WEIGHT, COMEAU, SCHREMP OUT
First goalie off at morning skate: Roloson

11:30 am, NVMC - There’s a reason why they practiced in those lines yesterday. Scott Gordon says it was a tough decision, but Weight only had 6 practices in camp and cannot rush his return from a groin strain. The coach went out of his way to say Comeau was not feeling well this week. Gordon says this is not a repeat of last year, when Comeau eventually was sent to Bridgeport. Writing a Tavares-centric pregame story for FanHouse that should be posted in about an hour.

I still say they should let KO sit this one out, give him a few more days and let him play the next game

  2. 2 dan from va beach

the only thing left now is………..
    LETS GO I(S) LAN DERS!
    Happy Opening Night To All,
Have a great day and a better night!!!!!!!!!

  3. 3 Gabe

Agreed on KO. Let him sit until next game. You just don’t rush head injuries. There’s no reason he needs to be out there tonight. It just seems that this team likes to put their star players’ health in jeopardy.

  4. 4 Kevin

Yea sit KO for his and the team’s best interest. We don’t play till Thursday again so this makes a ton of sense. Giving him an extra 5 days would be a smart move.

  5. 5 kevin27nyi

cmon’ guys. they wouldnt put out okposo, one of our top players, out there if he wasnt a-ok. theres no way they would put his health in jepoardy.

anyway, game should be exciting, cant wait!

  6. 6 Marc from Troy

Hey, I hope he’s ok, too, but maybe KO is playing tonight because the team doctors say he’s clear. I’m guessing they know better than anyone posting here whether another 4-5 days would make any kind of difference. And since he’s been practicing without restriction for the past several days, I’ll bet the answer is that there would be no difference and that he’s ok to go tonight.

Thanks, CB, for asking Gordon about Comeau. Feel a little better about that. And, while you addressed the forward scratches, can you confirm if it’s Hillen being scratched on D?

  7. 7 MattyB

Guys, Let the doctors decide whether to sit KO or not, We have no idea how he’s feeling. If he’s playing, then he obviously hasn’t been feeling the post concussion symptoms.

  8. 8 John Goscinski

I need to go to this game.

  9. 9 Mario

12:30 and walking out the door to head to the coliseum. I hate the drive from CT. but its worth it when we win tonight.
    GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. 10 Vlad from Brooklyn

If Blake is healthy - he must be in the lineup. If Isles consider him as a big part of the Rebuild he needs to play. What is the “not feeling well” means? Injury? Flu? Or Else? I would like to know.

  11. 11 Mike from Philly

Making the drive in from Princeton, NJ today! Leaving in an hour…see you there!!

    Lets Go Islanders!

  12. 12 Islander505

    Isles win tonight.

Pretty early in the season for a team to do a home/road back to back.
And Pen’s played a tester against the Rangers last night. (Gaborik is gonna be the FA signing of the year, LOVED what I saw outta Gilroy too, looks like a natural for a team that emphasizes rushing, pressing D-men).

Hangover to follow for the Pen’s tonight.

Just my opinion….from two time zones away.

  13. 13 Devon

Vlad, I’d bet it’s the flu. That thing is going around everywhere.

  14. 14 mike

KO is not jose reyes. Let him play.

  15. 15 isle5

Hockey’s back! Thank God baseball is over!

  16. 16 NYI Pole

  17. 17 dp

Looking forward to the game tonight, would love to see an Islanders win, Pitt should be tired from last night–may the hockey gods give the Islanders a night of glory.

  20. 20 Signit

  21. 21 Isle4Ever

I wanna see a Tambellini Hat trick!

  22. 22 NICK

Okposo is oviously fine, its been more than a week for him to sit out. and he is ready. the okposo moulsin and tavares line are guna kick butt!

  23. 23 Warren

Okay Islander fans the season is here.Remember the points count for real now. Let’s take it slow the team is going surprise us this year onto the chase for the “CUP”. Keep your chins up Islander fans.

  24. 24 Bob

Well it should be an interesting evening I predict 2 godard v rechlitz bouts and 1 Sutton big hit on Malkin. KO should be given the extra 5 days off, just like Weight.

  25. 25 Ed

I hope we wear the vintage jerseys tonight

  26. 26 Islesin2010

Hey, I’m a college student in upstate new york and all week my channel guide said the isles would be on msg+ tonight and now all of a sudden they are showing womens volleyball instead. Does anybody have any clue why either MSG or Time Warner is doing this??

  27. 27 Devon

Ed, we should. All weekend home games, right?

  28. 28 isles99

ok, im headaing to the game…i admire people’s optimism here but we all know the islanders will probably finish 13-15 so i wont be sad to see the isles lose…we’ll get a great pick again since we’re not a contender this year…that being said, i wanna see okposo, tavares, bailey, streit play well…they’re vital members of the core

  29. 29 Blizzard

I dont know why but when I look at the line up and see Jon Sim I suddenly get very deflated.

  30. 30 Marc from Troy

Re (24)… If you’re going to school anywhere near where I am upstate, it’s because the geniuses in the NHL offices continue to define our area as Buffalo Sabres territory - despite the fact that we’re significantly closer to not only the Isles, but the Rangers, Devils, Bruins, and even the Canadiens. Probably closer to the Flyers, for that matter. But, considering this is the league whose idea of quality broadcasting is putting games on VS, then it’s not too surprising.

My suggestion: Tell your parents you have $160 worth of additional books to buy, and then use it for Center Ice. For folks like us, who otherwise would have more than half of our team’s season blacked out - despite the fact that their home network is part of our basic cable - it’s worth every last dollar. Unfortunate we’ve got to go this way, but it’s probably your only solution.

(Note that Center Ice should be within their “free preview” portion of the schedule, for at least the first week of the season, so you should be able to catch tonight’s game, regardless.)

  31. 31 Jim from Babylon

I may be the only one, but I feel Sim is going to have a very good year. Reasons- an extra year removed from surgery and his last year of his contract. We’ll see…

  32. 32 nystrom23

I dunno about everyone else but im pretty siked about tonight…the building is gonna erupt when JT comes out…lets go isles!!!

  33. 33 big dog

    505pm train to hempstead $6.25
Bus from hempstead to coliseum $2.25
tickets for game (free thanks wfan)
Seeing JT in his first NHL game PRICELESS

    LETS GO ISLANDERS

  34. 34 Kevin

As long as it is not the same DR’s that
look after the Mets it should be OK.

  35. 35 joe fred

So Katie phoned Wang to stall the lighthouse some more….so it is just another agonozing day in ISLE country!!! !@##@!!!!!

  36. 36 Frank

I do not know if I should post here but I wanted this to he read/heard. I apologize if this is plagiarized as I did not perform any research though I have built this feeling from reading many articles:
Tonight, a young man will begin his journey to build pride and honor to an organization that unfortunately has lost its way over the last few years. I, and others like me, should realize that it will take time to realize this goal, but HOPE is definitely on the horizon. So tonight, let us not mention Lighthouse, let us not mention Kate Murray nor even Thomas Suozzi. Tonight, let us enjoy the colors of Islanders’ blue and orange and the men who bear them, let us radiate our pride and honor for this team. Let us delight in our past while embracing our future as HOPE is on the Horizon.

  37. 37 Islesin2010

Marc from Troy– Im in Ithaca, where Buffalo only blocks out Ranger games on msg, so I dont know why msg+ was changed. Also I have already looked into the Center Ice thing but my concern was that the games get blocked out regardless because it is a New York team in NY. I’ll investigate more, im hoping the game doesnt get blacked out tonight, I need to watch this game. Thanks

  38. 38 isles14

almost game time.can’t wait much longer.

  39. 39 FantasyIsles

Yeah, uh huh, this team is finishing higher than CO. this year… Matt Duchene looked great today (3rd. Star) - because they have GM/Owner willing to put some talent on the ice with the kid so he develops PROPERLY! Poor John Tavares; if the NHL headhunters don’t destroy him, Wang’s team-be-damned land grab just might. Bring back Spano!

  40. 40 Isles Fanatic

Makes me curious as to who will be sent down. The Isles still have 25 guys but their roster cannot be any bigger than 23. Once Weight gets cleared to play….things that make me go hmmm…
