ISLANDERS 6, ATLANTA 3
“Goal Explosion” Interactive Post-Game Plus/Minus

by Chris Botta on November 7th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Chris Botta on Twitter

9:35 pm - Scott Gordon started the game with these lines…and they finished, too.

Bergenheim – Nielsen – Okposo

Moulson – Tavares – Park

Tambellini – Bailey – Sim

Comeau – Thompson – Jackman

Sutton – Hillen

Gervais – Streit

Witt – Meyer

Roloson

*

Time for some interactive Post-Game Plus/Minus, or as the kids call it, PGPM.

Plus: Big step up in entertainment value from 24 hours ago. If this NHL thing doesn’t work out for Scott Gordon and John Anderson, I’d invest in a league where they coach every game.

Plus: When the Islanders skate and execute, they can make just about any team looking like the one playing back-to-backs.

Plus: Islanders out-shooting Atlanta 36-21 after two periods – a legitimate 36-21. Just ask Ondrej Pavalec, who didn’t know what didn’t hit him.

Plus: Courtesy of Kinger – the Islanders’ 21 shots in the first period were a season high. In their previous six games, they only managed single-digit shots in the first period.

Plus: The goal scoring hands of Andy Sutton.

Plus: More impressive on Sutton’s goal, the remarkable playmaking skills of John Tavares. That was the equivalent of a Larry Bird dish across the lane between three defenders. Gorgeous. Holy heck, the young man knows how to play hockey.

Plus: Sean Bergenheim couldn’t miss that one. His first of the year, earned the old-fashioned way.

Minus: Islanders PA announcer Roger Luce directed to say, “There’s a penalty on the ice.” Okay, thanks for the heads-up. I always miss the referee raising his arm and the player skating to the penalty box. (You know it’s bad when fans are emailing bloggers from their Blackberrys and iPhones during games).

Plus: Blake Comeau and Nate Thompson causing havoc on the 4-on-4 for Jack Hillen’s first of the year to make it 3-1. Comeau and Thompson with two-point games. Hey, who’s going to break it to Blake that he’s sitting for Hunter on Wednesday? (j/k)

Minus: Atlanta five-minute man Eric Boulton abusing Tavares to near-injury the shift after Boulton was rocked by Brendan Witt. When Tavares racks up points in the first two periods, we may see a lot more of this.

Plus: To Islanders scout Anders Kallur for finding a possible No. 2 center in Frans Nielsen in the third round in 2002.

Plus: Thrashers appearing unmotivated to stand before Dwayne Roloson on a third period power play with Andy Sutton lurking.

Minus: Before Pavel Kubina’s big mouth cost the Thrashers, big chunks of that third period brought pangs of nostalgia from the NYI days of October, 2009.

Plus: Joshua Bailey with the wicked wrister, capping a dream night for the boys in royal blue.

Plus: Congratulations to Steve Yzerman, Brian Leetch, Luc Robitaille, Brett Hull and Lou Lamoriello on their induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. Leetch was so superb on the ice and decent off it, even Islanders fans never seemed to work up a healthy hatred for the redhead. Congrats also to John Davidson for winning the broadcaster’s award and Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on receiving the Elmer Ferguson Award for journalism. Dave is one of a handful of veteran writers I’ve tried to learn from and he has been a good friend while I’ve been on both sides of the press box.

Minus: I’m convinced that if the Islanders score six goals a game, continue to tweak the edits and stick with it for, say, about 200 more home games, they really will have something with this goal song – now in its second season of bewildering the home crowd against their wishes.

Even: Can the 6-6-5 Islanders, unlike last season, survive November? They are on the road throughout the month, but the schedule and opposition are not overwhelming. If this team is any good, if they are going to be in the Eastern 7-8 conversation at the Olympic Break, they should be able to play close to .500 hockey for the rest of the month.

Your comments and Pluses and Minuses are encouraged. Thank you for the big support these last few weeks. Enjoy the 60-degree weather on Sunday.

two great passes by tavares tonite its good to see

  3. avatar James says:

Minus – CB forgetting the final score was 6-3 lol

j/k CB, but the score was 6-3 not 6-2 lol

anyway great game overall from the guys.

  4. avatar WM says:

    Isles win 6 – 3, CB.

    Put down the bottle (j/k)!

  5. avatar will s says:

Rolli is 5-1-3 and biron is 1-5-2. maybe its time to stop rotating them and make rolli the full time goalie

  6. avatar Frank nyc says:

Happy for Blake. I would like to see him stick. When Hunter comes back it is time to sit J. Sim down PLEASEEEE.
JT is a nastyyyy set up man. He has got great vision on the ice.
6 goals for the offensive juggernaut also known as the
    NY Islanders..

  7. avatar matt says:

will s i agree give rolli the keys to the castle we need need another 4 game win streak to get us past hanging around .500 and serious playoff contenders

  8. avatar admin says:

    Minus: oops…CB

  9. avatar Alan says:

id love to see matt martin play alongside john tavares, he can put the puck in the net and put the body on people

  10. avatar billy harris says:

every time i see the royal blue unis i keep looking for someone to be wearing the old bowling ball style helmet, a la denis potvin. maybe the isles’ equipment staff could dig one up for sutton to wear. then get moulson and some of the other kids to grow fu manchu moustaches and it’ll be like 1975 all over again…

  11. avatar MattyB says:

Good win against a team you need to beat if you’re gonna stick around for a while. Good to see 2 pt games from JT and Molsen Ice….Nd a nice Goal for Blake…Good for him

  12. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Well I was off by one goal on my prediction … and JT got 2 assists instead of 2 goals … but Bergy got the goal I predicted …. Oh … and did it not seem the Isles were in a shooting gallery. They moved the puck and didn’t hesitate to shoot.

I like when they put on that kinda show.

  13. avatar Brian in VA says:

Yeah 6-6-5 Next up Johnnie Walker Club Seats at Verizon on Veterans Day… I guess I will be calling in hungover on Thursday… Lets get two wins at Verizon…

  14. avatar Ice Girl Dad says:

Nice win!! like the line tweaking

  15. avatar Chris Mc says:

Im not saying I dont see what Jon Sim does on the ice, bc I do, but if this is the start of a Blake Comeau run like Tambellini did when he came back from exile, why would you not sit the 32 year old Sim when Hunter returns.

And I was the biggest anti-Nate Thompson guy on the East Coast before the season, but he has impressed me with his play. Hope this team keeps growing bc they are definitely fun to watch

  16. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

With Andy and Jack playing together and both scoring … do we dare say that the Isles have a deadly tandem at the point? LOL!

It was great to see 3 guys get their first goals tonight … Especially Comeau and Bergy. Hillen ya just knew was going to come.

Bogosian sure looks like the real deal… I really was hoping Snow would trade down to snag him in the ’08 draft… but in reality he didn’t have the assets to move up. We all know how that worked out.

What a contrast to last night … very entertaining … last night was the “warm milk treatment” tonight was “red bullesque”. Dose boyz got dem some wingz.

  17. avatar Sally Williams says:

plus- watching the game and no heartburn!!
plus-Josh Bailey coming along….patience everyone! Go Josh!
    plus- Andy Suttons hands…who knew!

  18. avatar Steve says:

For me, the biggest plus was Okposo. He was the best player on the ice tonight… His play opens a ton of opportunites for everyone else.

Ohhh, if Park was about 4 inches taller and had a set of hands… I love his speed.

I’d like to welcome our newest player to the team. Who ever the guy is that’s been wearing #25 for the past few weeks, I’d like to thank him for replacing Sutton.

CB, you’re right. It seems like the fans, myself included, don’t know how to react to the goal song. Are we supposed to yell, “hey” or not? I don’t get it… How can we get this fixed?

It’s always fun to watch a game live, especially when we win 6-3, but the whole experience factor really stinks… From the “Light it up”, to the announcments “There’s a penalty on the ice” and that awful attempt at a goal song, something stinks. Is this all Chris Dey’s fault?

  19. avatar Mike for Philly says:

What is with the PA announcer letting everyone know there is a penalty on the ice?

  20. avatar IslesinOside says:

    Plus: Great, entertaining Hockey!
Plus: The Isles win when they shoot the puck( a lot) and finish there checks.
    Plus: Sutton..Hillen
Minus: Penalty on the Ice??? Just because Chris Dey doesn’t understand a hockey game and needs someone to tell him whats happening….we don’t!
Minus: Chris Dey has failed miserably at providing an entertaining atmosphere and removed one that was once there!Cell Phone thing, goal song blows, etc…,etc…
Plus: We are in the playoffs…lol!
Minus: Had 2 tickets on my windshield when I got out of the game.(

  21. avatar rob76 says:

Plus – Andy Sutton for all aspects of his game. He has shown that when healthy he is very valuable – all season he has blocked shots, used the body and even has contributed a little bit offensively

Plus – a good crowd that saw an even better performance

Minus – Evander Kane looked like he could have used another season with the Vancouver Giants – dont want to see a Josh Bailey Situation with him being rushed as i believe he has incredible skill

  22. avatar TONYSAC says:

    I guess I’ll give this plus/minus a shot..been a while since ive posted…

Plus: JT and Moulson woke up again…JT is NASTY!!! Moulson is SNEAKY SNEAKY!!

Plus: Bergie, Comeau and Hillen getting their first of the seasons…Keep Comeau up give him a real opportunity , give him PP TIME instead of SIM, I cant stand seeing SIM infront of the net….

Plus: Andy Sutton is a beast with Gretzky hands..

Plus: Looked like their was a nice crowd tonight.

Plus: Really impressed with the play of Nielsen and the recent play of Bailey…We have 3 future top 3 centers!!!(Tavares, Nielsen, Baiely)

    Plus: Jaffe calling Howie stupid!!!!!

Minus: No initial reaction to Boulton crushing Tavares

Plus: Witt taking care of Boulton on the next shift.

Oddly, I am a fan of Jon Sim…Sim is a true pest and is very good at it…I just dont like seeing him on the PP or 2nd or 3rd line, taking away minutes from guys like Comeau/Shremp or other prospects in Bridgeport…I see him as a 4th line player..

    Lines as I see them:

    Okposo Tavares Moulson

    Weight Nielsen Bergy

    Comeau/Tamby Bailey Hunter

    Park Thompson Jackman/Sim

    Streit Gervais

    Sutton Hillen

    Witt Meyer

    Rollie
    Biron

Next 7 games on the road….My prediction
3-2-2….Lets Keep the WINS coming boys!!!

  23. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

    plus – 2 points

    plus – exciting game

plus – 1st goals of the season: Comeau, Bergy & Hillen.

plus – Bailey’s high slot wrist shot goal.

plus – JT’s two awesome assists.

minus – JT taking a pounding.

  24. avatar The New Isles GM says:

Below is a post I wrote after the Devils lost last night. Today’s win basically explains everything I was asking for out of the post below. The Islanders brought, speed, shots on net and most importantly, effort. Everyone had a helping hand in today’s impressive win. Regardless if they had Kovulchuck or not, they played like a team tonight. I hope they bring that game next time they play Yann Danis and the Devils.

I have to say, acouple of posts ago I wrote “As long as the Islanders are giving me effort night in and night out, I can’t feel frustrated when they lose”. Tonight and the last game vs. Buffalo was a perfect example of the exact opposite. You can say they were moving their leg’s but the only guy I see game in and game out moving his legs is Richard Park. He is a true example of a leader. He brings it every game. You can never question his effort. I’m not going to start picking apart each player and say all the Pro’s and Con’s. I just wish I knew what Garth Snow is thinking right now….I hope he has something up his sleeve. Either we make the playoffs with a team that can contend, or we finish in the bottom 3. That’s how I see it. You may agree to disagree but if your not going to sign those game breaking players(see Gaborik) then keep landing those 1,2,3 overall picks.

  25. avatar The New Isles GM says:

CB – Just curious on your thoughts Garth Snow approaching Kovulchuck this summer if he does not extend his contract with Atlanta. As far as I know, there is only so many teams that can afford a sniper like him. Most of them are at the bottom of the pile. It seems as if no matter where he goes, he’ll end up on a rebuilding team. Do you think it’s possible Garth will make Kovulchuk a part of the youth movement?

  26. avatar JJT91 says:

plus: Bergenheim – Nielsen – Okposo
plus: Bergie’s 6 SOG and 1 finally went in the net

  27. avatar orngfan says:

i liked six goals from six different guys tonight, good balance, i did NOT like richard park with moulson and tavares. not really sure why he’s being rewarded he’s a good 4th line player but lets not go crazy.

  28. Plus: Jean Potvin sitting three seats away from me. Good man, Good Islander.

Minus: Me calling him Denis. I believe it was his daughter that corrected me and I hope he did not hear my mistake. I was monumentally embarrased and did not try and speak to him for the the remainder of the game.

  29. avatar Staten Islander says:

plus, another convincing win at home
minus, no home games till the end of the month

  30. avatar doc says:

I was at the game… and thoroughly enjoyed.

Comeau better not be sitting for Hunter. In other words, it better be Sim sitting.

I’ve changed my mind on Nate Thompson. He can play on my teams 4th line any day. Decent skater, real good faceoff guy, good energy, hits a little (doesn’t fight) and very effective penalty killer.

    Good for him.

    DOC

  31. avatar Matt says:

nice game. win some games on the road before i will buy into this team playing games that mean something in march into april.

  32. avatar Islander says:

Thought Thompson should have had one of those three stars; two assists, drew the penalty that led to another goal; and had the highest percentage of face offs.

  33. avatar Steve M says:

    major plus: Tavares’ skills

  34. avatar Moulson26 says:

Good balance of goals tonight. I hope the contributions from Moulson tonight shut some people up about his value to this team. 1 goal, 1 assist, 6 shots on goal and several awesome passes in the zone which led to opportunities.

  35. avatar matt says:

    Plus : GOOD CROWD!!!

  36. avatar steve says:

so the coach says blake needs to bring the physical from the edge to the slot and goalmouth. didnt he say the same thing about tamby, and tamby finally started to bring it to the slot and goal mouth. thats why sim is getting so much burn.
i am not a sim guy, but i’d rather have a guy like sim, then a talented floater on the edges, like the former first rounder we sent to the oilers. moulson inthe slot. gets knocked down five times, and scores on the sixth.

  37. avatar streit02 says:

Minus – Kyle Okposo not finding the score sheet. Poor kid is snakebitten. He does everything right in all areas of the game. For some reason cant catch a break. Wouldve loved to see him finish off that between the legs move. He eventually will and when he does i hope he never looks back. Waiting for okposo to completely break out.

  38. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

Plus: JT was back on the ice!

  39. avatar Ray says:

PLUS: That there were more plusses than minuses tonight.

  40. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Plus – Moulson shoving Boulton down to the ice
Minus – having to watch the game after getting into an accident with a drunk driver

  41. avatar Matt (Gravy) Martin says:

Minus- JT Playing hurt al third period & clearly not skating up to par or wanting to take contact

Plus- Hillen & Meyer taking the body

Plus- Sutton acting like a real top 4 dfenseman this year

Minus- Gervais….enough said! Please enough of him>>> Snow call up Mcdonald please

Minus- Sim….Read above>>>Oh thank goodness Hunter is back on Wednesday (Gordon u better not sit Comeau)

Plus- Bailey shooting & showing some life the last 6 games

  42. avatar Joe says:

Plus – Bailey has a very good shot.

Minus – This goal song is horrible. Can they please go back to the old one.

  43. avatar isles316 says:

    plus: Moulson

    plus: a good size crowd

    plus: great team win

minus: maybe a nitpick but Roloson and Biron need to stop consistently giving up a softie a game. It cost us last night in Jersey and the first Atlanta goal had no business going in.

minus: Beating a dead horse but the goal song needs to go. it deflates the building.

  44. avatar Danbury Islanders Fan says:

    Plus: Another home win
Plus: JT created two great plays
Plus: Bergy scored (I was wrong about DP playing a game before he scored one)
    Plus: Blake made statement tonight
Minus: Our next 7 games are on the road. They are going have to figure out how to play their game on the road.

  45. avatar jonsson3 says:

If we lose the next game in OT….6-6-6

Why is Sim on the PP ??? Gordo should rotate the healthy scratches, as we can see Comeau played hard tonite and wants a spot. Give Jackman a rest, put Schremp in, Jackman is invisible lately. Motivate him by sitting him a game and maybe he’ll come back harder next time.

  46. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

Good to be scoring and winning!
    Let’s go ISLANDERS!

  47. avatar matt says:

this team is da hann and a first line winger away from being good

  48. avatar JKP on LI says:

Goal song kvetching is so 2008. Whether it sucks or not, if the fans get “deflated” after six goals, it’s their own fault, not the song’s. That said, I’m all for something better, but “you suck” isn’t a viable alternative.

  49. avatar Restore the Pride-n-Passion NYI Hockey says:

    Plus. We Won!
Minus. Need better protection for Taveras!
    Indifference. Gervais, lethargic play!

    P.S. Botta I Agree
    Road trip is important.
If we are any real threat,
to make a run at the playoffs?
    We shall see?
Lets Go Isles.. Lets Go Islanders!!

  50. avatar James says:

Yea it was tough seeing JT get hit hard tonight, but look at the rest of the league

It was like a morgue tonight lol, all teams are having guys go down and really; no enforcer would really stop hits like that. JT was just caught in a bad position. I am sure he will be fine with the 3 days we have off now

  51. avatar BillyBC says:

betting 100 on the isles to win the stanley cup gets you 10,000. Good investment in this economy?

  52. avatar JJ says:

You know what hasn’t been mentioned much on this board?

That Ryan O’Reilly, the current rookie points leader, was drafted 33rd overall this past summer.

Yes, we could have had him… instead we have an injured goaltender in Bridgeport :(

  53. avatar german islesfan says:

Plus: 6:3 i was wrong with 4:2 but i was right with Bergy’s first.
    Minus: nothing.
when we lost in OT or So than we are 6-6-6 the number of the beast..Iron Maiden ;-)

  54. avatar Adam says:

for people calling for rollie to be the permanent number 1, watch the games instead of looking at the wins and losses! Roloson was bailed out by the islander’s offense last night. He let up a horrible goal to let atlanta tie it, and i thought he overplayed the second goal and should have had it. Personally, i trust biron a lot more. If the islanders scored more goals for him, he would be getting more wins.

  55. avatar DAVE says:

im the biggest isles fan in the world but the real isles will show up for the next 7 away games, they wont even win 2 out of the 7

  56. avatar TimQ says:

Plus: JT’s vision and playmaking skill
Plus: KO’s power moves. The goals will come
    Plus: Any Sutton’s overall game
Plus: Comeau, Hillen, Bailey and Bergie on the score sheet
    Minus: Bruno’s brutal play
Minus: John Davidson and Hall of Fame in the same sentence. YEEECCCHHHH

  57. avatar isles71 says:

To the PA annoucer, this isn’t Atlanta. People on the Island KNOW hockey so your imput isn’t neccessary. I live in Atlanta and the idiot PA announcer here calls everything from icing to the fact a team is on the power play…it is soooo stupid. Meant to enlighten non-hockey fans but is embarassing!!! Besides if you at a Thrashers game you are probably from NY or Detroit or Chicago anyway and understand what is going on, so SHUT UP !!!!!!!!! Go ISLES 1940…..1994

  58. avatar John from ATL says:

Plus: Hey they won and are fun to watch.

Minus: Two of the 6 wins have come against teams without the best players in the line up (Rangers-Trashers).

    Plus: Kyle overall play.
Minus: Kyle over handling the puck instead of shooting.

Plus: Andy Sutton: Stay healthy Andy (he could bring back a high draft pick come Feb 2010).

Plus: Comeau taking advantage of his opportunity. We’ll see who sits when Hunter and Weight come back.

Good idea to rotate the healthy scratch. Show the players they need to play hard to stay in the line up.

The rest of the month should go a long way to show us what kind a team this is.

  59. avatar terry says:

    Plus: A great team effort

Minus:Jon Sim has no offensive ability

    Minus:Jon Sim still playing

That is all have to say

  60. avatar Hale says:

Minus…the bridgeport soundtigers…i have been going there since the begining and last night was the worst effort i think i have ever seen… to all those dreamers…Matt Martin is AT least one more year away from sniffing the NHL..his play has improved but he has a LONG way to go as well as all the other rookies there. their is not one player on that lineup right now that i would say deserves a call up

  61. avatar Blizzard says:

….maybe when Hunter returns, Sim will finally sit.

  62. avatar Hishutzi Skorz says:

    Dear Mr. Snow:

    Please extend Sutton NOW!
    They say history repeats itself…see:Poti.

  63. avatar Jason says:

I feel so bad for Radek.

  64. avatar beatlebailey says:

to all the hockey snobs who sniff at the announcer calling a penalty on the ice…GET OVER YOURSELVES…there are maybe 3K hardcore Isles fans at every game.. everyone else is casual fans.. kids and families etc….you complain like this is hockeytown or something. PLEASE.

  65. avatar Joe Cusumano says:

    Jeff Tambellini’s career stats…
    NHL Totals 156 17 24 41 -20 60 3 0 0 210 8.1
    enough said….

  66. avatar Matt says:

how the hell did we pass on Rich Peverley when he was on waivers last year?

  67. avatar michele says:

oh, I get it..we are educating people on hockey, by having the pa announcer, say, “there is a penalty on the ice.” I would think the mere presence of actually seeing the ref raise his arm, having said player go into a box, then having the penalty be annouced, would pretty much sum it up. Or how about when telling the crowd its (insert promo)pp! Then telling us to get excited. I’m surprised that the PA annoucer doesn’t say…there is a goal scored…hmmm, about that one as our goal song? good grief.

  68. avatar Matt says:

by the way, Ward on the Canes is out long term. Maybe Biron becomes good trade bait?

  69. avatar Tom says:

Minus for Lou Lamarillo into the hall of fame. His system of the trap otherwise known as BORING HOCKEY. How anyone is a Devils fan is beyond me my 7 year old said that the Devils are boring.

  70. avatar Nick says:

please take jon sim off the ice

  71. avatar jethro09 says:

CB, enough with the goal song complaints already. Its ridiculous. Who really cares what song they play so long as they have reason to play it and idiots can’t chant “you suck!” during it? Everyone needs to get over it. When you’re starting to complain about the goal song, then you’re searching for things to complain about.

  72. avatar jethro09 says:

I do agree though, the announcement by the PA guy when a penalty occurs is ridiculous. It needs to stop and stop now.

  73. Someone said it earlier but I also see Okposo as the best player every night. Hope he starts putting some home because he works his tail off and has so much skill.

Speaking of skill…Andy Sutton. Looks so natural as of late as if he’s always had these talents but needs to be healthy enough over a stretch of time to show it.
Love Jack Hillen…hope he keeps it up.
    Who’s our 7th D man now?

When we lost the last 2 people started back with the scratch
Nate Thompson stuff. I still notice his important play.
Sim and Jackman….I’m not sure. The agitation and hustle isn’t necessarily off setting their lack of production.

    More Roloson!

  74. avatar The New Isles GM says:

To number 68 – I think we should keep Biron and extend his contract. Roloson is going to retire an Islander and there is no definitive date when DiPietro will come back in top form. This will also give Koskinen a chance to develop in the AHL acouple of more years…

  75. avatar Justin Marques says:

Finally, Nielsen is getting the recognition he deserves. He is a phenomenal hockey player, and he can easily be a solid second line center in this league. Better than that, is he will be behind Tavares and Bailey, and he will lead an extremely formidable third line. He is great on both sides of the puck, he is very quick, he’s got great hands, and he is a good passer. It will be great to watch him continue maturing as an Islander. He has the ability to put up 60+ points if given the opportunity.

  76. avatar Justin Marques says:

74 – Although I do like Biron a lot, and I think the Isles tandem right now is very good, we still need to trade Biron when DiPietro is healthy. If we catch a few teams in a bidding war, we could be looking at a nice return, and something that will help to expedite the rebuild process. If we continue to play well, and we somehow get a first round for Biron, we could package our first and the first we acquire to move into the top end of the draft this year and acquire another great player. Biron’s nice, but nice won’t win us games or cups.

  77. avatar Eastonhockey says:

I doubt the isles resign sutton. They will be at cap minimum next year also most likely and that forces teams to lose there own free agents…ask pirate and expo and marlin fans. We already saw it was Jason Blake …poti…kozliv…isles won’t pay going market rate on players who have other teams bidding. Sure they will lock Tavares up to keep fans happy like the mets keep wright around…but everyone else better sign at discount if they want to stay islanders

  78. avatar blitz says:

Minus – What exactly has Don Waddell done with Atlanta to retain his position of GM?

Keenan crippled FL, Milbury crippled NYI, Barnett crippled PHO, Ferguson crippled TOR, how in the world does Waddell with one playoff appearance during his tenure still the GM of this team?

These other teams have moved on, but ATL?

Minus – Martinek on the IR for the season. Like NYI actually had depth to begin with, let alone the injury history of this player.

Plus – JT’s promising performance that indicates a well-rounded player, not just a scorer.

Depth at defense or lack of same may be the story of the rest of the season.

Someone please tell me why the Isles and their PC police had SUCH a problem with OUR goal song (i don’t CARE that some idiots chant you suck, i ignore them; that shouldn’t mean you censor a song)one that we’ve been playing FOR SO MANY YEARS. One that the Devils have no problem with it playing in their palace in Newark.

I’ve been going to games since 1988 and we never had a problem with OUR goal song. They tried to take it away once before and put in Blurs’ Song 2 and Zombie Nation as well. Neither WORKED. Just as this song by Nickelback doesn’t work. Do you know WHY they didn’t work? Because we LIKE to yell in unison “HEY” to THAT song after we score a goal. It IS a HOCKEY GOAL SONG. Always has been, always WILL BE. The FREAKIN’ DEVILS get it, but Chris Dey and the ones in charge of “entertainment” at our building apparently can’t grasp this.

    Pathetic.

I think the Islanders prefer an atmosphere where everyone just sits in their seats. I find it scary when i can here the players on the ice? They got rid of the goal song 4 fans 2 stand and cheer they got rid of fighting 4 fans 2 stand and cheer. So in all if we dont score 4-6 goals a gmae at home we leave the fans in their seats 4 50-55 min a game, way, way to long 4 me.
