OTTAWA at ISLANDERS, 5:05 pm
The latest biggest game of the season

by Chris Botta on February 14th, 2010 at 5:11 pm

Same 20-man lineup for the Islanders, except with Dwayne Roloson starting in goal. Brian Elliott will start his 14th straight game for Ottawa.

Scott Gordon and Mark Streit will be zipping out of here soon after the game for the airport and their flight to Vancouver. Streit will make the short drive first to his Long Island home, where he will meet up with his parents and an 8:00 pm limousine awaits.

Gordon on the Olympics: “The experience itself is second to none.”

Talk about the game in Comments.

    good luck guys

  2. avatar rb says:

Since USA Hockey unfairly decided to pass over Kyle, I’ll be rooting hard for Mark Streit to lead the Swiss to an upset win over the sorry bunch of clowns known as Team USA with their Chris Drury, Ryan Callahan, Zach Parise and Jamie what’s his face.

  3. avatar Alex says:

im excited for the olympics.. so far the women’s games have been awesome!

  4. avatar Tom says:

Lets get 1 more beforewe send of GoGo.

  5. avatar Dennis Vaske says:

I am predicting an offensive outburst from JT, at least 2 goals. 4-3 Isles. Any word on the Isles not bringing back Billy Jaffe? I will have the TV on mute once again.

  6. avatar Bill says:

how does bergie get to be in the lineup every night. he is just as inconsistant as tamby yet never ends up in the dog house.

if tambellini had one penalty like the ones he took he would see the bench for over a month after a game like that

  7. avatar Ron says:

Got a bad feeling about this one….

  8. avatar isles420 says:

jt will get a goal 2night that assist probably took some stress off of him

  9. avatar Jim Clark says:

A tribute to Charles Wang’s first decade of ownership is the fact there is only one Islander playing in the Olympics.

  10. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

I woudln’t want to see Bergie out of the lineup. His speed is needed though I wish he didn’t have cement hands. He is what he is, an energy guy that can score 10 goals a season.

  11. avatar 4theisles says:

A win tonight keeps the playoff flame burning ever so slightly. A loss,- well you fill in the blanks.

  12. avatar Bill says:

my point about bergie right there….

  13. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Brutal first five minutes, no legs, no shots, no possession in the Ottawa zone. Why do they always start so poorly?

  14. avatar Michael says:

I was excited for this game and then it started. The fact that it started ontime is the only plus so far. Feels like it’s going to be a long day.

  15. avatar MattyB says:

Though KO isn’t on Team USA, I find it very hard to use that a reason to not root for my country. Screw Canada, I want nothing more than USA or Someone else ruin their dreams!

  16. avatar pocketski says:

bergenheim gave up puck inside defensive zone on ruutu goal haven’t seen him since.

  17. avatar miguel says:

sorry but if we beat ottawa it will be a miracle. The only way this team will make the playoffs is if tavares reaches the 30 goal plateau, and even if he does …the team is deficient in a lot of areas.wake up snow.I cant stand snow, hes much too arrogant and he hasnt won anything !!!!!bill torrey was much more humble and we all know what he accomplished.,as for wang……..well leave that for another day

  18. avatar battfist says:

    Kohn is a keeper.

  19. avatar Themass says:

Isles – DP = more confidence

  20. avatar BC says:

I’ve always thought Comeau could be a good 3rd line grinder on our team. As long as he continues like he has for the past couple of games no one could argue differently.

  21. avatar Brian G says:

Even if they win today this team is still sellers. Sutton, Roloson, Biron, Weight, Park – still should be traded….and if you cannot trade Sim…he should be put on waivers on 3/4…Both Goalies should be traded…this team is going nowhere with or without them…let DP play 15 out of the last 20…what is the big deal.

  22. avatar Chris Mc says:

I’m always defending Comeau on here and Im sure some of the BC detractors will come out and tell me hes worthless, but the guy now has a career high in goals in the least amount of games hes ever played in a season. He’d be on a pace for 16 goals if he played a full season and is a good defensive player. Isn’t that what you want from a 3rd line winger? 15 goals and good D?

  23. avatar Islesfan In Vancouver says:

still boggles my mind on how JT keeps getting ripped here in comments. In my opinion he’s looking better as the season goes on, but he’s just been very unlucky with bounces and posts.

The kid is going to be a phenom. I love the way he’s handling the puck along the boards and he’s not taking the huge hits as much as he was early. Once he gets a break and scores it’ll open the floodgates.

  24. avatar battfist says:

Isles blueline could be nice group next season!
    For instance-
    Streit-Hillen
    McDonald-Martinek
    Sutton/Free Agent-Kohn (could be 6’2 215 next year)
    Hamonic in the waiting…Gervais/Meyer

    Finish this game!!!!!
    Go Isles….

  25. avatar pocketski says:

“the mass” is right. The two vet goalies seem to settle this team. DP and his high drama doesn’t.
Comeau has two goals . There must be a god
JT is looking more confident, shooting the puck more
That’s why you were first pick. Now go to it,lad.

  26. avatar Jersey Steve says:

One word describes our powerplay: stinky.

  27. avatar jerry says:

    was there ever any doubt?

  28. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

I wanted to say the Isles haven’t won back-to-back games in regulation since December back in the 2nd period, but I knew better.

  29. avatar bryan says:

What do you know… unable to score on a 5 on 3 and then complete meltdown. Experience Islanders Hockey.

  30. avatar MattyB says:

They are absolutely disgraceful. Can Tavares Play Any Sort of Defense?

  31. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

I don’t think you can have Hillen, McDonald and Kohn playing key roles on your D and make the playoffs. It all depends on what there expectations are for next season. We are not talking about Weber, Hamhuis and Suter here.

  32. avatar Uconn husky says:

Just going repeat the obvious. This team IS NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME…. sell the vets and sink towards the lottery

  33. avatar mLem says:

folks that makes a total of at least 6 goals in the past 2 games that were scored by a guy unmarked/manned/etc right in(front) of the crease

  34. avatar MattyB says:

It’s not about Primetime, winning the Cup, or fricken Making the playoffs. It’s about being up 3-1 going into the third and having a 5 on 3 for a half a minute to start the period, and then be down 4-3 6 minutes later. That is absolutely horrible.

  35. avatar eastonhockey says:

Wang will have Dey come out with this press release as soon as Isles lose this game “The NY Islanders with our youth, our constant losses, are now even closer to our next stanly cup then we ever expected to be 3 months ago”

  36. avatar The Mick says:

Would be happy with another top 3 pick this year. What a frustrating team.

By the way, what is up with Tavares. His game has completely left him.

  37. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Take the positives out of each game…we are getting better each time..and hit rough batches….

    Its year 2 of a rebuild….

  38. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Terrible hockey day as Rangers come back from down two while Isles blow a two goal lead.

  39. avatar gino says:

i was being sarcastic about martin by the way about going back to bridgeport

  40. avatar Chris Mc says:

Why on earth did Gordo have 3 defenseman on the ice with the goalie pulled? If it was to have Sutton down low as Jaffe said then why was he on the point and Brutal Gervais the one down in front of the net? Im scratching my headat that one.

  41. avatar walt says:

Lack of physical play is disconcerting

  42. avatar MattyB says:

Oh enough with the second year of a rebuild garbage. That explains a lot of the flaws of this team, but it’s no excuse for a 3-1 blow lead in the third after starting with a 5-3. That’s just heart. You have a two week break, and the team that left it on the ice won the game

  43. avatar pocketski says:

    I’m sorry I was just excited I thought a 3-1 lead with a 5 on 3
to start the third was enough for a W.
I’m back though, back from “ISLANDER DREAM LAND”
Oh yea JT didn’t back check, instead coasted on that last goal.
YEA! two weeks without a major disappointment. Enjoy all!

  44. avatar The Mick says:

Explain getting better Islesphan25. The Isles continue to blow multiple goal leads, continue to get severely outplayed in the 3rd period of games. Our #1 pick looks completely lost. Okposo can’t seem to finish, the goaltending has been average and the power play is inept (especially 5 on 3).

My positives has been the play of Andrew McDonald and Martin actually dropping the gloves.

  45. avatar Kevin says:

what did I say? the ottawa senators just walked into the nassau coliseum and played for 20 minutes and still skated away with 2 points.

  46. avatar Steven says:

Bad loss today year two of rebuild or not. Like 33 said too many goals because the other team is left all alone in front. I think JT will be fine but he has to pick up his man on that goal. The Isles need a couple of Martin’s on D. I hope the Isles are sellers at the deadline.

  47. avatar gino says:

couldn’t of said it better mattyb(42). you think colorado av’s are coming up w/this rebuild bs? very young team that puts in 100% every game.

  48. avatar mtrico says:

Yet another crushing defeat for the Isles playoff hopes. Time to realize that we’re out of it and sell at the deadline.

  49. avatar Kevin says:

#46 the thing is that colorado has good young players. the islanders have scrubs like bruno gervais who is the biggest waste of space i have ever seen. just because you have some “younger” players on this team, it means nothing if they show no signs of being good.

  50. avatar isles316 says:

loss is on coaching staff. special teams suck. unacceptable loss

  51. avatar Ny says:

    100% agree with #48

  52. avatar MattyB says:

The Islanders have some good young talent. KO is good, finishing can be better, but he’ll work on it. JT will be fine, but he’s bad very bad defensivly. That can be worked on, he’s only 19. However, Gervais,Tambellini are wastes of a roster spot. Nielson is a good player, but in reality he’s prob a third line center. Comeau shows signs like today of being very good, but then can go invisible. And everyone else is just a question mark. Joensue, Martin, Kohn who knows how these kids will wind up.

  53. avatar BringBackNyles says:

    Two observations:

    1. Not that I rooted for a loss, but maybe this is for the best. Had we won, Garth and the front office may have convinced themselves the three game winning strak shows we have a shot in the final run. This loss, painful as it was, I think brings the final nail into any playoff run ideas. We can’t close games

    2. Howie Rose has to calm down with the idea the Islanders “put pressure on to the end”. We blew a three goal lead, they should be booed off the ice

  54. avatar BringBackNyles says:

    Sorry..two goal lead

  55. avatar LES says:

god did roloson suck tonight in the 3rd. what a shame

  56. avatar bob says:

I see that Kohn is the next coming of Jesus Christ according to this board. Hillen and McDonald proceeded him.

Yes, the Isles are playing the young d-man. And guess what? They stink defensively.

  57. avatar Rebuild in Perpetuity says:

Another example of great Islander hockey. Lost a 3-1 lead, can’t score on a 5-3 and the #1 overall pick takes another oh-for-the game.

“Tavares played a good game, he just didn’t score”

Excuse me, but that is why we HAD TO DRAFT HIM right? He was a sniper, right?

Tavares couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. He’s terrible, and once again Islanders fans get to worry about the draft lottery.

The perpetual rebuild enters the next phase.

  58. avatar gino says:

kevin(48)last yr colorado sucked w/ the same young players they have this year, minus duschene, they now have bought into the system that has been given to them. so yes i do agree w/u that the talent u have is important but u also have to have conifidence in the system that your coach has put in front of u which this team is obviously having trouble with

  59. avatar Jack1NJ says:

    WANG MUST GO!!!!!!!

  60. avatar Displaced in Jersey says:

First time poster here, I’d just like to say that the Olympic break will do us the fans and the players well hopefully.

  61. avatar Viper says:

Awesome! Middle of the pack just delays the rebuild. Let’s sell off and start dumping the rest of the way. Columbus has the right idea…we need top 3!

  62. avatar Islesfan In Vancouver says:

sounds good. we’ll dump on a 19 year old kid one goal shy of our leading goal scorer’s totals from all of last year. Clearly he’s a bust.

    Come on guys.
