Good evening, Islanders Country. Thanks for joining in. I’m very happy that longtime Islanders radio Chris King will make a few cameos during the game tonight.

It’s the return of Jeff Tambellini as the Islanders attempt to snap a five-game losing streak. I’ll be around all night…CB

  2. 2 cusi

Glad your doing this, I am on the LIRR and can’t think of a better way to follw the action.

  3. 3 Devon

    Hey, Chris-
I just wanted to share with you a nice “small world” story:
I’m a sophomore at Penn State. My RA last year was from Pittsburgh, and his brother graduated from high school with your former partner, Steve Mears, though he wasn’t known by that name back in his days in Pittsbugh. Back then, he was Steve Miersebeggi, but you already know that.

  4. 4 Brian from Massapequa

Hey Chris - Psyched for another chat. Also for when he gets here, sorry Chris King did not get the call for Sunday’s game when Howie was out again.

  5. 5 admin

The game hasn’t started yet and Doug Weight may already have the line of the night. During the “Ten Question Challenge” on the MSG pre-game show, he says, “Why do you guys want to make us look stupid”? CB

  6. 6 cusi

    Good for Weight.

  7. 7 Joey303

Sure need a win tonite - get 2

  8. 8 admin

Chris King won’t be around until later, when he gets a break from radio duties. To avoid confusion between the Chrises, we will call him “Kinger” for the remainder of the night…CB

  9. 9 Islesin2010

CB I just came on here to say the exact same thing! Great quote from Dougie. It’s funny because it’s so true. Every one of these “contests” I am amazed how little these guys know even about their own sport!

  10. 10 Staten Islander

The contests always crack me up

  11. 11 Joe

Wow, Shremp is not intelligent at all. Garth should waive him for this!

  12. 12 cusi

    What he do???

  13. 13 nystrom23

Anyone the kovalchuk blog….deal going down tonight to an east team…not bruins and not rags

  14. 14 admin

As you know, I usually like to keep the talk all Islanders here, but since one of the best players in the game might be traded in the next few hours, Ilya Kovalchuk chat is fair game. New Jersey Devils could be the team…CB

  15. 15 cusi

    Devils wow!

  16. 16 CHRIS KING

Hi everybody - special thanks to CB for letting me join you all tonight as my duties permit - if you missed the MSG 10 question challenge in the TV pre-game show, we run it in the intermissions on the radio side tonight. I think the first goal is BIG tonight - Nitty has been hot for the Bolts and the Isles opponent has scored first in the last 7 straight games…

  17. 17 nystrom23

Ilya to the devs its not suprising at all….lou always has something up his sleeve…cb, u think brian burke maybe pulled another fast one and landed him too?

  18. 18 Islesin2010

And we’re absolutely certain it will not be our Isles??

  19. 19 Staten Islander

The Devils? Damn, Lou did it again, if true. Wish he was running the Isles the last 18 years, no offense to Garth

  20. 20 admin

#16 - Welcome Chris King! (see above). Or Kinger, as we shall call him to avoid confusion!. Thanks for joining in, Kinger…CB

  21. 21 JT27MP

    Long live the Kinger!

  22. 22 Isles22Isles

    Lets Go Islanders!!!

Can We Talk About Nate Thompson Tonight?!?

  23. 23 Jersey Steve

I hope Tamby doesn’t drop a water bottle or else he may get benched again.

  24. 24 nystrom23

espn reports it is the devils

  25. 25 brian

i wonder what the devils gave up?

  26. 26 Devon

    Oduya

  27. 27 Giaco

How about a little Let’s Go Islanders tonite…. Isles 4-3.. Isles blow 3-1 lead… win it with a late goal… Tavares with a pair including the PP GW with 6 minutes left.

PS Nate Thompson going to be throwing bodies tonight…

  28. 28 Crackhead Theo

Kinger I miss hearing your voice on the radio. I remember back in the good old days when it was you and Wideman. You’re the best!

  29. 29 IslesinOside

Wow Kinger…you broadcast just as good on Blog as you do on the air! Welcome to IPB….The greatest site on the Net!

  30. 30 Islesfan88

    devils cup favorites now?

  31. 31 NINO

    WE HAVE TO WIN

  32. 32 jeff

Isles PP: Doug Weight (no goals) at the point. Matt Mouslson (leading goal scorer) on the bench. HELP!!!

  33. 33 Quietman

Must keep momentum after power play.

  34. 34 battfist

Good to see Hunter still on the PP…

  35. 35 Chris Mc

wow devils actually went out and got scoring. they may actually be the team to beat now

  36. 36 Quietman

    yeah

  37. 37 its time

kinger we miss you on the radio

  38. 38 Quietman

Welcome Kinger! Much love for all of your work with the Islanders over the years.

  40. 40 battfist

    Kinger…CB…fellow Isles fans…

Is it time to try Gervais at wing?

  41. 41 CHRIS KING

Thanks for all the kind words everyone - I really appreciate it!

You all know I love my line and D combos - here are the latest for the Isles tonight:

    26-13-21
    20-91-57
    15-51-7
    16-93-10

    2-8
    25-47
    56-44

  42. 42 19 Isle in NJ 22

    Kovy and Parise together?

    Who did the Devils lose?

WoW!! Atlanta’s in the thick of it … and they give up their best players ever?

I wonder how this trade will affect Snow’s decisions. Not that the Isles are competing for a spot against the Devs.

  43. 43 Ethan K

Ilya Kovalchuk to the Devils will be a scary thought. I bet it’ll only be a rental though, so no real threat to the Isles long term… I hope.

  44. 44 Ryan

wait did Howie just say they wish the best to Witt as his NHL career is over?

  45. 45 MattyB

Really hope the devils don’t sign Kovi long term. Just what we need. Another All STAR in the division.

  46. 46 admin

    (44) Sean: No, he just wished him the best.

However, if the NYI are serious about not putting him through re-entry waivers, he may in the minors a while…CB

  47. 47 Dan

the puck bounces around in TB just like it does at home.

  48. 48 IslesNation

Boy does JT go down a lot. I see him on the ice two times every shift

  49. 49 dmen77

    I can’t see Lou giving anyone 10 mil+ a season…and I really don’t think we should either if Kovalchuk becomes a UFA.

  50. 50 Staten Islander

Is it me or does it seem like the Isles have more trouble getting passes thru and finding open ice than most teams?

  51. 51 CHRIS KING

Good to see Tamby playing with Frans & Hunts tonight - he has told me many times he considers Frans the best center he has ever played with - that should give him a nice comfort level in his first game back. And Trent can create some space for Tamby to work in with his physical game.

  52. 52 mofunky77

He is only 27. I would sign him as a free agent. Hes going to Kings in the summer.

  53. 53 admin

I’m sure the Devils will try to get Kovalchuk long-term. The owner is serious about adding spark to the team and selling more tickets. No doubt Vanderbeek was behind this deal as much as Lamoriello. They’re undergoing some changes in New Jersey.

Also, Kovalchuk has a significant other and child in New York…CB

  54. 54 mofunky77

What could Snow get for Sutton if the Isles are out of it? He has played well this year and has stayed relativley healthy.

  55. 55 nystrom23

The devils gave up alotttt based upon what CB just said

  56. 56 MattyB

CB, you gotta think with the devils giving up that much, they have real aspirations about signing him long term. I mean they’re already good, they wouldn’t give up that much for a rental would they?

  57. 57 billy

wow, what a move by tavs. so not fair that he didnt tuck it under the crossbar

  58. 58 CHRIS KING

When are the Isles going to have one go IN off the x-bar or post? The have been snake-bit off the iron and OUT so much lately.

  59. 59 battfist

Tavares + “man muscles” = superstar

  60. 60 Giaco

Kohn is gonna get it from Downie later on but nice physical play from Kohn…

  61. 61 puckhead

Also, Kovalchuk has a significant other and child in New York…CB

    DING DING DING!!!!!!

  62. 62 Melvin

John Tavares looks like he’s having his best game in a while. Maybe he’s coming back around.

  63. 63 Chris Mc

how is that interference? downie was trying to play the puck and was 2 inches from touching it?terrible.

  64. 64 Crackhead Theo

CB or Kinger, do either of you guys think that the Isles could pull off a trade with Chicago for either Byfuglien or Sharp?
I feel like we will struggle to make it to the cap floor again LOL

  65. 65 admin

    GOAL - Stamkos, 1-0 TBL

  66. 66 MattyB

    Game over hahaha jk

  67. 67 bcarroll25

keep sutton, get him to sign an extension.what would hunter fetch?

  68. 68 jeff

Why would Tampa have the best scorer out on the PP? Maybe they should speak to Gordo. Oh wait, they want to score.

  69. 69 Crackhead Theo

Our PK is horrendous. That MUST be addressed in the offseason. I feel like we get scored on every single time we are short handed.

  70. 70 ny711ot

Man stamkos is good…melrose is an idiot.

  71. 71 dmen77

    pinch me we scored!

  72. 72 admin

    GOAL - Islanders, 1-1

  73. 73 Willy P

good quick comeback goal… the fans needed that to stay tuned and the players needed it to stay focused

  74. 74 Willy P

20 goal score???? on the islanders???

  75. 75 Giaco

such a horrid goal but i’ll take it… Mattttty ICEEEEE

  76. 76 Staten Islander

MATTY ICE! lucky goal, but I’ll take it

  77. 77 jeff

Time for Gordo to cut down on Moulson’s TOI.

  78. 78 MattyB

Hockey gods, for Isles 900 posts

  79. 79 19 Isle in NJ 22

Yeah … I don’t see Lou sending away all that for a rental … unless … he thinks this season is the last really good shot he thinks his team has a legitimate shot at the cup. The Devils are looking at a lot of changes the next few years. Brody isn’t going to around much longer (at least at the elite level) … and without him at that level … the Devs are mere mortals.

  80. 80 NINO

isles make you sweat and suffer tiil the end….

  81. 81 Islesfan is Vancouver

Is it possible for someone to track how many pp goals against we allow when park is on the ice compared to nielson and ko? This is getting ridiculous. The guy just has no puck sense. We should have waived him a month ago

  82. 82 Ethan K

Matt Moulson the pinball wizard! We all know he planned that shot!

  83. 83 19 Isle in NJ 22

Where would the Isles be this season without that hidden gem pick up of Matty Moulson. Thanks scouting staff and Garth.

  84. 84 Anthony Yampol

Gervais has actually looked competent in the offensive zone in the first period!

  85. 85 Chopper

Just read that the Devils got Kovalchuk…

  86. 86 CHRIS KING

Isles get a GOOD bounce when Moulson’s shot goes in off the skate of Meszaros - is this a sign that the worm is about to turn?

  87. 87 MattyB

    Defense, looks very very weak

  88. 88 Willc77

    Hey Chris,

Moulson is technically not an NHL rookie, but where would he be ranked in the Calder race if he was eligible?

  89. 89 Dan

do you notice how many times KO gets his stick knocked out of his hands

  90. 90 Jim Clark

Which has the higher attendance: Islanders at Tampa or Tampa at NY Islanders?

  91. 91 NINO

now we score and dominate them lets go isles

  92. 92 admin

Turns out the prospect is not Palmieri but - get this - suspended Patrice Cormier…CB

  93. 93 Eastonhockey

Devil fans can enjoy the 50 goal scorer but no team rocks draft partys like Charles wangs islanders!!!

  94. 94 NINO

Devils get kovi we will build through the draft and free agents get used to it

  95. 95 Jim Clark

Bengfords, Odyua, Cormier, ist round pick

  96. 96 ecairns

    CB
Who would have been part of an Islanders package that would be comprabale to the one the Devils gave up?

  97. 97 Tony F.

The lightning are crashing the net aggressively and fearlessly because they know there is no physical presence to deal with. Shremp looks good tonight, he gives 100%. I wish Kyle would shoot more instead of looking for the “sportscenter” pass.

  98. 98 Jersey Steve

If the Devils sign Kovie, I’d call it a steal.

  99. 99 Seth

sorry folks but the islanders didn’t even have anything close to what atlanta wanted. that and charles wang will not spend the money kovalchuk will want come july 1st. the islanders are in a full rebuild and will not look at making deals like this for at least four or five years.

  100. 100 Giaco

My guess if the Isles would have traded something comparable…

Baily, Sutton, DeHaan, 1st rd pick

    sound about right?

  101. 101 JPinVA

    Hi Kinger.
    three quick observations.
    1. That’s two body checks in two games and the Isles were penalized for both… and both were pretty weak calls.
    2. The Stamkos goal should serve as a bit of a lesson for our 91 and PP “SPACING”.
    3. When was the last Islander goal that went in off an Islander stick?

  102. 102 Bob Bassen

    Good deal for the devils,IMO.

  103. 103 Jersey Steve

Actually Giaco, I think your package is better. The Isles pick is higher, DeHaan is a better prospect than Cormier, and personally I’d rather have Bailey and Sutton over Bergfors and Oduya.

  104. 104 JP

I thought I saw DP behind the glass by the Islander entrance. I know the visiting goalie at NVMC suffers the same fate. Is this a home-ice advantage thing or is there really no room to expand the bench?

  105. 105 admin

Sutton would not be wanted by Atlanta. Not someone who’s going to be UFA in July…CB

  106. 106 Neil

I wish the Isles cold make one of these lopsided “insider club” deals that some GM’s apparently have access to? Do you need a membership card or something?

  107. 107 Terrance

How on earth could the Islanders have gotten Kovalchuck?

He turned down Atlanta’s offer of $101 million over 12 years. We all know that Isles owner, LI real estate tyrant Charles Wang, would not have gone for an amount close to that.

  108. 108 The Simtuation formerly known as K-Rob

109, who would go for $101 over 12, thats rediculous for someone whos name isn’t Ovechkin or Crosby.

  109. 109 The Simtuation formerly known as K-Rob

    whops I ment 108

  110. 110 Ed from Philly

    Hey Kinger,
I just wanted to let you know that I loved your work calling the games. When I was in college in Philadelphia (98-02), yours and John Wideman’s voices were all I heard during Islanders games. I would listen to every game on the computer. I sure hope you get to call some more games in the future.

  111. 111 BrassBonanza

Why would Ricky not start this game? This flip-flopping of the netminders just makes no sense to me.

  112. 112 Terrance

Well, that was what THN reported. This is from their site: ” Kovalchuk has been at the center of rumor reports all season and Atlanta GM Don Waddell announced today Kovalchuk had turned down a 12-year, $101 million offer from the club and the team couldn’t offer more.”

  113. 113 MJS

I think its hilarious that Lou came out saying that Cormier’s elbow didn’t deserve a season’s suspension and then deals him the second he gets the chance. Smart of him not to keep a violent kid like that in the prospect pool.

  114. 114 NINO

Devils won deal all mediocre players and a late pick waddell forced to make deal

  115. 115 Joe

Man, the Isles dont hit or play physical at all.

  116. 116 CHRIS KING

Good to hear Al Arbour is in the house tonight. Of all the great numbers Radar has compiled as coach of the Isles, this stat is my favorite one that I happened to dig up preparing for his 1500th game. The Islanders have won 29 playoff series in franchise history - Al was behind the bench for 28 of those. ALL other Islander coaches combined have 1 playoff series win. Let’s see who’ll be first to name the ONLY playoff series Arbour didn’t win - hint - it’s a very famous one…

  117. 117 Brian from Massapequa

The flip-flop is that the Islanders are going with a 1A-1B system unless the one goalie plays himself out.

  118. 118 fortneverlose39

105, I noticed that myself what is up with that?

  119. 119 dose

that they controlled the puck like that for so long and did not score pretty much tells you where this team is at.

  120. 120 NINO

come on score so tampa fans can all just deflate and boo and cry all the way home

  121. 121 CHRIS KING

Isles are just playing keep-away right now - great start to the 2nd period forces the TB time out and now it leads to a goal.

  122. 122 JPinVA

    Thank you Nate Thompson…

  123. 123 battfist

Nothing like Simmer quieting the crowd…

  124. 124 eric

    simer top self. lol

  125. 125 Joe

    Well, thats a momentum killer….

  126. 126 IslesinOside

boy who didn’t see that coming

  127. 127 derek

Just tuning in. Hello All, Kinger, if you’re still here, Love your work.

Lou, if you’re here, I hate you. One of the most exciting players of the last 10 years and he’s going to the most boring team of the last 10 years. Great job

  128. 128 Staten Islander

And Rolo gives it right back, he was probably bored from all that O-zone time we had

  129. 129 The Mick

    Seriously

2-2. TBL scores 25 seconds after Islanders take lead when Sim scores after Islanders keep puck in TBL zone for several minutes…CB

  131. 131 IslesNation

Roloson has looked EXTREMELY shaky tonight and really for the last 2 weeks. I still think the best solution is giving him consecutive starts, maybe even three, and seeing how he plays.

  132. 132 jeff

I was afraid of this. Rolo is playing down to DP’s level.

  133. 133 BrassBonanza

117: What happens when the both play themsevles out of the starting job? Kind of looks like that right now.

  134. 134 Merrick

I’m thinking–there’s our first lead since the 2nd period against the Devils two weeks ago–and poof!

  135. 135 bryan

Wow… what a weak goal at a terrible time.

  136. 136 bryan

    WOW. game over.

  137. 137 dmen77

wtf was that?!?! how on earth do we give up a 2 on none?

  138. 138 MattyB

Roloson, are you fricken kidding me…What a joke. That’s awful. AND THAT IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE D!!!! A 2 on 0! ARE U KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!

  139. 139 Staten Islander

    And BOOOOOOOOM goes the dynamite

  140. 140 Joe

Wow, what an awful play while talking to Arbour. Like how he said “we had some great players back then”. Can Snow do something? Wow this d is bad.

  141. 141 jeff

Gordo is starting to have that Steve Sterling look on his face.

  142. 142 admin

As Al Arbour is giving an interview, TBL goes on a 2-on-0 and score to take the lead. Oh my…CB

  143. 143 Tony F.

    what the hell just happened?

  144. 144 OJK

Ugh. I had to run out East. isn’t there another channel other than 94.3 for out East LI ?

  145. 145 NINO

he is 40 and getting tired rickie should take spot as no 1 and trade rolie and biron back up

  146. 146 MJS

Streaming the game… First off, Kinger, it’d be nice to see you more involved in the broadcast. Perhaps when the Isles stop simulcasting they give you the job.

Also, sounds like Rolo gave up a softy and then got hung out to dry as I’m typing this… 3-2… sweet

  147. 147 IslesinOside

Send Uncle Al to the Bench and let him yell at the boys and scare the crap out of them!

  148. 148 hollywood

HOLY CRAP! What the heck is going on!

  149. 149 Andre

It is in the Islanders best interest to be sellers after watching this game. This team is in a complete free fall. Bergenheim, Hunter, Comeau all should be on the trading block. I would also look to move Roloson for the right deal. We need a top 5 pick.

  150. 150 Giaco

139… a 2-0 is not roli’s fault at all… major major team breakdown there.. embarassing

  151. 151 Joe

Wheres Gillies? Now Konopka, the goon, is roughing up KO.

    What an awful performance.

  152. 152 Joe

We need a fight …oh wait we dont have someone who could!

  153. 153 jeff

Our team is simply too short in stature and too short on talent. This is the NHL, right?

  154. 154 Giaco

94.3 fm doesnt even work near the coliseum lol

  155. 155 jeff

I bet Taylor Hall is praying that the Isles start winning some games.

  156. 156 Jim Clark

    Terry Simpson 17 OT game

  157. 157 CHRIS KING

I don’t blame Roli for smashing his stick after facing the 2-on-0 that led to the goal - 5 Isles caught WAY up ice on that one - they need to get back to the work ethic that started the period so well.

  158. 158 MattyB

Good news, we’ll be the fourth worst team in the league after tonight

  159. 159 MattyB

Good news, we’ll be the fourth worst team in the league after tonight

Was it the Pat Lafontaine 4ot/Washington series that Al Didn’t coach?

  161. 161 hollywood

Hard to imagine that Snow couldn’t offer something more enticing the NJ for Kovolchuk!

  162. 162 Andre

Let the Taylor Hall sweepstakes begin!

  163. 163 Martin O

How is Tambs looking tonight? Im stuck at work and cant watch or listen?

  164. 164 Joe

    This is terrible.

  165. 165 Max'n the Hamptons

    Kovy to the devs

  166. 166 Max'n the Hamptons

    I see that’s been discussed :)

  167. 167 Jersey Steve

    Was it Crispy, CB?

  168. 168 Jim Clark

I’m sure the Islanders will offer a tempting contract to Ilya Kuriyakin when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

  169. 169 hollywood

162, Tambs hasn”t played any PP minutes. Gordon has lost his mind!

  170. 170 MJS

What in the heck happened? They were dominating earlier in the period right? Stupid simulcast! Bahh!

  171. 171 IslesinOside

@162 — Tamby looks just as bad as the rest of the Isles! He fits right in.

  172. 172 MattyB

139… a 2-0 is not roli’s fault at all… major major team breakdown there.. embarassing……….

Ugh, I didn’t blame it on Rollie, I blamed the 2nd goal on him. You can’t blame a goalie for a 2 on 0. It was a total fail by the 5 players in front of him

  173. 173 Joe

    They are being physically demolished

  174. 174 Bill

this team could use a kovi….nobody scores

  175. 175 CHRIS KING

Nice job Jim Clark & Big Daily Mac - the Easter Epic series vs. Washington in 1987 is the correct answer - the only playoff series ever won by the Isles without Al behind the bench - Terry Simpson was there for that one.

  176. 176 Martin O

Thats too bad man I think we all caught the fever two weeks ago….Man has the Isles star fallen….

  177. 177 Bill

and how can you say tamby is playing bad? its tough to be bad when you see 5 min of ice time so far

  178. 178 ecairns

    we are getting abused

  179. 179 Jim Clark

Terry Simpson Easter Epic over Caps in 1987..

  180. 180 Joe

Now Bruno is decked. Whoever decided to send Gillies down should be fired.

  181. 181 Tony F.

This is like watching the Keystone Cops play hockey. Is there an unwritten rule that you can’t body check Martin St. Louis?

  182. 182 Vas

I don’t know about you ladies and gents but I want this team to nosedive in the standings! I would rather have a top 3 pick than have the 8 spot! Just my opinion and I am a season ticket holder! The reason I say this is because we can never get a top free agent so might as well get a great pick!

  183. 183 IslesinOside

relax Bill, I like Tamby probably more than anyone here. It was more to let 162 know how bad the Isles look tonight.

  184. 184 Steven

Terry Simpson. 1987 Round 1 - Easter Epic.

  185. 185 hollywood

Snow should have offered Baily, Comeau, Kohn and our #1 pick for Kovolchuk.

  186. 186 james

i cannot beleive how much this game has changed in 23 seconds. this captain needs to get on these boys’ butts a lil more

  187. 187 UIF

Boy this second period’s been painful to watch so far.

  188. 188 Blizzard

…The Islanders are getting bounced around pretty good. And after last year I do not ever want to see the Islanders lose. Those hoping for a nosedive shame on you…..even though its probably best….lol.

  189. 189 dose

it’s like 5,6 years ago when they had tons of chances but couldn’t bury the puck if the world depended on it.
the ‘93 run was great because of all the finishers. turgeon, thomas, hogue, ferraro, king. sheesh. what happened to guys like that?

  190. 190 ed

Can we please start a thread about why Garth Snow should be fired? There is no doubt the islanders are going to be outscored and outhit every game. This is like watching a women’s hockey team. Snow is Pathetic. There is no doubt the Islanders will be in the lottery again.

  191. 191 rob76

park totally just ruined a perfect 2 on 1 chance with an awful pass

  192. 192 ed

How can the captain get on anyone when he is obviously done?? Weight is toast and wasting a roster spot and you want him to get on people?? Captains should lead by example, even if it is just a little bit. Weight has no presence whatsoever

  193. 193 admin

    (186) Not that Waddell hit the motherlode from the Devils, but he would have laughed at that offer…CB

  194. 194 MattyB

No chance Atl would accept Baily, Comeau, Kohn and our #1 pick for Kovelchuck…….Nd Howie easy there, Rollie didn’t touch that shot haha

  195. 195 Joe

someone check howies ears ..how could he not hear the PING

  196. 196 battfist

    Howie Rose….

  197. 197 hollywood

thank heaven it’s only 3-2. They should be down by a dozen!

  198. 198 Blizzard

….well as far as the Kovie trade, very uncharacteristic move by the Devils. CB what do you think the Devils chances are of signing him? Assuming they want to?

  199. 199 Vas

#190 you are right! inever wanna see them lose! However, every year us fans say lets get this guy lets get that guy and what is CB’s opinion every time! Nope sorry fellas! keep dreamin! AND HE IS RIGHT ALL THE TIME! We will never get a premier player and keep him until the young pieces are in place! Nobody wanted to play for the Penguins 6 years ago!

  200. 200 Bill

in howies defense, billy thought rollie saved it too.

  201. 201 admin

My apologies. Not that I’d have a lot of insight anyway, but I didn’t count on the Kovalchuk deal coming down just as the game started. Trying to juggle two sites now, and doing it crappily.

Thanks so much to Kinger for coming on. We’ll both be around during the third.

Hopping on a Don Waddell conference call during the intermission…CB

  202. 202 MJS

Ed, didn’t everyone in the world expect the team to suck again this season? So this is what we were supposed to be dealing with all season right? So, the rebuild is still going. I can’t say Snow should be fired because this is what everyone expected at the start of the season. How soon people forget.

  203. 203 jeff

Sorry CB. How can you say that the package proposed by 186 would be laughed at. Bailey looks like he might be something and the Isles # 1 will likely be a lottery pick, while Dev’s will be in the bottom 5. Please elaborate.

  204. 204 1972 means i'm old

I’m screaming mad that we’re losing now and playing lousy hockey. And that’s good. Why? Becauase this time last year, I didn’t give a d**n. Gotta keep things in perspective.

  205. 205 Bill

that was disgusting 2 on 1….terrible lead pass and then i love KO to death, but idk where he was going with that…waited til he was behind the net to do something. youre the best player on the team…. SHOOT!!!

  207. 207 admin

    (204) I actually only saw the names and the No. 1 pick didn’t register. Fair enough, although a team would never let a Josh Bailey get in the way of making a deal like that…CB

  208. 208 Lenny

CB and kinger- great job as always. Do you think it’s time for a lil shakeup in the locker room, and give KO the C? It obviously has paid off for Carolina so far, and if KO is really going to be C of the future (i think he will/should be), why not just give it to him now when he still has weight in the room to help him out. I think weight would understand the move, and accept it well.

  209. 209 P

Anyone have Fios with a messed up signal on msg+2? The picture hesitates or freezes for a split second. It’s been doing this for a while, really annoying!

Bengfords, Odyua, Cormier, ist round pick. Bergfors is a nice player, other then that give me a break!

MSG broadcast including Josh Bailey with Stamkos and Doughty as the breakout sophomores of the season…CB

  214. 214 Jersey Steve

I’d be ecstatic if I were a Devils fan. It was a good trade for them. Obviously if they don’t resign him it kinda sucks, but I think it was a solid job by Lou nonetheless.

  215. 215 Jersey Steve

    I laughed at that poll.

  216. 216 Andre

Adding only Tavares and Roloson with adding proven scorers or improving the defense gets you back into the lottery. No question about. The surprise has been that the team did not free fall earlier. They better improve the team through trades and free agents. Nobody wants a lottery pick anymore after this year.

  217. 217 dmen77

Saturday night’s game will feature MSG doing a Vezina watch with Brodeur, Quick, Miller and Roloson.

Sometimes I wonder how unknowledgable do they think we are?

  218. 218 Vas

What free agents! All B or C class free agents! The franchis sits their and twiddles there thumbs after one free agent pick up! We have multiple holes to fill! Not just one.

  219. 219 Chris Mc

Bailey is having a solid second year but to include him with Stamkos and Doughty is a joke. I know its for the home team but still. Id actually vote Doughty. The points he has put up as a d-man is impressive.

Lets go Isles! Big time 3rd period here.

  220. 220 bobby rocky

can anybody shoot/finish? jeeez somebody take a shot when we have an odd man rush

  221. 221 CHRIS KING

Isles are 1-21-4 when trailing after 2 periods - wouldn’t tonight be a good night for win # 2? Let’s see if they can start the 3rd period the way they started the 2nd…

  222. 222 Martin O

Can anyone on here recommend a place locally to get hockey jerseys lettered professionally? I got a Knights Jersey I wanna get lettered with Tavares.

  223. 223 Steven

The Devils need to sign him long term. They cannot sell out there new building despite being a very good team for a long time. Kovy better bring the cup especially if the Devils do not resign him.

  224. 224 Islesphan25

There are no place locally…I know that the mall in Smithhaven has a new store and have meet the guy and he sends them out to queens. Some of the work I have seen was good, but I am not sure for OHL jerseys.

    Try Icejerseys.com or coolhockey.com

  225. 225 jeff

Why does Gordo insist on having a forward play the point on the PP? Weight adds nothing and KO needs to play in front.

  226. 226 TuxTax

Not only one of the worst but the ugliest power play in the league!

  227. 227 rob76

It would be easier to watch these losses if we never got a power play. Watching this joke of a PP makes it so much harder

  228. 228 Martin O

    Thanks Islesphan…

  229. 229 Chris A

I find it fitting that the power play is sponsored by the NY lotto

  230. 230 CHRIS KING

Special teams have really hurt the Isles lately - they need to find a way to win that battle - PP is now 0-for-the-road trip.

  231. 231 Numbers65 in Ohio

If you got points for the most giveaways on the powerplay, we would win.

  234. 234 Martin O

Does the Iceworks Pro Shop do OHL Jerseys? Is it professional stitching and specifications?

  235. 235 tommym

Tavares centering Bergenheim and Comeau… Someone needs to ask Gordon why… If he wants to help his struggling #1 pick, put him with some people who can actually help create or finish…

  236. 236 Strummer's Army

This team hasn’t been physical prepared to compete in the NHL for several years. All of a sudden Tampa is throwing huge hits and real into the pushing and shoving huh? I guess seeing Comeau assume the fetal position will make the rest of the teams feel even more like they can do as they please to the Isles AND THEY ARE RIGHT!

  237. 237 Lenny

time to put jt, ko, and moulson back together to get some of that magic from the beginning of the year.

  238. 238 Bill

tommym…i totally agree, problem is, there is nobody on this team that can lately

  239. 239 Jersey Steve

I don’t understand some of Gordo’s line combos either.

  240. 240 purify

lenny u are absolutly right have to get that line back together. btw get gervais of the pk unit.

  241. 241 CHRIS KING

  246. 246 admin

Stamkos makes it 4-2, Waddell call finally starts. What a night…CB

  247. 247 Chris Mc

Tavares has been put with almost everyone on the roster. he needs to get out of this himself bc obviously it doesnt matter who he plays with. he looks like hes coming around.

  248. 248 Andy Norway

Physical? I would say lack of talent all over (except in goal maybe) is a bigger problem.

  249. 249 Spartiarti-RVC

roloson’s soft st louis goal change the tempo of this game completely. Isles worked so hard on offense then so lazy defensively. roloson last goal to stamkos was horrific.

  250. 250 Chris.G

and that’s game once more. Jezz, I’m starting to get quite upset. We had it going, and now, were kicking outselfs right back down the chain.

  251. 251 eric

    wow, we just really suck.

  252. 252 The New Isles GM

I feel like I’m watching a men’s league game. Does anybody else feel that. There’s no passion out there and the crowd is dead.

  253. 253 jeff

AL Arbor needs to take JT out on the ice and make him skate until he can go a full game without falling. A full shift would be a nice start.

  254. 254 isles420

they better lose for now on i want to see another goal scorer.

    get rid of tamb’s
    get rid of blake
    get rid of neilson

  255. 255 dmen77

this team is like a can of soda sitting out in the hot sun, no fizzle!

  256. 256 Dan

Well back to the top 5 pick talk again. It was a good run whille it lasted. I just hope the rangers dont make the playoffs.

O and the devils are my favorite to win the cup now. they have a top goalie and offensive stars now. They are a force in the East now(not that they werent already)

  257. 257 Jim Clark

how does that draft lottery work again? You’d think we’d all know it by now.

  258. 258 CHRIS KING

Just seeing how much better Stamkos is in year two can only mean good things for JT next year…

  259. 259 Spartiarti-RVC

im not worried about tavares. He needs one off season like bailey and nielson to get stronger. he not getting any support from teammates. do isles know where the high slot is. does anyone every go there.

  260. 260 IslesNation

Jeff (254) AMEN- For a guy who has so much skill it kills me to watch him repeatedly fall two times every shift

  261. 261 TuxTax

Can I get a Stamkos too? What an improvement from a year ago.

  262. 262 jim b

The Islanders who are in TRANSITION as they say, should still be busy at the deadline to transition into a better team. Theres a lot of younger guys that should be traded because they just aren’t what we need here….
Bruno Gervais- Goodbye please trade this guy.
Comeau-Like em but we need to score as you can see.
Bergenheim-works hard every shift, but he can not finish! He can go.
Doug Weight-We could do without his zero goals…
    Park-Needs to be parted with
Sim-works hard but really any third line guy can produce like him.
Biron-obviously only a matter of time.

If we move all these guys maybe we can make some movement somewhere

  263. 263 jeff

It really is hard rooting for your team to lose, but it really is better for Isles to get a lottery pick.

  264. 264 Frans Dish

Can we just clone 3 Okposos’ it would really speed up the rebuild

  265. 265 eric

but stamkos can skate , jt not so much.

  266. 266 Spartiarti-RVC

i got a suggestion on how to spice up the pp. lets try to get it to point for streit to shoot. oh wait. that is all we do. WHERE IS THE CREATIVITY? isles have lost all confidence.
Dont bench tambellini. he not getting any playing time.

Take hunter off PP, and Bench comeau and Park. They skate around like its the ice capades.

  267. 267 Gillies for President

“Taveduch” or whatever it was never did have that nice a ring to it… but “Halguinler” or “Halsegowler” sound really bad. CB - Please come up with something a little nicer since I will be spending the next 5 months reading your blog and articles on the 2010 draft.

  268. 268 bcarroll25

#260 you’re right, enough of these bad angle shots off of the half boards, especially on the power play.the only guy who goes to the slot is hunter(and by the time he gets there the play is going the other way).can someone, anyone stand in front of the net?

  269. 269 Steven

I have to disagree CB. Not a good night for hockey especially the Isles. The Isles never seem to get the big player. Another bad night for the Isles in a long string of bad nights.

  270. 270 Blizzard

…ummm wow that Stamkos kid can bring it huh?

  271. 271 Cs

I just wanna know why our D are always playing up..i understand its Gordons “system” but i am constantly seeing 2 guys going back..1 a foward..1 D

  272. 272 Doug

What’s that I hear in the distance?? Lottery Balls??? I think it is!!!

  273. 273 The New Isles GM

263 - In response to what you said, I completely agree. Except for the Comeau part. Next season I’d like to see Sim replaced with Chris Higgens. Bring the local boy back. I think he would fit well on this team and have something to prove if he were to come back to NY. Plus he’s a good defensive foward. Since Dougie Weight is on the wing now, I’d like to see Maxim Afenogenov get a 1 or 2 year deal here. Can you imagine him,Berggy and Park on a line. Talk about speed and a forecheck. Sign Kovulchuck and trade Gervais for a new stick boy, I think we look good for year 3 of the rebuild.

  274. 274 Joe

    Another boring game..

  275. 275 CHRIS KING

Isles with 5 of the next 6 at home - really need to turn this around before the Olympic break. Thanks for letting me join in the fun tonight - it’s time for the extended post-game show on 94.3 WMJC.

  276. 276 NYI Hockey retsore the Pride-N-Passion

New Jersey gets Kovalchuk, Islanders get softer by the game and yup…. same old same old Ny Islander Hockey just the new young faces change from time to time….
Disgusted as usual good night from siberia!
Lets Go Isles…. lets Go Islanders!
    This Organization my God!..lol

  277. 277 Bob Bassen

I love my Isles but WHO in all seriousness are we BETTER than?!? Not the same…top to bottom BETTER. ?

  278. 278 Spartiarti-RVC

sorry, i wont bash rollie b/c he has won way more games then he has lost us. this loss was on him.

CB, what does Gordon have against Tambellini. when he gets mins he produces. tonight was not used in scoring roll.

Schremp has gotten complacent too. This team needs an ARBOUR practice right now. Make them stay on ice and work them till the all throw up.

  279. 279 Bill

another dud from a team that just has no desire

  280. 280 Bob Bassen

Kinger! I miss listening to you on AM radio on my trips North Skiing!!!!!!

  281. 281 Seth

why should us fans care if our owner doesn’t care? for the few of us that do show up to games, stop going. charles wang is in it for his project that will never happen and he said it himself that he would have never bought the team if he could do it over. he refuses to spend money which sums it up, he is cheap. keep buying into this “rebuild” that has been taking place since 1994. chris, delete this post if you would like but it’s the truth.

  282. 282 Tony F.

This team is so weak and feeble. I can take the losing just not effort.

  283. 283 jeff

What does it say when Witt can’t make this team?

  284. 284 Big Van Vader

What did the Devs give up again?

Yeah, we didn’t need a guy like Kovy on our team.

  285. 285 IslanderFAN

Honestly they should play DiPietro more often…yea Rolo did a great job…good thanks but hes not future of the team its time to give Ricky the number 1 spot.

  286. 286 Jim M

Can we please start lottery talk. Its going to be unbearable to watch this team for the rest of the season.

  287. 287 Crazy8

Under 10 minutes and no power play time for Tambellini (as per usual). They’re just never going to give him a legitimate chance. What did they have to lose by trying him out for real in this game?

(legitimate chance= 10 consecutive games of at least 15 minutes and second power play unit time. I can’t remember him getting this for more than one game at a time. He’s just not useful if he’s not going to be a top 6.)

  288. 288 Brooklyn Stroonze

    Thanks Kinger you’re the best!!!

Unfortunately I’m not right outside the Coliseum and I don’t have a ham radio so I can’t hear your post game. : (

  289. 289 admin

    Thank you, Kinger! CB

  290. 290 a REAL hockey fan

.. Ive seen maybe 2 scoring chances (non powerplay, 5 on 5) in the 3rd period by the Islanders, and maybe 2 ’so-so’ body checks (Sutton + Hunter) but they have been hit ALOT by Tampa (especially in there own zone, the Dman)..

.. Thats a soft goal (it may have deflected off Striets stick) but thats a kinda soft goal let up by Rollie!

.. They just seem flat as a pancake, they really do. It could be a combination of things (tired? motivation? losing steak? etc) but they are a dead as a doornail team right now — they need the allstar break!

.. These guys are painfully slow/boring to watch, geeeez, no spark, no sense of urgency, NOTHING!!! b=-o-r-i-n-g! ZZzzz YUKKKK!! :-(

  291. 291 eric

no game changer on this team . jt maybe he’s a kid. ko great player not that much of a finisher though. josh kid and so on and so on. we just don’t have the chops all around.

  292. 292 Islesfan_in_Vancouver

sick of watching terrible passing and poor decision making. JT looked good tonight, weight looked awful. Weight does not merit pp time at the moment. Ill advised passing is killing this team.

Lottery pick here we come. It’s actually a good thing because the overall talent level on this team needs to rise. We miss Jack Hillen’s ability to generate offense on the rush.

Park sucks. The guy just sucks.

  293. 293 Blizzard

…soooo how about that draft class? Taylor who?

  294. 294 terry

This team is getting tough to watch. They have to be the worst passing team in the nhl.The real isles are starting to show up.Snow may as well bring up anybody he thinks can play on the isles next year and see what they have. Cut ties with weight, sim, park gerv, meyer and who everelse doesnot fit next year. And can we please throw a check, and get some toughness before someone gets hurt bad

  295. 295 Vas

I have the new islanders commercial! Can’t score + Bad Goaltending + Inept Powerplay + Defenseman that can’t hit the net + Coach that shows no fire on the bench = Another Islanders Lottery pick! LOL

  296. 296 Jim M

of course we wont be BAD ENOUGH to draft one of the big 3 this year.

  297. 297 isles3113

i actually dont want the opposing team to take anymore penalties… the powerplay SUCKSSSSSS soooo much… the team is playing terrible… in the beginning of the year, tavares had at least 3 scoring chances a game… now hes lucky if he has 3 in a week… he has to get back to scoring if this team is gonna win, but thats not news to anyone… i want the team to win so bad, but from the looks of it, another top 5 pick looks like a strong possibility… its a shame i really thought we were going to be in the playoffs

  298. 298 admin

Scott Gordon tells MSG the team wasn’t out-played in the third, his young players will someday be snipers and “look down the hall” referring to Tampa’s talent…CB

  299. 299 Staten Islander

In all honesty, I was expecting them to sink eventually. They hung longer than I thought they were going to.

  300. 300 mtrico

This team is absolutely brutal right now, and the special teams are about as bad as they get. No chance this team makes the playoffs, none. We need to be sellers at the deadline and just get the best draft pick that we can.

  301. 301 Jim Clark

Thanks to CB and KInger for dropping by on this hectic night. Too bad our heroes faded. Go get ‘em Saturday night at the old barn on Hempstead Turnpike. I hope to be there. Disappointing loss but time takes time. Don’t go for quick fixes, Mr Snow

  302. 302 MJS

@ Crazy8 - I agree. I don’t think Tamby could be a game changer, but after the start he had to this season I think he earned at least a longer look than he has ever gotten. I mean 13 points in 24 games puts him up there with Bailey in terms of production, maybe even better. I don’t expect him to produce anything anymore since he’s been in the press box for two months. I guess the Isles believe he has some kind of trade value or else they would’ve waived him or something by now. It seemed like this was actually going to be his year. Seems like a waste.

  303. 303 rob76

i think instead of look down the hall Gordon should have said look at Taylor Hall

  304. 304 IslesNation

CB- Can’t blame you for not foreseeing this, but the Islanders are for all intensive purposes, out of the playoff race before the Olympics. It’s a shame because this team showed real promise for a long time. Very disappointing to say the least. I am very interested to here your thoughts on the performance of Snow and Gordon by season’s end, because if this kind of play continues, and I can’t see it turning around drastically, there are many things to look at and be concerned about, IMO.

  305. 305 Steven

It’s really going to be tough to keep watching the team the rest of the way. Management is going to have to make some kind of move. Take any draft pick back for Park Sim and Weight. See what Bergenheim and Comeau bring back. Charles is going to have to start talking Lighthouse/Isles future because the on ice product is not getting it done.

  306. 306 Jay

Ditto!! Becoming very tough to watch! Have been a fan for years and this is a BAD team! Like last year. Saw them play at Carolina last Thursday. They were smaller, slower, etc. This is a good AHL team not an NHL team. Okposo, Moulson, Tavares, Baliey, Nelisen and Streit are the only keepers on this team. The D men on this team are real bad!! And, there is still no big scorer on this team. Maybe Tavares in 3 years?!

  307. 307 Bob Bassen

CB. You have GOT to be kidding me about Gordons post game comments.
    Please? :|

  308. 308 NYICHAMP39

If I see Weight or Hunter on the first powerplay next game Im gonna be pissed. They are both useless and cannot cycle the puck at all. Also, JT needs a night off. Let that kid sit he looks gased and just outmatched out there most shifts.

  309. 309 znatokhokkeya

Chris, the difference between Stamkos and Tavares is that Stamkos is a great skater and Tavares just can’t skate. I don’t think next year he’ll be flying all over the ice. He has great hands, very good vision, but he is just TOO slow. Speed - either you have it or not, you can’t teach speed

  310. 310 Merrick

How much does Hillen mean? Since he left the ice last week, the Islanders have been outscored 18-4.

I wish folks would calm down a bit. Our blue line has always been thin and we got terrific efforts this year just to reach this point. Of that, three of the top six to start the year are gone or out–including the guy who emerged as one of our top 3. Even the Penguins didn’t look so great for a stretch with missing D-men

Also, as I write–Gordon notes the talent factor, which can decisive over an 80-game schedule.

If I’m concerned about anything tonight–it’s Bergie not fully putting it together since he came back, Comeau sliding a bit, and Tamby looking every bit the non-factor who was sat down for so many games.

  311. 311 Lorne

At a major crossroad right now with this team. It may be time to start rooting for us to lose to increase the chances of getting Taylor Hall or Cam Fowler. I guess lets see how the next 5 games go before the Olympic break. Right now, no optimism at all.

  312. 312 Imetbossy

WANG MUST WALK ! Stop torturing the team and its fans and using them as pawns for a project that will never be approved much less financed !!!! Enuff is enough ! Been a fan since 79 ! We deserve better ! CB you are a breath of fresh air …. WANG should learn a thing or two about loyalty from you !!! Dont post this if it “offends the current regime” …BUT Enough is enough ! Sell the team … Just WALK … WALK WANG WALK >>>> and WALK AWAY !

  313. 313 Mike P

How come every time they lose they gave no effort? i don’t think effort is the problem, we just have too many kids in key spots who are going through the growing pains of learning to play in NHL

  314. 314 Mike P

311- Wang walks and so does this hockey team when the lease expires. I just do not understand how Wang is the problem, he seemingly has given Snow control of hockey things unless CB can dispute otherwise.

  315. 315 RY212

Gordon’s starting goalie selection this Saturday night will tell us if Roloson is the #1 goalie on this team or if there is now officially a platoon system in place. If Roloson is truly the #1, he should get the start even though he was awful tonight.

  316. 316 JPinVA

I have no doubt that Tavares will be a better player next year… and the team will be better. But this is a team that is being constructed with the philosophy, “I don’t want to lose any more money”.
YOU JUST CAN’T WIN THAT WAY.
Get these kids some help… not a lot… just SOME. PLEASE.
June is a +4 proposition. The time to make this team better is JULY.
    PROOF: Shots 36-30, Goals 5-2
Things are working but they need some more skill on the top.

  317. 317 19 Isle in NJ 22

The problem with me and the way the team is playing lately is … they honestly don’t look like they belong in the same league with the opposition … even the closer games.

Sometimes they look like they are stringing together a few good shifts … then all of a sudden they get a penalty … and it kills any momentum that they might of had.

Even on the PP … if they don’t score … they seem to lose their mojo.

Also … this goes for most of the team … They can’t finish as well lately … even the top guys we are counting on in the future … like JT, KO & JB.

  318. 318 Mike P

CB- do you think veteran players like Sim and Park can be moved for middle round picks. Both are UFA and i doubt they are in the plans.

  319. 319 jeff

320 - Wasn’t he basically saying that the Isles don’t have the talent that the TBL have? They don’t, but the coach doesn’t need to say so. I didn’t hear him say that the Isles miserable PK and PP are all on the coaching staff, which is the case.

  320. 320 Mike P

318- maybe it is time to play DP as the number 1, he is the best player on the team. I mean when Roloson signed here i am sure he knew what was going to happen when DP returned anyway. I think neither guy is set mentally to be one game on one game off types of goalies and maybe they can get on a roll again with DP in net.

  321. 321 BR

For the love of Zeus, step away from the ledge! As of tonight, the Isles are 8 points away (and 4 wins) from improving on last season’s totals, and there are still more than 20 games left. The 09-10 Islanders are what they are. A second-year rebuilding team whose young core have shown growth, and who will be augmented by several new faces for 2010-11. We had a great run in January, but I want Snow to stay the course.

  322. 322 Cairns311

Weight stinks JT can stay at my house. Actually he should stay at Bossy’s house at least he could show him how to score a goal. Bailey and Hillen have been the best on the team and now that there out we stink.Tamby i dont understand he’s better than Sim,Park,Bergenheim and Comeau so he should play.

  323. 323 Mike P

323- The special teams, well more so the PP are struggling because of the youth that plays on it are struggling. Weight, Streit and Hunter are only “vet” players who see playing time on PP. The PK is awful because of the crappy defensemen we have like Gervais(who never gets the puck out)

  324. 324 Hollywood

    Many items about tonight.
    1. as mentioned above the difference between Stamkos and Tavares is wheels. Tavares will be fine in 2 years.
    2. Tamby is wasting away on this team. NO pp time, that’s a joke. I’m sick of Neilson and Weight on the PP.
    3. I can’t stand watching Comeau, he is supposed to be physical. I haven’t seen him hit anyone in weeks.
    4. Okposo and Schremp is a bad combo. They both like to handle the puck. I think they looked awkward together.
    5. Snow and Gordon need to have a heart to heart about WHO the skilled guys are on this team. They might need to reevaluate the talent. Too many guys that play who really don’t fit.
Overspeed is difficult to play with Moulson, Hunter, Weight, Sim and Tavares!
I know Kovalchuk won’t sign with the trapping Devils. I just hope Wang and Snow offer him the world even if it means throwing in 40 virgins!

  325. 325 Imetbossy

317- Snow may have “control of hockey ops.” but not any money to pull the trigger … WANG has become the “SLUMLORD OF THE NHL”

  326. 326 Mike P

322- I didn’t see Gordon’s comments as that big of a deal, he was making the point that our younger top players are struggling at same time.

  327. 327 Pez

Listen. When this team wins 4 in a row everyone is going crazy talking about the Stanley cup finals

They lose 6 and people are telling Wang to sell the team

Stop being so damn schizophrenic and learn some patience JT definitely needs to shoot more but has improved tremendously from his slump there’s a lot of hope can’t wait till next season

Thanks CB for the coverage I know it’s a lot of work juggling two sites especially in thie midst of the kovy trade

  328. 328 Mike P

325- Agreed on Comeau, not really sure what he is. May not even be an NHL player. I am not a big believer in Tambellini, he can’t play 5 on 5 at this level. He doesn’t have the heart or skill level of a St. Louis who succeeds at this level.

  329. 329 Mike P

326- slumlord of NHL? wow it is amazing what a losing streak does to this fanbase.

  330. 330 Imetbossy

325- WANG and snow offering Kovi the world ??? what world do you live in ?? WANG is a slumlord who is basically done w this team … He would sign you or I if we were cheap enough … In fact he has…as fans that is ! and pulled a “snow job” on us while all along WAIVING HIS WANG!

  331. 331 Mike P

326- they traded for Smyth and offered him a bigger contract then he got from AVS, his agent even confirmed it but he wanted to play with Sakic and that was deciding factor. I don’t buy that they won’t spend, they need to build this from ground level up so they can convince a star to wanna join the core of Tavares, Okposo and Bailey.

  332. 332 Chris Mc

Can we please stop with the Tamby love. Hes not the answer for our struggling offense or the future. Besides his hat trick, what has he done this year? Since his hat trick he has played 17 games and scored all of 1 goal. Sign him to a 15 year deal

  333. 333 Cairns311

We dont want Kovalchuk because we would be just like the Rangers with Gaborik. We want to bring up guys through the draft not, trade them to get one guy. I’d rather have 6 or 7 picks in the first three rounds at this point.

  334. 334 Mike P

333- Amen, Tambellini will not be on this team next season. People are so freaking facinated by his great wrist shot in shootouts. The goal he scored to complete his hat trick earlier this year is only time i can remember him scoring on a wrist shot in a “real game”

  335. 335 Imetbossy

325- Nothing to do w the losing streak ….These kids deserve better and us as fans do as well … This is bordering on rediculous …How many years must we be subjected to this nonsense ? Yet they have the audacity to call and offer us discounts on tix. … When they put a decent product on the ice (or try) I will rent a g-d damn “luxury suite” ( as I have before ) .for now I can only support the kids and hope they develop properly despite a lame duck owner waiting for some pipe dream development deal …Horrible ! Isles fans are the best fans of any team in any sport ..Yet are treated like - - - - by an owner holding the team hostage …At this point I dont care where they move just get this guy OUT !

  336. 336 NINO

we lose but losing makes you tougher so this team will be tougher after olympics

  337. 337 Lou

The TANK is on, draft lottery here we come!

Tambellini is a hack, a bust. Have him be the waterboy, he’d be more useful.

  338. 338 JTnKO

PEZ(328) you beat me too it man.

Attention Crybabies: Deal with it. This is what you signed up for. (Rebuilds don’t happen 55 games in)

The real talent on this team can be seen night in and night out when you are actually paying attention. Stop looking at stats and watch the damn games and you will see the heart and determination of those who lead us in the future.

  339. 339 Blizzard

…..wow. The fanbase is in hysterics. Ok let me stoke the fire. The Islandera are gonna tank themselves right out of the playoffs. Then after the Olympic break play all loose and go on a streak and draft like 8th or 9th this draft year further perpetuating mediocrity as Snow signs no one of any significance.

    Go..Go looks shell shocked.

  340. 340 Lou

Speaking of the draft, it’s Cam Fowler for me.

  341. 341 JTnKO

PS We dont deserve you Botta, your the man.

  342. 342 Imetbossy

326- Smyth was an isolated case, there he didnt really want to stay in the east regardless of which team … and even then the situation w the development project was still pretty much 50/50..Now that the prospect for the project is bleak … WANG WILL NOT SPEND !

  343. 343 Imetbossy

    CB — U R AMAZING ! TY !

“I would buy a lux suite to see you ( esp. see you skate )” !

  344. 344 Brian G

this team is done….its time for 3 things to happen:

    1. a healthy scratch for Tavares
    2. trade all of the UFA’s
    3. Bring up Joensuu & Trevor Smith and let them play…the lottery watch has begun

CB- Will you have the top 10 draft chart posted tomorrow?

  345. 345 Imetbossy

FOWLER ! ( W / our luck he will be another Berard) …lol

  346. 346 Mike P

342- He spent on DP, yeah hindsight is DP got hurt but what if he does find it again and becomes an elite number 1 for a 4 million a year price tag. He spent on Yashin and Peca, Osgood as well that got them some respectability back. We finally have the right plan in place(look at Caps, Kings and Hawks)

  347. 347 rb

Can we call a moving van for Trent Hunter? I’m sick of looking at him. Somebody should give him a map to find the net.

  348. 348 Mike P

344- Trevor Smith has 28 points in 50 something AHL games this year, he is not an NHL player. I do agree they should start to explore UFA’s like Park and Sim to see what they can get if anything

  349. 349 Terry

I dont understand how they can let themselves get knocked around the ice night after night and not have one guy stand up for himself let alone someone else. This team has to be the nicest team to play in the league.

  350. 350 isles3113

to add to my earlier comment about how bad the powerplay is… last year streit went up the ice with confidence and was able to bring the puck into the offensive zone… now what is does is a little skate to the right, looks to his left and looks to pass it to somebody else who tries to go up the middle and eventually turns the puck over… whoever reads this comment, on saturday when the isles have a powerplay, just watch what streit does, i guarnatee its exactly what i said he does… my point in all this is that they have to make changes on the powerplay and streit and the coaches have to look at some video of his play last year on the powerplay to try and fix what he is doing now

  351. 351 EJ-1since40

#313, with ya all the way, AND CW can take his current management with him…

  352. 352 Mike P

They will get better next year, kids like Rahkshani, Hamonic, Poulin and possibly Ness turn pro next year. They now need to figure out(may already know) about guys like Comeau, Bergy and Gervais this season to see if they are going to be part of this thing going forward.

  353. 353 Terry

Stamkos was a healthy scratch last year

  354. 354 Mike P

350- one thing about the PP i have noticed lately is how high in the zone Tavares has been. I think he needs to be lower towards the net, this is where he is going to score most of his goals from and was where he was playing earlier this year. Maybe your right and it is something the coaches changed.

  355. 355 Alex

Clearly this team has lost its stamina, which is okay for where they are in the rebuild. Currently, as they are fourth to last in the NHL standings and I think if they cannot pull it together by the Olympic break, the best option for their future would be in getting a top 5 pick in this year’s draft. As much as I would love to see them in the playoffs, they do not have the skill or enough left in tank to make a long run this year, and I would much rather them be able to draft another great prospect, as opposed to landing with the 15th pick in June. While last year we rooted for the first pick in the draft by early December, doing so by the end of February this year is still considered progress. The Isles should be looking real good in 2011-2012 if they stay the course.

  356. 356 Brian G

PS: Don Waddell should be fired for that trade…how does he not get David Clarkson in that trade…he was fleeced….Lou even got him to swap 2nd round picks….Seems like ever year Waddell gets fleeced…Coburn for Zhitnik
Hossa to Pitt for Armstong with 3 nobodys..and now this bad Kovalchuk trade…this city of Quebec should thank Waddell b/c that Franchise will be leaving ATL in 2 years max…terrible move on behalf of the NHL…sorry for the rant, but this wasn’t a good trade for a franchise player…I would have just kept him and tried to make the playoffs if that was the best offer.

  357. 357 isles316

Roli made some good saves tonight late in the 2nd period, but the 2nd goal and the 4th goal are stops he has to make. Soft goals by both he and Dipietro are killing this team lately. I know they aren’t scoring goals but it deflates teams, always has in the NHL.

  358. 358 Andre

Here is what I would do.
    1. Sign Petrov and get him over here.
    2. Sign David Ulstrom and bring him over
    3. Picking 1 take Hall, 2 take Seguin and picking 3 Fowler. Otherwise, best available. If I get Fowler I would use DeHaan and 2011 1st round pick as a package to get a scorer.
    4. Goodbye Weight, Sim, Park etc.
    5. Trade Bergenheim, Hunter, and Comeau before the deadline or in the offseason. They have no future here. Hunter’s lack of footspeed is killing the team.
We have to make sure we are players in either the restricted or unrestricted free agent market. No Matt Moulson’s please. I know he is been great this year but you dont win cups with Moulson as top 6 forward. This offseason is the key as to whether Snow has the “rebuild” on the right track or have the proccess fall off the tracks in which he needs to be re-evaluated as GM.

  359. 359 isles316

I disagree with people saying this team has no desire. They had the first 10 shots of both the 2nd and third period and were all over Tampa for large parts of this game. Tampa did a good job of not allowing odd man rushes or Islander players in front of the net and Roloson let up 2 goals that in my opinion are unacceptable. You can say a lot of negative things, but the effort was there tonight.

  360. 360 Brian G

That game was not Roloson’s fault, all of the young guys have faded - Weight, Park, & yes Jon Sim plaed well…Stamkos 2nd goal was a blast and was redirected…..Roloson has been very solid and has given this team some sort of respect this year, and kept them in ever game….but if Snow trades him to a team like Chicago for a decent package I would not be shocked.

  361. 361 Vas

I just want to go to the games and see an exciting team! Win or Lose! BTW can GO-GO Gordon actually show a little fire on the bench! I mean get pissed!!!!!!!!! But don’t go ReTortorella on us! haha

  362. 362 Brian G

CB - Sorry for all of these Posts..everthing is frustrating tonight….Even the NHL has one of their biggest Stars traded and their Network has a Women’s hockey game on with no news breaks about the trade

  363. 363 Frank

Hey everybody! Look on the bright side! The Isles are officially in the bottom 4 of the league! WHOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!

  364. 364 Mad Pete

Crap all over the ice, not fun to follow anymore

  365. 365 eric

Healthy scratch for tavares? I thought Tavares was the only player that showed up tonight for the Islanders! If anyone else showed up, tavares would have put one home. He will put one home Saturday and the Islanders will win, BUT I still think they might be a lotterty team even though I said no way just a week ago. I think Tavares will improve in the last 20 games of the season and play well. I do not see him becoming a star for another 2 years. Thats 2 summers of bulking up and no scoring 30 goals next season does not make him a star.

  366. 366 german islesfan

thanks for this Birthday present :-(

  367. 367 jislander7

this team is cursed. You cant blame Snow for drafting Tavares, he was the consensus #1 but lets face it, he’s not very exciting to watch. John Tavares is a Cory Stillman, Andrew Brunette like player, great hands, great hockey sense, may get 25 goals and 40 assists but he is no franchise player. I’d kill to watch a Kovalchuck but no FA in their right mind will come to LI

  368. 368 Brandon

348 - Trevor Smith could very well be an NHL player if given a chance. He’s far and away the best player in Bridgeport and has nobody to play with there. He’s earned a shot, he’s just not getting it. It’s time.

  369. 369 jonsson3

It was good while it lasted. Its getting boring watching loss after loss. At least we have a good pick coming again.
And we can watch the Rags lose.
This will also make olympic hockey look better.

  370. 370 JPinVA

Some positives amidst a 6 game losing streak.
    1. The “why isn’t tambellini playing” crowd is going to get an answer or an argument soon.
    2. It’s time for Garth to make some tough decisions… just like with Witter. Does Trent really fit this system? Does Comeau?
    3. If they improve next year at the same rate they have from last year this team will challenge for the division. That probably means adding $7-10M in payroll for two top 6 forwards, Sutton, and another 20+ minute “D” to compliment the tremendous bargains Snow has in Hillen and MacDonald. .. Their bottom six should get stronger with Martin and Joensuu at no extra charge.

  371. 371 louie da puck

You guys kill me. This team over achieved this year and gave us an exciting 50 games of hockey…Now the rebuild continues with another lottery pick. You cant scream about Ko,JT and JB not carrying us. They are kids!! The lack of real serious Veteran talent is what is killing this team. Don’t you remember how bare the cupboard was a few years back.Get rid of all the dead wood bring up some more kids and just be patient. 2012 is the season we will all be waiting for!!!

  372. 372 Marc from Troy

Scott Gordon: modern day Bill Stewart?

  373. 373 Glenn

I hate to sound like a ninny or something, but you mean to tell me the Islanders couldn’t put together a comprable package like THAT for Kovalchuk?

  374. 374 doc

Hard to believe that the Thrashers gave up Kovalchuk for a mere bag of pucks and a few broken hockey sticks. Geez…

Hey Islander fans… How would you like Don Waddell as your GM? Snow’s looking pretty darn good.

    Wow!!!

    DOC

  375. 375 Michael P.

373- Comparable for us would be Bailey, Hillen, Rahkshani and our 1st(lottery possibly) pick. I would not make this trade for a guy who can walk at years end and plans on testing market no matter where he was traded

  376. 376 eric

The Islanders have NO BUSINESS trading there first round pick this season, probably do not have any business trading it next year either. Lets get real here, this is a rebuild. Honestly I would take Getzlaf over Kovalchuk. The guy hits, passes, skates well, is tough, is a winner. Okay right now hes half the scorer Kovalchuk is but the guy is a WINNER. Right now I do not categorize Kovalchuk as a franchise or winning player. I take a Getzlaf, Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin, Iginla, and Zetterberg over him right now because you know those players give it there all every shift.

  377. 377 Matt S.

i would take Witt over Bruno every day of the week and twice on Sunday. that kid brings nothing to the table.

  378. 378 ExtraButterRVC

No spark on this team whatsoever. They’re so easily thrown off their game. They can’t expect to carry this into the Olympic break without some significant changes.
The team doesn’t come back from that break and suddenly overachieve again.

  379. 379 Jerky

I’ve officially given up on Comeau - he’s a pure bust. Time to bring up JJ and see what the kids got for the rest of the season.

And yet another game where the Isles were physically manhandled (and by a team that’s not overly physical no less). Sad.

  380. 380 VA Isles

CB, great Idea on the live coverage. thanks again for all you do.

370 371 - you guys are the true fans. Young team, 3-5 pieces away from a solid contender. Hang in there, Isles country. Long run at home before a needed break to recoup.

  381. 381 german islesfan

Marc from troy. i think Gordon will not throw a full bottle of beer from inside to outside of the Bus in the angry fans like Bill Stewart in his days when he coached the former German champion Mannheim with former Isles Pilone Butenschön. Now he is the coach for the Cologne Sharks also DEL. where Stewart is there is entertaintment sure ;-)

  382. 382 german islesfan

i’ll forgot to say through the glasses from the Bus…;-)

  383. 383 battery jackson

the islanders lost last night. look out below because here comes the sky upon our heads. pfft please. :-\

  384. 384 Brian in VA

Trent Hunter nice guy meh hockey player deal him. Same with Bergie/Comeau…

  385. 385 Brian G

Time to make some trades Snow - do not wait and get nothing

  386. 386 Lance79

I have one big question - what the hell happened to JT? Two possibilities: either he’s worn down - BS the NHL schedule doesn’t seem to have hurt Duchene - or he’s injured. If he’s injured WTF is he playing?? I’ve gotta believe he got hurt in November/December and carrying on is aggravating the injury.

The only reason he hasn’t been put on IR is probably because if he sits it looks like we’ve tanked the season which looks bad for ticket sales esp. when Snow and Co. won’t pony up for a scorer to take his place.

Now that his chances for the Calder are pretty much toast, if he still struggles after the Olympic break I bet he misses at least the last 10 games of the season due to a “surprise” injury long after the Isles’ chances for the playoffs are done.

  387. 387 JPinVA

There have been a few mentions of “ex-Isle”ing Bergy throughout this thread. I don’t get it. Because he doesn’t score? A few poorly timed obstruction penalties?
Bergy is EXACTLY what this team needs. He’s not a top 6 guy, but he is what they need in their bottom six to succeed.
When the Isles fill their top spots a third (or fourth) line of Bergy-Frans-Martin(?) should give them 9-14 MINS of pressure… maybe not a flood of goals… but a line like that will add secondary scoring and wear an opposing team out.

  388. 388 Jersey Steve

    Some thoughts:

Islanders special teams are atrocious. The PP is just sad. All perimeter shots from bad angles and not enough traffic in front.

No offensive flow at all. This team needs more skill and speed in the line-up and Gordon needs to utilize his players better.

The team has no depth and cannot overcome injuries to key players.

The team, particularly the defense, needs to get more physical.

And Big Lou should be arrested for theft. That can’t possibly have been the best offer for Kovie. I’m seriously jealous.

Lastly, after all the excitement, its really disappointing watching the team crumble before our eyes now. Its time for Snow to start weeding out the weak links so this team can take another step forward.

  389. 389 JohnnyC.

    Chris,
I thinks Snow screwed up by waiving Witt. Granted they say he was shopped around and there were no takers they should have played him. You have the Olympics coming up & the official dedline is March 3rd. Who knows what injuries can pop up on our team or any other team. Why couldn’t we swap him for Ryder. Salary is equal. Or if not maybe Witt would have played somewhat better and you could have pulled a Guerin type trade or taken on someone. Now we will get nothing for him or may loose him on re-entry. What will we do if Sutton goes down

  390. 390 islesfan999

I have been saying this for weeks. Trade all the ufa’s. Trade sutton for at least a #2 and good prospect. Biron #3. Park #4. Sim maybe a 5. Trade Jackman or resign him. Hunter needs to be traded also. If we do all these trades we will be much better in 2 years.

  391. 391 Islander86

What moves do you expect from Garth Snow ?
He is not (even renotely) a Big Lou.
The only think he can do by any moves is to screw up this team even more.

  392. 392 RHL Vin

CB….Not saying I would make this trade but would we have gotten Kovalchuk if we offered a healthy Jack Hillen, Moulson, one of either Petrov/Hamonic/DeHaan and a 1st rounder?

  393. 393 NYICHAMP39

    RHL - No

If there were any talks at all between the Isles and Atlanta it is almost a a definite that they would have wanted Okposo as part of the deal. As you know, that is a deal breaker for us as he is an “untouchable.”

  394. 394 Just Sayin

I see alot of fans overvalue our players. Don’t get me wrong, some of the vets can help out certain teams down the stretch, but I think many of the GMs would roll their eyes at some of these offers. I know if I was the other GM, I’d turn down alot of these proposed trades in a heartbeat.

  396. 396 RHL Vin

393 NYICHAMP39 - Im sure Atlanta wanted Zajac as well and NJ didnt budge. Not saying we should have tried to get Kovalchuk but i think we had a shot without giving up Okposo or Tavares.

  397. 397 JPinVA

Why would the Islanders give up ANYTHING for Kovi? Bailey? Are you nuts? Hillen? I’d have hunted Snow down and melted him.
We are not a 40 goal scorer away from the cup, or probably even a series win.
I’d have given up the number one for him last year if he came with a long term extension. This year… NO WAY.
This team will improve in July… not in February. We just need to let experience play its part.

  398. 398 Pat

This team really needs to get tougher next year. It looks like the heart has been taken out of them. My wish list so far for next year. Sign Raffi Tores, Thorton and Eric Nystrom and it will not be so easy to beat the crap out of us.

  399. 399 Helene

Gee - did I miss something when we were winning? Don’t remember all these boo-hoos then. We are rebuilding. We have young players. We have a salary cap. And has anyone besides me notice that since DP is back, our win column has decreased. I know they are all professionals but it looks like plain old me sees a lack of confidence in Roly. Brought on by the insertion of DP. I would have never played DP a couple of weeks ago after a tremendous win by Roly. That could undermine anyone’s confidence! Just look back and think about it. So I’ll just keep going to the games, agonizing over losses, cheering for goals. PS - there was a stretch when our PK unit hadn’t allowed a goal in several periods. Ah, how quickly the good is forgotten and only the bad remains.

  400. 400 RHL Vin

I didnt say we should have given anything up for Kovy….I was just asking if a deal like that would have netted us Kovy. I agree, stay the course and maybe give a shot at signing Kovy in the summer but not at the 11 mill a season he wants.

  401. 401 Marty

Look at the brightside…We are in the process of rebuilding, we have the 4th worst record in hockey, and are sitting on a much needed lottery pick. We didn’t give up our much needed prospects for 3 months of Kovalchuk, which wouldn’t have resulted in a serious cup run. If Kovalchuk was the difference between winning the cup or not winning the cup, you make that trade. There is a reason Atlanta has 1 playoff appearance in 8 seasons..Kovalchuk can’t do it on his own. I have no problem waiting out the season and trying to sign him as a free agent, but you don’t give up players for him….

  402. 402 GE of GN

350 - isles3113 is right on the money about Streit on the PP. It’s way too predictable and the opposing team’s PK is zeroing in on Streit. I remember Gordon yelling at one of the assistants about how SLOW the puck movement was thru the neutral zone during the PP.

  403. 403 Marty

Helene (number 399)…If DP coming back has resulted in our losing ways lately, it is the best thing he has ever done for our franchise. I would rather have a top 3 pick in the draft than compete for the 8th seed with an invitation to get swept by the Capitals in the first round of the playoffs. The prospect helps our team more in the long run than 4 games of playoff experience will. It could be worst, at least the Islanders aren’t the Mets.

  404. 404 Joe G.

The only way Kovalchuk would ever consider signing here would be if Wang blew him away with a 11 million dollar a year offer.

  405. 405 IslesinOside

I still can’t believe people are suggesting moving Roli.Move him for what?? for who?? Move him and we have NO Netminder at all! He IS the only reason why we were were winning at all! I mean come on…we were certainly not winning because all of the 40 goal…sorry I meant 30 Goal…sorry I meant 20 Goal scorers. Move Roli for anything other than another Caliber goalie and we might as well play with an empty net. I like DP but no way in his condition is gonna keep the puck out of the net especially with our D in front of him. Biron….come on seriously? There is a reason why nobody else wanted to pick him up…and he is not 40 years old! Keep Roli for his next contract year and lets see what Snow does about the Goalie situation barring a DP miracle.

  406. 406 Ricky T

The 4th pick in the draft gives us Gudbranson or Kabonov. Both are big and fast. Gudbranson is exactly what the Isles need. A big, fast physical d-man. This losing streak is looking better and better.

  407. 407 purify

kovy turned down 100+ mill extension to stay in atlanta. he wanted out and got it. mark my words the devils dont spend big money and he will be a free agent come july 1 st.this gives snow a chance to make a play for him over the summer if he wishes. we have to many holes and 10 million a year can fill those wholes. biggest issues are our special teams. i like gordon but seriously how does our top scorer not get substantial pp time. why does bruno get pk time he is to soft. in the new nhl special teams makes u a contender or a pretender. the isles being in the bottom of both we are pretenders. btw put moulson, jt, and ko back together. let the future jell together. any point kovy went for nothing what do u really expect to get for our tradable players come on. witt was shopped and got nothin, he only moves if he gets put on reentry waivers. snow u owe the man that much to burry him in the minors is a sin regardless of his play of late dont be that guy. snow- instead of being our back up and not playing much being a seasoned vet how would u feel if u were sent down. you gave hime the extension and the money so do the right thing!!!!!!

    R.I.P. 2009-2010 New York Islanders

  409. 409 Hollywood

I don’t believe anyone is truly jumping ship. This team needs to be reevaluated. The core players(top 6 fwds) are Okposo, Baily and Tavares. We don’t have true top six fwds. This next group must be looked at with a magnifying glass. (Tambellini, Schremp, Hunter and Moulson)
The way I see it Neilson and Begenheim are 2/3 of the 3rd line.

Park, Weight, Jackman and Sim should be gone!

The fourth line should be Comeau, T. Smith and the Wrecker.

  410. 410 JT

CB: Gordon’s “look down the hall” comment sounds eerily similar to Bill Stewart’s comment that you described the other day. Not exactly a way to show Scott has confidence in his young team. I’m disappointed in him.

  411. 411 Brian G

The wrecker should never be in the NHL except for Ranger and Flyer games - he still needs to learn how to play hockey…but he is no Mitch Fritz (where is he bouncing at bar somewhere)

This team needs some new faces-I’m sorry but the Islanders Strategy of Signing over the hill veterans is not working anymore…they should not do that anymore…cut to the next scene, they Sign Keith Tkachuk on July 1st

CB - any word on any Sutton contract extention talks or is he halfway out the door?

  412. 412 Jerky

CB, I have to believe that the primary cause for the Isles decline at this stage of the season is due to being physically manhandled all season. After 57 games of being hammered, the players are banged up and just don’t have the strength they had at the beginning of the season.

  413. 413 BJ

FYI: The Leafs got REAL tough and signed a big time goal scorer in the offseason, and theyve had a stellar year….

  414. 414 pocketski

This team is rudderless. Wait! lets come in last in the east
so we can continue buliding in the draft for the umteenth year. It’s south from here boys.
    Lets go devils!

  415. 415 Jimbo

The isles show 6 weeks of inspiration and everyone gets on board…now everyone’s got nothing but trash to talk. This team is young and needs to develop. Trading away a pick would be so counterproductive at this point. Let the young talent develop and if the time is right…I mean truly right, then look for the veteran. Trading away a piece of the nucleus at this point would probably accomplish nothing…and past history has shown that it won’t work anyway. Everyone wants a cup NOW and its just not going to happen. The team needs a few more years of experience and a few more pieces to the puzzle to fall into place. Any number of the current young crew could develop into one of those pieces a little ways down the road…and throwing them away for a 1 or 2 year deal with a veteran is not the way to building a consistent contender.

  416. 416 AngryPete

The problem with this REBUILD, and the reason for the avid fan’s ire and impatience is the fact that it’s been TOO LONG in the making …. whether it be one regime or another. It’s completely understood on our part. I understand what the Isles are trying to do …. but I’m allowed to be disgruntled after a decade of ‘rebuild-incompetence’.

  417. 417 eric

#416 the Islanders did not rebuild during the early part of the decade. Signing yashin to 10 years 190 mill and trading for peca and Aucoin is not a rebuild. They had no young players on that team. They did try to rebuild from 95-00 but Milbury messed that up.
