  1. avatar admin says:

Good afternoon. It’s Scott Gordon and Team USA against Mark Streit and Switzerland. Loser goes home…CB

  2. avatar admin says:

Is an upset by Switzerland a possibility?

  3. avatar nyislanders93 says:

Hopefully Team USA doesn’t come in to this game too confident after a great win against Canada. The Swiss are a much better team than they are credited for. CB, what is your prediction on this game?

  4. avatar Czerkawski says:

maybe, would nice to see the US win a medal, but it would be nice to see Streit get one as well…

  5. avatar Will says:

Anything’s possible. That’s why they play the game. However, I don’t see Team USA losing as they’re a hard working team. But Swiss have an NHL goalie and play a solid system. It’s a single elimination tournament. Meaning anything can happen.

  6. avatar Moose says:

Thanks for doing this CB…I still can’t believe they put the US on at 3.

Is it worth Streit recruiting any of his swiss teammates for NYI?

  7. avatar Steve says:

Only if the US gives up a some penalties and has to kill off the 50% power play the Swiss bring

  8. avatar j says:

    possible? yes, likely? no

  9. avatar Bill says:

is this game on the radio? what station? i’m dying here at work and just want to hear it

  10. avatar SS says:

It’s time for Streit to come home and rest for a few days. With the current Isles’ D corps he’ll need to play as close to 60 minutes a night as humanly possible.

  11. avatar Ian says:

I believe you can catch a live feed off of http://www.nbcolympics.com

  12. avatar Dennis says:

Keep the score updates coming for those unfortunate people like me who are behind a work enforced firewall that filters most video and audio!!!

  13. avatar admin says:

No score 3 minutes in. USA has carried play, but Swiss just had a good scoring chance with Streit leading the way.

  14. avatar admin says:

The crowd, at least 50% Canadian, is rooting hard for the Swiss.

  15. avatar KevFu says:

    Looks like our lines are:

9 Zach Parise 26 Paul Stastny 15 Jamie Langenbrunner
32 Dustin Brown 17 Ryan Kesler 88 Patrick Kane
12 Ryan Malone 16 Joe Pavelski 81 Phil Kessel
54 Bobby Ryan 42 David Backes 24 Ryan Callahan

  16. avatar Bill says:

me too dennis…..video is blocked but if anyone knows a site i can listen to the game please let me know!!!

  17. avatar devon says:

    No Drury, Kev?

  18. avatar Bill says:

where is drury in those lines?

  19. avatar admin says:

he is the 13th forward, which you can play in the Olympics.

  20. avatar Dennis says:

The blocked video feed is driving me almost as crazy as the 3pm starts…LOL. We have a TV downstairs in the lunchroom but the channel cannot be changed. It’s almost torture. If anyone knows any radio feeds that might slip through the filter, I certainly would be grateful.

  21. avatar admin says:

Power play for Swiss. Penalty on Ryan Callahan.

  22. avatar Dennis says:

i think every post from someone with a game observation should start with what period it is and how much time is left. :)

  23. avatar admin says:

Swiss power play over. Parise, shorthanded, had the best chance. 0-0 with 11 minutes left. Swiss miss a big chance soon after.

  24. avatar Paul says:

“Is it worth Streit recruiting any of his swiss teammates for NYI?”

Please let it be Hiller; I don’t get much of a chance to see Anaheim play, but he looks incredible in this tournament.

  25. avatar Bill says:

what jerseys are the americans wearing?

  26. avatar admin says:

Hiller is not an option. He just signed a new contract. The Americans are wearing the modern blue jerseys.

  27. avatar Jason W. says:

98.5 sports hub in boston has the game

    http://985thesportshub.radio.com/

  28. avatar KevFu says:

The “modern” USA jerseys are still “retro” with the old school USA block letters instead of the (sweet) USA logo with a flag S.

  29. avatar Bill says:

the 1980 retro whites that they wore vs canada are amazing….they look so good with that slight modern twist from today’s materials used in jerseys

  30. avatar Staten Islander says:

they wore 1960 retros against canada

  31. avatar Madchef says:

geeze whichever goalie lets in the soft goal will lose

  32. avatar admin says:

    0-0, 5:41 left

  33. avatar KevFu says:

Hahaha. Puck goes into the camera well between the benches. Linesman asks Pierre McGuire for it back. He says “not a chance.” There’s only 3000 of the pucks for the Olympics, so it’s a rare souvenir.

  34. avatar Dennis says:

Jason thanks for the website. It is blocked but I appreciate the try. And Chris thanks for the time “stamped” updates!!

  35. avatar admin says:

Ed Olczyk says game has been “dead even.” I do not agree with that, but I understand where Eddie’s coming from. As an American, he’s nervous as heck.

    Shots: U.S. 17, Swiss 4

    one minute left in first

  36. avatar Steve says:

kessel ripped one off the post after a beautiful move

  37. avatar derek says:

I hate that these games are being played while many of us are at work.

  38. avatar admin says:

Hiller with his biggest save at end of the period. Still scoreless heading into the 2nd.

  39. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

CB, thanks for the live game thread. I wish I was able to watch this live but being at work I can’t. Plus I don’t want to wait to watch it later on teh DVR because the Canada/Russia game should be incredible.

  40. avatar Glen S says:

WOW pretty good period by both team’s, but I do think tean USA out played the swiss, Hiller is a real good goalie so keep shooting and skating hard.
Don’t take this Swiss team lightly, there a good TEAM.
    0-0 after the 1st period.

  41. avatar Marty says:

For those who want to chance watching at work on your computer. It even has a boss button which you hit and an excel sheet opens in case your boss walks by..

    http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/assetid=bf9c2f97-8b8c-463d-bc9d-9af4a7c92ebd.html

  42. avatar admin says:

2nd period begins. If the game stays close, Mark Streit will play 35 of the 60 minutes in regulation.

  43. avatar JP39 says:

hahahahahah that “boss” button is the best thing I’ve ever seen! I didn’t notice it until now…thanks for the heads up, Marty! haha

  44. avatar ShardZ says:

USA has controlled most of the play, but the Swiss look pretty calm and cool. Not scrambling very much. Another US penalty, but so far a much better kill than the one in the 1st.

  45. avatar Marty says:

No problem. don’t want any isles fans to miss the opportunity to watch some good hockey, or to get fired.

  46. avatar Dennis says:

Sadly, I won’t get to utilize the boss button as the filter doesn’t allow the live player to load. Keep those updates coming!

  47. avatar derek says:

    Same boat as Dennis here.

  48. avatar ShardZ says:

Swiss just took their first penalty to the game. Pulled down Parise in front of the net. US to the PP wtih 14 mins left in the 2nd

  49. avatar Bill says:

companies are getting smart….im in that boat too

  50. avatar Dennis says:

This blog is a life saver today. Thanks Botts…..
I hope this is the last 3pm game we get stuck with.

  51. avatar Bill says:

im disappointed no radio station is carrying it….at least the game vs canada was on the radio

  52. avatar Neil says:

Hiller’s play so far shows just how truly awful Brodeur played Sunday.

  53. avatar UIF says:

The live updates have the 2nd period shots even at 4-4…looks like the Swiss came to play today.

  54. avatar ShardZ says:

8 minutes left in the 2, tripping on Swiss, US to their 2nd PP. Swiss definitely have not looked bad, but Hiller has been the key.

  55. avatar Staten Islander says:

The Swiss get more and more dangerous the longer this game stays tied

  56. avatar ShardZ says:

Eric Johnson just made a great play. US got caught, gave the Swiss a 3-on-1, Johnson broke it up, in the follow-up Swiss took another penalty.

  57. avatar potvin rocks says:

    #55 very true
How come no Scott Gordon club can get the PP set up? Dump and chase, then set it up.

  58. avatar UIF says:

Looks like the U.S. shot parade has slowed down a lot in the second, too…judging by the stat updates.

  59. avatar Brother Rat says:

Oh man, and the Swiss come with the muscle. Great hip check…. Hop Schwyz!

  60. avatar JT says:

Hi Chris. Are the Isles scouting the Olympics? Any players of interest to them?

  61. avatar ShardZ says:

The Langdenbrunner Parise Statsny line just had 3 or 4 great chances on the same shift, but still 0-0. Hiller is playing out of his mind. 21 seconds left in the 2nd

  62. avatar Brian G says:

Chris – Any word if Snow is having any contract talks with Sutton’s agent? Seems to be too quiet

  63. avatar admin says:

U.S. looks like they scored with less than a second left on a freak goal.

  64. avatar Nate says:

Mark Streit is really playing and acting like a captain this game. Maybe he should be captain next year over Okposo after all.

Scott Gordon needs to work out a new powerplay plan.

    At last a goal!

  65. avatar Staten Islander says:

    WOW! so close!

  66. avatar admin says:

Holy crap. That’s as close as you can get. NBC’s overhead says no goal.

    No goal. Wow.

  67. avatar Nate says:

.1 seconds short… oh my goodness.

    The Hiller-Miller Thriller continues!

  68. avatar UIF says:

The Islanders should get Vikingstad from Norway…just because it’d be the coolest name in hockey.

  69. avatar Bill says:

that is a cool last name!

  70. avatar Ron says:

Need a clock that counts off 100ths of a second

  71. avatar John T - Halifax, NS says:

what a way to finish the 2nd period.

  72. avatar potvin rocks says:

    what a bummer?

  73. avatar Giaco says:

I’m worried about Miller. He only has like 8 shots on goal and must be cold in net.

    Punch one in USA!

  74. avatar Brother Rat says:

Can’t come any closer to that….wow….but the right call. props to 67/Nate: best game name I’ve seen in a while. The Swiss offense has sputtered in the 2nd, but the US has looked beatable.

  75. avatar Ethan K says:

By the way, who is the Roman Wick guy? He’s been impressive in the times I’ve seen him play.

Looking into it, I found out he’s an Ottawa prospect. Lucky them.

  76. avatar Patrick says:

Glad Hiller didn’t give one up on a play like that. A good day to be Swiss so far. Hopefully Streit can pop one in here.

Less than a week until the trade deadline. When is the roster freeze lifted?

  77. avatar Seth says:

The more I watch Matk Streit the more I love having him on Long Island. He has to be one of the most underrated players in the NHL.

  78. avatar Hoser14 says:

This isn’t good, when a superior team allows an inferior team like the Swiss stick around like this, Team USA is one mistake away from having butkis.

  79. avatar admin says:

Roman Wick is in his 4th straight year of playing in the Swiss league after playing in the Western League. Ottawa and the NHL have not been knocking on his door. This tournament could change that.

  80. avatar Madchef says:

    finally

  81. avatar Madchef says:

finally the us get in the door

  82. avatar admin says:

    Parise goal, 1-0. 17:44 left.

  83. avatar Staten Islander says:

    The Devils connection, NICE!

  84. avatar kevin27nyi says:

    USA!! 1-0 :)

  85. avatar chris says:

finally a goal however i dont think parise ever touched that puck

  86. avatar Brother Rat says:

Nice goal for the US. “If Zach Parise could be described in one word, that word would be ‘persistency.’” Hahaha.

  87. avatar 7:11 says:

Ed Olczyk says “One word to describe Zach Parise…persistency.” LMAO.

  88. avatar Bill says:

are eddie and doc calling the game? who is calling canada vs russia?

  89. avatar admin says:

Still 1-0. Thought Swiss scored. Didn’t. USA has goal disallowed. Kesler called for interference. USA kills penalty.

  90. avatar potvin rocks says:

    yeah doc and eddie

  91. avatar bossy22 says:

is us up 1-0 or was the goal disallowed im stuck at work and cant find a score anywhere.

  92. avatar RichM says:

Drury was great during that kill!

  93. avatar schnip says:

    Bossy
    USA up 1-0
    End of 2nd goal disallowed
Start of 3rd Parise, scored an official goal about 4 mins in

  94. avatar Max says:

Why is Johnson getting booed every time he touches the puck?

  95. avatar JT says:

Hi Chris. Are the Isles scouting the Olympics? Any players of interest to them?

  96. avatar Staten Islander says:

Is it me or has Streit looked much more energetic during this tourney than he does with the Isles?

  97. avatar bossy22 says:

cool thanks. i hate that these games are on so early while people are working. i heard there was a crazy sequence where both teams might have scored and both had to be reviewed. thanks again.

  98. avatar Dennis says:

    How much time left?

  99. avatar bossy22 says:

chris while im actually a part of one of these. i wanted to let you know what a great site you have. i visit it a few times a day when i dont feel like working. hope you get to keep doing it. long time islanders fan but live about 6 hours away so dont get all the news or to nearly as many games as id like to and you have always been helpful with isles related questions. thanks again.

  100. avatar derek says:

CB, Mirtle had a great article the other day about players logging big minutes, alot of guys from Norway. He says:
“I don’t know a heckuva lot about Holos other than he plays in the Swedish Elitserien (and I put him on my fantasy team), but being only minus-3 while playing roughly half of Norway’s lopsided games is impressive.”
Any idea if these guys are worth looking at? 19 goals against and this Holos guy is logging 28 minutes a game and is only -3, that’s unbelievable.

  101. avatar Jim Clark says:

9 minutes to go. Time for Chris Drury to show his great leadership.

  102. avatar admin says:

1-0 USA with 8 minutes left.

  103. avatar Hockey1919 says:

They hate Johnson in Canada from his WJC days. I believe it was the previous time that the USA Juniors won gold.

  104. avatar Dennis says:

If we get stuck with another 3pm game, I am asking to leave early…..this is awful!

  105. avatar Staten Islander says:

3 pm games are the only good thing about being unemployed

  106. avatar admin says:

4:30 left. Streit has played pretty much the entire third period.

    thanks, bossy22

  107. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Eric Johnson has been HUGE

  108. avatar derek says:

Scratch what I said, looks like Holos is in the Avs system. I guess not many players slip through the cracks anymore.

  109. avatar Kaonashi says:

How can that hook on Wick not be called ?

    Go Switzerland ! (Sorry, guys)

  110. avatar PTP says:

Feel bad for Mark Streit, his country’s team is as offensively challenged as his NHL team

  111. avatar admin says:

2-0 final. Parise scores into empty net. U.S. deservedly advances. Played a very strong game. Muller kept it close.

  112. avatar Julie says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  113. avatar Staten Islander says:

    GREAT game

  114. avatar derek says:

Just read that US will play winner of Czech Republic/Finland on Friday at 3. That really sucks.

  115. avatar Froggy says:

Dominating third period. It’s really nice to have that nervous hockey feeling again. Haven’t had it since 2002.

  116. avatar Hoser14 says:

That was too close for comfort, but there is not such thing as a bad win! I had to keep hitting the refresh on my pc, but at least I taped it (and I hope the Cablevision didn’t didn’t go down, DAMN YOU Litte Jimmy Dolan!!!!).

What was Streit’s final TOI (Time on Ice)?

  117. avatar TuxTax says:

    Heck of a game! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A!

  118. avatar fred says:

Would of preferred to have won that one by a wider margin, but it’s the playoffs, who cares!
    USA! USA! USA!

  119. avatar admin says:

    Mark Streit played 29 minutes.

  120. avatar Jim Clark says:

Finally get to cheer for Zach Parise. What should have been………

  121. avatar Chris A says:

Just wondering what will the Isles do with all the players now done with the olympics but their coach isn’t

  122. avatar Ed says:

I’d like us to pick up Zuccarelo Aassen of Norway. He was on a mission all tournament. Speed, skill and lots of heart. Fun to watch and a great name too

  123. avatar JD says:

At least Streit will be able to get some rest now. Great game today or should I dare say “tremendously tremendous”.

  124. avatar Glen S says:

Yes great game by both team’s today, U.S.A U.S.A.U.S.A, I would like to congradulate the Swiss and Streit on very well played game…

  125. avatar doug says:

    CB,

Any chance the Islanders bringing back a player from the Olympics? I was impressed with Roman Wick of Switzerland. He seems to have good hands, young (24 years old) and has some size. He was drafted by Ottawa but didn’t stick with them. What do you think?

  126. avatar Chris TMC says:

Mark Streit should be really proud of himself and of his team… they played a great game and didnt make it easy for anyone. I am proud of both the USA and of him.

I would also like to eat some crow regarding my questioning the logic of putting Drury on this US team. He has been doing a GREAT job and deserves to be recognized for it.

  127. avatar Blizzard says:

…count me in as another questioning Drury. He most certainly proved me wrong in that regard. However I still think KO would have been great on this team…….

  128. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I’m glad Drury proved me wrong. Callahan really hasn’t though. Anyway, GO USA! Oh, and GO SLOVAKIA!!!!!

  129. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Oh, one other thing….my hats off to the Swiss. They are one scrappy team.

  130. avatar Shane says:

CB./ I find it hard to believe that the Canadians were REALLY rooting for the Swiss. There’s only ONE team that we want a rematch with. Our friends to the South. We’re ready to show everyone just whose game it is.

  131. avatar Isles Revamped says:

If only we had taken one these guys:

Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Ryan Kesler, Mike Richards, and My Man ‘Zach Parise’ what were they scout thinking when they took Robert Nilsson? Sister Mary Francis!

Oh well Go TEAM USA !!! U have a tough job against canada.

  132. avatar Austin says:

At least Mark didn’t get hurt.

  133. avatar Lorne Myers says:

And now Streit gets to rest till Tuesday.

  134. avatar Murrays a crook says:

Although I’m proud of our USA team, I’m still disgruntled over the fact that Isles fans haven’t had the pleasure of watching Okposo play in these Olympics. Drury and Cally have played very well but when I watch Cally I think to myself, KO wouldve brought the same energy but he would provide playmaking ability as well. As the mantra goes, as CB said it, “its never easy being an Isles fan”. I just hope we begin to earn and regain some respect in the league. With that being said, how sweet would it be if we take Gold? Canada looked like they were on fire last night, against the Russians and I believe USA will have a tougher task to beat them than in the preliminary round. I still believe USA can throw them off their game by playing physical, good defense and Ryan if Miller he can remain dominant then we have a good chance. Russia didn’t seem to play as a team, IMHO. USA can take it, USA USA USA!
