Awesome showing guys. Thanks again CB. These chats are fun.
Just goes to show the interest is back for the Islanders. Put a competitive team on the ice and the fans will be back at the NVMC too, just like in 01-02 and 02-03.
The chat was a ton of fun, thanks Chris for being right there to answer q’s and cheer along with us. Do it again soon!
Great job with the chat Chris, it was fun. Hope you can do it again soon.
Wow, this seems to have gone really well! Thats great to see.
I know since you had to hand approve each comment it musve been a hassle for you CB, but I hope this happenes again in the future. it was def fun, especially when everyone complained down 2-0 and then were loving the team again at 2-2.
BTW, CB- Fanhouse should add this blog to the list of team blogs they have when you scroll down on their main NHL page. It makes sense since they are sponsoring it!
Even though I can’t stand anything ESPN its good to see Okposo made the Top 10 plays with his spectacular goal, it ranked #7.
Side note - Anyone going to the game in Boston Saturday night?
In comparison to last year we improved by signing Roloson, Biron and Tavares.
I just don’t get why didn’t get 1 or 2 more good players. Especially a D-man like Beauchemin, Komisarek or Ehrhoff. Or an offensive player like Cheecho. If we had 2 good solid players more, we now had 4 points.
good comeback to tie it up. great turnout for PB. and, a point!
Howie Rose said why we lost the game alot last night, “MISSED THE NET”. Let’s get more shots on net boys!
Jonsson, I agree that that was something which stood out in my head while watching the game, “(insert name) missed the net.” That and the fact the refs were brutal. The officiating has gotten ridiculously bad and I’m not afraid to say it because Gary can’t fine me.
i see why philly let biron go.
I have never played hockey under a coach, but one thing that stood out to me that didn’t make any sense was JT taking offensive zone faceoffs during the PP when Weight was back at the point. Couldn’t KO drop back to the point, Weight take the faceoff and JT move to the wing? Then if Weight won the faceoff and the Isles started to set up the PP, couldn’t everyone shift back to their normal spots? I counted a few times when JT lost those offensive zone draws. I know he is learning on the fly but we also should be doing our best win games too. Correct me if I am wrong…
I think we would have won with an enforcer in the lineup… Geez we were really beaten up by their tough guys eh?
sorry I missed the chat. Didn’t realize it was going on. sounds like a cool idea. BTW…
When are we going to get some enforcer muscle on this team?
HOW ABOUT move Okposo pulls out of his ARS last night to score that goal? WHEW!!!! insane talent that kid has.
this msg+2 is a bunch of garbage. It took me over an hr to find it on time warner.
I just don’t understand why these guys can’t get the shot on net. Am I missing something?
I loved the wild swings in the live chat.
“This team is horrible!” “God we stink!” “We’re a bunch of AHLers!”
…
“KO!!!!” “Yeah! let’s get ‘em!”
Good times. Looking forward to the next one.
sick of this enforcer talk
Enforcer has not stopped any cheap shotting last few years for other teams.
Younger players will learn to keep their head up anyway during course of play. Like T last night, sutton went over to V and let him hear it.. but in the end Coach C had to tell T to keep his head up or it would end up on a swivel at the NHL level
Rather have four lines that can threaten then waste one line on jackman - rechliz- thompson
#21 can you spell out peoples names next time?
t,v,coach c?
21- You really think our fourth lines threatens?
I don’t, Jackman got plastered in the second and no one did anything then he didnt come back since. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was banged up. I wasnt concerned about the JT hit I was more concerned about Neil getting in Birons face without anyone saying anything….thats wrong.
….loved the chat!!! Sitting on the couch with a laptop with fellow fans was pretty cool…..also we are soft. And IMO we got a little hosed from the Refs. Oh and KO is the man.
And as for the game, sorry to break this to all of you who already have your hearts set on Taylor Hall, but the goaltending currently on this team is going to keep them in every single game. What would have likely been two losses last year are now two points. Health permitting - obviously a big if with this team - should only improve as the season goes on.
Knee-jerk reaction to day 1 of Schremp’s “audition”: See you again soon, Tamby.
CB… can you do the post game Pluses, and Minuses? I missed the game last night, but want to know your opinions. I guess the obvious one is OK, still “WOW”.
two games into the season fellas. JT was taking faceoffs in the offensive zone, maybe because hes the center, its 2 games into the season, hes a rookie, and this team is young and developing. thats how it happens. crunch time, tight game, go do it rook!
i wish we had a few more top shelf players, but it takes time to size up your talent, and getting guys burn aka playing time is how its done. esp when your franchise is losing $20 million a season, and your not certain of your home arena, and theres a plan that requires a 2 or 3 year build out.
i wish we were tougher, i don’t want our young guys getting killed. neither does management. but management has played professional hockey before, and we(the posters) haven’t. everytime we BOO the GM, we more often then not get egg on our face. faith boys. we tied the champs. got the short end last nite in a road game that was a home opener and still nailed down a point. solid results for 2 games. is KO the real deal or what! i like it when our guys make espn doing the abusing, and not being abused.
the leafs/boston thing. i’d expect to see a lot more that problem this off season. if we add a top 5 pick, and can poach a guy in similiar fashion( the 2001 nhl draft is supposed to be weak, but tis a yera away), then we can make a big strides.
oops. 2011 nhl draft is supposed to weak and but its a year away.
The Isles are gonna lead the league in moral victories.
A loss is a loss is a loss, every time.
i cant help but think that a legit FA pickup would have helped us win both of these games. Just thinkin out loud here.
KO is the best player we got at this point. Striet it #2 but where is Bailey?
i thought we looked good last night. Both OTT goals during the game were total fluke lucky plays.
Biron did let in softy in overtime.
Tavares missed a few chance, but its amazing how often he gets chances.
If Sim, Streit or Comeau could hit the Net last night we would have won game easily.
So what we got a point. thats 2 out of 4 points so far We take every game to OT during season and thats 82 pts.
Its great we came back down 2-0 to tie in first place. That is major improvement on the 5-0 blowouts or the blown leads of last year. Last year we were the worst 3rd period team in NHL. oh wait. we were the worst team in NHL period.
This team is in dire need of a stay at home defenseman. Love what I have been reading about in regards to Travis Hamonic, but if I continue to watch Brendan Witt and Andy Sutton getting beat time and time again, I’m going to hurl. Thank G-d Sutton and Meyer’s contracts is up at year’s end, and Witt only has 1 year left at 3 mill. Dehaan, Hamonic, Fowler, Barker and Volchenkov are names that would truly help their D down the road
2,094 readers. Impressive! That’s almost equal to the number of fans who would show up at the Coliseum for an Islanders-Ottawa game on a weeknight in October. Loved reading the reaction to Kyle’s move last night. Hope you do it again.
Bailey will go down as a huge bust. I saw nothing in his play last year and I think he’s been even MORE timid (if that’s possible) this year. What an awful decision to bypass Filatov. Islanders really over-thought that draft and it is biting us in the ARS.
Okposo and Tavares, on the other hand — fantastic.
you guys kill me! it’s game two and all the negativity. We got two points in two games and the boys showed some heart coming from behind last night. KO is ridiculous, Tavares needs some time , but last night Baily, Sim and Bergy needed more ice. Bergy had several takeaways and needs more ice time to show his stuff. And Sim, love him or hate him, was all over the ice last night and one of the few guys mxing it up. Now if he could just hit the net we’d all be singing a different tune. Keep the heads up boys!!
I think Bailey’s got a place, just more in the future. I watched him thread that pass to Hunter first game like he was spoon feeding a baby. Right thru a couple of players too. Beauty. He’ll be fine, we can’t forget he was brought up WAY too soon. It all needs to catch up (IMO).
Okposo - WOW, glad he’s on OUR team!
CB - did you even really get to watch the game last night? You must be exhausted.
I’ve enjoyed the first 2 games and am looking forward to the next 80.
Oh yeah, hitting the net! Hopefully that’ll come. Is there a stat listing for team net missing?
I don’t get the Bailey bashing two games into a new season.
agreed leave bailey and let him develop into the 2nd line center he will be….he should not have been here last year…
CB, another great job and much thanks for the platform. Not to continue to harp on the benefits for off-of-LI Isles fans, but this site provides a community feel for those that cannot watch the game on TV nor with any other Isles fans. It’s hard for me to be more grateful to you and IPB.
But since IPB has so many regular viewers, how come you only have those few (two?) ads on the site? I know you’re being sponsored, but it seems that many other LI or hockey businesses should jump on this.
.CB did a great job with the chat - fun stuff and cant wai for the next 1
For the 1000th TIME, hockey is a TEAM sport with a TEAM of all types doing there roles, that means the skill players doing there thing and the not as skilled players doing there thing — Lunchpail players bring there effort, energy and physicality - they help set a tone for a game. A good forechecker, a big hit, a occasional scrap, ALL HELP SET THE TONE FOR THE TEAM! U cant have 4 lines of ice capades it wont help make a team!!!
** I was having trouble locating the game in Westchester (Cablevision) i only found the Rags + devs games — can anyone tell me what channel number the game was on? Ch 71 had rags, ch 72 had the devils, where was the isles? helpppp!!!
#19 not sure if you have ever played Ice Hockey. TRUST ME it is allot harder to hit that net than it looks. You have a moment to pick ya spot and shoot… I missed a easy shot in my playoff game Wed night. Good thing we where up 9-3 with 2 min left in game. I didn’t miss cause I suck. I missed cause hockey is a hard game to play and I had minor mental lapse and loss of concentration for a split second.
Another moral victory. Coming back from 2-0 and Sens home opener.
I was on HockeyFights.com this morning most of the fights that took place last night were all retaliation from a dirty or hard hit. Last night I seen our “future stars or “franchise players” get plastered. As usual no retribution. Even last year when Franz Nielson was injuried by Mike Mottu of the Devils. How manny times whould Billy Jaffe mention it during a telecast. This will be a continuing theme all year. Garth is putting his young skilled players in jeopardy. Picking up Shrimp (Shremp)will be a waste of time. He’s an under sized foward, which we already have a surplus of.
People said last night the Isles were playing a boring game, but really, boring is usually better for the visitors. You could have heard a pin drop in the place for long stretches of the game, and it was their home opener. I’d put that in the plus column for the Isles.
yeah… thanks for the insight Jake.
Re: “A loss is a loss is a loss”… Well, not in the NHL. Here it can sometimes get you a point, and it’s a hell of a lot better than getting nothing.
Seriously, folks: SO loss to the champs and OT road loss (thanks partially to not one of FOUR officials being able to see the net over the glass move) in a place this team never wins ain’t all that bad.
There were not injuries? Not one injury to report? What is happening to the Isles?
My earlier post about needing an enforcer was sarcastic. We don’t need goons… Wouldn’t have helped in these games and won’t help the kids. Thinking otherwise is just, uh… Wrong. As someone said, patience and skill. And despite the man-crush some have on Burke, let’s see if his spend on FA methods work for Toronto. It would make NO sense to sign mid level free agents now. Let’s see what we have and what we need as the rebuild unfolds. So far, while it’s clear we’re not where we want to be, we’re moving in the right direction. Btw, where are all the Isles fans that were certain we should have taken Mueller instead of KO…????
I thought it was a good game and if someone had told me the Isles after 2 games wouldnt have a regulation loss Id certainly take it. The way they came back showed me something and I was impressed with how they played. Its a road game and road games are supposed to be boring and more played ‘not to lose’
I looked at the playing times and as expected the top line forwards got the most ice, but after that all the forwards besides Jackman had equal ice time. So those saying this guy needed more ice time, its not going to happen.
And did anyone else notice that once Jackman ‘left’ the game Park and Comeau all of the sudden started buzzing around with the puck. It was like the first half of the game they were taking their ‘checking’ line status a little too much to heart.
All in all loved the effort and cant wait for Saturday
Re: missing the net, I think people need to consider that at the NHL level, if players have time to set up a shot (as opposed to just dumping a shot on net to take advantage of a screen or potential rebound), they’re usually looking to pick a very specific spot intended to beat the goaltender. Since the goaltenders are also NHL calibre, those spots are usually pretty narrow, and near the posts. Missing the net by an inch to the outside may very well mean they were much closer to their objective than if the put the puck six inches inside the post (and squarely into the goaltender’s pad). Just sayin’…
clearly understand west coast fan. But also being a pro is having the ability to thread the needle and pick the corners. that is what makes the pros.
Its understood that shots miss from time to time but i counted at least 7-10 good shots.
How does the saying go. If its not on Net, its definately not going to go in.
#42 - a real hockey fan: the game was on 414. If its MSG+ its 72 and if its MSG+2 it will be on 414. Tomorrow night’s game should be on 72.
^ Thanks Willis #52 ^
Are those channels the HD channels? Or are they regular channels? (I dont have HD lol) Do u know the alternative channels? i thought it was vh 55 or ch 10?
Sorry if im derailing, im just trying to find out, thanks guys
Bailey and to a lesser extent Bergie need to step it up regardless if it’s only two games (but they aren’t the only ones). I don’t care if you don’t score but at least be visible out there. Okposo, Moulson, Tavares, and Sim are working there tails off, I’m waiting for the rest of the forwards to follow suit.
And our D is getting beat too easily. This team is WAY too thin on the blueline. I love Streit though, he is Mr. Everything.
And just so they don’t feel left out, our goaltenders have been solid.
I don’t have HD either (1 of 325 non HD people left in the WORLD, I’m sure!!) so your guess is as good as mine. All I know is thats where the game is and it comes in fine. lol
REAL - You don’t need an HD TV to get those channels. call the cable company if you don’t get the 3 digit channels.
All in all I like our two results. Would have been nice to hold the lead against the Pens but we still got a point. The comeback against Ottawa was impressive.
There are still going to be growing pains this season, but we are better than last year already, you can see it in our forwards
Okposo is closer and closer to becoming one heck of a player (he is like this teams Bryan Trottier, great leader, does everything well). Tavares is like our Mike Bossy (Sniper at the highest level). Streit and possibly De Haan when he gets up here are like our Denis Potvin (leadership at the blue line, one of the best and most underrated dmen in the league.) We also have a great goalie tandem this season and some really good role players that are working their tales off. Say what you want, but there are 29 other teams out there that would love to have both Hunter and Park. Bergenheim made great strides last season and once he is 100% I expect him to become a secondary scoring threat. Moulson has impressed me as well.
The pieces are there everyone. This is only season 2 of the rebuild and you can see the impovement already.
Our two biggest issues now is our overall defense core (De Haan will help with that when he comes up and I think that will be addressed later on) and that we dont have a Clark Gilles though and that could be an issue
Again overall I like the progress the Isles are making, Rome wasn’t built it a day, just remember that.
I’m in Ottawa as we speak with my wife to visit her family! Everybody up here is saying the same thing! We are getting there and we will be a force in another 2 years!
You get paid good money to play in the NHL, you should hit the net. We’re missing by more than inches, just sayin.
