Worst loss of the season, by far. Bottom line, this team is 1 game over .500 with arguably one of the 5 worst defenses in the sport. Gervais and Meyer are horrible. Streit is a huge liability in the D zone. Witt is 5 yrs past is his prime. Hillen and McDonald are both young and Sutton is a decent 5 or 6 dman. Hopefully yhe likes of Dehaan, Hamonic, Ness, Donovan and Kessel can be a part of our core in the next couple of years
Streit is a lazy skater…reminds me of “Hamrlik the slow”. He just doesn’t skate. He took a penalty because he didnt move his feet….he doesn’t skate the puck in the o zone on th PP….what good is he then? PLUS: when the Isles learn how to clear the zone for f’s sake they will be a cut above. Theyv’ve lost at least 10 points this year because they dont know how to clear the zone..Goedon needs them to practice that and JUST that for many hours. They SUCK at clearing the zone and I’ve been saying it all year. SUCK at it. They CANNOT clear the ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They’re really bad at clearing the zone. Don’t know if I made myself clear or not. It’s been a season long problem.
That giveaway was inexcusable, but even more so was the terrible defensive effort. HOW do you leave a guy like Nolan all alone in front? Bad loss tonight, hopefully it doesn’t hurt them in the long run
that was a horrible loss, im still seathing. Comeau not clearing the puck cost us the game. Nolan always kills us no matter what team he is on. This just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth even if they get 2 pts tomorroew night. bad bad bad
Disaster..tough to watch a boring game like that to have them blow it right at the end..never mind the standings.
these guy’s stink when Biron plays.
Gotta agree with #7, the team seems to give a much better effort with Rolo back there, not sure why. I said after the Bruins game that we shouldn’t get down on this team if they lose a game and I am going to stick with my statement. Sure, tonight was a tough one to take. The team didn’t have the jump in their legs I would have liked to see after 3 days without a game, and I believe 2 off days. That being said, they are still a young team that is going to lose games.
Let’s not lose our heads here folks, there is still plenty of hockey to be played. Lets get a win tomorrow and worry about Toronto on Monday.
ah, the drama. bad game tonite, they had chances man up, and didnt get it done. i like that the fans expect wins during road games. poor result, it happens over an 80+ game season. seemed to me the coach was seething post game. interesting to see what others post, and review the live game chat. put down the sharp knives, these things happen. we beat the red wings last season, when we had no business doing so. tonite, we gave away points.
The record was getting way out of balance(8-6-7). A win or OT loss would have put it REALLY out of wack. This way its more balanced.
Does Comeau sit for Tambellini now; WEAK clearing attempt… And yeah, Streit was skating around center ice with a half minute left like he was taking a pre-game warm-up stroll; lazy penalty he took too… Seamed like the players had too much time off to read about how good they are all of a sudden… If they don’t bring their A Game every night they’ll beat nobody…
1 game over .500 my ass…8 wins 14 losses is the bottom line
I’ve said it before, glad to see CB isn’nt arguing anymore, Stevie T. s*cked, the son isn’t EVEN the second coming, so he must go.
I thought we were rebuilding?
We are gonna have games like these, so there’s no reason to complain. I felt Minnesota was one step ahead of us tonight, and that was the ONLY reason why we didn’t win this game.
Look, I’m not sure we are a playoff team. This team is still learning and it’s gonna take a while for us to learn how to win these types of game.
These types of games bring teams closer together and I’m sure we will play a lot better tomorrow night.
April 10, 1993… that Owen Nolan goal took me right back to April 10, 1993. I was sitting with my back plastered to the wall in section 329, Sylvain Turgeon scored in the final minute to give the Ottawa Senators their first modern-era road victory. Very deflating, just like this goal was.
Gotta get back on track against St. Louis. My fear is that this could be a “wheels fall off” loss. November 3, 2000 was a wheels fall off loss against Tampa Bay. The sky isn’t falling, but this is a game that should have been won.
I think it’s time to cut ties with Schremp, and either play Tambelinni or trade him for a mid round pick. A 3rd, 4th, or 5th would be better than what he’s playing now. He aint old, but he’s in his mid 20’s. The corner should have been turned.
Ye I wouldnt get to down on this one the chances to take the game were on the powerplay. The boys just couldn’t get it done. There failure on the pp led to strong offensive preasure by minnesota. The deffense did look out of place and streit did look horrible out there. The most important thing is to see how this team bounces back tommorow, which we’ve seen them do this year which wasn’t the case last year. Let them just forget this one and focus on st louis
The islanders werent able to break the morale early which allowed minnesota to gain confidence through out the game. sloppy play by the islanders allowed this and resulted in the loss. this game should of been had, but what are you gunna do.
if this team doesn’t come out tonight like there life depends on this game, i’m going to be steamed.
Minnesota vs Islanders is always a win for the Wild. It looks we can’t win against them
It was a evidence we have a lot to learn and are not a Play-off contender.
Credit to the Wild. They had a bunch of their best out but didn’t fold theiir tent. Stayed in it and I thought had the better scoring chances. Isles looked uncommitted. KO had some good chances but he never took it down low. He was on the perimeter all night. We needed that 3rd goal to put the Wild away and steal a game that we weren’t really hungry for.
i still like comeau but that puck has to be cleared with a minute left. i have to say BRUNO absolutely s*cks. he cant shot the puck for the life of him and he makes horrible break out passes.
Comeau’s unwillingness to take the hit to make the play was a killer. Wingers are taught to eat a puck like that rather than hand it to the point they should be covering. Meyer is knocked off his pins on every shift and he had another horrible game. On a positive note, beside the top line always being a threat, Jack Hillen is really coming into his own. He makes great decisions with the puck, joins the rush and is solid in his own end. He is on his way to being a gem.
Bench Comeau.
Freddy Meyer played terrible.
Confidence is up…but they played too “cute” last night.
Get the win tonite!
Are the boo-birds back now? Sim should have sat darn it, never mind that G & A!! Just kidding, wanted to point some fun at a few people.
I feel like Martin Biron is the Mike Mussina of the Islanders. Mussina pitched some great games for the Yankees but lost a number of them and almost never became a 20 game winner (except for the last game of his last season) because the offense almost always seemed to vanish when he pitched. Same thing with Biron…6 power plays, no goals…this could and should have been an Isles win based on that statistic.
A few postive observations — Josh Bailey +2. Blake Comeau with 4 SOG. Jack Hillen played more time than even Streit. Only one player with less than 10 minutes of gametime.
Time to move on to the blues game — go Isles!! ( ‘ :
This is one of the Isles few bonafide losses. They’ll learn from it.
I’m so glad I turned the game off during the 2nd period intermission!
You people are insane. Get off the ledge. If you watched the game, you’d know that we dominated the play, had many great scoring chances that we just missed, including solid play on the power play w/ one post and several near-misses. I’m annoyed w/ the result, but hell…can we calm down? We’re now 2-1-2 on the road trip, and of the 3 losses, we’ve been leading in all of them. If you watch closely, you see how much better this team is from last year. They look like a team that belongs in the league.
I don’t think this game makes or breaks the season. I wish we could have had a better result, but the fact that we didn’t isn’t a death knell for anyone. Just win tonight, and you’ll all turn around quick.
We can’t have our cake and eat it too - if we’re talking playoffs, we can’t say that we’re rebuilding and we’re expected to lose or vice versa. Yet rebuilding or not, it’s perfectly valid to get angry at how this game ended.
That being said, young guys will make mistakes. Bailey, Tamby and Schremp have all sat so far for various stretches, it’s time for Comeau to take a 1 game sabbatical
Where was Streit going on that play….puck was still in the zone…isn’t he a defenseman?
Listen, they obviously blew getting at least a point last night. Comeau couldn’t clear and Gervais started leaving the zone before we had strong possession while Streit forgot about Nolan. Bottom line is the team is going to have to learn how to come together after bad goals and losses. If they want to make the playoffs this year and compete, they have to learn how to handle a regulation loss. Come together as a team and win the next game. That’s how you get through a 7 game series. Let’s be real, even when Detroit and Pittsburgh won their cups, they still lost games they maybe shouldn’t have…right? Let’s see how Gordon get’s them to respond tonight. I’m sure they’ll come out skating hard and create turnovers and pop a few like they’ve been doing. Have faith fellaz, they are much better then last year.
Reality Check: We won a few and that raises expectations but we are still a year and a half and at least 3 defensmen away from really being good. The uptempo game, leaves the Isles tired at the end. Its the reason we collapse in the third. Striet plays alot of minutes and the bench gets shorter at the end of the game. Remember we started winning when we started rolling 4 lines, spreading minutes a little more. I think Witt’s ‘personal reason’ is Gordon doesn’t like him.
Minnesota’s style pressured the power play and made us ineffective. Tavares is good but needs 20 pounds and a year on the tredmill. I still like where we are in the plan.
Well, nobody’s perfect. I guess the most disappointing thing I noticed that hasn’t already been discussed is that as a whole, they didn’t have any urgency to get the loose pucks. When they play with determination they get those and make chances for themselves but not so much last night.
I also noticed how very very pale Streit was - did anyone else? It made me wonder how many are playing while sick. Not making an excuse for Streit or anyone else but I guess it COULD have had something to do with why some weren’t playing the body as much and skating as hard. Huge difference in hits.
We’ll see how tonight goes and I am reminding myself that they are so much better than I thought they would be at this point. Credit to Gordon and the players for that. Go Islanders.!
Every single time this team fails to clear our zone we get burned for it. We’ve been doing a much better job of that during the recent success. Tonight was a bad loss on a bad play. Lets try to calm down with the rants on the defense. It happens to even the best teams at times. Lets see how they respond tonight rather than picking apart every D-man on the team. It’s really getting old with the extreme negativity on the whole team everytime someone makes a bad play.
……Sim still sucks.
yes the bar has been set very high, thats a good thing . biron lets some of the softest goals in i have ever seen. i probably could have stopped at least 1 of those in my mens leage days . Comeau needs to sit a few games
What kills me is this schedule. Off for four days, then three games in four days, wonder how the players feel about it?
If it weren’t for one stupid play for one player, we are still praising this team. Now apparently the world is gonna end. Tough loss but those happen during the season. I still feel good about this team.
What a dissapointing loss!!They should have beat the Wild. Comeau STINKS!! Can’t score, doesn’t hit and can’t clear the zone. He’s nothing more than a bad 4th line forward who should NOT be on the ice in the last minute of the game. Please play Tamby. At least he can skate, might score a goal or help us in the shootout. What does Comeau do?? My lines would be:
MM-JT-Park
Tamby-Franz-Hunter
Bergy-JB-OK
Jackman-Nate-Sim
I know this team still has a loooong way to go to become a good NHL team but they should have won last night. NO EXCUSES. I’m VERY DISSAPOINTED!! Will it ever end????? BAD LOSS!!!
Ok forget about the obvious mistakes; the Power Play unit not keeping the puck in the zone; they spend the entire 2 minutes chasing the puck or giving it away. They are also responsible for losing the game too many opportunities just given away.
Real tough loss tonight. From the outset it didn’t look to promising to me of the Islanders winning the game. I really didn’t see much of an Offensive presence. Once they were up 2-1 it it looked like the team was sort of getting lucky with the way things were going but in no way were they taking advantage of their Power Play opportunities and what the Wild were actually giving them. To me, it looked like the 2 teams were pretty evenly matched which doesn’t say much what with all of the injuries to the Wild. Owen Nolan looked great as did Mikko Koivu. Clutterbuck was a nonfactor.
J.T., as much of a great Hockey player he is, just doesn’t look interested at times. Okposo had his chances but he appeared to be clenching that stick a little too much at times. Probably wanting to do too much in front of friends and family.
I feel bad for Blake Comeau. He essentially handed that game to Owen Nolan and the Wild and he might be in for a few off days with the way Gordon might handle that giveaway.
Gervais is disappointing and I like what I see out of Macdonald. Maybe let’s try playing Witter in for Gervais for tonight?
Definitely not their best game tonight.
Sim, Bailey & Hunter looked good too!
This game is won if they could put together a reasonable power play. Comeau’s play was inexcusable but they shouldn’t have been tied at that point anyway. This team relies on effort and some good luck. Both were short last night. Forget about it and beat John F*#$ing Davidson’s Blues.
The team took way too many penalties last night and it cost them any sustained positive momentum they tried to build. I agree with all the Comeau comments … what happened to this guy? He used to have a nasty streak in him where he would hit and be willing to take a hit to move the puck. But he seems like a totally different player for some reason. If Gordon sits him again he may never get back on the ice in an Islander uniform.
The Witt thing mentioned earlier intrigues me as well and I wonder if there could be any truth to it. If so, it’s the Guerin situation all over again.
I expect losses like last night from this team as they grow and learn. I don’t expect the poor overall performance throughout the game - lazy penalties, no effort to get to the loose pucks, practically no checking. Willing to throw this one out the window and see how they respond tonight.
Comeau looked like he was afraid of getting hit right before coughing up the puck at the end.
I hate when people use the excuse of rebuilding for a loss. That is horseshi*t. The Isles are the better team, it was a game they should have won and could have if it weren’t for a few brain farts.
