ISLANDERS AHLer BOBBY HUGHES ARRESTED
Two charges of criminal sexual acts filed in Albany

3:20 pm - Islanders farmhand Bobby Hughes has been arrested on first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree criminal sexual act charges filed in Albany. The 21-year old Hughes, acquired by the Islanders from Carolina in August and playing infrequently for the Sound Tigers, was arrested after Bridgeport’s game on Wednesday. Hughes is being held on $100,000 bond. Sound Tigers president Howard Saffan, also a top executive with the Islanders, told the Connecticut Post, “It’s a personal issue. There are a lot of unknown entities. This occurred in Albany. We don’t have all the information, unfortunately.”

Really sad for him if this is true…although its not like his hockey career was exactly taking-off. There are very few crimes worse than this. May he get what he deserves.

oh boy i just looked up both charges and these are not to be taken lightly -
don’t want to blindly convict the kid before due course, but these are disturbing charges — maybe garth and co. should use that psyche profiling on trades in addition to the potential draft picks

Was this the Henniger trade? Isles wanted to get out of contract…..seems like they have. I don’t fell sorry for him….if he is guilty I feel sorry for the victim.

Before we cast judgement, lets remember past cases of alledge sexual assault that were later proved to be fraudulent.

but he’s the professional hockey player. don’t sport figures get away with stuff. this means nothing. (that is if he is actually guilty, innocent until proven guilty in a court of law…but this is America, were we fry people in the papers and ruin their lives)

I know nothing of this story, but the only comment I’m going to make is that anyone who has performed the act of rape, murder, or arson is completely unforgivable, no matter who it is.

Remember the Duke Lacrosse case and the recent Hofstra rape case? The media loves to sensationalize these situations. He is innocent until proven guilty. If he is indeed guilty, then he will surely face the music.

Guys lets give the kid some support here lets not convict him yet & also remember he is still part of Ny Islander family…

Also if his last name was De Haan or Tavares we all would be calling the girl a LIAR & all type of names trying to protect our players—so just because Bobby HUghes is not a household name should not enable us from showing him support untill FACTS COME OUT

As other posts have said, we will really know once the facts come out, but for what its worth I actually saw Bobby out a number of times and he was a very low key, respectful, cool guy. He did have a lot of promise and couldn’t really get it all together due to injuries and apparently his “mental make up”. I don’t even want to speculate on what he may have done but we have seen numerous cases in just the recent years where accusations have quickly proved to be fruitless and basically the media ruined peoples lives in the meantime. I’m not sticking up for anyone but I think we should at least wait to hear some more info before passing judgment.

WOW! Holy reaction, just about every comment has made me cringe. CB, you would have been better off closing the comment section on this story.
