6:33 pm – If you thought my Canadiens fans forecast was a hysterical over-reaction, you should see the site at warmups.

Gervais in, healthy Meyer out.

*

11:50 am, NVMC – O-lay, O-lay Fest: If you recall, Habs fans made up half the crowd at an Islanders home game a year ago. When the Canadiens made a wild, successful third period comeback, the Coliseum morphed into the Molson Centre. I’m told as many as 3,000 Canadiens fans have already arrived in the metropolitan area. Especially if the snow drives some of the New Yorkers away, could be another surreal scene tonight.

Figure on Game On: In recent seasons, the Islanders and the NHL have not postponed games here played on days with blizzard conditions and a lot of snow. Two years ago, the Islanders played a game against Phoenix on a weeknight in front of about 1,000 fans braving icy conditions. Six years, the Islanders hosted a Saturday night game against Chicago that I still can’t believe was not postponed. The Islanders were struggling, the Blackhawks were bad and the Islanders wanted the two points. They got them in front of a very small crowd.

Two reasons why tonight’s game will not be postponed. For starters, there are so many Montreal fans that have paid for their tickets and probably unable to return for a makeup game. Then there’s the matter of the game being on Hockey Night in Canada. Check the Islanders’ website during the day for updates. Although the league talks about fan safety, they have been historically hesitant to postpone games.

Markov’s Back: The Canadiens welcome the return of Andrei Markov, their best defenseman. Markov has been out of the lineup since the season opener, when he suffered lacerated tendons when Carey Price’s skate sliced him up. Markov’s return is a few weeks ahead of schedule, but not soon enough for the Canadiens.

Morning Skate Report: Martin Biron starts tonight against Montreal. Tim Jackman skated all-out this morning. Looks like the same forward lines. Blake Comeau was still with John Tavares and Matt Moulson, Josh Bailey still with Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen.

On defense, there’s a chance Bruno Gervais could return. Freddy Meyer was the last defenseman to leave the ice after the morning skate.

DiPietro Speaks: Rick tells Katie Strang that he was just being “precautious,” that “I think that shows I’ve matured a bit,” his leg tightness was unrelated to his surgeries and playing another game in the AHL is up to the organization. So to sum up: DiPietro took himself out of a minor league tuneup eight days ago, didn’t practice with a hockey team for a week after and the Islanders had him see a few specialists. Good to hear this is no big deal.

On Aug. 24, we were also told DiPietro was on schedule and would be a participant in training camp. “I haven’t held my end of the bargain the last couple of years, but this year I’ll be ready,” the goalie said four months ago after I wrote that his return was still a long way off.

  1. avatar Brendan says:

Ok so 3000 habs fans, 30 isles fans.. Going to to be a habs home game

  2. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

I have a bad feeling about Ricky’s condition.

  3. avatar stu says:

Unbelievable if he returns and Meyer sits.

  4. avatar What says:

tough luck for habs fans.. just b/c they bought 3000 tix doesnt mean we should play the game.. its about the safety of our fans… this is our home game.. not theirs… it should be a count of us being able to get there where we have to take individual cars.. not their busload of fans where they dont have to do the driving….

  5. avatar Donna says:

I will be watching from home tonight if the game is on. ? Re DiPietro: when all is well again will he be able to go back to Bridgeport for more conditionin? I thought I read somewhere that he would have to be put on waivers for that to be possible- -not that any team would pick his contract up.. .

  6. avatar chris says:

this is a real downer for me…the one night I have tickets and I doubt I’ll be able to make it if we get as much snow as is projected.

  7. avatar Bryan says:

If we aren’t allowed to complain about the bad television quality on MSG+ then you should not be allowed to talk about Rick DiPietro until he actually comes back.

Not trying to be a jerk but I am so sick of this guy and hearing about this guy and his self important quotes.

Good to hear he thinks he is more mature now.

  8. avatar Bryan says:

Donna – The best thing that could happen to this team would be another team taking his ridiculous contract off of waivers.

  9. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

I have one Habs fan (from Montreal) still sleeping off last night’s fesitivities in my living room. I think my girlfriend is going to transform into one for the night.

  10. avatar Jim Clark says:

Maybe the Islanders should open ticket offices in Montreal and Toronto to sell their fans tickets to NCVMC for when the Islanders play their favorites.

Hopefully the Islanders will play a video of Roger Doucet signing “O Canada” and “The Star Spangled Banner” to help les Quebecois souviens.

  11. avatar Seth says:

so because alot of habs fans who probably won’t be in the area for a makeup game will be a reason why they play this game? who the heck cares about those people when you have ISLANDER FANS that have to drive from our homes to the coliseum and risk our lives. call the game now and set a makeup game. give the habs fan there money back if they don’t want to make the trip down later on. not worth risking anyones life over a hockey game.

  12. avatar steve says:

let Gervais play. Hes played poorly, but its the doghouse, not prison. you get lectured, spanked, and sat. then you get a chance to “get it” right. he played well last season, give him a chance to find his game. if he doesn’t improve, the coach WILL sit him longer term. he has sat other players who didn’t “get it” right.

  13. avatar Scott says:

Yes, how inappropriate for DP to talk about himself after he is asked how he is feeling. I really don’t understand the hostility from some people regarding a player who has shown total loyalty to the organization and made a bad team competitive when healthy. If his body betrays him, there is really nothing he can do but hopefully he gets back and there will be plenty of room on the bandwagon.

  14. avatar What says:

i beleive last year an avs game was PPD due to a blizzard, and a few years ago, florida had to PPD games after a hurricane blew through, and even when they came back they werent even ready tv wise b/c that 1st game back vs the rags had major tv issues…

  15. avatar joe in alberta says:

come it hockey, if the habs fans can come out, isles fans can to, .

  16. avatar chris says:

Well I guess if I lived in Montreal I would take any opportunity to leave and follow a hockey team around too…

  17. avatar Rick says:

#13. he has no choice BUT to be loyal to the franchise – he still has what, 10 years left on his contract?

I don’t believe anything Snow, Gordon, or the Golden Child himself says about his status. If he actually does return (and it’s a big if), he is nothing more then a backup goalie. Relying on him to be your #1 goalie at this point would be insanity.

As for tonight’s game, I’m thinking JT is going to have a good night. Lots of scoring – 5-4 Isles in OT.

  18. avatar mmm22 says:

Hope Biron gets it done tonight, he needs to have a good game.

  19. avatar Chris TMC says:

joe in alberta (15): To be fair, the Habs fans that are already there got there before the storm and for the most part are at the Marriott- which is on the property with the Coliseum. They need only walk over to NVMC. The Isles fans on the other hand did not rent rooms on the premises for the weekend.

  20. avatar dan says:

LETS GO ISLANDERS. I hope they pospone the game. It is going to create a dangerous situation for those who go. If i lived next door I would be there but Nassau county is awful at clearing roads.

  21. avatar Frei says:

Quoth Ricky: “I think that shows I’ve matured a bit”

“A bit too late“, is what he meant to say there.

    Sad but true.

I’m over it, though, because JT is going to be truly awesome.

  22. avatar isles316 says:

I sorta hope they postpone it also, mainly because I won’t be able to handle 3,000 montreal fans being classless in the Isles building. Wang and co SHOULD postpone it for the sake of Islanders fans. Let us come when it isn’t a blizzard. Too bad for Le Habs.

  23. avatar nassaubaby says:

im so tired of hearing about dp, if he returns then he returns, if not he will continue his management position within the isles.
i have no problem with fans coming to visit to watch their fav team play bc i have been that fan in other arenas, however, the point is to keep it classy, everytime habs fans are present they are rude and act as if they need to solify a parade route for the stanley cup that isnt coming anytime soon to montreal, im a season ticket holder, please postpone the game.

  24. avatar JPinVA says:

Why should the NHL cancel the game? Football is going to be played tomorrow regardless. The game is played indoors, and people can get there using mass transit… oh yeah… I forgot.
I used to love the coliseum… but.. ITS TIME HAS PASSED. Move to Brooklyn, and put that site up for re-bid. Then see how fast THE SAVIOR puts the Isles on eBay.
Unless Meyer is hurt Gervais should stay in the press box… and have HIM make some beignet for the boys. Much better than Dunkin Munchkins.
If they continue the effort of the last two games it could be a good one.

  25. avatar IslanderFAN says:

I know all about it..i live in Montreal and those Habs fans even boooed former Habs Guillaume Latendresse who was traded to the Wild not long ago and he was one of the fans favorites…try to figured out the logic of the Habs fans??? ridiculous, now i hearing that Scott Gomez is starting to not like the Montreal pressure from the fans and the media…Habs fans are some of the worst fans in the NHL and they try to make us believe they are the best fans just because the arena is sold out each game and they love Hockey so much…no wonder we lost our baseball team.

  26. avatar ralph says:

please DP, just go away…you don’t matter.

  27. avatar JoeBuck says:

Most of you guys are rediculous with the Dipietro hate. What has the guy done wrong to deserve this hate? Did he offer himself that contract? No, and if any of you guys were offered a guaranteed contract of 15 years at your job, I’m sure each and everyone of you would accept it.
Secondly, he got hurt. It happens, everyone gets hurt. Its part of the game. After numerous surgeries, which believe me as someone who has had to have surgery, rehabbing is probably the worst thing ever. It hurts, and the worst thing is is that you can’t rush it to get back sooner or else you set yourself back. DP has done this countless times in an effort to get back.
The guy is out there busting it and working hard so he can help this team. He knows he’s here for his career. He could just mail it in with his contract, but he keeps working hard to get back. The nerve of some people who keep ripping him baffles me. Sometimes the body gives out, all you can do is work to get back and thats all he’s done.

  28. avatar Candor says:

Ralph, if DP doesnt matter, the whole team doesn’t.Small, mediocre at best, boring. DP, when healthy, is dynamic in and out of crease. He’s paid too much? So are almost every Islander.

  29. avatar Isles44 says:

I really don’t understand all the hate towards DP. This team is not even close to the cap ceiling so his hit means nothing. They also aren’t a team that is going to make a cup run yet. What’s the harm in a potential all-star goalie in his prime years trying to get his career back. If he fails and he gets injured again he’s cap hit will surely come off the books. But just think about the upside, if he makes it back to his all-star form, even if it takes another year or two, by then you will have a young skilled team ready to make a cup run with a world class goalie at a bargain price. Think about it. There is no harm in him trying to return. Only a big payoff if he succeeds. Good luck Rick. I, for one, am pulling for you.

  30. avatar chris says:

@24–There are 16 football games, so it is impossible to reschedule them. There are 82 hockey games. If the weather is this bad, it should be postponed.

  31. avatar art says:

MY argument is not with DP or his contract. The issue is the the lack of candor by the medical staff and team about his condition. This is pro sports and privacy is not part of the picture. The past is the past-the fans deserve to know whats really going on and I believe we are still in the dark.

  32. avatar Islander says:

#27 – Joe Buck, you truly put things in the perspective! DP did not ask to get hurt, infact no player likes to get hurt. He is doing as the doctors want him to do; he has a lot of playing years left. Give him and all the rest of the players some folks constantly pick on..a BREAK!

  33. I hate going to the game when its all Canadiens…
I’ll be there Monday, hoping for a good win.
Can’t believe Bruno is in over FMIV…weird.

Be safe everyone who is going tonight!

  34. avatar tommy G says:

DP’s condition relates well to Philosophers Pascal Pragmatic Argument
    Pascals Wager
-Believe DP will return, and hes does, many years of happiness
-Believe DP will return, he does not, loose nothing
    VALUE- GAIN ALL LOOSE NOTHING
    Or one can wager against
-Believe DP will not return, he does, years of feeling idiotic
-Believe DP will not return, he does not, gain nothing
    VALUE- LOOSE ALL GAIN NOTHING
So if you wanted to logically correct and be a true islanders fan, BELIEVE!

  35. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Please no more Geravis ever! Send him to Bridgeport and let him cook for the prospects, so they can bulk up.

  36. avatar stevedepot says:

No offense ot anyone, but spelling is a pet peeve.

    “Lose”: To fail to win.
    “Loose”: Not fastened.
Don “Luce”: A heck of a center who played the majority of his career with the Buffalo Sabres in the 70′s.

I wonder if Meyer is hurt or if they want Bruno righty stick on defense.

  37. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

isles have to win this one. this is another team chasing a playoff spot. I hope Biron brings a good game. I have no complaints to how the isles are playing. thurs game was lost by Roloson and Lundquist superb play.

  38. avatar Blizzard says:

….man I would love to send the Habs fans home empty handed. I hope Marty steps up tonight. Also look for JT to get on the score sheet again its been a few games. Also going to be interesting how Bruno responds tonight.

  39. avatar admin says:

If you thought my Canadiens fans forecast was a hysterical over-reaction, you should see the site at warmups…CB

  40. avatar admin says:

    Gervais in, healthy FMIV out…CB

  41. avatar Jim Clark says:

We can’t even get the pregame on msg+ as this tenn vs USC hoops game has 4 minutes to go.

  42. avatar What says:

hey CB, we arent seeing the pregame coverage.. were watching a blowout out of state college bball game that they wont leave for local coverage for…

  43. avatar TuxTax says:

I would like to check it out on the Isles Pre-Game…oh wait another Cablevision gaffe…must be a mistake that a PAC10 blowout college basketball game is more important than my NY Islanders…

  44. avatar Jeff in Oyster Bay says:

I am pissed that this b-ball game is on over the Isles pregme, I HATE CABLEVISION

  45. avatar nystrom23 says:

Cb its absurd alll habs fans I might be the only isles fan here

  46. avatar Staten Islander says:

Time Warner here has the same thing, this is STUPID!

  47. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

I know nothing about the Isles and their TV contract, but is there ANY chance they can be picked up by SNY and then Cablevision in my house can be history?? All 9 local teams in HD my a$$ CHUCKY!

  48. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Friend at the game “WOW! there are a lot of Habs fans here”

And he goes to about 30 Islanders games and we travel for games.

  49. avatar isles316 says:

CB isn’t kidding. isles fans out numbered at least 2-1.

  50. avatar Tony F. says:

Its bleeping ridiculous the amount of hab fans here, its like 10 to 1. If I hear any more french I’m going to wretch.

  51. avatar TuxTax says:

Crowd looks a little red :(

  52. avatar Rob says:

Isles need to get on a winning streak, we need our Capt back, asap! Enough of this win 1 lose 1 garbage.

    LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!

  53. avatar Rob says:

Lets not sit here at our PC’s complaining about the turn out, lol….

  54. avatar Willis says:

LOL on the DiPietro stuff, but I DO wish him well as its in all of our best interests.
I was at that game a couple of years ago – Women in heels I think it was called, Isles broke their losing streak and Tambellini had a nice goal. Took 2 and a half hours to get there but we had a lot of fun!
I hope the boys get the 2 points tonight but nothing’s gonna spoil my mood…snow falling outside my window, cookies in the oven, presents getting wrapped and a glass of wine in my hands. I’m good!

  55. avatar RD says:

Wow! Meyer out and Gervais in! Lucky us! They both stink! Get off your butt, Garth, and get this team some help.

We could easily be a playoff team with another vet d-man and forward. Nobody cares about the draft picks! Make the deals!

  56. avatar Never wintnessed a Cup says:

Taveras would will have a great game as soon as KO is back ion his line to make him better and thats a sign of a great player. KO makes others around him better

  57. avatar RD says:

Sucks for the Canadiens fans. Sorry they wasted their time and money traveling into a blizzard to see a loss.

  58. avatar JACQUES says:

    OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE

  59. avatar JJ says:

I’d also like to see KO back on the 1st line with Moulson and Tavares. That line seems incomplete and much less effective without KO.

  60. avatar miket239 says:

    Biron blows wet gorilla.

  61. avatar JustinChi says:

Biron 1-6-0 with a 3.69 GAA in last 8 games. Seems like a great guy but he is one of the worst goalies in the league this season going strictly by numbers.

  62. avatar James says:

It is very sad that Isles fans are outnumbered in their own arena. Sorry but on a Saturday night, and the one before Christmas, this one is on the fans

You cannot under any cirumstances have your fans outnumbered when you are at home!!

  63. avatar justin says:

This is nothing in terms of snow…..in the mid 90′s they played in full blown blizzards with about 1000 people at the game. Go isles…..

  64. avatar bryan says:

Thompson misses another golden scoring chance… Im convinced he’d miss an open net if he got the chance, oh wait

  65. avatar JT9187 says:

seriously bruno, get a shot through, are you ******* kidding me

  66. avatar JustinChi says:

Tampa had lost 4 straight when they beat us recently and Philly had lost 5 in a row when they won on Dec. 8. Montreal enters this game with 5 straight losses…I’m hoping this trend doesn’t continue.

  67. avatar r says:

This is why Long Island doesn’t deserve an NHL team, storm or not it’s a disgrace.

  68. avatar Jim Clark says:

I refuse to apologize for not driving 30 miles in a snowstorm over improperly plowed roads amonst people who don’t know how to drive in snow. My possible health is not worth the risk.

  69. avatar JJ says:

Another mostly dominating period by the Islanders. Another PP goal allowed. Another failure to put the puck away.

For all the talk about how poor our defense has been, where in the world has our offense gone? Everyone’s slumping; we’ve only scored 11 goals in our last 7 games. This is becoming a problem.

  70. avatar JustinChi says:

This is the offense I expected, only Moulson’s season has prevented the Isles from being the worst offensive team in the league – again. Afinogenov would’ve been a nice signing, guy is tearing it up in Atlanta.

  71. avatar What says:

biron can not be blamed for his junky record.. its the team effort in front of him where the team just does not score goals when he plays.. the only times the isles scored more than 2 goals in front of biron were his only 2 wins… how do you win a game scoring only 1 goal for him?

  72. avatar Never wintnessed a Cup says:

Man, if only KO would get his scoring touch, would take pressure off JT and Moulson.

Need a another finisher besides JT, KO is the man…

  73. avatar SufferingSince'93 says:

Putting KO back with JT and MM could help with the offensive drought. But what do we know? We are just the fans who watch every game. I’m starting to think if we got Hall, Gordon would somehow rationalize why he shouldn’t be playing with either KO or JT.

  74. avatar Willis says:

What Jaffe just said is exactly what I was thinking – why are they all shooting at his chest???? It doesn’t make sense.

And not to call out my fellow fans but some of you need to grow a pair. Keep enough room in front of you so you can stop without hitting anyone, don’t brake while on a turn, and drive slowly and steadily. It’s a freaking inch or two of snow and the salters have been on it since before it started. Where is your sense of adventure, people??!!

  75. avatar Islesin2010 says:

Bruno Gervais has been the biggest disappointment. His degression from last year has really taken me by surprise. He’s useless out there and his lack of confidence couldn’t be more apparent. Taking him out of the press box was a mistake, he isn’t ready to play against NHLers. He was on the ice for the PP goal, and turned the puck over before Pacciaretti almost made it 2-0. What happened to this kid and his once bright future??

    Okay enough of that rant.

  76. avatar RobC says:

Ya know what, Comeau can really be a difference maker when he’s playing physical.

  77. avatar Doug says:

Lots of shots right in the chest of Halak during the first.

  78. avatar Terry19 says:

    you mean REgression?

  79. avatar Willis says:

*Then again, I’m not from Long Island, and now that I think about it, the last time I drove in during a snowstorm I remember thinking those LI’ers were some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen. So maybe I’ll cut y’all some slack. Just a tiny bit.

  80. avatar RobC says:

Nielson misses a backhand pass to Hunter while he was right in front of the net!!Feels like KO will never score another goal!

  81. avatar jacques says:

    OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE..OLE

  82. avatar Zarley Z says:

Did neilsen bet the Habs?? Two golden chances in front and he passes the puck off instead..

  83. avatar gino says:

well since it seems that garth is not gonna do a thing about this teams weaknesses,if we lose tonight can we start talking about who is staying and who is going at the trade deadline.

  84. avatar mtrico says:

I am at the game, and this is torture.

  85. avatar JJ says:

I’ve stayed positive all season, but things are beginning to fall apart. Can’t score, can’t PK, can’t score on the PP.

This team is going to be bottom five in the league again. I guess we’ll get another top pick

  86. avatar JustinChi says:

What this team does at the deadline…probably trades one player for a 3rd or 4th-round pick. Markov is no dummy, he was out since Oct. 1 and picked the perfect game to return for.

  87. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

    Islanders’ special teams are horrible.

  88. avatar Doug says:

Yet again, no 5 on 5 offense from the Isles. By the way, gotta love when my posts are deleted on Jon Sim, yet troll boy Jacques can run his mouth.

  89. avatar Alfred says:

    Tonights payrolls:

    Montreal Canadiens: $56,000,000
    NY Islanders: $44,000,000

Does anyone know who Mr. Wang is saving all of this room under the cap for?

  90. avatar RobC says:

I feel bad for Biron…They dont score for him

  91. avatar Terry19 says:

Streit has a hurt shoulder, thats why he doesnt shoot on the pp.

  92. avatar gino says:

and what would it take for garth just to pick up the damn phone and get a late round pick for tambellini and give him an oppurtunity somewhere else. yes,he should be playing.

  93. avatar RJS says:

Enough with the Gervais bashing. I guess he was to blame for the Ranger loss the other night while sitting in the press box? Tonight horrible mistakes by Hillen (resulting in a goal on pp) and McDonald (Habs PP) – where’s the rage there? Gervais is solid and doesn’t get hurt like the other d-men. He is not the problem.

  94. avatar Tyler09 says:

Once again I have to hand it to the Islanders sales team. I am constantly amazed that they are able to sell ANY tickets at all, and yet their salepeople seem to be able to get 5,000 in the Coliseum tonight.

Yes, some tickets may have been sold to Montreal fans, but really, with this team as the product, it is miraculous they get anyone to actually spend their limited entertainment $$$ to see them play.

  95. avatar BringBackNyles says:

It is amazing…since we are on HNIC tonight on the NHL Channel, their preegane included a piece about tavares, Weight and Moulson. Our pregame was a college basketball game and Al Truatwig telling us how great the Rangers goalie was today.

Then Deb killed time (her words) by talking about the Wilds equipment truck fire.

And they wonder wehy the fanbase is shrinking

  96. avatar Donna says:

Not fun to watch, maybe Garth should look into signing Halak, Howie says he’s looking to be traded. I say we can never have enough goaltenders. .especially with dp still questionable and biron for all his likeability not a good fit.

  97. avatar ken says:

I thought Gervais played his best game of the season against the rangers. :)

  98. avatar Staten Islander says:

Halat is playing really well tonight, same as Lundquist the other night. They’re getting chances, they just haven’t gone in

  99. avatar WM says:

BringBankNyles — you are 100% correct.
The Islanders are no longer relevant — haven’t been for many years now. Should they move from LI, it would be met with one collective yawn.

  100. avatar gino says:

#92-solid?! solid?! yeah,if street cones were solid he’d be the sturdiest one on the ice. marc andre bergeron without the scoring

  101. avatar JustinChi says:

Halak always dominates the Isles. He’s won four straight against them, allowing four goals. Most of the Isles’ chances don’t go in because they have such limited skill.

  102. avatar Biggie says:

3 nice saves by Halak is about it. We have no offense. They waste about 30 seconds every powerplay ‘setting’ it up aka playing in our own zone. Brutal.

  103. avatar isles09 says:

I’m here. This is not good. Need a major comeback.

  104. avatar Biggie says:

Also….our best player tonight is plekanic (sp). He’s singlehandedly trying to help us

  105. avatar hollywood says:

have we seen enough from Joensu, he has been horrible. Gordon, please play the best offensive players together. that includes Tambellini. I can’t take the stupidity, wake up. please sit park move thompson to center with Comeau and Sim. Park is getting worse every shift.

  106. avatar jimb says:

#96 I totally agree, anyone who thinks Gervais is solid is…yea i don’t know what they are thinking. Yea he’s not soley to blame for any loss, but now is the time in the year where you have to look at your roster and see who really isn’t making the bar…gervais is falling way short making mistakes in almost every hockey game. He has had his fair chance to develop and it is the same story every year. Time to give another youngster a try, and part ways with this guy.

  107. avatar IslanderFAN says:

Something has to be done with Mark Streit again hes horrible, hes the biggest disappointment….5 millions per year unbelieveable!!!

  108. avatar Willis says:

That’s funny, I could have sworn Gervais was hurt part of last season. AND the season before. AND the season before…

  109. avatar jimb says:

Mark Streit’s biggest issue is his strange tendency to move sloth like on the powerplay when carrying it through the neutral zone…i can’t believe the coaching staff can watch him do that game after game after game…

  110. avatar BringBackNyles says:

99 you are right, I would be devastated and the good folks that post here would be, but in the general scheme of things, it would be a story for a week and then people would move on. The ratings are non exsistent, and the crowds are shrinking.

I think the Lighthouse as planned is dead in the water. The Brooklyn idea sounds sexy, but I’ll believe that when a shovel hits the dirt.

  111. avatar IslanderFAN says:

Yeah blame Gervais but hey lets keep in the lineup Brendan Witt whos Minus 19 or 20.

  112. avatar jimb says:

If you think people should stop bashing Gervais, and that the Islanders should give him more time…please tell me what you see in his game that you really like? What benefit does he bring?

  113. avatar Lord Al says:

HNIC round table 2 int said Wang has had it wants to sell Islanders NHL said nothing to it round table said that something is up

  114. avatar isles316 says:

CB, did the isles give any thought to signing dean mcammond? that would have been a big upgrade from nate thompson. thompson plays hard and I respect him but come on..

  115. avatar gino says:

hnic hot stove report just said that report is that wang is fed up and looking for buyers

  116. avatar O.Bender says:

Hotstove stuff from HNIC, Elliotte Friedman mentioned there’re rumblings Wang is ready to sell the team. NHL is denying it. Considering the source, it’s probably true.
Sorry to make anyone worry or excited.

  117. avatar gino says:

    absolutely pathetic

  118. avatar mLem says:

Streit is 4th on the team in points, maybe he is hurt, but I think people are grasping for new excuses sometimes…Also I believe a lot of this teams issues would be solved by a top 6 scorer and a top 3 D man…not saying it’s any small order, but things could be much worse

  119. avatar What says:

Attendance 7,842 at Nassau Coliseum really means 4,000 Isles Fans

  120. avatar Paul says:

111…They are not going to set the 3 million/year….they sit one of the least paid players on the team.

  121. avatar joe in alberta says:

office memo, broolyn, fort never lose, is fort dont show up, bitch complain, 30000 candaiens show upsad stoem in long island, peoploe take a body check,

  122. avatar matt says:

please, please, please move this team to an area that actually has hockey fans…these Long Island pseudo-fans with their bizarre sense of entitlement are making me sick. This organization is a disgrace to the NHL from top to bottom, fans included.

  123. avatar Steven says:

I cannot blame Wang for being fed up. Something has got give soon.

  124. avatar RobC says:

One thing we isles CAN”T whine about its our guys EFFORT….They aren’t losing do to any “lack of effort”, not that its a consolation….Just simple fact that the team needs more scoring touch

  125. avatar What says:

ok then 119, that means the nhl has to move the pens, preds and yotes since they all dont/didnt draw flies.. due to bogus ownership issues

  126. avatar Dan says:

they are playing well but they just cant finish for……………..

  127. avatar Lord Al says:

The talk of this move now that it was on HNIC hot stove Wang will have to talk now that it’s been reported

  128. avatar JustinChi says:

Yet somehow Dean McAmmond has finished twice tonight for the Devils. Unbelievable.

  129. avatar jimb says:

So is there any truth to Wang really wanted to sell the team?

  130. avatar Biggie says:

This team is awful. Another top 3 pick. Might as well leave and suck somewhere else.

  131. avatar jacques says:

    ole…ole…ole…ole…ole…ole…ole…ole…ole…ole

  132. avatar JustinChi says:

But isn’t another high draft pick part of the “plan?” If they really wanted to be a playoff team this season, they would’ve signed someone like Afinogenov and another d-man.

  133. avatar Lord Al says:

HNIC realy do not BS about this stuff …

  134. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Now they are singing the goodbye song to us. The Islanders deserve this, for makin gthis a rip off premium game to begin with.

  135. avatar VancouverIslesFan says:

where was this goaltending from Biron when it actually mattered? Where is the penalty kill? We have a better chance of giving up a goal than killing the penalty. That’s coaching. Fix it.

  136. avatar JKP on LI says:

When you score zero goals, the PK and goalie are not the issue.

  137. avatar gino says:

jimb #125- just repeating what was reported on hnic hot stove report. didn’t say if there was anyone interested in buying. just said wang was fed up and looking to sell.

  138. avatar isles316 says:

the only people that can change what’s going on is us, the fans. we have failed miserably. I’m at the game now and this shouldn’t happen. if we want this team to stay, start coming to games. I’ve been to every game plus 2 road games so I have a right to say this. come on guys, the rumblings on hnic scare me and they should scare you.

  139. avatar Willis says:

Boy, for a while we were getting scoring from everyone. Now we’re getting it from no one. Why?

  140. avatar Islesin2010 says:

Another weird game. Reminded me a lot of the Ranger game. I thought the boys played with a lot of heart and kept working up until that 3rd goal. At the end of the day they just couldn’t beat Halak who was very good, and the special teams was the difference. One thing I have noticed is the puck movement on the PP is incredibly slow.

One of the things I take out of this game that really makes me happy is the fact that this team is competitive, and fun to watch. Even if they don’t win, which I wish they could do more often, it’s enjoyable to watch them play and the forecheck seems to be getting better each game.

  141. avatar Mike for Philly says:

Can we please get this organization out of Uniondale ASAP. This franchise is a running joke, the Islanders cannot get to Queens or Brooklyn fast enough.

  142. avatar James says:

#138, these fans wont do anything, they will hid behind the bad economy and not go to games; then blame Snow, Wang and TOH for not doing everything possible to keep the team.

Tell me would it be a smart move to keep a team in a place where their own fans are outnumbered in a Saturday night game? The fans dont care anymore, and they are sure showing it now. This team has fought its tail off all season long and are doing better than expected. If the Isles leave the New York area, to me there is no one else to blame but the fans

Sorry to say it, but the truth hurts

I also have a right to say this because I live in Florida, so I cannot go to games. If I lived up there, you bet I would try and go to as many games as possible.

  143. avatar BringBackNyles says:

No offense, I am not driving through a blizzard to see the Islanders play a game that was only played because it was being shown on HNIC. This game could have easily been moved to tomorrow afternoon or played this afternoom when they got yesterdays forcast.

There is a blizzard warning in effect, nice of the Islanders to cancel the open practice tomorrow out of concerns for fan safety, as they play tonight in the teeth of the storm.

    Hoepfully, they plowed the lots

  144. avatar Lord Al says:

Well HNIC said that there is talk of moving the PHX to Saskatoon so Hamilton is still looking

  145. avatar James says:

And the Blizzard excuse is a lame one too because about 4,000 Habs fans managed to make it to the game despite the Blizzard

Kinda sad that the visiting teams has more fans than the home team

  146. avatar Walt says:

Is every goalie the Isles face a current or future all star? This team is lame and will be in the bottom five once again. My apologies to anyone that went to the game.

  147. avatar Lance79 says:

People, it’s a game against Montreal in December with a blizzard on the way and neither team in the playoff hunt. If our fans could get bused to the game in 22 coaches I’m sure we’d have outnumbered their people easy.

The team is certainly trying but this loss is just another part of the rebuild. I think if we’d started the season talking about still being within 5 points of a playoff spot by Christmas I think we’d have thrown a parade. Of greater concern to me is JT going cold the last few games – anyone else worried that he’s hitting a wall?

  148. avatar mLem says:

No, rookies will hit walls…the wall isn’t the problem if he really is hitting one, it’s how he handles it and thus far he hasn’t given us any reason to believe he won’t climb it…19 year old kid playing the highest level of hockey on a team where he is the #1 center and leads in goals as well as overall points

  149. avatar isles316 says:

Point is, there were 4,000 tickets available for them to do so. That doesn’t happen in most other arena’s.

  150. avatar Jeff says:

Let me say my piece. I am also disappointed in the fans as well. It was diffficult driving yesterday, especially back from the game, stuck on highway for 3 hours due to an accident on highway. I bought a Flex 20 plan this year as time and money are a little limited, because the team drafted Tavares and claimed that he made ticket sales increase. I show up when I can, and especially against the Rangers when you know times are tough in your building, The way to do it is buy them when they go on sale so we can outnumber Rangers fans in the building. I will not be at the next Islanders Rnagers game at home because (this is the second time the NHL schedule has done this to me the last few years), is play this game on the second night of Passover! But besides this, I am always in the building when I Know times will be tough. We have to toughen up as fans if we want the team to stay. We cannot be outnumbered in our own arena. Any team that is can say has a weak fan base. And yes, there are way too many fans hiding out, blaming GM, owner, bad moves, bad economy, etc. on their reason for not showing. Unfortunately, these will be the first fans out when the team is great (if they ever become great again) and will cause some hard core fans like myself who cannot afford to have season tickets, to be screwed over and not have as good of seats when the team is good!

  151. avatar Jeff says:

I also would like to know what happened to the number of fans that bought plans after Tavares was drafted. If there really was an influx of ticket revenue from Tavares, the attendance at the Coliseum should be a lot greater than the numbers are showing.
