Still put off by Connolly not taking the time to visit. Hip issue only adds to the uncertainty. Would prefer Gormley or Nino at this time (assuming Gudbranson and Fowler are gone).

  2. avatar jack says:

Did Connolly visit any of the other teams?

  3. avatar Nick Pezzotti says:

I really don’t know what to think about him
I feel like he can turn out to be someone like heatley if he’s not injured but that injury is something that can be serious . I’m so enticed about him but worried at the same
    time
    of long term issues

  4. avatar vrinqueens says:

Really don’t think he’ll be there at #5 but if he is….Man would he look good on JT’s line.

  5. avatar Nobody says:

What if a team doesn’t want a ‘report’ or a phone call from HIS doctor, but wants THEIR dr to do an exam tests? And 20 teams? Please, u make yourself available for 3-7 if your healthy and want to be transparent. Talk is cheap!!

  6. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Before Connolly pulled the “I’m not coming for a visit and an exam” stunt on the Isles I would have been happy to have gotten Grudbranson or Connolly. The big, mean, hitting, skilled d-man or the big ultra-talented LW. Isles two biggest needs. However, he was vocal in stating he had nothing to hide and that he’d be visiting the Isles. He was vocal that he was willing to do any test or exam any team wanted and then that all changed. It was a bad move and it raises concerns rather then elmininates them. His agent did a poor job in handling this matter and he is making it look like he has something to hide. Hopefulle there is nothing and the kid isn’t hurt by this but I just want Grudbranson now.

GARTH MAKE SURE YOU DRAFT DYLAN MCILRATH!!

  7. avatar Jerky says:

Receiving the hip specialists’ latest evaluation report on Connolly is one thing but making himself available to team doctors to evaluate for themselves is another. I would pass on Connolly at #5 if he’s still there. If he becomes an all-star with another team then so be it. We should end up with an outstanding player for many years regardless.

  8. avatar Manhattan Mike says:

Isles will not take Connolly. Especially with the fate of DP still being uncertain. That would be 2 major players with serious injury problems. And this hip may be healthy now – but in the NHL where everything is faster and tougher – this can EASILY be re-injured. Why risk it? The Isles will pass on Connolly and take Gormley if Gudbranson is gone. Or at least i hope so.

Oh and if it IS a forward that Garth wants – Id be more comfortable with Nino from Portland.

  9. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

I agree that Connolly and his agent should of never made a promise to visit with every team interested … quite frankly … there is a big difference between visiting 2 or 3 teams that may target you in the draft then 8. There is NO way you can jet a kid across the continent to 8 different teams to spend a day or two in two weeks time while a kid should be finishing HS, and studying for exams. YES … he’s going to be a Pro hockey player, and by default doesn’t need that HS diploma … but you tell that to a kid and his parents.

I think what Brett’s agent should of did was hold a one day conference in Vancouver for ALL teams and their doctors to meet with Brett, his agent and his doctors to answer all questions regarding his hip. Teams have to get this pick right… and Brett’s agent should know that. It’s not the kid’s fault. The team visits are all on the agent… and he handled this bit of PR wrong. Even though he’s correct that it’s impossible to meet with everyone interested. At the minimum he should of met with both Florida teams, both NY teams and Columbus.

  10. avatar Spartiarti RVC says:

my feeling is connelly is in good health and he going to florida.

So it bascially like Hall and Seguin not wasting time visiting other teams.

  11. avatar Steve says:

I think it’s better for the Isles to take a pass on Brett Connolly.

  12. avatar Shremp Co 13 says:

I agree passing on Connolly looks pretty likely. Than again so is taking Gormley who i’m not too thrilled with. Hope for Gudbranson or if he’s gone I can def see garth moving back and picking up another pick or two which would give us the most choices in the draft.

  13. avatar Irish Isle says:

So when he was in Phillie on a Friday night, he couldn’t make the trip up north to NY, for a team in the Top 5? There is only one team out west in the Top 10, and they clearly are not selecting him. He should have made his travel plans based on the three teams out east in the Top 5.

  14. avatar Easyisle says:

This is on the agent, not the kid. I don’t know more than what I’ve read, but he’s got exams going right now – how do we know he and his parents don’t take an education very seriously and were counting on the Agent to take care of the medical information? If the teams all get a full report in a couple of days then the agent is a clown for even allowing it to get this far.

And I’m not so sure having the Isles hip specialist see him was ever a really good idea…

  15. avatar JSExpress says:

I think Connolly is going to Florida at 3. That’s why the Panthers are not bringing in Gudbranson or Fowler, and also why Connolly’s agent hasn’t been wasting his time, flying his client all over the continent to see teams that will never have the chance to draft him. At the same time, he can’t tip Florida’s hand by saying as much. I think we will have our choice of Gudbranson or Fowler at 5, but on that same token, if Connolly is still on the board and the other two are gone, you have to take him.

  16. avatar Mook says:

Gudbranson at 5!! Do it Garth!!!

  17. avatar IslesRock says:

Connolly is a risk because of his hip and his lack of playing time. If Fowler or Gudbranson are gone at 5th pick, I hope Garth can move down a few slots. I wonder if he would move up to #3 and then take the D man of his choice.

  18. avatar Michael Pastore says:

The Islanders need to pass on Connoly. They can not afford to make the mistake. As far as I am concerned Gormley is not worth a top 5 pick. He is a good all around Dman but does not have that one special ability that puts him in that class. They should trade down and pick up extra picks. Like they did in 2008. it is all up to the Panthers. If they take him at 3 then the Islanders get Fowler or Gudbranson. If not trade down.

  19. avatar jon from nj says:

    I want Gudbranson!

  20. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

I think before we all go gaga over some of these players we should look at islesinfo.com at Bruno Gervais profile. He had a very very impressive Junior and AHL career. Now some people want him gone.

Fair enough Bruno was ranked 78th … but he made it.

I’m fairly certain as I mentioned on Fanhouse that Connolly is going to Florida anyway. Why else would Gudbranson and Fowler not be invited to visit. For God’s sake Fowler was being mentioned in the same breath last year as Hall … before Seguin bumped him out this year. I just can’t wait till next Friday when all questions are answered. Just no Gormley at 5 please.

  21. avatar gary says:

sounds like a major f-up on the part of the agent

  22. avatar hathead68 says:

Connolly at 5 if he is there. We still need more offense. As mentioned by others, Connolly and JT would look sweet together. Bailey and KO play well together also. That’s a nice 1-2 punch. Gudbranson absolutely if Connolly goes at 3 and Fowler at 4. Don’t have any interest in Gormley at all. If we grab Connolly at 5, maybe Garth can move a small mountain and grab McIlrath. We’d be the biggest winners on draft day!

  23. avatar Chris in DC says:

The more I think about and been reading up on the players, the more I feel they may trade down again, get more picks, and take Nino and McIlrath in the 1st round…

  24. avatar jmo16 says:

Hey CB, do you know all of the players set to meet with/already visited the isles? Would help to know who THEY’RE interested in, no?
