DEVILS 2, ISLANDERS 1: No one will be offended if you choose not to re-live this yawner

UPDATED at 10:45 pm - The Islanders say there is no word yet on defenseman Radek Martinek, who appeared to suffer a lower-body injury on Friday night. Martinek will be evaluated on Saturday and the Islanders may have an announcement then.

Why are we always on the overflow channel. I live on Long Island and I think one quarter of the season is on the overflow (cant see the puck reception) channel. The reception on my LCD is worse than on a tube tv. Why cant cable pick one of its other hd channels to show the game. I called cablevision to complain. They told me and suggested that Islander fans should call and complain. They documented my complaint and said they discuss programming often. I suggest that all Islander fans call up cablevision.

I have not lived in NY in 2 years and i called and b*tched about it then. It’s why I don’t order center ice. No ISLES in HD ever. I can get the games on myp2p.eu or justin.tv for free and same quality..

Watching the Devils’ broadcast with Doc (who IMO is the worst TV announcer in the sport) is better than watching on a grainy overflow channel. Makes no sense.

  4. 4 Blizzard

…I share the frustration. For whatever reason Cabelvision does this. Cheaper to broadcast SD with the Islanders? You can not tell me that there are more Devils viewers than Islander viewers in total let alone the Demographic here in Long Island.

Sadly its where we see all Islanders games that are broadcast in HD. Fios need not apply…..drats.

  5. 5 Steven

Typical Devil boring ratings and attendance killing game. Denis looks like Marty B playing in this system.

  6. 6 Alan

Radek Martinek = Human battering ram

I live in NJ and had planned on going to the game but couldn’t find anyone to go with, (in hindsight) glad I didn’t waste my money.

Extremely disappointing effort. Neither team impressed. Can the NYI please start hitting the net more? At the very least force the goalie to make a save. Not much more to say.

jaques lemaire is the devil. he takes all of the fun out of watching hockey. i couldn’t keep my eyes open during this one. too bad okposo couldn’t put that one home at the end of the third. the softie goal by biron changed the game.

  9. 9 The New Isles GM

I have to say, acouple of posts ago I wrote “As long as the Islanders are giving me effort night in and night out, I can’t feel frustrated when they lose”. Tonight and the last game vs. Buffalo was a perfect example of the exact opposite. You can say they were moving their leg’s but the only guy I see game in and game out moving his legs is Richard Park. He is a true example of a leader. He brings it every game. You can never question his effort. I’m not going to start picking apart each player and say all the Pro’s and Con’s. I just wish I knew what Garth Snow is thinking right now….I hope he has something up his sleeve. Either we make the playoffs with a team that can contend, or we finish in the bottom 3. That’s how I see it. You may agree to disagree but if your not going to sign those game breaking players(see Gaborik) then keep landing those 1,2,3 overall picks.

Nothing has killed hockey more than the trap. The Devils having a new building is a waste with this bore fest system they play. The trap should be banned. Milbury was right when he ranted about the trap way back.

  11. 11 billy

poor biron plays two stellar games and comes up empty.

tavares’ third period was his best period so far. he finally is starting to use his body to go to the front of the net and should have had multiple points that period.

  12. 12 isles316

the building was dead tonight. its a waste of a new building. its in a terrible area and its not even that nice. its like a cavern. just my opinion

  13. 13 longisland-laraque

Streit is just plain bad. He gets beat on D all the time, oppoding bodies camp out in front of the net and no one moves the.

We’re missing some more physical players besides Whitt and Jackman. Bring on Laraque, the Habs aren’t even using him.

  14. 14 Rachel G

Bailey was really bad tonight. Stupid penalty, turnovers, soft play. He needs to sit out a game or two, or at the very least be put on the fourth line. Al Arbour would never put up with a lazy delay of game penalty like Bailey’s. He would teach the kids a lesson. Sim is a complete waste.

  15. 15 MileHighIsle

Bring up Martin, Haley & Morency and drop Jackman, Thompson & Sim. The Isles have been a boring product to watch for too long.

  16. 16 mike

Martinek got hurt again Can he play 20 games in a row without seriously hurting himself i like marty n all but its time to say goodbye

  17. 17 Eastonhockey

Back to earth come the icelanders…here we all thought for a minute the isles would contend for playoffs by having the lowest payroll in the sport.

  18. 18 Shoe

CB - You are in the media, how can anyone possibly defend the sleep-inducing snoozefest that is a devils game? They have a good team and the arena is 2/3 empty, and that is with a thousand or so islander fans filling in. What is the point of sports if there is no entertainment?

  19. 19 Geli

#9….I went to the game, it’s not about effort. This was the Devils of five years ago, back to haunt us. A soft goal, a PP goal, and they just locked down. I leaned over to my fiance with 5 minutes to go in the second and said this is your final, with a 50/50 shot at an empty net goal. I mad tonight not because we lost, but because I paid money to watch the NJ devils coached by Lacques Lemaire. I’m better than that, I wont forgive myself for quite a while

  20. 20 Islander

Thompson and Jackman play hard. Bailey is not sure of what he is doing, but tries, he does need a little time in the AHL, he needs to be fine tuned. Oposo is a beter player than Tavares. My opinion.

  21. 21 Justin

This is not a playoff team, don’t be taken in by a four-game winning streak. The Isles are very limited up front and have arguably the worst defense corps in the league. They have played a little better than I thought, however, and I am not totally disappointed with the season so far.

  22. 22 AM

Was at the game and thank gd i did not pay for my ticket because that was brutal to sit through even live. Between the trap and the Isles offense, you could have been put to sleep. Very nice building though and exactly what we need on LI. On another note, we clearly need to hit the net more as we are missing it on a good amount of point blank shots. Also don’t know why Park was out there in the last 1;30 unless it was for a faceoff win. There has to be was way to get around the trap. I”m tired of these 2-1 games that turn new and casual fans off on hockey.

  23. 23 Joe P.

The problem is the PP. The Isles are working real hard, and it’s showing out there, but we need to deliver on the PP, it looks awful out there. And Lemaire is a malignant tumor. He makes games unwatchable with his ‘coaches win games’ system. But if we at least score on our PPs we could have won this one.

  24. 24 Glen S

BORING VERY BORING game, yes I thought the trap was dead, well it reared it’s ugly head tonight.

  25. 25 jonsson3

Let me tell you what I think happe zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Is it over?

  26. 26 WM

I’ve been an NHL fan for 30 years and, though it’s only November, it’s been the most sleep-inducing season I’ve seen. I’m not just talking about the last two Isles games but all the games (I have the Center Ice package). We’re back to seeing a lot of low-entertaining 2-1 games. I hardly see more than 2 consecutive tape-to-tape passes. Rinks around the league are 1/2 empty. There are injuries galore to top players. Bottom line - I hope it’s just not me but I’m not as eager to watch/attend a game as I’ve been in previous years.

  27. 27 CJCB

was i the only one who avoided this game. I knew from the get gogo that this game would disappoint. Way to go Jackman, nice way to handle a middleweight!! Next time try fighting someone your own size, or are you afraid???? Dont balme it all on the Devils the Islanders are NOT that entertaining either!!! The play some good games but i always find myself drifting from their games. New NHL= BORING!!!!

  28. 28 Ed

I just wish Coach Gordon would look someone in the eye when he does interviews, or the camera, or just anywhere but space. It goes with the job coach, make yourself likeable.

  29. 29 Joe Cusumano

Totally stale offense. Tambellini back to his usual invisible self, and if anyone is surprised please look at his career numbers. Robbie Schremp should be put back in this lineup!!! How foolish is Scott Gordon to continue to waste time with forwards that are USELESS! This includes Jon Sim no matter what they are paying him!

  30. 30 rochfire

I am not trying to diminish Brodeur, but how much of his long term success over the years is attributed to the trap system, or variations of it. My kid is really getting excited about the sport but even he gave up last night with that snoozefest. By the way, the PP sucks and Ricky never would have let that point shot in.For all you haters, he can’t come back soon enough for me.

  31. 31 Mike Olivo

I don’t like seeing Jon Sim and Thompson either, but they aren’t useless. They play a roll, they skate hard. Weight had a nice third period. I think Go-Go has to stop having Okposo killing penalties because it kills his energy on even strength shifts. When I have to watch Sim on the wing next to Moulson and Tavares because Okposo just got done killing a penalty, it is a little frustrating. Finally, can’t blame Biron for giving up 2 goals, but the first one was a softy :)
