Check out the Caps and the Pens. They built their teams through the draft and THEN added FA's. We need to do the same. I actually met George McPhee (Caps GM) and he told me that Garth is following the Caps plan, and that he is on the right track. The playoffs this year mean nothing. Building a quality team with depth for the long haul is the smart way to go in this era of salary cap.

Joey,
I totally agree that the Sound Tigers are low on high quality prospects but if you think that we dont have talent in the system what is Snow going to use as trade bait? The Islanders could get a cup building prudently or they could do it by tanking and getting stars, Penguins-style. Despite the spin they put out there I think they will probably do the later, after all it seems to be the best way to make money judging by all the Penguins jerseys that I saw on Friday.

Niklas Wallin from Carolina looks like a good fit and would probably only cost a pick. They need another D man bad...if Neilsen is out for awhile, I guess they will use Schremp first, then at the end of next week Weight should be back.

I have a hard time believing snow is allowed to add payroll when he wasn't allowed to sign tanguay...don't try telling me snow thought Blake comeu was a better player n wanted to leave playing time for Blake. Blake is a 5th liner. Allways was.

I dont understand everyone that says "stay the course we will be fine". No trades, no FA signings. WTF?? Do you see whats in Bridgeport? If we had anyone of any significance, dont you think they would be here? Taveras fell in our laps, we wont know about Dehaan for 3+ years, and we drafted 2 goalies in the second round last year. Where are the 2nd 3rd rounders from the last 4 years? We NEED to make trades and signings. With free agency and salary caps, its not automatic that the Islanders will be very good in 2011, 2012. Atlanta is much better, and has better prospects, so does Philly, Tampa, Columbus, L.A - do you see where Im going with this? In order to get better, we MUST make trades for quality players, especially on D. We have quantity in the system, lets get some QUALITY!!!

Maybe we'll see Trevor Smith or JJ called up for a few games. Hope they are developing! Looks like we'll need them.

" I look back at the early 2000’s team and the defense those team had. KJ, Adrian Aucoin, Roman Hamrlik, etc."

it's no coincidence that the best the team has been in 16 years is when they had that really solid backline. the game has changed, but not THAT much. this gets old, but for me the g.m.'s priority must be a stable of good d-men, both bangers and puckmovers. if he can get one of each this year, now and/or by deadline time, he will have done a damn good job and will move this team a big step forward. the extent to which DP progresses is obviously key. if he can be stable and solid, it will free up another valuable chip for snow to play, which is how he planned it.

Well I would be willing to bet money that Andrew MacDonald will be up for the game on Thursday and that Comeau or Schremp will be the forward added with some line juggling. It isn't the most bold prediction but I would hate for Snow to hit the panic button and make a drastic move for someone on D that would deter the original rebuilding plan. I am content to let this team play out the season and learn to win AND lose and grow from it. It will only make them better and come next summer can start looking at adding pieces to make this team competitive with hopes of them advancing deep into the playoffs in 2010-2011.

I really hope its ONLY 2-4 weeks, injuries like this have a habit of lingering. Any word on Neilson?

The thing that frustrates me is the fact that our team doesn't go out banging bodies every single shift. Notice when they are playing physical, finishing checks, ala Trent Hunter, they seem to control the play, creating chances off of turnovers, caused by the hits. Gordo should start benchinh guys who don't finish their checks.
