ISLANDERS at DALLAS, 8:35 pm – DiPietro Returns
Live Chat Tonight; There’s a roster move to make
FanHouse: DiPietro Makes First Start in a Year

UPDATED at 12:50 pm - The Islanders try to stay undefeated in 2010 when they play in Dallas tonight. As first reported by Katie Strang, Rick DiPietro makes his NHL comeback after more than a year. Stay tuned to Katie Strang on Twitter for reaction from Dallas.
Live Chat Tonight: In honor of DiPietro’s return, Point Blank will host a rare Friday night live chat beginning with the opening faceoff at 8:35 pm EST. Learning from Wednesday night’s traffic jam, let’s mark the second period as the only time for some Q & A. In the first, third and anything that happens after 60 minutes, our main focus will be on the game and DiPietro.
*
On a smaller but also intriguing note, the Islanders should be on the verge of a roster move. Sean Bergenheim is healthy enough to play, but not yet been taken off Injured Reserve. This has provided Sean additional time to heal from the 1-2 week rib injury that has sidelined him a month while the Islanders play 5-1-1 hockey in their last seven games. This has also bought the Islanders some time as they ponder how to break the logjam.
Bergenheim’s addition to the roster – and boy, wouldn’t his relentless puck pursuit help John Tavares – will put the Islanders at 24, one over the maximum. They would be carrying 14 forwards (plus Tim Jackman on IR), seven defensemen (plus Radek Martinek on IR) and the always-popular three goaltenders.
If Bergenheim plays tonight or Saturday, someone has to go somewhere before puck-drop. If he is held out the rest of the trip, and no one gets hurt, someone’s got to go by Tuesday. Let’s look at the options.
A. Waive Freddy Meyer: The Fantastic IVth has been the VIIth defenseman. On the last year of a one-way contract, Meyer would likely clear waivers and could be a solid first call-up from Bridgeport. On the other hand, he is a capable NHL defenseman and quality person, so you hope he gets an opportunity elsewhere if it’s not going to be on the Island.
B. Demote Andrew MacDonald: This would not make any sense since MacDonald has been playing a regular shift on defense while Meyer has been a healthy scratch, but AMac is on a two-way contract. MacDonald’s demotion to Bridgeport would be criminal, but it’s the cleanest, easiest move. Scott Gordon has played him more than 20 minutes in three of the last five games. Nah, the Islanders wouldn’t dare do it.
C. Waive Jeff Tambellini: The Islanders have been reluctant to waive him in the past, for fear that he’ll become a 30-goal scorer elsewhere in the league. Yet – deservedly sometimes, and sometimes not – his sentences in the doghouse come quickly and his stays are longer. If someone hasn’t started a “Set Tamby Free” Facebook page yet, they should. (UPDATED at 11:00 am - now some has; see Comments). If Jeff cleared waivers, Bridgeport could use his offense.
D. Trade Martin Biron: Could happen. The rest of the league knows what Biron is as a locker room presence and as a goaltender. His nightmarish 2-11-2 record doesn’t diminish his value. That value is a third-round pick. Oh, the wonders his positive outlook and goaltending could do for a team down in the dumps like Edmonton.
E. IR Somebody: Maybe Doug Weight’s shoulder could use another week’s rest. Maybe Marty Biron comes up with a mystery ailment and gives Snow a little more time to make a move. If Bergenheim doesn’t play this weekend, maybe someone else actually gets injured.
F. Pull a Surprise: Trade Bergenheim to Chicago for Patrick Sharp or Kris Versteeg (we all know the Blackhawks’ GM’s dad has always liked Sean). Oh wait, that would still have the Islanders at 24. That’s okay, I just had to get Sharp and Versteeg’s name in a post this season. Their names have been brought up everywhere else.
G. None of the Above: That’s usually how these things work. By the way, that last one is not happening.
I’m sure you have some other ideas. Make your pick and talk about tonight’s game. Comment Guidelines.

The only two legitimate options are either waiving Meyer or sending Mac down…and as much as you want to play players based on merit, you don’t want to loose players. Send Mac down and his time will come.
-
id rather see Biron get traded. Maybe when we start a goalie against Philly other than Biron maybe we’ll actually WIN that game.
-
I think you have to hold on to Biron for two reasons –
1. you need to see DP play some games first.
2. you’d possibly get more at the trade deadline.just my two cents.
-
I still think Tabmellini should be playing. He’s gotten a raw deal.
-
RAMen there is a part of me that agrees with what you say, but then again FMIV did clear waivers last year . . . Just hope maybe he can get a chance somewhere else
-
Waive Meyer or IR someone are my votes. Demoting AMac is easy, but he’s played well. The IVth has become a light fixture in the press box.
-
Waive Meyer, it is sad that Tambellini is stuck behind ten year goal scoring phenom Jon Sim…. What?
-
I also believe Tambellini should be playing. It’s wrong for Gordon to scratch him regularly even though he had some production in his limited action.
-
I think there’s a very good chance that Meyer would clear waivers. Plenty of other, more experience and talented defensemen have passed through waivers. And if he goes elsewhere, so be it I guess. Not life changing. Andy Macdonald has been playing too well to send down right now. We’re successful in our last few weeks of play, can’t make changes now.
-
No way they can trade Biron. I’m not convined DiPietro will be able to stay healthy more than a couple periods so I don’t think that’s an option. It’s a tough call, gotta be either waiving Meyer or sending McDonald down.
-
I’d prefer they part ways with Gervais and get FMIV back on the ice. We might be able to get a 5th rounder for Bruno.
Congrats to Sim for not being a solution to alleviate the logjam this year!
-
You know what my vote is after the chat last night although I know it’s not going to happen, waive Nate Thompson. There is someone that would DEFINITELY clear waivers the market for a -11 forward with 1 goal who is seemingly on the ice for every PP goal against who can’t hit an open net isn’t high…Just because the guy tries hard, doesn’t mean he belongs on an NHL roster. If Tambellini gets waived over Nate Thompson that’s just criminal. Nate Thompson has no chance to be part of a succesful future here, yet Tambellini still could.
My guess is Meyer is the odd man out. We’ll see.
-
Tambellini should play just for the shootout factor alone. Those are points in the standings.
-
MacDonald has definitely impressed and I’d hate to see him go to BP, but seems like the “safe move” might be made – just my hunch. As far as what should happen . . . I guess Tamby or Meyer have to go through waivers. How long will this Gordon/Tamby thing go on for? I still think he has more to give to this team, but I’m also not an NHL coach.
No matter what happens it won’t be earth-shattering and hopefully Bergie gets in and brings some energetic puck-pursuit back!
-
Have to agree with most everyone else, Tambellini has gotten a very raw deal with Gordon. The guy sits and sits, and when given the opportunity shows effort and has contributed offensively (not even talking about the shootout). Him and Gordon need to sit and work things out because like you said CB, he could be a 30 goal scorer in the right situation, and lets be honest, the Isles need one of those badly. So lets get that done already!
Glad to see Bergy back, guys gives it his all every shift.
-
Last time Snow waived Meyer PHX picked him up. Waive/demote Thompson? Even though I like Tamby, but I think Sim and Schremp should still be in the lineup since both are on hot streaks. Let Tamby/Bergy fight for Thompson’s spot for now. When Sim/Schremp start to cool off then start mixing and matching the four of them. But on a positive note, it’s nice to have a little logjam.
-
I wouldn’t trade Biron just yet, until Ricky has put in a solid two weeks.
I wouldn’t waive Meyer, while not great and really an AHL guy he’s way better then Bruno.
I would waive Bruno. He’s the worst of all the players mentioned above and it would insert Meyer back into the line up. Trade him or waive him but it’s past time.
Sim would be my next choice. Could they trade him? Who know’s his recent hot streak might make it possible.
What is more intersting is the move they’ll need to make when Jackman comes back.
I’m surprised CB opened up the Sharp/Veerstage can of worms on this site but he asked for it.
-
I say Biron gets a mysterious illness for a week or two. We need to see if DP is back and able to contribute this season before trading Biron at this point. We should only keep one of Schremp/Tambellini on the roster after this is dealt with though. I don’t think both should be in the lineup, and my vote is for Schremp.
-
Bergy doesn’t have to battle for a spot with anyone on this team. He’s one of our top wingmen.
-
I agree that Tambs has gotten a raw deal…maybe on a more skilled team he isn’t in the discussion but I think he has done well enough to continue to show promise with enough production to warrant a spot
I hate to say this because he’s proved to be the heart and soul type of player that we all love but Sim should be the odd man out
-
The easy thing would be to waive Meyer but our depth on defense would be scary if someone was injured.
Personally it would be great if they could dump Park for a draft pick. He is the ‘leader’ of one of the leagues worst PK’s and is a -19 while playing 4th line minutes. Not sure what purpose he serves at this point.
As for Tamby; Schremp has basically taken his spot in the lineup. Dressing both is redundant.
-
I’ve always liked Richard Park, but to me it seems like his heart is not in it this year as in years past. Perhaps they should deal him to L.A. for a draft pick.
-
Isn’t Nate Thompson on a 2 way? Another possibility would be sending him down to Bridgeport and moving Sim or Comeau to the 4th line.
-
IMO Meyer and Park are both useless. Biron also if DP is healthy. The three of them can be traded. Let Tamby play and Sutton sign a new deal.
-
CB,
I like options D or F….
-
Tough deal for the team but they created this mess. Tamby should play, if they lose him they will regret it. As for Meyer, good luck elsewhere. The team blew this by keeping Park and Sim. Sim has been more effective therefore I would also let Park go! Biron is our insurance policy for another month before until Ricky gets in NHL game shape.
-
Waive Freddy. As mentioned above the Isles don’t dare get rid of Biron yet. DP hasn’t played a single game for Christ’s sake! Let’s see if he can walk yet alone play goal.
-
I’m not sure that it’s prudent to do anything that may reduce our number of defensemen. They’re always getting hurt.
-
R U Kidding me, Park gives %100 every night, I agree he has been quiet this year but I’m not sure if it is lack of effort, his numbers are lacking but hopefully it’s just a matter of time before he breaks out.
-
Trade biron asap for any pick that’s slot of $$ it saves Wang to spend on someone who will play in real games.
-
They should tell Park he’s hurt, as much as I like him
-
Tamby has to go. Can’t take the chance of losing Meyer – who is next in line when (not if – this is the Islanders) we suffer our next injury on the blue line? Cupboard is bare in Bridgeport.
BTW, waiting for the trade deadline isn’t always the best option – Campoli and Comrie (addition by subtraction) for a 1st round pick was the deal of the year.
-
My thought would be to package a deal that includes Bergie or Tambie, Meyer and Biron for another Forward? or Edmonton for Souray and Hemsky. Souray and Streit on the PP hmmm montreal had a strong PP with those two together. Then you can drop KO back down low where he can use his size.
-
If you watched the first period of the CO game you had to notice what a liability that Gervais is. I don’t know if he can be the guy that they need to lose to make 24, but to me he is not part of the present or future.
-
I wonder why thompson wasn’t one of your options. Is he washing YOUR CAR as well? I would think that Park, who seems to be playing hurt, would be a good choice to rest as well.
Tambellini wouldn’t make it through waivers. Trading him is a better option. He has to have as much value as Biron at this point, and neither will be on the roster next year. -
Its a good a problem to have if we are disputing who should be in or out the lineup…. that means we have good depth.. when was the last time our islanders could actually have that problem… good sign!
-
….waive sim and give Tamby his spot. Meyer is expendable
-
Can’t waive Freddy on the chance he will get picked up. We just don’t have another quality Defenseman. Can’t trade Biron until we know if DP can really play.
Snow is going to have to engage in some other shenanigans to juggle the roster. -
There’s no way you can trade biron until dp proves he won’t break down again. Thompson should be sent down if possible as he’s hurt anyway. You can’t waive tambs. If we lose meyer it won’t be the end of the world. Just bring up kohn
-
Tambellini may yet become a quality NHL scorer, but he has not started down that path yet; I don’t understand how anyone can say he’s been given a raw deal. His Career stats; GP:168, G:18, A:27, Pts:45 That’s two full season worth of games and 18 goals. He’s also 25, not 20. He’s not real noticable in most games, this year he has played 24 games and scored in four of them. That said, if you watch the shootouts you can clearly see what he brings; an elite level NHL wrist shot.
Now, I’m sure most of you will remember (but may not want to) Olli Jokinen. At one point his stats were; GP:314, G:35, A:52, Pts:87. Then in 2002-03 he scored; GP:81, G:36, A:29, Pts:65, and went on to average 33 goals in the next five years after that. So hope isn’t all lost.
Let’s go Isles!
-
Trade Park or Sim. Trade Biron waive Meyer. No problem with any of those things happening.
-
park is a rfa after this year, gervais has another year on his deal, as much as i like him, i’m thinking if anyone gets waived, its park, maybe they can tell him he’s hurt
-
I feel those who are saying we should trade Park don’t watch the games. Guy gives his heart and soul for the team and is invaluable on the PK. He can win a big draw and if the Islanders were down 5-3 he’s the lone forward I want out there. Plus, look back at the Quote CB posted from Gordon about Park’s plus/minus. When an NHL head coach praises a player like that, he shouldnt go anywhere.
Sim has a role on this team plain and simple. Great job by CB not including him in the post.
I think waiving Meyer is way too risky. We all know injuries happen. Who gets the call if one of the remaining 6 D men gets injured. Dustin Kohn? Last I heard he’s injured as well. Meyer provides depth and we can’t sacrifice depth.
I hope the Islanders stay patient. Make sure Bergy is 100% percent healthy. Snow is in a tough spot but I believe these are the types of “good dilemmas” that GMs like to have.
Tamby it was nice knowing you. I hope you make it down to BPT and you will be the first call up barring an injury.
-
Doug on Jan 8th, 2010 09:43:07 said:
As stated atleast by me, a goal scorer who get’s fourth line ice time and NO PP doesn’t and shouldn’t qualify as getting a chance. Trust me, if Tamby goes elsewhere and gets a chance he will be a 25-30 goal scorer!
-
Keep Park. Waive Freddy or send AMac down…
-
Keep Meyer, he proved himself and never got another chance. He was solid at 6. Send Mac down and let him help out Bridgeport.
-
Chris this one is EASY..
A- waive Bruno Gurvia and or Brendan Witt and play Meyer
B- trade tambilini to the Flames in a package for Eric Nystrom
C- playing DP is a HUGE mistake.. Now that Roloson is hot, why mess with the chemistry by adding Rick to the mix?
-
Better defensemen than Meyer have cleared waivers already this season. There’s no reason to think he wouldn’t. They should waive Gervais though!
-
I just don’t think you can do anything with Meyer b/c the guy has proved he is a capable NHL d-man and we are in short supply. AMac isn’t going anywhere because we didn’t just get another D back, we got a forward back. If the Isles were going to send AMac down and play Meyer they would have done it already.
The only options are mysterious injury, trade (not happening), or demoting a forward.
Good problem to have I guess but the fact is the Isles have too many 4th liners with Sim, Park, Thompson and Jackman. It wouldn’t hurt to rest two of those guys every game and rotate them in and out so to not lose Tamby. Although let’s face it, the guy is simply not going to ever get a shot with this team so long as Gordon is coach unless he magically gets in a game and scores a goal a game for the rest of the year. So I guess trade him for whatever you can get b/c he’s not going to play for this franchise.
-
Just put Andrew MacDonald in Bridgeport, he is a 6th D-man right now…not a big decision….and just use Meyer for a few games…see how Meyer plays the next 2 games …then make a decision next week to Keep Meyer or Recall Macdonald & waive Meyer…..then this would give Snow until the end of next week to trade Biron.
-
#32 – sure Tamby’s only scored in four games, but he’s had multiple goals in two of those games, and he’s got 13 points in those 24 games overall. Since you’re doing the statistical analysis, that’s just over .5 points per game. Though he’s not consistent, he’d put up Kyle Okposo’s point total from last season and double up the points Jon Sim is likely to collect for this season. His consistency is what’s kept him out of the lineup, but he’s contributing this season more than ever and is getting sat more than ever, which is why he is currently getting a raw deal.
-
A number 7 defenseman is extremely valuable, especially in a league where injuries are frequent. I challenge those, in a polite manner, to name me the next defenseman up if we waiver Meyer and somebody gets injured?
-
I’d be happy if I never read “Bergenheim” and “trade” in the same sentence ever again.
-
Doug – to steal a quote – I served with Olli Jokinen, I knew Olli Jokinen, Olli Jokinen was a friend of mine. Tambellini is no Olli Jokinen.
-
let me see our D is weak, MacDonald has played well since his call up, I say waive Meyer, and keep A Mac here the kid play’s a real good defensive game that we truly need at this point.
-
Unfortunately, purely for depth reasons, we cannot trade or expose a defenceman to waivers.
(Not even Bruno Gervais.)
That leaves demoting Andrew MacDonald, trading/waiving Biron, or trading/waiving a forward.
Biron needs to stay at least until DP is battle tested. So as a short term move, I don’t think we can wisely tell him to pack before Tuesday.
The forwards that come to mind, Sim, Tambellini and Schremp, all seemingly have something to offer — and in fact I am actually PLEASED to have Sim on the team this year. Also, I find myself surprised to be saying this, but the Schremp experiment seems worthy of seeing through to the end of the year.
In my mind that leaves Tambellini and MacDonald.
Since MacDonald is the one whom the coaches are trusting with 20 mins of ice time some nights, the answer seems to be that Tambellini must go. Forget points, plus minus, and everything else. If you want to know if a player is valued by a team look at their ice time. MacDonald gets lots — Tambellini, eh, not so much.
I agree Tamb hasn’t really been given an opportunity to get into a rhythm with us, but when you consider that he has not been able to claim a spot on one of our forward lines, which I consider to be the worst in the league (both “on paper” and in reality) for the past 2 years, that says it all.
-
CB- Scotty does love Bergie but so do we.
Sim has busted his butt this year and fills the pest role nicely it would send the wrong message if you banish him to BP, he stays.Tamby hasn’t gotten a raw deal he needs to be more consistent. Tamby has too much upside to risk waiving him. Long stretches in the press box haven’t hurt Comeau or Schremp two of our better forwards lately. Let Tamby earn his ice time. The log jam is a good thing, Tamby stays.
Mac has earned his icetime sending him down sends the wrong message as well, he stays.
Nate and Park aren’t going anywhere.
Too early to trade Biron.
The right move is to waive Freddy he hasn’t played all that well this season. When he has gotten in the lineup he hasn’t played with the determination or desperation that a guy trying to earn a spot in the lineup needs to play with.Lately Moulson/Tavares haven’t earned their ice either but that’s a whole nother discussion.
-
Don’t scare me CB! Haha I think Bergie will definitely make an impact when he gets back. I’m sure he’s raring to go.
-
Lets put sim on waivers. Yes i know he has some goals lately but he is not a part of this team after this season. Let tamby play through the olympic break and decide once and for all what we have in him.
-
They need Weight on the power play. There is just so much more of a feeling of confidence when we have the puck on the power play since Weight has been back, and a complete lack of confidence when Weight was out. Do not put Weight back on IR. Park should catch a cold.
-
Tamby’s in an impossible spot right now, regardless of what you make of the chances he’s already been given. He sits for 10 games, then has to score 4 goals in one night or else he sits again for another 10 games. He must have kicked Gordon’s cat or something, because other players get far more leniency.
-
I am a big Tambellini fan and do not want to see him go. I think he has shown his value to this team in the games he has played and still has good upside. He just needs to do a bit more of what Moulson has done (at Gordo’s urging) — play every game like it may be his last in the league and never give the coach a reason to even consider sitting him.
Separately, I love the idea of Bergy playing with JT.
-
Clearly my favorite option is Versteeg or Sharp. Trade Tamby and Bergy for one of them.
-
I think it may finally be time to cut the cord with Richard Park. He has been a surprisingly good Islander, but his contract is up and he is no longer that valuable.
Comoe and Bergenheim can fill the PK and swing roll (play on any line)…We have plenty of Centers playing wing-so faceoffs should not be a problem. Veteran roll fall back to Weight…and team will bring in new Vets next year (end of road for Sim and Weight as well)
Almost all teams carry a 7th defensemen.
When this team does win it is always close…many OT and Shootouts…..Tambellini/Shremp/Neilson Shoutout Combo is VERY strong.
Thanks Richard Park and Good Luck. -
#44, that’s a line stolen from Lloyd Bentsen… why would you do that?
Jeff Tambellini is the fastest skater with skill on this team. He can shoot. The chances he gets are teasers. He’ll play well, throw the body, and still get pulled from the line up. I don’t know what more the coaching staff wants from him. Once again, he won’t score LESS than 25 goals if he plays on a regular basis.
-
I prefer Gervais to be waived over Freddy Meyer. Mac deserves to stay up, Tambellini should get more ice time, we did miss Bergy..These are actually good problems to have, who stays and who goes thru waivers and possibly back to bridgeport..
-
#20 mw147 – Thompson is on a 2-way but is still waiver eligible if that’s what you were getting at. One has nothing to do with the other – 2-way just sets an AHL salary. Waiver eligibility depends on when you signed your first pro contract and the # of seasons or NHL games that have passed since then. Thompson is waiver eligible but MacDonald is not, even though they both have 2-way contracts.
Mind you, I could see Thompson passing through waivers ok.
-
FMIV cannot go. This D definitely needs a 7th d-man and even more importantly, he’s #6!!
Bruno should be waived, traded, dumped, whatever.AMac stays. I think he’ll continue to improve.
Hate to say it too but Park is who should go. I think Tambellini deserves more of a consistent shot.
I’ve liked Nate this year but ultimately I don’t think he’s much of a difference maker. Utilize his 2-way contract, make him find some other way to be useful in Bridgeport. Can’t move Biron, but I do feel bad for him. And Roli, but I’m sure they knew what they were getting into with this DP drama. I hope it all works itself out though.
And let’s stay undefeated in 2010! -
CB is it at all possible that Gordo & Snow have told Tamby, “you’ve earned a regular spot, just hold on till we can evaluate whom else is staying & going”?
His being scratched so much is puzzling
And I don’t understand all the hate for Sim, He is only a -2, is averaging a point every four games, Draws penalty’s and is a pain in the a**. The -2 should tell you while he doesn’t light the lamp so much, but he is not to blame for the ones going in the other way.
And sitting or sending Andy Mac down before Gervais of even FMIV would be wrong.
But hey at least were not talking about Fowallanov, er somthing like that…
-
Value for Biron is a 3rd round pick? Funny to think that when Guerin fetched a 5th or 6th round last year. If that is the case good bye Marty! Very nice, funny guy however his goaltending skills could be replaced by anyone; he let up so many weak goals this year.
-
Possible Trade Targets for Biron:
LA – VAN – EDM – BUFNot many options for Snow – but LA should trade for him…he is much better than Ersberg and would be a great influence on Quick…Quick & Biron would push each other
-
From a players standpoint it would suck to hear on the road that I got waived, and needed to fly back not knowing what’s going to happen or where I’m playing, no less making plans on moving my family. I would hope for the next two games that Bergie remain on the IR, just in case, and then after the road trip, make the appropriate moves.
-
Dump Gervais or Thompson. I guess losing FMIV is the least harmful option out of what actually contains potential to happen though.
-
A week ago I definitively would’ve said to waive Schremp or Sim. Still don’t see them fitting in the long term plan on LI/Bklyn, so I’d rather give up on one of them than say Tambs. Both deserve a better fate, but hockey isn’t always fair.
-
if you cut FMiv, whos your 7th defensemen in the event of injury. (we have a history of being an injury free team?)
if RDP is healthy, (HUGE IF) the logjam is in net. THREE goalies is a strength, and you deal from strength to shoreup weakness. everybody has got nicks, dents and dings at this point, one of our fowards gets two weeks off after the roadtrip. these things have a way of working themselves out. -
I think the first guy to go should be Bruno – let him cook for the team
-
Nystrom is worse than Tambellini. I don’t know why Islanders fans obsess over former players’ kids.
-
Could someone tell me why Bruno Gervais is still on this team!! He is horrible. He cant even clear the puck. He is by far one of the worst defenseman this team has ever had. Yet they still put him out there in critical situations. If any one should go, it should be “Bruno Give Away”!!
-
Lets not forget that last year Sim was waived and sent to Bridgeport while he was on a point scoring streak. I don’t like the move “now” because we need some grit on this team but in all likely hood Sim would pass through waivers yet again. Just a thought.
No way do they hold off on bringing back Bergenheim. He is one of the best on the forecheck and really adds speed and skill upfront.
They could move Biron quickly as well. I don’t think the team has the confidence with Biron on it. He is a great guy, we all know that but realistically he is not winning games. Munroe was signed with the thinking being he could be a realistic choice for backup. That time is now. If DP falters and you trade Biron you ride Rolie and sit Munroe as bench warmer.
-
not exactly sure what bruno brings to the table. i would take meyer and mcdonald over him w/o question.
-
Waive Witt Goodbye
-
Waive Tambellini or Meyer. How many seasons do you need to hold a roster spot for Tambellini to assess whether he will succeed on Long Island? He may very well somewhere, but it won’t be here.
And I won’t get worked up about losing Freddy Meyer, one of way too many fifth/sixth/seventh defensemen on the Isles.
-
The smartest thing to do is sit tight, and leave Bergy on IR a little longer until (a) someone else gets hurt, or (b) they can work out a trade for Biron. There’s no pressure on them to do anything, and everyone knows that Biron is on the trading block anyway. Garth should bide his time and make the best deal for Biron that he can.
-
The 2pts the NHL gives for shootout wins are over-valued and for that reason alone you should have Tambi on the team. Send Thompson down and waive Meyer. Add Tambi & Bergy.
JoeRiverside -
Trade, Trade, Trade!!!
-
I agree wholeheartedly with #13′s post (as well as many of the others) that Nate Thompson should be sent down. CB, that you didn’t even mention it as an option seems odd. I love PointBlank and the articles you put up, but it seems that you’ve been missing or just glossing over many of the critiques on Thompson. The team has too many 4th liner-types and too little talent too keep ignoring Tambellini over Thompson. If Bergenheim is healthy, and both he and Tambellini are taking a seat over Thompson, then that’s just lunacy. Plus, with Thompson in the lineup, that gives us 6 centers with one or two playing out of position (JT, JB, Weight, Neilsen, Schremp and Thompson). Seems natural to me to sit the least talented of that bunch (obviously Thompson), and put in a more talented winger.
-
I simple do not understand what Scott Gordon sees in Nate Thompson. I never understood it, and I never will. he doesnt put up points and he never has. this guy is a waste and I would prefer to see Tamby on the 4th line over Thompson.
-
do the people that comment on this site actually watch the games ? McDonald is getting ice time because he’s better than Meyer and Brutal Gervais and the way Witt’s going, he’ll pass him soon on the depth chart as well. As for Bergie, good to have him back but he was on pace for a 29 point season (not exactly awe inspiring numbers). Get rid of Park. The PK is ranked 28th in the league and he’s on pace to score 24 freaking points. I don’t care if he gives 1000% effort, the numbers are NOT there for a roster spot. Roli has been awesome and some guys (Baily, Sim, Schremp, Hunter, Franzie) have chosen to step it up while JT, KO and Moulson have cooled off. Here’s to a good weekend in Dallas and Phoenix !!!!!!
-
For example would anyone be mad if this was the trade? I would not. this is sort of what they are probably looking at nothing big.
TO LA: G – Biron 700K
W/C – Park 400KTO Isles: 2010 3rd round pick
RW-Purcell 300K ..he is 23 & after season is a RFA -
Waiving Tambellini would be just dumb. He definately gets the short end of the stick. I can understand why Gordon keeps Sim b/c he is agitator but not fair to bench tambellini. Trading Tambellini im fine with if we can get something good in return.
Sending down MacDonald is also a very poor choice. He already is outplaying grevais bigtime and he play has been on pair with Hillen and Streit.
Waiving Meyer seems like an ok option but why do it if you are light on dman in case of injury. If you waive Grevais or Thompson – both will easily pass thru waivers.
Thought of trading someone like Bergie or Nielson is absolute nightmare. Either one of those guys would be players that would haunt isles forever. Only way you trade one is you get a STUD DMAN in return. Not draft pick or prospect but a STUD.
finally Play DP. see what he got. I agree you dont trade BIRON unless you know DP can tough it out for rest of season.
-
If Mac is sent down or Tamby is waived, I think it is fair to question what exactly do the Isles consider a re-build and going with youth? Your young players should be in there night after night regardless! If not, what is the plan here?
-
Getting DP up to NHL speed and taking playing time away from Rollie will get us closer to best position for the draft lottery. The only reason we are where we are is b/c of the solid play of Rollie. Getting DP back is a project the team has to invest in at some point, so I guess it’s all good. The only way we don’t sink to the bottom is if DP comes back solid, or Rollie plays often, OR the top scorers start scoring often! BTW Wave FMIV…
Let’s Go Islanders! -
Trade Park, Sim, Biron. End of story trade all 3 and bring in some size and picks. Those 3 are all not needed.
-
Per B. Jaffe, via NHL Live through Deb Placey – DP is in goal tonight.
-
DP is playing TONIGHT!!!!
-
Ok the way I see it, this is a good problem to have, it means we actually have some depth
To me A and B cant happen. We cannot afford to either let go of a Dman or demote AMac, he has been solid and I dont see how demoting him does any good
Choice C is an interesting one but I really feel if Tambs got a full chance this season, say playing 20-30 games in a row, his stats would be really good.
Choice D is not an option YET, we have to see how DP does coming back. We need to hold on to Biron for another month.
Choice E, might be the best option here. If Park truly is playing hurt, give him a rest for a few weeks so we can bring Bergy back.
Choice F, A surprise trade would be interesting if its the right one. I do not want to EVER hear Bergy being traded, he is too valuable to us at this point.
Choice G, Not doing anything, probably what will happen, but in this situation I am not sure if Snow can actually do nothing. It will be interesting to see what happens.
My big thing is Bergy is coming back; put him on the 1st line with JT and KO. If that cant get JT going, I dont know what will. I like Comeau and his effort, but I think Bergy has more upside playing with JT. Move Comeau down to another line.
-
billy jaffe called nhl live and said dp is starting tonight
-
Its official – Ricky is playing as Netminder just said in the post above me – I dont feel that great about it – Rolo has been so good I’d like to see him in net against Dallas tonight. I also feel bad for Biron who has been first class and has had some bad luck.
-
so pumped for dipietro. Chris is Ricky one of the classiest athletes you’ve experienced?
-
That sucks I am going to miss him by one game. I bet freakin Biron gets the start tomorrow against the Coyotes

Waive Tambellini or Meyer. How many seasons do you need to hold a roster spot for Tambellini to assess whether he will succeed on Long Island?i think james has this right. it’s been 3 years, 150+ games, and 2 coaches who could not be more different. maybe tambellini could produce more somewhere else, but there’s a reason he is where is for this team. and even though thompson doesn’t score, his willingness to mix it up and overall toughness has value on a team short in those areas. and at this point, i trust the coach on this.
-
i am afraid to watch.
-
Park or Thompson … out! Heart and soul guys are good, but Gordon would be putting his personal preferences over the long-term good of the team by keeping either over Tambellini.
-
H. Any and All of the Above as needed. All of these moves revolve around either spare parts or “potential” not a top prospect. There are so many interchangeable parts that it seems impossible to judge anyone’s true value. Let’s not fall in love with any of the guys that are easily replaced on the bottom end of the roster. If you’re not top 23 on a .500 team its time to make room to give someone else a shot.
-
DP…….DP…….DP…….DP! I never thought I would see the day! Good luck Ricky!!!!
-
Rick’s aggressive play could be a huge asset for us and the system. But let’s not be TOO aggressive…
Good Luck Rick!
-
How is keeping Tambellini over Thompson for the good of the team? You’d be making an already soft team even softer. Not to mention that Thompson leads all forwards in blocked shots, and is one of their best face off men. Tambellini has had 100 chances to crack the top 6 and hasn’t done it, it’s time to move on.
-
On the contrary, I think Tambellini is very close to turning a corner. Something inside just tells me that he can make it. He has a lot of talent.
Jon Sim has been playing well somehow over these last few games. I would hold him to the deadline and try to move him somewhere then. Biron will have to be moved sometime between now and the deadline. Just hope they get what he’s worth.
-
Good to see Ricky between the pipes. Good luck DP.
His ability to handle the puck on dump in’s will really help take some of the wear and tear off of the defence and will also help the transition game. Other then that there is not much upside over Rolie because Rolie has been a star in net for the Islanders.
-
Good Luck DP
-
I personally think that Rolie should have started tonight. Hes’s been hot, and there is no need to cool him off. I would have started DP on Saturday against Phoenix. That being said, I am excited that Rick’s back, and am anxious to see him play.
-
Is trading Roloson even an option? If Dipietro is the future, and IF he proves he can stay healthy this year, wouldn’t we get a better deal for Rolo?
-
I’ll be nervously watching Ricky…every sudden move and bit of contact…..and there tends to be quite a bit of movement and contact in a hockey game, so I will definitely be nervous. Did I mention, I’ll be nervous watching this game.
-
DP let in 3+ goals in every game in the AHL….This is the NHL and a Dallas team that has been pretty bad and looking for an opportunity to win a game…I just dont have a good feeling about this one.
-
@41 is right on Tambellini, 18 goals in 168 games, and I would add that’s over FIVE (5) NHL seasons, so I don’t know how anyone can say he hasn’t been given chances…I see some skill there, but I just don’t see any NHL impact…maybe somebody takes a flyer on him in exchange for a 5th round pick
Oilers a good next stop for Biron – they desperately need goaltending help – but Biron can’t go anywhere until the forever healing Ricky proves he can play
-
DiPietro is not the future. He is part of the past. If we want Roloson, the team MVP, traded let’s also trade our other MVPs Okposo and Taveres. Then we can really get some good draft picks.
-
i am rooting more for dp being healthy and getting back to nhl gameshape than a win… sorry but long term that’s way more important. ahl games won’t do it.
but a question… if you had to choose…
do you prefer a loss tonight but DP plays awesome? or
a win but DP is poor and his teammates save him? -
As the only non family member in the world with #44 Meyer on his jersey, waiving the IVth would break my heart.
-
Welcome back Ricky
-
mtrico (113): Have you been paying attention to Phoenix? They are a hot team this season- Dallas, not as much. The Isles are saving Roloson- their starter- for the Phoenix game because they are going to need him that night… IMO its as simple as that. Rick is NOT the starter for this team- and (hopefully) wont be for a long time.
That being said, I cant believe tonight is the night. Best of luck, Rick. No matter what the score winds up being, Rick playing again is a very good thing for this organization.
-
LOL you actually have a meyer jersey, dude it better have been free. I am really excited about Dp’s return to hockey as I can’t even seem to recall the last time I saw him play in an isles uni. Don’t let us down Rick and show us some of that amazing puck handling that I know we’ve all missed so much
-
Swan, DiPi is still part of the future. They are not trading Rooloson. If anything they will trade Biron.
-
I think we can all agree when healthy, DP is a great asset to the team. I am nervous for him tonight because of his recent past history but I hope he plays a great game. Amazing the naysayers and haters that are isles fans. This guy has been a class act since he has been here(his salary is not his fault). If your a true isles fan wouldnt you want him and the team to come out tonight and get the win. I dont get it. As for who to drop, does it really matter whether it is Meyer,or Tambelini. Both are not gamechanging players or someone that cannot be replaced. I say clear 2 roster spots. Go isles.
-
dominla, are you kidding? anyone that answers that they would prefer a stellar DP loss is not a fan. personally i am hoping for a win and a CONSERVATIVE night for DP.
-
“…he’s been functional…”
What a ringing endorsement from Gordon in Botta’s Fanhouse article
Best of luck to you DP!
-
welcome back rick! hope that he can stay healthy and be a big asset for us.
-
DiPietro played with an AHL team in front of him that was giving up on average 35 shot against in the games he played. True some of the goals he let in were not his best efforts but having him play at the AHL level will not do anything for him at this point. His knee is fine people…. He wont get a shutout tonight but after tonight all of the haters of DP will disappear… So great to have an ALL-STAR back for this team. Good Luck Ricky!!!
-
get rid of Gervais…I’d rather have a Colliseum parking attendant play D
-
i’d rather have the problem of having too many players than having a buncha injured ones.
-
Park or Thompson. The time has come for Comeau, Bergy & Neilson to get more PK minutes. I’m not a big Tamy fan, but his (potential) offense and shootout ability may be needed in case of an injury.
-
Good luck Ricky! We’ll gain confidence along with you!
-
Good luck tonight Rick.
-
todd: that be silly… all i was asking was a preference… to see where the mindset is. that’s much lighter than last year when tons of isles fans rooted for them to actually lose games. and i’d still call them fans. does chris archive all the old posts? if so check it out. overall i’d prefer a great dp and win. but i find choosing from the previous option more interesting to see how fans here think. i know some hate him for whatever reason and others love him.
-
It’s great to see Ricky healthy enough to start an NHL game. I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do… but good luck Rick.
Bergy needs to be in this lineup. There are 7 centers on the current roster. (JT, RS, FN, JB, RP, DW, and NT)
Bailey is starting to play like he belongs… don’t want to upset that.
Weight, captain invisible so far, can contribute.
That leaves a recently ineffective Park who would have to pass through waivers, and a less than stellar Thompson.
Isn’t this an easy decision? Why is Nate Thompson in the NHL anyway?(100) -
Here’s an idea: Waive Jon Sim and keep everyone else. Sim = useless. They waived him last year and nobody took him. What makes anyone think if the Isles waive him this year that someone will? He’s played better of late, but certainly not well enough for long enough to warrant waiving FMIV or Tambo or sending MacDonald down.
-
Park is invaluable on one of the leagues worst PK’s? This is the NHL, giving 100% should be a given. You have to get results with that effort.
Park, statistically has been one of the worst forwards in the NHL this season. The numberss do not lie.
Isles GF/GA AVG while park is one the ice
1.62GF 3.71GA
Isles GF/GA AVG while park is off the ice
2.18GF 2.06GABTW, When MacDonald passes Witt/Gervais? He already has. Check the ice-times over the last 10 games. Witt and Gervais are #5 & #6 on the blueline.
-
Those GF/GA numbers are for 5on5 only btw.
-
The Islanders WON a game by one goal instead of losing it, KO had the GWG. We have too many players and are at .500 in 2010.
I don’t see any pigs flying, but I keep looking up.
Has to be Meyer and/or Thompson.
Tamby will be a regular goal scorer, I just hope it’s with us.
-
Tambellini is getting a raw deal he has only played 24 games and rarely sees 1st unit pp time and yet is 5th in PP points. Lord knows our PP could use a sniper and yet we scratch one every night.
As far as Meyer – the isles cannot afford to loose there 7th DMan (especailly with the injury history of Sutton). CB has pointed out that there is no D ready in Bridgeport to step in for injuries.
BTW – What really worries me is how Tavares looks in the last dozen games. Maybe he should sit and rest a game or two. He has 1 point in his last 12 and is -6. For a first line center that is awful. He does not look the same as he did in October and November.
-
The Isles have back their most important player…Rick DiPietro.
Welcome Back Rick!!
-
OK, I just activated DP for my fantasy team, and I am crossing my fingers. The good news is that he can’t do any worse that Marc Andre Fleury did for the fantasy team last night (GAA of 11.01).
-
Nobody HATES DiPietro – please stop with drama. There’s a difference between fans who think he’s not the all-star goaltender everyone expected & will never achieve his potential and those who think he’s the cornerstone of this franchise that has kept LI on the map since he was chosen #1 in 2000. Just because some fans think he’s not in the same class as Martin Brodeur doesn’t automatically make them DP haters and nobody blames DP for receiving and signing a 15 year contract and being oft-injured. Everyone knows his drive to win is unparalleled and he’s a decent human being off the ice.
-
When did Freddy Meyer become so valuable? Some argue we should get rid of Witt or Gervais. They argue that waiving and potentially losing Meyer would be devastating as a potential future injury will leave us short handed at D. But wouldn’t getting rid of Gervais or Witt do the same? Are you telling me there are no possible Dmen out there that the Isles can pick up in an emergency? A seventh round pick could net us a guy comparable to Meyer. Sending AMac down when he’s playing well and establishing himself would be counter-productive and would weaken our D as he’s already a better player than Meyer. Thompson and Park…for the life of me I don’t know why people think they’re taking up Tamby’s ice time. These are 4th liners who play the pk. Tamby needs top 6 minutes and the PP. Everybody has a role on a team. Sitting 4th liners for a guy who needs to be on a top 2 line makes no sense. I know he’s a lightning rod but Sim brings some much needed sandpaper to this lineup, so he stays. Waive Meyer. If another guy goes down there are plenty of 6/7th dmen around.
-
DiPietro is not the future. Koskinen, Nilsson, Poulin, etc. are.
The only reason DP is playing here is because of his albatross of a lifetime contract and, to a lesser extent, his 1st overall draft status. If he was getting 2 million this year with another year on his contract, most fans would be livid that we would break up the Roloson momentum to put in a once top prospect, injury-prone goalie who hasn’t played above average goaltending since the ’06-’07 season, three years ago.
-
DiPietro has had one above average season in his career and even assuming he had several years like his only good year (’06-’07), he is a significant cut below Lundqvist or Brodeur today. And that is before his two knee surgeries, hip surgery and the multiple concussions.
A healthy DiPietro who returns to the form he had three years ago definitely makes this Team better. So would a healthy Witt who returns to his ’06-’07 form. And a 6’3″ Freddy Meyer. All have similar probabilities of occurrence.
-
MacDonald gets sent down. It’s not fair, but it’s the easiest move to make. Gordon will make it very clear that it’s a numbers game and in no way reflects upon his playing. Can’t waive Meyer because if more than 2 d men go down, there is NO ONE in Bridgeport to come up to play after MacDonald. Biron won’t get traded until the team thinks DP can at least handle the workload of a backup goalie. Tambs doesn’t get waived for the reasons CB mentioned. There are no trades on the horizon for this team at the moment because they are still in the playoff hunt and despite contract problems that some teams like Chicago are going to be faced with next season, they’re intent on making a Cup run and are not worrying about contracts at the moment.
-
Get rid of Thompson and Park. They’ve done nothing to warrant being on this team. Okposo-Tavares-Comeau Bailey-Nielsen-Moulson Hunter-Schremp-Bergy Tamby-Weight-Sim. That’s four solid lines who all can score. Okposo, Nielson, Bergy and Comeau are your PK guys. Gives Gordon options for the PP also. When you’re 29th in scoring the need for “grinders” is overrated. This team needs skill.
-
Great new’s that I thought I’d never again DP is starting. Good luck DP and hope goes well for you and the Isles tonight and in the future.
If Bergy is back simply waive Meyer……
Lets go Islanders.
#146 yes they are the future but at least three to four’s away and DP is a proven NHL all star goalie who when HEALTHY??? can win game’s on his own just like Roloson has done at time’s this season.. -
Can’t waive Tamby. He’s too valuable in the shootout and will probably come back to score 20+ goals for another Eastern Conference team. For the amount of games and ice-time he’s received this year, his goal output isn’t too shabby. Can’t waive Meyer either because we’re already too thin on defense. I say put Mac back in Bridgeport for the time being.
-
They shouldn’t start DP until Roloson loses, keep the good play going…Dallas is gonna fire everything at the net tonight, hope the team is ready to block alot of shots!
-
What period does DP go down tonight.
I’m betting mid 2nd. -
People generally have nothing nice to say about Jon Sim, but I love the guy. Go to a game and just watch him on shift. Away from the puck he is just a colossal nuisance. When they played Philadelphia, he spent the whole night bothering Pronger, pretty nervy seeing that Pronger has 8 inches and 40 lbs on him. Keep SIm!
-
I’m probably arguing semantics here. My point is the Isles are not trying to get the DP they thought they originally drafted 1st overall (only fans are that silly). It is all about salvaging whatever contribution they can get from a damaged player they gave a lifetime contract to.
No intelligent orthopedist or GM will think that DiPietro, a goalie, will return to the form and achieve the potential he had before his knee and hip surgeries. DP is a salvage job now, he is not the real future for the Isles.
-
DP = The Past
JT = The Future
Very easy to understand.
-
Good luck tonight Rick! Hey Snow, send Freddie to the Bridge so Bergie can play!
-
DiPietro is back. Big whoop. He’s been swiss cheese in the AHL and I’m supposed to be excited about tonight? I wish Roloson was back in net.
Now back to more important matters… Thompson should go. Or maybe Park. I can’t understand why Thompson continues to get valuable minutes with 1 goal all season while Tambellini and a now healthy Bergenheim sit. And to argue that Tambellini needs 2nd line minutes in order to play at all, while 4th liners play cause that’s their role, is asinine.
We’re a team of too many 4th liners, is the point. -
So DP is back in net. Has he learned anything by watching Roly or Biron. Has he learned to stay in his net (every time he really wanders, we get scored upon). Is he going to stay healthy. Let’s not talk goalie trading for a while.
So Tambellini scores a hat trick one night and then is a healthy scratch for the next several. Most goal scorers are streaky. But wouldn’t it help if he got more consistent time on the ice. An dn let’s not forget the Islanders proclivity for going into overtime and shootouts. Granted, Tamby occasionally misses on the shootout, but generally not.
So why don’t we rest the players on a rotating basis – with the underachievers first, and just maybe they will be rejuvinated.
You all know very well that once we trade our underachievers elsewhere – some other organization will know how to encourage/teach/bring along these guys. Perhaps there is a problem in the locker room?
Speaking of the locker room – Flash is sooo non-committal on TV and at the game. Does he every SCREAM at the kids when the need it? I love the kids, but there are times they need a really good verbal lashing.
That being said, have a great weekend all and my the force be with us and the hockey gods smile on us. -
Can’t believe Bergie is sitting tonight … that’s just poor coaching and management (unless he is still injured which does not seem to be the case). When are we going to make the tough decisions to rid the team of dead weight already?
-
Bergie could help but if it ain’t broken don’t fix it. Sure he could help but you got to keep going with the same guy’s till they lose.
-
The day has arrived…AGAIN. The re-re-re-return of Rick Dipietro. Concussions, knee surgeries, hip surgeries, groin issues and all. While Dwayne Roloson is playing SICK…we interrupt to bring you PEANUT BRITTLE INTERMISSION. Wake me when its over. And trust me I hate to say that, but this is a business after all and the product of DP has been recalled one too many times. He will NEVER start 60+ in an NHL season. This contract will haunt the Isles years after any Lighthouse Project comes to fruition. I only wish too eat these words.
-
And I wish Bergy was playing tonight with JT on the PP. Bergenheim is a perfect linemate for JT. If they just follow each other around the ice they can cause havoc.
-
biron must go, thats the only real option . a 3 goalie rotation would never work
-
Why are so many people saying that Tambellini is the future or that he’s an essential part of the youth movement? This is his fifth season here, and he’s shown next to nothing at the NHL level.
And to anyone who says that waiving Tamby would somehow show a lack of faith in playing the kids, I have no idea what team you’re watching. Ten of our regulars are 25 or younger.
-
167
1)No he isn’t
2) Hmmmm……for all those wonder/complained about why Garth drafted 2 goalies? Maybe he talked to some ortho docs who know what their talking about regarding DPs future prospects. -
Good Luck DP! I think its a numbers game right now and the right call is to demote MacDonald for the time being, as CB said, its the easiest move. I hope they don’t give up on Tamby yet. Go get ‘em Ricky!
-
To whomever keeps defending Park – yes he gives his all, yes he’s likeable and serviceable on the PK, but he’s a Minus 19.
Just saying…
I’d keep him over Thompson, Jackman, and of course Bruno. -
Aaron Ward, Matthieu Schneider, and Brad Lukowich are just three names I can think of off the top of my head that cleared waivers recently and would be more valuable for a team seeking D than Meyer. I’m not worried about anyone claiming him. Meyer’s probably more comparable to Nathan Paetsch as far as value to the team/being a known quantity throughout the NHL. And Paetsch just cleared waivers as well.
-
CB,
That’s a pretty “bold” update. It’s only one game, or maybe until the end of the trip… but this team is definitely better when Bergy is in the lineup. I’d venture to say that Bergy gives this team a second(but lesser) Kyle Okposo presence… and he adds to a struggling PK unit.
I’d really love to see the pictures that Thompson has… they gotta be whoppers.
Or are they worried about not having a second AHL level center on the ice with under a minute to go and up by a goal. PS:Bergy-Schremp-Hunter… coould be the next Rob Schnieder movie or a pretty good second line.(109) -
The rest of January will answer most of the questions raised in the previous posts. How DP does, the record of the team, whether we are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, etc etc. So as they used to say in radio, “stay tuned”
-
So Thompson is in and both Bergy and Tamebellini sit out cause Gordon wants to keep the same lineup that won in Colorado; do I have that right?
So then why the heck is DiPietro in?
I have two points I feel strongly about:
A) We’ve seen the best Thompson has to give. He’s a fourh-liner, at best. He’s on a two-way contract and we have enough guys like him. Send him down already! Indeed, he must have some real good dirt on Gordon for staying in the lineup and getting the ice time that he does.
B) This thing with DiPietro feels forced. Did he even win one game at the AHL? What’s the rush to get him up here now? -
you guys will all eat your words , if not tonight then soon – ricky D is back and here to stay – best of luck buddy
-
DP plays ok tonight and we loose 5-3. He will not play as well as Rollie has.(Not that he should in his first game back)
I just hope like everyone else that he doesn’t pass the puck to the other teams D when he is behind the net, like the old days.
-
I would waive Thompson or Gervais. On a trade front I would give Biron a little time still, wait until someone is desperate. The first move I would make is to trade Witt for anything that a team gives you. His play has been aweful and did anyone see him in the Colorado game, he got smoked 3 or 4 times. It was nice to have him on the team but his time is up.
-
I have no problem with DP in net tonight. Rollie could use a rest especially since there is a game tomorrow night as well.
-
What a joke. Funny how up until e weeks ago the majority of posts on here were to dump Tamby and Schremp. Now that’s changed. Top six fwds r
Okposo,Tavares,Tambellini,Schremp,Bergenheim and maybe Hunter. The baloney about Thompson is silly, he does his job! Park on the other hand should move on. I’ll bet the connection with Park has to do with he and Wang being Asian!
Neilson,Comeau,Moulson,Sim ect r 3rd line players! -
Thompson receives the 2nd fewest 5 on 5 minutes of any player on the roster, at just over 10, he plays another 3 minutes on the PK. His 13 minutes per game ranks him at #20 on the team. I wouldn’t call that a lot of ice time.
-
Welcome back DP!
-
Goodluck DP! I predict a high scoring game, he’s got to be rusty but at the same time he pushes the puck much more effectively than Rolo and pretty much all of the Isles defensemen.
-
been waiting to see DP come back and extremely excited to watch the game. Rolo has been great but his puck handling is usually awful and he gives it away more than he helps his teammates – DP should be able to help our D by moving the puck himself. I expect to see some rust and I know he will take a while to get his timing back, but I think we’re in a great position with him and Rolo in net. Biron filled in well but can now be moved for a decent pick.
Not bad Snow. We got the goalie to keep us competitive, and a goalie to cover him for very little money and now we’ll get a decent draft pick out of the deal. Small moves like this are what builds depth in the organization.
Can’t wait to get home and watch Rick play!
-
Welcome back DP
-
Good luck Rick. This Isles fan is pulling for you.
-
I vote mysterious illness..
-
Ill be holding my breathe all night long. Please god let him be healthy. If he even squints the whole hockey world will be proclaiming his imminent retirement. Lets just finally get this injury thing over with so that we don’t look like total idiots for that 15 year contract!!
-
Rooting hard for DP. No matter if you like or dislike what he has been thus far, there can be no disagreement that if he can get back to the level he was at before injuries (top 1/3 in the league, albeit not a brodeur/lundquist IMO), it is very good for the franchise.
-
Oh and good luck to DP tonight. We missed you!
-
Hey Rick,
Please, PLEASE do not pull off a headfirst dive ala Montreal and injure yourself again! In all seriousness, good luck and glad to see you back. Hope the worst is in the past and you can lead this franchise for many years. LGI! -
Whatever you can say about DP remember this- way BEFORE the big contract, he said he wanted to be an Islander for life, his whole career. I will always appreciate that about any player. Loyalty to team before $$. If he can play, he can be a great netminder, if he can’t sad for him and sad for us. Then we move on. Let’s hope this becomes a positive story.
-
Can someone keep track of the number of times DP handles the puck and the number of times the other team is the first to touch the puck after he handles it???
I am willing to bet he turns it over more than 50% of the time.
-
Well, at least Sim isn’t the problem. I think he might get an offer from the Islanders in the off-season, hope the Isles bring back Sutton and send Bruno and Meyer packing. Not saying Bruno and Meyer are bad, just not a future on this team as we need to sign a big defenceman and a scoring winger (I say goodbye to either Thomson,Tamby or Comeau although two departures would be best) Comeau has been pretty good but can be like Tamby, too much of a “Bi-polar” performer as he either is all over the ice or invisible and Thomson is good but not as vital as others are.
-
Marty Biron comes up with a mystery ailment.
Good Luck DP
