Welcome to the final in-game commentary of the season.

  2. avatar steve says:

Lets go Pens.. Get us a lottery ball!

  3. avatar admin says:

Thank you to anyone who participates or just drops by, and thank you for checking out the blog this season. After a good year one, readership has grown in leaps and bounds this season.

  4. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

CB, Any insight on why Mauldin is the call-up for tonight?

  5. avatar steve says:

how does rob carlin have a job?

  6. avatar Ajax says:

NHL channel just went out … perfect

  7. avatar 318J1 says:

    Lets Go Islanders ! ! !!!

  8. avatar IslesAl says:

CB thanks for the great coverage. Hope your terrific website is able to continue next year!

  9. avatar Ray says:

Mauldin is being rewarded for being Bridgeport’s best player this year. He’ll be in Lowell tomorrow to play for Bridgeport. It’s probably the most important game BPT will play this year because they are fighting Lowell for a playoff spot.

  10. avatar Jim Clark says:

When does MSG assign Ron Duguay to do the between periods stuff for the Islanders?

  11. avatar Staten Islander says:

Lets give a valiant effort and lose 6-5 with JT, MM and KO getting goals. And CB, it is I who should be thanking YOU for keeping Pointblank alive.

  12. avatar admin says:

Pete Stemkowski was unavailable, so they went with Butchie for sideline analysis.

  13. avatar admin says:

Thanks, Staten Islander. Very kind of you to say.

  14. avatar Barry says:

Should and would the Isles entertain Iginla if he waived his no movement clause? Just curious. Bergenheim, have we seen this late season crap before?

  15. avatar Ajax says:

is this blocked out on NHL network in our area or is my Fios just screwed up?

  16. avatar Czerkawski21 says:

NYI Point Blank, the BEST site for your Isles News

  17. avatar admin says:

I can’t picture Iginla waiving his no-move to play here.

  18. avatar TigerWoody says:

Comeau gets hurt > What else is new in Islander country

  19. avatar chrism says:

cb-i think matt martin is very good-get a bit nervous that he does not get called up-do u believe he will be on this team next year?

  20. avatar Barry says:

When do the Isles attract players like him?

  21. avatar Jim Clark says:

Did the Penguins ask for the Islanders for the last regular season game thinking it was the best chance to close the Igloo with a win?

  22. avatar Ajax says:

Can we talk draft picks yet Botts?

  23. avatar Staten Islander says:

Damn, Trots still looks wrong in a Pens jersey, they never should have let him go

  24. avatar Jim Clark says:

Trottier with the Cup. I remember Chris Russo slamming him when he left the Islanders, saying no one was interested in what he had to say.

  25. avatar admin says:

Ajax, you’re welcome to discuss anything you’d like. It’s just so wide open whether the Islanders are picking 2-7 that it’s tough to zero in until after the lottery.

  26. avatar hale78 says:

to post 19 martin is play great in bport…starting to rack up some points as well..i wouldn’t worry about mauldin is getting rewarded for being the sound tigers mvp

  27. avatar admin says:

Too funny that MSG is turning this broadcast into a nostalgia trip, but gave the assignment to Kenny over Kenneth.

  28. avatar Patrick says:

Any truth to the rumor that Islanders legend Joe Day will be returning to taking over as president.

  29. Wow! Anyone hearing this Ray Ferraro interview being replayed on the radio right now? 93 really seems so so long ago.
I miss hearing this kind of grit.

I even re-watched this game a couple of weeks ago. Amaxzing to see how much guts the team showed. I can only hope that team persona becomes a part of our future.

  30. avatar brian in AZ says:

thank you NHL network, i can actually watch an Islander game

  31. avatar Froggy says:

CB – can you comment on the movement of Paul Lancey to the team and if that is a signal towards the death knell of the LP?

  32. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I’m stuck with the Pens broadcast. :(

  33. avatar brian in AZ says:

    ha that didn’t take long

  34. avatar admin says:

    1-0 Pens, 23 seconds in.

  35. avatar Reese in Chelsea says:

I’m loath to talk about the Kenny Albert curse, but man…I was writing, before the gaol about wanting to see Richard Park play again before the season’s over. His grit and effort game in and out have been a pleasure to watch.

  36. avatar brian in AZ says:

    tambellini sighting

  37. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

id love to see a laying out of cindy crosby or malkin by freddy meyer

  38. avatar TigerWoody says:

Wow can we get Jeff Carter

  39. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

    oh crap-gervais sighting

  40. avatar brian in AZ says:

    anddddddd 2-0

  41. avatar admin says:

    2-0 Pitt, Goligoski.

  42. avatar brian in AZ says:

biron has no chance out there

  43. avatar Staten Islander says:

Off to a good start tonight

  44. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

biron-m\maybe one game too many-swiss cheese

  45. avatar admin says:

I’m thinkin’ this could be the shortest game chat in history.

  46. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

    jackman+cage=useless

  47. avatar Reese in Chelsea says:

Think Gordo needs a straw boater to go with his tie.

  48. avatar Islesphan25 says:

There is no way the Isles win this….These are games that Pens have circled as a must win since its the last reg. season game here. Just like when Radar coached, you knew the Isles were going to win…

  49. avatar VinnyMoose says:

You know it’s a long night when Scott Gordon’s tie stands as the moment of the night from an Isles perspective.

  50. avatar Reese in Chelsea says:

    Missing Park on the PK

  51. avatar TuxTax says:

CB, Thanks for keeping PB alive and well for another year, and here’s hoping for many years to come! Question: Do the Isles pick a Defenseman or a Forward with their first pick in your opinion?

  52. avatar Islesphan25 says:

    CB….Thanks for a great blog this year….

Also are you a Phish fan? Have seen you make reference in the past in articles

  53. avatar brian in AZ says:

moulson making a push for 30. 2-1 pens

  54. avatar admin says:

    Moulson goal, 2-1.

  55. avatar 7th Woman says:

Good evening! I seriously wish they had put Roloson in net. I liked Marty’s winning record.

And Matty gets #28!!! He is running out of time to get to 30 and he says I jinxed him… he’s wrong. :o )

  56. avatar Reese in Chelsea says:

Love these kids. JT with a few years and pounds is going to be scary with those hands. Matty Mo has been great to watch this season

  57. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

#51-they should ONLY take a defensmen if he is a beast-no more of these 5 foot nothing’s

  58. avatar Bob says:

How do Jackman, Gillies and Mouldin all get a chance to play over Tambellini? Moulson scores! Can he get 30?

  59. avatar Patrick says:

How much will Moulson cost to re-sign?

  60. avatar admin says:

    (51) Tux: Don’t mean to sound like I’m copping out, but it really depends on where they pick. If it’s 4-6, I can see them going for one of the two top D.

  61. avatar gary says:

CB – thanks for this outlet. Lord knows, it’s the only one we diehards really have.
This franchise really needs to take a look at a lot of things, including the on ice product, the (lack of) coverage on TV, radio, and print, and of course their building. But IT’S AN ABSOLUTE EMBARRASSMENT that Jiggs isn’t there with Howie’s absence. I can’t listen to this. I’d rather watch on mute….Kenny Albert to me means Rangers. What disrespect. The Isles need to get away from MSG Network as FAST as they can….

Then maybe I can see an HD game too….Everyone in the country can watch this game in HD (NHL NETWORK) accept Fios customers….how sad…..Cablevision is greed…

  62. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

at least i have the mets to look forward to ALL summer longgggggg…by next hockey season i will probably be in AA

  63. avatar AM says:

Say we get get a pick between 4-7, any chance we trade up for 1/2?? Cost to much for that move?

  64. avatar admin says:

    (52) Phan: I like Phish, but not in a following them around in a camper sort of way.

  65. avatar Johnnyjet says:

Any DP sightings or news? Just a rumour I heard possibility of a buyout and how much of a cap hit if he retired instead?

  66. avatar 7th Woman says:

it doesn’t matter what Moulson will cost. If they don’t sign him again I will be exceptionally unhappy. (besides… I’ve already ordered the #26 for my necklace)

  67. avatar Ajax says:

CB – just seem to me that the draft rankings (the players, not the teams) are all over the place and changing a lot, even more so than last years. Perhaps its just me.

  68. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

cb-gun to your head-is gillies on this team next year?

  69. avatar admin says:

    (59) The simplest way to sign Moulson would be to sign him for just one more season. As a restricted FA, he doesn’t have much leverage. If the team wants to go long-term, it will cost them more to buy some UFA years. Should be interesting. I can see Matt giving them a partial discount because of his loyalty and connection to Tavares.

  70. avatar Czerkawski21 says:

CB this may seem personal but you mentioned you grew up in hicksville, did you go to hix high?

  71. avatar michele says:

    thanks for this site, cb,

  72. avatar keith says:

50 points for Tavares, nice round #!

  73. avatar admin says:

Gary: Ultimately, the team has to win, but yes – the franchise needs to have some more pride when it comes to a lot of matters.

  74. avatar Izzy Franchise says:

Hey CB…Is there any possible way Garth Snow trades up or down this year in the Draft? Also….what’s Darren Anderson up to these day? lol

  75. avatar admin says:

7th Person: you survived Blake, you will survive Bergenheim, you’ll be back if Moulson isn’t around in a year or two.

  76. avatar keith says:

Chris, who is your favorite current Islander?

  77. avatar adam m says:

Thanks CB love the blog its the first place i come for my islander news lets make the playoffs next year!

  78. avatar admin says:

    Malkin, 3-1.

  79. avatar admin says:

Czerkawski: Yes, I went to Hicksville High.

  80. avatar paulyp says:

did guys just see that! I want a player like that!I saw okposo do it like 3 times in the preseason, and a couple of times throghout the year but that is about as close as we get

  81. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

its been a while since an enforcer like gillies(kenny belanger like)-a few times i have seen him take some shots at guys after whistle-and no one goes and challenges him-we need that here-everyone does it to our small guys

  82. avatar admin says:

Keith: I’m fond of all the current Islanders players as people except for one. It’s a very good group.

  83. avatar admin says:

    Okposo goal, 3-2.

  84. avatar Jim Clark says:

    Not much defense tonight.

  85. avatar paulyp says:

I retract my previous statement HAHA

  86. avatar JT says:

I’m surprised Sam Rosen isn’t working this game (sarcasm). What was MSG thinking here? Awful.

  87. avatar keith says:

would love to no who the “one” is
But i meant player on the ice to watch and root for

  88. avatar 7th Woman says:

Of course you’re right. But no one has really taken the place of #55. I keep waiting, but no one has that energy or tenacity.

  89. avatar admin says:

    Gillies knocks down Rupp, 10-9.

  90. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

    wow-im getting a gillies jersey-love him

  91. avatar Bob says:

    Tambellini is in. My mistake.

  92. avatar Isles 420 says:

terrible fight too short. gillies won so yay

  93. avatar Patrizio says:

Hi CB.. Where do you see yourself in a year. Most likely you’ll be too busy for this blog. Will you have anybody take it over? Though, I think you bring out the best in this blog. But will this blog go on at all? the season is coming to an end and I’m getting a bit emotional that I won’t have this blog to have morning coffee with and my mid day snack with. I just love this blog!

  94. avatar admin says:

    Crosby’s 49th, 4-2.

  95. avatar Islander505 says:

    5 minutes each for fighting?
    More like coincidental interference.

  96. avatar Isles 420 says:

ok down by 2 again you guys can score again

  97. avatar Dan says:

wh is that not an interference call

  98. avatar Bob says:

Biron can’t start the 2nd period!

  99. avatar Patrick says:

    That was interference!

  100. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

    shotty officiating all year long

  101. avatar Ajax says:

    Bye Bye Biron

  102. avatar admin says:

Keith: I don’t think I can pick out a personal favorite player to watch, because I still know many of them from the old job. Okay, I’ll go with Matt Martin.

  103. avatar 7th Woman says:

I say Crosby gets his 50th tonight for sure.

  104. avatar Dan says:

crosby is awesome but it is like the jordan rules

  105. avatar Izzy Franchise says:

I say my question won’t get answered. lol

Hey 7th…Blake is wayyy old news…how bout putting your stock into Mr. KO?

  106. avatar admin says:

Patrizio: I really appreciate the sincerity, but we’re getting way ahead of ourselves. I don’t have any plans to end the blog. There could be an offseason hiatus during slow times so I can refresh, and trying to follow what’s going on in China will be pointless, but I expect to be around.

  107. avatar Ajax says:

CB, if you were the GM, what UFAs on the team do you keep?

  108. avatar Mike from Oceanside says:

CB – Not sure if you knew, but Kinger had a nice piece on the radio pre-game recapping some Isles history at the Igloo. They played the TV audio from the 92-93 game 7 OT win (Volek’s goal) and followed that up with (what I feel was the best) post game interview between Fischler and Ray Ferraro.

  109. avatar Dan says:

cb why do we not hear much about #18 E.W.

  110. avatar admin says:

Izzy: Garth has made few deals of any impact since the Smyth trade, but has traded down and then up in the last two drafts. Of course, you cannot rule a move out.

  111. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

Where have I been to miss the Phish references? CB, maybe see you at the Jones Beach shows this summer. On to hockey, do you think Roli will be in goal for the second period? That would make sense to me.

  112. avatar 7th Woman says:

Izzy: Kyle doesn’t need me. I go for the underdogs. Kyle is a stud. He doesn’t need my promo. Hmmm… maybe Robbie does. #13 isn’t ALWAYS unlucky!

  113. avatar Patrizio says:

Thank you CB… How much are rooting for Moulson to reach 30 goals? Hopefully!! I can’t remember when the Islanders had a 30 goal scorer.. seriously who was it?

  114. avatar keith says:

I thought the Matt Martin answer was the best until you said “I don’t have any plans to end the blog”

  115. avatar admin says:

Ajax: I’d bring back Meyer as a 6-7 dman and consider Gillies if they don’t get Shawn Thornton. Everyone else I would wish well.

  116. avatar Ajax says:

    Agreed

  117. avatar Izzy Franchise says:

I agree CB…but I was kinda hoping more for the Darren Anderson info. LOL

    7th: Not a bad choice ;)

  118. avatar steve says:

rob carlin is such a cheeseball

  119. avatar IHB_NICK says:

CB- What do you think the Isles will add to their lineup next season?

  120. avatar Ajax says:

Then, after you cut Yashin his 4.75 million dollar check, what RFAs would you keep?

  121. avatar DoubleW says:

Hello CB – With Kabanov dropping to 31, do you really see him going in the 2nd round? and his latest quote wanting to play somewhere warm… anywhere is warm compared to Russia…except Edmonton. would be great to see him go to Phoenix and then the much rumored (but never to happen) move back to Winnipeg were to happen

  122. avatar admin says:

Nick: I don’t get into that guessing stuff for July in April. I saw on Katie’s chat today that she sees the Islanders getting a Joe Corvo type, Chris Higgins type and Moose Hedberg type. I hope they aim for higher types.

  123. avatar Yippy Yappe Uwe says:

Nice, Carolina up 2-0, TB up 3-0, and FLA tied 1-1. If FLA and TB win tonight, it will be interesting to see what happens this weekend. I don’t see any way Columbus will pull ahead of the Isles.

  124. avatar dedshark says:

Patrizio…blake had 40 goal in 2006 when they made the playoffs

  125. avatar admin says:

    (120) Ajax: Easy. Bergenheim, Schremp and Moulson come back. Bye to Tambellini. The minor league guys, if they come back, get 2-way deals.

  126. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

In a recent piece for SI, Michael Farber talked about wanting to see the end of the current draft lottery format. Under his proposal the order of the 14 non-playoff teams would come via a random draw.
It would certainly make life easier for the fans as there would be no incentive to root for losses. It would also end any thought of teams tanking.
    What are your thoughts?

  127. avatar pat devlin says:

General Question: hope the Isles leave MSG when the contract ends I am sick of no HD hockey except Versus

  128. avatar Hud says:

CB, Can you say why Biron keeps playing when he is done as an Isle in a few games and Roloson is the Isles goalie next season? Does not make much sense to me. I know he has played well, but, he will not be an Isle next season.

  129. avatar ken says:

Chris, you owe me a game in the pressbox. we bet before the season started, that Moulson would have more goals then malkin this year.

  130. avatar Jim Clark says:

Where is that “appearance this year by Rick DiPietro” that Snow talked about a couple weeks ago?

  131. avatar Ajax says:

when does the contract end w/ msg? I’m sure they enjoy the Fios wrap around the barn.

  132. avatar Chris Mc says:

Who wouldve thought when Schremp and Weights seasons ended, Bailey’s would have too. With JT, Robbie, and Franzy on this team I dont know why they moved Josh back to center, injuries or not.

  133. avatar dedshark says:

pat devlin…what service do u have u dont get HD channels…i’ve watched almost every game in HD

  134. avatar Patrizio says:

dedshark.. I thought it was Blake, but I was hoping it happened later as well.

  135. avatar bmac says:

I think Miro Satan was the last isle to score 30+
As for this summer I want to see the Isles make an offer to Kovalchuk. Not saying I want him here but I do want to see how serious Wang and Snow are about spending money.

  136. avatar dedshark says:

that was the save of the year

  137. avatar JohnGalt says:

Carolina and Tampa winning – draft position may be improving after tonight.

  138. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

Oh my, what a group of saves!

  139. avatar Ron says:

Since isles are not on center ie tonight and I live in Tampa I am watching the bolts vs sens. Mike SMith bolts goalie just got into a fight w/ Neil….. AWESOME

  140. avatar admin says:

Great saves by Fleury, but Frans also blew it.

  141. avatar Chris Mc says:

Its asking a lot for either team from Florida to pass us since we hold the tiebreaker. We’re better off just hoping Carolina and Columbus can pass us and at least we’ll get a chance at sniffing #1

  142. avatar 7th Woman says:

but Frans will get one back. He deserves it. Hard work HAS to pay off doesn’t it???

  143. avatar Patrizio says:

I think if it wasn’t for Frans, there wouldn’t have been any chance at all.

  144. avatar Isles Fan says:

CB, any hint as to who the “one” player is?

  145. avatar Chris Mc says:

haha i wanted to know too Isles Fan but theres no way CB spills the beans with that one

  146. avatar Chris Mc says:

CB are you going to get to travel for Fanhouse to cover the playoffs? That in itself must make the job more than worth it.

  147. avatar Isles Fan says:

    hmmmm.

  148. avatar Jersey Steve says:

CB,you say you are fond of all of the current players as people except one. I don’t expect you to name names, but why don’t you like one of them?

  149. avatar dedshark says:

wow the youth core is scoring all night. get JT and frans one too

  150. avatar admin says:

Isles make it 4-3. The Jaff is gonna get worked up. Joshua with the tally.

  151. avatar MT says:

You shouldn’t hinted that now we all want to know! Haha

  152. avatar DeHaamonic says:

CB – Thanks for a great year at both PB and Fanhouse. Who do you think gets the final two spots in the East?

  153. avatar Ajax says:

I was just looking into the Isles cable contract. Here is what I found … In 1996 the team extended its contract from 2012 to 2030. The contract was completed by one John Spano. Guess I’ll keep digging on this one.

  154. avatar admin says:

It’s for the same reason why you wouldn’t like someone in your life: I think he’s a bit of a jackass so I don’t deal with him. That’s okay. One out of 20-plus players is a damn good ratio. Plenty of people think I’m a jackass, too. No biggie.

  155. avatar MattyB says:

gritty isles effort tonight. Biron starting tonight struck me as odd. What did Rollie do to deserve the extended bench spot?

  156. avatar Joe NYC says:

unrelated question, why don’t you sell advertising space on this site? there has to be some demand (local?) with the amount of readers…?

  157. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

KO-needs to drop the gloves with someone

  158. avatar admin says:

Chris Mc: yes, I’ll be on the road for some big playoff games for FanHouse starting with the second round. Probably be on Rangers or Devils first round. Really looking forward to it. I think I do a better job on the road. Like the coaches say, less distractions.

  159. avatar dedshark says:

ajax…extended it to 2030? Maybe it was his idea about the DP contract too lol

  160. avatar Chris Mc says:

I dunno CB, theres some pretty good work on this site and Im sure thats from home. Hopefully Boston wins tonight and Philly takes one from the Rangers so you can be on Devil detail instead of following the Rags.

  161. avatar Patrizio says:

    SIM

  162. avatar admin says:

Through 2 periods, good early returns tonight on lottery games.

  163. avatar Ajax says:

    (159) – yea, i just found another site with the same info, that contract has to be null and void (like Spano) I would think.

  164. avatar FLAnatic says:

Pitt announcers are calling Frans Nielsen “Hillen”. Have done it twice now talking about how he takes faceoffs.

They also mentioned earlier in the broadcast how the Isles and other teams in the NHL are using the Penguins style of play from last season because they won the cup.

  165. And I, a local business owner would be very interested in paying for a small ad, nothing to large and distracting from the text, which I’m sure would be a concern of yours.

  166. avatar admin says:

    Thank you, Signtific.

  167. avatar Hud says:

flanatic, watching the same feed, I was laughing when they talked about Hillen on the faceoff, you would think they would do some homework. Jaffe and Howie, let’s not take them for granted, re-sign Jaffe!

  168. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

At the very least this game is entertaining and full of cool trivia … Would be much better if Jiggs was sharing some stories with us.

  169. avatar Frans Dish says:

CB what do you think Frans Nielsen’s full potential could be?

  170. avatar 318J1 says:

for anybody coming to the game sunday bring any confetti and balloons you can get you hands on for the last minute remaining…lets have some fun!

  171. avatar admin says:

    5-3 Pitt.

  172. avatar Potvin's Cups says:

#157…It always seems as if KO is reluctant to drop the gloves. Not sure why.

  173. avatar Chris A says:

High scoring games like this remind me of the 93 series. Any special stories you have of that series?

  174. avatar Madchef says:

here comes the can of whoopa$$

  175. avatar admin says:

    6-3 Pens.

  176. avatar 318J1 says:

eh i really didnt want to see sid get his 50th tonight… …well we got our way vs penguins on Arbour 1500/740 night so ill live

  177. avatar Chris S says:

    More solid D by Bruno.

  178. avatar Battfist says:

CB-are you going to eat crow that you were wrong about Matt Moulson?

  179. avatar Crackhead Theo says:

Chris….Lighthouse, whats the deal? Anything at all? Some tidbit of info? SOMETHING?!?!?!?

Thanks again for the great blog as always.

  180. avatar admin says:

Frans Dish: 20-35-55 plus everything else he brings to the table sounds right if Frans peaks in his prime years.

  181. avatar Joe NYC says:

’93…Rich Pilon beating down Lemioux…that was awesome

  182. avatar Joe NYC says:

    sorry that was kasper

  183. avatar Terry19 says:

They cant keep Bruno, can they? Really CB?

  184. avatar Doug says:

Well, the win streak comes to an end. This is good folks, this is good. I love wins, but not when they’re meaningless and you can have a better player at the draft. I just wish I didn’t have to listen to these Pens announcers. I thought Jaffe was a homer…

  185. avatar Terry19 says:

pen announcers are THE WORST. Its a surprise they can pronounce words with that amount of Sid’s A$$ they have in there mouths.

  186. avatar admin says:

Battfist: you’re welcome to be more specific. You mean, when the NYI gave him minimum wage on a 2-way contract, I didn’t think he’d score 28 NHL goals? Well then yes, ya got me there!

  187. avatar Ajax says:

Can we sign that dude that won the car at the barn last week, he is a SNIPER!!!

  188. avatar 7th Woman says:

I thought the Pens would get to 7, I may have to change that to 10.

  189. avatar GE of GN says:

I can’t watch Trent Hunter anymore. He takes forever to wind up that big slap shot, giving the defense just enough time to get to him and block it. If he does manage to get a shot off, it goes wide. And he’s always in the wrong spot to handle a rebound. Sim has looked better than he has.

  190. avatar admin says:

I’ll see you in a few minutes. Thanks for hangin’.

  191. avatar bmac says:

What UFAs if any do you see the isles making serious offers to this summer?

  192. avatar Isles Fan says:

My guess is the “one” player would be either Sim or Witt.

  193. avatar Bryan says:

CB – Couldnt get in hear earlier. Hoping you could answer a question for me since I know it is off topic.

At the start of the season what were reasonable expectations for Figren and DiBienedetto? Are their seasons considered disappointments and can they still be considered legitimate NHL prosepects?

Thanks a lot I aprectiate it.

  194. avatar Julie says:

    3-1 Florida

  195. avatar Staten Islander says:

Trent Hunter on the ice with a kid, thats about his talent level. I’ve pretty much had it with him too

  196. avatar Tony F. says:

What a relief to have Bruno going through the motions on defense again, I thought we might come back and win this one.
Seriously the guy has got to go.

  197. avatar JT says:

Chris: Does the NHL use wins as a standings tie breaker? The reason I ask is b/c Tampa, Florida, and the Isles will have 78 points if Tampa/Fla win out and the Isles loses their last two games. However, the Isles will have 1 more win. Looks like the best we can hope for is for Carolina and Columbus to pass us in the standings.

  198. avatar Ajax says:

    Bobby Ny is the MAN

  199. avatar Daryl says:

    3-3 Ott TB.

  200. avatar Julie says:

The Pens better save some goals for Sunday

  201. avatar Czerkawski21 says:

I can gladly say that I went to the same high school as Chris Botta and Billy Joel

  202. avatar Ajax says:

    down goes bailey

  203. avatar WM says:

So Bailey gets crushed along the boards and no Islander sticks up for him.

  204. avatar db says:

wow that win/loss against montreal on tuesday is looming large for lottery fans. if all games end where they are now we would be tied for 3rd with tb and florida with them both playing each other in their final 2 games. meanwhile we play nj and pitt. instead we are in the 6th spot. honestly im disgusted!!!

  205. avatar Battfist says:

KO-way to stick up for Bailey….

  206. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Tampa Bay finished with nine straight losses last season and is 5-15-1 in its last 21 games this season. And a team gets rewarded for that?

  207. avatar Merrick says:

Is that any different than the hit by Sutton?

  208. avatar Madchef says:

someone needs to pay for that cheapshot…..gillies please

  209. avatar 7th Woman says:

It looked like Biron wanted to go back out on the ice to get Poni.

  210. avatar Ajax says:

That organ music is HORRID !!!!

  211. avatar Madchef says:

honestly in a 7-3 game how does KO not clock the pony?

  212. avatar JT says:

How about sticking up for Bailey? Somebody should have pounded Poni. Weak!!!

  213. avatar admin says:

Poni could miss Sunday’s game. 7-3, by the way.

  214. avatar WM says:

    ‘Csnes knock off the Habs.

  215. avatar Julie says:

    4-2 Carolina 1 minute left

  216. avatar admin says:

Bryan: by any standards, the seasons of Figren and Dibo were very poor.

  217. avatar Ray says:

Jeez if Crosby scores shorthanded here, I will punch a koala!

  218. avatar Battfist says:

CB – it was you who thought Moulson had no chance to even make the opening roster…. start the season in Bridgeport?

  219. avatar Ajax says:

    Gillies should pound Sid

  220. avatar JT says:

Why? Campbell will just blame Bailey for getting hit.

  221. avatar JoeRiverside says:

It’s situations like this that makes me wonder if Okposo is ready to be captain. He needs to stick up for his team mates.

  222. avatar Merrick says:

Of the many things that have been hard to watch this, the PP is most nauseating.

  223. avatar Ajax says:

why is nobody on the pp facing the friggin net?

  224. avatar Bryan says:

Is there anyone in the Islanders system not currently on the NHL team that you expect the isles to have penciled in on their NHL depth chart for next season?

  225. avatar Staten Islander says:

One thing is for sure, tonight we’re seeing the talent level difference between us and the Pens. Ok, I’m Captain Obvious

  226. avatar admin says:

Oh, then bad on me, Batt. Matt Moulson just doesn’t belong in the eat crow category. Sorry. Just about the whole league passed on him. Let’s not get crazy now.

  227. avatar Ajax says:

    (224) – Matt Martin

  228. avatar isles316 says:

CB, how good could Koskinen and Poulin be. I remember you have written about them before and with Koskinen barely playing this season that’s a tough call but could either one of them be a #1 goalie in the next 3 years say?

  229. avatar Julie says:

    Panthers win

  230. avatar Battfist says:

KO proved this year he is not ready to be captain. I agree with those who side with Mark Streit wearing the C.

  231. avatar Upstate Islander says:

Watched some you tube of 93 playoffs vs Pens. Then I had to look up the Washington series. It made me so angry to watch the cheap shot again. Ah what could have been.

  232. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

bailey hit was the perfect time for KO to has his first scrap-and he failed-there goes the captaincy as far as im concerned..

  233. avatar Battfist says:

    Fair point

  234. avatar Ajax says:

    (230) – according to the lame Isles TV spot, its Bailey that is “the vocal leader”. Or something like that.

  235. avatar isles316 says:

If you have a guy like Streit who will be here for 3 more years, there is no reason to have Okposo be captain yet in my opinion. Let him be captain when he turns 24.

  236. avatar admin says:

You can always count on the Panthers to blow their draft position.

  237. avatar isles316 says:

Part of the reason why the Isles drafted Bailey was because of his leadership reputation. He was on the jr. team with Ted Nolan’s son where the young played died in the middle of the season. They say Bailey took that team on his back emotionally.

  238. avatar Walt says:

I had the same idea about the draft lottery as the S.I. writer. This would end tanking, sorry Lightning fans. I also had an idea about the shootout where players names would be chosen at random instead of being selected by the coaches.
This is a team game and I believe everyone should be available to do the shootout instead of the same three players
You could limit this list to just the forwards if you wanted. Imagine Gillies on the shootout if he were selected.

  239. avatar The Ice Man says:

CB, it’s been awhile since I have had the chance to chime in on an in-game chat, but just want to thank you for this blog. It is my favorite source for Isles info, which is tough to come by where I live (Napa, CA). I hope you keep it going and it generates a nice profit for you in the near future!

  240. avatar WM says:

Definitely agree that Okposo should NOT be the captain. Worst plus/minus on the team, won’t get to 20 goals, and he’s a wimp.

  241. avatar Isles Fan says:

Tough listing to Kenny A. He is no Marv.

  242. avatar JT says:

Looks like Ridderwall had a nice season in SWE – 2.30 GAA .917 SV%. Think he ever comes over? He’s still only 22 years old.

  243. The future looks good imo is all I can say. I only hope they still around when they reach their full potential.

  244. avatar Staten Islander says:

CB, do you see them sending Hunter packing after this year?

  245. avatar admin says:

Thank you, Ice Man in Napa. It is all good.

  246. avatar scott says:

Can someone explain what happened with kyle? I havent been able to watch the game but always figured he wouldnt back down. But now all these comments……tell me aint so!!

  247. avatar Ferraro to Volek says:

CB: I don’t post that often but visit this site daily whether at work or home, and since this is the final in-game live chat of the season I just wanted to thank you for your terrific coverage of and insight into our beloved NYI and an overall phenomenal job. That also applies to your FanHouse columns. Your work is an absolute pleasure to read, and I truly envy the fact that this is how you make your living. Please keep up the excellent work.

  248. avatar Islesfan In Vancouver says:

the only real question for this chat at this point is if Josh Bailey is okay???

  249. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

did i say this already jackman+cage=useless

  250. avatar admin says:

    (248) Josh is fine. Thanks for defining what is the only “real” question.

  251. avatar admin says:

    Thank you, Ferraro to Volek.

  252. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

i liked the fact that Gillies made his presence known even if he had to leave the ice.

  253. avatar admin says:

Staten Islander: I don’t see another team trading for Trent with three seasons left on his deal at $2 mill per.

  254. avatar Isles fan in CA says:

First thing I look at when I log onto the net. Thanks CB for all your hard work and great insights.

  255. avatar mht says:

Chris I read your piece in Fanhouse last month when you covered the Venus Williams/Kim Clijsters match.Perhaps Fanhouse will assign you to cover the US Open at Flushing Meadows later this year?

  256. avatar Brother Rat says:

Has there ever been a less exciting home-and-home to end the season than this year’s Floria/Tampa Bay tilts? Each team’s fans should be openly rooting for the other team to win.

  257. avatar admin says:

Thanks Isles fan in CA. mht: FH has a really good tennis writer, but I may do some backup stuff. It’s not like I’ll be able to cover training camp! lol

  258. avatar 1972 means i'm old says:

235: Right on! Streit for captain is a no-brainer. Plays every game. Plays extra minutes. Mentors. Plays with intelligence. Loves the team. Lives on L.I. Leads a small Swiss squad (population 8M) into Olympic contention every four years. I’ve met and spoke to him a few times, and he’s a gentlemen and a competitor. Nothing against KO or JT, but they’re still kids…

  259. avatar Ferraro to Volek says:

CB: Thankfully the NYI are going back to the vintage royal blue jerseys next season but I haven’t heard or read anything about the “home” whites, any updates as to whether they will be changing those as well?

  260. avatar admin says:

They will have matching whites. They have to.

  261. avatar 7th Woman says:

yep… should have stayed with my first impression. well, at least Matt, Kyle and Josh added to their totals… okay, grasping at straws here. but, it’s what I do.

  262. avatar JT says:

    Chris, Team Canada for JT?

  263. avatar Madchef says:

lame 3rd period for isles, could at least take the body or stick up for bailey. oh well

  264. avatar admin says:

7-3 final. Goodnight, everyone. Thank you so much for taking part. Good stuff.

  265. avatar Frank nyc says:

still in the high lottery hunt! If we are picking top 6 then we are in good shape.

  266. avatar Isles Fan says:

Watching/listening to Kenny Albert has been like nails on a chalkboard.

  267. avatar WM says:

    Tampa beats Ottawa!

  268. avatar JoeRiverside says:

    Tampa Wins!

  269. avatar Doug says:

Completely disappointed in Okposo after the Bailey boarding… Common Assistant Captain STICK UP FOR YOUR TEAMMATE! Someone needs to knock some mean-ness into KO sooner or later.. softy.

  270. avatar CIsle says:

Got rocked… lack of depth evident tonight!

Oh well, good night for those hoping we’ll still have a shot at a top 5 spot in the draft lottery.

Wins for both FLA, CAR; TB with at least one point.

  271. avatar isles08025 says:

Thank you scott gotdon for putting trevor gillies on the ice in the last 2 minutes, that’s what i wanted

  272. avatar Nick says:

why is everyone bashing KO? poni was on his knees after the hit, what do u want KO to do, sucker punch him? if poni was on his skates KO would have went after him

  273. avatar Brother Rat says:

Yeah, we couldn’t have asked for anything more in terms of the lottery-related games. So, we’re still slightly in the running for the third-to-last place, assuming: a) we lose out; b) columbus beats Detroit to close it out; and c) Tampa & Florida split their last home-and-home by having each game going to OT/shootout. Could be worse…

  274. avatar Ari From Long Island says:

We need Columbus to win tomorrow and 3 points nights in the rest of the Tampa/Florida games!! And go Carolina!

  275. avatar db says:

heres how we get #3 pick

#1 lose out against nj and pitt very possible

#2 columbus gets a point against detroit very possible

#3 tamba bay and florida exchange overtime wins, each teams get 3 points almost impossible

i will be happy with #4 means getting gudbrandsen or fowler

  276. avatar sean says:

    Lets get a lighthouse solution

  277. avatar Glen S says:

Yeah I agree, come on KO you have to do more then pat him on the shoulder. That was as bad as Sutton’s hit, the Colon will give him 0 game’s.

  278. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

The scenario that Brother Rat lays out is a long shot. But at least it’s something. If only Gervais had’nt been injured…..

BTW, the Islanders are the only team in the NHL that has not come back to win a single game this season when trailing by two goals.

  279. avatar IsleFan73 says:

Really like KO, but he cannot stand there and do nothing after the Bailey hit. That’s not Captain material. Was it a real dirty play? No, but not sticking up for teammates is weak.

  280. avatar Grandpa Ray says:

KO gave pony a damn love tap for gods sake-very dissapointing(and yeah KO should have hit pony even if he was on his knees) imagine that whole play was the other way around-there would be bloodshed

  281. avatar Viper says:

Great night for the lotto. Keep it coming!

  282. avatar Jim Clark says:

And so the NHL says farewell to another historic (old) building. Meanwhile Gary Bettman on his radio show sings the praises of hockey games in century-old baseball parks.

  283. avatar anthony c says:

This is how I figure things could play out if the isles lose there last 2 games and are able to get a top 3 pick. If the top 3 end’s up being edmonton, tampa bay and the islanders, then whoever the oilers take of seguin or hall would then leave us one of them, and here is why. The lightning have nobody else on D that has youth and potential aside from Hedman. And since tampa’s biggest weakness is defense and goal tending that will leave them to take one of the top defensemen since they have a good amount of offense with Stamkos, St. Louis, and Lecavalier as there big guns, plus they have some good secondary scoring from their other forwards especially from Ryan Malone. So with that said, we can still have a shot at landing either Hall or Seguin as long as boston doesn’t get 2nd overall. And the blue jackets winning their final regular season game would help us a ton as well as carolina winning their final game. I hate rooting for the isles to lose, but one final high lottery pick could be what helps us be a stronger contender for a playoff spot next year and a stronger team for the long term.

  284. avatar Rob (in Pgh) says:

In the unlikely event that the Isles obtain a top 2 pick then it’s hard to pass on Seguin or Hall… but I hope they pick in the 3-5 realm and pick a top D-man. I believe that the 1 player who would make the largest positive change for the Isles is Gudbranson. He’s skilled but big, strong, and mean. He’s exactly what fans have been complaining about the Isles not having all season.

  285. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

anthony c, where does toronto (boston with the pick) fit into your scheme? the Isles will finish in fourth if they are lucky and carolina and florida win their remaining games. That means hall, seguin, and fowler all gone before we pick. Best case scenario has the isles up at the podium with Grubrandson or Gormley still on the board.

  286. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

When it comes to the lottery ping pong balls … The Isles have to hope for an unlikely Florida / Tampa OT split of both final games … then hope that Columbus wins their final game … also unlikely since they are playing the suddenly suring 8-1-1 in their last ten Red Wings. It’s actually more likely that the Isles can catch Carolina and drop out of the lottery for the #1 pick alltogether.

  287. avatar SneakyPete77 says:

Great night! All our young kids pick up a point. JT gets 50 pts as a 19 year old with no veteran fwd to help him on the ice. Canes, Panthers, and Lighting all pick up 2 pts. We lose. Devs and Pens are tied which means we will lose the next 2 games and hopefully move into the top 5. Top 5 means we have an outside shot at the #1 pick when the select the balls. Now, we need Moulson to get 30 and Kyle to get 20. They deserve it. Future looks bright. Hope we can bag Gudbranson at thedraft. This is the kid we need!

  288. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

Thanks Chris, most girls read beauty magazines, I prefer reading your blogs, they are addicting and always a good read. Don’t ever stop, please!!!

  289. avatar Michael says:

Which of the top ten prospects are NHL ready?

  290. avatar valenti says:

you ko bashers are all about instant gratification. he isnt going to just sucker punch the guy, especially since he is an assistant, he needs to be a smarter than to just wail on the guy. but w/ a guy like gillies i’m sure they won’t forget . . .still another game at the coliseum :)

  291. avatar anthony c says:

NYICHAMP39, I figured boston would end up at #4. Crazy things have happened before. We finished dead last almost 10 years ago for the 2nd straight season heading into the 2001 draft lottery and we got the 2nd overall pick while the thrashers who finished I believe 3rd worst in the league got the #1 pick and took kovalchuk. And also remember when the NHL had that huge lottery selection after the lockout ended, and florida had the worst collective record over a 5 year span which had them having the greatest chance at getting #1 pick to get crosby and ended up picking 28th in the 2005 draft. Like I said crazy things can happen.

  292. avatar Jzimm says:

Unless I”ve completely miscalculated; this is what we need in the closing weekend:

    - Columbus beats Detroit on Friday.
    - We lose our final two games.
    - Florida OR Tampa Bay sweeps the other.

… If these things happen, we are assured a top 5 pick. The best that we can possibly do at this point finish the season scheduled to pick 4th. The worst we can do is finish the season scheduled to pick 8th.

Don’t rule out the first pick. If we’re scheduled to pick 4th; the Washington Capitals were in that position 6 years ago and wound up with Ovechkin. If we’re scheduled to pick 5th, the Chicago Black Hawks were in that position 3 years ago and selected Patrick Kane. We were in that position 10 years ago, and selected Rick DiPietro (cringe!!)

I will be very surprised if the Edmonton Oilers retain the first pick. The law of averages suggests that a team other than the 30th place team is going to pick first this year.

I’m looking foward to Tuesday. I will be undescribably happy if we wind up with the first pick again… but I’m not holding my breath.

  293. avatar Jzimm says:

Lottery rules need to be cleared up; EVERY TEAM THAT DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE PLAYOFFS IS A LOTTERY TEAM. While only the teams who finish bottom five have a chance at the #1 pick, the team scheduled to pick 14th, for instance, can win the lottery and select 10th.

I do stand corrected on our best possible scenario, however, 19 Isle is absolutley right. If we lose what’s left, Tampa Bay and Florida can in fact split and accumulate 3 points, which will leave us scheduled to pick 3rd. So we can do better than 4th. I honestly CAN see it happening.

If it’s not Hall or Seguin, I am most definitely on the Erik Gudbranson bandwagon. Check him out on youtube, definitely a guy you want on your team for so many reasons.

  294. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I don’t think KO has the nasty streak in him to fight or attack players that give cheap shots. It’s just not in his make-up. I do believe though that he needs to do a better job of sticking up for his mates especially if he’s going to be the next captain.

And I’ll be happy if just get a top 5 pick.

  295. avatar Spartiarti RVC says:

that was easy games in world to bet. No way the Pens were going to lose. I love the effort again from the young guys.

Strange though that isles were so creative at beginning of game with Redirect plays then went back to boring set up Streit PP set up that every opposing team is well aware of.

We need some serious help on D.
Grevais is total jinx. We won every game with him out of the line up. Just Bench him along with Tambo. Tambo just doesnt get it in NHL.
Biron was off and we spotted them 4 goals. Roloson got lit too but that was our Defense that let him high and dry.

  296. avatar RD says:

Isle’s should jump to SNY. Both teams will be good in a couple years.

  297. avatar Hey Nooowww!!!! says:

    Wow!!!

Mauldin was the fastest player on the ice when he was out there. He’s even faster than Tamby, I think.

CB, is the kid gonna make it in the NHL?

JT looking like a different player and his slump was a blessing in disguise for him…Even when he was scoring all those goals he wasn’t this noticable so his great play is a direct result of the hard work he put in during the slump. He learned valuable lessons during that time of which he won’t forget. He learned that its not gonna be easy and he needs to do all the little things and the goals will eventually come. I think JT is gonna be just fine!

  298. avatar GE of GN says:

I’d love to have Gudbranson, but Cam Fowler running the PP could be a nice thing too.

  299. avatar Rob (in Pgh) says:

    GE of GN:
Agreed. I think I prefer Gudbranson… but would not be even slightly disappointed to see Cam Fowler in an Islander uniform.

  300. avatar Hoguefanclub says:

It seems likely we will finish outside the top 5 which will give us a chance at Connelly. That’s the guy especially if we pick 6,7,or,8. Guys gonna be a superstar.
