NYI at OTTAWA, 7:05: LIVE CHAT TONIGHT!
Biron makes debut; PB on XM Radio at 6:00 pm
Point Blank will host our first true Live Chat tonight, starting with the puck drop a little after 7 EST. Let me know in Comments if you plan on being part of it.
*
12:40 pm - Martin Biron, who hasn’t played in 15 days, gets his first start for the Islanders tonight. Pascal Leclaire starts for Ottawa.
Lineup:
Moulson - Tavares - Okposo
Schremp - Bailey - Hunter
Bergenheim - Weight - Sim
Comeau - Park - Jackman
Streit - Gervais
Witt - Martinek
Sutton - Meyer
Biron
Scratches: Tambellini, Thompson, Hillen
Out for Ottawa tonight: Shannon, Kuba, Winchester
*
Rob Schremp makes his Islanders debut tonight. If anyone wonders why the Oilers’ waiver dump is immediately getting quality icetime and power play shifts with good linemates, check out these responses when I spoke to Scott Gordon and Schremp about it.
Gordon: “We have to see if he can make it as a top-six forward. That’s how he’s going to stick on this team.”
Schremp: “It’s a big opportunity for me and I’m appreciative. I understand that if I’m going to make it here, I have to prove I belong on one of the top-2 lines. This is my chance.”
There’s the explanation.
*
Something to watch out for tonight. This is Ottawa’s home opener. The Senators have a few guys who like to throw big hits, a few others who play chippy-dirty. The Islanders…let’s just say this isn’t the league’s grittiest lineup they’re dressing tonight. Maybe the Islanders get by with their forecheck, skill and “team toughness.” This is an excellent test for a well-rested team coming off three days of good practices.
*
I’ll be on with Jim “Boomer” Gordon on NHL Home Ice on XM Radio a little after 6:00 pm tonight previewing tonight’s game and talking all things Islanders.
Live Chat tonight. RSVP in Comments if you’re a Yes.

Please Wait

Yes!!! Sim in…Tambellini out…this is the best lineup yet.
haha, Gina, i knew you would be happy!
I hope Biron gets a shutout
But for the absence of toughness up front, I like this lineup. Hopefully, we will see a good effort tonight. If Schremp pans out, it would seem that Tambellini’s days are numbered.
Don’t the lines look good now with the health we have?
Would of been nice to see more fight in the line-up, they forgot it in bridgeport..
I’ll be here CB. A little late because I have a very important kickball game at 6 (yes, I play kickball and I am an adult). But I should be back around 730.
I’m going to try to be here tonight.
I like the line up, surprised about Moulson over Tambellini (!) but not unhappy about it, and for some reason “scared” (but still excited!) about tonight’s game. Don’t remember ever seeing Schremp play.
Please please no injuries…everyone keep your heads UP.
Hey CB, can’t make it tonight because I have a food tasting for my wedding. But anyone who is around should definitely participate. I really enjoyed the opening night chat during the Caps vs. B’s game. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!
For better or worse, this is the best lineup we can expect to see this year (except for Franz). I’m interested to see Schremp play, he seems to have all the motivation in the world to play well.
Still, memories of Justin Papineau keep coming to me for some reason.
yawn about the fighting and toughness, I know we dont know about Schremp, but these 4 lines definitely make this team very competitive. I would like to see Comeau up on that 3rd line instead of Sim, but a Comeau-Park-Jackman 4th line is pretty solid. Tambellini and Thompson are riding the pine. Couldnt be happier.
I’ll be there Bottaman. Love the lineup tonight, we’ll see what we can get out of Schremp…
I’ll be on the chat…
I don’t mind a gritty game, just don’t need to see more that Dion Phaneuf style garbage from a team. There is gritty and then there is dirty….
I’ll be there.
I should be there for the live chat. If the play like they did on Saturday, they should be able to skate with Ottawa. Just have to hope Saturday was a reflection of this team and not just a temporary adrenaline rush.
Sounds good, count me in for the live chat. I anticipate a rough game, hopefully there will be no injuries.
#3 - you just jinxed it
Tempting me to get NHL Center Ice so I can see NYI in Ohio.
Would love to swing one of these young forwards - Tambellini and or Comeau to Chicago for Cam Barker. They need cap relief and we need help on the blueline
I’ll be there.
Yeah, #3 jinxed it before Howie could.
Live Chat…I’m in.
I’m going to be watching the game on delay due to a family committment. If I get caught up during the game, I’ll join the live chat.
Love the lineup! As for toughness we have Jackman! He can hold his own with alot of guys.
Great looking lineup tonight. Only thing I’d prefer is Tanguay/Joensuu over Sim, but hey, he’s been bustin’ his tail since camp, right? Looking forward to adding Frans back to this lineup. Looks like this year will be the battle of Schremp vs. Tambellini for the 6th spot on the top 2 lines. Hopefully Rob won’t get pushed off the puck as easily as Jeff does.
I hope JT gets a hat trick playing his 1st game in Canada
and oh ueah, I’m in
I’m in CB. Can’t wait to chat tonight.
The chat’s on Fanhouse, yes? Looking forward to it.
Coaching staff is dead on. You can’t ask a Rob Schremp type to play on a 4th line in a checking role. In order for him to prove himself he needs to have other skilled guys around him. I have a real good feeling about this kid.
#19 - I’d try to pry Versteeg away from them, but Barker is just as good. That team has tons of young talent and the Isles should try and bargain for any one of those guys.
As for the lineup tonight, “team toughness” should not just be Jackman. Witt, Sutton, and maybe Hunter should always be ready to drop the gloves and take some licks from other teams’ heavyweights until the Isles pick someone up that does that full time. Heck, even Okposo should learn to drop em’ for the right fight. Okposo has been compared to Iginla, and Jerome will drop the gloves if need be, Kyle should too, and make his “A” really meaningful.
With the “absence of toughness,” it would really help if Sutton would step-up and bang.
#30
I would love to get Byfuglien, but Chicago isnt stupid enough to trade him. Barker is 6′3, 220 and can play the physical game. Worried that our 3rd pairing isnt NHL caliber anymore
2010-11 D
Streit
Bruno
Dehaan
Hamonic
Barker
Martinek
Volchenkov
A combo of those seven, with the outside possibility of Fowler, Gormley or Gudbranson being drafted in the first round.
#18. If you have digital cable Center Ice has a free preview until the 24th
Maybe they shouldve taken that approach with tambellini instead of telling him he needs to play a better checking role. On a side note: This team is going to need some speed up front in a hurry.try 2 package tambellini w sum1 and get brule out of edmonton
I’ll be here, can’t wait. GO ISLANDERS
MJS (#30), did you see the one tussle that Hunter participated in last year? I have a hard time saying he participated - he was more of an interactive spectator. I would love for him to have some more toughness to his game but that isn’t his game. He hits but he doesn’t bone crush. I don’t have a problem with KO getting involved though. He looks like he would be able to more than hold his own…
I doubt I will be able to see the game here in Ithaca with stupid Time Warner Cable so I’ll definitely be here to talk about the game
If at least one if my internet capable devices holds up, I’ll be in the chat. Yay gamenight!
I am going to try to participate in the chat, but I am not certain that I will be able to.
(#18 numbers 65) Center Ice is FREE until Oct 31. I am going to order it but not until oct 30th last day for the early bird discount. Man hockey is $$ between my upcoming league fees and center icethats like $500 bones
i’m in
The team definitely needs an upgrade on D and O. The only solid position is goaltending. Looking at the line-up the holes jump out at you. Hopefully chemistry and drive will offset the shortcomings this season.
CB, not to turn this into a message board type of thing, but…
Joe, #36, I know it’s not really Hunter’s game, but the lineup we have going on the ice tonight will be out there again and again. When the Isles come across teams like the Flyers and the Leafs that will be jockeying for the league lead in penalty minutes there will be dirty stuff that happens and guys like Hunter are going to have to come out of their comfort zones and deal with the crap. That being said I think Eric Cairns should be running a separate and mandatory 70 minute fighting practice before games with Philly and Toronto. J/K, but not really.
Looking forward to seeing Shremp play, and liking the lines. When Franz comes back, I’d probably like to see Comeau up with JT and KO, with Moulson down on the 4th. Thats if him and JT don’t keep up some magic.
I thought Tambs looked good in the opener. If he scored in that shootout instead of hitting the post, I think perceptions of him might have gone up a tick or two
Hey guys we’re one game into this season and we’re posting roster moves for next year? Lets pull back on the reins a little.
And I’ll be there for the live chat. And Im expecting a 4th line goal tonight.
sounds like schremp is getting the chance tambellini never got and appears never will get.
#43 - Bailey, KO and JT are definite top 6 forwards.
Maybe Schremp and Moulson are diamonds in the rough. Hunter, Nielsen (#3 centerman) and Bergy are top 9 forwards. Parky is our #4 center.
Weight is our veteran presence.
This team need two top 4 Dmen, one preferably a 6′3, 220 pounder (Volchenkov from OTT is a FA after the season), an enforcer, and one top six forward to wing the Tavares or Bailey line
We are definite playoff contenders in ‘10-11
Two things I don t understand , those of you who keep lumping Hunter in with other guys who can fight, he can’t. Why is everyone so high on Franz? He is a soft undersized 3rd line center at best who problably wouldn t make most teams.
Franz and Hunts work really well together. We just dont know who this season’s Sillinger is. Maybe Bergy. All I know is that Tambellini, Witt, Sutton, Meyer and Comeau are on the bubble!!!
i think lineup is great tonight.
Give Schremp a chance. if he pulls a versteeg and lights it up for us this year. all the better. Schremp is getting a few weeks to prove himself trust me. Tambellini has had over 80 games to show us what he did in AHL and hasnt yet. CHAD -47 i thought the same about Tambellini two years ago under nolan. but last year he got plenty of pp time and did nothing.
I think playing Sim getting start over Tambellini b/c he is more of grinder. Sim has been playing great in preseason
Moulson is only guy on team earned his spot. he is on short leash trust me.
Tambellini is another Schremplike player.
Tambellini and Comeau for barker would be a dream. i could only wish.
A little concerned about the toughness factor, this why I say thompson should be in the lineup. but we have too many Centermen with Franz back Moulson or Schremp wil have to go to Bridgeport to make room for Park on the wing and then what is Franz going to center the 4th line? And what about the games where we need the Wrecker whos going to get demoted. I personally think Sim is a tough player and should fight but I think were putting too much pressure on Tim Jackman.
Might be a rough night for Johnny T with Volchenkov and Neil running around out there.
we should try and get Ilya Zubov from the sens hes tryin 2 get out of his contract to go back to russia because he isnt playin for sens..
Why no Hillen yet? He’s not going to develop if he’s riding the pine.
Cb, did you purposely misspell his name “Schemp” when you wrote his quote explaining his chance at sticking as a top 6 forward?
I think most of us have heard all the 3 stooges jokes so many times over the last week that these things happen.
Hillen, maybe replace Meyer, but as far as a top 4 Dman, can’t see it.
Okposo has been compared to Iginla, and Jerome will drop the gloves if need be, Kyle should too, and make his “A” really meaningful.
not only will he drop’em, iginla’s one of the best fighters in the league i think.
MJS, # 44, I totally understand but I would rather see a guy up from the Bridge like Haley or Gillies doing dirty work than Hunter. I sill have the image burned in my head of Hunter behind the net with his helmet off and the top of his head being a knuckle cushion.
I am not sure what happened to Anton Volchenkov but I remember seeing him early in his career and earning the nickname the “A-Train.” The guy could flat out hit. KO, JT, and the other youngsters better keep their heads up.
To be honest, the lack of “toughness” in this lineup does concern me slightly.
However, guys like Witt and Jackman are usually more than willing to drop the gloves when necessary…and this lineup definitely sounds much more capable of winning when you substitute Comeau, Weight, and Schremp for Rechlicz, Thompson, Tambs…
I still like Tambs, but I think Thompson is the biggest waste of a roster spot. I hope he is the one who gets scratched or sent down when Franz comes off the IR, although I know Coach Gordon loves Thompson so I doubt that will happen unfortunately…
ill be late but here. im worried about the toughness part but it is competitive.
i’m interested to see what schremp can do. it does appear that it’s schremp vs. tamby for a roster spot. schremp has the talent to be a top 6 forward. hopefully he just needed a change of scenery.
Everytime I start getting excited about the team I look at the line up and it smacks me hard back into reality.
The entire right side of the defense needs to be replaced.
I can’t believe Gordo is once again going to be caught with his pants down in the toughness department. Oh well he’s gonna get his little bottom spanked until it’s red, if not tonight wait until Boston gets hold of these delicate little flowers. YIKES!
Expect Campolli to be a jack ass tonight and start something dirty because he’s got the big guy playing next to him.
I think the most aggravating thing about the toughness issue is it could have been addressed without making any huge moves, Snow and Gordon has chosen to not properly address it. They had several days to look at the Ott line up and see if they match up and they don’t. Jackman couldn’t handle Niel last year and he isn’t the toughest guy on their team. Yet they sent Wrecker to Bridge despite Bridgeport not playing any games.
Don’t worry I am sure Snow is scouring the AHL & ECHL for some more small puck movers and small forwards who can’t make it any where else.
Thompson is far from tough!!! He can’t fight, hit, or score. All he cam do is win some faceoffs. HE SUCKS!!!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Hunter is pound-for-pound the biggest nancy in the league.
so, the team is obviously not holding back Tavares. Jeez, top line center. Can’t really say someone fits that spot better than him, but still, 19 year old rookie starting line. Gotta get your feet wet somehow I suppose.
I’ll be on ustream/justin.tv if Boston isnt carrying the free October Center Ice.
I would love to be a part of the live chat! Only problem is I live in upstate NY and Time warner cable doesn’t show Islander games on MSG+ when the Rangers or Devils are playing on MSG. They didn’t show the Isles home opener, instead opting to show WOMENS COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL while the Rangers were playing their second game against Ottawa on MSG. I mean why would they want to show the #1 draft pick play against one of the greatest players in the league in Sidney Crosby when they can show teenage girls hit a ball over a net? And tonights lineup for MSG+, THE Devils and Lightning because everyone knows how much upstate New Yorkers love New Jersey teams! I called Time Warner and they said it was up to the NHL when it comes to which games get aired in which regions. I called to order the NHL package but it’s $168 a season and they told me there was no guarantee that I would be able to watch all of the Islander games so what’s the point. Can anyone help me with a solution that doesn’t involve moving my family downstate? CB is there anyone I can write to about this? You would think the Isles would want more people to watch, especially New Yorkers, seeing how they need new fans. Signed, Lost in Hell!
I’ll be there for the chat
I like the line up tonight. I hate to be talking about trades but there are plenty of comments about holes in the line up and a top winger for JT. I hope we throw as much money as we possibly can at Kovalchuk in the offseason. With that being said, I hope ATL has a horrific year so he doesn’t wanna stay there. Just sayin’.
I’m in for the chat.
It is ridiculous that Roloson isn’t playing. There has been 5 days since the last game and Roloson had a great night.
As for Schremp what would be the point of getting him and then putting him on a 4th line. If he plays there a few games and doesn’t earn the spot then he will be out. However, it is hard to showcase offensive ability on a 4th line with Thompson and Jackman.
should be a fun game to watch tonight. can’t wait…
(68) Buy the NHL.COM package, watch it online, and hook your laptop/desktop up to your computer if you need to watch it on a T.V.
I go to school in Mass and I watch it via SlingBox HD. HD feed from home straigt to my laptop, then HDMI hooked up into my LCD TV. Looks great.
Hy CB - Is Jim ‘Boomer’ Gordon any relation to the old Rag$ announcer that used to do their games with the ‘Big Whistle’?
This idea that Tambellini has not had a chance to prove himself is false, he’s just never seized any of them.
DOC
CB, I’ve enjoyed the FanHouse chats so far and will be here for the Pointblank chat.
….Sim in the lineup? Why? He better not be a minus player again, and he better generate some offense. Otherwise I am gonna go on an anti Sim tirade of epic proportions.
im deff there
My sons 11 year old team might be tougher than this team they r icing tonight. I got my no doze ready!!
Will Bridgeport even play Rechlitz since they were forced to go sign Trevor Gillies because the Isles gave them no real toughness? Even our minor league team recognized our prospects are weak.
I will be there for live chat
Will try to get home for the second period …gotta visit my mom in the hospital
#72, Thank you very much. I’m looking into it right now.
If complaining were currency, Islanders fans would be rich.
I should be back in time for the chat
Would normally be attending the online chat, but I have work tonight. If you’re using the RSVP for the possibility of chats continuing, count me as a yes for future ones.
#83 Peter dead on!!! It’s embarrassing at times..
For those posting about rechlitz, gillies and toughness…yawn. Skill wins!
Probably won’t be on the chat but my first chat entry would be about the whole msg+2 thing - why the isles always get bumped down and how it burns watching that stupid cablevision commercial about all NY teams in HD while I’m forced to watch my fav NY team in crappy old standard def.
what a great response by the coach about Schremp starting. pulled no punches. nice.
For those posting about how skill wins games we tried that approach last year and we all know how that ended. Does this suggest we have no skill? No skill plus no toughness equals Islander Hockey!
For all u enforcer junkies, how many enforcers were on pitt and det last year. The answer was one. Godard. He did not play a game in playoffs or pretty much for 2nd half of season
Neil and other goods are useless if they have noone to fight. Don’t worry refs will pretect tavares and we’ll have bunch of pp.
Goals hurt more than punches. Let’s go isles.
Godard played 71 regular season games last year far from half a year, and a couple of playoff games. You are right they don’t play much in the playoffs, but when you have a bunch of kids on the team you need protection during the year. They are not a playoff team so why not replace sim with a tough guy?
Ill be here
Seriously. Enough with toughness. We should have addresed but we didn’t. There are guys that can step up if needed. Sutton. Witt. Comeau. Okposo. Jackman. It is not always whether you win the fight but will you stand up. I think this team is prepared to stand up for eachother. Let the season play itself out. Heck. Let’s play 5-10-15 games and than comment. Until we have certainty one way or another regarding the stadium we are bot making a run for anyone or making a big sign. Beat chance we have is stealing someone off chi roster. Lineup tonight has speed so let’s see how speed counteracts toughness. Can’t hit it if you can’t catch it.
Skill, size, and toughness win. It’s not one thing. Like in life balance must be created. Det and Pit loaded up on size and toughness this summer. Plus, if you saw Ana beat the living you know what out of Det’s skill guys in the playoffs (because Ana has skill with size who can fight) you tell me if you ever want to see the Isles skill players being destroyed like that? Sadly I think some of you wouldn’t mind.
I’ll definitely be in for the chat CB.
I’m in ready for some hockey already!
with beer in hand im in!!!
CB you rock
Uh, just curious, didn’t Detroit beat Anaheim?
CB, sorry for the numerous posts but like I said earlier I unfortunately won’t be around for the chat. I went to DVR the game on IO (Cablevision) and started going crazy because it is on an overflow channel. Before everyone goes nuts looking for it on Cablevision, it is on channel 414. Enjoy the game! LETS GO ISLANDERS!
What channel is the game on tonight for IO cable?
I know MSG+2, but what channel is that?
I found it on ch 90-something… is that right?
Bleh..
Yeah, when you have a tough guy on your team the other team NEVER hits your kids. (sarcasm) The people who are so bent out of shape about their not being a true heavyweight in the lineup are the same people who would stop watching hockey if their was no fighting. They only want to see fights and blood and couldn’t care less about the skill it takes to be an all star. How many enforcers make the all star team? Exactly, and those all stars aren’t being “protected” by the enforcer. The enforcer fights one of their opponents tough guys if one of his all stars gets hit. But his mere prescence doesn’t stop other teams from hitting the good players. There’s no such thing as “taking a run at someone”. In hockey that’s called a body check. The people who are mad about not having an enforcer don’t care about protecting the kids, they’re just upset that they won’t see a lot of fights.
Tamby will have his chance again. I feel Gordon will try to get a little friendly competition between Schremp and Tamby, but I feel that by mid-season, both Tamby and Schremp will be regulars in the lineup. Also remember that more injuries will occur. IMHO I think Tamby and Schremp should both be playing on a line together.
its game 2, gordon wants to see what he has in schremp, they have a logjam at forward, someone has to sit
I’ll chat for the first two periods.
I’ll chat for a while
I’m in for the chat! Just made it!
I’ll bet that Det signed Brad May for the skill he will provide the team, not the toughness he will provide??
103 how many Islanders made the all-star team last year? 1 maybe what about the 19 or so players? your going to complain about an Enforcer not making the all star game are you kidding me 99% of the players on each team dont make the all star team, hell like 95% of the league doesn’t. So lets just ice two teams of all stars? Make so sense, please???
Okposo’s an animal
OKPOSO’s move=filthy sick
Way to go Moulson!!! How is that for all of the haters of him out there……This line is great! Best Isles line since Turgeon, Thomas and King. Every time they are out there its in the offensive zone. On Saturday I was on the edge of my seat each time they were on the ice. Looks promising…..
Moulson!!!!
Bailey hasn’t been very noticeable
Biron has to play better than this. He let in two softies.
Detroit 0-2?
you know something this team wont win a cup as we all know but they are a pretty good young team that will get better and better as the year goes on i would like our d to hold our blueline better(i just like when you make the other team make a play at our blueline or have to dump it in,stepping up at the blueline creates offsides and timing issuesso i get pissed when we just let them in our zone?) but i still think we can compete for a playoff spot
steven i hear you with biron but he also got us a point with that save on kovi with like 2 min left
next offseason Garth Snow has to bring in some quality free agents. the core of this team is growing as we speak and with some help, the playoffs might not be as far away as people think. 10 million off the books, hopefully they use it in the right places.
Breaking news the Red Wings have won a fight!! They now have won more fights than the Islanders will all year!! Breaking news Garth the Red Wings have a fighter drop everything and do as they do go get a FIGHTER !!!!!! Follow the leader !!!!!!
breaking News: The Wings chances of winning the cup are now over they have a fighter.
