TIME TO GIVE NYI FANS BACK THEIR GOAL SONG
Enough already, give the people what they want
CB at FanHouse on Tavares ex-teammate Del Zotto
UPDATED at 11:45 am – HEY! I tried. I tried to bring the discussion back to “Rock and Roll Part 2″ versus the failed Islanders’ attempt to re-invent their goal song with “Burn it to the Ground.” The momentum was strong toward a return to “R & R” for the first few hours, but now dozens of people are bringing it back to “You suck” issue, recommending this song or that song or asking for the team to put up a poll on the official site.
In other words, many of you proved the Islanders correct for experimenting with it. Highly doubtful they’ll go back to the traditional goal song now. Oh well, we tried. Like I said, it’s all about giving the people want they want. From the looks of the Comments space, not enough people are on the same page or know what they want.
You can be sure the experimentation will continue. Thanks for all the feedback.

7:55 pm, The Rock - I’m at Rangers-Devils tonight. When Rob Niedermayer and Travis Zajac scored in the first period, the New Jersey fans stood and erupted in unison with “HEY”! to “Rock n Roll Part 2.” For the last season plus one game, I’ve watched from the press box as Islanders fans look around and don’t know what goal song is being played and what they’re supposed to do.
The Islanders have been dinking around with the thing for a long time. They have re-mixed and re-edited and whiffed big-time. They’ve replaced the classic adopted hockey chant by Gary Glitter – a convicted pedophile – with a lame song by Nickelback called “Burn it to the Ground.” I’d post the lyrics, but I can’t on a PG-13 hockey blog. To sum it up, the song sounds like Nickelback’s attempt to prove they know some dirty words.
The Islanders need to come to grips with the realization that they tried something different – there go those Islanders, reinventing wheels that don’t need re-inventing – and failed. Unlike other mistakes, this one is easily fixed. The organization has so many issues it needs to get right – starting with the winning thing. Go back to the Islanders’ traditional goal song so no one ever has to post about it on a message board or blog, or send an email again.
Lou Lamoriello is okay with “Rock and Roll Part 2.” Far more importantly, it’s what Islanders fans want. If the Islanders can’t get past the Gary Glitter issues, there are cover versions to choose from. I guarantee you no one will ever cover “Burn it to the Ground.” While we wait for the team to rebuild and wait to see where the Islanders will be playing in a few years, it might not be a bad idea to keep the customers satisfied.
HEY!

HEY!
-
CB: You are the man but really this organization can’t even do opening night introductions right!?!?..nor can i get a clear radio broadcast of the game from less than 3 miles from the coli….you are asking too much
-
YES! Of all the things the Islanders can do to make the fans happy in some small familiar way.. is it really to much to ask?! We want the whole thing from rock n roll to the woo’s. Do it!
-
….Is it me or do I sense a bit of an edge CB. I am quickly becoming a CB disciple. I am so ashamed……..lol.
-
VERY GLAD you brought this up CB, great job! The stadium erupted when Tavares scored that goal, that you did not even need a song, but when Hunter scored it wasnt as loud and not having the hey song was obviously vital and missing from the Coliseum. I know this is not an on ice issue, but it is an important one and the Islanders can easily change this and make there fan base happy. The Hey SOng rocks and it rocks the building!
-
amen brother. rock and roll part II is the only song that makes sense in this screwy world..
-
next time they score we should all chant…
Gar-y Gli-tter *clap clap clapclap clap*
-
great post CB – ive been comin to games since i was born 21 years ago as my family has had season tix. There was nothing like standing up and rockin to the HEY song after a big goal , now i just stay in my seat , bc the new song blows and provides 0 energy to the building – BRING BACK THE OLD SONG!
-
it’s not the fact that gary glitter played the song.. i know for a fact that it has to do with the fact that the fans go “You Suck” after the “Hey” in the song! They changed it to the original song to try to avoid it! and guess what.. the fans found a way to say it anyway.. so they played with it till they found a song that does not even offer the fans the chance to say “you suck”
-
Bring back the old song!!
-
For all that is holy and mighty PLEASE GIVE US BACK OUR GOAL CHANT!!!
Thank you Chris for being the voice of the fans! It’s so deflating when we score a goal and can’t finish the celebration because some unheard of song that doesn’t have a recognizable “chant” comes on.
I’m not sure what the organization had in mind when they took away the one thing that made us happy at games. The cheering. Which came very infrequently!
Just give us a break please! Aren’t we suffering enough already????
-
Was about to write exactly what post 11 wrote. The fans did this one to themselves. Mets fans ruined the “Let’s go Mets!” chant adding the stupid WOOT!! to the end of it, now Isles fans ruined “na na NAAAA na HEY!!” I’m going to have to explain enough dumb things to my daughter when I take her to her first game later this year, I’m glad I don’t have to splain this one.
-
Please, no more Rock and Roll pt. 2… I can’t stand it. Use that cool Satriani tune, Crowd Chant, or something.
-
Amen! And while they’re at it, how about a real inspirational pre-game video for the scoreboard instead of the anemic soft one I saw Saturday night. Whoever is in charge of this stuff at the Islanders office should be fired.
-
If we don’t get the lighthouse can we at least get our goal song back?!?
-
I just don’t get it? What purpose is there to screw up the goal song? Give us back our goal song. This organization involves itself far too much in areas that don’t need it. I’m sick of it. We want our goal song back!!!!
-
and while your at it, bring back the chicken dance.
pretty please . -
100% with ya on this one, CB. Clearly our email campaigns to the ToH didn’t do anything, but maybe we can get a small victory and bombard the Isles ’till we get our goal song back!
-
last year’s pregame scoreboard video was better than this year’s crap..
-
Agreed, 100%! I don’t like the awkward, confusing feeling in the air when they play whatever song they decide on going with at that given time. Bring back our familiar song and let the fans enjoy themselves already.
-
AMEN…CB!!!!
-
Why don’t they just use “E-Pro” by Beck or the old stand by “Song 2″ by Blur?
There’s a whole library of music to choose from if folks can’t get past the Gary Glitter thing. But who really cares? There are are lots of greaqt works of art created by devious folks. Has nothing to do with the work.
Gar Glitter may be a pedophile but “Rock and Roll Part 2″ is not ecouraging it or anything. It’s just a song. Who even really knows or cares about the guy who wrote it anyways?
-
I grew up chanting HEY after every goal, shouting WOOO after the song ended. It doesnt matter what pathetic song they choose to play, nothing will be the same as rock and roll pt 2. bring it back already!
-
does anyone know who we send emails to in regards to this? I have about 10 things I would like to bring up to the Game ops folks. Some of this stuff they do is minor league-esque. Its a farce.
We have a mascot of an arena football team that doesnt even exist anymore. WTF?!? Our goal song sucks, Crowd Chant would be the ideal goal song or bring back the old one. Do we need Quagmeyer going “giggity giggity goo” after each goal?Do we need promotions like karate night, and french student night? I wont write everything here but I will be happy to post my email in the comments section of th eblog after I write one to the Isles game ops folks. I mean, get a clue people. Oh, and the tem should come onto the ice to “thunderstruck” by ACDC!!! -
Motion seconded and passed. Just give it up and go back. And play the chicken dance also. You know, all the classics.
-
Agree 100%
-
this is acctually something we need to bring some energy back after a goal
-
I agree…I’m just hoping we are done with fans requesting that awful Chelsea Dagger song.
-
Absolutely Rock and Rock Part 2.The Penguins use it,the Red Wings use it and the Steelers use it.Good Pedigree. The Quintessential sports anthem!
-
Your mouth to god’s (or Wang’s) ears CB. Enough already with this crap. I feel like these different songs take the life out of the crowd because most of us are confused or annoyed that the new song is lame. Just because you have the word “hey” on the jumbo tron doesnt mean there is a good spot for us to say it. Bring back R&R part 2 PLEASE!
-
Making the simple change back is far too much for Chris Dey to comprehend.
-
i agree.
-
There’s a ton of songs they can use, just look around the league not everyone uses rock and roll pt 2. Pick one and keep it. My vote is Pennywise’s Bro Hymn.
-
Sorry, but I just can’t agree with any of you. This is the worst type of criminal who prey on children. Forgive me if I am wrong, but the Islanders actually have to pay this guy royalty when the song gets played. What is wrong with having some moral standard? What is so important about a goal song?
-
34 – I am a lawyer. The Isles do not have to pay him when they play the song. I also don’t think asking why a goal song is so important even needs to be answered.
-
“Won’t get fooled again” The part where roger daltrey screams “YEAHHHHH” and subsequent guitar riff would be ideal. Quagmire’s giggity’s are awful.
-
Bring it back, please.
-
WO ! Thats my Buddy’s job, I’m calling him right now so he can see you trashing him, and see what he says
-
Isles will never admit their mistake. The HEY goal song is gone for good.
-
I agree with you CB, but to preach to us something we been unhappy with for over a year doesn’t do any good. We need to let the people in charge THIS SUX! Which by the way, I miss that chant and goal song!
-
I was at the game on Saturday and when the Isles scored their first goal of the season I turned to my father and said “I have no idea what I’m supposed to do”. That song sucks.
-
Here here!!!
-
Right on about Rock And Roll Pt 2. It reminds me of when the Isles removed the chicken dance. I agree with #8…getting Gary Glitter chants would get some attention…not sure if it would actually work though since they’re upset over the “you suck” chant, which I think helped bring this on in the first place. But no doubt…bring it back.
-
i’m in the minority on this issue. i’m not at all comfortable with paying royalties to a child molester. if the isles can play the song (or a cover) of it w/o paying royalties then that’s ok. otherwise go with something else. i’ve always thought that van halen’s “ain’t talkin bout love” would be a terrific goal song. the flyers used to use it and i thought it was awesome.
-
This would never happen if Bryan McCabe was still in charge of the music……Woo…..Woo…….Woo……Woo
-
YAH BUT DOOD THE CANADIANS LOVE NICKELBACK
-
How about the old late 1970s/early 1980s siren? After a goal, they would rev it up (really slowly) and it would sound at full blast for about 10 seconds. Afterward, it wouldn’t matter what song was being played because you would have lost your hearing anyway.
Just a thought.
-
#8….love that idea!!!! HEY!!!!
-
Amen to that sir. I agree 100%.
-
I agree, there needs to be something chantable:
Gary Glitter
Blur – “Song 2″
The Fratellis – “Chelsea Dagger”And for the love that is Holy bring back the Chicken Dance. I know Wang is all about making it kid friendly, but my 7 year old nephew loves to yell “The Rangers Suck!”
-
they need to bring back the old song but keep quagmire. i think a goal is the perfect time for a few giggity’s/
-
John Tavares should cover Rock N Roll part 2. It would probably be awesome.
-
I wholeheartedly agree! It wasn’t broken. And I never once thought about Gary Glitter when that played.
-
yup ive been sayin the same things since they stopped doing the chicken dance they gotta get that back in…. i went to one of the isles rags games last season and they played that once and the place got so loud for it ncluding myself… plus this new goal song is horrible when they first introduced it last year i heard it and my and my brother watchin the game were alittle embarassed even tho we were in the room by ourselves lol
-
Amen brother!!!! I was just watching the Islanders greatest games DVD , and was wondering…..”What ever happened to that song” ?? The crowd was SOOOOOOO LOUD on that “HEY” ….just watch and listen to the crowd and that song during Bates’ penalty shot goal! Amazing!! Where do I sign the petition CB ??
-
AMEN CB
-
No holds barred reporting, loven me some pointblank…
Who woulda thought the Isles dropping this blog would just make it better???
Keep it up, Botta!
-
agree totally.i never know what to do when we score.so i just stand up clapping like an idiot lol.either bring that back since its classic or pick a good new song, like Chelsea Dagger (song from the Amstel Light commercial).
-
A big F for Game Ops, from the goal song, to pre-game skate music, to the introductory video. Even the Ice Girls didn’t have a sponsor!
-
BIG thumbs up on this one!!!! BTW, goal song was actually Rock and Roll Part 1 (not Part 2) if it matters to anyone.
-
Thank you Chris! Gary Glitter may be a sicko but at least he never committed the terrible crime of horrible music that Nickelback has. Bring back Rock and Roll part 2 already!!!
-
Couldnt agree more. I mean after the most emotional goal scored in sometime the enjoyment was put to a halt with that garbage they play after each goal. Bring back the Glitter.
-
Totally agree CB. I’ve been going to games since I was 7 and more recently in the past 4 years with my girlfriend who loved the Hey song. Last year we went to a few games and when they scored she had this puzzled look on her face as if she was just told there isn’t a Santa Claus, very upsetting. Bring the song back and let us enjoy the moments.
-
FINALLY!!! Thank you, CB. The voice of reason. Why do they insist on fixing something that wasn’t broken. Goal celebrations haven’t been the same since they got rid of Rock and Roll Part 2.
-
Not having to listen to the morons chant “You Suck” after 41 games’ worth of goals (that was, like, 41 goals in ’07-’08) has been pleasant. Even so, it’d be good to get some sort of an actual goal song back.
-
GREAT POST CB! bring it back!!! please. LGI! HEY!
-
“Burn it to the Ground.” Isn’t that what Mike Milbury did to our team?
-
We need either R&R 2 back (or R&R1) actually. Either that or I think Chelsea Dagger would be fun….going in the whews ans the rest. I have no clue what’s going on now…I just love the horn and that’s symbolic enough!
I love the “You Suck” –in a way–when everyone in the Rock does it–feel sorry for the goalie. -
Brother Chris! I said the same thing in post here on Sat night! They might as well do the friggin goal song in sign language! Its so disorganized with no Rythym ….IT JUST SUCKS! And to repeat my post from Sunday morning….The sound sytem at the coliseum doesn’t help, if we don’t get the LHP can we at least get a set of speakers?
What a novel idea Chris…..Give the fans what they want? Imagine that! -
They never would have gotten rid of it again except that they wanted to stop people from screaming “you suck” at the team whenever they score a goal. Its supposed to be a goal celebration. That is the primary reason why they changed it, I even had an Islanders source specifically tell me so. If the boys who insist on screaming that would only scream it AFTER the celebration, then none of this mess would havbe happened.
-
CB, sorry I disagree. If the Isles played R&R 2 and the Devils played Burn it to the Ground, you’d write how “wonderful it is as a parent that Lou Lamoriello took a stand and refuses to play songs by a pedophile…why are the Isles continuing this outrage?”
It’s too easy to get confirmation for everything just cause the Devils do it. They’re out of touch in their own way.
-
I hate, hate, HATE the Rangers, but I’ve gotta’ admit, I envy their goal song. Seriously, it’s the best in the league, *$@#$!!!!!!!
-
If Gary Glitter doesn’t make a comeback to the Nassau Coliseum I like the idea of Joe Satriani’s Crowd Chant. Also, the pregame video with the Sam Spence song The Equalizer must return (obviously with different content). I still have that on my Ipod followed by The Who – We Won’t Be Fooled Again and GNR – Welcome to the Jungle.
-
Count me against this one. I would rather have the confusion than hear any “YOU SUCK” chants during a goal song.
-
74- The crowd found there way to add it in anyway last year and they’ll do it again this year! People are certainly entitled to there own opinion but there is worse stuff on TV and cartoons that kids watch and hear everyday than a “You Suck” chant at a Hockey Game!
-
I can’t support Gary Glitter in any way, so try something different. I never understood the ‘You Suck’ anyway. It’s just stupid.
-
100% right on this. I have Rock n Roll pt 2 as my c-phone ringer and it makes all my Ranger fans buddies turn their head. Keep the song Dump Nassau County. Queens here we come.
-
This new song is complete garbage.
Chris Dey, listen closely:
1) Bring back the real “Hey Song”
2) Before every game the Islanders dynasty video package should be played as it gets EVERYBODY in the arena up for the game
3) Does anyone else miss the Pirates of the Carribean opening also? -
Islanders goals are so infrequent that I just stare in a blank catatonic state.
-
Heard the new song again live. I like it. Just gotta get used to it. It’s jumpy and has a hard edge to it. Rock and Roll part II isn’t a heavy enough song to really feed into the emotion of hockey, or I got bored with doing the same thing game after game when I had season tickets for 6 years.
-
73 – you are dead on with that. The Rangers goal song is excellent. I can’t help but tap along every time I hear it.
-
this is so right on… been a fan since 94, that song was the only thing i knew.. its sad to say, but they actually managed to take a little piece away from every islanders goal.
-
How is chanting you suck any different from the “if you know the rangers suck clap your hands”song. How is that any different from the chicken dance song? If the problem lies in the words “you suck” then why ever condone it? I understand that these words can hurt family atmosphere but reality is that sports have become an overly competitive and cutthroat business. Fans chant ___hole regularly. Fans chant the goalies name 3 times and then you suck. These actions are fan led and in my opinion unavoidable.
-
HORN!! I don’t need no stinkin’ song.
-
I’m in the minority, but I like the new goal song (hey it’s better than that Let’s Go Islanders garbage they started with last year). But with that being said, I’m an even bigger fan of bringing back Rock n’ Roll Part 1.
PS- I also would like the team to bring back the old “air raid” goal horn. -
our old version of rock and roll part 2 wasnt even the original… it was a cool, unique cover all to ourselves. bring it back
-
The “you suck” chant makes the fans look like idiots. I don’t care about the word “suck,” I care about the fact that it’s totally generic to say “you suck.” At least the various “Rangers suck” chants are directed at another rival team. (At the same time, I think it’s pretty dumb to chant that when the Isles are playing against some other team.)
While I think the Nickelback song is garbage and the team goal songs last year were lame at best, neither is lamer or garbagier than the “you suck” chant. I’d rather get half a celebration than 2 minutes of “you suck.”
-
Amen to that Botta, the experiment is over
-
To all the people saying they’re glad they don’t have to hear people chant You Suck after the song, lighten up its a hockey game lord knows you’d hear a lot worse on the ice. Not everything should be kid friendly.
-
Air raid siren blasting till we can’t hear anymore! Of course if we could go back to throwing handfulls of dollar bill sized confetti, that would be great too. Ah the good old days…
-
For me, hating the “you suck” chant is not about the kids, it’s about it being a dumb chant. I like insults that have some wit and creativity attached. That chant makes me embarrassed to bring a date to the game.
-
There is absolutely NO WAY the Isles should bring back Rock & Roll Pt. 2. I have seriously DESPISED the “you suck” chant from the very first time I heard it. Seriously makes me feel ashamed to be wearing the same jersey as those people. They ruined it for everybody, and now we all have to deal with the consequences.
-
we all know that rock and roll part 1 isn’t coming back. i think they should look into getting a band from LONG ISLAND to write a chant for us. It will give us originality and in wang’s words, it will give the islanders its “own identity”. hey maybe there is a song out there already by and island band that can be used for a chant. what do you all think? know of anything?
-
personally i think coheed and cambrias “welcome home” has great potential. youtube it and go 5 minutes into the song
-
Can’t we just start over? Nickelback is about as weak as it gets. Well, not Cold Play or The Killers weak, but still pathetically lame. As for Gary Glitter, I’m not against his song b/c of his personal actions, I’m against it b/c every friggin NHL team has been using it for 20 years now!!!
It actually started w/the Denver Broncos back during their ’86 Super Bowl run.
Jeez, it’s the 2009-2010 season,,, ain’t there something out there that’s even a little bit original???
-
been a fan since the early 90′s. i agree, bring back r&r part 1. throw in the old, slow air-raid siren this franchise always had up until the ridiculous foghorn, with the horn now. sorta mix the old with the new. that would be cool. and amen to #74, the equalizer video always gave me chills, great pregame track.
-
The Fixer by Pearl Jam.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah!
-
IslesfanND, i love you. Coheed would be amazing!!
-
Run a contest to come up with a new goal song… something original and rockin’. In the meantime, go back to the old song. Or, just play the darn horn and leave it at that.
-
“Us vs. Them” by Sick of it All… now that would be great to hear an entire arena screamin the beginning of that song… give it a listen.. you will agree.
-
If not Rock and Roll part II, surely there is a megadeth song that will work. Oh and whats with the crappy non heavy metal music dabbled in from time to time. I thought we are at a hockey game. Heavy metal all the time! Go heavy or go to Queens.
-
1) Bring back RR Part II
2)The Family Guy sound effects have to go…it’s embarassing.
3)For those of you discussing the pre-game videos – Does anyone remember the video package with “The Equalizer” theme music? Gave me the chills during the Toronto series! -
Been saying this since they pulled it. R&R part 2 should be brought back. Why do we have to be so damn PC about everything?!?! So they said “You suck”. SO WHAT??? They do it all over the country in arenas, nobody else gives a damn!
Chris Dey, and the rest of you who are in charge with this, WAKE UP and give the fans back their goal song. I was at the home opener and we were all wondering what to do when we scored.
-
I also hate the fact that the Rag$ and a good goal song. If the Isles don’t want Glitter at least go back to the Blur song.
Oh and I like the Welcome Home by Coheed & Cambria idea as well. Great song from a local band.
-
#100- Seriously! What happened to Over the Mountain and Crazy Train by Ozzy entering into the 2nd or 3rd. The music they play….even though you can barely understand it anyway is just lame for the Hockey atmosphere!
-
Oh and about the C & C song, I like the beginning heavy riff better as a goal song. You can easily hear where you can incorporate the “Hey!” in the song. That would rock as a goal song. Are you reading this Islanders’ people?
-
An absolutely perfect song, even has a break for the Wooo.. “Yeah” by Kings X.
Give a listen. Islanders are you listening?? PERFECT song -
100% Agree CB, bring back Rock n Roll Pt 2! My only real disappointment with opening night was that each time after the Islanders scored, the crowd went nuts but it was quickly diluted into a confusing soup of the goal song, some people shouting “hey” at different points while others shouting “you suck” at others. It was awful, no unity.
I don’t care that its by Gary Glitter, no one is advocating pedophilia by playing the song. I don’t even really care about the you suck chant. Islanders, bring back out Goal song for the love of God.
-
If they don’t want to bring back Gary Glitter. The NYI website should at least have the 20 second or so clip on ITV. This will allow fans to actually hear the song, so we can anticipate the Heys.
-
I wish they would go back to Song 2 by Blur.
-
They should change the goal song, or at least come out on the ice, to Live for This by Hatebreed. Now that song would get everyone fired up in a hurry.
-
Horn siren more organ…back in the day the song would have meant nothing..make your own noise…bring back harpo, sparklers, noisemakers, drums, the trumpet guy..
.then after a goal play lost by avenged sevenfold. -
Great idea…Just get the 12 year olds and people who act like 12 year olds to stop chanting ‘You suck’ like tools and it may actually happen. Until then, awkard staring is the punishment for being morons…
-
Perfect example of the ‘you suck’ crowd ruining things: Remember the “Cojo” chant from 2002 mocking the goalie? If that happened today, it would end 3 chants in b/c it has to end with ‘you suck.’ So instead for going on for 5 minutes, it goes on for 30 seconds….Again, fix this problem and you can have the goal song back
-
I agree that people will find a way to incorporate “you suck” into any song if they want to, unless they play elevator music after a goal or something. Even Song 2…”Woo Hoo!” “You suck!”…it’s really unavoidable. I like the old air raid siren and a bunch of screaming fans. No song necessary. But if you’re going to have a song, give the people what they want and bring back ol’ reliable R&R Part II.
-
Hey,
Resident Devils Fan-Reader checking in here. Add me to the list of people who loved R&R Part II originally, but CAN’T STAND the immature idiots who chant YOU SUCK. It’s embarrasing, and I’d be in favor of the Devils going back to OLE! from The Bouncing Souls.
-
I live in bay shore and have trouble getting reception too, even on a good radio! Anyway, yeah the goal song needs to be changed to just about anything else. A slow pink floyd song would work better than what they are using now!
-
This was suggested last year by someone on this site, so I can’t take any credit for it, but Ladies and Gentelman by Saliva would be a great goal song. Rock and Roll Part II had it’s time. We need something more original which is what the Islanders have been doing a bad job at producing.
-
The “You Suck” argument again… my argument has nothing to do with being PC, caring about children, or any other sensitive issue. It’s annoys _me_. I’d rather be cheering the team’s accomplishment than listening to a bunch of children find a reason to degrade the opponent in a repetitive fashion. I wouldn’t even mind if there was one big “You Suck!” at the end of the song. Tying the repetitive, obnoxious “You Suck” to the goal song just hits a nerve in my head.
Plus, it got the goal song I happen to enjoy killed. More reason to hate it in retrospect.
-
My God it is exhausting being an Islander fan!Next nightmare issue please!
-
I know the flyers use it, but the end of “Aint talkin bout love” by Van Halen sounds amazing when a crowd gets into it. Plus, many people have heard the song before, so they know how it goes.
-
As for the “you suck” – yeah, it’s lame, but you can’t really control what people say in an arena. I don’t think the Islanders changing of the song was to avoid that chant.
By playing these songs that call for a “hey” is just awkward. I love R&R, and WISH they would bring it back since it was basically the moment we went to games for, but if they desire a change then they should change it completely and try something new. It’s simply not working now…and we gave it a year…
-
@116 exactly. We should be celebrating the fact that we scored not rubbing it in the face of the other team.
@113 The goalie chant is 100% all loudville.
-
2 words: brass bonanza
-
Select a song and stay with it….just PLEASE KEEP Quagmire! It’s unique.
-
Ole’ from The Bouncing Souls is such a great song! I didn’t even realize that the Devils used it. Maybe we should if they don’t want to.
-
Whoomp, there it is !
Whoomp, there it is ! -
absolutely!! loved hearing that…
-
What about a fan submitted song?? Or a contest of some kind, there are a lot of fans with Macs & the software to do it nowadays & it would be a great promotion.
Where can I send a submission?? -
Maybe you could get a poll going on the site for the next goal song. IMO, R&R II should not be a choice, but look what other people have suggested and put it to a vote. I’m not sure if you’re legally allowed, but maybe you could have clips of each song so people can make an informed decision. If people really want Glitter in the poll, put him in, but it’s really time for something new.
-
… needs more cowbell.
-
Adendum: 74, 103, you guys rock! I’ve wanted to know what that was for years. Yes, Equalizer rocks!
-
Oh, and if they WON’T give us R&R Part 2, how about Pantera- WALK? The chorus would be perfect as it says “RE- SPECT!!!”.
Fits nicely for this young, up and coming Isles team.
-
I think having an argument about a goal song is inherently stupid and ridiculous…usually. But in this case, it reminds of me of a friend who went to a college that changed their fight song midway through his 4 years there. At the first home game after they changed it, even though students were sent to something that seemed like a re-education camp where they explained when to clap, yell, raise your hands, etc., the students just stood there, not cheering or booing, just watching silently. And, to me, that’s what has happened here. That “hey!” thing is dumb, obviously. But its fun. And its ours. You go to hockey games to have fun, to yell and scream and lose your voice. And the goal is the high point of hockey (unless you’re one of those idiots that think Rechlicz making the team is the barometer on whether you keep your season tickets). So…just go back to the basics. And don’t claim moral high ground when we know damned well that its the “you suck!” thing that forced the change. Even though, for years, we have done the chicken dance thing that calls out a team that we aren’t even playing that night to tell them that they suck. If anything lowers our moral high ground (and collective IQ) as Islander fans, its chanting “Rangers Suck” when we’re not even playing them.
But that’s another topic for another day. In the interim, can we please go back to yelling “hey!” after goals? Please?
-
The current goal song is dreadful.
-
One thing I think we can all agree upon Nickelback sucks. Why not Alice in Chain’s Again or Soundgarden’s My Wave or even Zeppelin’s Hots on for Nowhere, either way Nickelback is a very poor excuse for a rock band.
-
Looks like it’s time for……..
===BRASS BONANZA===
…but seriously, we should have our own song, like the NYR does. Just don’t let it suck… that seems to be the issue.
-
They better bring back rock and roll part 2…you know how many fans I saw on Saturday shooting their fists out pretending that song was playing. A lot. and I was one of them
-
They absolutely need to bring back the old song & the chicken dance, however i feel the chicken dance should now be directed at Kate Murray!
Nothing wrong with a few “Kate Murray Sucks” chants!!
-
Not that big a deal. I think the players are big fans of Nickleback and kinda like the idea of having a new goal song every year. One month in this will not even be discussed as the fans will be familiar with the song.
-
There are so many things this organization does that are bush league, it’s hard to fathom. The Isles reek of a cheese across the board, nothing surprises me anymore.
-
damn!!!!!
-
Let’s just make it clear that there are at least 17 more problems in islander country than this…..let’s just play the lighthousesong after goals….I knowthe crowd will love that…..”were gonna celebrate…LONG ISLAND STYLE”
-
I just want them to score some goals. Hell, let the players choose a song to play after they score, like baseball players choosing their “at bat” songs…
-
Bring back the RR part 2 – remember how loud the building was when everyone chanted Hey during the playoff series vs. Toronto…it just works so much better than anything else the islanders have ever used.
-
there are i think 3 or soteams in this league that when they score, the players have there own goal song. there could be more but not sure. personaly i would love to have R&R 2 back or even ZOMBIE NATION
-
We need the goal song back…i hate the new one. CB, you are right on, most people look confused when the new song comes on. I go to 20-30 games a year and i still get confused. HEY!!!
-
forget i said Zombie nation even though its a great goal song. i am all about “Rock and Roll Part 2 you can never change that. And yes post 147 100% correct there was nothing louder then when the isles scored in those playoff games.
-
Chris – I could not agree with your post from last night more about the fact that I found myself in a complete quandary about what to do and when after the Islanders first goal on Saturday. Tamby Girl that sits behind seemed to be the only person in my entire section that knew when to say “Hey” (she probably studied). I missed R ‘n’ R Part 2, but I have to say I had got used to the mix of the new goal song that the team was using during mid-season last year (incidentally at this point fans were still chanting you suck, but it was working). It was only at the end of the season when they switched the mix again that I thought it was really terrible. That terribleness continued at the home opener on Saturday. I would not expect any changes this coming Monday. The first game towards the end of last season when they changed the mix was a day (kids) game as is this Monday.
-
to the people whining about you suck: you suck.
-
how about the isles play the organ when they score?
-
I am all for going back to rock and roll part 2. It is what I expect to hear after the goal horn goes off
-
I don’t see what the fuss is all about. Its not like we score that often anyway.
My vote is for R&R Pt 2.
-
Who started the “you suck” chants during the hey song? The loudville student section that was started in 06-07? The song was around for many years and you never heard “you suck.” Ipersonally dont like that part, but the hey song is a CLASSIC that should have never been replaced!.
-
i was a big fan of R.N.R Part 2 but the first song they had last year a lot of people didnt like i actually thought it wasnt to bad and i would def take that over the one we have now. What i wanted the islanders to use last year was Crowd Chant by Joe Satriani and would still not mind if they changed over to it however a lot of nhl teams now use it so its kinda like rock n roll part 2 where more then half the league had it at one point
-
As long as they’re trying different songs and remixes of whatever just try Heaven Can Wait by Iron Maiden, it’s got a real cool Whoa-ah-oh chant in the middle of it that’s simple, powerful and would be a cool goal song. Just my two cents here.
-
They can play Yankee Doodle Dandy, I don’t give a crap, just win a freakin cup already, better yet make the playoffs. I’ll even drop my standards, be a .500 club. Gees who cares about the song, back in the glory years there was no song, just cheers, who needs this crap.
-
The ‘You suck” attachment to Rock & Roll Part 2 is something that Boston fans would do. I do not want to be comparable to Boston fans!
When the Patriots won the super bowl in my freshman year in 2001-2, you know what they chanted at the UMass riots? “Yankees Suck”. That’s right, they’d rather demean other teams than celebrate their own team’s accomplishment. Pure stupidity. Let’s not resort to that!
-
I also think with the tons and tons of usuable songs out there it’s so lame to even want to use songs like R&R pt2, Satriani’s Crowd Chant or Zombie Nation. I mean how many teams use those? Anaheim and Philly had the right idea with Bro Hymn Tribute. I don’t know which team came up with it first but it’s awesome. Hell, you even have to give credit to the Rags in that regard. Time to bring in a new song that sticks.
-
One of the odd things i’ve read in this thread is the people who said “they didnt know what to do” when the Islanders scored on Saturday….well i’m here to help those poor lost souls.
i was there on Saturday and when the 3 goals were scored i did the following:
1. stood up
2. clapped and cheered (“yeah!” usually works in a pinch)
3.high fived strangers around meit worked fine for me and i didnt even notice what song was or wasnt playing.
and besdies isnt there enough contrivance these days at sporting events without everyone having to sing the correct parts in a song. just stand up,yell, scream go a little crazy..why do we even need a certain song? -
Botta, We’re NY sports fans…. We’re never satisfied!
-
The worst by far is Chicago’s song. You know, that super annoying song from those Heineken commercials. Ugh. I would hope to get shut-out if that was our goal song.
-
dont worry 163 we will be shut out many times this year
-
Too bad last month i filled out a survey the team sent me and i said to bring back R&R Pt2 as the goal song to make the game night experience better – too bad we will be left confused what to do for the future
-
We need to bring it back!!! Ga-Ry Glit-ter *clap* *clap* *clap* *clapclap*
-
I think I stood up and cheered and high fived my friends and people sitting around me. Now about the goal song…
-
They should have a contest for musicians to make a new goal song, I could see a hard rock type of remix, utilizing “Hey!” being awesome.
-
cb, i agree this post didnt work out like it should have. We may need some more rules on this one…how bout a “vote post” here on IPB with a one word one post limit either yes or no to the return of rock-n-roll part2…then let it run until the morning after our next home game, if the majority says yes then great! if the majority says no then start a new vote with a “one new goal song suggestion one post limit”. Then we can get to the bottom of this and you could truly help the majority of isles fans get the goal song they want.
-
Rock and Roll Part 2, or 1, whichever, is the way to go. The fans need to stop with the “you suck” chant, though. It’s not the words, it’s the fact that the pot is calling the kettle black. We were the worst team last year, and we’re screaming “you suck?” We just scored to cut into a 4 goal lead, and we chant “you suck?” The chicken dance is about rivalry, the same reason Potvin still sucks 20 years after he retired. I don’t care enough about Columbus to tell them they suck after a goal. Bring back the song, Dump the “you suck.” Let’s reserve the “you suck” for our bitter rivals.
-
Nothing says “lowlifes” quite like a bunch of idiots chanting “you suck!” after their own team scores a goal. Nevermind the timing of the “you suck”, the fact that its being chanted at all is disturbing enough. I’m glad the old goal song is gone and hope it never comes back, only because I never want to hear that ridiculous “you suck!” crap again. That chant makes all Isles’ fans look like street trash.
-
Bring back the old R&R II goal song, and please everyone stop with the “you suck” chants. Once it gets down to a couple of drunk idiots and kids, it will go away. These other lame attempts at a goal song are just that.
-
I believe that Nickleback should be convicted of piracy issues seeing how all of their songs are the same. They would have plenty of lawsuits against them for copying “Someday” over and over. Why can’t they just play the Chicken Dance regardless of their opponent? All Isles fans enjoy that song.
-
I moved to California in early ’08, and didn’t get back for any home games last season. I managed to get to the home opener, and I was vastly confused (and disappointed) immediately following our first (and each subsequent) goal. I hope they switch back to the classic “HEY” song, but at the very least, get rid of the awful, awful, awful new song.
-
Bring back! the siren, It’s classy, and it works. The Yankees do it every time the hit a home run, sounds excellent. Thats what the Islander’s need to do. Thanks Chris, Mark N/J
-
I’m one of those people who knows what he wants. I want Rock ‘n Roll Part 2 back. PERIOD!
-
Wow I forgot all about the genius “you suck chant.” I already commented on this but now I will change my view. I don’t think anybody cares about the actual words “you suck.” I mean, when I was 8 years old going to Islander Ranger games at the coliseum I heard more profanity in those 2 hours then I would all years. I think what bothers people about the you suck thing is that it is just retarded. Every time I heard it I would just shake my head in embarrassment and disgust at the people (high school kids) doing it. I miss the song, but to be honest, I would rather have no song then have to deal with the you suck garbage.
-
Bring back the “Hey” song !!!!
-
I’ve been to games in other cities and I must say that not only do the Isles play in the worst arena in the league, their music selection during the games is also the worst of any place I’ve seen a game. They need to get some new music, but I do like that they organ is still played. A lot of other cities with “state of the art” arenas don’t play any organ music during the games, which I think is a shame. At least some organ music should be a staple at any professional hockey game.
-
How about, “Movin’ Out” by Billy Joel, this would be appropriate with the Wang deadline ultimatum.
-
It’s bad enough that Nickelback is always on the radio, now u have to go to isles games and here em, i say we boo the song every time its played. Understood, we will seem to be booing a goal but to get rid of Nickelback, it might not be a bad idea. Bring back a traditional goal song. We need the Chicken Dance back too.
-
I really don’t get the you suck argument, seeing as the Islanders had no problems sending half naked , stripper wannabees into the aisles , gyrating between play, under the guise of Isaander dancers last year.
Also, whatever happened to just standing and cheering after a goal? Why does everything need to be organized?
-
#156,,the sad part about the You Suck chant was it is not even original…it was lifted from the Danbury Trashers ..without getting into detail the Hey You Suck worked in that environment, but it sounds dumb at an Islander game
-
The “hey” needs to return. Even my wife said at opening night, “this song is stupid” with great disappointment in her voice. Bring back the right goal song.
-
They took away THE RANGERS SUCK chicken dance song too!
When I go to games I don’t know what to expect, except disappointment.
Even when the Isles score now with their crappy goal songs!
HEY BRAINIACS!!! JUST USE A SONG WITHOUT THE FRIGGEN WORD “HEY!”
Satriani “Crowd Chant”
Pennywise “Bro-Hymn”IS KATE MURRAY OPERATING THE SOUND BOARD!?!

Preach on, brother. Seriously.
