SOURCE: ISLANDERS LOOKING FOR A DMAN

Botta/Schultz on FanHouse: Silence in the Trade Market
10:20 am - A league source tells Point Blank that Islanders general manager Garth Snow has contacted NHL teams in search of a mobile and experienced defenseman.
“Garth is asking around, trying to make something happen,” said the source. “His biggest obstacle is that a lot of teams are looking for the same thing.”
The Islanders play in Philadelphia tonight with a thin blue line. Radek Martinek is out for the season. Andy Sutton (groin) could return on Saturday for the home match with Boston, but is out tonight and tomorrow. Bridgeport recall Andrew MacDonald is getting 12 minutes a game, while veteran defenseman Brendan Witt is at a team-low minus-15 and only played 11 minutes Saturday in Tampa Bay. Other than Dustin Kohn in a pinch, the Sound Tigers do not have a defenseman knocking on the door.
NHL defensemen that could be available and fit the Islanders’ low-cost needs - in terms of the acquisition price of a mid-round draft pick - include Carolina’s Joe Corvo (injured), Aaron Ward, Toronto’s hard-hitting but mobility-challenged Garnet Exelby and - in a salary dump but a long shot to return - Chicago’s Brent Sopel. Corvo and Ward would be sound acquisitions.
(Trivia note: in his 40 days on the job, Islanders GM Neil Smith tried to sign Ward, but - oh, the irony - was out-bid by the Rangers).
Teams also in the hunt for defensemen include the Rangers and Columbus.
With little action in the NHL trade market, the Islanders will probably have to get by through the holidays with the blue line they have. The best option passed through their hands when Los Angeles snatched Randy Jones off re-entry waivers from Philadelphia last month. The 28-year old Jones is 4-5-9 in 12 games and is playing more than 20 minutes a game since joining the Kings - all for well below the league average salary.
While the Islanders unearthed a hidden AHL gem in Matt Moulson, they did not make the most of their early position in the waiver pecking order and $17 million of cap space (it can’t all got to Kovalchuk!). The Islanders did take Rob Schremp, who has watched more hockey games from the press box lately than Peter Botte.
For depth on defense, the Islanders may have to scour the AHL ranks for a veteran stop-gap. San Jose/Worcester defenseman Joe Callahan, who was solid in 18 games with the Islanders last season, is available.
Snow is doing what good GMs do - dropping lines in the water, as he calls it. Although he probably will not land a defenseman this week, he is laying the groundwork for a potential deal in February. The way the Islanders have continued to find ways to win this season, it should not be too late.

PB on NHL Home Ice Tonight: I’ll be on with Jim “Boomer Gordon” on Sirius/XM NHL Home Ice beginning at 6:00 pm talking about tonight’s game and all things Islanders.
Tonight’s Lineup: Martin Biron in net tonight, Dwayne Roloson gets an encore in Toronto on Wednesday. Same forward lines and D pairings.
As if the Islanders’ D is not having enough trouble staying healthy, Katie Strang tweeted this morning that Brendan Witt was hit by a car in Philadelphia. This being a hockey player - this being Brendan Witt - he will play tonight.
As expected, Jeremy Reich has cleared waivers. He’s a good addition to the Sound Tigers and could be a solid toughness call-up for the Islanders.
For the Flyers, Ray Emery has been placed on IR. Brian Boucher starts. The Flyers are also missing Simon Gagne, Blair Betts and Darroll Powe. Consistent with his slumping team, Jeff Carter has just one goal in his last 11 games - count on one tonight. James van Riemsdyk is goal-less in nine games, or around the time FanHouse wrote him up as one of John Tavares’s top competitors for the Calder.
Lavi Thanks LI: Flyers coach Peter Laviolette tonight meets the first franchise to give him a shot as a head man. “The Islanders are always going to have a special place in my heart,” the Stanley Cup-winning coach told Point Blank. “They gave me my first opportunity when I had no idea if one would ever come. We made great friends on Long Island, friends we have to this day. The fans were wonderful to my family. We loved our time with the Islanders and will always be thankful to Charles Wang for everything he did for us.”
DP Progress: Rick DiPietro continues on the road back in Bridgeport. The goalie took the full practice with the Sound Tigers yesterday and stayed late for extra shots. He’s practicing again today.”I feel good,” he said. Next up: Friday in Springfield or Saturday in Hartford, followed by - if his knee continues to hold up - a home game a week from tonight against Portland. If DiPietro has no setbacks, gets in NHL game shape and sharpens his play, he will return to the Islanders in the middle of next week.
With everything going so smoothly in DiPietro’s protocol, a year later it continues to astound that the Islanders never had him start his rehabilitation slowly last season with games in Bridgeport.
Point Blank Night Tomorrow: It’s a lock - we’ll have our biggest crowd yet on Wednesday night when PB Night moves to SOCIAL, across the street from the Coliseum. Islanders vs. Toronto at SOCIAL on a dozen screens. Guests: Steve Webb, Deb Placey. Free buffet and $1 Bud drafts from 7-8 pm. Complimentary shots after each Islanders goal. Free raffle for all. All ages welcome, 21 and over to drink. SOCIAL is at 1002 Hempstead Turnpike across from the Coliseum. PLEASE RSVP (YESSES ONLY) AT THIS LINK. I’m also on Facebook. Don’t miss it.
Kinger Gets the Play-by-Play: Since the game is on Versus and there’s no Plus broadcast to simulcast, Chris King will do the honors on the Islanders Radio Network. Last I heard, he’s doing the game all by himself. A color commentator would be nice, but if anyone can do pull off the play-by-play and keep the listener informed, it’s Kinger.
Deep Thoughts: As good as Atlanta has been, the Islanders are just four points behind them. As bad as Toronto has been, the Maple Leafs are now just four points behind the Islanders.
Score-O!: Predict the score (and the winner) of tonight’s game in Comments.
I’ll be away on assignment. Kevin Schultz of NHL FanHouse and Barry Melrose Rocks will stop by for tonight’s tilt.

Please Wait

It is going to be ugly tonight for us. It is like the perfect storm building up. We are awful against philly, they have lost badly recently, new coach hired and they have not won under him plus did I mention we are awful against philly?
I say a 5-2 loss and we will be lucky to get the two goals.
I am happy I don’t have versus and I can focus on studying for finals.
Don’t get me wrong, I hope the Islanders win but I just don’t see it tonight. I hope they prove me wrong.
If isles can get any servicable dman they are in a good position to make a bit of a surge coming home soon. 11 home games outta the first 31 played after tomorrow, and to be in the position they are has some good possiblities. My prediction tonite (unfortunately) 4-2 flyers
I wanted Randy Jones when he was on waivers, but the cold hard truth is that these guys are on waivers for a reason. For every Rich Peverly, there are 20 Rob Schremps or Jamie Riverses that never make an impact. We could use a D-man, and with the waiver wire heating up you could see a smaller move on that side, too.
Oh, and I go 4-3 Isles in OT. Flyers will be more motivated but Isles will be ready after such a poor outing in Tampa.
CB - Any chance Atlanta would swing a deal such as Biron for Valabik? Atlanta has always been shaky in goal. Even though Pavalec hasnt been awful and Hedberg is alright I think the franchise in desperate need of the playoffs would be better with Biron.
Valabik is a 1st round pick from a few years back still to crack the lineup full time but has a ton of size.
I know we need DP to prove he is ready but maybe a trade for the new year?
Thanks.
I would love that trade. We need size badly!
I also would not give up any draft picks for this year. No reason we are not good enough where we need 2. We should have gotten Jones on waivers.
isles 4, flyers 2. empty net goal by bergy.
3-2 Isles. With the heart stopping five minutes of chaos in the third.
6-2 Isles. Hat trick for JT.
This is a total joke that with Direct TV, i cannot watch this game tonight. I can’t be more upset, I have small kids and can’t go out to a bar. Would the NFL, NBA or MLB EVER have something like this happen, where a game is not shown in a home market? I’m infuriated by this.
we should have grabbed jones. i was surprised that we passed on him when we did. chris, are you hinting that we could make a run at kovalchuck in july? 3-2 isles in ot tonight.
It’s really good to hear that Garth isn’t ignoring the fact that our blueline is thin and he’s actively looking for a player. That being said, I can’t see anything happening before the holiday roster freeze at the end of the month. Although, if Garth can swing something before then, I’d be very pleasantly surprised.
For tonight’s game, I think it’s going to be a tough task but I see us coming out on top. Isles 4 - Flyers 2. Hunter with two goals. JT with one and Okposo with a big goal. Time for KO to snap out of his funk with a big game in Philly tonight.
LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!!!
i dont have versus (directv) besides going to a bar anyway to watch this online?
CB,
Hendricks Hockey posted on their website that Aaron Ward was available. He only has one year contract at $2.5, the Islanders could probably get him cheap. He’s got size, 1 year contract…he might be the guy to get.
Tonight’s score Flyers 5-2 they don’t play well in Philly and the Flyers are coming off a lose…but I hope I’m wrong.
I only want to add that if the Islanders do win tonight, in my opinion, it would show that the Islanders are for real and should be in the mix as a playoff bubble team.
As if the Lakers are not having enough trouble staying healthy, some twitterer tweeted this morning that Ron Artest was hit by a car in Philadelphia. This being an NBA player - this being Ron Artest - he pulled out his glock and shot the driver 43 times.
5-2 Flyers…gonna be a rough one.
Toronto is not completely terrible, at least on offense, but Gustavsson is unproven at best and Toskala is struggling. Even Carolina just won back-to-back, so anyone can string together a fair stretch of hockey. (What, 26 of the 30 teams are “.500″ or better in the NHL.) In the end, though, I’m pretty sure the Isles will finish ahead of them, especially if they can stay afloat during this stretch without Sutton.
TO keeps losing in OT, however. Under the old rules they’d actually be six points behind the Isles. They get an extra two-and-a-half wins’ worth of points on games they lost. Pity points suck out loud.
I like the idea of Biron to Atlanta, especially if they feel like they can’t advance with Pavelec.
LET’S GO ISLANDERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5-2 Flyers
I thought Corvo was out 8-12 weeks with a lacerated leg?
How about trying to acquire Cam Barker? He is still only 23 and would not hurt the rebuild.
I guess we should have kept Erskine around on the cheap, especially with our history of injured D-men.
Ilses 2 - Philly 0 tonight.
Isles 2 Philly 1
I predict the Isles will win 4 - 2:
Tavares and Bergenheim will score. Nik Hagman will score for the Leafs. That’s all my psychic powers are telling me for now.
Wait that’s my psychic powers for tomorrow:
For tonight, 5-4 Isles. Okposo will have 2 points.
lol Ethan k. I actually loled.
Cam Barker will come at a high price. He is young, and he is very good. The problem is, the Blackhawks are a really good team and don’t need much from us. Huet has been solid for them, and in the rare occasions he’s been put in net, Niemi has been great too.
At the time Randy Jones was put on waivers I wanted the Islanders to grab him. I have a friend who is a huge Flyers fan and he said he was a salary dump,
that he could play and he was right. He is playing great with the Kings and really helping them. I just hope Garth doesn’t panic and do something he will later regret. Do we need help on defense, yes but don’t get nuts unless it also helps us in the future. I have a feeling we in for a tough night, but I hope I’m wrong. Flyers 5 Isles 2.
As I wrote in the article, Corvo is injured. He suffered a severe laceration to his leg. He will return to the lineup in February, which is when most deals are going to happen…CB
Say no to Sopel! He badmouthed the Isles when they showed him the door the last time.
4-3 Isles over Philly. Hopefully the Flyers are still trying to catch up to Lavi’s “system.”
3-1 Isles beat Flyers. Philly looked terrible against Montreal and haven’t had enough practice time to understand Lavs system. Briere complained of being tired in the 3rd period against Habs under a go-go type of system.
Who was driving the car Ray Emery?
I’m glad Snow is searching for help on defense. He’s three years or so late in doing it but….
What I don’t want is another stop gap. “let’s try to get by with this guy and hope he plays better then he has his entire career”. No more Pock’s!
John Erskine turned into a solid player in Washington and the Isles just wouldn’t give him time to continue developing.
Jurcina from Washington is a UFA I think this summer perhaps he could be pried away?
Matt Walker from Tampa Bay would be a good pick up.
O’Bryne from Montreal would be fantastic!
Theo Peckham from Edm would be shrewed. He’s playing in the AHL, young guy, talented, and can fight!
Shane O’Brien is available from Van. I don’t know how mobile he is but he’s big and tough and for anyone who saw the play between the Rangers and Van in Nov he already hates the Rangers!
How about Nick Petrecki from SJ who is also developing in the AHL now?
Marc Methot from Col.
Nashville always seems to have a few extra very talented d-men.
Jack Johnson from LA also appears to be available.
No more stop gaps Garth! Find us an impact d-man and please NO MORE SMURFS!
I’d like to say Lavi was my favorite Islander coach since Al Arbour. He did a great job and while he was there I saw a lot of hope. A shame he faced Yashin’s execution squad.
I really like Gordon too minus some mistakes in breaking up hot lines and not using toughness.
4 - 2, Flyers. Look for another injury to the Isles tonight. I can see Cote, Richards, Pronger, etc. injuring an Isle. The Flyers are going to play very emotionally, considering how badly they’ve played lately. 8 - 2 to the Caps at home? Yeesh — we’re playing Philly at the worst possible time. (Hope I’m wrong!)
I think Flyers are due for a win, too bad they are playing the Isles. 4-2 Flyers, I hope that I’m wrong.
Regarding the BraveHeart, I’m glad he’s OK after being hit by a Yukon. Look at the fans’ reactions on the TSN article. One dude wrote: “Wow, i guess flyer fans will do anything to get a win! ;)”. How true it is.
I still hope that Garth can convince Brian Murray to send Volchenkov our way and take Biron and Comeau of our hands.
5-4 isles in shootout
Having DirecTV and not able to get Versus, I will not be able to watch the Isles tonight. What a shame for the NHL- a struggling league already- to prevent fans from watching their home team play.
TSN has the story on Witt getting hit by a car in Philly. Witter got up, brushed himself off, and said he was playing tonight. Apparently he participated in the morning skate. That’s one tough SOB.
Wait..so Brendan Witt and Ron Artest(?) were BOTH hit by cars in Philly?? How odd…
Nice to see so many predicting an Islander win tonight. I wish I could feel the same. I think it’s going to get ugly.
And about Garth putting a few lines in the water - big whoop. I’ll believe it when I see results.
Play well tonight boys! Go Isles! (yikes)
The Versus issue is not an NHL thing, it is a TV provider issue. COMCAST owns Versus, Comcast, which just bought NBC, is a major major cable player and competition to DTV. Comcast is also negotiating with the NFL to make Sunday Ticket available to subscribers, which has Directv pissed off to no end.
Don’t blame the NHL for this, its out of their hands.
I’m seeing 3-2 Flyers for tonight, 3-1 Isles against TO Roloson gets an easy game, only makes 47 saves.
What are the odds of Snow going bigger in a trade for a D-man? Maybe looking at a Sheldon Souray type? He’s got a big cap hit for the next few years and has been out two of the last four seasons with pretty major injuries, but him and Streit on the points on the power play would be pretty awesome and with the Oilers up against the cap he may come with at least a small discount, right?
I hope I am wrong, but Flyers 5-1.Cote,Asham,Lapierriere and Pronger are going to wreak havoc on the undersized physically challenged Islanders.Too bad we could not have Matt Martin and Michael Haley in the lineup for tonight’s game and tomorrow’s encounter with the Maple Leafs.
Islanders win 3-2 and Okposo scores a pair of goals .
Get Macintyre from Florida, it will give us someone that doesnt have the physique of a skeleton(pretty much all of our D and come to think of it all of our forwards) while providing the toughness we really need.
3-2 Flyers….just a hunch.
I’ll never understand why Snow didn’t pick up Jones (or anyone for that matter)in the first place when he had the chance. Our D wasn’t anything spectacular before the injuries. I guess sometimes the fans do get ones right.
CB, there’s been quite a bit of speculation that Anaheim will shop Scott Niedermayer. He’s on a one year contract, and as a “rental” may not command too high an asking price. Do you think there’s any chance he’d agree to come to the Isles? Also, do you think that Garth would make another “here today, gone tomorrow” deal (like Ryan Smyth) if he had a chance to get the team into the playoffs?
NO way to Sopel. Outside of Yanny and MAB this is the last former Islander D-man I want back. He stunk during his time here. I wouldn’t pick him up off waivers even.
#40 not that bad of a idea, short d-men fine! Bring in some additional mussel and pound em on the forcheck, pound em in the neutral zone. Not too much need for d-men if they don’t want to touch the puck lol!
So Brendan “hood ornament” Witt was hit by a car. Is the car ok? I’m thinking Philly’s struggles continue and the Isles win 4-2, KO breaks out of his slump with a goal and an assist
I’m 99% sure the Isles did not pass on Quincy. The day he was out on waiver the Kings were a point or two lower in the standings than the Isles so they had 1st shot at him and got him.
4-1 Islanders….Marty Biron Will Be Solid Tonight. If he is…he should play again in Toronto. Aren’t we trying to get his trade value up anyway?
I’d love for KO and MM to both play well and pot some goals and assists because they are on my fantasy team… but… considering how “well” the team plays against the Flyers: 3-1 Philly. Lazy save and soft goal to Van Riemsdyk just for ish and giggles.
Please no sopel. Aaron ward would be good. Easy for you guys with taken Jones over Schremp. HINDSIGHT IS 20/20. easy to say so. If schremp came on and was ripping it up the same people would be saying I KNEW WE DID RIGHT THING taken Schremp.
Would Toronto deal with us? Biron for one of the 10 dman they have? Finger, White, Kaberle, Van Ryn. anyone.
Islanders will put a load of hurting on the bad guys with a 6-1 win.
no no no to scott niedermayer. the only we we would mortgage so much for a player of that ilk is if we honestly thought we had a chance to win the whole things this year which we clearly DO NOT. We have to be really patient and not try “so so hard” to come in 8th and lose in 5 games in the first round. As good as this team has looked, they cannot bring in some guy now who will prevent them from bringing in someone better at the end of the year.
#33, volchenkov is a ufa at the end of the year.so why give up anything now when we’d have to sign him anyway for the future. we could ship biron and/or/both of comeau/neilsen for someone good, and pick up volchenkov at the end of the year anyway.
Hey if DP is healthy by next week and we can get a good deal on Biron why not get it done soon as we can possibly bring in a solid d-man.
SOCRE: 5-3 ISLANDERS(empty netter)
No to Sopel, and although I like the Corvo idea I’d like some relief before February. Are there any d-men available that aren’t “available”?? Perhaps some talented guys that aren’t working with their teams (redden, not like the Isles want his contract), something like that.
4-3 Flyers, hate to say it and I hope I’m wrong.
i love the idea of the playoffs this year, but realistically i dont think we win a 7 game series vs the top teams in the east. i would rather see the isles stay the course, and be sellers in feb. if we are buyers and it only get us from say ‘on the bubble’ to the second round, i dont think it would be worth it. unload vets and pieces that dont fit for picks/prospects; then give it a year. i dont think anyone expected the isles to be in the hunt at this point. its only year 2 of the rebuild, we shouldnt be a ‘contender’ for another year or 2. be happy they’ve progressed so much over the last year. 3-2 isles tonight, moulson bergy and jackman(!?) score.
I echo the thoughts on Sopel, stay away. I’d like to see Biron get a good amount of the games over the next 2-3 weeks, hopefully get his trade value up and with DP back, bring in a D-man for Biron. I realize that’s a lot of “if’s”, we’ll see. Isles 3-2 in OT after blowing a 2-0 lead.
You should be able to get the game online at atdhe.net
My thoughts:
1. I am glad that Garth is looking to acquire a dman, but I just hope he does not sacrifice the rebuild to do it. A 3-4th round pick or average propsect is fine, but he should not go looking for the home run trade if it is not there.
2. Cam Barker is a mediocre, slow, and overpaid dman. I lived in Chicago last year and watched him a lot. The guy has a great slapshot, but has very little hockey sense or defensive awareness. He is also slower than Sutton.
Flyers 4-2 tonight and we’re going to get tossed around like rag dolls by the much bigger and physically aggressive Flyers. Nothing to pick a team up like pummeling a division rival everyone expected to finish 30th in the league.
Agree with others that Sopel is not the answer. I think Snow will keep is simple and go for Callahan as you mention CB. He’s a stay at home d-man who won’t contribute much offensively but is willing to hit and be hit to move the puck and is not afraid of dropping the gloves (not to mention the right price). Sutton is being asked to do too much physically by being the primary d-man to answer the bell every game. Witt occasionally steps it up physically but the rest of the D is too small to be effective in protecting the goalie.
Story edited to fix Quincey error. Thanks for the catch. Enjoy the game…CB
#39, I agree that it is not the NHL’s fault, but my point is that it IS the NHL’s fault that they are on a station that no one cares about like Versus. This type of situation would not happen if they were on ESPN, that was more of my point. Versus still isn’t on Direct TV because nobody cares that it isn’t on. If ESPN were taken off of Direct TV, there would be a huge uproar and people would be fighting back. No one is leaving Direct TV and going to cable because of Versus.
Wouldn’t mind any of those dmen listed. Have always been a fan of corvo and exelby. Both would help long term as well. Corvo has a great shot from the point and exelby can replace Witt. Players seem to play better for the isles for some reason. Love the kovalchuk reference as well. I pray for Atlanta losses for that reason
Isles 6 Philly 4. KO,JT, Hunter(2), MM(2)
callahan is the most likely of all mentioned-but remember you have to give up something to get something, that’s how GMs make a living and when they guess right most of the time, stay employed!
(1) Garth Snow is out of his mind if he’s even considering bringing in Sopel. Remember all the trash Sopel talked about the organization after he was traded to the Kings at the 2006 deadline?
(2) As much as it pains me: Flyers 4 Islanders 1.
so we don’t get the game even if we have NHL Center Ice. That’s BS
No Sopel, no old guy.
Getting a d-man should not be about finishing 8th this year, it should be about solidifying our future when we get rid of dead wood (Witt, Martinek).
Stars align for Flyers tonight 4-2 but I hope I’m proven wrong.
I’ve thought for a while that Volchenkov should be a priority for the Isles in the offseason, if Ottawa doesn’t have him locked up by them. Have to think they’ll re-sign him before he hits FA though…he hits hard and blocks a ton of shots.
As for options now…I agree, not Sopel. If it’s just another 5-7 guy, then honestly, don’t bother if they have to give up anything…even a late round pick.
Noticed that Lavi didn’t heap much praise on Milbury for his time here on the Island.
Boy I’d like having Aucoin back. Averages 23 minutes, has size, hits and can play point on the PP.
#54 I am against the idea of trading neilsen
4-3 isles scary as hell 3rd period
More like a car got hit by brendan Witt
florida d-man ville koistinen is on re-entry waivers. maybe we pick him up. def no to sopel. been there, done that. i like the quotes from lavi. always liked the guy. too bad i have to root against him b/c he’s with the flyers.
5-3 islanders Game winner by okposo
Emery on IR, lower body….Better chance for Isles tonight.
Flyers 5 Isles 2. Marty Salo gives up 2 softies as usual.
Wanted Randy Jones when he was available and all the Isles had to was put a claim in right? They had first dibs before the Flyers because of their record. We all knew Martinek and Sutton would get hurt, happens every year. As for tonight, I hate playing teams on losing streaks and the Flyers always beat the Isles so tonight will be no different I’m afraid…Flyers 5, Isles 1.
Get a defensemen that might have a little up-side and be here for 2 or 3 years vs. someone on the downside.
I have no idea who that may be.
Islanders 4 Philly 3 but the game is decidedly in the Islanders favor.
DOC
Islanders3 Flyers2…in the shootout
I’m still pissed about grabbing Tomas Pock off waivers early last season when Kyle Quincey was put on waivers the very next week by Detroit. If we waited just DAYS later, we would have had a young up and coming D man instead of the disaster we ended up with.
Perfect example of Islander fans showing their cluelessness at players who get placed on waivers. I remember some Islander fans with disdain saying “no thanks” to Randy Jones when he was available on waivers. Now who is laughing last? The Kings got him at $1,375,000 and now Snow is going to be forced to give up something in return for a average defenseman just to fill a roster spot.
Philly 2
Isles 1
Loss in shootout, 4 rounds, 2-1.
Isles goal Bergy….something greasy.
Shootout goal Tavaras
Richards and Giroux for Philly.
I say the game goes into the 3rd period tied at 2 … The Flyers score 2 goals in the middle 10 mins of the third, and then add an empty netter.
Isles go 0-for on the PP, and JT and MM get the only goals … KO goaless streak continues but he assits on both goals.
****
Witter -3 for the game.
The Isles need D big time … we knew this before injuries. If they trade I hope they get someone who can play both sides of the puck so we don’t have KO at the point anymore.
Let me also add how many defenseman were available in the summer and signed on the cheap with other teams and the Islanders did nothing. They signed no one when they clearly needed to knowing the history of our starting defenseman. Terrible management by the front office.
I think Matt Hunwick would be a better fit on the Islanders than he is in Boston. He is struggling a bit there but he is a good skater and has good vision, and may not cost the Isles too much. Just a thought.
Isles win 5-2.
Should have tried to pick up a Dman other then A’Pock’alypse’lame ..agreed spilt milk in Islanders country again. I live in Carolina now, RBC is right down the street and Ward is not the answer. He wasn’t sure he was coming back after he left Boston but wanted to finish his career here as his family never left., He’s NOT coming to LI. Corvo, thats a different story, he’s got skills, offensive PP qb and can play minutes, but this injury will slow him down a bunch, can he help out thin blue line?? Questionable asset till we know more. Tonight 4-3 Isles Carter plays real well against us, he’ll wake up but hopefully the Flyers’funk hasn’t gone away yet..;p
isles lose tonight 5-2(ENG) but win tomorrow without Rolo making 60 saves 3-2
How about Campoli…He was a healthy scratch in Ottawa. Maybe for a fourth round pick? Would that make Snow look even better?
sadly i got a feeling of a let down tonight
6-2 bad guys
Any truth to the rumor that Witt’s new nickname is Timex [takes a lickin but keeps on tickin]? He just needs a new battery to get those legs movin again!!
Flyers 4-1 (ENG) and Jackman takes a beatin from Asham.
after the 3 disallowed goals on sat, i say we get some legit ones tonight. Philly still isnt back up to snuff yet, isles 5-1
We Want CB’s Prospect Rankings!! jk. I’m just dyin’ to see what you gotta say.
Hey Garth, why didn’t you get a D-man over the summer? Why wait until now? It’s not like every fan didn’t know we needed a D man when the season started!!!!!
What happens when NYI play home playoff games and they’re on Versus? No radio for those playoff games. What a joke. 3 people will hear C King tonight. Ridiculous.
Snow spending $$ on biron when he could of saved a million by signing a dubie type was a error. Biron/dubie r a dime a dozen goalies. They needed that extra million for a defensmen…since they have a internal salary cap.
Im worried about tonights game. Teams usually get it going after a coaching change. So far Philly has continuted to be awful. Prediction 5-1 Flyers.
No word on how much damage to the car that hit Witt…..
With emery out the Isles pound Boucher with a ton of shots. I think Philly comes out hard but Biron plays his first very solid game of the season. 4-2 ISLES. KO gets a much needed goal tonight.
6-3 flyers. BIRON SUCKS.
Heard ya on XM. Witt rolled over the hood of the car? Guess he’ll be a stuntman in Hollywood when he hangs up the skates. Maybe a surfing flick!
they have to win a game like this tonight. 4-2 Isles
Moulson
Okposo
Meyer
Tavares
Rob davison- liked him when he was here as a #6 dman. Wouldn’t cost much and adds toughness.
95 TM In the playoffs they would do like they did tonight and have an actual radio broadcast.
Only people who had satellite radio could hear because Philly station had it. If NYI was home and on Versus there wouldn’t be a home feed because of no simulcast with no MSG+. Since I live 7 miles from NVMC and can’t hear the joke of the NYI Radio network that doesn’t count. No radio.
