ISLANDERS 6 DETROIT 0
The can-you-frickin’-believe that? Plus/Minus
9:22 pm – Islanders 6, Red Wings 0. And it wasn’t really that close.
Plus: No one can say the Islanders aren’t a blast to watch when they’re at their best.
Plus: Haven’t praised the glory of playing four lines in a while. Started to take it for granted!
Plus: Speaking of which, what is there left to say about Dwayne “The Rock” Roloson? Man, this team plays well in front of him.
Plus: Islanders beat the Red Wings at the Coliseum for the first time since Feb. 27, 1999.
Plus: The Islanders shut out Detroit at home for the first time since Chico Resch did it on January 13, 1976.

Plus: Josh Bailey is not on a hot streak. He is breaking out. The 20-year-old has 13 points (four goals and nine assists) in his last seven games.
Plus: In response to a question this morning about starting his energy line most games, Scott Gordon said the reason was “to establish our forecheck.” Tonight he temporarily put Richard Park instead of John Tavares on the line between Bailey and Kyle Okposo to start the game. They had a strong shift and the momentum carried to Matt Moulson’s goal at 1:11 with Frans Nielsen at center and Okposo still on the ice.
Plus: Four stars to Scott Gordon, Scott Allen and Dean Chynoweth for effectively preparing the Islanders to play the dreaded first home game after a Western swing.
Plus: Bruno Gervais with his best game of the season. “That was his best game of the season,” said Gordon.
Plus: Rob Schremp with the first even-strength goal of his 32-game NHL career.
Plus: On Schremp’s second goal, you can say Brad Stuart gagged it up. You could also point to Stuart being yet another defensemen this season frustrated by having forechecking Islanders in his face. Heck, they even ticked off the unflappable Pavel Datsyuk.
Plus: Schremp’s contagious enthusiasm. “He knows I believe in him, and he’s made a believer out of his teammates,” said Gordon.
Plus: Mark Streit scoring to make it 4-0 and acting like he’d done it before.
Plus: Two goals by defensemen!
Plus: Memo to Brian Burke – Kyle Okposo has goals in four straight games, and is playing just as well as he has all season.
Plus: Sean Bergenheim returned and looked good. Jimmy Howard took a goal away from him at 6:42 of the second.
Plus: Patrick Roy told a Canadian reporter that Islanders prospect Kevin Poulin is the best goaltender in the Quebec League.
Plus: Not that many of the current Islanders have a connection to him, but sure was nice to see the boys put on a good show for Kenny Jonsson.
Plus: All this positive talk is getting out of hand.
Even: After a road trip in California and Arizona, the Red Wings practiced at home on Monday for the first time in ten days. Then they flew to New York for tonight’s game. For Detroit, this is the norm. “I was afraid of this game when I saw the schedule in the summer,” said Wings coach Mike Babcock. Remember that the next time an Eastern Conference team squawks about travel.
Minus: When you’re beating them on the scoreboard and in every phase of the game, you don’t disrespect the Red Wings by putting their players on the Kiss-cam.
Minus: The Islanders don’t play again until Saturday. They could use a game Thursday.
Plus: All right, that’s about as much whine as I can pour tonight. Almost.
*
Reader Notice: I understand this is an Islanders blog and we – no one more than I – beat a lot of issues to death over the 365 days in a year. I just want to say this, and I really hope you respect where I’m coming from. After tonight, if in the next three days I see any more discussion of Jeff Tambellini, Nate Thompson, Richard Park and Jon Sim (or even talking about Arron Asham like he was Bobby Nystrom), I will lose my mind. I think just about everyone who reads Point Blank will lose their minds. I’d rather shut down for a few days. Seriously. Thank you.
Islanders to work out off-ice only on Wednesday. Enjoy the victory. Comments. Please read the Comment Guidelines if you haven’t recently.

I keep waiting for the wheels to fall of the Islander train. Doesnt look like that is going to happen anytime soon. Man that is exciting to think about. Keep up the great work TEAM.
-
Bailey>>Tavares. Never thought he would learn to shoot the puck. I thought he was hopeless. Nice to see a first round pick work out. Even if he wasnt the guy Snow wanted.
-
That was aw.. wait for it.. some
-
OOOOOMMMMMMGGGGGG
AMAZING GAME.
if they continue playing like this they will b in the playoffs for sure
-
an absolutely flawless performance by nyi. unreal. the best game of the gordon era. this team is fun to watch!
-
Hopefully a confidence booster for Gervais. They need him to play well, especially if Witter is out for a bit. Can’t remember the last time the Islanders’ D-corp has been this balanced and been playing this well (maybe it was in Jonsson’s days). Sutton, Hillen, Streit, Andy Mac, even FMIV and Bruno, all playing well.
-
One of the most exciting things ive seen lately is Josh Freakin Bailey!!! I dont knw what happened but he has looked unbelievable and finally taking initiative wth the puck and showing that he belongs in this league. CB u def got it right about JB…lately his play is making Garth n co. look very smart drafting the kid. I hope it continues, so pumped about JB…best game ive seen our boys play in years!
-
If we can’t talk about …. Those we can’t talk about, does this mean we can talk about RickyD?
Couldn’t watch the game, but I’ll see the highlights on the NHL Network. Happy to see a great performance by teh boyz.
-
Plus: The New York Hockey Islanders.
Minus: Detroit’s seemingly disinterest in this game. At least throw a check!
-
plus-isles have outscored detroit 8-0 in the last 11 months.
-
PLUS: Call me crazy but i think i just saw a playoff caliber team playing in the home uniforms at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, man that was fun…
-
we actually held a third period lead and didnt allow a goal!!!! woohoo!!!
There is only one reason why i think this game was absolutely fantastic:
We got the puck out of our own end without coughing it up 6 times every try. With the exception of a little bit in the third, did the wings ever have control of the puck in our zone for more than 10 seconds??
just a flat out perfectly executed game.
-
Plus: 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
-
Put them in the West!
Plus…EVERYTIHNG!
Minus….NOTHING!
-
Good to see the positivity back on IPB! This is how this team should play every night. Quick passes, great forecheck and responsible play in all 3 zones. Sad to hear about the Kiss cam, overall not a huge deal, and couldn’t agree more on the Brian Burke comment, CB. Major mistake missing out on Kyle, he could really help the USA team. Lets Go Isles
-
Lighten up about the KissCam, CB. Been to two away Islanders games this year and both games the home team did it to the Islanders on KissCam. In Florida, I believe we were down 4-2 at the time. You are really stretching to find a minus here.
-
….Im all for getting Ricky in game shape….but Gordo has to honer the goalie code and start Rollie on Saturday after the shut out. I mean the team played great defensively but still……
…I sure am glad we drafted Baily instead of Filatov.
….Schremp is fun to watch. Good for him he seems to have bought into Gordons system and he is getting his chances. Which is good for the Islanders.
….agreed, after tonight its hard to criticize who Gordon plays. The boys were solid tonight.
…..I think the league should be on notice. Nice to see the Islanders bury a game at home. Wish I was there.
-
I listened on the radio and it was fantastic.
plus: there is potential
-
Plus- The entire Islanders team, from the first puck drop to the final horn. I can’t think of one Islander that even seemed off on his game.
Minus- We have 3 days to wait to build on this game.
-
My satellite radio wasn’t working correctly when the game started, but fixed itself on the way home (live in Cali)…I was astounded when I saw 4-0 Islanders! Had to tune out at the end of the 2d. Imagine my surprise when I saw 6-0 final score! Way to roll the Wings.
-
Wow that was the best game I have been to awhile !
-
Plus: Josh Bailey. Everything and more than what the Isles could have expected at this point.
Plus: Rob Schremp. He’s really been an outstanding addition to this team and to the offense. He’s a budding star.
Speaking of budding stars…
Plus: John Tavares. I thought this was his best game in a while. He’s on the verge of breaking out again.
Plus: Look at all the talented youngsters – under the age of 26 – that we have: Tavares, Okposo, Bailey, Nielsen, Bergenheim, Schremp, Moulson, Comeau, not to mention what’s about to come, potentially, in Joensuu, Poulin, de Haan, Hamonic, Martin….
things look really really good right now.
Even: With the parity in the NHL, the Isles stay so close to a playoff spot, yet are still not far off a lottery pick. It’s funny, but they are a big winning streak away from being 5th in the East, to a losing streak from being 13th. There is no indication that will change anytime soon.
-
WHO THE HELL were those guys in blue tonight??!!? Jaffe may be right, this could be easily the best game I’ve seen this team play in a long time, WOW. Whenever this team fully matures, this should be us from game 1 to 82 and beyond and if so, man…
-
Us Islander fans need a night like this! Not only does the future look brighter than ever before, but it really is not a stretch to believe that the present doesn’t look too bad either. The east is wide open- and it doesn’t look like the Islanders are going away.
How exciting would it be if the Islanders would hold a playoff spot at the Olympic Break?
-
Was at the game tonight and it was great to watch such an all out well played game……maybe this will be the beginning of our road to the future!!!
-
O T B Line is one hell of a trifecta.
Odds are Gordon keeps those boys together for a while.
In case anyone forgot, that is what it looks like when a team is clicking on all cylinders. Its been a long time since we have witnessed a complete performance like that(all three periods, I know!). Cheers to those fans who made it to the game as well, nice to see seats slowly filling up and actually hearing energy from the home town crowd!
-
This game was absolutely worth staying up until 4 in the morning (Netherlands) when I have to get up at 7:30;) We’re all Islanders, even in Holland!
PLUS: 19 rock solid Islanders players!
Tavares played a really good game! No one mentioned it so far but the guy worked his ass off, played some really good defense in the Detroit zone and created some chances, unfortunately no points. But he’ll be back, for sure!
-
thanks for the reader notice. it has been hard to read.
no minus from me.
can not get too high on this game, just like not getting too down after a stinker…BUT WOW, that was fun to watch!
Love seeing the future all in one line. 19yr old Tavares, 20yr old Bailey and 21yr old Okposo. Happy for Schremp. Future of this team is looking bright. -
I thought 1)we were too small. 2)we were too soft 3)we were too young 4)JB was rushed. 5)Sim et al were a waste of space 6)garth was in over his head 7)Gordo’s ran a minor-league system 8)wang was nuts.
I was dead wrong. We need to stop whining about this team no matter what happens the rest of the year. They are already more successful than we thought going in. Garth has managed to field an exciting, competitive team with an eye for the future. 6pts in 4 games against Col, Dal, Pho, Det. Amazing.
-
haha did Gordon just admit that the team tanked it at the end of last year to remain behind TB and COL??
-
That was so much fun to watch – THANK YOU! and GO ISLANDERS!!!
-
Great win tonite, Bailey, Okoposo, schremp and Rolo were awesome! If the isles have any chance to make the playoffs, they need to duplicate this effort against Atlantic div opponents, namely the Flyers and Devils. Isles need to snap that 13 game losing streak against Philly. Big games coming up!
-
Let’s Go Islanders!
-
Hear Hear on that Tambellini, Thompson, Park and Sim portion. Enough already!
-
Were the Wings really that bad or the Isles that good? The Isles were THAT good tonight. Just got in from the game and it was one of the most solid games I can remember seeing in a very long time. Someone behind me said that the Wings looked like they played games every night for the past week. I contribute it more to the Isles simply out-working them and establishing the forecheck early. Plus Roli was solid when he needed to be. LGI!!
-
Hey CB, don’t you mean this is the Isles first shutout at home vs the wings since ’76? we shut them out last yr in detroit, remember?
-
Plus: A fanastic win and lots of positivity on here this evening.
Big minus: Going to read about the game on CNN/SI’s hockey front page and seeing the story listed as “Schremp, Rangers breeze by road-weary Wings”
-
CB, I respect and agree with your comment about Jeff Tambellini, Nate Thompson, Richard Park and Jon Sim. However, many fans see your site as the last bastion of a place to discuss ALL aspects of the team. Perhaps if you put up something JUST for comments on issues like this, it would clear up some of the debates that go on where we like to discuss other topics. I for one do not go off topic, but there are others who would like to voice their opinions on these subjects and enjoy the opinions of others who watch the team each day. In short, I hope you rethink the ultimatum of shutting the comments. Thank you for your consideration and all of the hard work you do.
~Ajax -
Big win against a good team.
-
Let me go crazy for a second: looking at HIS numbers versus what so far has been an average Isles team, is it time to start whispering the words “Roloson” and “Vezina” in the same sentence?
Craziness, over. Thank you.
-
MINUS: To all the fans who stormed out of the draft party when Snow passed on Filitov and traded down…
PLUS: Josh Bailey
Just got home from the game; complete team effort tonite. Actually, the first game I sat back and enjoyed in a looooooooooooooooooong time! Dominant!
-
Guys, was at the game tonight. Decent crowd, but a bit quiet in the stands. Only negative, I thought the fans and the Islander organization could have made a bigger deal about Kenny’s presence in the building. They make a bigger deal with Kiss Cam than a guy that may have been our only bright spot, for almost a decade, until we made it back to the post season in’02.
-
Great job tonight, it was the most complete game I’ve seen the Isles play in a very long time. From top to bottom an awsome effort. Everyone was doing there job. JT no point’s, but his play in the other zone’s = an Isles win, JT keep working hard the point’s will come as your working hard it will all come together. RS nice two goal’s tonight keep it up. KO do I need to say more great hustle and hard work = isles WIN. Just the fact that they limited the red wing’s to under 20 shot’s(correct me if I’m wrong) so Rolo can earn the shut out. can;t say enough about this TEAM tonight and many more to come in FUTURE..
LETS GO ISLANDERS…….. -
post 39 couldn’t agree more, I will admit I was furious when snow passed on filatov. But I was dead wrong. Snow is a fantastic GM and I have total confidecne he knows what he is doing
-
You just had to know you were about to witness a special game after Matt’s goal.
I can’t say I’ve seen the Isles dominate a quality opponent like this in ages. Maybe they have … I just can’t remember. The Red Wings have been my second fave team since like forever … and I keep track of them … I have to say … I had a gut feeling the Isles would have their number this season… but if you said a 6-0 blow out … I’d of given ya directions to the Bellvue psyche ward.
-
+ The young guys who are the frame work of the Isles future continue to impress and improve
+ Relentless … I haven’t seen the Isles press a team with authority and confidence in a while.
+ CB’s right … They need a game this Thursday … definitely a game to build off on.
+ Shremp’s 2 goals accompanied by good all zone play.
+ Okposo playing you’ll be sorry for not picking me Mr. Burke hockey.
+ no minuses
-
Im glad i decided to go to game tonight. best 60 mins of hockey of season. We looked like world beaters tonight.
Welcome back Bergie.
Tavares while he didnt score, i thought his gameplay is back. he has some great scoring chances.
Nice to See Kenny Jonsson.
If Bruno Grevais can play like that, we will win alot more games.
CB you said it the best. 2 goals by dman. Impressive. LETS GO ISLES
-
Most dominate Islander game I have been at since..well not even sure since when. Nothing really more to add. Made the long trip worthwhile. Hope to see more 60 min efforts like that.
I just hope Gordon keeps this lineup for a while. Bergy was flying…
CB – I hear what your saying about player comments, but the fact Bergenheim had been sitting healthy is certainly topic worthy and it’s going to generate conversation about all the players you mention. Also when you mention some of these players, people are going to comment! Not sure what you expect!
-
When you have a good scouting staff, you don’t have to worry about lottery picks.
I couldn’t see the game tonight.
But without the MAJOR trade, this team much reminds me of the 91-92 Islanders. They got off to a rough start, traded for Turgeon, Thomas, and Co. Righted the ship a little bit, and were in strking distance of a playoff spot. I wouldn’t have said this even a month ago, but I think that this team is going to hang in and at least come close.
-
… Actually, the start in 91-92 wasn’t rough, they did start off with a win in Boston and they beat a weaker Philadelphia team about a week later. But they certainly did have fits and starts that year, just like this year. We’ll see how it shakes out.
-
Was at the game tonite – lots of red wings fans but a nice size crowd
KO heating up… but when do we start to worry about JT? I think he’s just pressing and needs a luck goal for him to break out. he looks very frustrated but had a decent game tontie
double chilli!
-
yes it was a nice win. nice to get a game like that for the fans and the team. but lets not get too high over this. basically, the team did what they are suppose to do, against another team that is banged up on the injury front, battling for a playoff seed (yes, detroit is battling for one). The islanders played their game from start to finish. Good for them. Lets see how they do against buffalo, a team with a hotter goalie, and a hot team.
-
Someone pinch me….if the isles make the playoffs they will give any team a hard time and could make some noise!! Best game ihave seen in years.
Plus: Islanders rebuild
Plus: watching the Isles dominate the Wings!! -
Plus – New York Islanders, Fans, IPB. JT had a good game and is starting to turn it around…
Plus, Plus, Plus- No more Tamb’s, Sim, Park, Thompson discussions (Thanx CB).
-
So mad i missed the first. i’m dvr-ing the replay so i can watch.
I’ll silence myself on Bruno.
Good job Streit, Bailey, and Shremp!!! -
Need to call the equipment manager. I think the Islanders and Red Wings swapped jerseys tonight.
-
What an absolute joy of a game. It was perfect in pretty much every way I can imagine… and that really is unreal. There was nothing to complain about rgarding their play in this game even if I tried!
-
51- i thought tonight was tavares’ best game in a while, just a bit snakebit. Assuming that line stays together he’ll be back on the scoresheet soon enough.
-
The Islanders are really good especially with all their d-men being healthy! O wait….
-
There are so many peaks and valleys during a season. Everyone was putting JT in the Hall after the first month and hopefully he will get there one day. Bailey was being sent down or everyone wanted him traded. Bailey just seems a lot more confident and it shows in his play. Plus he seems like a very intelligent and nice kid when he is interviewed. Just keep up the good work guys.
-
+ the best all around performance by a young Islander team since Shaw was the coach.
- it was only one game.
+ BTO… They need to play Takin’ Care Of Business whenever one of them scores…
- the reality that maybe Brendan Witt was holding back Bruno… wow
+ Scott gordon getting a taste of NHL hockey without fotonat. Let’s hope Scott destroyed the negatives.
+ best lineup the isles put on the ice in maybe 7 years… and the YOUNGEST.
+ 3 goals from the discount rack. Schremp(2) + Moulson(1)
+ Three NY/NJ goalies in action… 0GA
+ Three NY/NJ teams in action 6 goals scored… ALL BY THE ISLANDERS… Look that up at elias… I bettin that NEVER happened before.
+ Josh Bailey… did he find the secret compartment in Sean Hill’s old locker… WOW!!!
+ KJ in the house!!! Let’s hope he was here signing on as a European scout.
+ Maybe… just maybe, some of that Geritol Magic will spill over to DP from Roloson, and he’ll be putting on shows like this when he’s 40… because he’ll still be an Islander.
+ nobody on this blog has mentioned the LHP.. oops.
I can’t wait until saturday!!! -
I hope and pray that this year is the beginning of this team becoming relevant in this area again. G/f had the news on in the next room and it had Saltzberg showing the lone Devils goal tonight and all the Isles got was a mention. I’m tired of opening a newspaper and having to search for a one paragraph “story” about the Isles game from the night before while the Rags and usually the Devils get reasonable or better coverage.
-
Great effort tonight, nothing short of a complete team effort! What happens to Witter now? Love his size and grit but it’s obvious that the team executes the gogo system so much better without him…
-
How is Okposo not even an alternate?
1st in TOI for US Forwards
9th in Pts. for US Forwards
5th in GW Goals for US ForwardsNever mind I forgot he doesn’t have enough experience??
What a joke, should’ve been on the team, and hes not even an alternate.. -
I just love the fact that if you go to NHL.com and view the best of the week, goals of the week, saves of the week and hits of the week they all have Islanders in them Rolli,Shremp and Sutton. Damn this is getting fun!!!!
-
Beware the young team that starts to believe!
The enthusiasm and “Why not us” attitude of youth can carry you a long way!
With a player or 2 certain to come in the near future trades, dare we say the NY Islanders in the playoffs??? -
Great game tonight. Might have been the best since the Stanley Cup days. lol. I’m glad I did not flip out like many fans when Bailey was drafted. This is why you have to wait to see how things turn out. No matter how things turn out this year the future looks bright.
-
BUY GARTH BUY
-
DONT DO N E THING WITH THE LINES!!!! i want to see the same thing next game except with DP in net
-
o and the isles literally ripped their RED WINGS off and back handed them.
-
what a change of events from last year. this team has been competative and hungry with the rare blow out game. i love our future and find myself caught between a playoff push or adding another piece to the puzzle that will add to the core of the future. the look on jt face is he is a competitor and is worst critic. making the playoffs is very positive regardless if its a first round loss. this team has maybe one or two guys who are only looking to collect a check or make there mark to move to a playoff team. playoff experience will make our young guys grow faster an make them closer. this could only add to there determination in the off season to be better and drive there competition. guys like ok, bailey, jt, dp all desire to win. this is deff not the nolan team filled with individuals. playoffs are won with goaltending and we are not short in that department. what do you think?
-
Great game.. I must give a plus to the redwings fan that threw the octopus on the ice!!
-
I like Witt, but he definitely needed to take a seat. Bruno Gervais looked so much better partnered with Freddy Meyer. The defense as a whole played a more complete game. Good game to be at.
-
Sweet friggin dreams Islander fans!
If I wasn’t so tired I would break the rules and write a 10 paragraph rant about how great that game was and how well the Islanders played as a team.
-
Wish I could’ve seen this one. Sounds like a great ame all around. That said, here’s how much confidence I have in this teams ability to hold a 3rd period lead: I knew it was 4-0 after 2, but I was curling and could barely see the final score when it came up on the TV in the bar. All I could really make out was a round-ish number for the Red Wings, and the Isles were even tougher to read. First thing that popped into my head was a 6-4 loss. Sure glad I was wrong. And hey, if they keep playing well maybe in a few weeks I’ll trust them to hold a lead
-
I decided I wanted to go to the game tonight, and the only friends that I have that like hockey are Ranger fans, but they decided it would be fun to see a hockey game for 17 dollars (with Student ID). And boy was it ever fun.
+Rob Schremp. Such amazing hands. SOOOOO much potential. I think it’s fair to say that he can stick handle as good as anyone in the league. And if not, he will.
+Josh Bailey: CB said it. This is more than a point streak. It’s not going to end any time soon. Granted he won’t have 80 points in the second half of the season, he’s clearly worth the early draft pick, and he’s definitely going to develop into a solid top-6 forward.
+Kyle Okposo. Another goal, another solid game all around. He’s great in every zone. You know you and the team is doing something right when Pavel Datsyuk pummels you for no reason.
+Matt Moulson: Very energetic game, strong on the puck, and a goal early on to kick us off. Hopefully he plays more like this!
+Sean Bergenheim: Welcome back! His energy and talent really showed up tonight. Didn’t look rusty at all.
+Dwayne Roloson: A well deserved shutout. Another great game as the backbone of the team. Didn’t face many shots, but he made some big saves when he needed to. You could tell he felt good tonight with the team by how much skating he was doing.
+Just about everything else.
-
Awesome game. Just frickin’ awesome.
Fun Fact: Who are the current Islanders who were on the roster when Kenny Jonsson last wore the Orange and Blue? Answer: (1) Trent Hunter, (2) Sean Bergenheim, (3) Radek Martinek, (4) Rick DiPietro. My, doesn’t that Tampa Bay series seem like a lifetime ago…..
-
WOW! If that is what the future looks like for the Isles…WOW!!!
Plus: Josh Bailey. I love his passes and all around game!
Plus: Rob Schremp!Speed and Skill
Plus: It is really fun to watch JT,OK JB RS,MM,BC and the rest of the young Isles develop and grow. Reminds me of the 70′s Isles(Denis Potvin,Bossy ,Trotts,etc..)
Plus:Knowing we have alot of talent in the pipeline that will be on the Island soon so that we won’t have to watch the players we are not talking about much longer! GO ISLES! -
What a game. It was great to see a little tradition with the the octopus, even though everyone at the game had no clue why. I heard a few ridiculous lies. At the end of the third abdlkader went after meyer after a clean hit and tried to fight him, meyer didn’t want too and gervais stepped right in and wanted to go. That’s a team player. And then he scores.
-
Plus: My first game tonight since the home opener and it was the best game they have played in I don’t know how long.
Plus: Roli gets rewarded for his tremendous efforts this year, i.e. many 40+ save performances and the 58-save one in Toronto, with an easy night 16-save shoutout of the Detroit Red Wings at home.
Minus: The media and some fans making too much out of Roli’s performance tonight. He did not have much to do. He should not have gotten the #1 star in a 6-0 blowout dominating performance. There were other candidates like Shremp and OK.
Even: The Isles completely dominated tonight – were quicker, were the first to every loose puck, won every battle, and were as crisp as crisp can be. But, let’s not all get ahead of ourselves. The Detroit Red Wings hockey team was NOT present tonight at Nassau Coliseum.
-
Plus: Think of the improvement we’ve seen in Josh Bailey from his first handful of NHL games to now. Now, with that in mind, imagine what we can see from John Tavares a year from now, as he acclimates to the NHL.
I’m pumped for the race this season (and at the rate the rest of the east is going, it probably will be a race), but absolutely ecstatic thinking about our guys in the 2011, 2012 playoffs and beyond! As JT and JB continue to get stronger and more consistent, and add some playoff experience… !!! -
All i gota say is reguardless if the redwings looked lifeless or not. the islanders looked like a different team. it looked like the boys communicated really well out there nd it showed with there plays getting out of the deffensive zone as well as the neutral zone something that has plagued the team for most of the season. actually nice to see the islanders create some odd man rushes and do some good things on the rush. also rolly is a rock in net he made that huge save on rafalski that was a magnificent save closed his blocker arm as rafalski tried going 6 hole on him. who knowa had he scored to make it 2 1 coulda been a different game. overall great performane by all the islanders. O and not to be meen but witt should stay on the ir for the rest of the season hes just not fit to play islander style hockey.
-
It’s funny how good we look when we are clicking.. it will be something to see when JT, Blake, Frans, and Dougie start burying them as well.. this is only 4 wheels on our 6 wheeler going, just wait until those other 2 wheels hit the ground and start rolling!
-
my only minus would be that fan throwing the octopus onto the ice. That kind of shenanigans should be reserved for the playoffs.
-
i’ll tell you what more can be said about dwayne roloson: when’s the last time you saw a goalie–any goalie, let alone one in an islander jersey–swing his stick past the far post when an opposing player is coming around his right side looking to tuck one in? i’ll tell you when: it was a fellow by the name of smith, a pickup from the kings back in the early 70′s, liked to drink beer a lot, especially from the cup. way to go dwayne, you’ve proven to be an awesome upgrade on a team that needs consistent, competitive goaltending every night. i don’t know about snagging a vezina at season’s end but how about we all start some whispers about the hart trophy?
-
How do you bring an octopus into NCVMC? Does security waive those things through?
Minus: that middle school band from Portchester which played an unrecognizable version of “God Bless America”. Are all band members female nowadays???..saw maybe one boy in the band.
Plus: DiPietro managed to skate on and off the ice without injuring himself.
Plus: Chili!!!!
-
Watching the replay of the game, Tavares didn’t play bad at all. He had his chances and his shots were stopped. He positioned himself well and was on the ice when others around him scored. He’ll eventually put some more in the net, but shouldn’t be upset with his performance in this game.
-
Jeff Tambellini, Nate Thompson, Richard Park and Jon Sim, OOPS! Go Isles!
-
What can you say. In the words of Jim Fassel “all my chips are on the table, this team is making the playoffs.” This team will make the playoffs. If your confidence does not go up after that 6-0 shallacking of one of the best teams in the league then dont bother to put the uniform on. This team is ahead of schedule. They are making the playoffs.
LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!
-
Being an Islander fan I was half expecting the team to give up 4 quickies in the 3rd! Amazing amazing game to watch, no two ways about it.
Plus – everything the Isles did
Minus – the dope who threw the octopus on the ice during play, I understand the significance – just wait for a stoppage next time. -
Plus – Isles team performance vs Det
Plus, Plus – Ban on inane postings about Thompson, Sim, Park, Tamby, etc. About time, CB.
-
Man I am glad to see Bailey breaking out. He is showing all the haters out their what SnoJanks saw in him. Schremp has also been playing great. This is an extremely young team and they got nowhere to go but up. This was a statement victory for this young team. GO ISLES.
oOo and…
Minus-Greg Wyshenski from Yahoo Puck Daddy calls the Islanders a “Powder Puff” and questions why the wings would bother playing Jimmy Howard against the laughing stock Islanders.
Plus-Isles fans flood the comments during the game/ -
AMAZING GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ISLANDERS, I BELIEVE IN YOU, PLEASE MAKE PLAYOFFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Congrats to shrempy on his first career multigoal performance…I was hoping he’d get the hat trick…KO not on team USA is blasphemy
-
hey islanders fans start to have some faith these are the games this young team is supposed to win at home against a good team. if you don’t expect to win these games than the islanders are not a playoff team — which i think — in the end they will be one of the 8 teams in the post season
-
All I can say is WOW…
Plus – KO + JT + JB, that’s a bona-fide NHL first line.Minus – Burke is gonna regret leaving KO home, I think.
CB, is it time to let JT watch a few games from the press box yet? OR does Gordo not change a thing till the team puts out a stinker?
-
Plus – near perfect game, d scoring, BTO line, schremp, moulson, roloson, streit, bergie
Seeing how Bailey has progressed I’m starting to think that the Islanders drafting out of the lottery pick range won’t make much of a difference on getting another quality player.
Okposo relieved of the pressure of trying to make team USA and his goal drought is now a distant memory. He’s becoming the beast once again. He’s looking more like Forsberg.
Tavares last two games have shown him to be involved in all of the dirty areas. The goals will come again and then they will be in bunches. He looked defeated 10 days ago and now he seems to want it again. Thanks for the wakeup call Jovo?
Roloson with an easy workload tonight, should start Saturday even though they need to get DP going. Maybe start DP on game one of a back-to-back to have a fresh team in front of him and then Roloson on the back end to keep them in it.
Minus – Never throw anything on the ice while the puck is in play. Glad they didn’t put the idiot on TV for his/her glory moment.
-
our islanders have arrived … we are for real… good move putting witt out of the lineup… he is a slow of feet….and hurts at the d line… the islanders have a great young core… and bailey is reminding me of #19 brian trotts…. garth did a great job drafting this kid what a star we have in the making jt will get better the whole team will as well lets go islanders!
-
cant help but feel like we turned some type of corner in the rebuild process last night .
yeah I know , temper my enthusiasm .
-
When can we start the “Roloson for Vezina” talk?
-
Who were those guys and what did they do with the Islanders???
-
@ #83, I was wondering the same thing… “Whats that stink? Oh, you’ve got an octupus… Go right ahead, enjoy the game.” How does that happen???
-
Josh Bailey – When you draft a player with great character and work ethic he will develop and blossom. This is just the begining!
-
Great enthusiasm all game.
A great reason to leave Witt out of the line-up. -
Plus–Best victory in years was witnessed by a pretty good crowd, for a week night. 12,000 maybe?
-
Ditto all that’s been said about Bailey, Okposo and Roloson (I really hope he’s considered the “A” goalie by the staff and gets the bulk of the games). Great job by Gordon hanging onto Schremp when so many earlier in the year called his pickup a failure and wanted to see him released simply to pare down roster numbers. I hope Robbie keeps it up.
Two players looked much improved — Tavares and Streit. Hopefully JT breaks out soon.
Great to see Bergenheim back in the lineup.
I’ve been one of the guys clamoring for him to get back in (and have Thompson sit). About all that, I’m not going to kiss your foot, CB, like some of the others have about your “ban.” Discussion about who is in the lineup and who’s not for your favorite team is certainly going to stir up chatter. I’m sorry if it got too much for you, but that’s what happens when you have passionate fans.
That all said, I am so happy that you started up this great site and have given us Islander fans a forum to read insightful news about our favorite club.
Thank you so much, CB, and hope you enjoy a few quiet moments until the next game.
Go Isles! -
12,254 to be exact according to NHL statistics. On another note, a good number were Red Wings fans who were expecting to watch their team destroy us in our own building. Thank you for your money, Red Wings fans, and thank you for your teams lackluster play last night!
-
Agreed CB, I thought the kiss-cam on the Red Wings bench was very childish and bush league. They have done this before to other teams as well, and I really wish they would stop. Bad job by the game day operations department.
-
Just came from a great IBC club event with Billy Jaffe, Bergie and Freddie Meyer – so much nicer talking and hanging out with these guys after a win.
Let’s go Isles!
-
i agree with you cb – not having a game messes up our momentum – nhl schedulers have done that to us all season – were scary (in a bad way ) when we have more than two days off – we seem to be good with smaller breaks between games – hope im wrong sat
great game boys
islander nation we have a hockey team to be proud of
go isles -
So how long till we get to anoint Baily, Tavares and Okposo as the “Chili Line?”
-
Was it a double chili night? If so, that’s classic.
-
I did not know that Roy said that about Poulin. That is good news. Perhaps these statements and positive showings by Islander prospects in national tournaments can help draw some interest from big name/talented free agents in the upcoming offseason.
Minus (because someone has to do it) an octopus on the ice…in NVMC…during a regular season game…interupting play…while the Wings were losing?
This feels like a topic for the “Really?!?” segment of the Weekend Update on SNL with Seth and Amy.
-
Plus: KO, being a leader, said in his pergame interview, “when we’re playing our game we can skate with anybody”. Love the confidence.
Plus: Bailey
Plus: Schremp is talented and maybe he will be a councilation prize for all those 1st round stars we lost and watched come to their own in other teams sweaters.
-
+ Even though he didn’t score, thought Tavares had his best game in weeks
+ After coming close a few times, Roloson gets a shutout
+ Only 3 points out of 5th place
EVEN – A 6-0 trashing of the Red Wings isn’t even front page news on NHL.com or ESPN.com. Still no respect!
+ watching this team growing and developing together into a very fun team to watch with a very promising future
-
#65 (Mike) I believe that the Okposo snub was due to the fact that we took Tavares whn Toronto clearly said that they wanted him. It’s Burke payback. Apparently this is a part of Burke’s Belligerent/Truculent plan. Just kidding, actually I think Burke snubbed him because he was in a scoring funk. More importantly, perhaps the snub is what helped add some fire to his performance.
-
@116. You get used to this team not getting any respect. I happen to enjoy it. It will make it that much sweeter when the Isles make the playoffs and shock all the “experts” that picked them to finish dead last in the league.
On another note, Bailey’s ascendance is jaw dropping. No one around the league (the talking heads, anyway) pay much attention to the Isles so it is completely under the radar, but he is quietly turning into a force to be reckoned with. This will force defenders to pay more attention to him, freeing up the other players on his line. You saw it last night with JT. He played well even though he didn’t grace the score sheet. Mark my words – he’s going to break out real soon.
-
Privet from Russia…. Great To see The Islanders Continue to Make strides in their Play!!
Even Bruno Gervais scored a goal ..lol
Bolster the Defence Garth and let the real Playoff drive begin!
Look forwrad to seeing meaningful games in Late Feb!
Lets go Isles… Lets Go Islanders!!
-
Great to see Okposo take the Olympic snub the right way. Just keep producing and Burke will have plenty of explaining to do.
Break up the Islanders!
-
Plus – The new Islander mascot – The Octopus! The guy who threw it on the ice did it in the aisle right next to me. He raised his fist in the air and took off for the exit with the yellow shirts chasing him.
Plus – Living through a real re-build as we see these kids develop before our eyes.
Plus – Seeing Bertuzzi be a total non-factor on the ice.
Plus – They’ve stopped saying “There’s a penalty on the ice” on the PA whenever there’s a penalty. Now he just says “Penalty”. I can live with that.
Plus – I don’t see anyone complaining about “team speed” anymore.
Plus – A new 4th line of Weight – Park – Bergenheim is not too shabby.
Minus – If you’re going to have this chuck-a-puck thing, does it really matter if some pucks hit the ice a few seconds early. (I’m reaching for a minus here)
-
Will be rentors or sellers in feb? My answer is both’ Garth keep an open mind.
-
Ko def deserved to be on the squad but maybe it was the hockey gods looking out for us , after seeing some our guys get hurt in the juniors , maybe the time off and time to work with his team and develop chemistry isn t the worst thing. KO we know you belong on that squad and will problably be the captain in 2014-
-
Plus – Isles fans applauding old friends KJ and Ozzie
-
Last night started the downfall of the Red Wings. They’re time is up. Maybe they will take Biron off our hands for a second round pick. He shouldn’t be traded for a rental defenseman. We can also claim schneider or someone else off waiver if we want to.
-
nevermind for the Vezina…i hate to over react..but if they make the playoffs..u gotta consider rollie for the Hart for the reasons…
1) we were a last place team last year
2) one of the lowest scoring teams in the league and one of the less skilled.
3) he has single handledly stole games (see 60+ saves in Toronto) -
Snow officially goes from Monkey to Maven with the development of Josh Bailey, signing of Matt Moulson and pick up of Rob Schremp…pass the salt as I eat my hat!..even the bathrooms smelled less last night!
-
What a fantastic game, so good to see everything clicking. Can’t believe no game till Saturday. Love it when the team plays so well. Lack of NHL coverage on the blow out of detroit not appreciated. Let’s get those Sabres!! Go Isles
-
I saw the light go on for KO and now its going on for Josh. That’s confidence. Wow what a noce surprise to see Kenny Jonsson. Great game last night. No minuses!
-
Watching this team develop together as a whole has been the most exciting part of this season, in my opinion. Yes, there have been ups and downs, but I feel like there has definitely been more ups, especially recently. It’s been very fun and exciting to watch and be a part of.
Bailey seems to really be “getting it” too, which is great. I’m certainly thrilled that we drafted him rather than Filatov at this point, especially after the recent news of Filatov bad-mouthing the Blue Jackets organization and the possible talk of him staying in Russia.
Let’s hope the team keeps up the solid play through the Olympic break, gets some rest (except for Streit), and come out of the gate flying when the NHL season resumes after the Olympics. It could prove to be a very fun March-April-and beyond…
LET’S GO ISLANDERS!!!!!
-
ha ha. love the schizophrenic nature of fans. we play a horrendous game just a week ago and the sky is falling and now we are on top of the world.
-
They were awesome….Tavares though is a very weak skater. He definitely needs power skating and skate with legs closer together. He is losing speed and power, was knocked off the puck to easily IMO..
-
1. Yes, it was great but let’s not be booking our finals tix just yet. Just like we shouldn’t be panicking when they lose, we shouldn’t get too high when they go on a run.
2. Vezina Trophy for Rolo? C’mon. :shakes head: Anyone see the sick performance by two real candidates last night? I mean, of course Lundqvist of the Rags (ptooi) versus Brodeur of the Devils (ptooi). 0-0 with Brodeur winning in a SO. Something like 95+ saves between them.
3. Don’t get worried about JT. He’ll come around in time, especially if they’re winning and Bailey and KO take the heat off him. The best way to make sure JT is a mess all year? Ask Ron Wilson how he’s handling Phil Kessel right now. What a disaster.
-
Man o Man i think its time roloson should just stay in net he gets soo much support for the team.. Its time we turn it into high gear and crush every team. They way they played last night thats what i want to see
-
Minus: The continued use of the new goal song. Makes us look like Ranger fan wannabes!
-
I don’t want to take anything away from the game the boys played last night………fantastic………but that Red Wing team is not the same team as days past. There is an element missing. Take the win. Don’t get cocky.
-
….by the way CB, did you crop Garth’s face in that picture of the goalies????
-
Extend Roloson’s contract!!!
-
@Frank nyc (#93) – Might wanna reread that again. Wishynski didn’t say that. He was quoting a Wings blog.
-
The Hockey Gods were good to the Isles….the Detroit Red Wing’s coach forgot their players at home…just a mirage on ice…
-
What is this lack of coverage that everyone is talking about? CB, 3 newspapers and NHL.com all covered the game. What more do you want?
-
“Burke is gonna regret leaving KO home, I think.” –
i don’t think so. that’s why burke is a jerk. the okposo snub might end up being a great thing for this team.“Bolster the Defence Garth” – damn right, priority #1-D. #1A- tough guy who can play a little.
i wouldn’t go so far as to invoke “Denis Potvin,Bossy ,Trotts,etc..)” yet, but watching them jell as a group, it’s hard not to get excited and at least be reminded. and who deserves it more than us?
-
Staten Islander @15 – Be careful what you wish for when you say ‘Put them in the West!’. Kansas City would be in the west.
-
The isles took over the coliseum ? When did this take place?
-
I wanted to address those Isles fans who will inevidebly bash this same team we’re all praising today.
Let’s not get too high or too low on our young team. This is a very inexperienced, young team and there will be some big ups and downs, so maybe next time, when they aren’t so stellar or play a bad game, let’s not get so down on them, calling for the heads of everyone, from Bailey, JT, to Gordan, Wang and Snow. This team isn’t this great and they aren’t that bad either. They are competitive in the 2nd year of a rebuild.
Patience is a virtue and Isles fans have had allot of practice at it.
Let’s Go Islanders!
-
Can someone explain to me why the Islanders are not leaving DiPietro in Bridgeport for the next month or so on a more lengthly conditioning stint? Why are the Islanders letting him work off the rust in the middle of a playoff race? I want to see him get back to form but not at the expense of losing crucial points.
-
Awesome game….very entertaining. I think Bailey can eventually be a point-per-game player. I love the top line of Bailey-JT-KO. I’m sure JT will snap out of his funk. He almost had a couple last night. And what can I say about KO. You always notice him out there. The rest of the lines played great too….total team effort. And I’m real happy to see Schremp on a roll especially since I wanted Snow to pick him up on waivers to begin with. I really like the line combinations for the most part right now. I feel the team can win more than there share of games as long as they come to play every night.
-
Ricky’s back because AHL conditioning stints can last only two weeks.
-
And I agree with the kiss-cam thing. Do that to the Rag$, not a classy organization like the Red Wings. That’s embarassing.
-
Sucks that we have to wait until Saturday for the next game. I’ll probably listen to the Soundtigers games this week – Wed. we have the Phantoms and Friday the Bruins.
-
RHL Vin – NHL rules. Conditioning stints are two weeks.
-
144 RHL, I have been thinking the same exact thing. If Roli was in net in the game DP lost I think they had a way better chance of winning that game and we’d already be in a playoff spot, I believe. I hope that Gordon didn’t exactly mean that Roli and DP would be partners as in 50/50. Roli is our #1 goalie and DP should only be the backup goalie for Roli until DP proves he’s is the better option.
-
#144 – conditioning assignments are limited in time. Like two weeks I think. Even if DP started every game for Bridgeport he would only get so much work in, and at some point the guy has just got to play up in the NHL. Also, given the way the team seems to respond to Marty Biron, awesome guy that he is, Gordon may as well take a few starts away from him to see how DP is going to play. For some reason the team loves to lose games with Biron in net, maybe they’d be inspired in front of DP. To be completely frank, I’d like to see Biron moved asap. I think the team doesn’t play for him because they know he’s gone soon, he may only start one or two more games as an Islander, and even if DP can’t hack it Scott Munroe and Nathan Lawson are both having very solid seasons in the Bridge and they couldn’t be worse than Marty Biron.
Even though that response was unnecessarily long, let me just say… OMG!!!hfK!JFHKJFHK That was a pretty sweet game last night, and I’m sure the blogger, not Wysh, but the one that originally came up with the “powder puff” comment got flamed so much he’s way passed well done. I think the Isles should make a tradition out of shutting Detroit out. Two seasons in a row and counting.
-
As my friend said as we left the rink last night “winning is always more fun than losing”. I reserve the right to be cautiously optimistic – don’t expect to lose all the time or win all the time. I enjoy nights like yesterday and cringe when we lose. That’s the breaks of being a fan. Kind of agree that DP should continue his rehab in Bridgeport – I almost feel it’s a given loss now if he’s in goal. Could he please watch how Roly handles the puck – not the play. So do Detroit fans bring the octopii in their underwear (see terrorist bomber)? Actually kind of funny. Looking forward to next win – whenever.
-
I was at last night’s “game” against the Dead Wings, who not only looked like they mail it in, but overnight expressed it.
But that being said, it was the Isles most complete game in a long while. A real easy game to watch without the usual drama. They didn’t beat themselves. They actually did a good job of getting the puck out of their zone. And they didn’t take too many penalties.
A good job all around!
-
Great game. Kids are growing right before our eyes. Time to start the Biron Watch.
-
Re: Ed Flanagan – getting the puck out of the zone has been a huge problem until last night when the wingers were posting up on the halfwall to recieve and distribute passes back to the centerman. Hey CB could you ask Gordon if he tweaked his teams style to play that way against the Wings? and if they are going to be asked to execute those plays ongoing?
-
This should sell some tickets!
-
Thought this would be entertaining. I copied the comment below from a blog discussion on hockey from the Edmonton Journal’s website:
“Anybody notice that Roli had a shutout last night, and Schremp scored 2 goals? Way to go Oilers”
-
Great game by the Isles, but Detroit’s effort, or lack there of, was a joke.
-
Original Rob – post # 31 – I caught that too. Gordon admitted watching TB and Col in the standings last season. Too funny.
-
Have to hand it Biron. He seems to be handling this situation very professionally.
Need to keep him around for a little while just so we can make sure DP really does have a chance to remain healthy.
Once Snow is somewhat confident in DP’s ability to stay in good health, I am sure he will have little problem sending Marty to a contending team in need of a proven back-up or a team in the race that loses their starter.
-
CB I tend to agree with over 90% of the time, but i completely disagree with the Kiss Cam issue…Im pretty sure Babcocks post game interview didnt go as follows “Yea we got beat in all facets of the game tonite, im disappointed with the effort, but the last straw was when they put my guys on the kiss cam, that was just uncalled for”…the Kiss Cam is there for fan entertainment just like the girls skating around the ice in bikinis, if any player is even remotely paying attention to them their focus should be in question, these are pro athletes and im gonna say the equip mgr might be the only one on Detroits bench who even was aware of the Kiss Cam last nite….
-
I remember reading a quote from one of the islander’s players. wish i could recall who it was. It was right before the season started. The player said “This team was going to surprise some people.” CB do you remember which player you got that quote from? Wow I think the islanders are past the surprising people and now working on shocking people. What a dominating performance. Go Islanders
-
If I were Gordon, I would stay on Roli until he has a bad game. That means he plays Sat. instead of DP and the make a decision on the Mon game against the Devils based on Sat. game. In short I think the team’s progress in the standings is more important than DP’s development. If gordon feels otherwise I would suggest that DP gets more game time at Bridge. After all Biron is still on the team.
-
#163 I’m pretty sure it was Weight, never heard a player rave about LI so much. Yeah he came to us at the end of his career, but I would love to him stick around in some capacity.
-
4theisles – DP cannot go back to Bridgeport. His conditioning stint is over and he has a one-way NHL contract.
He is here to stay…. unless he gets hurt.
-
Thanks fellas. I forgot about the 2 week rule.
-
Keep in mind that one way/two way contracts have nothing to do with the team’s ability to send a player down. It simply relates to wages. A one-way means they receive their NHL salary regardless of whether they are on the big club or not. A two-way means they receive an AHL wage when sent down. Keep DP down past the two-week conditioning stint and he is exposed to waivers on the way back-up. Regardless of what you think of the guy or whether or not another team would claim him, there’s no way the club would expose him to waivers. Of course, he could develop a new “injury” and be sent back for another conditioning stint (which is likely what happened with the “leg stiffness” from a few weeks back, which extended his stay in BP…)
-
All I’ll say is this is the most excited I’ve seen my dad about the Isles since the 2001-02 season. Playoffs or not, this is awesome!
-
#163 I think that was Doug Weight or one of the other vets. I remember thinking you don’t usually hear that from a vet unless he believes it and I trusted the source to know what he was talking about which is why I think it was Doug.
-
LouD I think youre right, Doug did say that- but it may have been others as well because when your Captain talks like that the kids tend to pick it up!
-
Steve I completely agree. For the first time since the 06-07 season has the Islanders season been this exciting.
I am also extremely happy for Rob Schremp. In the 2004 draft, I had hoped the Islanders would have taken him instead of Petteri Nokelainen, but I’m glad to finally see him excelling and happy the Islanders finally took him sooner or later.
-
I understand the people who are being cautious about celebrating last nights win because of the Wings road trip and what seemed like lack of enthusiasm but last year the team would’ve lost that game. They’re showing progress and have definitely got better as a team from last season and that’s all we need to see out of a rebuilding franchise. Steady improvement means things are on track and actually they’ve improved more than anyone had thought they would. Way to go to the players, coaches, and management/scouts. By the way, how in the h-e double hockey sticks did JT miss that opportunity in front of the net, all alone with the goalie, puck on his tape? Isn’t that what he’s supposed to do best?! I know he played better last night but come on already, there wasn’t a defender within two feet of him and he kept it low eventhough the goalie went to his knees! Wake up Johnny!
-
D’freakin’wayne Roloson, the man. DP who??
-
Missed the game because I am in cancun. Figures that with all the games i go to the one where they blow a good team out I would miss. It is nice to be in Cancun. I am wearing my Okposo shirt with pride down here.
-
Must say that was one of the most enjoyable games to watch in a LONG LONG time
-
BJ (163). Agreed.
I agree w/CB most of the time, but the kiss cam thing was silly. Let’s not take things too seriously…. this is a game and entertainment.
If someone gets a bug up their butt as a result of being on the kiss-cam, they’ve got to settle down.
No harm here. That’s the entertainment end.
If we want to gripe about something, how about the following:
1. cheezy Isles organ music
2. lack of hipness to music selection
3. lack of hipness in terms of off ice entertainment
4. ridiculous ‘pull out’ Fan-O-meter (we’re regressing).CB, whoever runs the Isles entertainment side should have been S-canned years ago. I hate to say it, but go spend a few bucks and hire away the Raggies guy at MSG.
-
i’m simply curious if DP is going to accept being 1A, rather than 1.
-
I was just comparing stats, it is unreal that Callahan made USA over okposo. Brian Burke has to be the worst choice for GM that USA has ever chosen
-
moulson, bailey, nielsen, Tavares, Okposo, Streit. 6 guys possibly over 40+ points this year? I would love to see that
-
callahan? how bout drury. at least callahan can skate. drury made the team cause he was a great little leaguer 20 years ago. his rangers coach doesnt even play the guy.
great game for isles but dont go getting yourself all nuts, i have never seen a team in the nhl mail in a game that bad in my life. id swear detroits players bet the isles. they did not even try a bit to get back in that game. not one shift did they throw a hit, try to start a fight, nothing. shameful effort by them.
-
jon from nj (179): Id think he has already accepted being #2 at this point, and then in time he can work himself up to being #1A.
-
CJ (178): cheezy organ music belongs in hockey! And I would like the music to be LESS “hip” and more rock- hipness is for roller rinks. Im totally with you on the Fan-o-meter thing though lol.
-
CB, would it be out of line to start mentioning Roloson as a Vezina Trophy candidate, even thugh it’s still a little early for that kind of talk. His play has been stellar.
-
# 174 – LouD – Point well taken, except that this was one of the only games the Isles didn’t lose last season. Joey Mac shut the Wings out in Detroit.
Also, it’s a shame KO didn’t get taken on team USA instead of Drury. Drury is overpaid and I don’t want to say lazy, but he’s trying hard to look that way this season. It’s also great that Drury was picked for his “leadership” abilities and then failed to even be given an “A.” KO has exhibited more leadership ability on the ice this season than Drury has exhibited in the last five.
-
Okposo situation with Team USA is bogus. Even Ranger fans thinks Drury shouldn’t be on team. Anyone who has seen Kyle play knows he should be on team. That’s ok. Kyle will be on the next 4 Olympic teams.
CB is right on the money. Bailey is breaking out and its just like Okposo last year. He clearly looks a like a young confident NHL player and not a lost rookie.
Finally, I think this team is just going to get better as the season continues. Playoffs will depend on whether Garth decides to make any minor cosmetic changes to add some veteran help.
-
You can’t compare okposo to drury making the team or not making the team because Drury is a center and Okposo is a wing. Okposo has cases to be on the team over Callahan, David Backes and even Dustin Brown.
-
#182-Roli does not even crack the top 10 for wins, GAA, or Save%. With that said, his play for the isles has been absolutely superb and no question has kept them in playoff contention to this point. But, contention for the Vezina? No way.
-
CB….I need a blog….going through withdrawel here!

Didnt Joey Mac shut them out last year in detroit 1-0? Did you mean shut out at home??
