ISLANDERS at RANGERS, 7:00 pm
Completely optional morning skate report

by Chris Botta on March 24th, 2010 at 11:16 am

Chris Botta on Twitter

11:20 am, Madison Square Garden: Boston won in Atlanta last night (Jack Edwards said he’d been “in louder libraries”), giving tonight’s rivalry tilt less luster than it already had. The Rangers are seven points behind the Bruins, the Islanders ten. The visitors have a chance to stick the dagger in the Blueshirts’ playoff hopes tonight. Besides that, and the 3-D debut, chances are this game might be remembered more in a few years for The Fall for Seguin and Hall than anything else.

Since the Islanders have had a consistently higher battle level than the Rangers through 70 games, I expect them to win tonight. The great unknown is whether Henrik Lundqvist has one of those incredible games where he’s pulling pucks out of his rear. Dwayne Roloson gets the start for the Islanders.

*

Trevor Gillies in tonight. Jeff Tambellini is the healthy scratch (yeah, I know…I rule with the scoops). The projected Islanders combinations to start tonight:

Moulson – Tavares – Comeau

Sim – Nielsen – Okposo

Bergenheim - Bailey – Hunter

Gillies – Park – Jackman

Meyer – Hillen

Streit – Gervais

Kohn – Reese

Roloson

Biron

Sounds from the Locker Room

Josh Bailey: “Hopefully, we can be a bit of a spoiler. We’re not too focused on where we are in the standings right now, but you never know what’s going to happen.”

Mark Streit: “The guys don’t need any extra motivation. It’s a pleasure to play these games. There’s something in the air you don’t always feel in other games.”

Kyle Okposo: “It’s fun playing these games. The fans make the difference. There never seems to be dull games between us. I like it. I love the physical games. I love getting hit. Helps me get into the game even more.”

Scott Gordon: “(The Rangers) can’t afford to have too many more off nights. I’m sure they’ll be ready to play.”

The Facts

The Islanders have a chance to make a little team history tonight if they beat the Rangers. They are 2-0 against them this season at Madison Square Garden. An Islanders club has never gone undefeated in Manhattan during a season in which they played in the Garden more than twice.

The road ice advantage has been a mainstay in this rivalry. The Islanders are 10-4-1 in their last 15 games at MSG, but are 8-21-3 in their last 32 games against the Rangers at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Scott Gordon has done well here in his brief Islanders career. Although the head coach is a combined 0-15-1 in New Jersey, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Gordon is 3-2 at the Garden.

The Stony Brook University roller hockey team is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, March 27 for the family of Danielle Rosano, a six-year-old girl from East Setauket who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

The Stony Brook team will host a three-hour roller hockey clinic on March 27 beginning at noon for children ages 5-14 at Skate Safe America in Bethpage. The cost is $15 per person. All proceeds will go directly to the Rosano family. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Notes: Congratulations to Kings Park’s James Marcou on signing as a collegiate free agent with the San Jose Sharks. The 5-8, 175-pound playmaking dynamo had 51 points (11+40) in 36 games with the University of Massachusetts and is a two-time nominee for the Hobey Baker Award.

The big Islanders fan (his mom used to cut Patrick Flatley’s hair) attended a team minicamp on Long Island three years ago. He demonstrated the skill that has earned him an Entry Level contract with San Jose.

The NHL’s Board of Governors has approved a new rule outlawing headshots. The NHL Players’ Association? Not too sure.

At FanHouse, we have created a trio of NHL awards honoring some people who rarely get any credit. Please vote for the Best Defensive Defenseman of 2009-10 and the Assistant Coach of the Year. The third and final award will be introduced next week.

I’m not sure what, if anything, I’ll have for a postgamer tonight from the Garden. I was asked to cover the 3-D thing for AOL and will be watching at least the first half of the game in the Theatre at MSG. Will try to come up with something. Thanks for reading.

Terrific line in the Newsday rant today. A reader wrote that even though the game is in 3-D, the Rangers will still come out flat. Funny stuff.

I couldn’t care less where we are in the standings when we play the rags. Beat ‘em tonight and we’ll worry later!!!

  2. avatar (Sim)ple says:

Let’s put the nail in the Rangers coffin for the playoffs. They don’t care about draft position yet, let’s make them start to.

  3. avatar Lorne says:

Tonight is a big time spolier game for us. What better place then to do it then MSG.

  4. avatar Isles316 says:

“The great unknown is whether Henrik Lundqvist has one of those incredible games where he’s pulling pucks out of his rear.”

That’s pretty funny, yet so true.

  5. avatar Brian G says:

Many things fell into place last night helping the Islanders “Fall for Hall” – they sit in the 3rd position, hopefully they stay there or move down a spot to get the second pick by the end of the season

CB – Do you think the Islanders will sign any college UFA’s?

CB – Any word why Cablevision/NHL is not giving the free preview to the NHL Network this week – I saw they were offering it, but at my friends house, we put the station on and it didn’t work? that would help promote the game more

U.S. NHL Network Schedule – Highlights For Free Preview Week (March 20-27)

  6. avatar Dan Sec 303 says:

    CB,

Your link to headshots rule is incorrect, it sends you to the Thrashers, Fans Fail to Show Up article.

    Dan

  7. avatar SCLI says:

thank goodness that Trevor Gillies in tonight.

  8. avatar Merrick says:

I’m going to the 3D showing tonight; I’m as curious about the atmosphere inside the theater for a Ranger-Islanders game as I am about the 3D itself.

  9. avatar Macch says:

Why is Bailey on the third line?????

  10. avatar thetruth says:

the fall for hall/seguin shall commence tonight and continue right onto the last game. you question our pride? the nyi (management has no pride). otherwise, they wouldn’t treat the fans the way they currently do.

  11. avatar Madchef says:

could be the 2nd to last game of meaning for the isles this season. Man I hope they slide to the 2nd overall pick, I mean why finish first out of playoffs, get something in return.

  12. avatar Tony says:

I watched the Rangers game the other night and they stink worse than the Isles. At least the Isles have an excuse. I expect the Isles to win a close, passionless game.

  13. avatar Cairns311 says:

Such a joke that Tambellini never gets a shot. Gillies has nothing to offer besides taking stupid penalties.

  14. avatar Dorfer says:

    Kings Park Pride!

  15. avatar StevieL says:

Wow! LI becoming quite the Hot bed of Hockey. Quite a few local boys finding their way to the NHL. I wish the isles would grab a few of them!!
Another strange situation tonight! We sit in the bottom 3 right now, but we always want to beat the Rags! And we don’t want to help the Rags wind up with a bottom 3 pick! That would be a nightmare! What to do, What to do??

  16. avatar vukotaismyhero12 says:

Marcou has some great talent..played against him in bantams..congrates

  17. avatar Gary says:

when does ricks insurance kick in??

  18. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

Play to win tonight. End up 1 point behind the rags at the end of the season. The projected first 7 picks in the draft this year are quite good. Our scouting staff really needs to put the petal to the metal and get us the absolute best player available. I don’t think I could stand if the rags picked one after us, and their player becomes a star. No more Parisi-like drafts, please!!! Kick some sorry arrogant ranger butt tonight. GO ISLES.

  19. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

play to win tonight. play to lose any other game than rangers.

Would love to see tavares catch Duchene to take rookie points lead in last 10 games.

CB, very interested in your 3D experience comments. Let me know if got scared and Ducked every time Grevais takes shot at net and misses wide.

  20. avatar Eastonhockey says:

Make fun of the rags looks silly. They win a playoff round…every few years. Isles havt won a round since cell phones were invented

  21. avatar Mike L says:

Jack Edwards is a joke. I think I hate him as much as I hate the Rangers. I know he works for NESN but there’s a difference between being a homer and just being a d*****.

  22. avatar Chris Mc says:

You play to win every game. Rangers or not. If we end up with a great pick then so be it. If we end up with 6 or 7 then we make due. We’ve already talked this week about Dave Chyzowski and how he was the consensus #2 and turned out to be garbage. The draft is a grab shoot and whether we’re at 2 or 7, we’ll still get a chance to roll the dice with a decent prospect.

I’d much rather watch the Islanders win 10 in a row and finish the season strong going into next year than finish losing 10 in a row and end up watching us get knocked back a spot bc some other team lucks out with the lottery.

  23. avatar IslandersFAN says:

i’ve seen the Rags played recently and they are awful…the Isles just need to play a good game they will beat them.

  24. avatar Frans Dish says:

When the Islanders play well who can really root for them to lose. Play hard boys and karma will take care of the rest for the draft. I really don’t think the worst team in league is going to win the lottery three years in a row now.

  25. avatar CT Isles Fan says:

I’ll see you in 3D CB.

  26. avatar Frankie D says:

#13 Cairns311 Tamby got a chance the last 2 games and showed nothing. He also took stupid penalties. At least Gillies can fight if we need somebody.

  27. avatar JayK says:

I’m going to the Garden tonight, and it’s the first time I’ll be at a Rangers-Islanders game there since Pierre Turgeon scored his 50th in OT, all but eliminating the Rangers from the playoffs. Second-best memory after the goal: Ray Ferraro skating off, looking at a group of heckling Rangers fans, and imitating a golf club swing. Priceless. Tonight I’ll be wearing a Tavares jersey. I figure he was 2 the last time I saw Rags-Isles at MSG.

  28. avatar joe says:

I’m telling you, if the Isles win tonight, the Rangers will continue a free fall and may win 1,2 games the rest of the way. And then they will draft Hall. And Ranger fans will be saying they have Hall to go along with a Top 5 rating in THN’s Future watch. They can buy out Redden and Roszival and have Drury money cleared in 2 years and Rangers fans can say “we are rebuilding” just like we are now. And then in two years they will have ample cap space.

    Lose this game tonight!!

  29. avatar MileHighIsle says:

Let’s get this win tonight, boys!! I miss the days of my youth when I’d see Rags fans wearing their jerseys in school the day of game. Always made for an eventful day. Although this rivalry has lost all passion ain’t nothing wrong with wishing it came back tonight and next week. Bring up Martin & Haley next week to help Gillies. This rivalry needs fights!!!

  30. avatar Chris16 says:

An overtime win would be great. We beat the Rag$ and keep some distance between us and them for a top pick.

  31. avatar Spartiarti-RVC says:

its not 3rd line. isles roll 3 lines pretty regularly.

I like Bailey back at Center. I want to see what he can do. Not crazy about Sim on second line but what can you do.

love the first line. Feels like a Comeau night.

Are we ever going to see Gillie throw down?

  32. avatar KP says:

I don’t care either way about a win or loss. A loss is more beneficial for the team, pains me as it is to say that, but we all know the truth.

  33. avatar Hoguefanclub says:

Absolutely no reason to win this game tonight. You’ll thank the faithful “lose now” crowd when Seguin is leading us into the playoffs next year!

  34. avatar Staten Islander says:

I want to see Gillies live up to the legacy of that name

  35. avatar Dan says:

Sorry can’t root against the Isles. I will be there tonite so I hope they win!!

  36. avatar Dmoney says:

I understand the whole “need to lose” thing But tonight we are playing our hated rivals the rags. I would never root for the rags, Lets go Islanders!!! And please someone beat avery down to the ground! Just please beat the rags and the flyers the rest they can lose.

  37. avatar EAF says:

that’s just wrong to root against your team no matter who they pay against

  38. avatar Eric says:

I actually think tonights game will have a lot of passion. The only Islanders/ranger$ game that I have seen where I can say the game was boring, other than lets say a 5-1 nyr/nyi game was the game on december 16th when the Islanders won 2-1. Boy, that was a bad one. The crowd was quiet, the play was quiet, it just did not have an islander/ranger feel to it at all. Tonights game…both teams will come out hungry. I excpect a very good game. Hopefully the Islanders can come out on top(not in a shootout) and take the season series from there hated rivals!

  39. avatar Lafars says:

Good thing the boys will go out and just play hockey tonight instead of listening to the loose now crowd.

  40. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Wise about playing Gillies but Martin and/or Riechlecz should have been inserted too. Isles fans need the pick me up of seeing them spill some Rags blood.

  41. avatar OJK says:

CB, you make a case rooting for the Isles for reasons of prosperity. But as usual, it all comes back to, will this Team even be here ?

  42. avatar (Sim)ple says:

Do Giants fans root for the Eagles? Yanks fans for the Sox? Mets fans for the Phils? Being an Islander fan and rooting for the Rangers sickens me.

Stop talking like losing this game will automatically get us a top 2 pick and stop talking like the Rangers losing this game will automatically get them a top 2 pick. And no need to keep referring to the THN Future Watch. That is nothing more than an opinion poll. Besides, half of those Rangers prospects will be traded before reaching NY. Or they will become the next Pavel Brendl, Jaime Lundmark, or Huge Specimen.

    Stop worrying so much Joe.

  43. avatar JayK says:

Eastonhockey — #20 — yeah, we may not have much recent success. But we also didn’t spend 98% of the salary cap just to finish out of the playoffs.

  44. avatar SCLI says:

WOW! I cant believe I’m still hearing calls for Tamby to be put in the line up! Garth please trade this kid (an impossible task) for a bag of pucks and a cup of coffee so we never have to hear about this underachiever again.

  45. avatar SCLI says:

    Spartiarti-RVC on Mar 24th, 2010 14:13:50

Are we ever going to see Gillie throw down?
    ********************************************
TONIGHT! I guarantee it. Shelly vs Gillies!

  46. avatar 4theisles says:

The players play for their paycheck this year and even more so for a better one next year Some play just to stay with the Isles others just to stay in the NHL. The team will not lose for a better draft position, especially tonight against the NYR.

  47. avatar ken says:

come on, we all know there is nothing sweeter then taking 2 points at MSG w/ a gritty effort. the rangers are desperate and will come out and try and bully us. I cant wait to see how the young core reacts. Looking forward to KO and Comeau playing very physical games.

  48. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

We can resume the fall towards the ‘top 3′ tomorrow against the Flames. Rooting for the Rags – thats sacrilege

  49. avatar joe says:

I totally disagree. If the Rangers lose the next 10 games and draft Hall or Seguin it would be the best moment that team has had since 1994. Does anyone have any regrets with the Isles finsihing last a season ago? I don’t.

Personally, I like would like it better if the Rangers got the 8th seed with absolutely no chance to beat the Caps.

We are told here how bright the future is. I tell this to my Ranger friend fans. And then THN (the Bible) tells me the rangers have better better prospects and NHL players 21 and under. Very frustrating!

  50. avatar JSExpress says:

    LET’S GO ISLANDERS!

  51. avatar CT Isles Fan says:

I’d be happy with Cam Fowler

  52. avatar Marty says:

Let’s go Rangers! Isles, keep losing. Let Toronto jump above you and finish with the 2nd worst record. You know Toronto won’t tank on purpose since Boston gets their pick…think long term…screw winning meaningless games.

  53. avatar DCJeff says:

I was out in Anaheim and LA for the end of the west coast swing and Gilles was chomping at the bit to throw down in LA. He was the last guy off the ice for warmups and was eyeballing every single King as they got off the ice. I hope he gets his chance tonight — in 3D!!!

  54. avatar Dan W. says:

Does anyone actually have a 3D TV?

  55. avatar Jzimm says:

I really wish that we could have signed Marcou. I knew him when he was 11 years old. He’s a good kid, a great personality, has a good family, and he’s a great hockey player. He’s always been successful, and I hope that he can carry that into the NHL. All the best luck to him.

  56. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

I will be there. First game ever in 3D. I would much rather watch the Isles win in 3D than lose in 3D. Destroy the ragamuffins.

  57. avatar Michael says:

Who’s brilliant idea was it in the front office of the NYI to announce a viewing party at the Marriot a mere two hours before game time. I’ve been looking for a place to watch the game in 3-D all week and I get a memo an hour prior to puck drop. This really is a mickey mouse organization. I should just start taking the ferry across the sound to Bridgeport. At least they function well enough to be taken seriously in their league.

  58. avatar nino says:

    GO3DISLES

  59. avatar Shremp Co 13 says:

I expect a hard effort from the guys and to really use this game as a measuring stick as far as how mature they nucleus really is. This game still has implications for the Rangers despite being 7 or so points out so i expect them to come out just as hard. Lets see where we are in this “rebuild”.

  60. avatar The Simtuation says:

Sim = 2 or more points tonight ;)

  61. avatar Eric says:

Joe #49…I wouldn’t worry about THN and their prospects rankings. Like the Yankees, the Rags and their prospects are always overrated.

  62. avatar Joe says:

Get Sim off the ice, he is terrible.

  63. avatar Staten Islander says:

    I hope Sim clocks Avery

  64. avatar Joe says:

    Nice job Trevor!

  65. avatar UIF says:

Hope all the “want the Isles to lose” people are enjoying this…team looks outmuscled and lost out there tonight.

  66. avatar mrlbem says:

What’s going on? Stuck in the office.

  67. avatar Joe says:

Holy crap the Isles look very bad.

  68. avatar Staten Islander says:

chef bruno poisons us again. at least gordo calls a timeout

  69. avatar John says:

Gervais is just the worst. Is it just me or is he making a bad mistake EVERY time there is a goal? He is just awful.

  70. avatar UIF says:

2-0 Rangers. Gervais gets caught pinching on the second goal, then gets back in time but leaves Gaborik wide open anyway, deciding to flop on top of Roloson for no reason instead.

  71. avatar Bob says:

Way to go Bruno…out of position again leads to another goal….what a loser!

  72. avatar Jim Clark says:

Does this game look as bad in 3D as it does in 2D? Not that I have to ever worry about MSG allowing #D broadcasts on Verizon FIOS…..

  73. avatar Matt 85 says:

Gervais is bad. Really really bad. He’s just a bad defenseman. He can’t possibly be part of this rebuild, does management really something in him? I just don’t understand how an NHL player can see the ice that poorly and look THAT lost so much of the time…

  74. avatar Staten Islander says:

    BOOM! goes the dynomite

  75. avatar AngryPete says:

We look as EMBARASSING in 3D as we do in 2D, HD, 480p and stick-figure drawings!

  76. avatar John says:

What a joke at least show up against your rival

  77. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Wow, this team needs to wake up. Although Gervais has stood out, the whole team has been brutal. On a side note, I was hoping to see Matt Martin in this game.

  78. avatar MattyB says:

GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY…

Wow this is absolutely pathetic haha…Disgraceful…At least I take solace in the fact that the Rangers could have done this the last 3 weeks and made the playoffs but decided to do it tonite vs. the Islanders when they are already done haha

  79. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Bruno is -2 already.

    Gillies is 1-0.

Matt Martin would have made a huge difference in this game, so would JJ.

CB did Dean Chynoweth get any consideratio for your Fanhouse assistant coaches article? No one has had less to work with then Dean, and the progress and assimilation of Sutton, Kohn, Hillen, MacDonald and even Reese says he’s darn good at what he does.

Can’t believe the boys are having a choke fest tonight. 3-0 and the Rags are dominating them except in the fight. It could get ugly if the Rangers get a big lead because the Isles only have the one fighter.

Tomorrow I expect to start seeing the draft and FA breakdowns on this site.

  80. avatar nhl fan says:

    Here comes a top 3 pick…..

  81. avatar IslesNation says:

Well even though I want a high pick this is not what I wanted to see. Hate the rags

  82. avatar Bri on Li says:

    sigh. let the Fall begin?

  83. avatar UIF says:

So much for all the inspirational “sounds from the locker room”.

  84. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Is everyone else going to be upset as I am if Bruno is still on the roster this summer and Snow/Gordo/Isles PR staff trying Snowjobing us on what a great guy Bruno is and what a steal of the draft he was? Isles have and will never win anything when Bruno is on the roster.

  85. avatar MattyB says:

Dyland Reese is hurt….Oh no, now we’re def not coming back

  86. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

This has been rough. Did’nt expect the Isles to come out so flat in this one.

  87. avatar BB says:

Gervais is here because he works at a very low salary, and thats the way it is in Islander country. Same with Hunter and the others, if you will work on the cheap you can be an Islander too.!!!

  88. avatar Sean says:

I guess the Tytaylcam Watch can officially begin.

  89. avatar Bob says:

In my mind another guy who seems to have lost quite a bit is Trent Hunter…his poor skating is showing more and more all the time…solid on the puck in the corners but away from the boards looks like he belongs in the ECHL.

  90. avatar scottd says:

Folks, the loser point thing not withstanding, there’s no middle ground between winning and losing. There’s just not. We can’t root for the team to lose games to improve draft position in one breathe, and then in the next complain when they get their tails kicked in.

It’s almost like we’ve become so desenitized to losing itself that we’ve created this thing in our minds called “losing properly.” We want to lose but we want to do it properly. But it just doesn’t work that way. A loss is a loss. You wanted losing, you got it.

  91. avatar pat says:

Somehow i find myself getting more and more disgusted watching them play. I hate being a die-harder sometimes.

  92. avatar Bob says:

Reese is not hurt…he is out there now

  93. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

So much for the Isles battle level. This is embarrassing.

Also, it will be a great day for this frachise when the likes of Richard Park and Bruno Gervais are not on the ice for a power play. (nothing personal against either player)

  94. avatar ken says:

    white flag

  95. avatar upstatebackstop says:

Bruno Gervais continues to exemplify why he is a perenial allstar, surefire hall of fame defensemen, and norris trophy candidate. WHAT A GREAT PLAYER!! On a serious note..the fact that he is allowed to to play the same position Potvin once graced, for the same team no less, infuriates me.

  96. avatar pocketski says:

game over. i know bantams that skate faster than hunter

  97. avatar marc says:

Hey Garth Snow instead of pushing silly plans like a tournment play for the last playoff spot for teams 8-16…… maybe proposal that if u don’t want the power play the time should just come off the clock instead of being a man up….. man the power play line stink……

  98. avatar Bob says:

I have to say my the Isles are about 5 players away from a solid team. They could do without Gervais, Sim, Tambellini, Jackman, Hunter. Park I can live with at least for the penalty kill.

  99. avatar ars9x says:

I’m not saying Bruno is a great player by any means, but he seems to be a good scapegoat.

  100. avatar Jzimm says:

ars9x, everyone is good at something.

Wow, what a brutal period! They can’t play like this and expect to make the playoffs next year!

Show a little bit of heart!

  101. avatar JSExpress says:

I’m stuck at the office and had to listen to the radio stream of the first period on-line. Incredibly, the mics of the production guys seem to be live, so you can hear their conversations over most commercials and some live action calls. This went on for the entire period. Seems like everything about this organization is bush league today.

  102. avatar MattyB says:

This isn’t all Bruno’s fault. No chance, they all played terrible. However, Bruno Gervais is not an NHL defenseman. They guys is flat out awful. There should be no place for him on an NHL roster, even if its a pathetic roster like ours

  103. avatar Matt S. says:

Bruno Gervais is a terrible hockey player . is his contract over soon?

  104. avatar MattyB says:

    The guy*

  105. avatar C.J. says:

Did the Isles take the optional approach to playing the game tonight too?

  106. avatar Patrick says:

    The worst.

  107. avatar Eric says:

NEW COACH? How does a team(I dont care how deflated they are defensively) come out so flat against your only rival??? This team played well in vancouver, in anaheim, in La and now have 3 days off and come out this Flat. Unacceptable.

  108. avatar MileHighIsle says:

Not all Bruno’s fault. Team just didn’t show up. Gillies did!! Took on a tough customer (though smaller) and got the W. For a moment I thought hockey was back. Moulson played like an AHLer and Okposo couldn’t shoot the puck into the Hudson. Plus, I’ve never seen him check anybody. This guy’s supposed to be our future leader? He’s too soft. Unless he becomes a 50 goal scorer. Gillies screwed our chance of being the first team to win the Lady Byng Award.

  109. avatar scottd says:

Post #97 is very fitting in my opinion, because the worst is what you have to be in order to get one of the top three picks in the draft. If that’s what we want this year, we have to live with this team looking, playing and actually being the worst in the league. You don’t get to look, feel and play like a team that’s on the cusp of the playoffs and still get a top 3 pick. Those picks are meant for the worst teams. To get one, we have to be one. And if that’s really what we want (and it seems like that’s what the majority want) then we have to live with the terrible play that comes with it.

  110. avatar Joe says:

Just let Gillies go out and fight again, Sim is the worst.

  111. avatar Ron says:

Reese makes me miss Rich Pilon

  112. avatar Ray's Team says:

reese having a gervais moment there

  113. avatar MattyB says:

Dylan Reese, Bruno Gervais, Dustin Kohn….That’s hilarious as a defense. Wow

  114. avatar Lorne says:

Glad we picked this game not to show up. The last thing we wanted to do was give the Rangers some momentum back for their playoff chase.

  115. avatar Ray's Team says:

gordon should pull rollie-dont they have any mercy on him-no goalie should have to play behind this crap

  116. avatar tonti says:

I loved Richie Pilon!! I almost feel like the isles cashed it in for the first period. Maybe so the Rangers fans could see how goals look in 3-D?? maybe a token fight in 3-D?? Maybe I’m just a conspiracy theorist. Seems more like Islanders hockey in the second. Not good but competitive at least.

  117. avatar Joe says:

Bruno Gervais is the worst defensemen I have ever seen.

  118. avatar db says:

why is tavares out there with gillies and jackman

  119. avatar steve says:

Awful. I wouldn’t mind losing every game the rest of the way, but this sucks. Where’s Okposo, Bailey and Tavares? Not good.

  120. avatar Ron says:

Joe – have you seen Dylan Reese?

  121. avatar Crazy8 says:

No offense CB but you are the worst at picking winners. Every time you say one team will win for sure it seems they lose. Haha.

  122. avatar german islesfan says:

it looks they playing for a top three pick…
the only good thing tonight is Bridgeport leads 4:0 in the second.

  123. avatar Pritchett54 says:

Wouldn’t it just be amazing to add seguin hall or fowler to this team? It would be the last big step for this rebuild. Then next year we can add some veteran free agents and fight for a playoff spot. I want Taylor hall. Imagine hall bailey okposo with Tavares centering the 2nd line? Could happen.

  124. avatar Joe says:

    Hunter shouldve mashed Avery.

  125. avatar nyislanders93 says:

Gervais is a disgrace. Not only does he make awful turnovers every single game, he is the softest player I have ever watched. He lets Avery whack away at Roloson then gets shoved into Roloson on a shove by Avery. Please, grow a pair Bruno. Also, Hunter is also terrible. The energy tonight is extremely disappointing. Lets go Fowler!

  126. avatar Ray's Team says:

isles look like the bad news bears out there

  127. avatar ken says:

    even KO has been terrible.

  128. avatar MattyB says:

Hall, Fowler, or Seguin would not be the last big step for this teams rebuild. None of them have proven anything in the NHL, so why would their addition make this team anything special. It would certainly help. But there is a long way to go.

  129. avatar battfist says:

Im sorry to the Howie Rose fans but at times he can be just awful to listen to. How can he suggest Rolo’s save on Gaborik’s breakaway wasnt brillant?! Put the pads on Howie…

  130. avatar Hurting says:

    LOSE! LOSE! LOSE!

  131. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

SOG in 2nd 17-3 Rags. Must have been a helluva speech by Flash.

  132. avatar therain93 -- terriers fan says:

    13 shots in two periods….ouch…

  133. avatar Tony F. says:

It’s amazing to me how awful this team is playing against a rival, they should all hand in their uniforms and forfeit the rest of the season, this is just embarrassment on top of an embarrassing season. Gordon should take full responsibility.

  134. avatar IslesNation says:

This is why I can’t blame some fans for wanting to lose out and assure a top 3 pick. There is just so much more work to be done. Sure I would have loved to win this game and all but eliminate the Rags, but let’s be honest, they’ll do that on their own, we need to worry about making the Islanders a better team and after watching the first two periods, that means adding another young player that can contribute offensively. And oh yeah, sign a few decent defensemen Garth, if Bruno is back next year, and I am fully expecting it, Garth should be roasted on a stick.

  135. avatar No Heart says:

Avery drives Khon’s head into the ice and the Isles do nothing! This bothers me more than losing. No heart! Until that changes it won’t matter who they draft.

  136. avatar Ray's Team says:

its sad but the rangers goat rozsival, if he was on our team he would be our 3rd best defensemen

  137. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Gillies is refreshing and Roloson deserves to be on a better team.
    Pathetic, pathetic game.
    Unbelievable.

  138. avatar Matt Scordato says:

Can’t wait for Rob Carlin’s post game w/ Gordon

  139. avatar jim says:

apparently showing up at the game was optional too!
Wife said it best “too sad to watch”

  140. avatar ecairns says:

Its pretty sad that the isles arent playing with any intensity when they are being beatdown on the scoreboard and their players are being knocked out of the game.

  141. avatar tonti says:

yup sad. no fight .. no offense. Don’t know where the isles were tonight but it wasn’t at MSG

  142. avatar MattyB says:

Will Carlin even interview Gordon, they’ve interviewed two Rangers in the intermission on an Islanders telecast, why not keep it going and just interview Torts.

  143. avatar Chris A says:

I agree this is too sad to watch…just getting outclassed and outhussled

  144. avatar John says:

I don’t know why everybody is so critical of this team. They are near the top of the league in just about every category.Goals for,Goals against,PP,PK.Oh i’m sorry,my bad.I was looking at the paper upside down.

  145. avatar Jay L says:

i try not to be too negative with this team because i understand its a rebuild and the limited talent on the team. but ive watched every game this year and i feel this is he worst game ive seen. They are playing with no Heart against your biggest rival….

  146. avatar Ray's Team says:

oh my god-thank u comeau-sign of life from someone other than gillies

  147. avatar Islesrock says:

    Pathetic, gutless-rebuild or no rebuild.

  148. avatar No Heart says:

    Embarrassing! nothing more to say!

  149. avatar Staten Islander says:

This is REALLY tough to watch, and oh yeah…KILL AVERY

  150. avatar LES says:

well as usual ,…..we got the draft right ?

  151. avatar LES says:

    1940 4 ever

  152. avatar marc says:

This is terrible hockey….. i don’t even think the islanders made the trip…… i feel bad for all the season ticketholders…. this is not worth the admission to a free movie screening….. tomm the Fire Gordon….. Fire Snow Chants should start

  153. avatar ziggymeup says:

No life at all from the drop of the puck, makes no sense… If you want to go after Avery and get kicked out, please make it worth it, pummel him to the end..

  154. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Ugh….that was brutal. Worst game of the year in my opinion.

  155. avatar Ray's Team says:

rangers shouldnt feel too proud against this gutless team

  156. avatar marc says:

Does Gordon blow off the postgame interview….. He should come out and say he quits….. Someone get that message to him….. come out and quit Gordon…. your system does not work…..

  157. avatar Pritchett54 says:

I really like having an enforcer on the team. At the very least on a night where we stink, at least gillies showed some emotion and got some cheap shots in on Avery.

  158. avatar dmen77 says:

Terrible to watch but this game meant absolutely nothing to us but self-pride. You never want to see an effort like this from a team you root for but the bottomline is the 2 points meant more to the Rags (still won’t get them in) more than it meant to us.

Get to the bottom 3 and draft Seguin or Hall. The last two games shows we need Seguin or Hall before Fowler, but defemse needs to be Plan A, B, C, D, E and F during the UFA season.

  159. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

It’s one thing to lose and another to simply not show up. The Isles did the latter tonight. I just hope the players are as embarrassed as we are.

Could be another ugly one tomorrow in terms of being pushed around. The Flames are a pretty physical team that is desperate for points. Maybe we can draft a few more smurf defenders in this years entry draft. (shakes head)

  160. avatar gary says:

Glad i have Verizon so I didn’t have to see that crap in 3D or HD….we suck.

also, what a lame ass interview with no balls post game…

  161. avatar Staten Islander says:

And so begins the Fall for Hall

  162. avatar nhl fan says:

Had to turn the TV off before the end…unwatchable…Not to worry with the extra money from parking I’m sure Snow is going to be buying this summer.

  163. avatar marc says:

163…… its going to be hard to buy if no one goes to the games….. the rest of the season the islanders and the barn would be likely if they get 5000 fans to show up…..

  164. avatar Hollywood says:

I don’t know about the players but I’m embarrassed for me and them. What the hell happened! During their TO Gordon’s head looked like it was going to explode. I haven’t seen him that frustrated. The only positive from this game is that Roloson didn’t get hurt. What a shame!!!!!!!!

  165. avatar marc says:

165…..still early on that…. and we might have lost another d-men….. witt is going to be hard to get pass re-entry waivers

  166. avatar Jay says:

Almost lost it watching bruno politely remove avery from rolloson’s grill. Kept it on till the 3rd goal and couldn’t take anymore. Had more entertaining things to take care of like my taxes. Thankfully, I wasn’t able to see John Sim in 3D, but we can bet on Bruno Gervais bobblehead opener come october.

Fall for Hall and turn this thing upside down Snow.
Wish I only had to make a handful of decisions plus a no brainer for two years to retain my job.
Keep JT, KO, Bailey, Comeau, Bergs, Streit, Hillen, Amac and Rolli. The rest can’t depart any quicker. Ship gervais off for a puckbag and tell DP to retire.

Don’t make us watch this garbage next year.
    This simply isn’t NHL hockey.

  167. avatar boss15 says:

The whole thing with Kohn was odd, he must have been fazed by the hit when he went down flat on his chest and face. Hopefully he just had the wind knocked out of him and not a concussion. The number of injuries this season is already ridiculous…
