COREY TRIVINO OUT FOR THE SEASON
Boston University prospect suffers broken leg

by admin on February 17th, 2010 at 8:55 pm

Hey, you can’t blame my old friends the Islanders trainers for the bad run of luck that’s hit prospects Travis Hamonic, Calvin de Haan, Mark Katic, Mikko Koskinen and now Corey Trivino.

Trivino, the Islanders’ second round pick in 2008 before Aaron Ness and Hamonic, suffered a broken right fibula during Boston University’s 5-2 win over Maine. What was originally called a high ankle sprain by BU coach Jack Parker was later changed to a broken leg. See, that sort of stuff happens at every level.

A sophomore, the 6-1 center made only small strides in his development this season. Trivino had just 4 goals and 15 points in 28 games. Worst of all, the injury will cost him big-game experience in March.

Trivino is likely to stay with the Terriers next year for his junior season. He has been praised this season by Parker for his defensive play and was matched up against top lines. The second-round pick still has a way to go to prove he’s worthy of an NHL contract. There is plenty of time and he just turned 20 last month.

All Islanders prospects should be in bubble-wrap 24-7.

  2. avatar Kevin says:

get well soon Trivino. Hopefully we will see you at rookie camp again this summer.

  3. avatar Mark P says:

As long as Hamonic eventually is in out Top 4, I can deal with the shortcomings of the Trevino and possibly Ness picks.

  4. avatar islesfan999 says:

Lets go islanders. Snow better make some sick moves @deadline. Hope trivino recovers quick as I was hoping he would be a solid 2nd liner one day.

  5. avatar Ethan K says:

That stinks. Not major though. He’s not a big prospect for us at the moment. Who knows, maybe he breaks out in his junior year, and ends up in the Bridge. But he’s a long way from being on the Islanders.

  6. avatar Eastonhockey says:

Not to sound pessemistic but 20 years old n can’t score goals in college isn’t going to lead to a important NHL player. The future of the isles to hopefully become as good as the osgood/yashin years will require some top end talent. Developing multiple 3rd n 4th liners won’t matter. That’s why it’s not important to me what comeu ..tambellini..sim..junseu…etc do. The isles didn’t become exciting in 93 because of brad dalfarno n Marty mccinis……it was the turgeon line that made them exciting.

  7. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

    What bad luck. Unreal.

  8. avatar Mike L says:

Congratulations Corey Trivino you’re officially an Islander

  9. avatar isles420 says:

why does god hate the isles?

  10. avatar Terry99 says:

The Hockey gods must be pissed…there’s no other explanation. Thats some big setbacks for some high draft picks.

  11. avatar goislesgo105 says:

Do other teams have this many injuries to their prospects too????

  12. avatar mw147 says:

Very sorry to hear about this. I saw Trivino play at the Isles rookie camp last summer. I was impressed with him.

I was hoping he would have progressed further this season, but there is still time for him to become an NHL player.

  13. avatar Czerkawski21 says:

    who’s next?

  14. avatar 1972 means i'm old says:

OK. So I live through 2008-2009′s injuries knowing we’ll get a big prospect. Cool. Tavares is delivered. Then I buy forty tix for the 2009 Mets and end up watching a AA team. Then I get tix to all eight Giants homegames and the GMen fall like flies. Then I go to Newark early this year and see Martinek get a season-ending injury. Now I read this. Am I a jinx?

  15. avatar WIll C. says:

Good Lord. Don Cherry is about to name us the NHL’s all sissy organization. This is getting silly.

  16. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

I’ve seen him play in person and he did not impress me. I watch him on NESN as well. He looks like he has a lot of upside but has not been the “sniper” that was tagged to him before BU.

  17. avatar isles08025 says:

you can’t make this stuff up!

  18. avatar battfist says:

Roloson better get a new mask ready…

  19. avatar RD says:

Sounds like a waste of a good 2nd draft pick. Jankowski can’t get em all. Hopefully Ness is doing better this year than last. Some of these picks needs to pan out. Hopefully, Ryan will have a nice top 10 pick this year.

Hey CB, any idea of what kind of player we will look to draft in June? I think it is safe to say it won’t be a goalie. Any tidbits for us. Thanks.

  20. avatar mike 8 says:

You can’t make this up, every day another prospect goes down with a serious injury.

  21. avatar Ben says:

I think I’m getting used to this!!!!!!!!!!

  22. avatar Irish Isle says:

On the bright side, they are getting their inhuries out early

  23. avatar neologizer says:

Somebody (ie trainers) should have told him to drink his milk

  24. avatar Blizzard says:

    ….sheesh, rack up another one.

  25. avatar MickeyBoy7 says:

It’s probably all this talk of moving to Willets Point near Citi Field. Mets KARMA.

  26. avatar John in Oregon says:

#1 Jim Clarke Bubble wrap the prospects 24-7…Funniest post in a while. Wow, hopefully these injuries don’t follow them into the organization

  27. avatar isles316 says:

    god..

  28. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Well Trevino off the video from last years prospect camp was still one extremly skinny dude. That seems to be his only problem. As long as he bulks up he’ll be a player. Sucks to see so many guys getting injured. Time to love the gym boys.

  29. avatar jonsson3 says:

Now he might turn out to be the next Bruno Gervais!

  30. avatar dedshark says:

Kyle Okposo suffers from severed spine while swingin a golf club… thats my next guess

  31. avatar Walt says:

Proud sponser of the New York Islanders Blue Cross Blue Shield!

  32. avatar Devon says:

Can you say snakebit? I mean, really, this is getting nuts.

  33. avatar Jim M says:

There is only one way all of this horrible news could get worse. If the injuries began to spread to the big club. Oh wait, there’s still 20 games left this season…god forbid

  34. This kid sounds like a wasted pick…hope we are wrong.

  35. avatar Ricky T says:

Maybe this has something to do with the Isle’s often picking undersized players. Smaller, weaker players are more likely to get hurt. You haven’t seen significant injuries to Martin, Joensuu, Ullstrom, etc. and it might be because these guys are big and strong. Hamonic is the exception, but he was injured from a very dirty hit from behind. Unfortunatley JT is an example of a weaker player not performing largely because of a size/strength issue as well, though I think he will get stronger and his poor skating will become less of a liabilty. We need more skill AND size.

  36. avatar gary91922 says:

Flashback 1983.. Isles won their 4th in a row. My best friend in highschool, a Rags fan, says “you guys sold your soul to the devil for 4 in a row”. Every years since I am more convinced he was right……
We need to have a sacraficial ceremony on Hempstead Tpke to rid us of this hex.

  37. avatar the bomber says:

this will all be over soon, when the wanger sells the team and they move to winnipeg

  38. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Kudos to Jim on the bubble-wrap comment. LOL Man, talk about a streak of bad luck. The Isles have officially cornered the market on ‘Get Well Soon’ cards. Anyway, get well soon Corey.

  39. avatar C.J. says:

Who knows… maybe this will motivate the kid/

  40. avatar Ron says:

    Wokka Wokka Wokka….

  41. avatar JimfromStjames says:

    cue twilight zone music…

gary91922, the sacrificial ceremony on Hempstead Tnpk? I have two word for you

    Mike Milbury

Petrov is gonna start thinking it is safer in Russia.

  42. avatar Metalcoconut says:

Who forgot to tell Corey that he needed to hurt his shoulder not the leg.

  43. avatar bob l says:

we should just have cairns standing with a hammer on draft day, we select a lad, cairns breaks their arm or leg to get the injury out of the way, and they heal up before their season starts up and they don’t miss any crucial developmental time

    :-)

  44. avatar 50 in 50 says:

And another one bites the dust. This rebuild will take forever at this rate. Lets draft another batch of 20

  45. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

    What else is new?

I feel bad for the kid … but he could look at the bright side … he’s joined some great names of Isles prospects to get injured … perhaps a good omen for the kid.

Get better Corey … We’ll see ya sometime soon.

  46. avatar Brian in VA says:

All our prospect seem to have one thing in common… They don’t score much! The Islanders “We are all 3rd Liners with luck some might be 2nd Liners.” Woohoo!

  47. avatar Brian in VA says:

The rebuild will be complete unless we land in Queens/Brooklyn in 2077…

  48. avatar Frank nyc says:

“another one bites the dust, uh”

  49. avatar LES says:

if anyone doubts for a second that this team is not cursed , this is the solid proof

  50. avatar Kevin says:

This injury is meaningless compared to the other 4 Top Prospects. Trivino has been a huge disappointment. To me this finishes Trivino as a Prospect. If he ever makes it to the NHL it will be as a 4th liner and w/ another Franchise. The Koskinen injury is really crushing because unlike the other guys Mikko only played 2 games this yr & w/ his size he desperately needed experience & time to grow stronger. All you can do is hope that none of these injuries are signs of things to come for these prospects. As I’m sure other die hard fans like myself can attest to, after watching this franchise for many, many years its hard to come to any other conclusion other than This Franchise is Hexed!!!

  51. avatar Darren says:

Flashback to draft..Garth to Trevino…”Alright kid welcome to the Isles. We have high hopes for you.Now go break-a-leg!!”.Fastfoward today…Garth thinking to himself..”Maybe I need to start drafting smarter players…character is not all its cracked up to be.”Go Isles.
