Really great to see this effort tonight from the boys. After coming off a frustrating loss at the devils, this team played the system perfectly tonight.
How drunk were the dads in the skybox?
-
Moulson is definitely the biggest snag of the offseason.
-
Matty Ice was awesome tonight!! Best game by far for Bruno on the blueline. Andy Mac belongs, Witter might have to hit the press box when Sutton returns. Cant remember the last time we were ahead of the Rangers at this pointof the season. Yeah!!!
-
Islanders currently in the 8 spot. Thats a thing of beauty.
Lets keep the run going. no fading this year -
WOW!! Best game of the season by far. They dominated a high scoring Atlanta team. Rollie was great again and OK is gonna score soon. WOW!! GO ISLES!!
-
You know what?
The NY Islanders no longer suck! -
Gotta give Snow some props for picking up Moulson, The Kings look pretty stupid right now letting him get away! Keep Playing Rollie!! Stay with the hot hand..
-
why, hello down there rangers
-
Had to go out, but I had the game on XM and the Atlanta announcers were GUSHING over the Isles. I LOVE IT!
-
I was watching the Thrashers feed online, and Staten Islander is correct. Since the second half of the second period and until the end, the Thrashers announcers were brown-nosing everything Islanders, from Go-Go, to the system, to BRUNO GERVAIS?!?!, to Matt Moulson and Rollie. It was great.
-
Without a doubt, there best best all around game of the year.
-
Just got home from the game…and wow they were good!!! Rollie was unbelievable on about 5 stops and play was responsible in all zones…Kane, Kovy, Peverley non-existent entire game!!! “Hats off” to Moulson for great game and JT for getting the cheap one!!!
-
Very good game tonight indeed. Keep it up.
-
Couldn’t play a more complete game. The boys looked dynamite. Rolly didn’t even play all that well. If they can get the PP going this team could really be cooking. Can’t say enough about Hunter, he just plays sound hockey. As for Matt Moulson, he is a simple hockey player, no fancy stuff. Gordon has them believing!
-
Matt Moulson is hysterical during interviews.
-
Moulson is very interesting. He plays a very straight-foward game. Nothing fancy, but very focused north-south type player and very intelligent…does the little things. Also, he plays bigger than his size, apower fowards game without the pure toughness. Love him!
-
Missed most of the game but great to hear Moulson Canadian doing work
-
perfect night would i say. and after 28 games the isles have played, they stay in front of the rangers and flyers..can’t believe it but it’s true.
-
what game did u guys watch? rolo had a bad game? the guyy was on all shots.
rolo played a great game..moulson awesome..some defensive mistakes we didnt pay for, good game isles
-
@Hollywood #14 : Rollie didn’t play that well?
he played excellent. he and moulson are the reasons we won this game. he made amazing saves on multiple rebound chances and had great puck control.
-
Park has to quit his “puck hogging” he plays a selfish game and ultimately still does not get a goal. This is a Team Sport Mr.Park.
-
Why is this 4th line on the ice so much when they are all minus players who can’t score? I get it, they work hard and all, Richards parks minus 12 or whatever it is is more important than his work ethic.
-
Matt Trick
-
Moulson Golden
-
i think we need to make a run right now like 6 or 7 out of 10 and we could b in a great spot i hope we can pull it off
-
Matt Moulson = the poor mans Ryan Smyth. Great job by Garth & Co finding another diamond in the rough. Let’s hope the boys can continue to play competive, fun to watch hockey.
-
CB (or anyone else out there), do you know whether Moulson will be a restricted or unrestricted free agent at year’s end? I want to buy a new Islanders jersey and would love to buy a Moulson jersey, but don’t want it to be a one-year rental. Do you think he’ll be with the team next year?
-
We are probably going to hover around .500 this year…big improvement. I think we should trade Marty Biron and a 2nd rounder and like a marginal player for Cam Barker. The Hawks cannot afford him. And then sign a bonafide scorer like Kovalchuk who is a free agent. Then 2010 will be our year. This is the offseason. KO, Tavares, Hillen, Moulson, Bailey all will be a year wiser, with the addition of Dehaan and hopefully someone like Barker (who is only 23 and will help our defense), a sniper like Kovalchuck and we will be a force to be dealt with. Perhaps I dream but so what?
-
Mouloson were excellent tonight. Great game by the whole team. Why didn’t Schremp play? Was it because Neilson wasn’t hurt?
-
The time to sign moulson to a 2 year extension is this month next month the latest before his agent tells him he can test the market. Lets lock this guy up for another two years or trade him for a good player b4 he walks for nothing
-
#25, Moulson is a RFA after this year.
-
check this out… the headline for the daily news on the islander game last night (the story itself is the ap take on it) “John Tavares scores 11th goal, but New York Islanders fall to Atlanta Thrashers”… wow.
-
D-man.. That should be a new low for this publishing. Even editors don’t read this paper anymore.
-
I dont know im glad they won but i couldnt last the 1st to boring no hitting, went to the jet game at 8. Snoozefest 1st period, empty arena. God i hate the “NEW” NHL.
-
Great game last night, so good to see the boys be able to bounce back and not let the losses de-rail them – that is KEY as this team learns to win.
IF they can sneak into a playoff spot even a one round and out may give them just the hunger, drive and expereince they need to make a BIG push next year!!!! -
Jerry#20, in my opinion Rollie was sloppy and out of position. Regardless for whatever reason the Isles get points and win. That’s a great sign!
-
Guys, seriously. It’s Moulson Goalson(or Moulson Goulson). Not Golden. Matt Trick is also acceptable.
PS—I’m very happy that this is the only discrepancy I have with any of the posts. Yeah, baby.
-
In a 4-1 win only a true Isles fan would knock the goalie, and that is not a compliment. The boys played great. JT, MM, and the goalies are the difference from this year to last. Trent Hunter looks great too, he is very involved and is showing that he has soft hands. I hope they can stay healthy. Nice job by Flash too; the boys are really buying in this season and you can tell. I don’t miss Ted Nolan like I did last season. Does anyone think DP’s return could hurt the chemistry? I hope he has been making himself a part of the team and trying to fit in. This is a much different team than two years ago.
-
When the empty net goal was scored with 1 second left, it does not seem the puck got dropped to finish that final second. The teams just headed to their dressing rooms.
Obviously it’s irrelevant to the outcome, but as a matter of procedure in a professional hockey game shouldn’t they have finished the game?
-
Sweet win! Moulson is awesome, plain and simple. I love how he is fearless out there and will go anywhere to score a goal. Plus, he rarely makes a mistake. The rest of the team was great last night too. It was a fun game to watch.
On a side note, that Isles’ goal song poll is horrible. Those are the 4 ‘finalists’?! Where were the others? Those songs are horrible. It’s pretty sad when I think the Nickelback song is the best of the four. They should have had a write-in selection.
-
People say Tavares is slow, but anyone notice how fast he skated blue line to blue line to score the empty net goal before the clock expired?? Why can’t he skate that fast all the time?
-
Isles 2009 No 1. Draft Pick: JT & MM.
If you go on other Hockey websites, you still get folks questioning Tavares as first pick. I disagree straight out, but they also have to consider this fact: the first pick of last years draft brought Tavares and Moulson. I believe without Tavares, you most likely would not have Moulson. My view: Isles first pick was JT & MM. -
Good game. I loved the fact that all 3 of Moulson’s goal where of a different variety. a blast, driving to the net breakaway and the deflection in front. I was looking at the stats of the team and I am not surprised that witt has a bad plus minus especially with his play early in the year but also the checking line or 4th line all have somewhat high minus numbers. Park at -14, Jackman -6 and Thompson -8. I know they do not score a lot which hurts those numbers but they seem somewhat high especially for Park.
-
Regarding the 4th line poor plus/minus, I think some folks here over-rate them also, but to be fair, Park & Thompson play on the PK, but rarely on the PP. That will distort your +/- stats.
-
JoeRiverside:
Nah goals scored against you on the PK and goals you score on the PP do not count toward your plus/minus..
However if you’re on the powerplay, and the other team scores a short handed goal against you – it does. You get a minus.
The opposite is also true. If you score a goal while killing a penalty you get a plus.
-
Best all around play in 2 years. Looks like we are building some real chemistry on this team.
-
It figures………..My best client is in Atlanta, his company owns a suite, I ve gone last 4 years and have missed 1 Isles game in that time. Make that 2
Sucks that I wasnt there yesterday, after all the games Ive attended, but it was great to watch that game. Cant find a damn thing wrong, and thats weird. KEEP IT UP!!! -
Joe +/- dont count on the power play or penalty killing….either way what a great game. Moulson is coming into his own and the isles are cruising. Rollie needs to play until he falters. You need to ride the hot hand.
-
JoeRiverside – actually, playing a lot of PK and no PP would help, not hurt, a player’s +/-. You don’t get a minus for a goal against on the PK. Park’s +/- is hurt a bit by playing on the second PP unit – that doesn’t count as a plus for a player – but far more by not actually scoring.
-
Happy days, another oustanding, hard played-win. Hopefully Garth will stay the course in the rebuild though and people won’t freak when there’s little interest from primo FAs this year.
-
CB – any new talks of the Isles going to the 3rd jerseys full time next year?
-
You know what??? I believe the Isles are in Atlantas heads. The similarities are both teams play with aggressive, offensive, systems.
The differences are, the Thrashers have a plethera of talent including one of the most dominant players in Kovy and the Isles, simply, work allot harder to win. That’s the biggest difference and we got Moulson.
-
Great game for ISLES !!!!!
-
Where are all of the haters of Gordons system? Why wasn’t the team “tired” in the third last night if it was the system that was making them “tired” in the past? When you have never actually played the game you should stay away from making statements about what you THINK is going on and make statements about what you know and what you can actually see with your own two eyes. In turn your posts won’t look ridiculously ignorant when proven wrong. Go go Gordon! Go go Isles!!!!!
-
1) Do we have more Hatricks this year or Empty net goals?
2) Isles save alot of money in futurre due to this year with no All Star Game….MM’s agent probably could have negotiated an extra 500k per year once he was named Isles All Star Rep this year.
3)MacDonald is restricted after this year…..I would like to see alot more of him so Isles can make a decision…..so far he looks pretty good
4)McGuire mentioned on XM that he believes Isles will land a top 6 forward. Who? Isles cannot give up next years #1 until they are far ahead of the bottom 3 teams. Everyone is still way to close (except Carolina) -
Mark P, Ray Whitney is said to be on the market…CB when can the isles begin to talk extension with Okposo and Moulson?…both are defintely in line for long term deals
-
Ray Whitney for a draft pick works for me. He comes off the books at year’s end, and he is owed 2 mill until season’s end. He’d be a nice pickup. I’d want Whitney and Corvo, bot unrestricted FA at year’s end.
-
Great game. Have to start thinking about a Moulson extension for sure.
I don’t normally pimp on-line polls, but Canada’s equivalent to the Drudge Report is running a poll on who Canada’s next Governor General should be. One of the choices is Denis Potvin. Google Bourque Newswatch and you’ll find it. -
# 52 I believe that they are going to use the third jersey full time next year. They wanted to this season but couldn’t cause of the NHL’s agreement with ReeBok or whoever. CB or someone else correct me if I’m wrong. And just to follow up that was truly one of the better game’s that the ISLANDERS have played in a long time. And to the post that said after JT scored the E/N goal they didn’t finish the one second on the clock, I think there less then that and then the time just expired. Just my interpetation of it?
Great to see the Dad’s and mentor’s enjoying them selve’s at the game, this is a great idea by Charles Wang and they all seem to of had a great time.
Let’s keep this up in tampa on saturday night…LETS GO ISLANDERS -
Folks, Thanks for the facts on +/-, wish I knew that in the 12 years my son played on a travel team. They didn’t calc that way and it hurt his +/- as he was on the PK.
-
So, the way the “crowd” (and I use that term looooosely) appeared at the drop of the puck last night, I thought that there had been some sort of natural disaster in Atlanta last night. There were so few people there that crowds supporting my local USHL team put them to shame.
Curious how the attendance in the boxscore exceed ELEVEN THOUSAND. Now a few people did show up as the game went on, but c’mon.
Just my $0.02. A great Isles win after laying an egg on Saturday afternoon.
-
No what stinks, I feel as if this was a regular year, Moulson would have a great chance to make the All Star Game, but w/ the Olympics he has not chance of being recognized for his great year.
-
Great game. That is just why Moulson is effective. Straight north to south player that drives to net. Nothing more to be said.
Great game by isles. I dont know how Roloson does it but it gets done.
what a difference a few NHL goaltenders can make to your record. MacDonald and Danis are not NHL goaltenders.
-
I’m sorry that I couldn’t make the live chat last night … but in a way I savored the victory in enemy territory with a bunch of Devil and Ranger fans!!
Having a former teammate / Rag fan suffer though the Isles’ win was that much sweeter. He actually had ZERO idea who Matt Moulson was … I said so did most Isles fans before training camp.
He said … NO … really who is he? So I gave him the brief history lesson. He’s actually now afraid of the Isles if they get a couple of veteran studs… but then said … nahhhh … nobody wants to play for them.
We’ll see.
-
Great game! I thought after that first goal (someone pick up the pants Witt got faked out of) it was going to be one of those games, but we really stepped it up.
I think the days off helped because we had practice and guys seemed to know what to do and where to be at all times.
Don’t let up! Keep playing hard! We need the Rags looking smaller in our rear view mirror! GO ISLES!!
-
Oh … and about Matty M.
It was awesome to see him score about 30 seconds after I asked the bartender to put up MSG+.
It was also great to see Matty score 3 different ways … versatility.
He’s going to be a stud … one of the greatest finds since the Isles rescued Jason Blake from LA, except we got Matty a few years younger … hmmmmm … so who else does LA have that just needs a lil Isles touch?
-
Touching on #67′s comment, what impressed me the most about Moulson’s performance in Atlanta was not only that he recorded a trick, but that none of the three goals were the same. He showed a heckuva lot of range scoring first on a far-range slap shot, second on a great close-in deke move, and third on a marvelous tip-in where he was parked directly in front of the goaltender — no fear about getting bashed by a d-man. That tip-in was textbook and should be viewed by young hockey players as to how to do it. I’ve loved what Moulson had done up until Atlanta, but against the Thrashers he really showed what a complete player he is. Good stuff for our Isles, and a great job by Snow & Co. picking this kid up.
-
I would rather see them pick up some defensive help, rather than a forward. I think we can get by with what we have. It’s the D that still scares me…Who’s available?

Moulson Golden……again.
Besides Rollie he has been the team MVP!
