Whadaya know? Looks like Martin Biron, the goalie thought to be out of the rotation, gets the start tonight against his close pal J.P. Dumont, Pekka Rinne and the Nashville Predators. Biron is coming off a two-game conditioning stint in Bridgeport, where he lost one game in overtime and won 6-4 in regulation, backed by a rare showing of goal support by his own team.

Scott Gordon said Biron has been “unbelievable, in terms of his attitude. He always comes to the rink with a smile. We’re fortunate to have him.” The coach said Biron has worked very hard and he’d like to to see him start a game. Should be tonight.

Asked if he was starting, Biron – who received the reps of a starter at the morning skate – said he would defer. “I’ll let Gordo tell you guys,” he said.

Biron is starting.

Captain Doug Weight will be one of the Islanders’ two healthy scratches, with youngsters Matt Martin and Jesse Joensuu playing. Gordon would not confirm that Jeff Tambellini was the other.

Hard to believe, when I think of Lighthouse meetings back when I was in my mid-30s, that on February 9, 2010 the project has been taken over by Kate Murray. The first official unveiling of plans were by Charles Wang and Tom Suozzi in 2004.

Incredible to think of all the years and all the millions of dollars wasted to get to this point. If the Town cuts Wang’s plan by more than 33% – and they will – it would be a major back-track for him to accept it. Remember “Paris has her Tower” and all the talk of a “destination” for Long Island. Murray’s consultants may craft a solid plan, but this isn’t going to be a destination.

Good read here (subscription needed) from Newsday‘s Joye Brown, who has always been a major proponent of Wang’s vision for the Coliseum site. Joye makes the point that, success or failure, the redevelopment of the property is now all Supervisor Murray’s. The author also notes how for years Murray said she didn’t want to have a say in the project, but now she has taken it over.

The Hempstead Town Board meets tonight to vote on Murray’s plan. Geez, I wonder if it will pass?

Islanders Country awaits a response from Charles Wang. Whatever happens, this will not be boring.

Matt Martin has been told his entire hockey hockey career that he wasn’t good enough. “Never played AAA hockey, made Sarnia on a tryout and then heard I wouldn’t stick,” Martin said. “Skating wasn’t good enough, skills weren’t there. It only fired me up.

“I don’t mind criticism,” Martin continued. “I respect most of it. It just inspires me to get better at whatever someone is critical of.”

The 6-2 wing will make his NHL debut tonight. Scott Gordon told him to “go out and play your game. We called you up for a reason.” Those reasons are obvious: Martin gets to the net, throws his body around and can fight. Maybe he’s not 100% ready for all that this week, but he knows it’s a good opportunity to showcase what he can do.”

“I know I’ll be back in Bridgeport during the Olympic break,” said Martin. “No matter what happens, I have to keep playing games. I think this is a good chance for me personally to see how far I’ve come and how much more I need to improve. It’s a great test. I’m fired up.”

I’ll be a guest on XM/Sirius NHL Home Ice tonight at 6:00 pm with Jim “Boomer” Gordon. Just two weeks ago, Boomer was salivating over his Islanders. Now he’ll probably ask me how many players the team could move before the trade deadline. I hope you’ll listen in.

Comments on tonight’s game and this post. Again – I beg of you, cherished reader – I am Tambellinied out. Thank you.

13 bids on dinner with Shremp so far … interesting

  2. avatar orngfan says:

kate murray is a terrible person.

  3. avatar Marty says:

Yes! We are closer to last in the conference than we are to the final playoff spot..keep losing.

  4. avatar Gutty34 says:

I said it yesterday and I will say it again today. Ratner tossing the isles into his speech about Brooklyn and Atlantic Yard was no off the cuff coincidence. Something else is brewing and discussions have taken place. I truly believe Wang wants to be in Nassau but has options and rather than talk about them chooses to sit back and see how this pans out. Many of you have brought up legitimate gripes for both sides – Wang and TOH. Everyone has missteps along the way but to me the final horrific blame goes to TOH. Yes this is 50% about real estate to Wang and 50% Isles. He is a businessman first, professional sports team owener 2nd. He does have the right to want to make money and using the isles to get more is not a crime. Its called good smart business. I have a product that people want and if you want to keep seeing it/using it blah blah than this is what it takes. Thats the american way. Those who bash him for it and say he doesnt care is wrong. This guy saved the Isles. Who would have kept them here this long losing that kind of dough – probably nobody. Spano? Gluckstein. Ha. I just dont know enough politically to understand how Murray now has stepped up to the plate. What has happened over the last 7+ years that she didnt. None of this makes sense to an unconnected citizen like myself. Where is the accountability??? Where is a paper calling her out and asking these questions. If we were 30K strong and active this would have changed the dynamics but a couple thousand people wont do it alone. Thats why TOH doent care and the vote proved it.

  5. avatar nystrom23 says:

Just some thoughts….I think Doug Weight should hand over the C to someone else on the team….Okposo should take it..hes shown that HE should be this teams leader

  6. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Starting Biron screams showcase but the guy deserves it. From everything I see and hear he truly is a great teammate and he’s so easy to root for. I thought trading Rolo would be a terrible move a short time ago but now it depends on what the Isles would get in return.

  7. avatar Hishutzi Skorz says:

Let’s hope they finish their dinner better than they finish their scoring chances and checks! :)

  8. avatar admin says:

post updated with thoughts from Matt Martin…CB

  9. avatar Chris says:

Yea Douggie is done…. Think he’s gonna pack it in!

  10. avatar John says:

Excited to see Martin tonight we need someone who will actually finish his checks and maybe well see a fight!

  11. avatar Ray says:

I hate Jon Sim! Sorry Chris I couldn’t he’ll it. Anyway, love the quotes fem Marty. I’ve followed him since his second year in juniors and the kid gives 100% every night. Hopefully he plays his game and doesn’t try to hard to impress. That just leads to bad penalties. Really no one in Nashville for him to fight (Belak is out of his league) so just go out there and hit guys hard. He’s still not ready for the NHL but he’s on his way. Good luck Marty!

  12. avatar iruber1337 says:

If I had some extra money, I’d definitely bid for Jack Hillen…he seems like such a modest guy. Good to see Schremp is such a fan favorite, he’s been nothing but positive energy since that first goal.

  13. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

Matt Martin and Joensuu will make this an exciting game! YES!

  14. avatar Bill Scanlon says:

CW should send Matt Martin over to that Hempstead town board meeting tonight.

  15. avatar Brian G says:

Maybe Roloson is on the move to Chicago or Washington…he would give both of those cup contenders a huge boost in Goal compared to what they have.

CB – What number is Matt Martin wearing tonight?

  16. avatar derek says:

    ‘Martin’ clap-clap

For some reason I’m looking at Martin as a future Islander cult icon, Steve Webb 2.0 maybe. He is exactly what this team needs. I’m excited to see him play again. Last time I saw him play he was looking to go with anyone after the Phaneuf hit.

  17. avatar Steve says:

Why not Biron? The other goalies have let in a few softies. I’d also like to trade the goalie who has the most value around the league. Next year, we are not winning the cup either and DP is going to get a good crack at starting and playing the majority of games. Rolosson is expendable right now. He and Sutton could fetch us a nice return.

I say we give DP the bulk of this year’s remaining games so he can get his timing back for next season. It’s not like DP is going to be our backup for the next 12 years. Let’s see what he has.

  18. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Big fan of Dougie but his shoulder is obviously an issue. I hope Park sits too.

  19. avatar Blizzard says:

…glad to see Marty get the start. He is a second half goalie, hope he shines.

  20. avatar Nick says:

Murray is a PAWN. Wang is PWNED. Isles are GONE

  21. avatar Hockey Guy in Canada says:

Will “Murray’s” and FP Clarke’s “new” plan regarding zoning of the site (now supposedly due next summer) be based on information and studies Wang and Rechler spent millions of dollars to compile and were obviously obligated to hand over to same FP Clarke and Kate Murray as part of the Lighthouse proposal? Murray has the nerve to call it a “new vision”. And you wonder why Wang stopped payment!?

  22. avatar Bill says:

make park take a rest too…let the young bucks play

  23. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I’m also on the Marty Biron fan brigade. How can you not like the guy? Like other goalies, he is very solid when given consistent minutes.

  24. avatar hockeytime says:

I can’t wait to see Martin. Have a good feeling about this kid. He has the swagger that this team is missing. it would,t surprise me to see him play out the rest of the season. This kid has a serious hunger for hockey and being successful…do not underestimate that. I have seen people say don’t rush or ruin him..That’s funny..this kid has more heart, character an respect for hockey than I have seen in a long time.. Matty best of luck tonight! Go Isles Go!!

  25. avatar Tom B says:

Kate Murray = Disaster. Just saw one of her fleet of new pickup trucks on the road today. In small letters its TOH in extremely large letters it says KATE MURRAY SUPERVISOR.

  26. avatar Joey303 says:

Islanders not winning the cup this year (what a stretch) or next (just as stretchy) so why not trade Roloson instead of Biron, and let DP play 2/3 of the remainder. Rolo can fetch a nice return, and I believe Ricky can benefit (*win or lose) from the playing.

  27. avatar bloodyskull says:

Boy how the chemistry of this team has disappeared. Remeber 3 weeks ago talking about the 5 seed? The merry-go-round of goalies is the root cause.

  28. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

Only think Weight contributing is with TV interviews of how important each game is. That was the beginning of the 7 game skid.
Excited to see Martin, Shame that tambo getst he snuff again. Park or hunter need to sit out to get a reality check.

If its ToH proposal we await get ready for the big giant insult to be presented. It will be a plan for refurbed coloseum with same desolete lot around it. yet somehow the town will pay 150K for the drawings to that architect and it comes out of our pocket.

Love Biron’s attitude. way to go. I hope he gets 45 save shutout and isles win. SO we can trade him and get something good for it.

    LETS GO ISLES>

  29. avatar Isles22Isles says:

    Derek#12-

I totally agree, I’m also very excited to see Martin play tonight (think he may be exactly the jolt this lifeless team needs)

Also mark this date on your calendar Sunday, March 14th (5pm)- it’s Phaneuf’s 1st visit to NVMC since his hit on Okposo.

Here’s to hoping that Martin’s still around, to ring his bell (at least once). I’ll also accept a Trevor Gillies call-up for the same purpose………….

    Go Isles!!

  30. avatar TM says:

Murray was on WCBS News radio 88 today saying how Wang was excited to hear what the scale down size will be. OK. Since that won’t be known until the summer when Wang can decide, that means next season will be on the cheap too.

How is the 2011 draft looking?

  31. avatar Pete DeBenedetto says:

You know of course Martin throws a huge hit tonight and seperates his shoulder…..just sayin.

  32. avatar isles72 says:

build the brooklyn arena with nhl hockey in mind then I’ll take the ”move to brooklyn” bluff a little more seriously .

as of today , its an nba arena

  33. avatar Jim Clark says:

The smell of panic at the old barn tonight as the Islanders start Martin Biron. Watch him get pulled after less than one period.
Anybody ask Taylor Hall if he will pull an Lindros if the Islanders select him?

  34. avatar jislander7 says:

I find it kind of funny how Scott Gordon’s overspeed system is predicated on players who are good skaters and are aggressive. Yet here is Matt Martin getting the start tonight, another challenged skater. To go along with Tavares and Hunter, two of the worst skaters in the NHL.

  35. avatar beatlebailey says:

this thing will get done. It could be that Wang is the smartest guy in the room..let Murray grandstand and take all the political accolades while Wang is perceived to have taken a back seat on this thing with the “backroom dealing” understanding that he gets 70% of what he wanted which is acceptable and we move forward. Endgame is Murray has asserted herself as the politicain for the people keeping the Isles here and Wang gets paid. Stranger things have happened.

  36. avatar beatlebailey says:

Wang going on tv a few days ago and then Murray comes out with this plan..coincidence??…in politics??..dont think so

  37. avatar geduffer says:

If I was in Charles’ place, I’d be pulling an “Indianapolis Colts” midnight move to KC and tell Kate Murray where to go.

That said, Charles blundered by tying everything to the Democrats and the Dems so totally bungled the election that they deserved their fate. The problem is that to get better, you have to demand better. When you demand nothing, you get Kate Murray and Ed Mangano.

  38. avatar Isles Revamped says:

My money is on Roloson being the goalie that gets traded b/c he has the most value. Biron is younger and the Isles could negotiate another one yr deal at far lower cost then Roloson’s contract.

These move fail to surprise me. Snow needs to cut the cord on Tamby let him get a chance somewhere else. Move him for a late round pick.

  39. avatar Eric Nystrom says:

It’s simple IF there is a HOCKEY rink being built in BROOKLYN then obviously there WILL be a HOCKEY team playing there. Maybe the Isles move away and another franchise comes to Brooklyn.. Or the Isles simply move to Brooklyn.. Either way there will be hockey in Brooklyn..

  40. Martin #46
    Joensuu #58

Tambellini will almost definitely sit but if Gordon has any sense he’ll sit Park who has been god-awful lately. Lets go Islanders!!!

  41. avatar BrassBonanza says:

This musical goalies situation is actually laughable. You need consistency between the pipes in this league, that’s the only way you are going to win. It is impossible for any of the Isles goalies (all proven #1′s I may add) to get hot, when they keep alternating starts. I don’t know who’s idea this is, but it’s a joke.

  42. avatar Islesfan in Vancouver says:

this morning on XM 204 Big Country mentioned that the Isles were dropping fast, but “had a long way to go to have a shot at a lottery pick”

Do the staff at XM even look at the standings when they make comments like that? Last I checked the Isles were fourth worst in the league, sitting in position for a lottery pick now, and the canes/leafs seem to be playing better than the isles lately. Finishing in the bottom three is not at all out of the question.

As far as scratches or line combinations, I really hope Martin plays with JT and MM, and I’d love to see JT break out of his slump with a couple of goals. Overall for the team’s future I do think it’s best they finish with a lottery pick and draft high again. We need more talent and another good draft will mean a lot.

My heart still wants to see them win, but my head knows they need a lot more talent to be successful over a number of years and that talent is not found through free agency. Free agents can fill in some pieces, but the foundation has to be built through the draft.

  43. avatar Steve says:

I wonder if Charles is really excited to see the plan that Murray has around NVMC. Time to move on to Brooklyn/Queens. Even in brooklyn where he won’t get the sole ownership, he will likely make more income (revenue-expenses) in Atlantic Yards than around NVMC due to very high population density in the area.

  44. avatar DoubleW says:

I think a game off for Mr Tavares may be a good thing for two reasons. one, he is mired in a slump, and seeing the game from a different perspective would certainly help. And two, sitting with Doug Weight watching the game is an added benefit, almost like watching with a coach.
Final thought… get NVMC renovated or move! Too long have the fans been held hostage.

  45. avatar Eastonhockey says:

What’s the purpose of playing biron? He’s not better then rolleson. The isles are so confused n lost. They need to hire a gm with expierence or ask themselves this ? Every time they have a tough choice to make. “what would the devils do?”. The devils would play roleson 90% of the games, get a coach who stresses defense opposed to forecheck, and stop these silly china..escapades…3rd 4th jerseys…hiring only lowest paid coaches gm’s n player. That’s what devils would do.

  46. avatar Eric Nystrom says:

Watching some Matt Martin fights on youtube and he remind me of #23..

  47. avatar bossjones1 says:

If Wang moves the team the TOH is in big trouble…do they renovate on the taxpayers dime? For what? I guess they could still host Disney on Ice. Or do they knock it down and have a developer build housing or what long island really need, more strip malls? Or do they just let it rot because no one can agree on what to do? In any case it is a real shame that both sides cannot find some middle ground here.

I am excited to see Martin and Joensuu play, I know it will be really ugly some nights but the team had to come back to earth eventually and its better in the long run.

  48. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

come on, lets be realistic, Martin will play the 2min 45sec tops.

  49. avatar ROB76 says:

I think that if we continue our fall before the olympic break we should trade Roloson and take the better draft pick back. If he wasn’t 40 i wouldnt think this way but what is the use of keeping him over Biron? Let Biron and DP split the starts as we fall into the lottery and maybe give Biron the extension for next season. I’m sure im in the minority in this thought but if Roloson isn’t gunna get the majority of the starts why not let him go

  50. avatar Matt NYC says:

Looking forward to Martin hitting everything he see’s tonight. This team needs it

  51. avatar JP says:

Can’t wait to see his first few shifts, since it will probably be until next game when he braks the 3:00 of ice time mark

  52. avatar Brian G says:

I really looking forward to seeing another 4th liner tonight – HA… I am going to the game, good to see 2 young teams, Nashville recalled Colin Wilson…but how many of your are going….I am guessing attendence is about 5,000 tonight…Don’t use the snow as an excuse, it will not be starting until after Midnight

  53. avatar Ray says:

Preds called up Nolan Yonkman. Now Marty has someone in his class to fight if need be. You know he’s dying to make an impression tonight.

  54. i’m looking forward to watching martin tonight. i thought he played really well in the preseason and was disappointed when i found out he didn’t make the team right out of camp. he and moulson both stood out on the ice in the preseason as unexpected pleasant surprises to me. but he is also very young, so there’s no use in expecting him to be bob probert of 1988 right now.

  55. avatar Scott VanVoorhees says:

Most of you guys are being pretty negative. We’ve got a young team. We’ve had some exciting times this year. It will be pretty funny to read here tomorrow the outpouring of positivity when the Isles win.
Still, this is about our players getting better, and they have to learn how to work together in all types of situations to do that. I’m more for getting Ricky in net as much as his body will allow right now. It must be very different for a team to play in front of him than either Dwayne or Marty. Players need some time and reps to adjust to him as much as he needs to get his timing back.

If we unload Sutton, we better get a younger version of him back.

  56. avatar thepolishprince says:

I can’t wait to see how Martin does tonight. I’m a pessimist to the core but I have a good feeling about that kid.

  57. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

So a REPUBLICAN supervisor’s administration has taken over complete control of a private real estate developmentment project.

Wow. Obama would be proud, Kate.

  58. avatar MattyB says:

Brian, There have been more discussions about him being traded than him being signed to an extension. I’d love to extend him as he is the only person on the team who hits, but who knows. Maybe you trade him, and try to sign him this off season?

  59. avatar IslesRock says:

Good move to sit Doug Weight, since he is playing hurt. I would let him keep the C for the rest of the year.

Mr. Wang could be happy Kate is coming up with the plans, since there is no way he was getting financing for his current Lighthouse plan. If I were him, I would sit down with her and make nice. Come up with a plan where he can make some money, and let her be the hero. A nice campaign contribution and the Kate Murray Rotunda would not hurt either. It’s the way the game is played Charles.

  60. avatar Davy says:

Everyone seems to agree that Roloson plays better the more he starts, the same with DiPietro. So why are we now starting the 3rd stringer?

  61. avatar MattyB says:

Probably starting Marty simply to show the league what he has to offer. NHL GM’s aren’t going to be excited about trading for a goalie who hasn’t played in the NHL in over a month.

  62. avatar matt says:

    Joensuu is awful

  63. avatar Matt S. says:

i think Islander fans should write Wang a thank you note every night. he saved this franchise and took a financial beating in the process.

Also, the guy is worth Billions. you don’t make that much money being stupid. this guy is Smart and he cares about the Islanders and Long island. that’s Aces in my book.

  64. avatar hale78 says:

to post 44 biron is playing so scouts can see him…that is not an awful decesion when you are trying to trade him

  65. avatar hale78 says:

to post 62…great analysis…joensuu has been great the past two months in the ahl you gotta give these guys a chance..the guys you seriously have to look at to see if they fit into your long term plans are comeau and bergenheim…martin will take a regular shift tonight.

  66. avatar Willis says:

They need a good game in front of Marty to..oh what am I even saying, they’ll play like they have been and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
    Still, Lets Go Islanders!

  67. avatar JohnnyC. says:

    4-0 Nashville

  68. avatar Chris in DC says:

Why does everyone want to “cut the cord” with Tambellini? For what, a late round draft pick that will probably amount to nothing? Tambellini has at least shown in spurts that he has NHL-level talent. And it’s been said a thousand times the guy really hasn’t gotten a fair shake this season.
I really don’t think he’s going anywhere, at least not right now. He’ll go back n’ forth between the bench and the ice the rest of this season, then be evaluated in the offseason when Sim and Weight, and perhaps Park and others are off the books. Wanting Tambellini to be traded just because you feel bad for him is not within the interest of the Islanders and does not make sense to me.

  69. avatar Chris in DC says:

#60, they’re starting the third-stringer cause the other two haven’t been exactly stellar of late (and I know the team hasn’t scored, but still…); Biron is a good soldier and likable guy who’s kept his mouth shut and who deserves a shot (plus, he’s a proven NHL keeper); and lastly, one of the 3 has to be moved and Biron’s value is not going to go up if he’s kept out of an NHL crease. It ups his trade value.

  70. avatar Hollywood says:

Tonight the boys break the slump. Robbie Schremp will lead the way. We will get back on track. 5-4 win maybe we go to a shootout! Let’s hope Gordon plays the proper personnel.

  71. avatar Sidd Finch says:

I like Tambo and I liked his dad. Considering he has 1 of only two hat tricks this season and probably still is top ten in goal scoring, I don’t think he has ever been able to get the benefit of the doubt and work it out over a full season. Love Tavares and not taking shots at him, but he is being given time to work it out, even though the production is not there. Just wonder why his dad hasn’t tried to take up to Edmonton, just say its payback for Scremp.

I have confidence that Snow can bag some decent payback for Sutton and Biron or Rolo. I don’t thinked he has fired of a real stinker of a trade for the Isles yet, but he has fleeced a few teams. Only time will tell.

As a taxpayer and resident on NC, I see Kate’s emergence hear as being greenlighted by the GOP. I am also quite PO’ed that the taxpayers are now forced to take on another bill for GOP politcal cronies (like they haven’t gotten their payback out of Wang’s purse 100 fold already). If this process would have proceeded rationally without constant re-starts, there would be thousands of good new jobs and tax revenue without significant cost to the TOH and NC. If this were a movie, Kate & her GOP cronies could star in “Forward to the Past” – Going were we never should have gone in the first place!!!

Maybe TOH can bring hometown favorite Eddie Murphy come to the next meeting and protest LHP by saying “I’m NIMBY, Dammit!!!”

  72. avatar jim says:

i like that Martin is getting a taste of the big time. it will show him that hard work and his style of play is appreciated. but i hope the fans don’t get too worked up and expect to much from him. he isnt a Webb style wrecking ball, and he will never be the player, or the fighter, that Nystrom was. he isn’t even going to be our Lucic, which i’ve seen some people say, as he doesn’t have the skill Lucic has. he’s a young kid that needs to put some weight on and work on his skating, and then he could potentially be a 3rd liner for us. he won’t be regularily skating on a line with Tavares a couple of years from now (if he is it would mean we’ve hit a major roadblock in our rebuild). all that being said, i’ll be there tonight and will get excited if he plants a couple of Preds into the ice.

  73. avatar Blizzard says:

…all I know is that Sim better not be scratched.

  74. avatar Chris Mc says:

Weight and Tambellini will be the scratches. Martin will play on the fourth line to ease him into the NHL style of play I believe. Also I think Comeau and Bergy are playing on the first and second lines to see if they should be part of this team moving forward. I think you’ll see a lot of that for the rest of the year. I believe one if not both will prove they belong.

As for the Biron start, its obvious its a showcase. I mean, he gave up 4 goals in an AHL game over the weekend. Don’t read anything more into it.

  75. avatar Walt says:

    4-1 Nashville.

  76. avatar dominla says:

looking forward to seeing biron. guessing it means he might be traded soon and they wantt o see what he’s got.

for sale: youthful hockey team. got gumption. includes classically built arena in slight need of repair. area surround building is a fixer upper but must deal with grumpy landlord. plenty of parking. walking distance to schools, shopping and close to parkway. no pets. loses 20 million a year but great for a tax write-off. includes all utilities plus live-in goalie at a reduced price. plus no matter what you do or how much you lose… fans will rip you apart and not appreciate anything. asking 300 million to get all my money back OBO

  77. avatar Frank nyc says:

I would be thrilled to see the Islanders score more than one goal tonight. That would be great. very exciting…

Wang saved the Islanders? Yeah, and Charlie walks on water. (Unfortunately his team can’t skate on frozen water.)

The League would not have allowed the team to be moved out of the Metropolitan Area. Got it?

The SMG lease also prevented the team from being moved. Got it?

Wang bought the team ONLY as a real estate development wedge against the TOH -and he’s failed miserably in his gangland attempt.

Wang, because he cares not a lick about hockey operations, doubled down on Milbury for years(and only dumped him when the lynch mob was gathering) and then appointed the back-up goalie. But hockey’s (not to mention winning hockey)not the point here. Never was.

Just let his son-in-law run this rinky-dink operation.

At least until his felon ex-business partner (You remember him, don’t you? He’s the guy Wang made co-owner of the team.)is released from Federal Penitentiary.

Then a real inmate can run this asylum.

    Corruption thy name is Wang.

    Nashville 7- Islanders 2

  80. avatar Luigi says:

Operation “Tank Job” starts tonight. These guys stink and tonight will be 3-0 Nashville by the ten minute mark of the first period.

    It will be unwatchable.

  81. avatar jva says:

Well, if they score 4 they have a chance to win. I think the new blood will do wonders for them tonite. The TOH seems pretty confident that if Wang walks, they have developers lined up to take his place but are these developers willing to renovate the coliseum? So if Wang leaves the coliseum will just decay and the people of Nassau will tolerate it like they always have in the past. In 10 years nobody will want to perform on Long Island. Lots of tax revenue and jobs lost!

  82. avatar Bryan says:

CB, what is your take on Biron getting the start?

    A) We lost 7 in a row lets shake things up
    B) Build Biron’s trade value
    C) Roloson is going in a trade
    D) None of the Above

  83. avatar MJS says:

Glad to see that the majority of posters here are very optimistic. The Predators are relatively a low scoring team also, this is going to be like playing the Flyers, but hopefully with better results. The Preds are also 3-6-1 in their last 10, so they’d be ripe for a beating if the Isles can get it together. Though, the Isles are being out shot 7-2 right now. Either this’ll be another loss, or else a good chance to right the ship. Here’s to an Islanders win, a financially viable version of the Lighthouse, an end to the recession, and world peace.

  84. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I was right about the lines. Gordon hasn’t a clue.

  85. avatar Doug says:

Gotta love the pass by Robbie Schremp.

  86. avatar Doug says:

The Nashville commentators are saying it wasn’t a kicking motion. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Gotta love homers. It was so obvious it took the refs about 30 seconds to overturn it.

  87. avatar Fowguinhall for President says:

How ’bout this team. Getting hard to watch and I am a 30 year vet.

Anyway, what’s up with the draft pick speculation? Let’s get this started CB, I need some more hopeful news…

  88. avatar Staten Islander says:

All these rebounds Biron is giving up, he looks really rusty, hould have stayed in Bridgeport

  89. avatar eric says:

    sutton is pissed.

  90. Sutton is pissed and rightfully so. Look at Sim get the puck deep…he is useless. 2 out of 10 games he plays a decent pest with little skill and that’s it. That’s worth nothing.
    Gervais is -2 I believe.
I really really like Biron and wouldn’t mind if he stayed and Roloson left (mostly because his character seems a better fit), but he looks very lost out there. I know he hasn’t played much but he still looks too sloppy.

  91. avatar Staten Islander says:

    2 for the D-men tonight

  92. avatar Islesphan25 says:

    Folks…

Matt Martin is here to stay….He is going to be a force to be reckoned with…He will be the next Holmstrom…..And Schremp as I said here many times when we first got him..that he was going to be very good and would be a steal….

  93. avatar isles420 says:

    matt martins lookin good.

    biron is sloppy

  94. avatar gino says:

i want the islanders to cut the chors w/tambo for the good of tambo. he’s got potential n i think its real sh—- that he’s not been given more playing time. just cut himm loose so he can go somewhere where he’ll b given more playing time.

  95. avatar Blizzard says:

…well if this is a showcase for Marty dont expect much in trade value. In his defense he hasn’t seen much consistent NHL competition.

Schremp has turned out to be a real nice little find. He is going to be a fan favorite for sure.

  96. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Bye Bye Sim….Sit your butt down for the 3rd Period…Tambs we will see you tomorrow…Martin will play tom. against the Pens..

    The Young guys look good….

  97. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

matt martin has that look about him like he is going to be a real force and agitator in this league. Very happy with his play tonight. Also, who is this number 44?? and what has he done with the Freddy Meyer I know?? He has played amazing tonight!

  98. avatar Bobby BanTon says:

    Matt Martins a keeper!

  99. avatar Steve says:

Meyer was finally give some ice time and look what happened tonight.

  100. avatar JGE says:

NIce 1st game by Matty ..welcome to the club

  101. avatar isles420 says:

    FINNNNNAALLLYYY!!!

    GREAT EFFORT TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  102. avatar Hollywood says:

    WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  103. avatar Blizzard says:

    Playoffs!!!!!!!!!!

  104. avatar IslesNation says:

Although I’m happy the guys pulled out the win tonight this doesn’t change my thoughts on the rest of the season. 3 regulation goals all from d-men, 2 on the PP, and still needed a SO to win it. This makes I believe 13 OT or SO wins out of 24 total. Congrats to Matt Martin, definitely looking forward to seeing more of him.

  105. avatar Joey303 says:

Martin looked great – Deb did also :)

  106. avatar MattyB says:

Good effort tonite. Nice work By Martin. Biron looked eh, that third shootout attemp was atrocious, but whatever he won, more than I can say about Grandpa and Ricky D in the previous 7.
