I’d take him, sounds like a good play making sniper center man for jonny t

  2. avatar Blizzard says:

….lets hope he is more Datsyuk then Zherdev. Russians arent my favorite players…..but something about this kid tels me he will be a very fine player. IMO we need offense more than defense. However lets not get quite Snow. BPA at number five. Although this kid might actually be it….cant wait to see what happens!

  3. avatar Bob says:

I certainly wouldn’t take him at #5, but if Garth can trade up and get him in the second part of the 1st round, I’d be all for it.

  4. avatar goislesgo105 says:

I would go for offense over defense but it seems like we should get a quality player either way. I would be very dissappointed if we end up with Gromley though. But I would be happy with Connelly, Burmistrov,EG or Cam Fowler. What do I know though. I’m just a fan. Party on, Garth!!!

  5. avatar corey says:

If we can’t get gudbranson at 5 then my second choice would burmistrov. It seems like he would play well with Tavares

  6. avatar mark p says:

this may be the year that trading down makes sense…..down to 8 or 9 for a #2 then package picks to move up into the 20′s for a second pick in round 1.
If Isles first choice is gone at 5….then picking up this kid a few picks back might be good.

  7. avatar Strummer's Army says:

It’s Grudbranson and then a tie between Connolly and Burmistrov. Connolly didn’t handle his visit issues properly adn Burmistrov has the Russian factor as detractors but he’s probably handling it better then Connolly did. Grudbranson is the total package and zero worries. If it isn’t one of these three at 5 just trade down.

  8. avatar Devon says:

Fowler, Gudbranson, Connolly/Burmistrov. Anyone else, and I’m unhappy.

  9. avatar cjm says:

I agree #6. If Gudbranson is off the board at 5 we can still grab Burmistrov, Connolly, Gormley or Nino at 8.

  10. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I’d love to come away from this draft with a skilled forward.

  11. avatar 2Bit says:

I’d take Nino over Burmistrov, but my first choice, like most of you, is Gudbranson.

  12. avatar Mike L says:

Awesome piece of news CB. It’s nice to know the kid is more devoted to playing in the NHL than many of his fellow Russians. I think the kid is good, but I dont see him as a top 5. If the scouting staff feels he is better than taking a risk on Connolly and Fowler and Gudbranson is off the board, then I wouldn’t mind Snow trading down to select him. I just hope the coliseum crowd doesnt get frustrated like when Bailey was selected.

  13. avatar Patience says:

I think these Russians are being told what to say by their agents. If the money’s right he’ll play in the K.H.L

  14. avatar Micheal says:

Im not a fan of Russian Hockey players. Connolly or Gudbranson please.

  15. avatar Nick Pezzotti says:

These lines would look nice .

    Moulson Tavares okposo

    petrov burmistrov frolov

    Bailey Nielsen versteeg

gillies schremp Martin . If we can pull off the versteeg trade and sign frolov the offense seems like it can be pretty well balanced.

  16. avatar Spartiarti RVC says:

CB do you think BURMISTROV is talented enough to step right into NHL?

Also, based on what i read, seems Connelly, Seguin and Hall are only guys that can step in and play in NHL out of the gates.

As much as we love Gudbranson, look what luke schenn has done so far in NHL. nothing. Same type of player.

  17. avatar Staten Islander says:

I get nervous when they start talking Russian. Gudbranson please…..or Nino

  18. avatar Frankie D says:

Right #13. Be a top 1st rounder in the NHL, and skip to KHL for 2 or 3 times more money offered after 3 year entry is up.

  19. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

If he hates the K.H.L. why does he want to play there when he is older? I agree with everyone, I like him, but not at 5.

  20. avatar Sidd Finch says:

Burmistov already made it clear he is playing in NA for $80/wk. He could already be playing for millions in the KHL but the QOL is awful. Would YOU be willing to live in Siberia (potentially) if you were making millions of dollars? It’s a cold miserable place and to add to the drama you would be the center of attention for both fans and the mob? I believe his sincerity considering he is saying he does not want to live in his own country despite the upside. I think this draft is so deep, that once you get past 1-2, the draft is showing interchangable depth through 15 if not higher. Considering the Ducks have 12 and 29, offer them a chance to move up with the late 2nd rounder we have, for these picks. When you review mock drafts at NHL.com and tsn.ca among others, you see some huge swings with some guys being top 10 on one board and late first round on others. Although it is still a little too early to tell, Snow and his staff have had a good eye for targeting talent and deciding to go after them at optimal points in the draft, cashing in on extra picks along the way.

This kid might be the steal of the draft. Some of the character traits that he exibited make me think that he is going to be a steal at 6-10. If the Islanders trade back it is for him, not El Nino.
