CAROLINA at ISLANDERS, 7:05 pm
It’s Rick DiPietro vs. Justin Peters

Chris Botta on Twitter

Another night of NHL action, another night when Eastern teams ahead of the Islanders lose. Last night, it was Atlanta dropping one to Washington, and the Panthers - who never make it easy on themselves – losing to Calgary at home.

Tonight it’s Rick DiPietro vs. Justin Peters for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward has an injury related to his back. Carolina had an impressive come-from-behind win last night in Buffalo.

Expect a strong game tonight from John Tavares, who looked more confident and created more in the loss in Tampa Bay on Thursday than he had in a while. Scott Gordon said of the 19-year-old this morning, “As much I’d like to see the goals and assists, I’m not going to beat him up about it because it’s the little things that will lead to the opportunities.”

On the team, the coach said, “There’s a false sense of where we are,” referring to the Islanders’ relative youth compared to teams like the Lecavalier and St. Louis-led Lightning.

I understand where Scott is coming from, but no one around the team was talking about any false senses when the Islanders were on a tear before this six-game losing streak. There was plenty of confidence, playoff talk and even some thoughts about how the team could be even better.

Andy Sutton on the challenges of facing Hurricanes captain Eric Staal: “He’s big, fast and he sees the play. He’s so dynamic and can hurt you in so many ways. There’s a reason he’s deservedly one of the top paid players in the game. Stopping Staal is a six-man effort. You have to clog the areas because he sees everything.”

The Islanders had their morning skate at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum with 19 players. Doug Weight had the workout off. Expect the line combinations to continue to be juggled, as they were on the back end of the road trip. Maybe leading goal scorer Matt Moulson will see a little more time on the power play.

Islanders goaltending consultant Sudarshan “Sudsie” Maharaj is back in town to work with Dwayne Roloson and No. 1 client Rick DiPietro. Although he’s not ready to return to game action, Tim Jackman (broken orbital bone from New Year’s Eve) skated this morning.

Martin Biron made 38 saves last night in Bridgeport’s 3-2 overtime loss to Springfield, a game which also featured the Sound Tigers’ debut of Brendan Witt. Ryan O’Marra scored the overtime goal for Edmonton’s AHL squad.

Happy 47th birthday to Scott Gordon, who may be about 57 in Islanders-coach-years, but doesn’t show it.

My pal Seth Everett of 1050 ESPN Radio is a local hockey media hero. How nice it was to hear him passionately talk hockey on the drive in this morning, comparing his Devils’ acquisition of Ilya Kovalchuk to the Blue Jays’ trade for David Cone. Everett pointed out how John Tavares could benefit from the break and had a funny line about how the Rangers will benefit from some time away from John Tortorella.

Seth also said, “I’m not even going to try and pretend that the NBA season is more compelling than the NHL.” That kind of talk could get a broadcaster in trouble, so good luck, Seth. And thanks.

Rest in peace, Brendan Burke. Our condolences to Brian Burke and his family at this very sorrowful time. When Brian was GM in Hartford, he used to bring young Brendan with him to the Coliseum for Whalers games and on scouting trips. Such a sweet boy who became a courageous young man.

Comments on tonight’s game.

Tonight is the night we get back on track. Islanders by 3.

  2. avatar Tony F. says:

It’s sad to hear about Brendan, especially after all he and his family has gone through. My condolences go out to the Burke family.

  3. avatar Keith says:

As a die hard fan, I could really use a win tonight. Let’s go Isles!!

  4. avatar Chris Mc says:

You’re dead on about Brendan Burke, CB. He was a very courageous man and its so sad to see someone go so soon before their time. It makes you realize that we are all human beings, even Brian Burke, and that things like hockey are very trivial sometimes.

But since the games must go on, I really hope to see a strong showing by the Isles tonight. Obviously a win is sorely needed, but more importantly id like to see a full 60 mins of intense hockey from the boys.

  5. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Once again the Isles play a team that has played a tough game the night before. Are the Islanders a *better* team than Carolina. No. But this is a game the Isles need to win and *should*.
    Go Isles!

  6. avatar Chris Mc says:

And I apologize about the ‘dead on’ phrase. I realized after I had posted it that I probably could have used a better term.

  7. avatar miket239 says:

I dont know who will win tonight, but I GUARANTEE DP handles the puck and turns it over much more often than not. You can set your clock to it folks.

  8. avatar Blizzard says:

….Well yes i have seen some creative things from JT especially that deft move where he beat a dman then the goalie but not the post. In time those will go in and Im sure he will be fine.

But again It begs to mention that Redline report where Duchene was rated higher than JT that we all scoffed at? Who is scoffing now? I know its early, and i know it will be a long time before we can reach any judgments about who in the long run will be the better player.

However as Duchene keeps rolling along and JT struggles we have to wonder now dont we. But If I was the G.M.. I would have taken JT.

  9. avatar Anthony says:

The Islanders need to start showing some desperation. And where are the young legs lately?

  10. avatar Danbury Islanders Fan says:

Islanders win and a John Tavares hat-trick tonight.

  11. avatar kurvers28 says:

If they lose in regulation tonight, the lottery talk should really begin.

  12. avatar Les Beaver says:

In the beginning of the season the Isles tried a back and forth with Biron and Roloson. It didn’t work then, it won’t work now. Leave Rolo as the #1 until either the end of the season or the playoffs are out of reach. He’s a solid goalie and he earned the playing time. This system is hurting his play and the teams as well.

  13. avatar dmen77 says:

My thoughts and prayers are with the Burke and Reedy families during this difficult time.

  14. avatar The Simtuation formerly known as K-Rob says:

    Said Jon Sim:

“We need to win. Bad. We don’t have our mojo right now, but it’s there. We’ve just got to find Dr. Evil and get it back.”
    – I love him <3

  15. avatar goislesgo105 says:

The Isles will not and do not desreve to make the playoffs this year.
    R.I.P. 2009-2010 New York Islanders

  16. avatar pattyb94 says:

    RIP Brendan Burke

And on a far less important note we needa get a win tonight, I have a good feeling though. Hopefully Johnny is able to break out of this slump

  17. avatar Jim Clark says:

Deepest condolences to the Burke family.

4-3 shootout loss with Doug Weight getting the hat trick.

  18. avatar Jim M says:

A big part for this team to get going is Hunter. What happened to that streak of points in 10 of 11 he had back in early december. Right now hes only got 4points in his last 12, thats not going to cut it.

  19. avatar Dave says:

Condolences to Brian Burke and his family

  20. avatar turgeiton says:

I agree #11 all the way….I have been saying this for weeks now. I know its not the only reason they have been losing but it does have something to do with it.

  21. avatar BillyBC says:

If the Isles lose today im officially blaming dipi for stealing the good vibes from this team

  22. avatar JPinVA says:

Thoughts and prayers go out to Brendan’s family.
At first I didn’t think your piece on Fanhouse was appropriate given the circumstances. But it made me do some research and… I was wrong as usual.
I actually liked Brian Burke before the research, but I have a whole new respect for him now. The Buccigross story is outstanding. That story should be mandatory in FATHERHOOD 101.
    Quite a young man indeed.

  23. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

Condolences to the Burke’s. New doesn’t get much worse than that.

If the Isles don’t score more than 2 goals, they will not win.

  24. avatar UIF says:

6-0 Isles. That’s right. I’m going bold on this prediction :)

  25. avatar big dig says:

Call me what ya want but once rick came back the dynamics on this team changed. As a fan I can see that and regardless of what the players say its there

  26. avatar Mario says:

I hope DP gets a hat trick so we dont lose.

  27. avatar Chris in DC says:

I hope Rick can finish the year strong and prove me wrong, because I thought we rushed him back too soon and would still rather see a Roloson-Biron tandem. He’s looked shaky, his shutout of the Devils notwithstanding.
That’s terrible news about young Brendan Burke. I have not been a big fan of his father, but this is tragedy you wouldn’t wish upon anybody.

  28. avatar bob says:

Gordon should just look at a team like the Avalanche. They are younger than the Islanders and they are winning. It’s possible. So, coach, please no excuses.

  29. avatar Joe says:

I cant believe that there is no lineup changes after that awful game. This management is so lost.

  30. avatar dominla says:

how is scoring 10 goals in 7 games dp’s fault? you are not going to win when you score 10 goals in 7 games. that’s 1.4285714285714285714285714285714 goals per game.

  31. avatar Bruce1167 says:

This is really ReRickulous, DP should sit and Roli needs to get the starts and get his Mojo back ! ! The team was clearly playing a different game in front of Roli before DP came back.

  32. avatar TimQ says:

I have been waiting for JT to breakout for over a month now. Lets see what happens

  33. avatar joe fred va says:

not sure you can blame goaltending when your team is producing just 2 goals per game in the last 5.

  34. avatar isles420 says:

the isles are heavily injured right now on the defensive side.

    we dont have hillen
    we dont have myer
    and we dont have jackman

  35. avatar dominla says:

joe… they’ve scored 6 goals in the last 5. that’s 1.2 goals per game. you are right… it’s not the goaltending.

  36. avatar dominla says:

Bruce1167… if this team is so fragile and sensitive that an added goaltender can cause them to stop scoring and winning and playing well… then they don’t deserve to win. ever think of that? a real team. a good team plays well in front of any goaltender. if this is what the islanders are… a wimpy group of guys crying about that fact daddy rolo is not in net every day to make them feel safe then the heck with them. i want a team that plays hard in front of whoever is in net.

  37. avatar IslesNation says:

BillyBC (20) DP came back and the team played great against Buffalo and NJ with him in the net. I’m glad you called Gordon on his statement, CB. This team is not on the same level as the top teams, nor did we expect them to be. With that being said, no team wants to play the Isles when their forecheck is on. No one.

  38. avatar Frank nyc says:

Hqppy the Isles dont have to face Cam Ward again. He stoned the Isles last time. They need a break, maybe this is it. Or knowing the Isles this Peters guy will shut them out.

  39. avatar Mike from VA says:

Well, snowed in down here in DC so in order to keep me from FULL ON Cabin Fever, I’ve been reading PB every half hour. Let’s hope DP is on his game, considering he was out late last night at 7th Street bars in GC (Confirmed via my Uncle). Maybe hes like Babe Ruth and is better when he got trashed the night before.

  40. avatar Steven says:

Very well said 36. It also seems when Rolo plays a bad game everyone wants to forgive him and when it happens to DP it’s a different story. Having said that either goalie has to also play well when called on. No excuses.

  41. avatar Bruce1167 says:

dominla I agree with everything you said, but in the first half of the season whenever Biron played the team played very differently in front of him than Roli. Roli was also STEALING points for us with how good he was playing.
Now with Roli and DP switching off every game, the team is playing the same way that they did whenever Biron played.

They have lost their MOJO !!

I don’t think its Roli or DP’s fault in goal they are not playing badly, it’s just the way the team is playing in front of them.

I also don’t think that everything is lost. If the Isles had 3 or 4 points in the past 6 games instead of 0, or if they go on a 2 or 3 game win streak, they will be right back in the middle of the playoff hunt(not that they are even out of it now, although it does feel like it!)

  42. avatar eastonhockey says:

Interesting point about the redline report on tavares #8. It makes you wonder what Snows scouting reports on Tavares were. Did they mention he has a poor shot? A sniper and a finisher are two different things. Mark Parrish could finish, Steve Thomas was more of a Sniper with a hard shot. I wonder if Tavares was beating goalies in Juniors with shots from outside the circle, or were all his goals standing within ten feet from the goal. Between his below avg speed and below average Shot, I wonder how that showed up on his scouting reports.

  43. avatar Dan in Hicksville says:

I hope we do well tonight but……
Is it so wrong to be interested more so in the Devils game to see how the rags handle the “new and improved” Devils? We’re just playing Carolina for pete’s sake!
I rather be entertained by another third period meltdown by the overpaid rags.

  44. avatar Dorfer says:

It’s difficult to criticize a 19 year old rookie in the NHL, especially when the work ethic is there. Tavares will be more than fine; he reallly just needs to get bigger and fill out. Duchene just happens to have a more mature physique than JT at this age. Tavares will be a dynamic goal scorer.

Condolences to the Burke family. Bucci’s article from December was excellent.

  45. avatar Michael P. says:

42- Redline is not really a totally respected scouting service, Central scouting had Tavares at 1

  46. avatar gino says:

#8/blizzard. i for one didn’t scoff at the report. i even sent a personal mail to cb about how the isles should draft duschene over jt. but jt wont dissappoint either, just wont be multi-dimensional like duschene.

  47. avatar TuxTax says:

Isles on CSPAN2 tonight…Good thing I’m going to the game tonight!

  48. avatar Frank James says:

I still think we are 3 regulars away from being a real solid team.

    3 regulars.

    Condolences to the Burkes.

    That is absolutely horrendous story.
Two young lives gone in an instant.

Both he and his dad were very courageous in the situation of Brendan coming out.
Especially in such a macho sport.

I hate the Leafs and loved the Devils furious comeback.

Then when I read the news about Brendan it really puts sports in perspective.

  49. avatar Chris in DC says:

Some are dismissing how easy it is to throw off locker room chemistry. This is not the Wings or Devils we’re talking about here. And sure, the team needs to score goals to win. But can you say that DiPietro has looked good since his return?

  50. avatar JP says:

Isles have Carolina, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Ottawa before the break.

It would be nice if the Isles can at least be within 2-4 points of a playoff spot by the break- I’d be happy with 6 out of 10 points earned in the next 5.

Sorry I just can’t root for them to lose for the sake of a lottery pick- Isles must play hard in front of a home crowd tonight.

    Let’s Go Islanders!

  51. Yes. We need goals, plain and simple. CB on point as always – Moulson needs to be on the PP. I feel like that’s a no-brainer.

  52. avatar dsb says:

everyone needs to calm down duchene is gonna be a great player just like tavares but he plays on the second line on a deeper colorado team (stasny hejduk wolski). which means the top d are not going up against duchene. unlike tavares who just has okposo with him and always faces the top defenses. think about it if duchene was drafting #1 by the isles theres a good chance he would have 25 points right now and tavares would be in the 40s if colorado drafted him. just my opinion. everyone get off the ledge.

  53. avatar Frans Dish says:

JT is the complete real deal, he has such a strong work ethic at such a young age. In the off season he will work to improve his issues with skating and defensive play. Tavares wasn’t the best junior because he was complacent about his game. He wants to be the best he can possibly be and we haven’t even seen half as good as he’s going to be. In two years people are going to be so pleased that we have Tavares over Duchene.

  54. avatar IslesRock says:

Such sad and tragic news regarding Brendan Burke. I gave my kids a few extra hugs today. Something we should be be doing everyday!!

  55. avatar Ed says:

Does Dunham actually do anything? How many times do we keep hearing Sudsie is here to help the goalies? Our GM is a goalie, our coach is a goalie, we have a goalie coach and 3 goalies. And still we keep bringing someone to help out?

How about someone to help with scoring? Isn’t Trotts in charge of player development? Get him ON the ice with our players and teach them how to get into scoring position. And we have Bossy wasting away trying to make business deals. What a waste of skill and experience of 2 Hall of Famers.

  56. avatar shinkdew says:

If DiPietro disrupted the chemistry in the locker room when he came back, how did they go 5-2 in the first 7 games after he came back?

  57. avatar RD says:

This was a team that had won something like 10 of 13 games. Now, they’ve lost 6 in a row. Why? These are serious questions that need some serious answers. Garth does absolutely diddly squat to help this team. You never hear from the guy, ever! Gordon always has the same constipated look on his face. Looks lost!

Today, Philly picks Leino from Detroit. Why didn’t we pick up Leino? Why wouldnt we add another player like Nielsen to the mix? A well rounded skilled player. These of the kind of players that Garth should be picking up and he doesnt. Instead, we are stuck with Park. Why isn’t Garth adding more undrafted college players like Hillen, Bozak, Gilroy, Etc. Im tired of draft picks that don’t pan out 90% of the time. He lacks that certain edge a good general manager has, a la Torrey.

Im really not sold on the whole Snow/Gordon regime! Not sure if these are the right guys.

  58. avatar TIM,CALGARY,CANADA says:

come on lottery pic i’d luv to see us climb back in but i just don’t see it so i’m rooting for a strong showing from our young guys and another solid pic from GS

  59. avatar RD says:

As for the whole DiPietro discussion, he should keep his mouth shut until he actually lives up to his draft selection and contract! So should his supporters. As of now, he is bust who has only accomplished a laundry list of injuries and bonehead mistakes. He isn’t even a top 15 goalie at this point. That is being nice. Bust! That is his legacy to this point! Drafting that SOB cost us Luongo and Heatley. He is one of the worst things to ever to happen to this franchise. Get us in the playoffs, hotshot! Earn some of that ridiculous contract!

  60. avatar Steve says:

    Just win this game, period.

  61. avatar Islesphan25 says:

#57…I guess you haven’t seen Leino play this year…Yeah he has top 6 skill…but has been scratched the last 6 games with have of the Wings team injured…He is soft and weak in the corners….I ma sorry we don’t need that…We have plenty…

Everyone calm down…They are holding steady and doing what is right for the team…A top 5 pick is what we need while the young guys get a full season of hockey…Major decisions will be made at the end of the season. I am glad Garth doesn’t say anything…Do you hear anything for any other GM???? No…

Islanders keep it up….Keep working hard…Get the experience….and then fill in the gaps…

2 players they need to add if avaliable..

    Dustin B from the Hawks…!!!!!!!
    Boogard…

  62. avatar dominla says:

RD… i wish i had selective long term memory loss like you.

Let’s just hope they can score more than 1 goal tonight.

And hopefully DP gives up less than roli last time out.

    I predict a 3-1 loss… with an empty netter

  63. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Tollefsen….a 7-8 D-Man at best…Very good at stick up for team, but not what the Islanders need…

  64. avatar Islesphan25 says:

    I guess no HD tonight….Wonderful…..

Ch. 79 for Long Islanders…Non HD..

Is their CSPAN HD channel…ha ha ha

  65. avatar Hopeful Fan says:

Man, I hope we get a Permit eventually after putting up with all this so called “Entertainment”.

  66. avatar Brian H says:

all I have on tv tonight is the rangers/devils game and the sabres/jackets game, no isles tv tonight for me.. on to the online radio broadcast!

  67. avatar Bill says:

finding these games on tv is ridiculous….nice job by the islander website to list the channel. oh wait, they didnt. no wonder the old barn is empty

  68. avatar Willis says:

I just read about Brendan Burke and Mark reedy. How horrible. My sincere condolences to both families.

  69. avatar Islesphan25 says:

    66…How come???

Where do you live???I will help you find it

  70. avatar mikef says:

anyone know on time warner what channel the game is/

  71. avatar Quagmire says:

Northern NJ here – where the eff is the game?? What a joke this tv situation is.

  72. avatar Chris A says:

This is worse than an internet feed

  73. avatar Staten Islander says:

Time/Warner Staten Island has it on 198 if that helps

  74. avatar eric says:

no wonder ratings are down. ch.79 looks like ass. why are the isles, and the rags sd and nj get the hd. complete bs.

  75. avatar JPinVA says:

You’d think Jaffe could compose himself a little better after the double dig job by Tavares… A little professionalism Billy, PLEASE.

  76. avatar Willis says:

cablevision says they have no MSG+2….

  77. avatar Dan W. says:

Congress comes in clearer. Interesting that the RAGS are on the overflow on Cablevision. I guess we didn’t qualify for CSPAN1…

  78. avatar Staten Islander says:

    way too go DP

  79. avatar Joe says:

Richard Park has become totally useless.

  80. avatar ed says:

DP shines again. Guess we are going to keep rolling him out there so he can go golfing and to concerts with Wang again. Glad to see Islander players can go 10-20 games with no results and no one is benched. Great coach.

  81. avatar Staten Islander says:

Any thoughts on what if anything wang says between periods?

  82. avatar Ed says:

If Al was in the dressing room right now, he’d give every player an egg

  83. avatar ed says:

Been going back and forth between this game and the Rangers/devils game and watching the physical brand of hockey in that game has me jealous. I can remember when the Islanders actually check and fought. Wonder what sport Snow thinks they are playing right now lol. How did Wang become a billionaire? Anybody else think he is an idiot? This interview is depressing

  84. avatar Joe says:

Ed- that game is pretty entertaining, stopped watching the Isles game.

  85. avatar James C says:

Wow, that was pretty awkward to watch.
Great job by Howie to dig a bit. I’m left with more of a intuitive feeling that the isles are looking at options I wont be happy about.

  86. avatar WM says:

Ed (#82), you’re spot on. Wang is an idiot and a pompous ass. The interview with Howie was not exactly illuminating.

  87. avatar MattyB says:

    Will we ever win again?

  88. avatar Steve says:

ZERO communication between Wang and the ToH. Unacceptable. Time to move on Charles. Let the fat cats eat their mistake and bring this team to Queens or Brooklyn. The Isles are not wanted in Nassau.

  89. avatar ken says:

hopefully our next win… is the draft lottery.

  90. avatar gino says:

52/dsb- i’m not concerned about jt. he will b a star. my opinion is that duschene will b a better all around player. i am concerned over gordon as a coach n how he misuses the players on his roster, most notably tambo. i really hope they ship him off where he will have an honest oppurtunity to play.

  91. avatar WM says:

CB, would love to hear your take on the detailed (sarcasm) State of the Islanders interview with Wang during the 1st intermission.

  92. avatar Staten Islander says:

Wang said he loves the rebuild, he thinks we’re a little ahead of schedule, he’s still waiting to hear about the lighthouse, and they’re still looking at options. he also did told howie he didnt want to talk about it. Not a word about china, or brooklyn, queens or kansas city

  93. avatar Seth says:

that goal wasn’t Dipietro’s fault. it never is. he is an all star goaltender who was let down yet again by his teammates.

  94. avatar JKP on LI says:

Not sure that Wang is an idiot, but it really seemed like he had nothing to say. Even if you give him a pass on the real estate, which he said he didn’t want to talk about, his comments on the team were basically a list of young players. Then again, I don’t think you can really expect much from a 3 minute interview.

Tambellini has never shown anything at the NHL level. There’s a reason he was traded for a pending UFA in Mark Parrish.

  95. avatar miket239 says:

    Trent Hunter = dead wood.

  96. avatar MattyB says:

    5-3 make an effort

  97. avatar mLem says:

    yeah…thats about right…

  98. avatar Dan W. says:

Well, that was a depressing interview..

  99. avatar MattyB says:

Wow out of any sports, NHL officials are far and away the worst

  100. avatar jeffb says:

@Seth (#92) Im sorry all star goalie? are you kidding?

  101. avatar Big Van Vader says:

Town of Hempstead is a joke and corrupt. Kate Murray is a joke and corrupt. More than likely, Wang is working on something with Rechler behind the scenes. Guys like that ALWAYS have a Plan B. Whether it’s Queens, Brooklyn or Suffolk, something will get done.

  102. avatar mLem says:

well…he was an all star goalie, hopefully he’ll get to that level again shortly and that goal certainly isn’t on him

  103. avatar MattyB says:

    Awesome power play

  104. avatar Bri On LI says:

Channel 79 looks like it’s colored with crayons. Has anyone heard a good reason why cablevision advertises “all games all teams all hd,” but Isles (and Devils) hockey get relegated to CSPAN-2?

On a game note, we’re one good goal away from a bunch, but I feel like Richard Park is feeling his age these days…

  105. avatar gino says:

94/jkp-then lets give him an oppurtunity to play with another organization instead of sitting him every night. if he hasn’t shown anything then your not gonna get anything back so why not waive him.

  106. avatar ed says:

Just the fact that CB keeps saying that Wang will not fire Snow for a long time makes Wang an idiot. Not because Snow deserves to get fired(he never should of been hired), but it shows Wang learned nothing, NOTHING from the Milbury fiasco where he latches on to these idiot GM’s and lets them do whatever they want. I was hoping that Wang would never make that mistake again after Milbury, but it seems like he refuses to admit a mistake when he makes one. By the way, this hockey game is extremely boring and the past month’s games all have been. No hitting, scoring or fighting.

  107. avatar Isles Fan in NJ says:

Something needs to be done about the horrid officiating. I feel like I’m watching basketball for pete’s sake. And, can someone tell Tavares to stop picking his nose? Sheesh

  108. avatar Staten Islander says:

    HEY they scored, nice play

  109. avatar MattyB says:

how many more penalties will there be this game.

  110. avatar Bill says:

sim sucks….wide open net. c’mon man

  111. avatar Joe says:

Why can’t we handle a pass!!!!!!

  112. avatar Big Van Vader says:

Saw that nose pick. (I mean, how could you MISS IT?) Jaffe was so stunned he stopped talking. Howie was trying to cover. lol Tavares had it in up to the knuckle.

  113. avatar MattyB says:

JT great stuff….Ricky MAKE A SAVE!!!!!!!!!

  114. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Maybe its a total whine, but besides the losing, WOW, these games are boring!!!

  115. avatar ed says:

Prust has 3 fights and an assist already for the Rags. God forbid the Islanders replace sim, hunter, park, weight as the are scoring and hitting machines lol. I feel like Garth Snow has a bet with someone to create the most boring team in hockey history. Mediocre goalie=Mediocre GM

  116. avatar Dorfer81 says:

DiPietro with an assist and a save made inside of the net. Roloson who?

  117. avatar MattyB says:

Dorfer81, Did you see the last goal?….He didn’t even move

  118. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

You got that right Bassen. These games lately are like watching paint dry. And this game would be just as boring if they were up 2-1.

  119. avatar gino says:

ed-yup. and the maple leafs make a couple of much needed moves n despite losing last night have been playing much more inspired hockey

  120. avatar Lorne says:

It is not that we are playing bad hockey, we are just not scoring goals. Also we are not a comeback team, we’ll see what happens this period.

  121. avatar eric says:

could we SUCK anymore. yeah most likely.

  122. avatar mLem says:

Another blown assignment on that one…Tavares knew it and reacted as such after the play…maybe his pads should have been together, but hard to blame the goalie on a play from behind the net that ended up in the air and then the net

  123. avatar MattyB says:

We really need to make a couple offseason moves….A rebuild starts and continues through the draft, but free agents also help

  124. avatar Barney Stinson says:

    It’s so funny.

When this team was winning some games everyone was like “yeah, playoffs! Snow is a genius. He’s great! Gordon’s awesome!”

Now, this team is losing some games and it’s the complete opposite, “Snow and Wang are idiots. Gordon doesn’t know what he’s doing.”

I understand, when your team is losing you have to find reasons – excuses- as to why. And when they’re winning, most players are playing well, that’s why they’re winning.

But it’s very entertaining to me to see how people change so drastically in a matter of a few games.

Call me a pessimist if you will, but I didn’t really expect much from this team this year. Did anyone else?

Be happy that we’re not dead last again.

That interview with Wang was hilarious.

Wang: I told you I didn’t want to talk about it. You shouldn’t be asking me about it.
Rose: Oh, ummm, what do you want to talk about?

    HAHAHAHAHA

Oh boy, you gotta love the Islanders.

  125. avatar Dorfer81 says:

    Matty, that was sarcasm.

  126. avatar MattyB says:

Hard to hear sarcasm in writing….My bad

  127. avatar Tony says:

Hope to see some passion in the third. This is the cure for insomnia

  128. avatar Staten Islander says:

in all honesty this game should be tied, no way the whistle should have been blown before moulson’s non-goal.

  129. avatar greg says:

    is this game on TV?

  130. avatar MattyB says:

    ughhhhhhhh

  131. avatar mLem says:

the game is now changing colors…fantastic

  132. avatar rob76 says:

I feel like i am watching a Nordiques game from the 80′s

  133. avatar Dan W. says:

Great. All the blue paint on the ice is fading between blue and red…..glad I’m drinking….

  134. avatar MattyB says:

yea why is it doing that haha

  135. avatar Scott, East Meadow Long Island says:

This telecast is terrible! Cablevision needs to add another HD feed. (all sports teams in HD my A$$)

  136. avatar AngryPete says:

I thought I was the only one having color problems, LOL. The cool thing is that when that yellow striping around the lower part of the boards turns light blue …. it makes me feel like I’m watching the old Nordiques at le Colisee. LOL

  137. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Dan, I wish I was

  138. avatar AngryPete says:

#131 … you beat me by less than a minute on that one, lol.

  139. avatar Big Van Vader says:

I was just about to post something about the colors. Cablevision and Dolan are the worst.

  140. avatar Pritchett54 says:

What is happening to the TV feed? I am watching this game on my $2000 TV, with my $150 per month cable package and it looks like crap. I feel like I am on shrooms. The screen is shaking and changing colors. The blue line is red, the boards are florecent green. It is insult to injury following this franchise.

  141. avatar Staten Islander says:

Is this what its like to watch hockey on acid?

  142. avatar ecairns says:

i can hardly make out what is happening

  143. avatar eric says:

is anyone else’s tv changing colors?

  144. avatar Dan W. says:

The horizontal hold “effect” is exciting…..nice seeing Quebec playing again. Thank goodness, commercials!

  145. avatar greg says:

what channel on cable, I have a ranger vs devil game on 414

  146. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

What’s strange is that Snow was such an intense player, especially for a goalie. He probably had more career fights than the majority of his current roster.

  147. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

I just turned on the game – finally found it on Channel 79.

    Are they kidding?

The picture jumps, the color fades in and out. It’s like watching teh game on rabbit ears in 1982.

    Embarrassing.

  148. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

BTW – That is the only thing this team has in common with 1982.

  149. avatar eric says:

it’s like watching the isles back in the day on tv , but these guys suck.

  150. avatar AngryPete says:

I’d like to think the camera is shaking because the old barn is rocking tonight.

  151. avatar Isles Fan in NJ says:

Holy crap…is this game being broadcast from Mars? This is just crap. And, the sad part is, any complaints to Cablevision go ignored. Any word on whether the games will be in HD on Fios next year?

  152. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Time Warner too

  153. avatar Dan W. says:

IO HD Play of the game!!!??? HAHAHAHAH

  154. avatar MattyB says:

    Another AMAZING powerless play

  155. avatar Isles Fan in NJ says:

Did Jaffe just plug this game as only available in HD on io TV? What an effing joke!

  156. avatar Ed says:

no wonder we can’t score, all our players are jiggling and changing colors

    Transporter malfunction Mr Scott

  157. avatar Matt Scordato says:

Hey CB, should have asked this the other day but what is the explanation for the miserable ice conditions at the NVMC? I recall once upon a time the Coliseum having one of the better ice surfaces in league. What happened?

  158. avatar gino says:

this is part of the great tv contract that cb keeps on talking about why the isles wont ever move to snytv. with what the fans get out of it as well as the respect msg shows the isles we should be seeing some brown on the uniforms as well

  159. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

I feel like I should be wearing 3-D glasses.

  160. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Are the Statsny’s playing tonight?

  161. avatar MattyB says:

The assistant coach in charge of the powerplay should be fired right now

  162. avatar NYIFAN says:

Game looks/sounds better with no picture the way these losers have been playing of late.

  163. avatar Dan W. says:

Howie mentioned the technical difficulties. I guess watching Avatar on ice is better than nothing.

  164. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

I have not strained my eyes this much since I was 13 and trying to watch a scrambled Playboy Channel when my parents went out.

  165. avatar Bill says:

what is richard park out there for with 4 min left? what has he done to earn that?

  166. avatar NYIFAN says:

Might be time for a coaching change……..

  167. avatar ecairns says:

instead of pulling the goalie we should take a skater away cause thats the only way we can score

  168. avatar Irish Isle says:

I feel like I’m back in the 80′s trying to get porn on cable

  169. avatar Staten Islander says:

    P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C!

  170. avatar MattyB says:

this is absolutely terrible…7th loss in a row here we come

  171. avatar NYIFAN says:

The real NYI team has arrived in the past 2 weeks.

  172. avatar WM says:

Draft lottery is looking like a slam-dunk.

  173. avatar Matt Scordato says:

    stink stank stinky and stunk

my condolences to anyone who paid $ to see that travesty.

  174. avatar NYIFAN says:

    L-O-S-E-R-S

  175. avatar MattyB says:

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!! Top Draft pick here we come!

  176. avatar Bill says:

this team is really hard to watch lately. no effort at all. and lately i disagree with some of gordon’s decisions and am starting to lose faith in him.

also, i’ll be the first to admit im a tambellini fan and really would like to see more of him, but look at his ice time and wingmates….kinda hard to get a fair chance to prove youre a scorer when you play 5:42 of something like that with park and weight….

  177. avatar Ed says:

Why do we always seem to lose to a goalie in his NHL debut?

  178. avatar RY212 says:

I know the offence is terrible but this is what happens when you don’t play your team MVP as much as you can. The team chemistry has been destroyed. DiPietro was outplayed by an AHL goalie tonight.

  179. avatar Andre says:

CB, Can we begin looking at the 2010 NHL Draft? The season is over. Isles need to look at moving Comeau, Bergenheim, Hunter etc. I would also put Park on waivers. Lets get a look at Joenessu and Martin.

  180. avatar Big Van Vader says:

Guys, they have NO LEGIT, PROVEN TOP LINE players.

If I gave you a chance to go trade Bailey+ for Kovy again, would you do it now?

    Kovy= Exciting

    Isles= NOT

  181. avatar LES says:

    Irish Isle LMFAO!

  182. avatar gino says:

way to motivate a young player like tambellinni putting him out there for the 1st time in the 3rd w/45 secs left.

  183. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

This was’nt a playoff team in September. Was’nt a playoff team during the six game winning streak. And I think we can all agree it is’nt a playoff team now.

  184. avatar Julie says:

    I think we finish 29th

  185. avatar MattyB says:

DiPietro played decent, This team won’t win with one goal a game. Another draft pick won’t hurt this team lol

  186. avatar LES says:

Irish Isle lmao!!, thats what i was thinking what the hell was goin on with the tv? isles on cspan? anyhow at this rate we can count on missing the playoffs and getting at least a top 10 pic , i smell a “gordon must go” chant next home game tusday ???

  187. avatar Joe G. says:

and Wang says we are way ahead in the rebuild.lolol… what a joke.

  188. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

I just wish they did’nt play as if their opponents are wearing the yellow non-contact jersey’s.

  189. avatar Big Van Vader says:

    Taylor Hall, anyone?

To quote “Macho Man” Randy Savage,

    “Oooooooooh yeaaaaaaah!”

  190. avatar Bobby BanTon says:

Buy out gervais and sign chelios!

  191. avatar LES says:

is it just me or does dp just look slow and out of synch with the pace of the game ? a wraparound should be a easy save ? get those pads together dude

  192. avatar JPinVA says:

    Quite a young man indeed.
When did the Isles change their broadcast network to Wometco?
I’m glad to see the Islanders have a new 5:00 per game enforcer… Jeff tambellini!
DP is still not sharp. That deal looks better and better every day. 12 year anchor on the bench… Wahoo!
Nice interview by Wang. “Howie, you’re not supposed to ask me that..”
[You’re fired… Ha ha… I’m just kidding… if I fire you Dolan will send in HIS son-in-law to do the games…. And you know how I hate NEPOTISM.]

  193. avatar JPinVA says:

…and now for something completely diferent… Our #1 overall doing his best impersonation of Joe Walton.
    CHARLIE WANG’S FLYING CIRRRRRCUS…cue music..

  194. avatar rpchief says:

I love all the talk about the great feed from lastnight. Just got finished having a seizure after all the color changes on my none HD feed of the game lastnight. What a joke, channel 66 cablevision suck when it comes to our Islanders. I love that NJ gets preference over NY on Long Island.
