ISLANDERS at RANGERS, 7:05 pm - Wang, Roloson starts, Bruno’s out, WJC, JJ, Figren, Tavares

Chris Botta on Twitter

FanHouse’s Bruce Ciskie on Matt Donovan

11:30 am - Scott Gordon this morning when asked if he’s going to employ one player to try and stop Marian Gaborik: “We’re gonna bring in Kenny Morrow and use him as our shutdown guy.”

*

Whatever Happens…Charles Wang told a few reporters at the Board of Governors meetings in California that he did not want to discuss Brooklyn or any other options for his Islanders in the press. Asked if the team could stay on Long Island, the owner said, “Yeah, I hope so. Whatever happens, happens.”

As we’ve written repeatedly in this space for a year, Wang has a serious distate for the thought of the Islanders being anywhere except exactly where they are - in Nassau County.

*

Battle of New York: The Islanders enter tonight’s game at Madison Square Garden having won only one of their last five, 12 of their last 33. They are two points out of the eight and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. They are tied with five other teams for the No. 2 spot in the draft lottery.

The team may not be a juggernaut and they certainly have not earned the right to take anyone lightly, but look at their opponents in their next seven games - all in New York: Rangers (3x), Montreal, Tampa Bay, Toronto and Philadelphia. If they can’t make some hay here, they won’t make it anywhere.

The goaltending matchup: Dwayne Roloson vs. Henrik Lundqvist. Chad Johnson could start for the Rangers on Thursday at the Coliseum.

Johnson told the Rangers media that his dad was a big Islanders fan. This is common, just as many from my generation like the Cowboys, Steelers and Dolphins. And front-running 9-year-old that he is, my son Cole is all about the Pittsburgh Penguins.

*

Since his team didn’t practice yesterday in the aftermath of their home pasting by the Panthers, Scott Gordon exercized his vocal cords today at the morning skate. He made the boys start a drill over and got loud a few times. On one occasion, he yelled, “Shoot the puck”! It wasn’t aimed at anyone in particular.

No shootout goal tonight for Jeff Tambellini. He and Bruno Gervais are scratched.

The lines from today’s morning skate at the Garden:

Moulson - Tavares - Comeau

Joensuu - Schremp - Hunter

Bailey - Nielsen - Okposo

Sim - Thompson - Park

Streit - Meyer

Sutton - Hillen

Witt - MacDonald

Gervais

Roloson

Biron

The Rangers’ lineup that put up 46 shots on Monday against Atlanta remains tonight:

Higgins - Dubinsky- Gaborik

Prospal - Drury - Callahan

Avery - Anisimov - Kotalik

Brashear - Boyle - Lisin

Staal - Rozsival

Del Zotto - Girardi

Redden - Heikkinen

Lundqvist

Johnson

Voros and Christiansen are out. Donald Brashear doesn’t have anyone to fight, so I guess he’ll try to keep the peace and score a goal.

Gordon said the difference is night and day with Jesse Joensuu since training camp, which he called a “nightmare” for the 6-4 Finn. “He’s not turning the puck over all the time.” Seems the kid was trying too hard to make the team and temporarily lost his way and his game. Gordon, asked by The Jaff for any comparisons to the size-and-skill game of Trent Hunter, said of JJ, “He’s on his way to being that kind of player.”

Goalie Prospect Depth Chart: There was a question in Comments yesterday about the Islanders’ goaltending prospect pool. The serious hip injury to Mikko Koskinen may not have an effect because he was at least two years away from a steady shot at NHL playing time. So here it is:

1. Koskinen - Bridgeport (AHL)

2. Kevin Poulin (left) - Victoriaville (QMJHL)

3. Anders Nilsson - Team Sweden at WJC, SEL

4. Stefan Ridderwall - SEL

If Roloson or Martin Biron suffer an injury, Scott Munroe or Nathan Lawson would be recalled from Bridgeport to back up. Lawson’s stats are slightly better, but Munroe has more experience. Neither would get much playing time, so they could go back and forth. Lawson shut out Portland last night, 2-0, in the game Rick DiPietro was originally scheduled to play as his final tuneup.

Koskinen, the rapidly-emerging Poulin, Nilsson and Ridderwall give the Islanders the depth and quality of young goalies they haven’t had since Roberto Luongo and Kevin Weekes. Even with Koskinen’s injury and DiPietro’s continued plight, Ryan Jankowski shouldn’t have to use any of his picks in the first three rounds next June on goalies.

*

Two for Canada: In case you missed it below, Islanders prospects Travis Hamonic and Calvin de Haan have made Team Canada for the World Junior Championships that begin later this month in Saskatoon. The NHL Network is broadcasting all of Team USA’s and some of Canada’s games.

*

Figren in Freefall: 2006 third round pick Robin Figren is already at a crossroads in the development of his North American career. He may only be 21 and in his first full season in the AHL, but you can call this a crisis.

On a not-deep minor league team in Bridgeport, Figren has become a healthy scratch. He has two assists in 22 games. This has become so dire, you almost have to assume there’s a reason why the Swedish wing has yet to be sent to Utah of the East Coast Hockey League. Perhaps he is balking at the re-assignment.

Until then, Figren is not even a prospect any more. So much for the good kid who flashed some skill and a big smile at the prospect camp this summer. Sad.

Kohn Injured Again: In other Sound Tigers news, Dustin Kohn suffered a “lower body injury” last night in the home win over Portland. Kohn, the next in line should a Bridgeport defenseman need to be recalled, was evaluated this morning and listed as day-to-day. He apparently was hit in a sensitive area - like the sensitive area.

*

Red-Faced Report: Remember Kyle Woodlief, the former “scout” who took the opportunity to sell some of his pamphlets by ripping on John Tavares leading up to the draft? With Tavares leading all NHL rookies in points and assists, let’s recall some of Woodlief’s greatest hits:

Right now, he’s the third-best draft-eligible forward on his own team behind Nazem Kadri and Phil Varone.

Five-on-five, Tavares has been nothing short of a liability.

His attitude of entitlement stinks.

Let’s try to remember this the next time Kyle uses another teenager to make a name for himself.

After the morning skate, Tavares gave the same kind of polished, respectful answers about playing in Madison Square Garden that he did about playing in Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Sunrise, Raleigh…

Post-game Plus/Minus, MSG edition: Join Point Blank later tonight as we take our interactive P/M to Manhattan. As we do for every game at the Coliseum, we’ll give thumbs up and down to everything from Islanders-Rangers to the event surrounding the game.

“Donald Brashear doesn’t have anyone to fight, so I guess he’ll try to keep the peace and score a goal.”
    - So we need an enforcer to keep Brashear from being a scoring threat?
…if Gordon sits Gervais and dresses McDonald it’ll be an early Christmas present…go isles

  3. 3 isles316

CB is right on, over the next couple of weeks if the Isles continue to struggle, then it’s a top 5 pick. All in all, not the worst thing that could happen.

  4. 4 TM

Just 1 of many many things that Wang has gotten wrong as Nassau politicians and fans don’t support NYI enough for him to think as he does.

It’s OK Charles, the Devils left the swamp suburbs for the city and NYI should do the same. Follow their financial model as they know what they’re doing and you don’t!!!

  5. 5 Lane

If Chad Johnson starts in goal at the Coliseum, can we all chant “Ochocinco”?

  6. 6 Jethro09

So what muscle is going to be in the lineup tonight or do the Isles just plan on letting Avery and Brashear run the crap out of our young guys? Maybe Sim can be the muscle, since he’s such a good agitator (sarcasm)…

  7. 7 Blizzard

….haha love the red faced report CB!!!! What a tool.

  8. 8 Chris Mc

I like Bruno as a person but all season he has seriously seemed lost out there. At this point I think we’re better off with MacDonald in the lineup. Also glad to see Gordo keeping the same forward lines at least for tonight.

  9. 9 mmm22

    Kyle Woodlief = Hans Gruber

  10. 10 ny711ot

Injury or not Streit really needs to step it up tonite or we are in for a long one…CB how dare you let that 9 yr old of yours parade around in a Crosby jersey. Another example that in the end winning is the best way to get new fans….

  11. 11 Doug

Extremely happy that MacDonald is getting the start over Bruno. I never notice MacDonald, and that’s a good thing. He’s not flashy, doesn’t turn the puck over, and has decent speed. Good enough for me.

  12. 12 Big Dog

    I’ll be there tonight!!!!

    Screaming my head off!!!

  13. 13 CrackheadTheo

ill be there tonight with 5 isles fans. We will all be in our Isles gear

  14. 14 Zeike

I hate these line combos. Okposo should be playing with JT and Moulson. For the one shift they were together over the last two games they scored a goal. And maybe Nielsen and Comeau should be on the same line after their combination led to the overtime goal against Boston. Also hate Bailey as a wing. Another idea, how about the Isles look into securing a right handed D-man one of these days, too.

  15. 15 dan

    LETS GO ISLANDERS.

Beat the rag$. I hate every player on that team!

  16. 16 Dorfer

Will be at NVMC West tonight for the game. As with 90% of the fans there, I got the tickets through work and I will be representing the Orange & Blue at ice level. Should be fun.

  17. 17 jonsson3

    LETS GO ISLES!!
BEAT THE GABORIKS, I MEAN RAGS

  18. 18 Brian G

Bruno deserves to be scratched, after the last few games…If Aaron Ward is put on Re-Entry Waivers they should pick him up…it would only cost them about 700K and if the Islanders are out of the playoff hunt come March, they could trade him…..low risk move

  19. 19 Eric Nystrom

I am sitting here at work debating whether or not to go tonight.. I tucked my brand new John Tavares jersey in my car just in case.. Victory is so sweet @ MSG and I have been to a few, but losing is not fun. Anyone here going tonight?

  20. 20 Joe in Massapequa

I will be there with my brother in law who is a rangers fan. It should be fun and I am predicting Comeau and Sutton step it up on the physical side tonight.

  21. 21 BJ

#6, Avery is a shell of his former self thanks to Torterella and if Sutton and Witt cant handle old Brashear if need be, thats just sad….

  22. 22 nightfly

I think that when we cast “Point Blank: The Movie,” Owen Wilson is a shoo-in to play Kyle Woodlief. Seven Kinds of Smoke, baby!

    CB - don’t despair. Just buy Cole a black-and-gold #19 Trottier jersey.

  23. 23 Mike L

Bruno is maybe the nicest, most likeable person, but is playing horrible hockey and it’s about time Gordon sent him a message. Bruno played well last year with Streit and I find it strange that as Mark struggles this year so is Bruno.

I feel like more Isles fans will be going tonight than tomorrow. Either way, let’s get 4 points. Let’s go Islanders

  24. 24 Tom

“Whatever happens, happens.” That’s classic Charles B. Wang right there!

  25. 25 Ethan K

Or make him watch the Thanksgiving weekend game where the Isles shut out Crosby and beat the Penguins. Or show him what the Penguins used to look like before they drafted Crosby and Malkin.

I’ll most likely be going to the city with 3 Rangers fans to watch the game in the ESPN Zone. Please, PLEASE win tonight, or they’ll never let me hear the end of it…

I’m incredibly happy that Gervais was finally scratched. Andrew Macdonald clears the puck at least. However, I’d probably rather have Gervais in than Witt. Gervais needs to get his head on straight. He was showing us something at the end of last year. Maybe getting scratched will get him focused.

We have 2 of our first round picks now on the third line… not sure how much I like that.

  26. 26 Stephen P

I still say the Isles need that top 5 pick more than they need to finsih 8th, make the playoffs to get quickly ousted just to get an okay pick. If they get a top 5, then there is a good chance they get a quality NHL player. The Isles are really only Tavares, Moulsen, and Rolli better than last year. They those 3 weren’t here the Isles would be dead last.

  27. 27 Islesfan99

Isles need a top 5 pick. Then this summer we need to sign size! Get an enforcer who can play 10 mins a night and get a tough 3rd liner and 2 tough dmen.

  28. 28 IslanderFAN

Once again Bruno gets the blame for all the defense problems,..why no take out the very slow Brendan Witt..nah they couldnt hes making 3 millions per year and Streit is making 5 millions per year…with Bruno out it wont make any difference tonight…the defense will still be horrible.

  29. 29 IsleofNJ

    “Whatever happens, happens.”
That is the sound of frustration from C.B. Wang !

  30. 30 Isles fan Ken

Very simple post today: Beat the rag$! Let’s go Islanders!

  31. 31 valentino

Isles need a top 3 pick…they should be cant miss prospects…and thats what we need…cant miss….I have yet to see anything extremely positive come from Snow and Janks in terms of drafting since they took the helm.

JT doesnt count because hellen keller could of made that pick…

  32. 32 Irish Isle

While I want the Isles to beat the Rags for these nxt 3 games, I kinda hope we dont make the run. I know dont like this opinion, but I think we could use one more Top 5 pick. Imagine if we were able to get Cam Fowler, who scouts are comparing as the next Denis F’N POTVIN, team him w/ DeHaan and Harmonic, and we would have a sick D Corp. Round that out w/ Hillen, Donovan and Klementov, Neimi.

  33. 33 Smokey a.k.a. Botta is God

Well, CB… you were right about Woodlief, and I was wrong. I tip my cap to you, sir.

  34. 34 Examiner

Will be there tonight wearing my brand new Tavares jersey! Sitting somewhere in the 300’s behind Lundqvist’s net. Wish that Chad Johnson was starting tonight so we could do that ‘ochocinco’ chant.

Preparing my ears for lots of whistling leading into the infamous “Potvin’s Cups” chants.

  35. 35 Czerkawski

lol they need to grow up, the potvin chants are getting old, and most rags dont even know who potvin is. i understand that they are upset about the check but im not exactly sure how a 4x stanley cup champion, 3x norris trophy winner sucks

  36. 36 4theisles

This stuff with the Lighthouse will eventually be decided, the obvious question- will it happen and if yes when? My guess is that Wang will give up 15%, and the TOH wants 35-40%. So that puts the compromise around 25+%. Bklyn looks like a go now for Ratner so it now becomes a poker game. It seems that Wang has the better cards [the TOH really needs the development] but bluffing counts in cards and life and we will soon see if Charles gets the jack-pot. The Isles are going to stay in the NY area we just don’t where-[which is how you called it CB months ago]

  37. 37 Mlem

I take great satisfaction in their ignorance…attempting to taunt a man who won more cups in 2 years than their organization has won in nearly 70 years now…not to mention numbers 3 and 4:-D

  38. 38 NYICHAMP39

Just as a side not because its getting annoying now. For all Isles fans out there. It is Travis HAMonic not Travis HARmonic. Just been seeing it alot of times on here so thought id clear it up.

  39. 39 James

CB, in your opinion, does this game mean a lot more to the Islanders than it does to the Rangers?

    …j/k

  40. 40 Ajax

If it gets REAL physical, tonight will be one of the nights where we risk having one of our better players getting hurt trying to stick up for one of the kids getting run by the 2 chumps

  41. 41 Bob Beers

Nice to see some of you will be in attendance tonight at MSG. I will be there as well. Let’s Go Islanders!

  42. 42 UIF

Well, they will need to play better hockey than they’ve been to beat any team tonight, Rangers or otherwise. I know our consolation last game was “they don’t play like that often,” but their last 10 games, during which they’ve gone 4-6, include the 7-1 loss to Fla., 6-2 loss to Philly, 4-0 loss to Tampa Bay, and 6-1 loss to NJ. Two of those teams (Philly and TB) are tied with the Isles for 2nd worst point totals in the league. It’s not like the Fla loss just came out of nowhere. Hopefully the rivalry gives them a bit more jump tonight.

  43. 43 Isles Fan in Ulster County

Woodlief’s a shill plain and simple. Tavares is one of most pleasant players to see speak with the media: always puts the team above himself. I think hockey players in general are like that. I’d love to meet Tavares.

  44. 44 BobNy711OT

3 of us heading to NVMC west in full gear, our seats are in the 300’s, blue line next Isles bench. Let’s all meet for warm ups by the Isles bench/side and get a nice chant going! See ya boys tonight, loud and proud..

  45. 45 Jerky

Absolutely thrilled to see Bruno finally get a seat in the press box. He may be a nice guy off the ice but his play has been atrocious since he arrived in the NHL (save a short stretch last year where he actually played decent). Before he was promoted to the club full time, he was billed as an excellent stay at home defenseman with possible offensive upside. He has shown neither since arriving in 05-06 (except for that blip last year) whereas McDonald has already instilled more confidence defensively in his short time as an Islander than Gervais has in his career. It’s time for management to face reality and cut him loose ASAP - he’s not going to develop any further and is a liability on the ice.

#27 (IslanderFAN) - despite benching Bruno, I have to agree that our defense is still horrible. But its a start in the right direction IMO.

  46. 46 ken

Ill be there, sitting real low.

  47. 47 VA ISLES

Have fun on the bench Bruno. You may need to get used to it. PLEASE trade this guy. Take a cheap flier on Aaron Ward. I promise Bruno will not turn into Bryan McCabe. Promise.

  48. 48 LIhockey

Nice to see Comeau promoted to the first line after stepping it up lately.

  49. 49 HilbertSnipe

Kyle Woodlief looks strikingly familiar to Ryan Smyth hahahahaha. What a joke.
I really hope we rob the Rangers tonight of any glory they have left. I wanna see KO dangle the whole team, just like Dustin BUFF did the other night hahaha. That was incredible.

  50. 50 matt

great those line were money against florida

  51. 51 Lakewood Islander

About time for Gervais to be scratched. Maybe he will finally lose his job to someone that keeps his focus, doesnt press to hard, and produces

  52. 52 orngfan

better believe the orngfan will be in attendance tonight. not a huge fan of comeau on the top like tho.

  53. 53 nightfly

You know how lame that Rag$ chant is? You can hear MSG crowd do that at every game. Seriously, they were doing it against Detroit and Columbus. What the blazes have the Blue Jackets to do with a guy who retired and went to the Hall of Fame before they even existed? What’s next, do they heckle Gump Worsley and Dit Clapper?

  54. 54 Lakewood Islander

    Love Gaborik,Hate the Rangers.Sorry!

  55. 55 Johnnyjet

Hamonic and DeHaan making this team is a HUGE step in their development. Something to be proud of as islander fans. Most players to wear the canadian colours end up having solid nhl careers. Great news!!

  56. 56 pete debenedetto

Hopefully we’ll have 20 “new” Islander fans watching the games. Told my 3rd grade class today that if the Islanders beat the rangers tonight AND tomorrow that I’d bring everyone a flying saucer for a treat. One kid asked “What’s a flying saucer….” …ahhhh, Jersey kids have no idea of the rewards growing up a Long Islander.

  57. 57 Metalcoconut

Is it possible that Kyle Woodlief is looking for a studio job with Versus? At his rate all he has to do is discredit Ovie and trash talk Washington and he is in…

  58. 58 Jason

#9 -I was thinking more along the lines of:

    Kyle Woodlief = Al Gore

  59. 59 the bomber

im sure we will trade both for a goalie at the deadline

  60. 60 Jim M

I cannot help to think how much further along this team would be if they had drafted Luke Schenn instead of Bailey. It seems as if Hamonic could be turning into that wildcard though as he was one of the draft picks we acquired in that deal if I am not mistaken. If Bailey can overcome his struggles and truely develop and Hamonic continues I give it two thumbs up then.

  61. 61 Staten Islander

Jim M #52, Luke Schenn is in the doghouse in Toronto, he was a healthy scratch the other night.

  62. 62 Kaszycki's Krew

Re: Bailey - a few weeks in Bridgeport would not hurt him. He needs to get some confidence back. Stick with him - he will prove to be a winner. Wish THE WRECKER and FRITZ ( I know I know - no longer part of our organization) would be in the lineup tonight…..to spill Rag Blood ! LOL GO ISLES

  63. 63 eric nystrom

Wtf has luke schenn done??? Enough anout him.. Overrated..

  64. 64 isles316

we keep forgetting that bailey is 19 years old. he is very young.

  65. 65 4peatsake

After you shut down Gaborik, don’t forget to score the OT goal ala 1984, Kenny!

  66. 66 James

A couple of thoughts, after reading all the comments here:

Bailey: When you take a forward in the top ten, he has got to be in your top six. Send him to Bridgeport and let him develop for a while.

Defense: Paper thin. Ask yourself, who would you keep, and who is interchangeable? Streit and a healthy Sutton, maybe.

Rechlicz: Love his enthusiasm and lord knows he can take a punch. But watching his fights so far, he needs a lot of work. Doesn’t seem to put much power behind his punches, and with the exception of his Cote bout, looked overmatched up in the NHL.

  67. 67 Vas

    Woodlief =MEATHEAD!!

  68. 68 BillyIsle

Why are so manny people down on Streit. This is a guy who a few months ago (and even now) a lot of us wanted to be captain. Is he playing like #1 no, but still extremely solid compared to others around the league. If the Isles can get physical tonight they can win. There is no heart on the rangers. Dont let avery and brashear get on their game.

  69. 69 Blizzard

….to # 68. I guess they made the right decision regarding the captaincy. But seriously Streit is not playing anywhere near the level he did last year. Its early and he can redeem his play but cmon, he has not been the player he was last year not even close IMO.

  70. 70 lakewood islander

Is there such a thing as a goalie weaaring the C? if yes i hereby nominate Rollo

  71. 71 justin

Bring up the grit! This team needs a guy that can bang(hit) so bad you can taste it!

  72. 72 Dorfer

About to leave for NVMC West - Stay proud Isles fans, JT will have a big game tonight. Let’s Go Islanders!

  73. 73 Vlad from Brooklyn

If only Streit could move his legs on PP and cary the team momentum forward…

  74. 74 Jim Clark

One hour until The Battle for 10th Place (with a bunch of others) resumes. Or should it be the Battle to Keep out of 14th Place?

  75. 75 BillyIsle

Expect and Okposo goal tonight against Henrik. He seems to always elevate his game against the Rangers.

  76. 76 tond24

ha another cat ive been hearin so much hype about now not a prospect

  77. 77 jack

Is there a game stream anywhere online?

  78. 78 jack

Nevermind, it’s on yahoo.com for all you out of towners

  79. 79 Chris A

Why is it so quiet? No atmosphere

  80. 80 Alex Kinkead

Can’t wait for WJC! Especially because our blue chips are in!

  81. 81 Staten Islander

There ya go! THATS why Sim plays on the powerplay! i’m beginning to like his game

  82. 82 MSA

Love him, or hate him, #16 is a grinder..

  83. 83 Bob

They already look better without Gervais in the lineup….go Isles go!

  84. 84 BringBackNyles

I hate to say it but MSG may get larger crowds then us, but is there any passion left? Even the Potvin Sucks chant sounds forced. If any NYR fans are lurking tonight, did the Garden drive out every last real ranger fan?

  85. 85 BringBackNyles

And the first fire Sather chant at 19:30 of the period. We can make this ugly for the hosts tonight for a change in this rivalry with another goal

  86. 86 Staten Islander

The only thing deader than the Rags tonight is the crowd

  87. 87 Steven

It has been very quite. You can see both teams have the same issues. More size needed on d and up front. So far so good for the game. When the Isles get the puck in deep and play smart and simple they are a very effective team.

  88. 88 James

Someone called this The Titanic Series: loser goes to the bottom of the Atlantic.

  89. 89 john

What a difference between Andy Mac and Bruno. Gervais for a 4th or 5th round pick sounds good to me.

  90. 90 Bob

I agree about Sullivan….honest and embarrassed. But nothing looks better on the Rags than that.

  91. 91 Islesphan25

What did he say, wasn’t watching

  92. 92 K-Rob

    The Simtuation 1 - Rangers 0

  93. 93 Joe NYC

who scored for isles? msg hasn’t shown the replay but said ugly deflection

  94. 94 BringBackNyles

He said..paraphrasing…”You saw one team that wanted to compete and one that didn’t..with a complete look of disgust on his face. When asked how to correct it, he went off on “they will hear about it as soon as I leave this interview.”

    he was not pulling punches

  95. 95 JustinChi

I think word got through to Bailey. He already has two shots on goal and went wide with another after he had no shots at all in 23 straight periods.

  96. 96 Staten Islander

The Thompson line looks like they’re channeling the French Connection line tonight

  97. 97 Islesphan25

    Thanks guys

  98. 98 cody

time and time again we let players get in on our goalie. somoen needs to take out avery on the next shift

  99. 99 Staten Islander

Avery starts his nonsense and We get the penalty, UNbelievable

  100. 100 JustinChi

How on earth do the Rangers get a power play out of that?

  101. 101 Tony

You cannot let an opponent touch your goalie–EVER!!!!!

The nearest Islander should have tomahawked him, suspension be damned. Man, the Isles are wimps.

  102. 102 Islesphan25

Slashing 1st to Rolo, then roughing for both

  103. 103 Joe

No one should be able to do that to a goalie, where is freakin Rechlicz?

  104. 104 JT9187

man we seriously have to start burying these

  105. 105 mLem

ya know…for some reason Bailey looks better and is shooting more…strange coincidence lol…and KO…this poor kid, he really needs one to just find its way in the net

  106. 106 Joe NYC

where’s CB during this? no crowd - we better rock the barn tomorrow night..someone needs to take averys head off. Hillen having a GREAT game.

  107. 107 Joe NYC

theses ref’s are horrible. didn’t make the call until he saw girardi crying. that double major to roli was bad too.

  108. 108 misterpink

looked like baileys stick was at least 6 inches away from girardi.

  109. 109 battery jackson

the garden sounds like a funeral tonight. the coliseum was louder than that even after everyone left the other night. the potvin sucks chant is stupid. the dude who whistles is all off tune and off rhythm and everything. idiots

  110. 110 JustinChi

Is there just one guys who does the whistling or a bunch? Is the guy proud of that? Is that what he tells girls when he tries to pick them up? I’ve always wondered about that.

  111. 111 Staten Islander

last year i saw a kid in rags gear wearing a potvin sucks hat,

1, does he even know who potvin was?
2, potvin was retired about 5 years before he was even born
3, if potvin was a ranger, they’d have a statue of him in front of the garden and name a street after him

  112. 112 Joe NYC

roli makes nice head save and these shtty announcers say “accidental lunquist-esk” save…c’mon…roli’s been sharp.

  113. 113 jim

Since when did Rolie go to the Billy Smith School of Goaltending!?

  114. 114 Islesphan25

A lot of empty seats at MSG

  115. 115 Joe NYC

love how aggressive sim is…OK cannot catch a break!!

  116. 116 metalcoconut

Can we just take the stick out of Sims’ hands and let him skate around?

  117. 117 metalcoconut

I think he would be more productive.

  118. 118 Islesphan25

#115, he is snake bit right now, I would watch out when he breaks out of it

  119. 119 battery jackson

anyone notice that they use the islanders goal horn in that hockey night live commercial?

  120. 120 Doug

Poor Okposo. Soooo many chances. He’s had around 4 this game and just can’t catch a break. You can tell he’s going to be a decent goal scorer in the NHL.

  121. 121 Joe NYC

Hillen one of best players on ice tonight and forecheck is working…the system at its best..how many turnovers rags have due to pressure?

  122. 122 Joe NYC

btw anyone else sensing OT coming…

  123. 123 Chris A

Rags don’t deserve a point tonight so no not sensing OT

  124. 124 Islesphan25

    shhhhh….do not udder those words..

  125. 125 Terry19

its official, I hate del zotto, he’s my new most hated ranger!!!

  126. 126 Spartiarti-RVC

isles are outplaying rags. Nielsen breakaway goal would have sealed it.

Hillen playing great. I guess my argument of Hillen vs Gilroy is pretty much over. Gilroy in minors.

Both Rollie and Lundquist have been great.

  127. 127 dmen77

Hunter with the EN goal. This game is going to end 2-0 and Jon Freakin Sim is going to have the GWG!

  128. 128 Islesphan25

    why????

  129. 129 Staten Islander

    no o/t tonight!

  130. 130 Chris A

    YESSSS Comeau

  131. 131 dmen77

I love being wrong! Comeau baby!

  132. 132 JustinChi

Love it. Comeau beats that moron Avery to the loose puck.

  133. 133 Joe NYC

great hands for that rebound! going to get ugly out there now…

  134. 134 cody

    Comeau the Rag killer

  135. 135 Chris A

As much as we have our goal song woes the Rags one is atrocious…we’ll be fine fellow islander countrymen

  136. 136 Joe NYC

as much as i hate it they have a good goal song…

  137. 137 Staten Islander

Great win, lets hope they repeat it last night and hopefully thompson will be ok

  138. 138 Joe NYC

way to hold on…let’s get the next 2pts too. great example of how gordon’s system can work if everyone hustles.

  139. 139 Brother Rat

Hell yeah, way to hang on!!! Whew!

  140. 140 Terry19

del zotto reads his newspaper clippings. He is rejo rottsajainen.

  141. 141 Islesphan25

You knew they were going to score

  142. 142 dmen77

    Great win boys!!!!!

  143. 143 JustinChi

Great work tonight by the entire defensive unit. Rangers had almost no clear chances on rebounds.

  144. 144 Joe NYC

id like del zotto on our team..Hillen #1 star for isles, rolie #2

  145. 145 TimQ

Its nice to be able to say that the Isles are actually a better team than the Rag$

  146. 146 JPinVA

Nice rebound for the good guys. They did what they need to do to win.
It makes you wonder how good they can be if KO and Frans get back to 20+ goal paces.
Comeau and Hillen are playing like they don’t want to be considered afterthoughts anymore. Let’s hope that continues. Hillen has been on a steady progression that normally comes when you mix talent with experience… but COMEAU… man.. this is the guy we’ve seen flashes of for three years. Let’s hope this isn’t a two week Shawn Bates spurt…then Claude Raines.
JJ and Schremp have done a very agood job, but will probably lose their jobs with the returns of Weight and Bergy. They have given the Isles some deeadline options though, and [dead horse coming] some options with guys like Bailey and Tambellini. JJ has been vastly better than Tamby as a PRESENCE in all three zones. He’s still a little tentative, but it seems like he’s just a few good hits, and some goals away from getting the confidence he needs to be a full time NHLer.
Rolly was terrific… so was Lundquist. It would have been nice if Rolly could have gotten the donut. It’s also too bad he didn’t get the full Islander ranger experience (same goes for tavares)… hopefully that will be back if they are fighting for a playoff spot later on… not likely though.

  147. 147 JPinVA

from tv land it seemed like a really lame crowd. Potvin Sucks note; Let’s hope that someday they have a Matt Martin or Travis Hamonic SUCKS chant. We can use 4 more cups and another hall of fame player.
Actually, the Ranger players hated when the crowd did that when denis was playing. Even worse was the, “Denis Potvin beats his wife” chants. Because they knew he was going to take it out on somebody in the corner… not a drunken blue section moron. But I guess they didn’t mind it too much… because while Denis was skating around with Lord Stanley’s Cup, the rangers were skating around with new Sassoon(SP?) jeans.
    OOOH LA LA!
