  1. avatar James says:

Great effort and Great win for the Isles, keep it up guys

  2. avatar michele says:

tavaras was awesome again…okposo is amazing.

  3. avatar Alan says:

Great effort. I see parts that could fill in the 2nd and 3rd lines. Hopefully, we can blend them together. Loved Nielsen’s efforts tonight. Disappointed that Bailey seems to get pushed around. All in all, inspiring win.

  4. avatar eric says:

keep it up guys. nice to see. thanks again chris .

  5. avatar Matt says:

good win. bring it tomorrow night against Buffalo who is another very tough team or tonight meant nothing.

  6. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Looking at the replay of the GWG … Ovie was the goat … he’s the one that left Streit alone … he peeled off towards the boards in the opposite direction of Tavares anticipating a steal and pass up the boards to him … basically “hsnging”

  7. avatar Steven says:

The Isles still have a ways to go but this is why you do not panic early. The Isles have been in most games this year and should only get better. You see the Isles have some very good pieces to build around.

  8. avatar Jay says:

I have to say I am very happy with Tavares’ offensive output so far. HOWEVER, he does not move his feet at all when he does not have the puck and is very slow at backchecking, if at all. If he can get stronger in the offseason and keep his legs moving all the time and build explosive speed, he will be a force to be reckoned with for a very long time.

  9. avatar Willy P says:

Allow me to quote Major leagues II “You guys won today. You guys won yesterday, so that’s two in a row. If you win again tomorrow, that’s called a winning streak. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE.” lol great win by the isles you can see the team is coming together 6 points in the last 4 games

  10. avatar Alan says:

JT and JB need to hit the weight room. But JT has 85-100 point potential year in and year out. Would love to see Bergy-Nielsen-Hunter form a line when Trent gets healthy. They’ll play with grit and drive. Rangers are a subpar team without Gaborik, another loss LOL

  11. avatar Anthony says:

Jay, we have a guy who’s putting points on the board – important late ones, in every game. Even in Montreal, he didn’t get an assist, but he rode the defender off the puck and gave Moulson the chance to feed Tambelini to tie the game; late! Pardon the cliche; the “puck finds him”, he makes things happen, and if you noticed he moved his feet pretty darn well behind the net to kick the puck to his stick to set up the game winner!

Sorry, but backchecking isn’t why he was drafted! The kids doing just fine…

  12. avatar John from Merrick says:

Great game boys. No Ranger Hangover this time. Let’s go for 3 tomorrow.

  13. avatar The New Isles GM says:

As much as I love all the personalities on the team, I don’t think this is going to be our set 20 man roster for time to come. I think some guys need to go so we can fill the secondary scoring with some natural scoring ability. That will help seperate our wins from not going into overtime handing points out every game. Which should be a main concern since the point system is so crucial today.

  14. avatar Alan says:

Anthony: You couldn’t be more right. JT finds the puck and if we had more finishers, he’d have 14 or 15 points by now

  15. avatar Justin says:

Love to see the Islanders fans getting excited about a win. I hope this means (even if they struggle) no more talk of “we want to finish last to get another high pick.” I just hate that. We got our top pick, lets just improve and add a free agent or two in the offseason or make a shrewd trade.

  16. avatar Alan says:

The guy who has really showed me much over the past week and could stick as a #5 or #6 defender is Jack Hillen. He makes me forget about once a month Campoli. Our D next season could be drastically different, with both Dehaan and Hamonic as regulars

  17. avatar Kevin says:

There was an earlier message from an
Isles fan on another topic, and I thought
    it was a good point/post.

Prior to tonight, they played elite/good
teams and played them well, getting points
    against teams including PIT,WAS,BOS,NYR ect…

This fan thought that teams would think
the Isles would be a pushover and would
take the night off. This would be the
reason why so many OT/Close games.

Tonight they played the Caps for the 2nd time and they won.
I feel the Isles will playing meaningful games through the winter.

    The playoffs are a reach.

This Isles team will be a thorn in the side for many teams this year.
I can only see them getting better.

    Very exciting!

Would be stoked if the LH deal was completed!

    Goaltending was great tonight.

Gordo has them playing real hard.

    Love this

  18. avatar Bjo says:

Sutton has been very good lately. Just saying

  19. wow, nice job by rolie, but even better effort from the skaters.

  20. avatar hextall72 says:

What a atmosphere in washington.. Islanders truly need the lighthouse, queens or brooklyn to come through. Great game boy’s..

Kudo’s to my fellow isles fans in washington tonight..

  21. avatar very happy isles fan says:

if the isles keep playing the way they are they may make the playoffs!! maybe get some respect back in the nhl

  22. avatar Blizzard says:

Truly an impressive win by the Islanders. Just an all around great effort. Rolo played great. The fourth line has made a big difference. They are not a liability and the way they rolled 4 lines they where relentless. Neilson, I hope he can stay healthy.

I keep hearing knocks on JT about his skating but man does he seem to always be in the right place. I remember reading the scouting report on him before we drafted him. “Thinks the game at a higher level, anticipates where to be ” After watching him play so far I can certainly see that. He made some real good passes tonight.

    GO ISLANDERS!!!!

  23. avatar brian from bay shore says:

Okposo! kid has the puck all the time, it is great. Listen to the announcers tomorrow, he is the the name you hear the most. Next captain of this team if you ask me.

  24. avatar Dan says:

Plus: John Tavares as a goalscorer AND a playmaker. As well as that nice pass, he hit the post and had another great chance in front. He is something special.

  25. avatar Oren says:

I’m not used to winning in OT! Great game to watch, one of the most satisfying wins in years. See a lot of promise in many areas. One minus is Sutton giving away the puck in the final minutes, almost resulting in a goal, he does that a lot.

  26. avatar steve says:

another guy who takes a pounding on this site is sim. he forechecks hard, he is aggressive. he never passes up a hit, he always bangs, hes annoying, and has grit, or sand, or whatever you want to call a pest. he doesnt put the team man down.
its been a fun two games, but we are still only 12 games into the season. at worst, the islanders are a fun team to watch. they make mistakes, but they skate hard, play aggressive and are entertaining. aside from the first habs and that buff game, we have been in every contest. when your speaking of a team that was last in the league, thats a sharp improvement. So Far, So Go.

  27. avatar max says:

john tavares + kyle okposo= unbelievable future for the next ten years will be oned of the better tandems wen all is set and done

  28. avatar steve says:

keep score of how many times JB gets knocked off the puck, and how many times JT gets the same. its not being a critic, its the difference a professional off season makes to a players performance.
    i like winning hockey games.

  29. avatar Merrick says:

Plus: Winning two in a row after so much complaining for the first 10 games.

Plus: Hockey that’s fun and exciting to watch.

Minus: Okposo thinking Thomas Jefferson was our 16th President on the Witter-Okposo pre-game quiz challenge. Egads!

  30. avatar AZS says:

Does this mean Snow and Gordon can keep their jobs now fellas?

  31. avatar Steven says:

I think some Isles fans can start coming in from the ledge 30.

  32. avatar bloodyskull says:

looking for an answer on Schremp. Is he never going to suit up? No disrespect to Sim but I would rather see a dumb hockey player that skates into corners play on the 4th line than Jon Sim.

  33. avatar Eastonhockey says:

Nice job. Neilson is what we could only pray baily is in 3 years… A legitimate NHL 2nd liner

  34. avatar isles3113 says:

honestly, this team can make the playoffs the way they have been playing… if they dont, they will just miss it bc i dont see us in last place taking taylor hall… also when people talk about the defense in years to come, they forget to mention aaron ness… is it because they forgot about him or is he not living up to his potential which if i recall is pretty good

  35. avatar jim says:

regardless of what some people think of Gordon as a coach, with the players healthy right now, the lines are set up just about perfectly. JT line is obvious. the 4th line has been great since they were put together. Neilson line is a great shutdown type line. when Hunter comes back i guess he takes Sim’s spot and Sim can kinda fill in here and there for players who aren’t on form. and the JB line is set up alright. perhaps him and Weight together isnt perfect since they both prefer to pass, but it gives Tambellini the perfect linemates to show if he has what it takes to score consistantly. i just want to find a place for Blake C though. he was struggling and got scratched rightfully. but now he needs to get back out there as he does have something to offer (kinda like how Meyer should be getting some games instead of Witt or Martinek with their crappy play, but that’s another subject).

  36. avatar Chris A says:

    Plus- Roloson making big saves

Even- the defense put Rolo in a tough spot but also made some good plays (Bruno on that 2 on 1 in the second I think)

Minus- the refs early double minor on KO and some late 3rd period calls which were questionable almost led to a loss

  37. avatar doc says:

PLUS: the EFFORT by the entire team!!!

    DOC

  38. avatar jonsson3 says:

If not for Roloson this game, this blog would be complaining again. Danni or MacDonald would = loss.

Team worked hard but Defense needs to be alot better. where’s Meyer? Play him tomorrow and give Witt a rest.

Sim is playing hard but why is he on the PP??

    giggety giggety Go Isles! 1940!!

  39. avatar jonsson3 says:

    And who has more losses?

    Isles or Rags?

    Rags 5 Isles 4

    Yea Baby!!

  40. avatar Adam says:

jonsson3, i agree, rollie made some great saves, but don’t forget, the first two goals were his fault and his fault alone.

  41. avatar JJT9090 says:

alright so we need to get out to the home games and support this team guys. throw more wood into the fire !!

  42. avatar teddyfusi says:

does anyone agree roloson was crazy good tonight..absurd at some points

  43. avatar will c. says:

amazing what 2 wins does to this board. we are talking playoffs now…..yikes. Lets not get ahead. But feel free to enjoy toronto sucking.

  44. avatar isles14 says:

2 in a row .break up the islanders!!!!!!!!!!

  45. avatar Islebethere4u says:

Nice pass in OT by JT.

  46. avatar Islebethere4u says:

Roloson just about stole the game from the Caps.

  47. avatar joe fred says:

Great win tonite, still believe Streit needs to stay out of the penalty box but he made up for it. What the isles did to Bailey is simiiliar to what they did when they had Tim Connelly, they moved him up to the big team too early and it impacted his development. Bailey needs to go to the net and win more battles along the boards. Way to go JT!!

  48. avatar beatlebailey says:

2 wins and now we are stanley cup contenders!?..lol….settle down fellas…i am just going to enjoy each win…who knows we could crap out and lose the next 5….snow is still a monkey

  49. avatar Tom says:

Great win, all around effort, bergy was all over the ice….btw im a displaced isles fan living in the DC area, the caps tv group is HORRIBLE! they are such hommers its out of control….said every goal was “lucky” or “caps failed too” never gave the isles any credit….also kinda funny in OT, they said JT was denied of the puck on the boards behind the net…and we all know how that ended, great game boys!

  50. avatar toorude says:

everyone backs on the LHP, things settle back down – focus is on hockey and we start winning. The whole LHP could have been more of a distraction than I thought on the plasyers on the ice. Frans and Weight sure help too!

  51. avatar Tony says:

To #18–Sutton’s standing around on the PP led to the Caps goal. He just stood there like an 8ft. pylon. Notice which d-man did nothing about the Caps player who got behind him in the crease and scored the goal? Uni #25.

  52. avatar Brian in VA says:

That was sweet last night! The beer was a great celebration at the Greene Turtle after the game! Let’s Go Islanders! Little Iginla was a beast! Frans played well too!

  53. avatar Brian in VA says:

Easy with the playoff talk! Not going to happen!

  54. avatar battfist says:

2-0-2 in the last four games against quality teams. We have a reason to be excited!

For those questioning Tavares abilities…give it up. The kid has step in and played excellent hockey so far.

Bailey-I believe he has a bright future with the Isles but I am seeing what others are seeing. He needs confidence. (He’s becoming a liability on the ice.)

This team is also makinng a believer out of me. Gordon nice job with this team. Lets hope they stay healthy…why not the playoffs?

  55. avatar stephen says:

A good effort, no doubt. But, let’s not get carried away. Yes, this is the effort I want to see from a rebuilding team. I didn’t care who won or lost, but watching the 3rd period and not seing the team melt down was key. A bounce either way could have ended the game, but I didn’t see the fatigue. Good job by Gordo rolling 4 lines. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the team is competing and shows some gas left in the tank. I don’t know why it took him 10 games to realize this.

Tavares is going to be a top player in this league when he starts burying all his chances. I’ve never seen a 19 year old in all the right spots at all the right times. His hands are special. Imagine when he gets bigger and stronger. Wow.

Okposo is going to be on that level before JT. He’s close. Real close. But, the best part is the chemistry those two show. Like Turgeon and Thomas…Trottier and Bossy… Ziggy and..wait he had nobody.

These line combos are as good as it gets for us. Substitute Hunter for Sim and thats it folks.

The d has gotten a bit better over the past few. Sutton might be playing his way to a deadline deal. Same with Marty. We need a few upgrades here. I don’t know how I feel about DP rushing back with this d in front of him. Next year i dont want to see Gervais, Meyer, Hillen and Martinek. Keep one of them. They are all undersized and lose battles on the boards and in the crease. We can’t win with all of them. Witt is an ok #6 and on the PK. Streit, De Haan… We need a #2 and #3 more than we need any forwards.

  56. avatar Hock says:

Nice to see Frans Nielson put a few in. We need the secondary scoring. Some concerns, like everyone else, about Bailey, but I’m hoping he will get more comfortable as the season progresses.

A lot of scoring chances for Tavares that did not go in. There was justice in him making that crucial centering pass for the game winner. Seasons have so many ups and downs. Look at us and look at the Rangers now.

By the way, Tavares bears a resemblance to Spock from the new Star Trek movie …although, Spock would probably never wear a hard hat….just a non-hockey observation.

May Tavares live long and prosper.

  57. avatar Ice Girl Dad says:

    Agree with # 26
Sim drew two penalties last night and was a screen in front of the net on Frans’ second goal. Tamby invisible last night only 6 minutes of ice time. Rolo very good
    Team will continue to grow

  58. avatar dmen77 says:

3-4-5 doesn’t seem very good when you figure we have only won 25% of our games
but when you also figure we have points in 75% of our games,
    its honestly not too shabby.

Playoffs are still an imagination, the teams we are tied with have played
less games….but if we keep getting points at this pace, we’ll be sniffing around
    in the end.

  59. avatar pained says:

    Everyone but Baily played well.

  60. avatar Joyce says:

    Tavares is everywhere!

  61. avatar IslesinOside says:

KO is the hardest working player on this team. The kid skates his butt off every shift…loses his stick quite a bit though! The kid will set an example to follow for the rest of the guys and I agree #23 about the “C” gettin sewn on to his Jersey for next captaincy.
It is imperative that Weight stay healthy for this team to keep up their momentum(is it too early to call it that?). The Youngs bucks seem to lose focus when El Capitan isn’t around.
And easy on the playoff talk guys….last week the board was full of posts about how the team has no talent and Wang should just sell the team..now after two wins you would think we all saw the second coming of Jesus Christ!
It is fun to read though and I am glad to some excitement and support for the team. Now buy some tickets to the games and represent our team!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. avatar David says:

Does any one see Bergy’s passion. Dude is an animal every shift. That’s the way hockey should be played.

  63. avatar SeaBass says:

Everyone needs to stop the Bailey hating. the kid is 19!!!! And he is playing alright. He’s improved big time on the dot and that is super underrated, your team needs the puck to score! He also has been pretty good on the boards he is obviously much stronger then he was last year. Another area where I’ve seen improvement is getting the puck in the d zone and getting it out. I’ve also seen him take some pretty wicked wristers. And, we all know about his playmaking potential. All-in-all the kid has improved in every facet so get off his back and let him continue to mature. Yeah, he was brought up too early but that’s not his fault. At this point you need to ask yourself if he is doing all the little things better not if he’s putting up points. And he’s improved everywhere. Soon he’ll start putting it all together and we will have three damn good centers. Also, for all those that say the Isles ruined Tim Connolly I guess you havent watched him play hockey for Buffalo…he turned out pretty damn good.

  64. avatar Brian Riley says:

I can’t wait til Bergenheim just absolutely explodes. Its going to happen soon, there is no doubt about it. The way he plays, goals are sure to follow.

  65. avatar cusi says:

Great game all around. Slow down on the playoff talk after 2 wins and the fire Gordon talk after a blown lead. Let’s take this season one game at a time and enjoy the maturation of our young guys. If they can be competitive each night and play with the effort they have shown the last 3 or 4 games, it will be a fun season to watch.

Why did Tambs get so few minutes and why was he not on the PP? Did not see anything that would have put him in the doghouse….

  66. avatar Mike L says:

Yeah I’m not sure why Gordon would bench Tamby. I guess when your a player with confidence issues, it’s best to bench you when your confidence is high, you have points in 3 straight games, and your looking very good? A nice hit by Tamby on Poti last night. Maybe that confused Gordon and he thought Tamby was our “enforcer” so he gave him enforcer minutes?

  67. avatar therain93 -- terriers fan says:

Wow, 2 wins and suddenly it’s a love-fest? Where are all the boo-birds?

They’ll be back soon enough I’m sure but people shouldn’t be surprised that these wins are coming. After all, this is the same team that’s played pretty good hockey for basically 11 of 12 games this season. CB is right, no coach wants or will want to play the Isles. It won’t be a perfect season and as much as I hope for a cup, now we don’t have all the pieces yet. But, this group of posts are the kind of optimism pitts was experiencing between the sid draft and the cup.

    To #30, AZS — you know as well as I do that Snow’s and Gordon’s jobs are safe only until the next loss ( ‘ ;

  68. avatar Bjorn Holland says:

I saw the game on ESPN here in Holland. Great win against a better team. But when you have less talent you better don’t get to many stupid penalties. That’s killing.
One point of criticism: too often on the powerplay the Isles don’t create chances. They should work on that. Good job by Thompson killing penalties.

  69. avatar KO21 says:

Awesome win last night..Witter doesn’t move his feet enough, its hard to watch…Last season he seemed to handle the system by keeping his legs moving and making good decisions…I hope He can get back to that…One thing Witter does bring is a physical presence and he needs to use that allot more to help the team…He needs to block shots and clear the crease by being physical

  70. avatar Gary P says:

They Needed to win against the rangers and last night. Let’s see how they play when they just want to win. The Need to win attitude is the difference maker. The great teams have the attitude of Need because they expect to win each game. Not sure if the Isles are there yet When you need to win you tend to Play To Win rather than playing not to lose.

  71. avatar Bjorn Holland says:

One more thing: what was Park doing in the first minute of the second periode all alone in front of Theodore?? He goes to the backhand while the whole right side of the net was open.

  72. avatar jonsson3 says:

    i agree #71, 100%, he’s usually better than that

  73. avatar Islebethere4u says:

Everybody please keep reminding the Isles to be physical. The first 6 to 8 games they were not at all. The past few games they’ve been physical and the difference has been night and day.
