Freddy Meyer and Bruno Gervais are both horrendous!!!!
-
dp may be good in so’s HOWEVER, they are also where he will be doing way more crazy movements with those GREAT hips of his, and with the rate the isles play in ot and so’s it would only be a matter of time b/f he f#$%’#-%p his hips again.
not trying to be negative either, just realistic.
wasn’t it during one of those WONDERFUL skills competitions where he screwed one of em’ up the first time! -
This was a great argument for keeping tambellini in the line-up
-
I’m not anti-tambellini or pro-tambellini but you can’t keep him in the lineup just incase you get in a shootout. that’s like saying biron should start every game just in case the game ends in a shootout
-
This is Tielanders hockey
-
I have to disagree Chris. How many points have the Isles lost this year because they lost the shootout? Too many.
Let’s be honest. This is a team of hardworking grinders outside of Tavares, Okposo and a couple others. Grinders don’t work out well in shootouts. That’s not saying anything negative about them. It’s just the truth.
-
terrible point. the only good that came form this is knowing that we can come back from a few goals down in the final period. but the panthers are a team we SHOULD beat but to their credit they looked good once they woke up. Also if/when Biron is moved, expect it to be for a d-man because as other posters have stated, Meyer and Bruno aren’t looking so hot.
-
Good one #6!!
-
tonight was a good point. while they blew the 2-0 lead, they also came back from 2 goals down when it looked hopeless. this team is getting better in front of our eyes folks, just give it some time.
-
I think this is a good point tonite. They came back from 2 down and lost it in the tiebreaker. O well. I will take it and move on to Boston.
LETS GO ISLANDERS
-
what’s the over/under for how many ties they get this year?
-
For all those who hate Gervais and Meyer on defense, Garth could have drafted Tyler Myers instead of Josh Bailey. He was still available when Garth chose Bailey. How good would a 6’7″ defensemen who can score look on our “D”?? Maybe that’s why Buffalo is where they are and we are where we are. Oh well. GO ISLES!!
-
I’ll take it…..for christ sakes we could have easliy ended up with a record like the Canes.
-
If mike bossy came out of retirement in September n only played in the shootout..what’s his shooting %? I bet 75%. let’s face it..the skills competition is very important. Dubie could win a shoot out. Why can’t roloson?
-
Regardless of what the records show…I think that Roloson should be the goalie traded away. He is absolutely horendous in the shootouts…Hopefully Snow can package Bruno with him. I’ll take a 3rd round pick for those two together. Honestly. Also, why sit Tamby if your not going to use Sim in the shootouts. Obviously that’s Tamby’s strongest point…and we are going into shootouts more often then not, so I don’t see the meaning behind Sim getting ice time. Thank god it’s his last year under contract.
-
1-4 in shootouts and 2-3 in overtimes. 3-7 in games decided after regulation.
-
whos better mcdonald or meyer? this is why i thought we should have made a claim on matt lashoff. a good defensive prospect who at the very least would have given us depth. oh well if tb calls him up maybe we can claim him on reentry waivers.
-
good point. Although we blew a lead (again) the fact that core of young islanders stepped up in the third and tied the game showed alot of guts. It proves to me we are headed in the right direction.
-
on the brightside..It’s a good point
On the downside, if this team wants to make the playoffs, they have to stop letting other teams get points or 2 points when they have 2 goal leads at any time of the game. It really is amazing that they blow 75% of all the leads they have.
Someone else said it, Gervais and Meyer have been brutal lately.
-
4 points in the first 3 road games of the trip. it’s like going 2-1. gotta sign for that anyday.
-
Enough is enough …this team should have 4 more points
-
@kevinfitz: You said, “How many points have the Isles lost this year because they lost the shootout? Too many.” While that’s true, I think the problem is not who is dressed and who isn’t for the shootout — think about all the leads the team has blown en route to a shootout. Way too many.
-
I’m very grateful that we’ve got JT on our squad. The kid’s 19 and has saved the team’s bacon on more than one occasion. For the first time since, oh, Dave Volek’s ’93 goal, the Hockey Gods smiled on the Islanders…well, that and Charlie Wang and KO for that matter. I for one am exceedingly grateful for Tavares’ presence on the Isles.
-
roloson has 5 of the 7 wins this year. i like both him and biron, but if biron were in net the whole time, we’d probably have 3 -4 wins total. id rather give up the win in a shootout over losing the game in regulation. I am overall happy with what the team has done this year so far. everyone is complaining saying we need to make the playoffs and yada yada. be glad we are not in last place like everyone everywhere had predicted.
-
rollercoaster game..2-0…2-4…4-4
plus: top first period.
minus: another weak second period.
plus: powerplay works when we need it.
minus: shootout record. -
I dunno. I watch quite a bit of hockey and the shoot-out for most teams can be a bit of a crap shoot no matter the *skill*. I think I would rather have Hunter before Bergy though. Just saying.
Been a great year so far and and the team competes in virtually every game…been a lot of fun! AND we still have IPB! Seriously, things could really be a lot worse.
Anyone else besides me going to the Bruins game?
(Also:Did anybody see how the Bruins lost last night?!? OUCH!)
Go Isles! -
I think the fact that we get all bent out of shape when the Isles lose (even in OT/SO)because our expectations for them to win games, shows that the team has improved a lot.
We jump all over certain players when they make mistakes, and others we let slide for various reasons. Bottom line is there is no super star veteran on this team to carry the young-uns … Weight’s a great leader, but not on the bench due to injury, and even he knows his role for the team is much different then past roles he’s played.
KO has taken the mantle and I’m enjoying seeing him, and other kids mature. That said there is a ways to go for the whole roster.
-
#1, I am feeling that we should have come out with the 2 points. II went to sleep feeling is was a loss.
We get into so many OT and SO games, but Gorton thinks its smart to bench Tambi for Sim. Tambi (aside from being our 3rd highest goal scorer, is money in the SO that we always wind up in. -
Sorry to say, but its like I watched a completely different game then you guys. It never should have gotten to a shootout. Since coach changed Tavares’ linemate again, this time with Park, I have been cringing every time they are on the ice. Even though Park is a very good 4th liner, since he has been on the ‘first’ line, they have had much fewer even strength scoring chances since he joined the line. They gave up at least two even strength penalties last night. The line was working great, and since Park joined, they have been terrible at puck possession. Most of the TOI, they are chasing the opponents around, and once they do get the puck, the other teams are recognizing that there isnt a strong player, and are sending two defenders after the puck. Its like when the opponents see Park with the puck, its an all out blitz to go get a turnover. I didnt understand this assignment to begin with, and hearing Jaffe brown nose about it makes it even worse. I do not believe that Tavares had an even strength shot on goal last night with his standard linemates on the ice.
All of Tavares’ points in the last two games were either on the PP, or with Hunter on the ice (woulnt Trent be perfect for that line?). They have a number of forwards that would be better. I thought with Comeau coming back, he would be ideal for this line. Does anyone else see how much offense Tavares can produce in the last two games on the PP, but at even strength, his ‘first’ line is not generating many scoring chances? If it was such a good line, then why is the first PP unit so different? The other 3 lines looked better the last couple of games (ironic since JT had 3 goals during that span). It seems his play on the PP is masking this issue. JT has also been looking awesome in hybrid lines (after a partial change, with either Okp or Hunter coming off the bench while he stays on the ice). JT’s line should dominate, or at least generate a little offense, and it has not in the last few games.
-
Can someone explain how the league tabulates attendance. I was watching the game last night and there was no one in Florida, yet todat’s box score lists 15,921 were at the game.
-
Probably more empty seats near the ice than rest of arena making it look worse on tv.
-
OK – REALITY CHECK
The Islanders have more points that about 16 teams in the NHL – they are in the 7th spot in the conference… thats on the right side of a fight for a playoff spot!!!!
How about we cut a team that was DEAD LAST some slack when they “don’t get the 2″ and be happy that our growing pains and learning to win get us 1 point!!!
Yes we need help on D – but we’re not the worst in the NHL – yes we can question the Shoot Out lineup – but lets not forget we’re talking about our team being good and not just who we’re going to draft! -
No lead is safe with Gordon’s system. I do think if you have a lead, you change it up. Either that or trade for 2 more defenders, I am not a big Gervais fan. At least Freddy will hit somebody out there.
-
Please don’t post all in Caps people don’t like it.
And “playing it safe” is exactly why you lose leads in any sport.
With a lot of inexperienced players on a team it takes a while for the players to realise that the best way to win is to continue exactly in the manner that got you the lead in the first place. -
Looking good !
-
The Isles have played in 10 OT games already this season. That’s 50 extra minutes. At this rate by the end of the season they will have played maybe 3-4 more games than everyone else. Gonna have to start finishing games off earlier or this will be one tired team come April.
-
This team all the “experts” said sucked and was destined to finish near or at the bottom ( they still might ) has 21 pts. in 20 games. This team has exciting youthful talent not seen in years. Most important, they have a definite plan and an obvious will to stick to it. Call me naive if you must, but reading some of these entries I can’t believe we’re commenting on the same team.
-
With a young team, it’s too be expected that there’ll be wild swings, even in the same game. I watched the Yotes a bit last year, and their swings were even more dramatic than the Isles this year.
But…my minus for the night: Is Richard Park really the best player on our roster that now he is not only on the first line, but double shifted all night? Really, it’s getting a bit out of control, and even comical, with Gordon’s fascination with Park.
-
four points in three road games, including a back to back( we have 19 of these this season) vs a rested panther team.
isles have 21 points so far, sitting in seventh place. they are currently a playoff team. enjoy the success.
say what you want, but on the hunter goal, bailey took a hit from a big defender ALONG THE GLASS, kept possession, used his vision to not only find the open man, but made a tape to tape for a hunter one timer. give him time. -
Shaw- We have someone that can score in the shootouts. Not only that, but the same player is 3rd on the team in goals and 5th in points. Apparently, that only gets you a seat in the press box instead of time on the ice.
-
Thank you 36 & 37. Nobody even expected us to be in this position this season. Tavares, Okposo, Moulsen and Hunter(3G in 5 games) have all been great for us. Tambellini seems to finally be coming around. If Bergie and Neilsen can pick it up we are in pretty good shape. This is without Weight for a while. If they make some changes on defense it would be huge. Gervais really has been awful. I would give Sim a rest and let Schremph play a few games.
-
I am very pleased with their play. i watch every game and they are actually meaningful this season.Sure they should have won last night outright but they came back in the third from a two goal deficit. How often have they done that in the past.Listen they are in the hunt and I think they will be all year. good enough for me considering how bad they have been in recent years
-
I am addicted to this site. Nice job cb
-
Great two points!!! We were dead in the water at 4-2. We fight back and get goals from our clutch guys! I would take 82 third column games any day especially on the road! This team has me believing and I haven’t believed since Nolan and Smyth!
-
21 points in 20 games. At this pace we will end up with 86 points by the end of the season. I know I would have signed up for that back in September.
Bottom line is that this team has a lot of heart but not enough talent to be a real playoff contender. I have no problem with that as long as there is a continued acquisition of talent. The foundation is being established, and now we just need to keep adding the right parts.
-
JT doesn’t get his goals the past two games if Park doesn’t start the play first. Park is a stopgap till Weight returns. Learn the game, people.
Sim deserves to play, in part because he plays a corner-digging/crease-crashing role that no one else on the Team plays. I agree play Tambellini, but sit Comeau.
-
You don’t put your three best players on the top line, every game. Sheesh. It’s a team sport.
-
Yea Swan I agree, I think it is a great idea to have Okposo on the 2nd line; it spreads out the talent of top guys and that 2nd line with Bergy and Neilsen has been very very noticeable since Okposo joined them.
This team is headed in the right direction
-
You also don’t see teams playing 4th liners on the first line. Put hunter there and keep ko on the second and you have a better attack. Park is not able to generate offense with jt and mm
-
#50 He isnt?
Im not sure but looking at the stats; since Park was put on the 1st line, JT has increased his points per game output.
Park doesn’t need to actually get assists to be effective; he battles along the boards, and wins pucks. You keep treating JT as just a goal scorer; when he has shown he is clearly more than that. He can be a set up guy as well
-
JT’s been getting a lot of points on the power play. Perhaps his offensive output would improve with more skilled players with him at even strength.
-
CB, I think that you think I am just being a jerk when I ask about Gordon. I have supported the team with my heart, soul and wallet for over 30 years. That doesn’t make me any more or less of a fan then anyone else here, but my point is I am not just some whining complainer…
During the live chat, I said “When does Gordon take responsibility for the meltdowns?” I apologize for the way it came out. I was not whining, I meant it as a question. I see these young guys playing their hearts out (most nights) only to continuously cough up leads. Yes OT is better then losing. Yes the 1 point is better then none. But isn’t not playing properly to hold a lead a coaching issue? I see glimmers of genius in “overspeed,” but I think we look like a team on the penalty kill whenever we do have a lead. We go into a defensive mode of continuously trying to just clear our own zone, and end up turning over the puck. I cringe during every lead as it seems to me that it is just a matter of time until our opponent beats our D, and or Goalie. I defer to you… If I am wrong, all I meant by my question was what do you think?
-
1) James #51 is correct. Park has helped the JT and the rest of the line. Have to look past the obvious (who scores the goal).
2) I thought about Hunter for the 1st line, too. Hunter has played great since his return. It is really easy to see what he brings to this Team that no one else really has (puck control along the boards, size, wicked shot).
But the JT line needs speed on the off-wing, imo. Especially if you keep Moulson and JT together (please do). They are not the fastest skaters. Park is a better fit. Fast enough to reach the puck in the offensive corners, fast enough to come back on defense when Moulson and JT are in the low slot and crease (where they usually are).
-
Made the mistake of leaving the TV on after the game and Hockey Night came on.
There was a segment “Top Rookies”
Can someone explain to me how the player leading roolies in goals (8), Power play goals (4) and points (18) is only ranked 4th out of 5???
I know the presenter is a virulent Islander hater but come on – thats plain stupid. -
When was the last time you saw jt mm and park generate sustained pressure at even strength? Jt is getting his points on the pp which park is not on.
-
With regards to *sitting* players…
Is it me or does Comeau seem to be getting pretty poised with the puck…especially during crucial times of the game?
Considering the propensity for injuries and length of season, I’m satisfied that they have the bodies for sure. If indeed Bridgeport produces viable call-ups in the future then it is waivers and/or trade time.
Go Isles! -
i think we should put comeau on the first line he works in the corners digs out pucks he is physical and will be a nice complement to jt/ moulson.
moulson jt comeau
bergenheim nielsen okposo
tambellini bailey hunter
thompson park jackmanscratch sim and schremp
gordon please try these lines for one game.
as far as the defense bring up mcdonald and scratch gervais or meyer for a game or 2
-
Let’s take a realitic perspective. We are better because of: JT, KO getting better, better (but inconsistent) goalie play, hillen (who everyone hated) and sutton forming a pretty good d pair, and different contributions nightly from others–moulson, hunter, JB, Franz, etc Clearly we need another 2 top 6 forwards and at least 2 more high level d… But, what we need is less than what we needed a year ago. We probably won’t make the playoffs this year, but with the underrated BP and junior level kids getting another year of development, and another relatively high draft pick, the next several years would seem promising!! Oh, and one last thing, Comeau is not and will never be a top 6 forward. Maybe, just maybe, a third or more likely fourth line guy.
-
Not a good point in my opinion. This is a game they should have won. And I’m sorry but I still think Tamby brings more to the line-up than Sim and since we are rebuilding and going with youth, he should play. Sim is a vet and will be ready to go in case of injuries. At this point in his career he can be a solid 4th line player if one of Park, Jackson, or Thompson get injured or if anything, rotate the 4th line and leave the other three lines intact.
-
Tambellini needs to play everyday. This is a rebuilding year. Just don’t understand why he sits and Thompson and, Sim play.
-
Uh, if you told me before the season started that on Nov 15, we’d be in 7th place in our conference – with Hunter n Weight out for several games (plus ya lost Martinek for the season), um, I’D TAKE IT.
And therefore: I TAKE THE POINT!
-
I think we miss Martinek more than anyone wants to admit.
-
I don’t blame Gordon’s system for the 2nd period meltdowns/blown leads. I do, however, wish I heard more from him about how to address the issue.
Also, many of these meltdowns have come on the road. As soon as something goes well for the opposing team, and their crowd gets going, the Isles cower. The Isles need to learn to stay steady and confident even when thousands of people are against them!

So is that a good point or a bad point?? I don’t know how to feel about this game!
We need to do something about the shootout. In today’s game you need people who are good in the shootout (meaning tambs needs to be in the lineup). Also, when DP comes back that will help because he is really good in the shootout. Rolo just isn’t good at it.
