MURRAY TELLS NEWSDAY SHE CALLED C.B.W.
Guess the Supervisor didn’t get the memo

by admin on October 15th, 2009 at 11:02 pm

This is kinda funny. In an updated story about Charles Wang denying he’s turned out the Lighthouse, Kate Murray tells Newsday that she called Wang and details what she told him. The ToH also reveals details of a letter sent to Wang. Guess the Supervisor has chosen not to respect Wang’s plea – stated at the home opener – to keep their conversations out of the media. Lighthouse comments here.

Guess the Supervisor didn’t get the memo

  1. avatar a REAL hockey fan says:

Aaaannddddd the ROLLERCOASTER JUST CONTINUES on and on!!!!

    OR is it a See-Saw?

Politicians of all types both sides do this nonsense – just check Wash D.C. these days and those knuckleheads

  2. avatar Chris says:

So now Kate Murray wants to talk about scaling it back. Why didn’t she do this years ago when the proposal was submitted. I think this is tilted towards Wang now that Kate called him and said she wants to meet. She knows the pressure is on her to get it done. She will still most likely win, but I don’t think she wants the Isles leaving on her record.

  3. avatar Islesin2010 says:

It doesn’t surprise me that she wants to scale it back. Of course this could have been done years ago and we could be midway through this thing already, but that’s another story. There is no shame in scaling this back to get it finalized. This thing is huge, maybe even too huge. Work something out so both sides are happy, Wang can make his money and TOH can be happy seeing Nassau come back to respectability. I look at this as good news… maybe I shouldn’t but I am.

  4. avatar Jason says:

Kate Murray is the gift that keeps on giving….if you live in Brooklyn, Queens or anywhere else in the country that might want the Islanders.

Seriously. What a friggin’ joke. If it wasn’t for the hundreds of patronage jobs her party has tied up in the town, she’d be out on her fat keister.

  5. avatar Rachel G says:

    Getting close to election day.

  6. avatar StevieL says:

Geez, they can’t even agree on the simple things like keeping details out of the press!!Seriously , is this women even capable of negotiating with Wang?? I feel the real problem here is that the project is just way over their heads!!They don’t even know what they are looking at! Happy that she is still open to discussing it though. Can we just get her some help??

  7. avatar Chris A says:

I find it hard for me to refrain from voicing my true opinion on here due to decency but this is ridiculous

  8. avatar Marc says:

Looks like Wang’s between a rock and a hard place. He’s let the Oct 3 date pass without much word of outside interest. He’s said he needs a “yes or no” answer which was “no” as a result of a lack of a reply which is now a request to scale the project down by Murray. Can he, Suozzi and the voters help get Murray ousted and get the project to move forward?

  9. avatar James says:

After the October 3rd deadline, interests in both Queens and Brooklyn came out publicly and expressed interest in the Isles. So I am not sure where there wasnt word from outside interest.

Again though I read this thread and I see more posturing and balking by Kate Murray and the TOH board. The options are there, I hope it all works out

  10. avatar James says:

oh and to add to my post above; if I am not mistaken CB even has a thread on here from a few days back outlining that Wang’s silence after the October 3rd deadline was very effective and that both Queens and Brooklyn came out and expressed interest in the team.

  11. avatar Anthony L says:

Of course Kate is going public. She’s a politition with an upcoming election… The “scale down” should’ve been discussed a while ago, BUT, if the do submit new plans, it’s natural that they do get priority treament and it does go to the top of the heap when they’re reviewed, SOONER THAN LATER…

Not dead yet… (on life support still haha)

  12. avatar Willis says:

How can she sleep at night. OMG

  13. avatar Will C. says:

Queens here we come! At this rate i’ll take it. still on the Island and no freakin MURRAY.

  14. avatar 2Bit says:

    <>

Would you get rid of those useless fountains Wanger? Let’s get this thing done!

  15. avatar 2Bit says:

“”In a letter sent to Wang Thursday, Murray argued that modifying the project could resolve some of the town’s environmental concerns, “making it possible for the town board to more promptly provide the certainty that you are seeking.”"”

Would you get rid of those useless fountains Wanger? Let’s get this thing done!

  16. avatar Jamerson says:

Kate Murray is the new “Balloon Boy”.

  17. avatar Steven says:

I’m surprised Kate did not wait until the year 2020 to ask for the project to be scaled down. I guess the Town Of Stallers has been pretty busy. How Charles has not given up yet is beyond me.

  18. avatar JJ says:

What I find disgusting is that Murray ignored Wang’s repeated pleas to keep this out of the media.

How do you develop a good negotiating relationship with someone that blatantly ignores a public request?

In any event, I imagine that Wang is waiting out election day before anything of consequence happens. Should McElroy win (by some miracle), then the LHP deal gets done. At the moment, however, there’s no motivation for Wang to negotiate with Murray until he knows he MUST negotiate with Murray.

Should that become reality, I hope Wang does the right thing, and scales down the project. Life is all about compromise.

And besides, does Long Island really need a minor league baseball field?

  19. avatar Dylan says:

Yah, im sure the people that are complaining about the size want Wang to get rid of pools of water with fountains on the ends. That must be whats keeping this from going through.

  20. avatar goislesgo105 says:

#16 is right. Long Island does not need another minor league baseball field. We have enough minor league ball with the Cyclones, the Ducks and the Mets !!

  21. avatar Chris TMC says:

She cant just do what is asked of her? Its what the developers want her to do, its what the other towns on LI want her to do, its what the county govt wants her to do, its what the state govt wants her to do, and its what the PEOPLE want her to do… but there she is, talking to the media instead of finding out the answers to these burning questions she supposedly has. GRRR.

  22. avatar Danielle says:

I wouldn’t even be surprised if the “solid” source for the LI Press was Murray’s office, just so that Kate could come out and say “Hey, I’m willing to meet with you to negotiate the scaling down of the project” and make Wang look like the bad guy.

Their article also said that Suozzi was one of the parties involved in stalling the project. Uh, hello. I wouldn’t believe a word they print regarding this topic. Probably some young dumb kids fresh out of Five Towns’ journalism program on Murray’s payroll.

  23. avatar Metalcoconut says:

On a lighter note, Milbury has stated that the LHP is an embarrassment for Nassau County. When Mike Milbury is calling you out Kate…

  24. avatar The Express says:

Murray is probably under the impression that the LIP article was leaked by Wang, so she went to the press too.

You’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. I’d rather they go through the press than get blindsided in 4 weeks that Wang is pulling out after weeks of silence.

As for reducing the size of the project…I think that it has to be done. It shouldn’t be just a Colesium renovation (as that makes no sense for Wang) but do we really need 40 story buildings in the heart of Long Island?

  25. avatar Jim Clark says:

Murray, Wang and Suazzo make Moe, Larry and Curley look like towering figures of intelligence and reason.

  26. avatar Steve says:

Cherles should just go to Brooklyn or Queens. He is NOT going to get what he wants in Nassau County. Hopefully he is negotiating with either of the two boroughs right now.

  27. avatar Bryan says:

I think if Wang truly cared about keeping the Isles where they belong he would at least consider scaling down a bit. I realize that Murray may be incredibly late with this but if it means losing 200 condo’s and 100 0ffices to keep the Isles where they are I say do it.

  28. avatar Bryan says:

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like the future of the New York Islanders is bleak, if not inconceivable? Wang seems to stubborn to budge and Kate Murray wants nothing to do with this. God hopes they move to Brooklyn or Queens. I live in Suffolk and root for the Dodgers and Packers, but just dont think I can root for another team in a different market.

  29. avatar eric r says:

This may be a little bit crazy but I believe that wang with brooklyn and queens as viable options is in a postion of strength. If he does not get what he wants with the lighthouse project he can not just move the team but maybe and this is pure speculation but sell the team to that new russian owner of the nets.1)He is a billionare so spending a 175 million dollars for the islanders is not out of his range. He bought the nets who have less of a fan base than the islanders and not near the history of the islanders.2)He is a hockey guy.He has done a lot for the khl in russia.3)Brooklyn would have 2 pro teams to help make that state of the art new facility a money maker.4)bettman has stated he does not want the islanders playing in the outdated coliseum but also not move the islanders to another state he prefers to try to keep the team on LI so he would have the best of both worlds a new arena and a new fan base and plenty of media attention that would come out of this for the nhl. Again this is pure speculation but what a story this would be if he does buy the islanders but I also do not know if you are allowed to own an nba and nhl team at the same time?

  30. avatar NickyL says:

I’m still holding out hope that this gets done at the 11th hour type of way, like the Penguins situation did. Im on two sides here. One one hand, Wang maybe should scale it back if means a YES. But on the other hand, ToH had so much time to do this. Hmmm.

  31. avatar Isles6 says:

I want the team to stay where it is, but I won’t lie, Queens to me is just as good, Brooklyn is okay, but I grew up in Queens, and would work ten minutes from the arena in Flushing, so…

As for Ms. Murray, short of Mr. Wang just building a new arena, ENOUGH…just come out an say what your “idea” of a scaled back project would be. Add something productive to the discussion, outside of I am too busy kissing the rear end of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce.

  32. avatar art says:

The deal will get done! Its math, Wang needs certain items to make his bottom line work and KM needs to look “resposible” Thats how Washington works and thats how the TOH works.

  33. avatar gary says:

She want to “scale the project back”—Does this really mean, “I want you to scale back the project to just rebuilding the arena at your expense and put a park in”

  34. avatar beatlebailey says:

i think something gets done with LHP…she is a politician..the press is like a drug addiction to politicans…let it play out… i am done whining about this…gonna focus on all that islander talent on the ice…..oh wait a minute

  35. avatar BD Hendo says:

CW claims that he does not want to negotiate thru the press, so a story is leaked to the LIPress, silence by the LDC, it is all a publicity stunt by King Charles, the rich, Ceasar wanna-be who wants it HIS way. This man is using the Isles & their great fans to manipulate the TOH from looking out for the majority of TOH residents that, unlike the 20 thousand or so TOH Islander fans, do not want their town turned into a Manhattan without transportation. How can any Gov’t offical OK a project this big in an area that is already bursting from the seams in congestion? Souszi & Wang live elsewhere, K.Murray & TOH people actually live in the area; is it possible that KM’s offer to scale it down a bit the right idea? Or will CW’s ego be that big that he pick up his toys again & leave. (Plainview) He just wants it his way & using fans’ as pawns is a disgrace! The soap opera continues!

  36. avatar thepolishprince says:

Bryan @ 28 – No it’s not just you. I’m pretty pessimistic about this team being here in a few years time.

  37. avatar Matt says:

Frankly both sides are posturing and it’s boring. The way the team is being run, the mismanagement, bad drafting, years of failure – will it really matter if they leave? Who’s going to notice except a 4,000 die hards? Taxes, schmaxes, this whole ordeal is a farce – wake me up when it’s over.

  38. avatar rochfire says:

I agree, this political crap is frustrating but I truly believe we are getting closer to a resolution. Wang is no idiot when it comes to this. He wants his original plan but has always realized that he may have to scale back certain areas. What part of this is untouchable is going to be the question. Projects all over the country are getting done but on a smaller scale. This is LI and NYS though. The most frustrating part is that the team is suffering. I am sure Garth has a team specific cap he can’t go over until this LHP is resolved. Until then it’s status quo.

  39. avatar MikeD says:

I have no problem with Murray sharing that letter with the media. Wang has used various sources to keep his side in the media but he doesn’t want what I see as a positive letter from Murray getting out. That’s crap. Yes we all know that she and TOH have dragged their feet but at the same time it is a major project. Yes they should have been past this point long ago but Wang still needs to have some flexibility. That said I hope the Isles end up in Queens and Mets and Isles fans unite.

  40. avatar ny711ot says:

Look if kate murray was being genuine the council would document their revisions and if she really wanted to, leak those requests to the press. If it was as simple as reducing the number of condos I think this would be a done deal. An earlier poster nailed it…her revisions are actually what she’s always wanted….which is a redone coliseum period….

  41. avatar hyedray says:

I think part of Wang’s urgency with this is to get it done before election day because if Murray is re-elected, she will drag it out another 2 years—the standard protocol for the do nothing party of “NO” of Hempstead.

  42. avatar Staten Islander says:

Another reason why I’m on blood pressure meds and a baby aspirin everyday

  43. avatar derek says:

As all of you, I hate the political garbage that’s going on and will be voting for McElroy in November, but if I’m Kate Murray, and I hate myself for saying this, I’m doing the EXACT same thing. I’m looking for every way to make myself look better for the election. Just because Wang asked her to keep things out of the media doesn’t mean she has to. Wang’s asking for the Project, not Murray. He can ask to keep it out of the media but it’s up to Murray to take a calculated risk and see what Wang will do if she talks. I honestly think, for her, it’s the best thing she can do. While Wang decides to keep everyone in the dark, Murray decides that she’s going to be an open book. Who looks better in this instance? Well played evil one, well played.

  44. avatar tom says:

at least in willets point we will have a brand new arena, and not some kind of bath fitter renovation like was planned on this dump. let them enjoy the homeless people living in the parking lot at their cement paradise

  45. avatar j says:

of course she’s keeping it public. its the only way she can paint him as the bad guy when all of this unravels.

  46. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

im tired of this Kate Murray talk, I totally feel for Wang’s Frustration.

Only chance we have is Murray loses election. Not sure if we have enough support for it or strong enough opponent to face he.

Path of least resistance is the TOH motta. Get paid and do as little as possible.

  47. avatar Original Rob says:

    eeennnoouuuggghhh aaallrrreeeaadddyyy

Kate Murray stinks. Charles Wang stinks. They all stink. Let’s get new government leadership, a new Isles owner, and a new coliseum. I’m sick of the future of my team being directly tied to a mega $3 billion project that has nothing to do with hockey. I’m sick of this political he said/she said. I’m sick of these arbitrary rules and deadlines that “CBW” pulls out of nowhere.

    Let’s play hockey!

  48. avatar Scott W says:

I have no issue with scaling it down if it is for tne right reasons. The lighthouse is a business model that relys on many pieces to this puzzle. If you remove the office buildings, then you are essentially saying we do not need new office space on the island. If you scale down the housing, you are defeating some of the purpose here in creating new places for people to live. Which is very important also. So, I caution us on what can be scaled down within this business model.

However, the retail, baseball stadium, etc could easily be removed/adjusted.

  49. avatar Merrick says:

I join those who are fed up with all the players in this fiasco. And without disparaging those who have worked hard for the Islanders over the years, I can’t help but believe that the Islander/Wang position would be so much stronger if the team had been run competently for these past 10 years.

  50. avatar Isleman81 says:

Not sure why my last comment was deleted about this, but anyway…we need to “attempt” to give some support here to Kate Murray’s opponent in the upcoming election, Kristen McElroy. Botta says it is impossible at this point for Kristen McElroy to get enough votes. I called up the town of Hempstead the other day. They indicated that anybody in the county of Nassau can vote in the upcoming election on Nov 3rd (not just residents of Hempstead). Chris, why can’t we get this message out to all Islander fans to go out and vote?

  51. avatar Eye on the island says:

Kate Murray is not to be trusted under any circumstance. Her political allegiances are more important to her then the fate of long island and the islanders.

  52. avatar jason says:

I hope voters realize the games she is playing. I am hoping for a miracle and she is not re-elected

  53. avatar Stevie10703 says:

#43, I couldn’t agree with you more. While I’m in favor of the Project, why not scale it down just a bit to see if Murray is telling the truth? She’s saying that if its scaled down it will get approved, so, instead of 40 buildings why not try 25-30 buildings instead? Then if suddenly the TOH finds another excuse, we will all know that Murray and Co. are full of it. But, if the project is approved, then its great for everyone and don’t tell me that Wang won’t make money even with a scaled down version of the project because he will regardless.

  54. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

This project is not going to “save” Long Island. But it will certainly save the Islanders from leaving Long Island. That is the only reason I support this project.

Scale it down. Get it done.

  55. avatar bcarey says:

It’s easy to jump on Murray, but Wang is playing the game too. His pleas to keep negotiations out of the press ring pretty hollow when he orchestrates a charade like the LI Press fallout. Whether he planted the story or not, that’s irrelevant and it’s not what I mean. The fact remains that we all sat around on Wednesday night looking for answers and got nothing, once again proving that we — the fans, the taxpayers, the laity — are all pawns in this massive land deal. Like anything else, it’s the elite playing on the emotions of the middle class. I have a really bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing and frankly, don’t really give a crap anymore. Just announce when it’s done, whatever done may mean.

  56. avatar Blizzard says:

…Wang has stated the time to ammend the project is over. Also that he doesnt want to negotiate in the press. So what does she do? States in the press that she wants it scaled down to address some environmental concerns…..what a total …..ummm cant type it here.

It is clear that the only reason she made a statement to Newsday is because an election is coming up. “Environmental concerns” what a crock. After reading the Poll in Newsday stating a majority of Long Island residents are in favor she is trying to save face.

Wang should bury her right now as the sole reason this isnt getting done. IF YOU LIVE IN THE TOH AND ARE IN FAVOR OF THE LHP GET DOWN TO THE POLLS AND VOTE THIS POLITICAL HACK OUT!!!!!!!!

  57. avatar stevedepot says:

CB, with all due respect, isn’t this the exact opposite now? For a time, all Wang did was berate the TOH and Kate Murray via the media but now he wants it private?
Could it be because some fans are waking up and realizing that he is just as much to blame for the situation he’s in? I think they’ll scale it down but I’m sure there has to be a mutual agreement where both sides save face after all that’s transpired. Anyway, would have been nice if this was all private all along so we could have enjoyed the time leading up to Tavares’ debut vs the Pens without the self imposed dark cloud Wang cast over that date.

  58. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

    It never ends…

  59. avatar fauxrumors says:

    1) Just curious what the “deadline’ on October 3rd really meant? If Wang is stil waiting on TOH AND are under a lease for another 5 years, how did that date mean anything?
    2) Wang is making a mistake in our opinion by keeping this out of the papers. He needs to take some very public trips to KC/Queens/Kings/ or even Quebec City, etc. to illustarte that his deadline wasn’t just a meaningless line in the sand!

  60. avatar If you want to help elect McElroy says:

Looks like you can volunteer to do a calling campaign on behalf of McElroy. Saw it on her Facebook page. Let’s get out there and support McElroy!

  61. The worst part is that this game won’t stop. Murray doesn’t want to get blind-sided, so she leaks communications to the media. Wang doesn’t want to give in to Murray, so to keep his position strong he stands firm. I think Wang can afford to wait until election day. If Murray loses more support over the project, she may not be able to wait. I’m sure once preliminary poll numbers start to get tossed about, we see some action.

  62. avatar Tom says:

#59 Very true. It seems the October 3rd deadline was meaningless. What happened on Oct. 3rd? Like you said he’s not going anywhere for another 5 years, so the deadline means what? Your gonna ‘talk to people’. Good, go ahead, knock yourself out. Islanders fans don’t care, either does Kate Murray, you ain’t going anywhere for another 5 years, talk to whomever you want for as long as want–or don’t talk at all, do whatever you want.

  63. avatar nickisles from Brooklyn says:

if Wang really wants an answer – he has to get a tentative agreement in place with KC or something – come back to hte island and say – LAST CHANCE- YAY OR NAY – then he will get his answer – and he can then say – i gave them the last chance! Really – without something as Dire as that – its gunna be a game of chicken all year!

  64. avatar Leviticus says:

We all just have to realize that not a single one of us truly knows how much thus can be scaled down to make $$ going forward and recoup some past losses. Easy for us to say scale it back…our only interest is the Isles, but other factors exist here. We just have to realize that successful people don’t get there by throwing away $$. Only Wang and probably Rechler know the actual compromise point, if any. And since as best we can tell Murray has not set forth HER ideas about compromise, CW is still being asked to negotiate against himself. So, her public please for compromise is just more of the same crap for pre-election public consumption.

  65. avatar Bobnystrom711OT says:

CB, you start out THIS blob by stating this is funny??!! I fail to see the humor in any phase of what’s going on! Maybe you can shed some light on this, or are you throwing gas on the already out of control fire?? Seems like that has been your approach lately..

  66. avatar eric says:

it’s just sad that people would use a hockey team and there fans
to get there way and political points across. the hole thing just makes me sick.

  67. avatar Isleman81 says:

#56: Voting is open to all Nassau County residents, not just residents of the Town of Hempstead.

  68. avatar islestherapy says:

#65 … you can only vote for Town of Hempstead Supervisor if you live in the Town of Hempstead.

  69. avatar Eric says:

I for one am tired of the queens/brooklyn talk. There has been no offer made that we know about. Its purely speculation. Yes, if the LHP does fall throuhg in Nassau I do expect queens and/or brookln to make an offer. Also the Islanders would not be playing in queens for oh another 4-6 years and probably another 3-4 in Brooklyn. Honestly besides the fact that most islanders fans live on Long Island, Nassau county is the best option for the team. I for one like driving 10 minutes to go to a hockey game. I am not ganna roll over so easily for nassau/queens. I think this thing gets done somehow in nassau but not before more Islanders fans get upset with Political nonsense by Kate Murray along the way and lose more sleep over possibility of losing a once proud franchise.

  70. avatar west coast isles fan says:

Looks like quebec is going to get governmental financing for an arena

    And the fans love it

Try that on long island and see how far you get

But apparently..it was good enough for the same *fans* to get their baseball stadiums.. and football stadium

If i am wang..i am talking to the quebec guys pronto.

  71. avatar KO21 says:

35 Bdhedo, you obviously don’t realize Rexler has plenty of propperty and real estate in that area so they don’t want to impose on the area like to say because Wang doesn’t live there. They have just as much to lose

  72. avatar isles316 says:

now wang and rechler have to go and spend more money on zoning and enviornment on a different model of the project when this could have been discussed years ago. how is that fair?

  73. avatar Harold C says:

BOTH sides are playing games, totally agree. The simple solution is scale it down. Wang can always add to it later, right? Back it off a bit – and BELIEVE me, he’s got a smaller scale plan already done just to make sure he’s covered – and it will get done. Kate Murray is getting re-elected, so that won’t change. When negotiating, there are ALWAYS concessions to be made, and Murray/TOH are not going to simply acquiesce to Wang and his threats. They will find middle ground and get it done, that I am sure of.

  74. avatar MikeD says:

If Wang wants to sell any chance Fred Wilpon puts together a buying group? I know he isn’t the best owner but at least he spends money on payroll.

  75. avatar Harold C says:

I think Wilpon’s extra scratch fell by the wayside thanks to Bernie Madoff…I could be wrong, but I don’t think that’s an option.

  76. avatar Eye on the island says:

This is fact-Scaling it down-especially at this hour is out of the question-

it’s the lighthouse as currently propsed or bust

so it now becomes a question of will this town govenment blow the best opportunity to ever come it’s way

    they must be held accountable

  77. avatar Bri on LI says:

You have to think Charles Wang is just shaking his head, laughing to himself as he opens a bottle of scotch.

I am not a huge consumer, but I found myself in the Tanger Outlet at the Arches in Deer Park. If Mr. Wang’s idea is similar in layout and style, I have to say it would be a refreshing change from strip malls and parking lots, and it would give Islanders fans a lot to do before and after the games. I am all for protecting the environment and doing this right, but let’s hope Mrs. Murray gets her head out of the sand and let’s the Lighthouse be built.

  78. avatar JayK says:

#68 — it’s true that you can only vote for TOH candidates if you live there. But if you live anywhere else in Nassau County, and you see a candidate at the train station, or on the street, or if they have an email address (which all of them do, obviously), you can do as I have done with several Republicans. You send them a note saying you’re a Republican — which I am — and I am disgusted at the party’s backward-looking stance on the Lighthouse. As a result, even though I can’t vote against Kate Murray, I’m voting straight Democratic no matter where I live. And emphasize that means County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, the only Republican county-wide office holder. She got into office last time by a whisker, and if she is re-elected this year, it’s likely to be by a whisker again. They desperately want to keep that position. A few hundred angry Long Islander fans all over Nassau, persuading their families to vote Row A all the way, could make a significant point. (I wrote Maureen O’Connell and told her exactly that. Funny…I didn’t hear back! )

  79. avatar JohnR says:

Here’s what I think is happening. Murray wants to be re-elected but is afraid that if she approves the lighthouse before election day she will lose enough voters from Garden City to make it a close race. Maybe to close for comfort. Could they have talked privately and Kate said “just wait until after election day until you make a decision because I think you will be pleasantly suprised when the time comes.”? Also by delaying this she gets her name and face in the papers which is free publicity for re-election. The scale back has to be on a small level because Wang has invested millions in getting this thing going and won’t want to lose too much of that prep money. Is she just throwing a bone to the opposers of the LH with the scaleback? Either way I do believe they are all well aware of the election and I believe something will get done shortly after she wins. Its just too close to election day for her to make a decision of this magnitude that could effect her run.

  80. avatar JPinVA says:

    Scale it back:
    A. Remove SMG.
    or
    B. Remove the Islanders.
As owner of the NY Islanders, for once, do something that is the best thing for the New York Islanders.
I can’t really see why Islander fans are all over this. The ISLANDERS will be in the same boat when this is done. They will not be a solid profitable entity because SMG will be sucking the life out of the franchise while Wang makes billions.
    FREE THE HOSTAGE!!!
5 more years… put them on the open market… see what happens.
I want to see the lighthouse, because it means jobs for long islanders… but I could care less if charles wang made a dime on it. I want to see the Islanders in a position to finally exist on their own two feet… this just isn’t going to do it.
They need a deal where they are independent of billion dollar land deals.
    They need competent ownership.
    They need competent management.

I can’t believe anyone still thinks that someone else would buy this team without the promise of being able to develop the land. Even then why would they believe the promise when Wang was promised the same thing bythe same politicians? What’s the sales pitch? ” Hey look how great it would be to own this team! You won’t be getting any concessions or parking etc. because you will be tied into a lease you can’t get out of. Also there’s the excitement of the sewer system failing and filling the locker rooms with human waste! If that’s not enough for you how about the fact that you will lose millions every year even when you make the playoffs? Not sold yet, wait, there’s more. Your biggest rival owns your hometown newspaper and doesn’t allow Islander news in it unless it’s on the back page. Why are you laughing? He also owns Time Warner cable which plays Devils games over your team in upstate NY. STOP LAUGHING”!

  82. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

#76 – If what you say is actually fact, you kiss the whole thing goodbye. Wang and Co have only one bargaining chip. The NY Islanders. And I’m not sure that’s enough.

  83. avatar JohnR says:

The only way the team gets sold is to an owner who’s going to move them somewhere else. And remember, that owner most likely won’t have ties to NY like Wang does. Be careful what you wish for.

I don’t buy the “it’s too late to negotiate”, never too late to negotiate & make progress. The Developer’s ego is saying “it’s too late”. It’s never too late to save Long Island. I’m sure The Developer would agree. Long island is worth it. Once both parties put their ego in a draw, anything’s possible. Even saving Long Island.

How and when do we vote against Murray ?

  86. avatar Jethro09 says:

I am sooooo over this soap opera. I can’t take it anymore. I know it will never happen, but it would be better for all Isles’ fans to get no further information or leaks about the Lighthouse until a final decision is made. I’m sick of all these “he said, she said” crap and weekly jabs from both sides. Either approve it or reject it so everyone can move on.

  87. avatar Harold C says:

To say it’s the current LH or bust is wholly false. You think that Wang spent millions on one specific set of plans? No chance. He’s got a smaller scale plan that would allow him to grow into the big layout he would really like, guaranteed. He’s be nuts not to, there is too much money at stake to not have that covered.

I do agree with the poster who said the only bargaining chip is the Islanders and it may not be enough – that is a dead on statement.

Wake me up when it’s over.

  88. avatar bossy4president says:

    Are you serious #80?????
If and when this gets done SMG is out of the picture. The cuffs will be off so to speak. The LHP already has a new lease waiting on the approval from the TOH.

  89. avatar cgs878 says:

Wang wants to keep the conversations out of the media. He also will not announce “the meetings” that he has, either before or after. Murray seems like the pissed off younger sister, who does the opposite of what the older brother wants. If this wasn’t real life, it might actually be quite comical.

  90. avatar Billy O says:

If I am Charles Wang, I tell the TOH and Murray to go pound salt and move his team to Queens or Brooklyn.

  91. avatar Isles fan Ken says:

Hasn’t Charles Wang asked for a yes or no answer? Why can’t the TOH answer a question? In respect to the comment guidelines, I will not say what I feel about Murray and the TOH, but this toying with my emotions on something that is very important to me, that’s a part of my life is unacceptable. TOH, please keep this out of the media and come to some type of final decision. Please, all parties involved, put an end to this and let me enjoy hockey and being an islander fan.

  92. avatar miket239 says:

But people have the nerve to blame the Lighthouse group for not playing fair. All the horse crap waiting around for answers is squarely on the shoulders of Nassau Co, the ToH and that Murray person.
MOVE THE ISLES OUT OF NASSAU…MAKE NASSAU A MEMORY.

  93. avatar Terrance says:

I wish Wang would just scale the project down a little and get the TOH board approval. His childish nonsense of “yes or no” is not the way to negotiate.

Does the project have to be 42 buildings and 500,000sq ft of retail space for Wang to make money with it? He can’t make money with maybe 30 buildings and 400,000sq ft of retail? I find that hard to believe.

  94. avatar Pete M says:

There’s no wonder she’s airing all the talk about their negotiations despite Wang’s wishes. Either he agrees to scale back or he walks away. Either way she comes across as the great compromiser and he comes out looking bad.

  95. avatar isle5 says:

Republicans, Democrats, what’s the difference? Nothing! Its all about power, control,& patronage. Free market, What free market? Hempstead Town Board COMMIES!

  96. avatar Dan says:

Nothing is gana get done until after the election. No politician would ever say yes or no to a project like this so close to an election. We will see sometime after November 3rd hopefully.

  97. avatar art says:

go isles lets root for the LH
