ISLANDERS 4 PREDATORS 3 (shootout)
Post-game interactive Plus/Minus
CB’s weekly NHL column on FanHouse
9:50 pm, NVMC: While I’m on assignment, feel free to join the postgame Plus/Minus.
Plus: Matt Martin, Matt Martin, Matt Martin. A Country’s crush begins.
Plus: One minute into a putrid first period power play, Scott Gordon sends Matt Martin over the boards. The kid making his NHL debut bullies his way to the net, creates space for his linemates and gets a scoring chance of his own. In that first period, it was not an exaggeration to call the sequence glorious.
Plus: From what he showed on the 5-on-4 and 5-on-3, the only thing wrong about Martin’s recall was it wasn’t made earlier.
Miuns: It’s a statement on the rest of the roster when Martin can go overnight from first-year AHL prospect to irreplaceable first-unit power play Islander and an obvious choice to send out there with the goalie pulled in the final minute.
Plus: Overtimes between East and West team rule.
Plus: Western goalies still do not know Frans Nielsen’s shootout move.
Plus: Good for Martin Biron.
Plus: John Tavares looked like a goal scorer in the SO.
Plus: Pekka Rinne was outstanding, which is a compliment to the Islanders.
Plus: Before scoring his goal off his nice read from Rob Schremp to make it 1-0, Freddy Meyer did everything a defenseman could on that shift. Check the DVR.
Plus: When Meyer scored, it was the first time the Islanders scored the game’s opening goal in ten games.
Plus: The MSG cameras showing what we could see easily from the press box – the smoke coming out of Andy Sutton’s ears after the goal to put the Predators up 2-1.
Minus: Jon Sim’s inability to get the puck in deep is a major factor in the 2-1 goal for Nashville.
Minus: A too-many-men penalty and some shaky line changes.
Plus: A few of the youngsters played well – Andrew MacDonald, Jesse Joensuu, Martin, Rob Schremp. You’re welcome to add your picks.
Plus: Nashville forward Joel Ward, the Toronto native who played with friends on several title-winning roller hockey teams out of Hot Skates in Lynbrook just five years ago, is now an everyday NHLer. Joel didn’t forget his buddies, as a few teammates were at the game tonight and visited with him after outside the Predators’ locker room.
Comments on the game.

FIIIINNNAALLLLYYYY!!!!!
-
Gotta love us in the shootouts. Can’t wait to watch the highlights. I only heard part of the game on the radio. Sounded like Matt Martin was the Second Coming! A win’s a win at this point.
-
I disagree with the JT pick too…where’s the Streit love? Goal and Assist…and the goal was a pretty one, cooler than the ice he was standing on receives a pass, cradles it, and labels it for the top corner
-
Martin stays up till the Break….so does Jesse…..The team was faster tonite with Sim sitting and Weight( which I like)
-
…..exhale. 2 points.
-
Great, the one game I miss…
-
Now if only Gordon would get his act together with the lines. Some of his combinations are just odd.
And when Bailey comes back I say sit Park and Sim and put in Bailey and Tamby. We still need goals and Joensuu and Martin bring more to the table than Park and Sim these days.
-
Thank God! Martin and Joensuu sparked some energy…now let’s see a forward score a goal please?!?
-
I guess I won’t be seeing Matt Martin when Bridgeport comes to Syracuse in March.
-
..I only caught pieces of the game, its funny that i was looking to see if Martin would add anything to the team (besides scoring)
.. I think his presence and effort and energy/vibe will hepl the team alot!! They didnt sleepwalk as much tonite, it looked like a different type energy, good 4 them and Streit is becoming a force on D-fense
.. Keep it up and we need even more “energy/effort’ guys, the more the better!!!! – lets go Isles
-
Does it make me gay if I openly admit my love for Matt Martin? This kids got game!
-
Jersey Steve,
Agree with you 100%. And its just sad when a team can insert Jeff Tambellini and Josh Bailey into a lineup and actually get BIGGER.
Minus: Sim has gone from marginally effective to absolutely useless over the past month
Minus: Park, although he may have great leadership like Weight, has lost his touch on the ice.
Plus: Biron gets 3 goals to help him out
Plus: A come from behind effort from a team who really needed a win emotionally (ping pong just doesnt do it for most hockey teams)
-
I hope Martin is with us till the end of the season. He’s the only one we have who can screen the goalie. Great job Matt!
-
I knew the kids would create a spark, keep it up! Martin Driving to the net is a thing of beauty, that has been missing all season. He will be a fan favorite real soon!
-
+++ M. Martin, he stays
- Sim for not pushing the puck deep
++ Tavaras had good game
- Bergy bad penalty
+ KO, MacD, Schremp -
Actually Ed if it isnt for Neilsens screen at the end of the game, Streits goal most likely doesnt go in. Great game, they plaed hard, they didnt give up, they won! So im not going to go into any negatives tonight (ahem forwards over 30)
-
Martin!!!! Let the man-crushes begin!
-
PLUS: A win! Yes! YESSSS! Finally!
PLUS: Matt Martin! Whooo!
MINUS: John Tavares as first star of the game? I can think of a number of Isles who deserved it more- Freddy (G) Streit (G,A), Biron (W), Gervais (G), Martin (2A), any of them would have been more appropriate. I guess the Isles are SO EAGER for JT to be the big star of this team that they make it so even when theres little reason to.
PLUS: Did I mention Matt Martin lol? -
Minus: Frans Neilsen with 20 minutes TOI, Tavares with 17, Schremp with 16. Andrew Macdonald with 28.5 minutes. Apparently he’s Nik Lidstrom now. Streit can do more than 21 minutes, Kohn is worth more than 11.
A good game, but Gordon still has to make some changes.
-
I knew i’ve played against JOEL before!
-
I think i saw Scott Gordon smile
-
18 miket: LOL- I saw it, too! It was when the ref was over there, he was grinning about something and I was like whaaaa? You dont see that too often behind the bench lol!
-
I don’t think Martin’s skating is that bad. It’s not the prettiest stride, but I was expecting a lot worse.
I don’t get how other goalies don’t know Neilsen’s move. He does it every time and I’m pretty sure everyone in the building and watching at home knew what was going to happen. All they have to do is spend 5 minutes on You Tube.
-
Finally! Seems like the Isles last win was shortly after my last cocktail at Solomon Grundy’s in RVC. Rock on Isles, Rock on!!!
-
Shinkdew- The west coast goalies are too busy worrying about the 100 other people they might see in a shootout from their own division. And just because you expect a move, doesn’t mean you can commit to it. He’s awfully good at freezing the goalie.
-
still not intensity on the power bplay, alot of lollygagging around. I would like to see some inte sity from ONE of our players, watching the caps/pens game sunday afternoon when ovie got on the ive you could feel the energy. Im looking for the one who can bring that to the isles. Idea: lets put Kate Murray in net, between her head and ass the opposition would never get a puck behind he line. Hate me if you want, just a thought
-
And to think I was gonna leave with a minute and a half to go! Shame on me!!!
-
Three D men score!
-
MATT MARTIN! I said so many times to call this kid up, he rules!
-
Wow, The “GLORIOUS ONE” (<—Credit CB) Matt Martin. Good 1st game for the kid. Hopefully we can put a string together, one way or the other.
-
No 12 Um..Yes It does lol.
-
Didn’t see a second of this game. Could Mr. Martin been as good as this group says……..?…….
-
Glad biron got the win, he is alot better then his record shows, let him be the starter till the break, put rollo back between the pipes afer and send dp to ahl for the rest of the seasons
-
Minus: Taveras should be embarrased being chosen over Striet or Meyer for 1st Star of the game.
MINUS: Isles keep missing the net!
BIG PlUS: Matt Martin standing up for JT after he was cross checked from behind. Loved seeing that after not seeing that all season.
Plus:Schremp feels like our consolation prize for all the stars Millbury let go for bags of hockey picks.
Plus:Freddie Meyer had a great game and he continued his great play from last game. Take that Meyer haters!
Even: KO wasn’t his beast like self, IMHO.
PLUS: Biron gets the win, good for him.
BIG PLUS: the Islanders won!
-
Plus – Biron finally gets a win, not sure why he never got up on goal 1 and why he guessed on shooter 3 in the shootout, but I am happy for the guy
Plus – Tavares looked better made a few moves with the puck..it was nice to see
Plus – First goal I can remember in ages where we scored with the goalie pulled
Plus – The snow held off so I could get back to Westchester
-
Plus: matt martin, freddy meyer and a host of others
minus: the first period
minus: Isles goaltender gets outplayed again until the shootout
plus: good effort the final 10 minutes trying to tie it
plus: shootouts
plus: another game tomorrow
plus: going to bed
-
…there apparently has been a roster spot lost thanks to Martin. I only wish it was Sim’s
-
+ a half decent crowd for a team on a 7 game losing streak
+ 2 power play goals
+ a win for marty
+ Islanders Win!
-
Maybe now that Isles Manegment will “get it” and go get two more Martins…its not like these kinda guys are making the big bucks. Start dumping the useless players in trades..can you buy out during a season or only in the offseason? (Weight/simm/park/bergie/tamb)
-
Holy Matt Martin Batman!!! A player with size that can play hockey, hit and goes to the net. Welcome to the Islanders Matty!!!
-
Matt Martin, its almost Valentine’s day, and I want to profess my undying love for you. Please become the power forward that we’ve been lacking since Clark Gillies got traded…..Thank you
-
My biggest + was seeing Sutton get mad. Again, one of the few (maybe only) Islander that shows his emotion and plays with it consistently. I repeat – Don’t trade Sutton!
+ Shremp…still like this kid, hope he improves.
+ MacDonald – thought he had an excellent game and was more aggressive on offense.
+ great goal Streit! Its been a while since I’ve seen one of those clutch goals.
+ FMIV – awesome game. As bad as they’ve been lately I think Freddy’s play has been strong.
+ Matt Martin – great to see someone besides Moulson be a factor in front. Not just do what Sim does but be an actual factor.
I hope he shakes the nerves and plays with the grit we’re waiting for. He showed some tonight but I know there’s more.
Definitely can improve skating and I really hope he does, he will be a nice addition to this team, I feel it. -
Whats wrong with Okposo? The past 3-4 games he just has not been himself. Is it because Bailey is out? Maybe part of it, but he was playing well even when Bailey was not and I feel hes kind of like a guy that runs the line. I hope hes not hurt and gets his game back and you see him every shift like you used to.
-
maybe the 1st star for Tavares was trying to give him a confidence boost. he’s only got 2 goals in the last 28 games. any way you slice it that’s pretty awful.
-
+The Fantastic IVth laughs at the haters.
-
+ Robbie Schremp – Just a great game in the offensive zone and great hustle. I remember watching him dumping the puck past afew players and then beating everyone to it.
+ Matt Martin- no explanation needed.
- Park – Just makes careless plays. I wish Gordon would bench him just to send a message.
+ Gordon taking a timeout
Neutral- Bergenheim – Good effort but a careless penalty leads to the Preds 3rd goal
Overall it was a great game to go to and it was an effort we haven’t seen in a long while
-
Plus… Streit on top of his game (gotta love the goal with 11 ticks left on the clock – the Coliseum roared)
Minus… Trent Hunter standing at the blue line and not moving for probably more than a minute during the Islanders second power play – get to work pal!
Plus…Been to 20+ games and no one has once called me out for having the same haircut (or lack thereof) as Matt Moulson and wearing his #26 jersey – tonight I was called out for it twice – thanks!
Minus…Too many refs on the ice!
-
Good for the Isles! Interesting that Dwayne was scratched….could Garth be dangling him after all?
-
i worked at Hot Skates for 3 years as a Rink Guard. but i have yet to crack an NHL line up. =(
-
Matt Martin is a real big kid. He also looks like he belongs. He had 2 primary assists where he made excellent plays to set up those goals. He also loves to use his size in front of the net and to hit anyone near him.
I keep getting the feeling that one of these games Tavares is going to breakout with a 3 or 4 goal performance.
-
Roloson would bring back more in a trade……..
-
Plus: Andy MacDonald was terrific tonight.
Plus: Welcome Matt Martin
Even: If this game occurred three weeks ago, everyone here would be talking about how good we are.
Even: If Streit doesn’t score with 11 seconds, everyone here would be saying this team is the most miserable ever on skates.
Plus: I don’t know how this looked on TV, but in the last period, you really saw desperation in the Islanders play. Every player gave everything on every shift.
Plus: Moulson played with desperation the entire game.
Minus: On a 5 on 3 for more than 1:30, the first option is not a 40 foot blast. Even though they scored, for a minute, their puck movement around the perimeter was atrocious.
BIG MINUS: While short-handed and roughly 15-20 seconds left in a penalty, Park plays around with the puck at the Preds blueline instead of getting it deep and turns the puck over–leading directly to Bergie’s penalty and Nashville’s go-ahead PP goal. If Tamby did something like that, he’d sit for a month.
Plus: Winning is good.
-
Weight , thanks for the memories . Stick a fork in him , Sim see you later pal. Sutton earned a contract with his emotion tonight, you need guys like him and he can still put the body on people. If this is a rebuild than lets see what the rest of these kids have, not winning cup this year. Trade any goalie that brings something decent back. They have to have a trade that has been in place prior to the season starting or Garth really would not have signed two goalies knowing he would have 3 goalies in January…
-
Plus: Isles win in OT!
Minus: leaving game with 6 minutes left to beat the traffic. -
Plus: Finding a way to tie the game in the last minute. That never gets old.
Plus: Matt Martin. Even if it was just a one-off great performance, what a shot in the arm he was tonight.
Plus: John Tavares playing well tonight, and really the past 4-5 games.
Minus: That said, I think we can all agree that there were five other players who deserved “first star” more than Tavares despite the fact he delivered in the shootout.
Minus: At times Biron looked shaky in the game and OT. (Rust, I know. But still.)
Plus: Biron looked great in the SO.
Big plus: Big emotion from Sutton.
Plus: This broadcast containted no close up of JT aggressively picking his nose, causing Billy to lose his ability to talk for 2 or 3 minutes afterward.
Minus: Not to copy other people’s points, but that too many men call – wow, what a total brain fart.
Plus: Schremp made some great plays tonight.
Plus: Winning!
-
+ The black and blue M&M (Moulson would be the Gold M&M) has an awesome debut. This is gonna be a core guy if they set the right path for him. I think they will.
- Sim probably jabbing his way into 5MIN of TOI after his blunder. I can’t fathom that flash sat him for the mistake alone.
+ Jesse Joensmooth… a lot of attention for Martin, but Jesse had a nice game as well. -
- Marty did not do anything for his value tonight… hopefully there is a meritocracy and he gets another chance in the back to backs. But if we were shooting hoops he’d get the ball back.
+ Fred had a great game.
- Matt’s parents couldn’t make his debut.
- Who gives out the stars… John Tavares… I think he even said “WTF?”
+ ONE IN A ROW…WAHOOOOOO!!! -
Beautiful. Now get together a string of wins (or at least OTLs) and get into a playoff spot. 5 points out of 8th after tonight’s game.
-
I absolutely loved how Matt Martin played. They way he forechecked is very similar to Okposo. While he doesn’t have as much talent as Okposo, he plays with the same drive and edge that would make him a great depth guy for the future.
-
As usual, dead on CB.
Meyer played a splendid 20 mins. Martin was great but I fear he only got 14 mins was thanks to 6 pps.
Sim was bad on that turnover that led to wards goal. But Nielsen did the same thing one the first goal. Just dump it in if you have to.
-
i was sitting in 205, 3 rows up right on the blueline where the isles shot twice, where streit teed one up with 11 seconds. matt martin’s sauce over a nashville stick to him for the game tying goal could not have been more perfect. watch the replay, absolute perfect pass. i hope this kid stays for awhile.
-
wow im surprised no 1 caught the kiss that schremp gave gervais wen he scored he kissed him right on his head talk about desperation. great game was pretty sure they were down and out good looks by martin and streit for the goal and thank god streit finally hit the ner i guess if at first u dnt suceed try try try again anyway great performance by the majority of the islanders
-
So we have some pretty good youngsters in Tavares, Schremp, Martin, Joensuu, MacD, Bailey, KO..and De Haan, Hamonic and Donovan coming. Wish we could get rid of Weight, Park Sim and Tamby and get some decent veterans in return.
-
55 what traffic? there were barely 10,000 ppl there no one to really beat out of the place
-
“Minus: It’s a statement on the rest of the roster when Martin can go overnight from first-year AHL prospect to irreplaceable first-unit power play Islander and an obvious choice to send out there with the goalie pulled in the final minute.”
BINGO! Line of the night.
-
……..There’s NEVER traffic for a weeknight game unless they play NYR. Looked like 8,000 there last night. Time to go to BROOKLYN/QUEENS.
-
I’m not sure if the Islanders gut-checked
their way to a victory or if the Predators
kicked one away with Erat getting a boarding penalty with 46 seconds left. Probably a little bit of both.Minus: the referee’s mike is not very good for giving clear, understand audio when he explains a call. Looks like Jim the Engineer from the Mike Francesa show strikes again.
How legitimate was the call overturning the Predators goal? Certainly the crowd thought it was kicked in and 8,000 Islanders fans would not lie.
Go get them tonight. I probably won’t make Saturday’s game but make Barry Melrose happy and beat the Lightning.
-
+ Martin
- Still no Enforcer
- Jaffe
+ All the other young isles
- Except Gervais -
Minus – Isles did not deserve to win the game last night.
Plus – After playing poorly the Isles found a way to win the game last night.
-
Minus-Goal Song. Identical to the Flyers.
Plus- Fred Meyer III. There. I said it.
Go Isles! -
Plus- MAJOR Props to all the coaches and trainers in Bridgport. It seems like everytime we call a player up they are ready to play. But not only are they ready to play but they are ready to contribute. They have all looked good.
Plus- I really like what Matt Martin brought to the table tonight. A big body. Good screens. Drew a penalty. 2 assists in his first NHL game. -
plus: Isles win and show some good charakter.
plus: Matt Martin and the other young Isles.
plus:Preds Defender Alexander Sulzer was solide. i say this because he is from my small Hockeytown Kaufbeuren where i live and his mom and dad living in my neighberhood.
is this a minus? we playing in Pittsburgh tonight.. -
48 Mike N: Hey, Ive seen you at NVMC and my friends and I have thought it lol. Im always happy to see guys Moulsoning out with the hair, Martins got the right idea too lol. Now we need some of the other guys to make up for Nate and Brendan.
-
+ Islanders comeback win
- Another Islander SO win
+ D-Men scored 3 goals
+ Streit, Meyer, Sutton and McDonald. Strong play by all
+ Freddy Meyer is the most physical Islander.
- Taveras looks weak. His passes are soft, he falls all the time, and never shoots outside of 6 ft of the net.
- KO looks tired, hopefully the Olympic break will help. Now I am glad he is not going to Vancouver.
+ Shremp, he is the best PP player for the Isles. Should be on the 1st unit. (Would like to seem him KO and Jb play on same line) -
Um Freddy Meyer way to pick it up. Anyone notice that he has been one of the best players in the last couple of games?
-
watching martin has me wishing he’d been here after the third or fourth loss in a row. a guy like him can change the whole dynamic even if he doesn’t score (which i bet he will). he just looks very imposing. and good signs from JT. nevermind if he had no points, he clearly was more assertive and active with the puck. he was still tentative a couple of times and even spazzed out once on a power play set up, but that all looks like a confidence thing which is getting better now. i won’t be surprised if johnny is a different player after the break.
and that may have been the best game freddy meyer ever played. -
Plus – The positivity a win generates on this board.
-
Plus: the defense
Plus: Martin sticking up for JT after he got cross checked.
-
martin was a nice catalyst. Joenssu still needs time to develop.
Huge plus – Isles coming back and winning a game down 3-2.
Meyer was great. Mcdonald is the man.
I agree, Tavares is playing well last 5 games. its matter of time before he catches fire. -
Minus: the Isles prolly embarrassed JT for being 1st star
-
+ not going to bed miserable after another loss that could have been a “W”.
+ FMIV has played well since back in the line-up
+Schremp making the most of his opportunity and playing with some speed and willing to get into the corners and play D.
- missing the freakin net with so many shots.
- not getting the puck in deep.
- no HD for Center Ice
+ Matt Martin parking his large frame right in front of the net and not being moved. -
Plus- Finally a little size
Minus – Still need to get rid of Sim, Park
Trade Sutton, Hunter, Park, Sim, Biron at the deadline
-
Aside from the grit and physical presence, Matt Martin flashing some skilz! 2 assists… and from what I saw, his wrist shot looks pretty decent!
-
So when exactly is Martin’s HOF induction?
Seriously, it’s been a while (Andy Mac?) since we’ve seen some new guys with UPSIDE!
As Bill Parcells likes to say, “It is what it is”, and that’s where we stand with the careers of Sim, Park, Weight (the obvious), Hunter, Jackman (the overlooked) and Tambellini (the neglected). Eliminate or reduce their ice and give it guys who might actually improve!
Despite all the optimism, we are not a playoff team, but a rebuilding one. If it can be done without a negative financial effect, bring up a few other forwards (Smith, Sean Benti…) for a cup of coffee. What would it hurt?
As for Sutton…my 1st wish is to extend him. If not move him now, which is the highest value point of his career. To let him walk away in the summer for nothing would be worst move of the Snow era.
Same for Roli…we’re not contending for a Cup while he’s under contract, so if he can fetch more than Biron, move him while his value is high. Extend Biron and buy another year or two for the Big Finn.
-
It kind of funny… I don’t get to watch a whole lot of games, and I’m generally OK with that, but last night all I wanted to do was sit down, have a beer and watch this game. Unfortunetly, I couldn’t and it sounds like a missed a game that had a little bit of everything.
-
I am so psyched about Martin. And just think he hasn’t even gotten into a fight, after protecting a teammate(which he is most known for) and the Isles desperately need that. Keep that Kid line together w/ Hunter & let JJ get his minutes. Everyone agrees that Matt Martin(2008 5th rd pick) will be on the team next yr, pls tell me why (2008 2nd rd) Travis Hamonic wouldn’t be on Opening Night Roster? Sure Martin played a handful of AHL Games, but Hamonic dominated at the WJC & is considered the Best DMan in the WHL. I think that compensates. MacDonald 28:35 Sutton 24:50 Streit 21:45 Gervais 20:05 Meyer 19:44 Kohn 11:53. WHY ARE STREIT & GERVAIS PLAYING TOGETHER? Kohn & Meyer(7 Hits) s/b getting more min than Gervais. Gervais stinks! Amazing, 3 DMan Goals & the other 3 Dman all had 1 glorius scoring chance each. As much as I love Sutton, we Must trade him if we get a 1st rd’er back. His trade value will never be higher & we have Hamonic, Dehaan, Donavan,(maybe Blake Kessel) waiting in the wings. He is an injury prone 35 yr old dman having a career yr, not a player you build around.
-
martin seems to be a step in the right direction, size and enough skills for the coach to put him in front on the PP.as far as sticking up for JT as some here pointed out,the whole team should attack like a pack of wolves when someone messes with our future stars,,thats what fans want to see,,and a boogard or a godard in the lineup too…
-
RobC – Totally agree. This is at least the 2nd time they’ve given JT the first star when he didn’t deserve it. I understand that it’s all part of the marketing effort but it is really embarrassing. Hopefully he starts earning the hype soon enough.
-
Nice win isles – wish it was in regulation
walked out of the rink after the second period to the bar downstairs and watched the third on a screen
they were frustrating to watch for two periods – pp needs help badly , we look lost , all goals came from dmen tonite
where has our offense gone to -dammit
to all the kids AMAC, JJ , MATT MARTIN , KOHN , BLAKE C , KO , JT ,MM ETCC..
HANG IN THERE GUYS -the next 23 games doesnt get any better
and isles nation its great to see us picking on our 19 year old first year in the nhl possible future star – just love the greatfan support for JT
LATER -
+ Martin playing like Trent Hunter SHOULD play
- stupid plays at attacking blue line all season long create turnovers and odd man rushes. (Tavares, Streit and sometimes KO are the main culprits)
-
-The Islanders didn’t deserve to win that game. Most of the game was played with 0 passion, except for Matt Martin.
+Matt Martin, although it’s just one game.
-Tavares’s no look passes to the other team.
-KO shying away from checking in the corners.
-Power play and line changes, the coaching staff needs to reevaluate itself.
-Fred IV, nice goal and hits but gave up the puck in his own end at least twice with bad passes.
+Sutton smashing the goal net with his stick.
+Rob Shremp, he can stick handle behind him as well as he does with the puck in front of him. -
Plus : Martin fit right in and played 14:48 min
Plus: Joensuu is a BIG kid who plays like a Monster
Plus: Meyer hit the net with a scorcher
Minus: Gervais scored improving his +/-
Minus: Biron gets his first win in 2 months and doesn’t get #1 star
Minus: Tambs was scratched so Park and Sim could play
Minus: We still jhave 20+ ore games to screw up our top five draft pick
-
Minus: Still can’t win games in regulation and we got two points when we needed 1 or 0 to help secure a lottery pick
-
Don’t know if anyone else mentioned it, but…
Minus – Nashville announcers saying they weren’t sure if the kicked in goal would be disallowed. Check out the highlights on NHL.com. Unbelievable homerism. -
Loved Matt *ahem* “Jethro” *ahem* Martin last night. Great game.
I hope we keep him up until the olympics, but I would like him to go back to BPort and develop his scoring/passing. He’s got all the assets to be a great bruiser but still raw. No need to rush him and burn him out.
-
Minus – Sim and Park
Minus – Gordon for playing Sim and Park.
Plus – Our newest call-ups especially Martin.
Minus – The line combinations
Plus – Finally some hustle again
Plus – A goal call goes our way
Plus – JT scores the winner
Plus – Meyer was a standout player
Plus – Sutton smashing the goalpost (although a big minus for the breakaway)
Minus – Another too-many-men penalty.
Plus – A win for Biron (I’m in the minority who’d rather keep him over Roloson)
Minus – Our goal song. Its silly to share it with a division rival. We should have one no other team has.
Minus – The Lighthouse weight hanging around this team’s neck.
Plus – Another game tonight weather permitting.
-
I forgot….
Plus – Robbie Schremp!
Minus – KO was strangely invisible.
-
Did Howie or the Jaff mention. Joel Ward playing hockey right here on Long Island? If not, that’s a big minus. We need to hype Long Island hockey as much as possible…also, do the three stars actully mean anything? To me it’s an obvious tactic to build the confidence of our 19 year old superstar in waiting, nothing else. No biggie
-
i have only one thing to say.MARTIN…MARTIN…MARTIN keep shakin the rival.
-
68- the no goal call was very legit. It was tough to call from looking at the front of the player, but when everyone saw the side view it was very obvious. It wasnt even like it was a little foot nudge, it was like he was striking a soccer ball.
Also I think props have to go to the Isles PP. A couple of times it looked bad but overall it seemed like there was a big improvement in puck movement.
-
Plus – Freddy Meyer was hitting last night, looked comfortable with the puck.
Minus – I sometimes wonder if we all watch the same game. For the vast majority, the Islanders looked completely listless. NOT hustling to pucks, turning the puck over several times in unforced errors, not in sync on their passes or changes (breakaway goal and too many men penalty)
Plus – We still got a win because they poured it on in the final two minutes. Good for Biron as he played well.
-
Extend Sutton. Get Donavan in october. D should look like this: Donavan, Hillen, Sutton, Andy mac, Kohn. Not to shabby! And if Freddy keeps playing like he has in the last 3 games, it will be a nice problem to have.
-
Gotta love the fact that Frans Nielsen keeps going back to his move in the shootout, and it keeps working! Also, I bet a ranger fan friend who I was watching the game with that Nielsen would do that exact move and score. He had no idea, ha!

Tavares played really well and scored the winner. Stop getting down on him with all the “he does not deserve the first star, B.S. Without him we do not win that game. Period!

who runs the stars of the game over at the coliseum?? Biron wins his first game since nov. 4th and they give it to the one who scored in the skills competition??? jesus absolutely terrible. Biron was shaky but he was the story tonight after not getting a game since december, NOT tavares.
