. There are some good pieces on this team, but give them more than a year or two of a real rebuild and then trash them. Does anyone remember Bailey is 19, if you wanna bash someone who didn’t turn out the way he was advertised, then bash Tambs. Another high draft pick couldn’t hurt this team.

  50. avatar doc says:

UGLY. Just watched on DVR after the Yankee game. UGLY!!!

    DOC

  51. avatar roger ramjet says:

    overspeed!

  52. avatar Eastonhockey says:

If baily was a 2nd round pick he probably never cracks a NHL lineup. Travis green of all people as a rookie was productive as a 3rd liner scoring about 20 goals. Baily? If he has 20 shots on net by December I’d be suprised. Mick vukota created more shots.

  53. avatar Al L says:

Oren! If you can state and conclude that Tavares will be nothing more than a PP specialist and slow afoot, you may be watching these games but not observing. Tavares, while not flashy,or possessing breakaway seperation like speed is deceptively quick moving from point A to point B. If you haven’t noticed, there are long strides to his skating and he has no trouble moving into the offensive zone. His vision is extraordinary and he displays a knack for being one step ahead of a play mentally. When a kid comes into the League with a reputation as a pure goal scorer, other facets of his game is usually overlooked. Plain and simple,he can make plays, whether finding a linemate with a pass instantly or stickhandle himself into any nook and cranny on the ice. You sound like you are trying to blow your own horn and impress others here with your hockey knowledge. Do I think the Isles roster is weak? Absolutely! Our defensive core is atrocious. I don’t know what has become of Martinek. He has gotten progressively worse every season, when he has been available. I don’t even like the way Streit has played the past three games, including the Carolina game. That said,it is foolish to conclude what Okposo,Tavares,Neilson and Comeau will be at this point of their careers. I can remember back in the late 80′s,thru 1990 how Derek King struggled offensively. It wasn’t until physically maturing at age 25 when he became a 35-40 goal scorer. I don’t see where Neilson shyed away from contact. On the contrary he stuck his nose into traffic behind the net and tried like hell to keep a forecheck going. Although I don’t expect him to become a scoring machine,he is a nifty playmaker and quite creative. No doubt tonight was a debacle. Montreal was all over the ice for 60 minutes. I realize you are frustrated, but the verdict on these kids is not in. I even like the way Schremp stays with the puck on his shifts. The kid has always had tremendous scoring and playmaking ability, and is only 23. I’ve seen it at the AHL level. What he must begin to do,is make a bee line to the net instead of circling the wagon. Ditto Tambellini, who I admit is running out of chances. Out here in Hershey Pa,we had a 28 year old in Alexander Giroux who floated around the AHL for years, scoring at a decent pace. Last season he scored 60 regular season goals and added 15 more leading his team to a Calder Cup. Tonight he scored the first goal for the Caps and recorded the shootout winner. I understand he was the best player on the ice. I’d love to see him play again for the Hershey Bears, but it could very well be his time to stick, even at nearly 29 years of age! These guys aren’t molded in a cookie cutter. They are all different. We are going to have to exhibit more patience as difficult as it may be. What does disturb me is the one dimensional style of Gordons coaching. Not only do his players run out of gas in the 3rd period, but consistently leave themselves vulnerable to odd man rushes. What makes the situation worse,is the deficiency of quality D men. If you noticed,I didn’t mention Josh Bailey. Should this kid develop into a legit NHL’er,I will be quite surprised. Having watched this Game since the early 60′s,I don’t remember seeing a youngster so ill equipped to play at the NHL level. His balance and skating is not up to par and his stickhandling doesn’t allow him to maintain puck possession for more than a few seconds. Regardless,we can either watch this team and have patience,or just say the hell with it. I completely understand doing either.

  54. avatar okpososcores21 says:

This is rediculous im tired of hearing all the excuses by you guys “O this is a rebuild ” It takes time” Sure but when you think your guna win games by throwing ur number one pick and your young unproven nhl players against proven nhl players and exspect them to be the difference you gota be insane obvi thats what our gm and owner are hoping for but they know nothing about building up young player to stardom. It starts by having a good team they need to build confidence quick. The only way to do that is to throw them in with legitimate nhl players there they can learn what to do Im sorry but Doug Weight just doesn’t cut it for a guy like tavares. If the team continues to loose and play as atrocious as they are playing (ex Cant make a pass cant hit the net) Cant get out of the zone cleanly. Cant retrieve pucks Cant make plays) Its gunna totally ruin the confidence in a guy like tavares(Who is hoping to make the playoffs, Fat Chance) okposo bailey(weve already seen what its done to bailey Comeau Bergenheim)The resuslts are not good. If this continues we gunna have major problems cuz the youngsters are gunna basically be scarred for life maybe to the point of unfixable(I certainly hope not). Point is for the last 2 seasons we have barely made any moves in free agency we need to get the player now not b4 we establish young guys. We can’t exspect them to be the saviors of the team its to much preasure on any of them. Alot of you complain about the goalie situation are you kidding me 40+ shots tonight and alot of quality good ones dont blame the goaltenders. Look at a franchise liek the red wings they get veterans they do alot of building within but they bring up one or 2 young guys dont exspect them to do much learn from guys like lindstrom, holmstrom etc a year or 2 later these guys are superstars. This works, what the islanders are doing is rediculous and they are gunna loose there fan base any support they had for the lighthouse etc. One more thing this is the worst team ive ever watched play professional hockey and ive followed the isles since the early 90s

  55. avatar Jeff says:

Let me get this straight, on a team that has maybe 6 or 8 guys that belong in the NHL, Kyle Okposo is a second line player?

  56. avatar okpososcores21 says:

Im also tired of hearing we are waiting for the prospects to develop o so we can throw them in the meatgrinder to and ruin any chance they have to be sucessful You can’t exspect to much from a guy just breaking into the nhl if it happens it should just be an added bonus to what you already have exspecting guys like comeau berganheim baily to win games is crazy they probably could crack an nhl lineup elsewhere with an established team on a third line and probably suceed and maybe than blossom into a great 20 goal scorer in a few years okposo has the opportunity to be great givin the right circumstances but with this team its deffinitly not the right circumstances for any one to turn into something great. Sorry bout the long posts im just so frustarted with this team and this is where i can get it all out along with some insight albe it negative but insightful

  57. avatar Ethan K says:

Oren, If you’ve been following this team since 1979 and have those comments to say, I’d recommend following a different sport. Kyle Okposo is not a second-liner at best.

What position did the Penguins come in the year after drafting Crosby? That’s right- dead last. Fleury was drafted in ’03, Malkin was drafted first overall in ’04, Crosby in ’05, Jordan Staal in ’06. They also spent money to sign solid veterans like Gonchar. So 2003 until 2009. Six years, and are any of the Penguins fans moaning and groaning like all of you are right now? No, because their team is nearly unstoppable right now.

Because Kate Murray is a horrible politician, the Islanders are threatened to be moved. This has to be solved before the Islanders leave the CAP FLOOR… MEANING that once we have a real place to play hockey, players will ACTUALLY consider playing for our team. We have almost 20 million that we are allowed to spend. That would be enough for Ilya Kovalchuk, 2 top-4 defenseman, a fighter, and another player.

Kyle Okposo is 21 years old. He has been in the league for exactly 82 games now. In the last 32, he’s had 27 points. Age 21, 1 year of experience, on a last place team, and he’s close to a point a game, and you’re going to say he’s a career second line player? No. Guarantee you he’ll be a point a game, 25+ goal a year power forward.

As for John Tavares, HE’S PLAYED 8 FREAKING GAMES IN THE NHL, AND HAS 7 POINTS, WITH 3 GOALS! HE’S 19, AND ON A WEAK TEAM… you’re going to say he’s only going to be a 30 goal guy, and one dimensional? REALLY? You know who else people said that about? A guy named Mike Bossy, who ended up being one of the greatest players to ever play in the NHL. Not everyone can start out in the NHL with 100 point seasons. Joe Thornton had 7 points in his first season in the NHL, 41 in the second, and 60 in the third. None of those sound like a first line player. Since then, he’s had 750 points in 630 games. All-star would be an understatement. As for Neilsen, if you actually watched him skate, you’d notice that he’s not as horrible as you think. He’s a good skater, good puck handler. He can develop into a good dangler in the near future. He’s no Datsyuk, but he can be a solid offensive player no doubt. Gotta love him in the shootouts too.

The problem this team has is simply the defense. Martinek plays weak and can’t move the puck, Witt looks like he skates in quick sand, Gervais’ head has been on backwards, Hillen isn’t NHL ready, Meyer isn’t skilled enough for the NHL. Sutton hasn’t been playing too bad lately. He had a few good points the other day, and was playing physically, and I liked how he stood up for Tavares. However, he’s getting old and just came off a foot injury, and needs to improve his skating. Mark Streit is nothing special on the defensive side, but he’s a great offensive d-man. The best offense is a good defense. Our goaltending has also been lackluster, which hasn’t been helpful. Gotta hope DP comes back strong.

GIVE IT TIME. It’s a REBUILD. We lost to the Canadiens, who bought a whole new team this offseason to try to win a cup THIS year. The Islanders got outplayed, plain and simple. The Habs can outplay most teams on a good night. We’re two years into the actual rebuild, and we’re at the salary cap minimum. 2 more good draft years (Cam Fowler please!), a new arena, and another 20 million or so in salary, and we’ll be ready to contend. Scott Gordon will develop his system in the mean time, and learn that sometimes he has to crack the whip and make his players work harder for 60 minutes.

heres an idea bring all the players from bridgeport upa nd keep a few key guys like streit okposo tvares maulson A few seasons ago buffalo had liek 4 or 5 injuries to players brought up players from the afilliate team and played very well and ended up keeping 2 or 3 of those players in the lineup Its time we give some other guys a chance to see what they can do

  59. avatar Ethan K says:

How are we seeing it with Streit? He was one of the top defensive scorers last year.

  60. avatar billy says:

minus-to every player on this team last night
minus- 2 too many men penalties
minus- martinek coughing up the breakaway to gomez

plus- only plus i’m willing to give is when tavs, moulson, and KO were together. Sure we dont want all our eggs in one basket, but when thats the only basket that does anything im thinking its worth it.

That was simply one of the worst isles games ive ever seen period.

  61. avatar CJCB says:

Way to try to fire the troops up fighting a NON fighter, Thompson cant survive the East! Lets see what hes got against Godard, Brashear, Cote, Asham, Etc. Etc.

My guess NOTHING, This team is awful!!

  62. avatar ny711ot says:

Ditto al from hershey…you raise a good point re giroux……guys who are unable to make an immediate impact day in day out should not be here. Otherwise they turn into dave chyzowski…its quite possible with nielsen, bailey, comeau, we are watching the isles destroy what potentially could be decent careers.why couldn’t we have kept nolan and developed these guys at bridgeport where they belong? .again I have a problem with gordon…is it coincidence that the isles go into montreal and actually see real reporters and then go out and look shell shocked? There is no mental preparation for these players and that’s part of the job of an nhl coach…to mentally prepare his players (not as necessary at the A). Gordons assessment.. ‘We saw the game slow’
Interpreted-they didn’t use my overspeed system…implication—these guys, these patheitc underachievers are already tuning him out…and garth..thanks for the goaltending…what a differencve maker thus far!!!

  63. avatar Bobnystrom711OT says:

It’s getting to the point that I can’t even stomach listening to the Rags fan announcer and his side kick on the TV telecast, thank god for the TSN telecast on the dish last night. Did anyone see, and I again I was watching a real broadcast with pro announcers, the reaction of the bench when the Isles got a too many men penalty in the 3d? As flash was asking who’s it on, all the players were looking at him with this lost look, never, EVER, have I seen that from a Isles team, even with Sterling at the helm.

It’s not GOOD fellow Isles fans, and like I have posted before, it starts at the top, as in OWNER and trickles it’s way down. What’s going to happen to Bossy, Trots, Morrow, our ONLY key Hockey people as this thing continues to worsen, and I’m looking way down the road, as this will not get fixed as long as the Wang-Dey-Snow-Flash are steering the ship.

There was so much hope this summer with the drafting of JT, and then it’s been all down hill, no marketing of JT, the firing and disolving of the radio broadcast team, no IPB sponsorship. Ahh, but there remains Sparky, the Ice girls, and let’s not forget that all important mandarin broadcast. Did I miss something?

Total disgust, as we the fans of this once great, proud, and succesful franchise, have been and will continue to be used as pawns in this chess game that relates to nothing more than the $ making metropolis Wang wants, and nothing else.

  64. avatar jackb says:

They continue to lose the battles to the type of players Snow turned away from in the draft. Big, strong, fast and gritty. These speedy small “character” players will not amount to much. Small and weak will lose every time Garth.

  65. avatar hollywood says:

Pretty pathetic. To think what would’ve happebed if Ryan Smyth signed here. Amazing how bad it can get. We r who we r, it’s going to be rough. It does concern me that our young energetic players look worn down. They need a boost, big time. BTW, love the goaltending. Joey Mac and Danis were no different.

  66. avatar Bobnystrom711OT says:

Is Flash aware that time outs are a good tool to use every know and then? Last night’s effort vs. the Habs highlights a clearer picture on the only win so far only 24 HRS earlier, as in ANOTHER blown lead in the 3d.

Radek and Witter are done, Bailey is a bust, and this is the team that Snow put together for the Flash to coach??!!! Coach, that’s rich!

  67. avatar KO21 says:

Oren#4, why in the world would you discredit a kid like Okposo? Kids got the tools to be a heck of a player. Taveras as well.

  68. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

Well, my biggest fear now is that Snow will pass on Taylor Hall with the first pick in the draft. We may need defense but Hall in my opinion is the top draft eligible player right now. Plus this team needs more skill players. Okposo and Tavares can’t do it alone. It’s pretty sad when the draft watch starts in October. I mean, I’m not a Gordon fan but geez, Toe Blake couldn’t have coached that team to a win last night.

  69. avatar Big Dog says:

I’ll tell you what we need. A Sumo goalie.

  70. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

Oh and just for the record this team is being mismanaged by Snow. I’m starting to feel the team is lacking direction, discipline, and focus and that is a reflection on the GM and the coach.

  71. avatar Brian in VA says:

I knew the Isles would be bad this year BUT WE ARE ATROCIOUS (sp?). I really think the Isles may win about 9 games this year. I am dead serious about this! This team is AWFUL! Even when they play decent they turn awful! The race for 9-70-3! Snow nice job baby!

  72. avatar Brian in VA says:

Saturday night at the Coliseum is going to get ugly!!! Caps 8-1!!! I am going to wear a paper bag over my head a week from tonight!! Can you say 1-9-3 soon, I can!

  73. avatar Brunomics says:

Ugh that Cap game saturday is going to be ugly! I love watching Washington play but it’s going to just be an awful awful night watching them walk around the Isles ECHL defense tonight. I know Wang needs the lighthouse but c’mon really is it that hard to get some NHL Caliber defensemen here??? Your at the cap minimum for god’s sake overpay if you have to because you are ripping apart your fan base by icing teams like this!

  74. avatar Jisles says:

I have been a hockey fan and islander fan since 1979. That is 30 yrs of watching, playing and coaching this sport and there is nothing more obvious to me than That this coach needs to GO!. Fire Gordon Immediatley! I am all for rebuilding but the key to rebuidling a team with young players is they need to steadily improve and so far 10 games into this season i dont see that happenning. these players have either stalled in their developement(Okposo,Bergenheim), regressed (Bailey, Gervais,Hillen) and the veteran players seem to have tuned the coach out and have no faith in the coach (Witt, park, Streit)It is time for Wang and Snow to realize that Gordon was the wrong choice. We need a coach who actually has significant NHL experience 5-7 yrs experience with at least some level of success who can teach these young players how to actually play the game at the nhl level and what is expected of them. Gordon does not fit that bill. If you want to build a structure from the ground up you would hire qualified architects to design it, qualified engineers and craftsmen to build it and that is where the problem squarlely is. Snow and Gordon certainly were not fully qualified for their postiions and it is showing. Do they have ability and potential? Sure but because of their inexperience we are seeing a structure that cant get off the ground. As I watch the season so far nothing has changed from last year, blowing leads late in games, young players not progressing, shoddy goaltending, defensive breakdowns etc etc. It is time for wang and snow to admit their mistake about Gordon move on and play it straight for once. Get a real coach in here who knows what he is doing. LETS GO ISLANDERS!

  75. avatar MikeD says:

    Wanger…worst owner in professional sports?!?!?!?

We all know he saved the franchise but consider his hirings, payroll, team performance and outlook.

  76. avatar Brian in VA says:

I scrubbed the schedule and found a record of 15-59-8 for the Isles. Oh well I guess its not that bad!

  77. avatar Merrick says:

    CB-

Witt was with the 05-06 Caps and Cairnes was with the 05-06 Pens–Ovechkin’s and Crosby’s rookie years. Can you ask these guys to compare those teams to the 09-10 Islanders and where they stand against each other in terms of rebuilding? Srengths? Weaknesses? Prs? Cons? Maybe you can ask some of your scout/GM buddies

I’ll bet Witt has some pretty good insights.

  78. avatar KO21 says:

I understand the idea that we might be better off with a coach who actually has experience in the NHL but I also see how having a coach who’s supposed to be good at developing young players. I just hope Garth can stop making rebel moves with the draft and the future of this franchise. This isn’t Garths personal money he’s betting with its the Isles future he’s gambling with

  79. avatar bob l says:

nothing to like from that game other than it’s done with and they get a chance at redemption in a few days…

the team will eventually click, if not, then by game 35-40 you’ll start seeing the bigger changes

  80. avatar Joe G. says:

Im all for a rebuild but it is obviously crystal clear Garth Snow is not the one to rebuild this team. Garth Snow’s poor judgement with the last 2 drafts as well as not picking up some established veterans has set back this team. They are going backwards not forwards. If Wang wants fans to come out and watch this team he has to hire a PROVEN GM who knows what the hell he is doing and will put a competitive team on the ice.Enough of Garth Snow saying he will not bring anyone in here because he doesnt want to take ice time away from the young players. You have to wonder about Wang to. Someone who would keep Milbury around all those years and watch him totally destroy the team would seem to me to also be pretty clueless. Im tired of this year after year. For all you guys that say you have to be patient, what are we being patient for???? Tambelini will all of a sudden turn into a 50 goal scorer and the other young players besides Tavares and okposo will develop.

  81. avatar Scott W says:

To quote Bobby Clarke: Rebuilding is just an excuse for losing!!!

  82. avatar O. Bender says:

Last season injuries were blamed for last place finish. What will it be this season? I hope the mgmt will be open enough to admit its mistakes in assembling a sub par team. Sad.

  83. avatar IsleofNJ says:

The Habs were all over us like white on rice ALL NIGHT. No sustained pressure to speak of from the Isles.
Burn the tape of this one !

  84. avatar IsleofNJ says:

Hey Bossy, do you have Al’s phone number?
    Thks

Hello, Mr Arbour….this is Scott Gordon the current Islander coach.
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ?!

  85. avatar purplesmurf says:

Bailey continues to play like a girl, the coach has delusions of grandeur and sorry but there is just way too many Americans running this team (into the ground) Wang,Dey,Snow,Gordo…how many Cups have these great hockey minds collected? lol..a complete and utter joke, Tavares must be embarrassed to be stuck on such a pathetic disgrace of a hockey team.

  86. avatar purplesmurf says:

    p.s.
Brenden Witt cut your damn hair, aren’t you like 35?

  87. avatar George. Dyker Heights.Brooklyn says:

For all you guys who costantly say relax did you think we were making the playoffs this year we are in a rebuild period!! sorry I have to disagry bigtime. We are not rebuilding we are destroying. Do you guys see the look on these guys faces on the bench. There is absolutely no leadership on this team at all especially from coach Gorgon. I’ve never seen a guy behind the bench with this constant freakin look on his face(like what happened now look, not again). I don’t know what he does in practice but on the bench cause that is what I see and can talk about Gordon looks like a dead log. Maybe he needs to get benched for a few games. As for everyone who complains about our goaltending, they are as good as the team who plays in front of him, it’s not like we pisked up a Brodeur type goalie. I blame Gordon and I blame the team for not responding to him.

  88. avatar BD Hendo says:

If Wang builds his Lighthouse the way he built this hockey team, it will be a ghost town!

  89. avatar terry says:

Watching this team play is very hard, Bailey should be sent to the ahl bring up Smith. Gordon needs to show a little emotion. snow needs to make an informed decision and try to make a trade”not that anybody wants what we have”to shake things up.FIRE GORDON HE STINKS AS AN NHL COACH.One plus we dont have to watch ANDY HILBERT

  90. avatar EAF says:

looking at the schedule I don’t see any wins this or next week

  91. avatar islefanofMTL says:

Hey isles fan relax it was only the 8th games of the season ok they played a terrible game yesterday but they gave a huge effort vs the Hurricane.they need some adjusment in D but i realy think its too early to say they will have a season like 08/09 just give hem the chance the fit all puzzle part together and we will be proud of our team they need us behind them not against!!!!
