FLYERS 6, ISLANDERS 2
Discuss the painful loss with Kevin Schultz
Botta/Schultz on FanHouse: Silence in the Trade Market
written by Kevin Schultz
FINAL (PHI 6, NYI 2): On Versus, Andy Brickley said the Islanders played “OK as a team” tonight. He gets points for being polite despite the rather large imbellishment…Midway through the period Hartnell crashes Biron and none other than John Tavares is the first one in to stand up for his netminder. That says volumes about the kid and the Islanders lack of a true enforcer. We can safely say at least one Islander came to play tonght… The refs are getting an ear full from the home crowd tonight but I’d say they’ve been just at the very least… I think, somehow, I found a teeny tiny silver lining. Brendan Witt: Even, 17 minutes of ice time. Not even an SUV can stop Witter!
I’d love to write more but there isn’t much to say. The Islanders had not played since Saturday and faced a team that was 2-8 in their last ten and played Monday night. There’s no excuse for the lack of effort. Where do we go from here? I’m going to try and forget about this as fast as possible. Thanks again to CB for having me! I’m sure I’ll see you all again soon. Hopefully tomorrow there will be a hockey game for all of those attending Point Blank Night at SOCIAL ($1 drinks and free raffles! It’s almost like they’re paying you to go!).
2nd intermission (PHI 5, NYI 2): Flyers get a goal wiped out on a high stick at the outset of the period. Refs make the easy, correct call… Jeff Carter adds two in the period and Claude Giroux gets one, all three from down low. Defense doesn’t attempt to get a body on Carter in either instance (although first was on PP)… Islanders don’t get out of the zone for what seems like the first half of the period… Remember when, before this road trip, we could say that the Islanders had been in almost every game? They haven’t shown up for three of the last four… Tavares adds two slam dunks on the power play thanks to the undisciplined Flyers who took five penalties in the second half of the period. After the first goal, he gets elbowed in the back of the head by the King of Elbows, Chris Pronger. JT appears to lose a tooth. He now looks the part of a rough and tumble NHLer… I don’t believe Jackman has been back.
1st intermission (PHI 2, NYI 0): Mike Richards scores twice; first a deflection on the man advantage and the second a shorthanded breakaway. Effort level is pretty low for the Isles and it is showing in the shot totals and the poor excuse for a power play. They’re getting out shot 15-5… Tim Jackman headed to the lockerroom at the beginning of the period, my guess is that it’s equipment related… Biron’s looked OK so far but is letting up some big rebounds. Can’t really blame him on the goals. Got hung out to dry on the second goal… Oh and there’s no excuse for Scott Hartnell beating Gervais down the wing like that.
The Islanders are in Philadelphia for the fourth of a five game road trip (1-2 so far). If you’re a DirecTV customer, you’re out of luck tonight as the game is on Versus and the Comcast owned channel is still fighting with the satellite provider over money. What a mess and, as always, the fans are caught in the middle. If you’re John Stevens, you’re watching from home – unless he has DirecTV – as the Flyers fired the former coach last Friday and replaced him with an old friend of ours.
Thanks to CB for once again letting me take over his site for the night. I’ll be checking in after each period to discuss the action with you and will be around in the comments or you can tweet me @bmr_blog. If there are any changes of note, I’ll update them here. For now, lineup is unchanged. Biron is in net. Maybe the Isles can score a couple for him (or is that asking too much?). Enjoy the game!

Please someone help me ..i have Directv & i can not watch..
I need a link for the game please
-
Trade Biron to philly for a young decent player or good prospect. They need him now that Emery is hurt.
-
atdhe.net is usually good matt
-
Welcome Kevin, Go Isles
-
i got that site on but sadly no game.
-
Ok good site..The game is on now , TY
-
hooray the game on..thanks islesin2010
-
MacDonald wearing that 47 jersey does nothing but give me nightmares of MAB.
-
BS.. Spend the money for Center Ice on Directv and I still can’t watch the game…
-
Dude, thanks so much for that site! I love it. So pumped I’m able to watch the game. But I think I’ll leave Kinger’s radio broadcast on in the background for a while (he’s only about 3-4 seconds ahead of the video feed).
-
Hey, maybe the Flyers will take Biron back???? Emery is now out for 6 weeks!
-
To #3: I dont think the Flyers have anything that entice the Isles, as they used up pix/prospects in the Pronger trade.
Any word on how Witt is doing?
-
#10 Lenny – I have Center Ice with Time Warner but the game is not broadcast on Center Ice at all because its on VS (which I do get with TWC but apparently anyone with DTV does not). Ridiculous how in today’s day and age, the cable companies can’t all just get along and satisfy their customers.
-
Hmm strange… now the radio cast is about 10-15 seconds BEHIND the video feed. Oh well. (sorry for the quick posts, just wanted to update those who may be looking to listen/watch)
-
This Isles need to come from behind or else they will have NO confidence going forward. This game is HUGE tonight, flyers are struggggling.
-
Philly going with their less physical lineup against the Isles? Go figure, ill pass on this one.
-
Can we get KO off the point and put him downlow
-
Man, they look really slow tonight.
-
why are we letting this team dominate us?
-
isles, sure stink tonight… tavares looks sooo weak out there…you guys are gonna feel some stupid when Matt Duchene wins the calder…lol
-
I can not understand why they dont start Rolo against the better team on these 2 nights. Rolo against Philly, Biron (who sucks for us) against Toronto. Anytime a player has a chance to score on Biron they do. Its very frustrating.
-
This is ugly…..really ugly.
-
The Isles look like they are skating in slow motion. No energy in their game. Maybe they will warm up in the second.
-
Biron’s gotta go.
-
The Isles look like a spent team. For tomorrow night, dress both Comeau and Schremp. The one thing that I have to blame Snow for is how pathetic our defense is. Meyer, Witt and Gervais would not in the top 6 on 80% of the teams in the league. And what the hell is wrong with our PP?
-
this is going to be a loooong night…our passes aren’t connecting, we can’t break out and have not had any real pressure. Gordon needs to lay into them in the locker room
-
I said this last game, but apparently the Islanders coaching staff is clueless….What is up with the slow east west carry it to the line on the powerplay that continues to fail? Its like the Islanders enjoy watching the time just tick off the clock on the man adv. Get to the red line dump and crash…this powerplay is disgusting and whichever coach is in charge of it, needs to be relieved of his duties
-
TT somehow I don’t see Gordo as the type who will lay into anyone in the locker room
-
this is not a playoff team. don’t spend for no reason
-
I’m on the road w/ a really slow wireless connection, so the best I can do is follow the stats on NHL.com…shots are 15 to 5…sounds like the Isles are playing some inspired hockey tonight!
-
ROTFLMAO! Isles need a whole lot more than a *puck-moving defenseman*! Philly played a tough game last night and they are taking it to us with EASE!
WOW! -
Agreed, Gordon needs to read them the riot act, they’re skating slowly, making awful decisions with the puck and have given Philly all the momentum they need, we’ll be lucky to get a point the way this one’s going tonight
-
Playing the Flyers with Philly on a losing streak is a recipe for a sure loss. Terrible first period. And Biron hasn’t been very good this season, a couple good starts but his numbers are pretty poor. Isles would be luck to get a 3rd round pick for him.
-
No excuse for this lousy play. Had 2 days off and playing a tired flyers team in disarray. If they don’t wake up and play better and beat philly tonight they never will. How do you lose to a team 11 times in a row and come out flat?
-
Why do people keep saying we should trade Biron for a defenseman? Look at Biron’s record and GAA. It would be impossible to get anything out of Biron at this moment. The team needs some more players…
Why not put Hunter at the point on the PP?
-
#19 – You’re a Flyers fan, huh?
Another site that may have the game is channelsurfing.net.
There’s a huge lack of effort from the entire team thus far. I maintain that most of the time Biron hasn’t been the problem in the games that he’s lost, but it looked like he gave up on that breakaway goal. The real difference between Rolly and Biron thus far has been Roloson’s extra effort. Biron made sure to keep up with Richards across the crease, but Rolly would have thrown a poke check or done something to make sure that if Richards was going to score it was going to take him more than just being faster from right to left. In a game where the rest of the team looks flat Marty’s got to do more than be solid, and the team needs a swift kick in the ass. Hopefully Gordon loses it in the room and the Isles come out with some jump.
-
Garth needs to get 2 D men now. 1 for all the injuries and 1 to replace Gervais who has been brutal. And Streit looks slow and weak and not himself too.
-
Yeah, the Flyers being on a losing streak is certainly no excuse. If Philly was on a winning streak we’d be using that was why we’re not winning. If anything, now’s the time to jump on them. The only team they’ve beaten in their last 9 games is us.
-
gordons face on that close up says it all!!!!!
-
After watching that first person, I’m wishing I had DirecTV. Ugh. They look awful out there.
-
The offense has generated virtually nothing tonight. Streit looked like he was skating in mud during the 1st period power play.
-
any word on the Jackman injury??
-
Jackman is hurt Kevin, hip pointer.
Islanders are getting run over, no answer, this is a joke.
-
Cam Fowler, here we come!!!!!!!!
-
no energy and no life = Gordon’s team not prepared
-
when does dp come back>> for all those who thinks biron has trade value shame on you.
-
when is enough enough with Martin Biron! They should call him the “Ice Cream Man” or “Mr. Softie”
-
Knew it would be UUUUUGLY
-
So when does the firesale begin? kidding but really is Snow giong to pull the trigger on a D man soon or what
-
Get rid of Richard Park.He is totally useless.He can’t score,He can’t kill penalties.he can’t defend[-14].
-
Say what you want about Versus but this is one of the COUPLE of times that the Islanders are on NATIONAL Television.
Way to go, guys!
Shameful, inexcusable effort!!! -
This game is a joke, can we bring up some toughness with Jackman out at least. Give Martin or Reich or Wrecker another shot, this is out of hand.
-
Wow, sad, sad effort, getting worse.
-
now that one was not his fault
-
They are playing with their puds tonight
-
they a joke tonight
-
pathetic showing…..first HD game of the year and one of the worst games of the year….awesome
-
hmmmm I think my 6-2 Isles win with a JT hat trick might not be looking too good right now. What do you all think???
-
We are an awful hockey team – i couldnt believe the amount of posters on here that predicted we would win – i had them losing 5-2 tonight – i gave them too much credit myself too
-
who knows how many days till the draft lottery?
-
JOKE, A MOFO JOKE!! A big reason why I will never get season tix. This reminds meof last year’s 9-0 shellacking in carolina
-
….man the Flyers are bringin it tonight. But seriously when you have Sim on the PP what the hell do you expect other than one of the worst PP in the league.
-
Okposo looks like a fish out of water on the powerplay. Too many guys trying to do everything by themsleves. Ugly, sloppy, listless.
-
After this loss, the Islanders are officially the 5th worst team in the league. Yes, that’s right, despite decent play, the Islanders are now bottom 5 in the league once again.
-
terrrrrrrible game so far. 5-0 final
-
the islanders were 10-12 last year when they spiraled downward and lost game after game, i hope this isn’t the start of that trend….at least last year the effort was usually there (not in this game). Now lets all pay attention to how mark streit carries it through the neutral zone on this pp
-
Love the use of Tambellini on the point! He has the speed to recover from a turnover and the shot to handcuff a goaltender. It would be nice if they continue to do that.
-
I wish my team was good!
-
if someone does not cream pronger….
-
I guess the Flyers fans wanted more teeth on the ice to call the penalty legit. Gotta love Flyers fans, half the knowledge and twice the whining.
-
No answer for Pronger, get some toughness up here.
-
Isles are getting MUGGED! Someone had better give Pronger a little payback if this game isn’t close later.
-
….and enough of Tambellini on the point. What is Gordon thinking. Apparently he doesn’t even know the rules.
-
Who is going to run Carter or Richards? Who is going to stop someone like Pronger from cheap shoting someone like Tavares or Okposo? Who?
-
If only, if only we had a decent power play
-
Well maybe i’ll get the JT hat trick part
-
COME ON!! Comeback is on
-
2 goals and a missing tooth for JT. thats gotta be some sort of hat trick
-
Second goal for JT, nice hands
-
2 for JT, thats great payback for that hit Pronger layed on him
-
Biron very weak with rebounds tonight.
-
expect a call up from B-port for Jackman. I think he’s injured. Bring on JJ
-
58…someone has to step up. Thompson comes to mind. Anyone. Become a team and stand up for each other.
-
Gotta love JT
The useless Sim is proving how much he sucks tonight
-
If Jackman is hurt Isles need to bring up someone with size. I don’t want to see Shremp (sp)
-
Too much reaching, not enough skating on the pk
-
When are they going to learn the stupid BOX PK DOES NOT WORK. They get back into the game than stand around on he PK and it’s in the net. When we are on the PP the Flyers constantly attack..awful.
-
Nice joke the Islanders played on us…Us thinking they were good…haha good one
-
When Biron playes that equals a loss
-
Dan #72, right on. I have had enough with him already. Its so frustrating
-
58 and 67 – Tamby has a wicked shot, it’s not a great idea to have him on point, but it’s not the worst Gordon could do. Seriously, Witt could be there.
Marty’s got to go. He should’ve been out after goal #4. Gordon must really be trying to get Rolly some rest.
-
This season is getting more painful to watch.
-
I need Sim to be traded, cut, demoted or something. Biron shouldn’t be starting.
We need an actual d-man on the point. We need way more Roli and I love Witt…but his time is over. -
what is okposo doing?
-
They look like dog meat for the second game in a row. Gervais is a joke and okposo is playing like a third liner
-
Is Okposo (who I LOVE) ever going to score again?
Time to get him off the point.
-
Well…the NHL.com stats I’m following told me all I need to know:
PP: NYI…Sim, snap shot, 57′
-
Tamby has a nice wrist shot when he has time and that’s about it. You would think a guy that small who refuses to play d would skate a little faster too. Mcdonald, Gervais, Streit, Hillen, Meyer I’d rather see on the point before #15/
-
Games like this are why NYI is a LOSER of an organization. Not only does ownership and management not get the players to help legitimately compete, but the players they DO have don’t show any effort against a vulnerable opponent.
When does the culture of LOSING ever change?
-
I have watched every second of every games except 3 when I was out of the country.
SOMEONE PLEASE TEL ME WHAT OKPOSO IS DOING AT THE LEFT POINT ON THE PP?
I am sorry, last few games he has coughed the puck up so much I think he has a contract with Robitussin!
22 -
Gervais and Meyer just are plain terrible, our defense is the worst in the league with probably Streit and Hillen(if you hide him on the 3rd pair) as NHLers.
-
Stephen #82. Ditto
-
I think its time for DP to come back, and time to part terms with biron…I like the guy, and granted the Isles are not playing good in front of him when he plays, but I’d have to say the guys probably don’t have the confidence in playing in front of him as they do in front of rolly…maybe just not the marriage we all wanted with biron here on the island…trade him, get what we can for him now before his gaa balloons any higher
-
The Cryers are a dirty team full of dirty players lead by Mr. Dirty himself, Chrissy Pronger. I wish we had someone capable of pummeling one of their players.
-
#58 Thompson cannot fill in for Jackman tonight; last game he got hit with a puck on the cheek bone and got 8 stitches. That means Philly can do what they want tonight with no one standing up for them….Too bad, we have absolutely no defense….
-
a game like this makes me wish weight was back on the point on the pp and on the bench showing leadership.
-
Our D is weak and Okposo scores much more efficiently down low than on the point. I think Gordon is having another one of his brainfarts. And Snow really needs to help this team because I have a feeling the team is starting to take a turn for the worse. I feel a bad streak or slide coming on and I hope I’m wrong.
-
complete nonsense for Biron to be getting the number of starts he’s getting, at least Roloson always gives them a chance to win.
-
One more JT goal will outshine Lavi’s first win in the news..
-
Okposo just doesn’t seem to have the brains, he makes a lot of really dumb plays.
-
Gordon’s job is safe.
The Youngster’s jobs are safe.
Marginal players have Russia and Europe when things end on the Island.
Tonight is what you get.
Pitiful. -
As I watched this game it seems to me the team has hit a wall. They look absolutely exhausted. Again, I question Gordons system. Is it too much on the players? SHould the players be in better shape? I mean really, watching 2 periods the Flyers are literally skating circles around the Isles. What else can explain such uninspired, slow play???
-
that goal was crap
-
Biron cant stop a damn beach ball
-
okposo does it again…really pitiful
-
CB, when is enough a enough! I understand they didn’t help him buy can you make 1 big save! He never can steal a game
-
this is the one damn game i get on hd too because i have verizon…stupid cabelvision with their rights crap, and this is what i get.
-
Sim needs to be replaced with somebody, ANYBODY! And the team needs some new defensemen. I’d love to hear Snow’s reasoning for not picking up say, a Randy Jones, when he was available. All of us armchair GMs knew he’d help the team. My guess is Snow was just outsmarting himself once again.
-
I cant watch gervais anymore.
-
what sucks is that there is no one to throw in on d…we have a plethora of forwards, and no d men
-
I can’t watch Biron anymore! He never makes a save that u can say wow he should not have saved that! Maybe they are trying to showcase him but they are hurting the team
-
we need d. we need coaching on the pp. jeff tamby on the point needs to stop. okposo on the point needs to stop. this team is a bit more into the rebuilding program than it was last year, but god damnit we have so much more work to do.
-
We need to Trade Biron. Park, Witt,
-
CB, 1 last question! Why in god’s name is Jon Sim on the PP? Why is he even playing? Reminds me of Andy Hilbert
-
The team is definitely taking a turn for the worse. I’m not sure we could have expected anything better though. Everyone, Islanders faithful included, expected the team to be down right bad. They played way above their collective talent levels, and now that the injuries have set in, the team is starting to play like everyone expected. I wouldn’t mind seeing Biron swung to a team for some good depth players or a good defender now. His value would be higher in February, but if the team’s going to keep rolling now, it may be a good idea.
-
playoff team – more like pathetic team
1 step forward , 10 steps back
were an inconsistent , uninspiring and
pathetic hockey team who makes someone like hedman look good and now peter laviolette
note for gordo – while your sitting comeau and schremp you might as well sit half of your team who makes just as many mistakes as these two – great teacher your supposed to be – yeah right
and garth , your team needs help , keep prolonging getting help and your team will be more like a lottery team then a playoff team
from a frustrated islander fan -
The isle defense is PATHETIC Witt gervais and meyer have no business being in the NHL
-
Not to double comment, but good to see JT mucking it up when no one else will…
-
really JT has to do everything…..wow
-
Tavares = Goon
-
I can watch the Isles get their clocks cleaned … hey … I’ve grown accostomed to it …. but what I can’t stand is Vs. … this whole broadcast is ridiculous … horrible Play by Play and Color … Homers that work for Comcast … it’s like watching a national version of MSG when the Isles play the Rags.
+ Tavares’ two goals and sticking up for Biron.
-
what was that?? are u joking me streit
-
OMG, I think I saw Park on the ice earlier. I thought he was at home on his couch.
-
Y’all should stop getting on Okposo’s case. This kid is the best all around player we have. Bad night for him, it happens. The whole team stinks tonight, except JT. Biron, well I cant stand seeing him in net anymore. I like his mask but other than that, he stinks. Rolo should be playing 75% of the games. Biron can not be counted on, its a joke already with him. Please ship him out ASAP. Coem on DP, get 100% and help us out! Snowy, we need offense and defense. Not havign Suttons size and strength against Philly is really a glaring issue.
-
KO has to be taken off the point … he’s weak there and it takes him off his strong side … down low along the boards.
-
this could get ugly.
-
tambellini looks better at point than okposo. something ahve to change.
Isles were not really to match the philly intensity tonight.
Hope the bounce back and beat toronto tomorrow.
-
power play is awful tonight, streit is awful tonight, the score is awful tonight.
-
Can’t win them all.
-
the islanders need someone who is a mean prick for games like this…
-
safe to say if Snow wants to see his team stay in the thick of things we can expect a trade soon, because with this roster we’re a sure bet for a lottery in April or whenever it is.
-
so glad the islanders didn’t think they needed an enforcer..
-
NHL.com stat:
Hit by B. Gervais on C. Giroux
Hmm…something tells me that one wasn’t a clock-cleaner.
-
Great rebuilding plan. Put the worst team out on the ice possible to get a high draft pick. May as well hire a monkey to do the job and save on the gm’s salary.
-
a real stinker on national TV, woohoo.
-
Back to reality. This team is not making the playoffs.
-
Okposo would be even more effective of a player if he played with some nastiness. He could prob roll over anyone in the league. I wish he looked for the hit more often. I know hes gritty in the corners, but rarely looks to line someone up. Seems to do it occasionally when hes mad, but it would be fun to watch on a consistent basis. Do not take this as a knock/complaint at all on the kid b/c its not. Just another element he could add to his game that i wouldnt mind seeing.
-
I gave up after 2nd period and am driving to Philly to goon it up with Pronger. Somebody needs to go after him and nobody on the current roster is going to do it. Wish me luck
-
embarassing, at least tavares looked good.
-
guessing the score should get ya something
as i predicted 6-2
cb i called it
-
Ok, they have work to do. Philly is a much better team, our D is suspect, lets move on and see how they do tomorrow night in Toronto
-
Gervais should not be in the NHL
-
so easy to jump back on the gordon sucks/snow sucks bandwagon after a bad game. <—Sarcasm. Apparently we have 50 gm’s and coaches on this blog who should have jobs in the nhl. They played like crap tonight, but give it a rest with the firesale of all personnel on the team after every game we lose.
-
notes and observation:
1)gervais and sim are not nhl players.
2)our defense is soft as a baby’s a**
3)no secondary scoring
4)i wouldn’t mind seeing us get one of hall/seguin/fowler/kabanov to add to our elite young player pool -
This has nothing to do with Gordon and everything to do with the team not moving their feet at all. If they continue to play like that I think Gordon should just punish them with tough practices until they figure it out. Just because they are more physical then you doesn’t mean you should stick out stick into the pile and hope you come out with the puck. They played like they were made of fine China and didn’t want to chip their plates.
-
Gervais on ice for all but the shorty…
-
Isles are so determined to build birons trade value up that they keep playing him. That’s why the were dead last last year n will miss playoffs this year… Bad coach bad gm bad owner
-
One last point and then I’m done – the mystery D-man in the lineup who is playing badly hurt that CB alluded to must be Streit; he looked AWFUL tonight – this is NOT the same guy who got serious votes for the Norris mere months ago. A hampered Streit, a still-developing Hillen plus Bruno, Witt, Meyer and MacDonald = an awful defense against a team full of big forwards like Philly. You do have to give them credit, they played a great game against us; us playing pathetically just made it more embarrassing.
-
biron looked slow ,out in a whole nother world out there he is just terrible. ride rolie, place dp as a backup
-
Maybe it’s time for the Isles to get a legit NHL enforcer.
-
As good as Mark Streit was last year, that’s how bad he is this year. He takes lazy penalties snd he hasn’t made quick decisions with the puck – in passing or shooting
-
Terrible, lets just see how they play tomorrow. I’ll bet they find a way to win and then they come home. The remainder of this month will tell if we are playoff bound. WIN AT HOME OR ELSE!
-
And for the criticism that Streit is taking on here, how could he really match what he did for us last year! He’s fine, he just maybe played over his head last year.
-
I am proud about tonight, we didn’t back down no matter what the score. It was resilient.
-
rollie has to start 4 or 5 in a row! he is better when he works
-
BTW Tavares is deadly from the circles down!
-
Holiday wish list;
1 Enforcer
1 Big Tough Defensmen
1 Big Tough Power Forward -
… and a partridge in a pear tree
-
From the start this team was playing intimitated. They kept missing passes because they were looking where the Flyers were at.
What kind of a group of sissies allows any player much less the franchise player get a tooth knocked out on an incredibly dirty hit and has no response. I mean you’d have though icing had just been called. No one went after Pronger. The battle level and committment to each other on this team sucks.
Playoffs……no one better talk playoffs this is a loooooong way from being a playoff team.
As of yesterday the Isles would be picking 8th overall in the draft and that is with adding two legit #1 goalies in Roloson and Biron. It tells you how bad this team is, especially on defense.
Be smart if they pick 6 they have a shot at a big mean physical, talented d-man, worse then they can try to get in on Hall or Fowler but please no more BS-ing the fans.
We don’t expect to win much this year just see improvements. We do expect to see NHL players since we all have to spend money to watch this team. We do expect that this team will not be taken advantage off and can protect itself but Snow/Wang/Gordo are not delevering those basic expectations.
Expect more of it in Toronto unless they wise up and call up Riechlecz and more. Anyone else not wanting to see Thompson and Jackman turning down fights that they know they’ll get killed on? It’s sad to watch.
Way too many AHL players. D
Sim sucks! Geravis, Meyer, Witt SUCK! -
Oh well, it was bound to be a letdown game. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Tavares wants his 2 front teeth for Christmas.
-
Since the Islanders are the only team the Flyers beat (only 2 wins in the last 9 and 12 straight losses to the Flyers)another losing streak is up for the Flyers.
-
Terrible game !!! This team is going nowhere the rest of this season. With no secondary scoring it’s tme to bring up JJ, and Trevor Smith from BP. No time better then the present to get them some NHL experience.
-
People say that we desperately need a true nhl enforcer, while I agree to some degree I do not believe just any enforcer will be the right solution. Just look at Brashear with the Rangers…
-
You all are lucky to have Roloson. I have been a huge fan ever since he was here with the Wild in MN. One thing I can tell you as you have already witnessed is that the guy can always step it up, and he gives the team a chance to win almost every game. He gets better the more you play him and that is a fact. He needs to be played like a fydolla ho. He really does get better. Just look at how he did with the Oilers a few years back in the Cup Finals. The Isles need to toss that spank, Biron. He needs to go and go now.
-
well blake and shremp. heres your shot.
-
As long as our young players continue to improve and play well, it doesn’t bother me at all if we finish with another top 5 pick.
We have Okposo. We’ve added Moulson. Bailey evolves into a reliable third line presence. In the best of all possible worlds, we eventually add Joensuu, Petrov and Martin along the wings. And sign Kovalchuk to play the right side alongside Tavares. Plus add another top 5 pick this year with de Haan also on the way.
Rome wasn’t built in a day – or a year.

I’ll post it again, there are certain teams in the NHL that are going to give this team with this style of play major problems. Go Go has to work on adjusting the gameplan against these kinds of teams. The Flyers have huge defenseman and their forwards are fast and talented. Teams like this, buffalo, nj, boston, montreal and the like will give this team trouble all the time.
-
best case scenario is that we become the kings…they showed lots of promise all last season and developed nicely and then poofed out down the stretch to land them right back in the lottery…then add a vet during the following offseason and be a legit playoff contender the following year.
and to 145: what do you honestly expect from garth? he has not made a single false move as gm. you can’t honestly expect that there are any possible moves out there that he could have made to make this team a cup contender NOW.
-
175 do you honestly think we can or will sign kovalchuk? 1 we don’t have the money to sink into just one guy who isn’t a complete player and 2, why would he want to sign with us anyway? plus, he is a fly-by-cherry picker with a hang-at-center-ice no-win attitude. i’d rather use that money on the eventual JT extension.
-
as if Kovalchuk would want to be an islander…lol…get a grip, Tavares won’t even play there a second longer than he has to..enjoy him for the three years…if the “team” can stay afloat that long…
-
Im glad i passed on this one. I wont really watch hockey till they bring thr toughness back and an Enforcer to the island. My 11 year old sons lacrosse game has more hitting than an Isles game. His last game would have atleast 4 or 5 year long NHL suspensions if they had the same lame people watching over their game. Get BIG Mac from florida kill 2 birds with one stone, you get an Enforcer that threw the Wrecker around like he was Nate Thompson and he plays Defense!!!!
-
It looks like ISLES need 3-4 NHL quality defenseman.
-
It’s not the fact that the team lost it’s last 2 games, it’s how they lost that bothers me. Those are the kind of losses that send up red flags and can have a snowball effect.
-
On opening nite, looking at the roster, this is the EXACT game that I would expect. A mugging, a one sided loss, no dirty work and 2 goals by the franchise. Yup, thats what I expected from this team on opening nite. So with that said, they did not disappoint me.
-
Tavares can thank Wang & Snow for losing a tooth. Ya think Pronger thinks twice about hitting JT from behind if C Orr or a real enforcer was there to retaliate?
Another blunder by Wang/Snow as everyone knew we needed an enforcer (as well as a D man) since the summer. Cheap.
-
Terrible. Could barely watch the 3rd period. We’re part way there, but missing key pieces.
Here are the issues imo:
- Need an enforcer. JT should NEVER ever be involved in a scrum like that. Keep that up, and he’ll have a short career when guys start head hunting him.
- D is AWFUL. Witt just dumps and takes bad penalties. Gervais is weak and afraid. Streit, for all his offensive prowess, is a defensive nightmare. 2 goals are all on him.
- Biron needs to start playing like he wants to be a number 1 somewhere, and not like he’s just collecting a paycheck. We’d be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him right now.
- Please PLEASE someone agree with me that this team needs a FULL day or two of just shooting practice. How many freaking times do we need to miss the net every single game before we realize thats a problem. Howie must be SO damned tired of saying, “shot, oh he missed by a country mile”?We need D help. Time to spend the 20 mil or so we’ve go sitting in cap space, or DP wont last 3 weeks when he comes back. No, we wont win the cup this year, but spend a few to solidfy this team for a deep run so some young FA’s come here.
Sorry for the rant, just couldnt take anymore after the TB and Philly games.
-
say what you want about Witt’s toughness and his ability to even dress for the game… but he didn’t hit a single flyer tonight. He’s awful.
Bruno was brutal.
Streit was lazy??? tired???
Oh well… Toronto here we come… all banged up.

If the Isles D plays that bad tonight, they may as well run Rollo out there with a Sam LoPresti jersey. The scoreboard will roll over like an old pinball machine trying to count the shots.
-
Gordons facial expression summed the nite up. looks like most have stopped palying for Gordon. They also forgot how to hit as well. The flyers pushed them around like leaves in a hurricane…We were just what the flyers needed….I am glad we could help them out..
-
Any team looks bad when they don’t skate. As much as lack of talent has been responsible for many Isles losses this year, last night was simply lack of effort. They’ve bounced back well from similar games earlier in the year (Montreal comes to mind), so let’s see what they’ve got tonight. Either way, Gordon has to get the team to bring a consistent effort every game. And Sutton’s shot blocking is sorely missed.
-
And the roller coaster take a turn downwards. Its amazing how Snow is a genius or a moron depending on the last 3
I know we all got our hopes up when they were out working top tier teams and were in almost every game. I think it gave us a false sense that we were closer then we really are. Still only year two of rebuild. We have injuries to our leaders. Our young guys are struggling. We have a start but not all the players required for a turn around (Sim, Tamby, Meyer, Witt, Gervais, Jackman are pretty much standing in until we can get upgrades). Have a little more patience guys, we’ve seen flashes of what this team could be, but I think we may have gotten a little ahead of ourselves.
-
cb, supposively ville koistenen is on re-entry waivers… future islander?
-
First off, it’s amazing to see all the haters and doubters come back out when just a few weeks ago everyone here was excited and talking playoffs and how much this team has improved over last year. Way to jump ship during a rough patch people. As for an enforcer keeping Pronger from taking a cheap shot on JT? Wouldn’t have stopped him. He’s played like this against every team his whole career. He’s a dirty player and he gets away with it because he’s a name guy. That said, it would’ve been nice for someone to take a shot at Briere or Richards in retaliation. And for the armchair GM’s…do you really think it’s that easy to make deals? Every team wants a young, big, tough and mobile defenseman. It’s not like they’re hanging around ripe for the picking. Quit acting like this team should be contending by now. We’re at the beginning of this rebuild, it takes time. This isn’t a video game where you can just wheel and deal and overturn your roster in minutes.

.. Terrible effort
Bad-no energy, bad execution and run out of the building (Philly RAN OVER THE ISLANDERS – THATS EMBARESSING!!!)
The Islanders need a guy with a lil bit of a mean streak and some size and some beef, when JT is beig physical you know we need help – Cmon GARTH get some size/beef ASAP!
-
Nobody should be too surprised at last night’s ass whooping! It was ugly.
Momo to Scott Gordon: This is what happens when you send out smurfs like Freddy “The Last” Meyer aginst orges like Scott Hartnell. You’ll end up looking like road kill.
The only good thing that happen was JT standing up for his goalie after getting cheapshoted by that gutless puke Chris Pronger.
We need more size and someone like Chris Carins to keep the other team’s thugs honest. You don’t line up 5’10″ 180 lbs smurfs up aginst 6’3″ 225+ lbs slabs of beef and expect to win or tie!

Good to see you back Schultzy.
I’m as die hard an Islander fan as they come, but tonight may be the biggest lock of the century. Lavy gets his first win tonight.
