TRAVIS HAMONIC TRADED
Rest easy…just within the junior ranks
Travis Hamonic will not join the Islanders or Bridgeport in April, for good reason. Within the Western Hockey League, he was traded on Sunday from by Moose Jaw to Brandon. What’s so special about Brandon? As the host team of the Memorial Cup, Brandon is an automatic entry in the four-team Canadian junior championships. His shoulder will be strong well before then. Additional good experience for one of the Islanders’ top prospects.

He is now a King of Wheat…j/k.
Good team for him.
-
Brandon traded a lot for him so I am assuming they will be looking to him to lead the defense and be a key player in all situations, the same way he was in Moose Jaw but now for a competetive team. This is HUGE for his development, very very happy about this.
-
Sounds like a good experience for Travis, hope to see him signing with the Isles this summer.
-
not funny CB
-
scared the crap out of me with that one…Just crazy enough for me to believe that Garth Snow would do it…which is sad…
-
Wow, huge move for the Wheaties, they’ll need him to anchor the team against Windsor. Great move to get him, he’s a beast in the WHL and hopefully he’ll be a beast with the Isles in two or three years.
-
I guess it’s evidence that his shoulder is/will be healing on schedule and 100%???

OMG, that first line totally almost scared me senseless.
-
haha my first reaction was similiar to many on here. good for travis. the memorial cup is a big deal and im glad he will be a part of it.
-
Ohhh mannnn CB!!!! You got me there buddy … right before my first cup of coffee … wait a second while I get my heart off the ceiling.
OK … I think this is a GREAT thing… The MCC is the perfect place for Harmonic to polish up his Jr. career … He’s not going to jump into Bridgeport and make an instant impact. I think he’s better off being the Josh Bailey of prospect camp this summer … and then come back to Saskatoon next September rearing to go for ’10-’11.

Good for him. Hope he gets healthy and has a successful playoff run.
-
I agree. Great situation for him and a nice gift to the Islanders in terms of his development.
Brandon gave up a first year defenceman, apparently not a big part of the team right now (12 GP), but also a 1st round pick (2010) and two seconds (2010, 2011). Gotta think they are expecting a lot from Hamonic.
I think I am now a Wheat Kings fan.

Headline was the very first thing I read this morning. System did NOT love being woken this way, thanks CB

crap u scared me bro….
need this guy in the nhl soon, our defense is dreadful. has any team ever been this bad at protecting a lead in the nhl??
-
Islanders Country has had to cope with losing Turgeon, Luongo, and many others in traumatic deals. Yes, I know this kid isn’t a star like those guys, but please spare our feelings and don’t use the word TRADE so abruptly.
Thanks! -
Cool. I live in southern Manitoba and will be going to see a couple Wheat Kings games this year yet.
-
Didn’t fool me, Milbury is GONE
-
Nice CB, A jumpstart better than coffee!!
-
For a fleeting moment, I thought somehow Mike Milbury had kidnapped Snow and went and traded Hamonic for Eric Fichaud.
-
CB – Should there be any concern that the Islanders will have trouble reaching a contractual agreement with Hamonic and therefore losing his rights before the draft this summer?
-
Trades like this happen all the time in juniors. MJ knows Travis most likely will not be back for his over-age year so they unloaded him for the best possible deal. Brandon wants to win and benefits here as well. Hopefully they made the right deals to counter that powerhouse over in Windsor. Luke I said these deals happen all the time. If Sarnia was bringing up the rear this year and Martin was still there they most likely would have traded him to Windsor. Anyway, great move for both teams, great for Travis, and great for us if NHL network televises the Memorial Cup again this year.

Scared me, CB. Just pooped my pants
-
I wonder what Snowman is waiting for? Sign him!
The Islanders have too mamny smurfs on the blueline! And too often they get turned into speedbumps against teams like the Flyers.
Freddie Mayer, The Last: 5’10 192
Jack Hillen: 5’11″ 200
Mak Katic: 5’10″ 180
Aaron Ness: 5’10″ 157
Jared Spurgeon: 5’8″ 175 -
have no fear Hamonic will be an isle and will not be traded. he is not mike milbury. he made one bad trade (SMYTH) and even that didnt hurt him. Since then he has built up our youth, and traded vets at deadline for picks (guerin), and most important of all COMPLAINERS or TEAM PLAGUES (Comrie, Campoli)
-
You had to know after the impressive year he has had, especially with is play in the wjc that a playoff team would trade for him. Hopefully he gets some good high-level that he can bring to the franchise next year.
Its imperitive that Garth gets a deal done w/ Hamonic’s agent.
Hay CB quick question, who represents Hamonic & whayt kind of working relationship do they have w/ Garth? -
cmon CB i saw that headline and poo’d myself.
Milbury all over again. Well good for Trav. As long as he is in the AHL next year, that should be fine. -
Brandon is now questionably the most talented Junior Team in History! They have Brayden Schenn and Scott Glennie; & they are only 4th & 5th in Team Scoring. Matt Calvert & Eric Fehr are WHL Scoring Stars. Tony Rajala(Finnish) broke Ovechkins U-18 Intl Tourney Scoring Record. On D’ they have Colby Robak(6’4 210), Alex Urbom(6’4 218), B.Melyanchuk(6’4 200) & now Hamonic(6’2 218) all 4 were High NHL Draft picks. I’d love to see them play Windsor(Hall, Ellis, Fowler) for the Memorial Cup.

Heart stopped for a second there CB, not cool. But good news for Travis, any experience is good experience at this point.
